Hats off to Quentin Carter for "Hoodwinked." I was hooked until the very end.

Keith and Tukey are high school sweethearts, and they have a daughter together (Mi'kelle). Tukey is a Jamaican beauty who has unconditional love for Keith, and she works with her uncle, Ben, to transport drugs for her man Keith. Tukey takes the fall when Keith's hustle gets busted, and serves two years in prison. While Tukey is in prison, Keith shows his true side and just how devoted he is to Tukey and her efforts to protect him.

When Tukey emerges from the pen, she devises a plan to let Keith know just how much she appreciates his devotion. Tukey's plan involves all of the key players in Keith's huslin' game.

Hurry and read "Hoodwinked," so you can get the 411 on Tukey et al.

Book Description

For a century, "progressive" writers and filmmakers-multiculturalists like Ward Churchill and Alex Haley, sexual revolutionaries like Kinsey and Margaret Mead, quasi-Marxists like Noam Chomsky and Michael Moore, and radical naturalists like Paul Ehrlich and Rachel Carson-have been using falsehood and fraud as their principal weapons in their assault on traditional American culture. For years, an unconnected squad of literary detectives, anthropologists, scientists, and historians, has been picking off the frauds and their enablers one by one. Taken together, the work of these critics is devastating. Jack Cashill's Hoodwinked synthesizes their dogged research and reveals the depth and breadth of the corruption at the very foundation of contemporary intellectual culture.

"A lie, told often enough becomes the truth"-----Lenin

Cashill has a Ph.D. in American studies from Purdue, and is a former Fulbright professor in France. This hard hitting, captivating and well written book focusses on how radical naturalism, sexual hedonism, Marxism, and multiculturalism have sabotaged our moral culture; and the hoaxes from Piltdown man to global warming. Eventually there will come someone who catches the lies, enabling us to discern the truth; Cashill fills this book with people who've brought us to this difficult time. He backs up his investigation with substantial end notes.

Chapter One invites us into the world of the "new morality"; created by the likes of Michael Moore, Ward Churchill, and the many other intellectual liberals who follow this road to oblivion. These are the men of fraud and deceit; of a man centered world.

Chapter Two, though a bit drawn out, examines the great lie of communism, socialism, and Marxism. Marxism has disguised itself in the liberals (sorry, "progressives") of America. These radical beliefs are so strong in being right that it overrides the conscious: leading to the shameless discrediting and proving the west wrong; the lawyers new strategy of getting off (foreign) criminals; the hyperboles, false reporting, and deliberate ignorance of the atrocities world-wide, and apologists attitude in journalism; and Hollywood and the great classical writers influence. Cashill also takes a look at histories influences: such as the coming of communism, Marxism, and progressivism's roots. "The progressive mind is a many-turned thing."

Chapter Three deals with multiculturalism, and the "no objective truths" that is postmodernism; and the relativism the teachers and professors are filling are kids heads with, for example: the early cultural falsehoods of the black man, and blaming the Anglo-Saxon for their ills. Who cares about the truth if there is an ideology to defend. God or man, that is the choice.

Chapter Four: the book would not be complete without mentioning Darwinian naturalism, and the spawn: the fraud of Haeckel, Hitler's Nazism, Mendel, Gould, and of late, Dawkins. Ehrlich's population control and environmentalism blessed us with his predecessor Al Gore. We can thank the eradication of DDT for the progressive environmentalism movement (a sore subject with me); many millions of lives have been lost from malaria.

Chapter Five brings us into the social engineering of Margaret Sanger's Planned Parenthood and the fall out: Margaret Mead and Alfred Kinsey. Many of these propagators and hoaxes still blindly live on today.

"When their own dreams fail, as those dreams inevitably do, progressives are more likely to either ignore or romanticize the past than to reevaluate it."

Good accompaniments: Dinesh D'Souza's "What's So Great About America" and Michael Crichton's "State of Fear"

Wish you well
Scott

2 out of 5 stars You Can't Tell A Book By Its Cover.......2007-02-17

Upon reading HOODWINKED an observation by the anthropologist Franz Boas came to mind:

"We could read our newspapers [and books] with much greater satisfaction if our language, like the Indian Kwakiutl idiom, compelled us to say whether a report is based on self-experience, or inference, or on hearsay, or whether the reporter has dreamed it."

HOODWINKED, published by Nelson Current, the political imprint of Thomas Norton, Inc., a publisher of Christian books, is authored by a PhD in American Studies from Purdue, winner of both a Fulbright professorship and film documentary awards. Certainly Dr. Cashill has appropriate "self-experience" to argue his thesis that:

"Control of the cultural establishment is just one reason why fraud plagues the political left. The less obvious but more fundamental reason is that progressive authors and their cultural support groups live in a world where God, if not fully dead, is irrelevant. By default, progressives tend to ground their morality in the shaky materialist philosophy introduced by the Greek philosopher Epicurus and popularized by Darwin and Marx."

Looking for compelling evidence of the left-wing conspiracy Cashill warns us of, I read on to his coverage of the Sacco-Vanzetti affair (which I concentrate on in this review). He introduces it with the section heading: A COUPLE OF WOPS IN A JAM. Although, as Cashill notes, there are dozens of books, including six volumes of published trial transcripts (Henry Holt, 1927) and extraordinarily detailed internet site accounts (e.g. Court TV's CRIME LIBRARY), Cashill relies largely on Robert H. Montgomery's SACCO-VANZETTI: THE MURDER AND THE MYTH (Western Islands, 1965) while marginalizing, tainting or dismissing those whose analysis differs from his such as then Harvard law professor and later Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter's THE CASE OF SACCO AND VANZETTI - A CRITICAL ANALYSIS FOR LAWYERS AND LAYMEN (Little Brown, 1927), the views of later Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., and the proclamation by Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis in 1977, the 50th anniversary of the executions of Sacco and Vanzetti "that any stigma and disgrace should be forever removed from the names of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti."

Instead, Dr. Cashill points us to the evidence against them: the "guns, bullets, and shotgun shells that would match those used in the two crimes" and gives short shrift to the concept of "reasonable doubt" and the ample alternative case put forward, for example, by Frankfurter. [Credible forensic evidence is still being debated for and against Sacco as the murderer (cf. J.E. Starrs, JOURNAL OF FORENSIC EVIDENCE, 1986, 31, 630-54; Henry Lee, FAMOUS CRIMES REVISITED, Strong Books, 2001). Cashill decries the "Manichean divide" he claims liberals set up, managing in the same breath, to complain about the "standard Democratic stump speech" of John Edwards in the 2004 U.S. presidential race, and that "progressives worldwide have historically shown little faith in the wisdom of their fellow citizens."

Dr. Cashill has not relied on "hearsay" for his rendering of events, but rather, has imposed his own Manichean divide on them. His account leaves out or glosses over what made the Sacco-Vanzetti affair a cause celebre world wide and not simply among those wishing to promote, or being duped by, a Marxist agenda and propaganda campaign, as he claims was the case. The trial of these two Italian anarchists was defined by judicial, prosecutorial, defense and juror errors, submerged in an atmosphere of very scary times in which an anarchist under FBI custody crashed out the 14th floor to the street below, a murderous bomb exploded on Wall Street and another in front of the home of an attorney general. Hence, contrary to Cashill's certainties, and to the detriment of his overarching thesis that we are hoodwinked, it is most unlikely that the many questions about the guilt or innocence of Sacco and Vanzetti will ever be answered. That is, unless one dreams it.

Looking for a well written, concise, documented expose of leftist-liberal political/social/historical/academic prevarications over the last century. Look no further. This is the book. It deserves a Pulitzer Prize. It drives a stake through the rotten and dishonest heart of so called "progressive" ideology of the so called "intellectual elites".

3 out of 5 stars IF you buy this book you are indeed hoodwinked.......2006-10-05

This guy is so intent on disproving leftist theories, that he actually misstates the facts. It was never proven, that Bartomelo Vanzetti had Allasendro Beredialli's (the guards) gun. It was however widely known that Berdeilli's widow cried: "If only he had brought his gun that day!"
THe fact is that Cashill did not do his homework and makes unfair and inaccurate statments.

In 1998, in the hopes of staying alive, I went on a reading binge to try to understand the political economy and the devastation it was wrecking on the real economy -- including my company and me. I read about 1,000 books in a three year period, consuming many
more articles and lots of cassettes and videos. By 2000, I figured out that distilling things down to the "best of" was what a lot of my friends and family needed. Finally, I realized that most of what I had learned could be accessed quickly by simply watching movies. The truth was lying in wait down at the local video store for anyone who wanted it.

As things turned out, my favorite movie reviewer turned out to be Uri Dowbenko, a writer, artist and publicist par excellence who lives in Montana with his beautiful family in a home right out of a scene from "A River Runs Through It" -- which was indeed filmed nearby. Uri had a successful career in LA, saw the writing on the wall and moved outside the political economy.

After sweeping up his stories on corruption and crime in high places, "Bushwhacked: Inside Stories of True Conspiracy," Uri has published a collection of his movie reviews published over the years on the Internet. It's called "Hoodwinked: Watching Movies with Eyes Wide Open."

Uri's biting movie reviews always illuminate "the real deal" on a movie and how a particular movie tells you the truth that you will never hear on network news. Warning -- these are not for the faint of heart or folks who think we can fix things in the next election.

Uri's reviews cover numerous movies that Solari recommends to investment strategy and risk management clients who are far too busy hanging out with their lovely families or running useful businesses to read 1,000 books -- including, Enemy of the State, Anti-Trust, Eyes Wide Shut, Swordfish, Conspiracy Theory, Bulworth and Wag the Dog.

For those who want a highly opinionated, highly entertaining "real deal" movie guide, you can buy copies of "Hoodwinked" at all the usual places or call Uri at Liberty Press toll free at 1-866-317.1390.

Back cover reads:
WHO WAS JAKE EDWARDS?
Secretary Maureen Harris had to find out if this dynamic new plane mechanic was involved in sabotaging her company's jet designs. She'd need to get close to him...very close. But Maureen had always been too shy to get near any man, and Jake made her heart soar--much too high and fast.
Before he met her, Jake had no time for women. They all seemed willing to use him. But this one was different...innocent, gentle, warm. His arms ached to hold her. And soon, if he could just keep his secret a little longer, he'd be ready to show her exactly what kind of man Jake Edwards was...

This books adheres to the Diana Palmer no loose formula. Good character development and strong emotional content make this one of her better stories. Be aware that this is the same book published in April of 1989 in the Desire line by Silhouette. Diana Palmer fans will recognize it. New fans may not be able to find it so this is a good opportunity for them.

Book Description

Read the actual intelligence reports (not the spin)—and make up your own mind.

In America, the wife of the former ambassador who exposed George Bush's sixteen-word State-of-the-Union fib about uranium from Niger, is now being harassed by allies of the Administration. In Britain, the scientist who blew the whistle on Tony Blair has been driven to suicide.

For all of us who, thanks to these whistle-blowers, now realize that we have been hoodwinked and want to understand exactly how, national security analyst John Prados has compiled and annotated the key source documents behind the selling of the Iraq war to the American public. As these CIA reports, Pentagon briefings, and other materials clearly show, Bush and his spokespeople were playing a crude game of three-card monte, claiming Iraqi ties to Al Qaeda, weapons of mass destruction, and imminent threats, which are here exposed as half-truths, exaggerations, and outright fabrications of a war-mongering administration.

Prados, a noted historian of intelligence and national security, offers readers a first-hand view of incontrovertible evidence that we were had.

5 out of 5 stars Bush Administration's distortion & manipulation of intel.......2004-08-08

John Prados calls HOODWINKED "a case study in government dishonesty" (p. xii). Based on his meticulous research, he concludes that "deception was systematic and carried out purposefully" (p. xii). The topic, of course, is the propaganda campaign that culminated in the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq. Prados is now a Research Fellow with the National Security Archive, based at George Washington University. He has been researching U.S. national security issues since the early 1980s. One of his more well-known books is "The Presidents' Secret Wars: CIA and Pentagon Covert Operations from WWII Through the Persian Gulf." The Archive was created in 1985, and is the single largest user in the U.S. of the FOIA, Freedom of Information Act. The NSA makes available declassified documentation of U.S. foreign policy and national security policy (www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/).

You might think that a book on the topic of the intelligence used to go to war with Iraq would be outdated now that the Senate Intelligence Committee report has been issued (www.intelligence.senate.gov/iraqreport2.pdf). But if you recall, the Republicans prevented the Committee from releasing any findings about Executive Branch manipulation of the intelligence. The report, therefore, indicted the CIA for its faulty intelligence about Iraq's "weapons of mass destruction," but did not make any charges about the Bush Administration. That is where HOODWINKED is still VERY relevant. Because what the book consists of is a careful, line by line analysis of the key pieces of intelligence available to the Administration and a comparison of those documents to the public statements of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice and Powell. Prados reaches the following conclusion:

"What the intelligence record shows, however, is that contrary to the reports it put out, what the Bush Administration knew indicated that Iraqi weapons programs were either nascent, moribund, or non-existent -- exactly the opposite of the President's repeated message to Americans. This book is an attempt to compile and share with the American public for the first time the actual intelligence available to the Bush Administration as it made its case for war. It then aims to show how this information was consistently distorted, manipulated, and ignored, as the president, vice president, secretaries of defense and state, and others, sought to persuade the country that facts about Iraq were other than what the intelligence indicated" (p. xi).

In other words, they were lying through their teeth! There was no imminent threat -- the war was an offensive war, a preventive war against a threat that did not exist.

HOODWINKED includes the entire text of several crucial declassified documents, including the October 2002 CIA White Paper, the October 2002 letter from DCI George Tenet to Senate Intelligence Committe Chair Bob Graham, the December 2002 State Department/CIA Fact Sheet, the May 2003 CIA/DIA paper on biological warware production plants, and the June 2003 Pentagon press briefing. Prados meticulously compares the information presented in these documents to Administration statements and documents the manipulations and distortions -- the lies. He focuses on four issues -- 1) the Iraqi nuclear program, 2) unmanned aerial vehicles, 3) uranium from Niger, and 4) Saddam Hussein's supposed links to Al Qaeda and 9/11.

I see it as interesting and suspicious that the Senate's report on Iraq intelligence has been buried by the press as it turned to the more recent release of the 9/11 Commission report. If the public knew how systematically Cheney & Rumsfeld twisted the intelligence in order to get the outcome they wanted, Bush wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of reelection.

I would like to make a point about our government's propaganda that everyone seems to ignore. The very term and concept of WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION lumps together two very different things -- nuclear weapons on the one hand, and chemical & biological weapons on the other. If the public was clear that there was no way Iraq could have hidden a nuclear weapons program with the inspections regime in place, which is what all informed analysts knew, then the perceived threat would have been very different. The "mass destruction capability" of chemical & biological weapons is simply nowhere near as great as that of nuclear weapons. So even if there were stockpiles of chemical weapons, as most analysts suspected, this was not something to be terribly afraid of. How would Iraq deliver large amounts of chemical weapons, or even a primitive atomic bomb, to the U.S.? When you actually think about it, the prospect is ludicrous, but most people were easily scared by the idea of WMD as an umbrella category, not knowing exactly what was in it or how dangerous it was. Never mind that the U.S. government has plenty of WMD, including big anti-personnel bombs that are not ordinarily considered to be WMD at all.

There is a ton of junk information in the world these days, thanks to the internet. HOODWINKED is the prime stuff -- it is the crucial information that U.S. citizens need in order to make the right decision this November. That is if Bush avoids impeachment when people discover the truth.

    Book Description

Reveals top secret tricks and tactics.

Hoodwinked plunges readers into the secret strategies and underground battles that helped turn the tides of World War II. There's the American army of inflatable tanks and dummy planes: amassed across the Channel from occupied France, this phantom army helped to distract Germans from the true invasion at Normandy. Equally sneaky was the special forces unit known as the Beach Jumpers. Led by movie-star turned military captain Douglas Fairbanks Jr., the team specialized in mimicking an invasion fleet...with only 10 small boats.

Presented with historical accuracy and engaging storytelling, and bursting with sidebars, archival photographs, color maps and illustrations, Hoodwinked tells 18 true, gripping stories of elaborate ruses, military fakery and cunning deception on both sides of World War II.

2004 marks the 60th anniversary of D-Day. Hoodwinked includes three tales of Allied deception and resistance that helped secure the success of the Normandy invasion.

Here what it says at the back:

Because twenty-five years ago, someone saw to it that the new baby Fortune remain a secret. And now someone maybe the heiress, maybe one of their own was blackmailing, wealthy Fortunes big-time.

Yet when the family hired private investigator Flynt Corrigan to insinuate himself into Angelica's life, handsome, jaded man mysteriously married the heiress. And now everyone--including the love-struck new bride--had a private stake in keeping the mystery under wraps....

This book didn't dissapoint me. I read the other Fortune book and it was ALL GOOD. I recommend this book to those who love reading love stories and suspence in it!

Despite the theme of witches and creepy critters, this is a very uncreepy, sweet, and unthreatening picture book suitable for children just getting into things spooky. Mitzi is a right little witch. She lives in a sort of permanent Halloween, surrounded by cobwebs and dubious-looking aunts in pointy hats. She wants a pet--a really, really creepy pet, please--but, despite repeated broomstick-flights to Cackle & Co. pet store, she just can't get one that satisfies. Finally a kitten named Hoodwink shows up at the door, is almost turned away on account of being horribly cuddly and nice... and turns out to be just perfect. Arthur Howard has won awards for his previous books Cosmo Zooms and When I Was Five; it's easy to see why. (Ages 3 to 7) --Richard Farr

    Book Description

Mitzi is a witch who likes creepy things. So when she decides to get a pet, she wants the creepiest pet possible. But the bats she tries are too batty, the toad does nothing but eat bugs, and the warthogs . . . well, that’s a whole other story.
Mitzi is in despair. She wants a creepy pet that is fun--and that will share her secrets. It seems too much to hope for, until one rainy night when something unexpected scratches on her door. . . .
With gentle humor and a touch of magic, Arthur Howard reveals how true friendship sometimes turns up in the most surprising places.

5 out of 5 stars Very cute story.......2006-11-04

I bought this book a few years ago for my daughter for Halloween. She immediately loved it and I had to buy another copy for her to donate to her school as her birthday book (every child donates a book on their birthday and their picture and year is placed in the inside cover - wonderful tradition). This is a very cute story with beautiful artwork about a little witch who wants a pet. Because she is a witch, she wants the creepiest pet possible. She brings home different pets from the pet store, but returns them as they aren't exactly what she wants. Finally, a cute kitten shows up on her doorstep, and despite her adorable looks, the kitten is exactly what she was looking for in a pet (explores the attic with her, watches creepy movies with her and listens to her secrets). The moral of the story - appearances don't matter as much as your character.

    4 out of 5 stars cute.......2005-10-02

Mitzi is a witch who is on a quest for the perfect pet. She goes to a special pet shop that sells creepy pets. After all she is a witch, a normal pet just won't do! She finds a great shop filled with creepy pets like worms, bats, and toads. She tries a few out but they just don't seem to be good friends for hr. One night Mitzi hears something scratching at the door. She opens it to find a cute kitten. At first she thinks that she can't have such a "cute" pet. But the kitten turns out to be a great friend for her and she keep the cat for her pet!

      Book Description

The Big Con is a brilliantly revealing look at how the radical ideas of a small group of economic hucksters have taken over the American political system and perverted our nations policies. Through vivid portraits of self-interested politicians and pseudoeconomists, with wry analysis of their bogus theories, Jonathan Chait gives us the tools to understand whats really behind economic policy debates in Washington: a riveting drama of greed and deceit.
