Book Description

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind reveals the missing link between wanting success and achieving it!

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to get rich easily, while others are destined for a life of financial struggle? Is the difference found in their education, intelligence, skills, timing, work habits, contacts, luck, or their choice of jobs, businesses, or investments?

The shocking answer is: None of the above!

In his groundbreaking Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, T. Harv Eker states: "Give me five minutes, and I can predict your financial future for the rest of your life!" Eker does this by identifying your "money and success blueprint." We all have a personal money blueprint ingrained in our subconscious minds, and it is this blueprint, more than anything, that will determine our financial lives. You can know everything about marketing, sales, negotiations, stocks, real estate, and the world of finance, but if your money blueprint is not set for a high level of success, you will never have a lot of money—and if somehow you do, you will most likely lose it! The good news is that now you can actually reset your money blueprint to create natural and automatic success.

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind is two books in one. Part I explains how your money blueprint works. Through Eker's rare combination of street smarts, humor, and heart, you will learn how your childhood influences have shaped your financial destiny. You will also learn how to identify your own money blueprint and "revise" it to not only create success but, more important, to keep and continually grow it.

In Part II you will be introduced to seventeen "Wealth Files," which describe exactly how rich people think and act differently than most poor and middle-class people. Each Wealth File includes action steps for you to practice in the real world in order to dramatically increase your income and accumulate wealth.

If you are not doing as well financially as you would like, you will have to change your money blueprint. Unfortunately your current money blueprint will tend to stay with you for the rest of your life, unless you identify and revise it, and that's exactly what you will do with the help of this extraordinary book. According to T. Harv Eker, it's simple. If you think like rich people think and do what rich people do, chances are you'll get rich too!

5 out of 5 stars Highly recommended!.......2007-10-06

T. Harv Eker has written an excellent book that makes you look into yourself to help identify what is holding you back from achieving your financial goals. In reading this book, you challenge your assumptions about yourself and he makes you think if you are truly willing to do what it takes to be rich. Extremely worthwhile and I will pursue additional materials and opportunities to hear Mr. Eker speak.

4 out of 5 stars Mind Over Matter.......2007-10-01

The key to achieving any goal is to mentally determine that it can be done and that you will accomplish it. This book will help you develop the mentality that will increase your odds of gaining wealth. That quest starts out with a bit of house cleaning. The author first helps you to unlearn all of the bad habits that are holding you back financially. After that foundation is laid, he goes on to layout his philosophies the mind set needed to get rich.

I was uncomfortable with his references to the "universe." He seems to use this term in place of God. I've never heard people speak in that way. Otherwise it is a great read.

5 out of 5 stars Secrets of the Millionaire Mind .......2007-09-28

Harv Eker has hit the "nail on the head" with this exciting, upbeat, and challenging "How to" for those of us that want to break out of the poor mentality. I have read many books on this subject but Harv brings new insights into a well writen about arena. He has "passion" about his ideas and suggestions for mastering the inner game of Wealth. My wife and I have both read this book and go back and re-read many time. Good STUFF!!

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-09-19

This book is not about how to invest in the market or any get rich quick scheme. It is a holistic approach to how successful people think and do. Although the topic is about having money, it first questions how you feel about having money. The first part is quite interesting as it gives various examples of how, through conditioning, we have opinions which have been formed at an early age, about money. There are NLP ties throughout this book.

Then Eker introduces 17 "wealth files" which each have various strategies, illustrations and comparisons for those that earn money and those who don't. The message is still clear that you must go and take action as nothing is going to simply fall into your lap. That being said, it begins with the mindset first.

This book is well written, and is a fast read. It is also equipped with many great one liner's, metaphors and stories.

5 out of 5 stars You get to say how it will go..........2007-09-11

This is an awesome read for anyone. It is especially poignant for those who know they have what it takes to make it big; but continue to not master whatever it is that they need to get there. These ideas and concepts can be applied to life; not just creating wealth. T. Harve Eker does a great job of relating to his audience in easy going everyday terminology.
I have been quoting this book since the very first day I listen to the CD. This is a well done first rate book; buy it for your Dad, your Mom, your Brother, Sister; anyone that you care about.

Book Description

When life seems to be full of doubt and uncertainty we tend to look for a source of inspiration: what will happen in the future? What about my health, the children? What will happen if I make this decision and not that one? This is how the traditional tarot is often used, to satisfy a longing to know about the past and future. This Osho Zen Tarot focuses instead on gaining an understanding of the here and now. It is a system based on the wisdom of Zen, a wisdom that says events in the outer world simply reflect in the outer world simply reflect our own thoughts and feelings, even though we ourselves might be unclear about what those thoughts and feelings are. So it helps us to turn our attention away from outside events so we can find a new clarity of understanding in our innermost hearts. The conditions and states of mind portrayed by the contemporary images on the cards are all shown as being essentially transitional and transformative. The text in the accompanying book helps to interpret and understand the images in the simple, straightforward and down to earth language of Zen.

5 out of 5 stars The most Beautiful Tarot Deck I have ever seen!.......2007-08-17

When I first saw this deck, I was immediately drawn to it and captivated by it's beauty. When I got my own Osho Zen Tarot deck, and I first held it, it just felt right, I felt connected to it. I love using this deck and every spread is just perfect. It is a Zen deck, so it tends to focus more on the now. The interpretation and insight into each card is backed by a lot of great wisdom. Sometimes, I'll choose 1 card from the deck as something to meditate on for the day. This deck always leaves me feeling wonderful and connected to everything. It's amazing. I'm sure you won't regret purchasing this deck. In fact, I've tried a couple other decks, that are more widely used, and I feel absolutely nothing from them. There's just something about this deck that just feels very positive and good. It's the only deck I use. =)

5 out of 5 stars An interesting variant.......2007-06-07

This deck is well-packaged and well-made with beautiful images. It is not just another Rider-Waite variant, but has been carefully designed around its theme of the teachings of Zen Buddhism. I thoroughly recommend it as an interesting change of pace from RW decks, especially for those who are interested in practicing mindfulness and developing self-awareness.

5 out of 5 stars Stunningly Beautiful!.......2007-01-30

It just doesn't get any better!! This is an incredibly rich set of images that instruct gently, with beauty -- the way learning is SUPPOSED to be! Even difficult reflections of self are delivered with tenderness which, I believe, is a result of the artist's loving intention. You WON'T be disappointed!

Book Description

Real people, real transformations!

"Absolutely amazing! It completely shifts your paradigm for life. One of the most wonderful things about it is that the results are immediate. My whole perception and relationship to money has undergone a major, substantial change."
—Chris Attwood, writer and teacher, California

"I've spent most of my life trying to figure out what's true and what's real. I have to say I now have a clear glimpse into what it really is."
—Tom Hill, Colorado

"Before Busting Loose from The Money Game, I was very unhappy and frustrated in my life. I was driven to find more ways to make money. I changed jobs, cities, countries, went back to school, read books. Financially, the stress was causing anxiety attacks and migraines so severe I stayed in bed. The joy I feel now is priceless. Money is there when I need it, in the amount that's needed, no matter what occurs (car repairs, unplanned trips, etc.). It's absolutely amazing!"
—Suresh Thakoor, Texas

"As a retired professor on a fixed and limited income, I always lived from a tight budget and felt compressed by it-especially at the end of the year. I don't use a budget anymore and have opened up new streams of income that were always closed to me in the past."
—Howard Rovics, Connecticut

"It opened a whole new dimension for me and shifted my perspective on life completely. I especially love how practical it is. The application is so simple, so effective . . . and fun!"
—Doris Kahle, Hagen, Germany

"I'd had a lot of success in the corporate arena, made a ridiculous amount of money and lost a ridiculous amount of money. But I was caught in a cycle of making it, losing it. I needed to break that cycle-for myself and my family-and this gave me the keys to do that. Busting Loose from The Money Game opened a window I had no clue even existed. This is very cutting-edge, a revolutionary approach to unwrapping yourself from limitations. If you're not satisfied with where you are financially and you're concerned about your future, get this book!"
—Ben Coleman, Texas

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars not worth your time.......2007-10-06

I am what my friends call money and self help obsessed...so reading this book was no stretch for me. I can honestly say that I have read a lot of books on money, and a lot of books about freeing you mind...and this is the WORST book written on both subjects. I totally wasted my time, please take my advice and don't waste yours. Every chapter left me thinking...WHAT? no seriously what is he talking about? It was worthless and I would never recommend it to anyone.

1 out of 5 stars This book has NOTHING to do with money. Don't waste your time or money.......2007-09-30

This book has nothing to do with money. It is a book full of vain philosophies, none of which are backed with any proof whatsoever. If you are looking for good books on managing money, getting out of debt, or building wealth I would recommend books such as: The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey; Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kyosaki; Multiple Streams of Income by Robert Allen; and Money, What Financial "Experts" Will Never Tell You by Alan Williams, Peter Jeppson, and Sanford Botkins. Also check out the website and resources found at [...].

2 out of 5 stars Is Comfort Important To You?.......2007-09-28

Like others have said, the idea is the world, including the human experience is holographic. Maybe it's true, maybe it's not. I'd save a lot then expect to lose it over the course of a year or more it would take you to cross the mental point where you 'bust loose' and really convince yourself that life and money aren't real. At the very least, do not owe anyone money. I just could not vibe with this book for long. I'd rather save, invest and get stuff I want.

Try the library. I never read it now.

5 out of 5 stars An Amazing Book.......2007-09-20

This is an amazing book that really helps the reader to eliminate the sources of dissatisfaction in his/her life if one is willing to commit to The Process. After just a few short days of using The Process I have had some incredible personal breakthroughs and I eagerly look forward to what else I create within my life experience.

My inspiration to buy this book came largely from the few really negative reviews written on this site. Thank you to all those who shared their fears in the form of attacks against the book and its author. I have been clearly shown again that there is tremendous value in that which stirs up so much emotion as people keep their death grip on obsolete views of the nature of life. The world never was flat just because people believed that to be true, acted as if it were true, and invested their lives in protecting those beliefs.

In the pages of this book you will not find strategies on how to earn more money or to protect what you already think that you have, however you will find a strategy to recover all of the energy and power that you have given to your life situations. As you recover this power you will have the capacity to act more boldly to pursue the unique authentic life that you came here to live.

If you have any inclination to buy the book, just go for it. Then give yourself the gifts of reading it with an open mind and applying its wisdom to your life.

Whether you liked the book or not - HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!

1 out of 5 stars Author FAILS to prove his thesis, to put his money where his mouth is. .......2007-08-19

The author proposes that money is an illusion (agreed)and that you can create all the money you want by fully transcending the illusion. He gives a primitive method to eliminate negative beliefs and emotional charges about money --(Psycanics offers a more precise, faster, less painful and more powerful technique.) The book is well written and interesting, even plausible. The reason I fail the book with 1 star is that, at the end, the author states that it is possible to have an infinite abundance of money (one way is writing "magic" checks that are always good). However, the author apparently has never done this. He says he still has multiple streams of normal income from books and businesses and speaking engagements. Until the author proves his thesis by eliminating all human income sources and actually lives wealthy by the means he proposes, this book is just a FANTASY.

Book Description

More than 65 delightful games and activities to jump-start your baby's amazing brainpower

Can simply singing a song or blowing a dandelion under a toddler's nose help her mind to blossom? Can your baby count, remember events, and solve problems even before he can talk? The exciting answer to both questions is yes!

Breakthrough research is revealing the extraordinary inborn abilities of infants.
It is also showing how experiences during the first years of life profoundly
influence intelligence, creativity, language development-and even later
reading and math skills.

Now two psychologists and child development experts-authors of the bestselling Baby Signs-have created a delightful guide for parents based on the most up-to-date knowledge of how babies discover the world. You'll learn how to:

_ Create a homemade mobile to stimulate your three-month-old's delight in solving problems
_ Play a patty-cake game to help your two-year-old
make logical connections
_ Initiate bedtime conversations that build your child's memory and sense of personal history
_ Develop "Baby Signs" to help your toddler communicate before he or she can talk
_ Stimulate your child's natural number skills with puppets and counting games
_ Use nursery rhymes and special read-aloud techniques to foster reading readiness
_ Nurture budding creativity with humor and fantasy play
_ And much more!

Baby Minds is not another program for creating "super babies." Instead it
builds on activities that babies instinctively love to develop their unique abilities and make your daily interactions full of the joy of discovery-for both of you.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous book - every parent should have!.......2007-08-01

I read this book and then bought a copy so I could keep it as a reference. Full of fascinating information about baby development that every parent should know -- I was surprised to learn just how advanced babies' minds are as soon as they are born, how they are much more aware of the world around them than previously thought. This book has many ideas of how to capitalize on your baby's brain development as s/he grows. Simple and fun games to play and ways to interact with your child. I love this book and have used many of the ideas already with my 8-month-old daughter.

5 out of 5 stars Focusing Mr. Live Wire.......2007-05-13

Our first and only grandchild has the typical inquisitive mind of a toddler. This book helps us to offer additional play that will encourage the mind. It is the small things that have influenced him the most.

4 out of 5 stars Great info on baby's brains!.......2007-03-28

Sort of a review of "Early Childhood Development" courses. With reference to Skinner and Vygotsky's work. Very interesting and a fast, easy read.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting but wordy.......2006-11-04

This is an interesting book and it goes into detail about little minds, but some of it may be too technical for parents who just want to learn the games and not why or how they stimulate. Some parents might not have time to read all the background info and would like to just get down to the fun part, which is a little bit difficult with this book. Still, if you have the time to devote to this book, it really is interesting and enlightening and may encourage you to try to develop even more games to stimulate your child's growing mind which is certainly a good thing!

3 out of 5 stars prefer Perlmutter's Raise a Smarter Child by Kindergarten.......2006-10-24

If you are looking for more activities / games to play with your child, there are over 30 in chapter 3 of David Perlmutter's book, Raise A Smarter Child by Kindergarten.

5 out of 5 stars Book #2 in the Ghostwalker Series.......2007-08-14

I read this book first in this series and really liked it.

Now the ghostwalkers are not ghosts. They are former military who signed their bodies over to an agency for "enhancements." Most already possessed some kind of "ability," i.e., mind reading, etc

This was Dahlia and Nicolas' story.

Nicolas was the former soldier that was enhanced.

Dahlia was one of the "girls" that Dr. Whitney "adopted" and then enhanced in very cruel ways. The girls were all given names of flowers and NO LOVE.

This was a wonderful romance. Nicolas goes to get Dahlia once they realize where she is. These two team up (and there's a reason they team up, but you need to read it). Don't want to give away the story.

I liked this book. Moves right along in typical Ms. Feehan style.

1 out of 5 stars Mind Game.......2006-11-20

I kept waiting for something to happen, the main character was anoying, things like this "she was so small she looked like a child" I ask just how sexy is that supposed to be and the guy was big etc etc. Nobe that this story gets a star is very generous of me.

As I was reading this I kept thinking, is this over, somthing anything to bring this book around. (sigh) but we can't like them all.

4 out of 5 stars Fire and Ice.......2006-08-06

Dahlia was born with special abilities. A wealthy doctor experimented on her. Then she went to work for the NCIS. Unknown to her there are other people similar to her. One of them is her rescuer who has been tasked to retrieve her alive when somebody tries to kill her. In running away from danger and searching for the traitor, these two find out that they complement each other. The writer puts their encounters in wild and expressive descriptions. Most characters possess paranormal powers. They are trained to survive and live among people by one of them, Lily. It is also an appropriate touch that all of them have money, thanks to the trust funds arranged by their tormentor, the ambitious Dr. Whitney. The first half of the book deals with Nicolas saving Dahlia. The second half concentrates on finding the traitor who wants Dahlia dead. The subject of family and friendship is the main focus throughout the whole story. It is an action-packed tale filled with passionate feats, witty banters, conflicting emotions, and mentions of the other person's name in conversations.

5 out of 5 stars Great product! Fast shipping!.......2006-07-05

Item was in great condition! Got here a lot faster than I expected! Thanks!

5 out of 5 stars Much better than most of her "Dark" books.......2006-06-25

This book is one of her best novels. The author finally spends more time "showing" than she does "telling."

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have.......2007-05-08

Wonderful step by step book. Well illustrated and easy to understand. Was able learn and perform numerous tricks in a matter of one day..A must have for any beginner

5 out of 5 stars Should be on everyones shelf........2007-04-01

This book truly is phenomonal. It has every type of magic you can think of, coin, cards, stage, mentalism, self working, impromptu, gimmicked. It even goes as far as to give you tricks for things like jumbo cards and sponge balls.

Not only this but at the beginning of every chapter Mark Wilson reminds you of what magic is all about, he writes two or three paragraphs about the specific type of magic and how wonderful it can be. Mark also has a biography and an essay on magic at the beginning which is fantastic, and after years I still find myself going back and reading it just for a reminder of what got me into magic originally.

All of the descriptions to the tricks are well written, have accompanying pictures for EVERY move. He even gives secondary ways to do several of the moves and has an Notes and Reminds section after the tricks putting in personal notes about specific parts of the trick. Its obvious how much effort and work went into this book. In closing, this is a book that every magician new or old should have in his shelf, right next to Bobo's Modern Coin Magic, and Royal Road to Card Magic.

5 out of 5 stars Cheap and Comprehensive.......2007-03-20

This book is a treasure trove of tricks, which the author explains in a clean, concise fashion. Highly recommended over other books, which tend to include fewer tricks, occassionally with a glossier, but not superior, presentation.

4 out of 5 stars Plenty of material for all levels of magicians.......2007-02-19

This magic book runs the gamut from beginners tricks to tricks many professionals use. I've been performing as a part-time professional magician myself for several years now, and I still found things in this book I hadn't seen before or new twists on things I was familiar with.

The biggest drawback to this is the sheer volume of information it contains. If I'd come across this book when I was first getting into magic, I would've been absolutely overwhelmed. It's still a lot to digest now. But if you read through it and pick and choose tricks here and there that fit your style and personality, you'll find it very useful. It's like a cafeteria -- go down the line, picking out the things you want and skipping the things you don't, then go back to your table and chew on them and enjoy them.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome price for a classic........2007-01-20

I was browing Amazon checking out some other books, and up popped Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic. I have seen it years ago, and it's a great manual of all things magic. The bargain price was my best buy of this year, a one inch tear in the binding shaved more than 50% off the price of my copy. (Now if only I could get more books in this shape). The closest book would be Tarbell's at $20 a book, my full collection of Tarbell covers more items, but Mark Wilson's is easy to digest and the photos just make it a super book. This is a must buy for anyone with interest in performing magic.

3 out of 5 stars Great game, but you don't need the book........2007-06-28

I learned of the cube from a friend, who helped me through the exercise. I have done it for myself and for friends multiple times since. "Knowing the secret" (which frankly I think is a ridiculous way of putting it) only ruins it for you if you believe it does. Don't limit yourself, you can play this game again and again. As you change, your answers may change too, giving you new insight into yourself and your path. I do think it is a much more organic experience to do the cube person to person, rather than using the book. Just like reading Tarot is better without referring to the manual. I wish you peace and harmony on your journey.

5 out of 5 stars Great book!.......2007-06-05

This book was fun and informative. I cubed myself and all my family members. It really was accurate. But, once you use it and know the secret you can't play again, so I passed mine along to my sister and she cubed her friends and passed it on. It is really interesting to see what other people pick for their items, especially after you already know the secret yourself. It is worth buying, but you might already know someone who has the book and would be willing to let you use it.

1 out of 5 stars To call this a "book" is an overstatement.......2007-05-22

The book is based on a mind game, which I won't spoil here (out of respect for the reader, not for the benefit of the authors). However, don't be fooled by the 200-something page count. The authors use about 30-40 words per page, as if they are writing poetry, and the entire trick can be described in 10 pages maximum, including commentary. Granted, the game itself is neat and can be used as an icebreaker, but you don't need this so-called "book" to learn a tale that belongs in the public domain. Overall, this is a waste of money and shelf space.

5 out of 5 stars the cube is fairly accurate.......2007-05-13

it is a great ice breaker to use. The storm part seems to be the one that doesn't fit.

5 out of 5 stars Spend an evening discovering your inner self..........2007-04-23

This is one of the books that I really like. I carry this book with me all the time and take it to small get-togethers and partys and it provides hours of entertainement. Not only is this entertaining but also, by answering 5 simple questions you will really discover some deep secrets about yourself and the people you play this game with. I wish they had more books like this, that is simple and yet very entertaining and insightful.

Keep a copy. It will be money well spent.

Book Description

Poker is a game of many skills and to become an expert poker player you need to master them all. This includes concepts such as hand selection, position, proper image projection, and reading hands. However, there are many players who have mastered most of these skills yet they still do poorly in the games — at best they are only small winners. And when they step up in limit and challenge the better players, they almost always fail. You see, knowing the concept is one thing, putting it all together is another.

As the text will show, winning poker is a process that requires a lot of thinking as well as a thorough and systematic approach to the game, and that is what this book is about. Topics include "Playing Too Many Hands," "Self-Weighting Cold Calls," "Short-Handed Play: Don't Miss Out," "The Strategic Moment in Hold 'em," "Countering a Good Reader," "A Poker Player in Therapy," and "Thoughts on the Effects of the Poker Literature." Those of you who are serious about your game should find much of this material to be extremely valuable.

5 out of 5 stars The Most Conceptual Poker Book. .......2005-11-14

I heard about Inside the Poker Mind from a few players who post at a forum I frequent, and I finally got around to purchasing it. Frankly, I have difficulty believing anybody gave this one less than 5 stars because it is a rare and excellent work. I will admit that it is not a book for beginners or even those who have yet to read Ed Miller's Small Stakes Hold `Em, but it offers extensive benefits for the intermediate player on up. Inside... is basically a collection of essays concerning topics seldom discussed, or not addressed in detail, within the typical "how to" manual. Feeney, despite having a PhD and being an accomplished high stakes player, is not broadcasting to readers from Phil Ivey-ian heights. Feeney ground out poker at the lowest levels before becoming the player he is today. His experiences in the small limits ring true for those of us dwelling in them today. My favorite essay in here, "How am I doing? Who Cares?", warns readers not to be results oriented in regards to sessions. Variance is sometimes mind-boggling, but what we must do is concentrate on playing correctly despite our aces being snapped or getting cold-decked. Really, the entire Part IV section on poker and emotion is sensational. His definition of tilt is much more subtle than the ones generally offered, and, I believe, it is much more accurate. Overall, with brilliant analysis and clear style, Inside... is far better than most of its competitors. It's for the thinking man which is what everyone should aspire to be if they want to make any money out of the game.

2 out of 5 stars This is a Book of Cautionary Tales; Not a Strategic Text.......2005-11-06

I find the title of this book to be slightly misleading: "Inside the Poker Mind" is a collection of essays on what NOT to do as a poker player (e.g. do not get smug and play weak cards, do not go on tilt, do not overestimate your odds, do not play beyond your means, do not take bad beats personally, etc.). From the title one might expect the text to relate in some way to getting "into the mind" of one's opponent (i.e. the text may have some strategic advice); this is simply not the case. There are a handful of strategic plays involved in this book, and some consideration of reading hands. However, these are addressed from the perspective of how not to make a mistake in either overusing certain strategies, or being too rigid in the face of changing conditions in the hand.

Essentially, this book assumes you already know everything there is to know about being a good poker player, and merely need some cautionary advice on avoiding common mistakes. While not valueless, I do not believe this focus serves the prospective readers of the book; the author frequently references "Hold 'em Poker for Advanced Players" and "The Theory of Poker" to flesh out ideas he mentions in passing, and probably the reader would do better to explore those books IN PLACE of this one (although I have a very low opinion of "Hold 'em Poker for Advanced Players"). The warnings this book contains are well-advised, however, and on the whole I'd probably give this book 2 1/2 stars if I could.

HITS: Cautions against overplaying marginal hands; good essays exploring the tilt phenomenon; the author's "by the numbers" pure analytical mindset becomes infectious, and could influence your play for the better

MISSES: The author is so vehemently anti-no limit and pot limit hold 'em that he refuses to address these games at all (absolutely do not attempt to use the author's strategic limit plays in a no limit or pot limit game); tournaments are denigrated as a drain on the poker economy (demonstrably false, in my opinion); no basic strategy advice; references other texts (particularly "Hold 'em Poker for Advanced Players" - a terrible book in my opinion - and "The Theory of Poker", which is truly great) excessively to fill in basic ideas that more properly could be explained in the text.

5 out of 5 stars A fantastic hold'em book for experienced players.......2005-05-04

This is one of my favorite poker books. It is not for beginners; it is filled with interesting and advanced topics in limit Hold'em. This is a good book for any reader who is looking to read more advanced material. The section titled "Do You Pass the Ace-Queen Test?" was controversial when the book first came out, but Feeney's thoughts has proven to be correct. The Short-Handed essays are illuminating as well. Definitely a great addition to any hold'em library.

4 out of 5 stars Add this to your library.......2005-03-24

I'm a fairly serious poker player. As such, I have a lot of the books everyone talks about; Super System I, most of Sklansky and Malmuth, even Phil Helmuth. (I'm not a fan of Phil, but he makes some good points, especially on Omaha) I debated getting Inside the Poker Mind for a while. Wish I had gotten it a long while ago! It's not the "greatest" poker book I've read...hey, I only gave it 4 stars. It is, however, very useful in that it does illustrate some real issues with thinking at the table. While I found that I knew much of what he had to say, I still enjoyed the book and feel it improved my game somewhat. However, as other reviewers have noted, NOTHING takes the place of LOTS of hands played. As an aside from the review, my personal recommendation is as follows:

1) Get the books and study. Re-read as your game improves.
2) Play on-line cheaply and move up in limit as your game improves.
3) Buy the Wilson software...it's not impressive looking, but it lets you play millions of hands without going into your wallet.
4) Get into or start a home game and play as often as possible. Playing with friends isn't as scary as with strangers at a casino.
5) When you've done the first 4 things, visit a local casino or cardroom and try an inexpensive game.

If you're still losing money after that, I suggest you switch to checkers or tiddlywinks.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Face yourself.......2005-05-26

I recently had the ability to listen to Sarano speak, and I have read his book. Outstanding to say the least. He helps YOU realize what YOUR potential is and he helps YOU open your eyes to what is holding you back from being the best you can be. In all honestly, he made me face the things that I hated to face, and didn't want too, more importantly the truth. After you realize what is holding you back, he gets you on track to make the changes you need to make, not in the future, but in the NOW. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to better themselves no matter if it professionally, personally, or spiritually.

1 out of 5 stars Get ready for the Coolaid!.......2005-04-23

I sat through a Sarano Kelley seminar a few years ago while I was employed with a financial services firm. He is a dynamic speaker to say the least. He is also incredibly manipulative. He has a way of convincing everyone in the room they are "asleep" and need his "Game" very urgently. His game, or the away from home motivational boot camp he puts together in San Diego, costs over $20,000.00! You get up early in the morning, go through high physical exhaustion, highly emotional conversations, and then you get to the training sessions. When you are exhausted and emotional you are at your most vulnerable to suggestion. This is classic nuerolinguistic programming, or NLP. NLP techniques are how cults brainwash people. Look it up!

Sarano also loved to talk about the movie The Matrix and how it was like real life. I guess he likens himself to the character of Morpheus. He has the way, the answers, the road to being awake in life while others sleep. Classic hucksterism.

I went away from his seminar convinced I was a piece of crap and needed fixing. I even considered the whole "Game" program. I also knew I was manipulated. I soon started to get phone calls from their sales department trying to pressure me into the program. "Just put it on your credit card" they would tell me. When I asked them to stop the calls the sales person said, "Well, it's obvious you're not coachable." The high pressure stuff felt evil and insincere!

I will never forget Sarano. I will also never look at the whole business of motivational speakers the same again. I'm sure some are great and sincere. Some are nothing more than mind games that feed off of the frailty of the human condition.

Don't buy his book. Don't drink the Coolaid.

4 out of 5 stars A Great Start.......2002-11-30

Being a psychiatrist I am exposed to man theories, publications, and other forms of communication regarding improving ones's life. As you can imagine I have become rather skeptical about this genre of "self help" titles. I began reading The Game by Mr. Kelley with a fairly high degree of doubt whether it would have any meaning or standout from other works of its ilk in any way. I must say I was pleasantly suprised and found Part I of to be an excellent outline for the one thing we all strive for... some degree of CONTROL in our lives. Mr. Kelley gives a clear and consise plan to begin this process, followed by more detail in Part II & III, on how to accomplish this life long task. Having been an athlete The Game strikes a cord prompting me to re-examine several aspects of my life and make some changes. This was no mean feat for a cynical physician. I am even going to offer The Game to the employees in my practice as a Holiday gift. One will not find the Holy Grail in any book of this nature, or anywhere else for that matter, but with The Game at least you can begin the search.

1 out of 5 stars "The Joke", not "The Game".......2002-06-02

GIVE ME A BREAK!! Who needs to be told to "enjoy life more" and "laugh more"??? Someone who actually benefits from this book must be in a lot of pain.
