I guess I should have read the review of this 'new release' of an older (2) novel(s).

I love Nora Roberts, but she's so much better than this now! I've grown with her over the years and was a little disappointed that I fell for the new cover, thinking a new book. A waste of money for any Nora Roberts fan.

Book Description

Written by two of the country's top genealogists, this authoritative book is the first to explain how new and groundbreaking genetic testing can help you research your ancestryAccording to American Demographics, 113 million Americans have begun to trace their roots, making genealogy the second most popular hobby in the country (after gardening). Enthusiasts clamor for new information from dozens of subscription-based websites, email newsletters, and magazines devoted to the subject. For these eager roots-seekers looking to take their searches to the next level, DNA testing is the answer. After a brief introduction to genealogy and genetics fundamentals, the authors explain the types of available testing, what kind of information the tests can provide, how to interpret the results, and how the tests work (it doesn't involve digging up your dead relatives). It's in expensive, easy to do, and the results are accurate: It's as simple as swabbing the inside of your cheek and popping a sample in the mail.Family lore has it that a branch of our family emigrated to Argentina and now I've found some people there with our name. Can testing tell us whether we're from the same family? My mother was adopted and doesn't know her ethnicity. Are there any tests available to help her learn about her heritage? I just discovered someone else with my highly unusual surname. How can we find out if we have a common ancestor? These are just a few of the types of genealogical scenarios readers can pursue. The authors reveal exactly what is possible-and what is not possible-with genetic testing. They include case studies of both famous historial mysteries and examples of ordinary folks whose exploration of genetic genealogy has enabled them to trace their roots.

5 out of 5 stars This is a "Must Have" addition to your DNA library..........2007-09-03

As a DNA-surname research group administrator, I tend to buy every book, VHS, or DVD I can find regarding the use of DNA research in support of traditional genealogy.

Of the 12-15 books I have purchased so far, Megan Smolenyak's touchstone reference work continues to be the one I reach for when I have a question myself.

Easily read and understood, this book makes complex concepts readily accessible with clear illustrations, definitions, real-world examples, and authoritative references when needed. I am not naturally science-minded, but as a good researcher, I want to be able to use every tool in the box. This is my go-to book for that purpose.

Buy as many DNA books and tapes as you want, but your DNA library will not be complete without this classic introduction to the concepts involved in genetic genealogy.

I highly recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent contribution in a new subject of growing importance.......2007-06-08

Even a decade ago, "genetic genealogy" barely existed as an almost science-fictional idea. Now, it's one of the most debated topics in our field and thousands of family researchers are involved in projects to identify ancestors through DNA analysis. (I'm in two projects now, myself.) It's a rather complicated subject, though, and for those (like me) who barely scraped through high school biology, the more books for beginners, the better. Smolenyak is a well-known genealogist and lead researcher for the PBS Ancestors series and Turner has become one of the principal popularizers of genetic genealogy on the Internet. The important point is that both have been pursuing family research since the days of manual typewriters and paper library catalogs, and that's the perspective from which they approach the discussion. They explain very clearly why DNA analysis can tell you only who your ancestors *aren't*, not necessarily who they *are*, and the strategic differences between researching your father's and your mother's lineage. They lay out the options and limitations among uncovering ethnic origins (what about that Indian great-grandmother?), global origins (Eastern European? or Scandinavian?), "deep maternal" ancestry (the "daughters of Eve" thing), and even African tribal origins. How do you set up a family or surname research project, attract participants, ensure their trust, and analyze and publish the results? And what do all those numbers in the lab report mean? This is very much a practical book and I strongly recommend it, perhaps in conjunction with Thomas H. Shawker's _Unlocking Your Genetic Heritage_ (2004).

5 out of 5 stars Trace Your Roots with DNA.......2007-01-19

to augment their genealogy study.

There is no other like this one ! A magnificent world class illustration of Irish Family History, this book is the culmination of 4 decades of research by the I.G.F.. Hundreds of families from each county are given in Part One with family history. Over 45,000 family names are given in specific counties or Poor Law Unions.
This is the new third edition (2003), which includes select family histories. For the first time ever, the index for the first 28 volumes in the Irish Families set is also included. The famous and large families like Murphy, Kelly, Sullivan, O'Brien, Ryan, Kennedy, Walsh, Daugherty and Donahue are of course in this book, as are thousands more, including rarely found families that settled in Ireland from England, Scotland, Wales, and the continent. Among the hundreds of settler names are those of Betagh; Coppinger; Trench; Coplan; Hall; Green; Hunter; McKenzie; Baker; Howell; Bellew and many more.

Families from England
Many English families have settled in Ireland from the 12th century onwards. Often, the native Irish were forced to "translate" their names into English sounding ones. The 50 most numerous names from England in 1853 are given, along with hundreds of family history extracts on specific families like Smith; Jones; Williams and Taylor.

Families from Scotland
Due to the proximity of the north of Ireland and the south of Scotland, migration between the two countries has been constant. A great settlement of Scottish families took place in the 17th century during the plantation of Ulster by the British Crown. Later, some of these 'planter' families came to America, becoming known as the Scotch Irish or Scots Irish. The 50 most numerous names of Scotland are given, along with hundreds of family histories, including families like McDonald; Brown; Thomson and Robertson.

Families from the German Palatinate

Families came to Ireland in the 18th century from the Palatinate of the Rhine. In 1709 some 7,000 arrived in England and many settled in Co. Limerick, Ireland and America. Some of these are families like Bowen, Baker; Delmege and Pyper.

Danish or Viking Families

The Danes (Lochlainders, Ostmen or Vikings), had colonies in Ireland for centuries. Centered in Dublin and Meath (in Fingall), and in Wexford, Waterford, Cork and Limerick, settling primarily in the coastal counties of Ireland from the 8th century on. These Viking families include: Betagh; Coppinger; Palmer; Plunket and Skiddy, among many others given in this work.

Jewish Families in Ireland

Many Russian and Polish Jews settled on the south side of Dublin city from the late 1800's. These included the families of Coplan, Fridberg, Greenberg, Weiner, Maisell and many others given in this work.

Welsh Families in Ireland

Families by the name of "Walsh" (in Irish, Brannagh or Breathnach), meaning a Briton or Welshman, are found early in Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Killarney, Tipperary, Wexford, Waterford and Galway. Some of these families were: Howell, Lawless, Lillis, Lynagh and Rossiter. Many are included in this work

Anglo Norman Families in Ireland

The Anglo Norman invasions of the 12th century brought many new families to Ireland. Some took on Irish names. Anglo Norman families in Ireland include: Barry; Bellew; Bermingham; Burke; Carew and Clare, among hundreds of others given in this book along with family history notes.

Huguenot Families in Ireland

French and Fleming Huguenot families settled in the 17th century in Dublin, Kilkenny, Waterford, Cork, and Lisburn, etc... They were noted for making linen, cloth and lace. Some of these families were those of Barre; Perrin; Hazard; Hassard; Lefanu; Trench and many others as given in this work.

'Irish Families' Contains many family names left out of other popular works, including those of Edward MacLysaght, Patrick Woulfe and John O'Hart. The best single book for finding any Irish family surname, there are more names, arms, and locations here than in any other book . Truly a 'must have' resource for finding numerous and scarce names in Ireland.Format of this Book

Entries on family names are arranged in the following order:

(1) When available, the coat of arms linked to the name appears above the name which is in bold type. All arms shown in this volume were actually used by families in Ireland, acknowledged by recognized authorities.

(2) Beneath the name is the source from which the arms are taken.

(3) Occasionally we list a Gaelic or more ancient form of the name on the next line in regular type. (note we have not punctuated these). We suggest those interested in the gaelic consult Irish Names and Surnames by the Rev. P. Woulfe. The IGF edition of that work contains a new surname index, which proves most helpful to researchers.

(4) The next line, in italics, gives variant spellings of the name as available.

(5) The history associated with the name

The amount of information found will vary with each name. Please consult all possible spellings of the name. More information may appear in other volumes to this Irish Families set. Names not covered here will appear in other volumes of our Irish Families, great & small series. The surname index to this first volume , (and to volumes 2 through 28), is found in part III of this book. The researcher should consult that index as well as the location index found in part II of this book.

The location index (see part II) represents extracts taken from larger, more detailed listings found in the Master Book of Irish Surnames. Space limitations do not allow reprinting all the index listings found in that book. In fact, there are over 50,000 listings from that book which we did not have room for at all! We have included as many surnames as possible to give hope to Irish family researchers. These listings may prove particularly helpful for those with less common names. The student of Irish family names would do well to consult that work independently.

Totally a huge waste of money.

4 out of 5 stars Be sure you get the third edition.......2005-04-29

The third edition of this work is definitely the best. It contains the index to the entire 28 volumes in the series, which covers every county in Ireland. The second edition was published earlier, and does not contain the complete index to the series. The third edition has all the family history information from the second edition, PLUS the complete series info. This book contains the largest collection of Irish Family Names, locations and arms ever put to print.

In Hide Your Assets and Disappear, a master gumshoe gives some straight information about how to cover your trail and protect your money from the government and creditors. Edmund J. Pankau, a writer and acclaimed private investigator, believes that individual rights, privacy, and benefits are slowly eroding in the United States, but that there are ways--legal and illegal--to beat the authorities. "The choice is yours to make," writes Pankau, "Don't be the one that someday says, 'I wish I could have done that.'"

Pankau despises domestic tax laws. He urges people to hire a good attorney to help plan a move offshore to a sunny clime with low taxes, bank-privacy rules, and simpler, cheaper living. He recommends New Zealand, Belize, Costa Rica, and Honduras, where the island of Roatan is his own personal hideaway. And for those who truly need to disappear, Pankau explains how amazingly easy it is to obtain a second or third passport, become a new person or stage a phony death.

Pankau is also a powerful advocate for asset-protection planning. The book features some nifty moves to block creditors with bankruptcy laws. There are also methods to maximize state and federal tax exemptions and maneuvers to shield a personal residence, real estate, stocks, or pension accounts from taxes and potential creditors or lawsuits.

The book is for hard-core freedom seekers. It's also recommended for people interested in more conventional techniques for protecting money, property, and other valuables. --Dan Ring

Book Description

A New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller!

Are you tired of the way you're living? Are you fed up with everyone trying to take your most valuable possessions--your money and assets--away? Are you sick of having creditors, the IRS, or a vindictive ex-spouse nipping at your heels? If only you could disappear without a trace...if only you could resurface in some exotic foreign place with a whole new identity and a brand-spanking new life.

And on the other side, how would you like to track down that ex (and his assets) who owes you money? Want to know his tricks?

For most people, this is just a fantasy. But it doesn't have to be. In Hide Your Assets and Disappear, one of the nation's top-ten-rated private investigators, Edmund J. Pankau, reveals all the tricks of his trade to show you how to hide it all or find someone who has. An experienced tracker who has worked for the government to recover missing assets, Pankau explains step-by-step how to successfully get away or find someone who has.

Filled with vivid real-life stories of both successes and failures as well as an Internet research guide, this invaluable guide outlines exactly what you should know before you go, including the ever-increasing difficulties you will face as the world becomes more tightly linked through electronic networks. Pankau shows you how to pay attention to prevent slip-ups that can give you away, from birthday phone calls to magazine subscriptions to an off-the-cuff comment to a stranger. He prepares you logistically and psychologically to successfully make the transition to your new life and new self in a new world, and gives you the best information on how to go, where to go, how to live, how to behave, and even who to become once you get there.

Should I keep my assets here or move them abroad? How do I create a new identity? How do I stay lost? Can I ever go back? How can I avoid anyone who might be looking for me? And how can I find someone who's disappeared on me? How do people fake their own deaths? What can the government do to catch a concealer? Pankau has the answer for all these questions and many more, and provides the tiny, often overlooked details that can make the difference between lounging on a tropical beach or ending up on the wrong side of the law.

Whether you're in search of a new life or someone who has hidden their assets and disappeared and left you in the lurch, listen to Edmund J. Pankau. With his unique, entertaining, eye-opening guide, he shows you how to go from victim to victor.

Thinking of disappearing without a trace? Want to find someone who has? Consider these questions...

Which is the better place to go, New Zealand or Panama?

How much cash you can legally take out of the country?

What are the hot spots the Customs Department targets as suspicious entrance points?

What is FinCEN and how can it ruin your plans?

Where is it better to keep money, the Cayman Islands, Bermuda, or Switzerland?

Should you seek out the expatriates in your new country or lay low?

What should you do if someone recognizes you in your new home?

What happens if you get sick abroad?

After 9/11, none of the stuff mentioned in this worthless book even remotely works. BTW, the other reviewers are right: he doesn't really tell you *how* to do things anyway!

1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money.......2005-10-08

This book is for more affluent folks who already have access to this type of information. Outdated, sexist, even insulting to those who believe in paying their fair share. If you are a regular middle class or working class person who is fed up with paying through the nose to make everyone else richer, you are on the right path but this is NOT the book for you.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Great art, but wordy...........2007-08-14

The art in this book is great, but I felt that overall this is a great book for older flower girls between the ages of 6 and 8 (the flower girls participating in my wedding are 4 and 5). The text in the book was a little too wordy in some parts, however the duties of the flowergirl was covered very well.

5 out of 5 stars This is the one to buy! Perfect in every way!.......2007-07-10

I ordered 4 books on being a flower girl for my 4.5 year old granddaughter. This was the best of the 4 books I ordered. My granddaughter wasn't very excited about being a flower girl but this book changed her mind! She absolutely glowed when I read this to her! Each turn of the page was a delight! The book explains the steps to prepare for the big day. The author didn't miss a detail and wrote a cute little story along the way. My granddaughter's expression and soft "Ohh" when she saw the page with the bride in her wedding dress was priceless!

5 out of 5 stars Great price, cute book!.......2006-08-26

I got this book to help prepare my young flower girl for the big day.

3 out of 5 stars Christian-oriented with some questionable values.......2004-10-19

First of all, this book is fundamentally Christian non-denominational. The plot takes place at a church, so the book is inappropriate for Jewish weddings. [Although flower girls aren't part of a traditional Jewish wedding, many couples are incorporating it into ceremonies these days (because the kids are so cute and it saves them from boredom).]

The book is not offensive to other religions per se, so you could use it to give girls a general look at the role of a flower girl, but religion-based questions are likely to arise.

Secondly, the plot involves the flower girl putting on makeup. I wouldn't want to have my flower girl wearing, wanting, or expecting makeup.

Third, the flower girl's little brother doesn't want to be the ring bearer so he hides from his parents to avoid the task. I wouldn't want to plant this idea in a child's head.

Otherwise, the book is well-illustrated and colorful.

5 out of 5 stars Great Way To Get the Flower Girls Ready for The Big Day!.......2003-07-17

I actually gave this to my flower girls ahead of our wedding because they're very young and I wanted their moms to start preparing them with this story so they can know what to expect and be comfortable. It's a lovely book for the girls and their moms seem to really love it, too. Plus, it's so inexpensive! Definitely the best book I've seen as far as having a story kids can relate to and absolutely the lowest price.

1 out of 5 stars Not worth what I paid.......2007-10-09

"Trace" might be worth reading if you:
A. Have nothing else to read
B. Have no television
C. Have no radio
D. Have no one to talk to
E. Have no Internet access
F. Have no pictures to look at
G. Have no hobbies
H. Cannot take a walk or a drive
I. Have never read a novel before
J. Do not have English as a first language.
Anyone else should stay away.
I picked this up from the free shelf at the local library, and the 100 or so pages I got through made the effort of carrying the volume 20 meters to my bicycle basket and 20 meters from my bicycle to my apartment too great.
In the pages I read, there was nothing of interest and much to annoy. The saying "phoned in" may be literally appropriate here: the prose reads as if it is a transcription of spoken English, replete with alternating broken, incomplete sentences and sentences of the run-on variety.
Everyone should stay away from this, even those, like me, who weakly might decide to give Cornwell another chance after the "Blowfly" disaster.

3 out of 5 stars Trace.......2007-08-21

I've enjoyed the many "adventures" of Scapetta. This novel closely follows her established patterns, though Cornwell did try to spice it up by having her "return" to her previous area. Still, even with the extras thrown in, I felt it could/should have been establishing a somewhat different mystery. Disappointing.

1 out of 5 stars I give up on Cornwell.......2007-08-18

I loved Cornwell's first few books and couldn't wait to another to come out
Her last several books have been bad, with very disappointing endings to top it off, I hesitate to read another one.
With so many authors out there, I have to believe she is still published because of her first few books, and not on the merit or writing of her most recent books.
I think I have given Patricia Cornwell enough of my time.
If she no longer has the gift of a good writer, then she should end that chapter of her life and move on.

Very disappointed.

2 out of 5 stars Sadly shaking my head..........2007-08-14

I agree with most of the (negative) reviews, so won't rehash the storyline or the many, many disappointments (present tense, 3rd person, no mystery over who the killer was, several uncompleted plots, wanting to strangle Lucy, etc.). I keep reading Cornwell, foolishly hoping she will get better (if it is indeed her writing these books), because I am invested in the characters, but I'm going to have to come to the acceptance that this series has died.

3 out of 5 stars Not the Best.......2007-06-29

This is the first Cornwell book I read. It might be the last.

On the positive side, I did like some of Cornwell's character development. I had not read any other books of hers so this was my first introduction to Scarpetta and the other characters. I found it took me awhile to get used Cornwell's style of writing with switching back and forth to the third person.

The part that bothered me the most, however, was the ending to the book! It seemed as though Cornwell got tired of writing it and just stopped. This could have been much stronger.

I purchased the book at a reduced price. Had I paid full price for it, I would have been not too pleased.

    Product Description

Dr. Richard Olree believes that the key to the biological role of all trace minerals has been available to science for decades, but nobody realized it. Will his Standard Genetic Code Chart prove to be the Rosetta Stone of trace nutrients? Through sequencing the amino acids in the process of constructing proteins, Olree has traced all the elements to their participatory function in the life process. In this cutting-edge book, the connection is made between the physical, chemical and biological aspects of minerals and subatomic particles in the life process, and assignment is made of the specific mineral that governs each entry in the genetic code. This knowledge, based on peer-reviewed medical literature as well as research by forgotten innovators, suggests an end to the tyranny of pharmaceuticals. Each of the 64 sequences (or "codons") in the Standard Genetic Chart is discussed with an overlay of the mineral involved — its absence leading to degenerative disease; its presence ensuring that health is maintained. Dr Olree's genetic mineral chart overlaps the 64 codons that are now a part of "settled" science. This innovative book reveals a unique roadmap overlaying the body's deepest genetic need for specific minerals, classical chiropractic conditions, acupuncture meridians, and deficiency and disease indicators.

    5 out of 5 stars PERFECT.......2006-06-26

Book was written by a true professional. I like books that repeats itself a little bit in each chapter. This is how a true journalist writes a book. It is very important to go over in each chapter a little bit of what what taught in the previous chapter, this is called repetive learning and the learning will stick with you longer. Very good written book.

1 out of 5 stars stupid book and waste of money.......2005-08-27

Ok, Cichoke is not wrong. But here is the BIG problem. He repeats himself constantly. He cuts and pastes the same exact phrases over and over and over again on almost every page. The sloppiness and pure laziness of this book defy the mind. It is immoral to say so little and repeat it so often to make a book look big and fat. This entire book could have been written in about 20 pages. If I had seen this book before I would never have bought it. Buy any other book on enzymes. There is a caveat, if you can not remember what you have read as you turn from one page to another, then you will love this book. Every page is a near repeat of the page before. On the plus side, the info is accurate. I am not accusing him of being wrong. An additional problem is his zealous plugging for specific brands of enzymes, for no reason. Does he own stock? Lazy author, not much info, repetitious. Makes all health enthusiasts look like opportunists. SHAME!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Encyclopedia of Enzymes!.......2001-07-16

Dr. Cichoke does a great job of giving the basics of enzyme therapy, that is the therapeutic value of increasing the enzyme content of your diet. The book covers enzymes in natural foods, such as amylases (starch digesters) in beet juice, as well as powerful enteric-coated enzyme pills, such as Wobe Mugos. The book is divided into multiple sections. The first 88 pages are an introductory course in enzyme types (such as amylase, lipase, pancreatin, papain, etc), the function of enzymes, as well as an encyclopedia of "enzyme helpers" such as vitamins, etc, and their individual benefits. In fact, the information is extremely useful even for those not interested in enzyme therapy, particularly the tables listing various phytochemicals and their uses.

The rest of the book is grouped by disorder, such as cancer or MS, with enzyme prescriptions for each disease. The guide also documents research on herbs, vitamins, and even more mainstream medicines. The end of the book has popular enzyme formulas, addresses of public information groups, and various enzyme therapies. If you have read "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" you will find the format of this book to be almost identical to that. The disease section is comprehensive, although often I feel as if Cichoke is stretching it a bit on some diseases, since research on enzymes and their relation to most diseases is just not available yet.

Overall this book is fascinating and in some ways it should be used as the guide for those discovering enzymes and their value in medicine and nutrition. The only complaint I have is that at times the book does not get technical enough. It just did not answer many of my questions, which I would assume are common (such as, "how much Pancreatin survives the stomach environment?" Or, "will cellulase enzymes increase the calorie content of cellulose rich meals?"). Of course, enzyme therapy is, despite starting at the turn of the century, in its infancy, and many of these answers might not even exist yet. Enzymes and their uses fascinate me, and if you are intrigued as well, this book will prove more than satisfactory.

5 out of 5 stars Most Comprehensive Enzyme Therapy Book for lay & docs.......1999-04-20

This magnificent piece of work is a fantastic resource. It contains information on every imaginable enzyme known to be therapeutic as well as actions, benefits, contraindications, etc. Along with suppliers and clinicians. A "Must-Have" for doctors interested in getting their patients well. A loving, easy to read thorough work...Thank You Dr. Cichoke! I will use this in my practice and my ed classes.

5 out of 5 stars Great book for doctor's office and for fireplace reading.......2003-12-27

This book is under the banner of the famed Linus Pauling Institute (Oregon State University) has it has a great foreword by Bruce Ames. Linus Pauling was one of the best thinkers of the last century and he recommended much higher than RDA / Daily Value intakes from a multi-vitamin as well as some other supplements in order to help procure optimal health.

There is no science yet to suggest that Pauling was wrong about such high dose supplementation --for example to lower blood-toxin homocysteine, the most likely cause of most heart disease, some cancers and Alzheimer's disease. However, the medical world is slow embracing the evidence supporting this approach but that is changing.

This book is an important and tightly edited work that will help practicing physicians and interested lay people with factual data, pointers and references and even the most knowledgeable person will surely pick up important health information they would otherwise have missed.

This is a well organized handbook with 27 chapters for the individual vitamins and minerals and their effects, sources and therapeutic indications and drug interactions.

This book has "Tolerable Upper Levels" tables to satisfy even the most conservative physician but it must be said that this heading represents a level that prevents the most uncommon or even trivial interactions, and a level that may well be much below "Optimal Levels" as suggested by Pauling, and which are likely to promote health in the great majority of people.

The book would benefit from a "Pauling Proposed Probable Optimal Levels in Most" table and from the inclusion of chapters for what used to be named vitamin F, with the F from "Fat", i.e. the essential omega-3 and omega-6 oils, think of them as vitamins F-3 and F-6. Present intakes of omega-3s are well below adequate levels while omega-6 (linoleic acid from most vegetable oils) may well represent our most common "vitamin overdose".

The challenge of the new nutrition is figuring out the "Long-Latency Deficiency Diseases", LLDD's if you wish, caused by the insufficient intakes over time of one or several nutrients, from vitamin D and calcium for bone health, to the homocysteine-lowering trio of folic acid, B6 and B12 for heart and other diseases.

This book builds a solid foundation with what is known, it is without technical errors and it is clearly presented. Vital in a doctor's office and much recommended for the interested lay person. .....
