The hero of Jeffery Deaver's thriller The Bone Collector is Lincoln Rhyme, a forensic scientist known to his peers as "the world's foremost criminalist." Rhyme will need all his reason--and his considerable stock of high-tech tools--about him to solve this latest brain-twister: a serial killer with method to his madness. In tried and true thriller fashion, the killer's crimes are described in lurid detail, as is the astounding technological equipment with which Rhyme examines the evidence--everything from an energy-dispersive x-ray unit to a mass spectrometer.
Every fictional detective has his or her gimmick, from Sherlock Holmes's violin to Nero Wolf's orchids, and Rhyme is no exception. He is a quadriplegic who can move nothing but a single finger. Gadget-philes will be in seventh heaven reading about Lincoln Rhyme's tools; other readers might feel the book could do with a few more plausible characters and a little less technology.

The Bone Collector.......2007-09-29
Lincoln Rhyme has been retired, ever since a falling beam at a crime scene, left him a quadriplegic. Now, Lincoln is bed ridden, with his only human contact being a man named Thom. He dreams of killing him self, when some thing new, to occupy his time.
A serial killer, called the Bone Colector, is terrorizing the city of New York. With every person he kills, he leaves behind evidence that will lead to the next victim. Unfortunetly, this is only half the work, and Rhyme needs some one to do the crime scene for him.
Enter Amelia Sachs. Sachs is a model turned cop, who has several problems of her own. At first, she, like most people, is able to see past Rhyme's physical handicap, and be disgusted by his personality. But, Lincoln and Amelia will have to work together, to defeat a man who knows every one of Lincoln's tricks, and whose final victim, is Lincoln.
Notable Charecters Introduced: Lincoln Rhyme, Amelia Sachs, Thom Lastname, Lon Sellitto, The Bone Collector.
Excellent adventure that I couldn't put down........2007-07-21
The character of the Bone Collector is extremely spooky. As already stated in numerous other reviews, this is an excellent story that keeps the reader turning pages as fast as possible. The characters, especially Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs, are developed enough that I have already begun to read another Deaver story starring Lincoln Rhyme: I want to know more about them. I won't give a synopsis as so many other reviewers have dutifully done. I just recommend this fast-paced, spine-chilling mystery/adventure novel to everyone!
Amazing book with Fresh Characters.......2007-07-15
Lincoln Rhyme is a suicidal quadriplegic whose main ambition for the past year has been to find a way to kill himself. Amelia Sachs is a patrolwoman on the brink of getting out of patroling the streets due to chronic arthritis.
Together they are brought together as a madman terrorizes New York. Reluctantly, they trudge through the crime scenes, looking to piece together crime scenes that a littered with subtle clues as to what will transpire next. The pieces of the puzzle must be put together as the clock ticks, another victim is certain to die.
Throughout the story, a rather strange connection is made between Rhyme and Sachs. Deaver makes no attempt to shield the graphic nature of the murders, or attempted murders, or the struggles of a quadriplegic to live life. This is a well researched, very well written book.
Highly recommended book.
Koonts,Deaver,Patterson,Chstistine Feehand,Laurel Hamilton,John Saul LOVER.......2007-07-12
This is the first Lincoln Rhyme book I read and I was hooked. Deaver is a master at twist and turns. I consider his books pageturners.
A Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin for modern mystery readers.......2007-05-25
Patrol officer Amelia Sachs, on her last day as a beat cop, is looking forward to her new assignment with Public Affairs. Her plans are upset when she, by virtue of being first on the scene, is forced to secure the area surrounding a murder site. This is no ordinary murder scene, however--it has been carefully staged. The body has been buried vertically, the victim's hand protruding from a mound of dirt. The murderer calls himself The Bone Collector, and, in his arrogance, has deliberately left clues near the body which, when properly interpreted, provide insight into his plans for future victims.
The police bring the case to Lincoln Rhyme, former head of NYPD Forensics. Rhyme, "the world's foremost criminalist," was crippled on the job four years earlier, and is now confined to a wheelchair. Intrigued by the case, he drafts the reluctant Amelia as his assistant, and together, they race against time to catch the killer. In a bizarre twist, Rhyme eventually realizes that the Bone Collector has orchestrated these macabre events specifically to attract his attention.
The Bone Collector is riveting, full of technological references and forensic lore. Much of the book is based on Locard's Exchange Principle, which holds that whenever two human beings come into contact, something from one is exchanged with the other, and vica versa. It's fascinating to watch Rhyme and company prove this adage again and again as they glean valuable information from the tiniest of clues--I guarantee you'll never watch a crime drama in the same way after reading this book. Also intriguing is Deaver's use of the Unsub (unknown subject) Chart, which collects all known information on the perpetrator. The chart, which is updated as Rhyme and his group uncover evidence, is presented every few chapters, helping the reader to recall what has gone before, and challenging him to solve the murder himself.
If this book has a weakness, it is its lack of character development. Readers learn very little about any of Deaver's characters--the only two folks the audience comes close to knowing are Rhyme and Amelia--Rhyme's angst is compelling, and Amelia's struggle with her sense of duty and her joy in discovering a new line of work is very convincing. In the final analysis, however, this is a minor criticism--the frantic pace, mayhem, and attention to detail more than make up for this small flaw.

Wonderful Reference Guide to Fostoria Glassware.......2002-10-03
Wonderful reference guide to Fostoria Glassware. I would have preferred more color pictures to get a clear image of the glassware. Some pages tend to be a little dark. I feel this book is more for the Experienced Fostoria Glassware Collector.

Book Description
The finest North American Indian artifacts were made of organic materials, and luckily many survive. Materials used include the most common, bone, plus antler, shell, fur, ivory, and horn. Artifact classes range from projectile points and awls to fishhooks, gorgets, beads, and more. Collectors today value such pieces because of their artistic beauty and rarity. Most of them were destroyed by natural processes over the centuries, so those that remain are treasured. Lar Hothem, author of the bestselling five-volume series Indian Artifacts of the Midwest, has once again produced a fantastic book for Indian artifacts collectors. Each artifact includes information on type or class, material, size, find-location, and (in most cases) an estimated value. Background information is included about these artifacts, including finds made throughout North America. Advertisements from early dealers are listed, as well as recent auction results. This book opens the window to a fascinating world of study and collecting.
Customer Reviews:
NO BONE TO PICK WITH THE BONE COLLECTOR..........2005-08-01
This is an especially suspenseful thriller made more so by the personal angst of the main character, Lincoln Rhyme. A quadriplegic, forensic ex-detective for the New York City Police Department, Rhyme is brought out of retirement by the police department to assist them in the apprehension of an apparently psychopathic killer who is loose on the streets of New York.
The forays into bits of arcane New York history, as well as the sleuthing done almost entirely through the application of forensics and deductive reasoning, make for a very interesting read. While at times it seems that no one could be as uncannily accurate as Rhyme in deciphering the meaning of the physical evidence, this contrivance does serve to move the plot along. With the story line so engrossing and the crime scenes horrific, as well as ingenious, it is the kind of book that is hard to put down, because you simply cannot wait to see what happens. The surprise ending is the icing on the cake.
Assisting Rhyme with his work is Police Officer Sachs who, while not as compelling a character as Rhyme, is essential to the story. It is her character who does the 'heavy lifting' so to speak. Highly intelligent and resourceful, with an innate appreciation of the importance of physical evidence, she inspects and preserves the crime scenes, as well as gathers the physical evidence from which Rhyme ultimately weaves his magic. She also serves as somewhat of a Deus Ex Machina in that she saves the day in more ways than one.
Sachs is a wonderful foil for Rhyme in that she runs hot to his cold. She is driven by her desire to help others, as well as by her own personal demons, while he is ever the calm, cool, collected clinician, whose desire to preserve a crime scene may supercede the milk of human kindness latent within his emotionally atrophied soul. The personal connection that Rhyme ultimately develops with Officer Sachs is one that leaves you hoping that they will be teamed up again in yet another novel.

Would Lincoln's Expertise Ever Track Down This Killer?.......2003-08-19
This was the first of Jeffrey Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme series books. It was also the first time I read any books by this author, and definitely enjoyed the book!
Lincoln Rhyme, who is a depressed quadrapeligic had to retire his work from the force due to his disabilities. But that didn't stop him from using his mind with his co-worker friends to solve this case of a diabolical killer on the run.
This killer was fascinated with his victims bones. He would kill them mailiciously, and keep the bones hidden away. The usual pattern would be to drive a taxicab to the airport, pick up his victims, and then terrorize them before he murdered them.
Lincoln and his friends draw clues from the tiniest pieces of evidence, and put this crazy picture together. The surprising fact is, that this monster has been really close to Lincoln all along- and the ending has a real surprise in store for readers.

Must have for collectors!.......2000-11-13
A humerous guide for both children and adults. Gives you the history of Crazy Bones, games to play, and listings of the different characters. Needs to be updated to include most recent Bones (like Monster Bones, Dragonball Bones, and Toy Story 2 Bones) but is a good start for most people.

Specific to Cauldon, Inc........2006-11-27
This is the finest book available on Cauldon, bar none. The pricing guides are helpful, the background information facinating, and although the photographs are sometimes a little out of focus, each page features multiple images of representative wares.
Cauldon for Collectors.......2006-04-22
Quite simply the best reference work currently available on the output of Cauldon Ltd. and its predecessors and sucessors for over a century including helpful pricing guides. Because Cauldon's tableware patterns alone ran to several tens of thousands, this book could not be expected to address individually all of the company's products, but it does cover a broad enough sampling to make it the definitive work on its subject matter. Kudos to Robert Cluett for giving us this book.
Customer Reviews:
Good pieces, weak whole........2007-03-22
While it is a fast young adult read, The Bone Collector's Son didn't quite come together for me. There is a lot in play: father-son distance, cultural traditions, courage, the power of belief, a mystery to be solved, obstacles overcome. The several Chinese ghost stories were quite charming. But when the various bits come together, they don't work together. The disjointed parts don't flow together: they distract from each other. So while the book has virtues, it just isn't that good a read.
A poignant tale.......2006-08-12
I have just read the story and I loved it. It inspires me to look at adversities in life with tenacity and to move on no matter how hard the going may be.
Book Description
During the last quarter of the nineteenth century, American potters were struggling to produce quality ceramics to rival that of the English and French. Knowles, Taylor & Knowles took up the challenge, determined to produce a bone china that would be the pride of America. Highly regarded in its day, Knowles, Taylor & Knowles made Belleek Ware, Lotus Ware, and China Whiskey Jugs which are prized possessions among collectors today. Here is a book to inspire dealers and collectors alike. Valuable information concerning the identification of the various wares, the manufacturer's marks, decorative techniques, artists and the current values is included. Each phase of the company's production is illustrated in 245 color photographs.
Customer Reviews:
A nice addition to a collectors library on KTK pottery..........2000-04-01
This book is an excellent adjunct to the more commonly seenMary Frank Gaston's Encyclopedia. Kearn's book contains over 150photos of Knowles, Taylor, Knowles pottery, with a strong focus on the famous Lotus Ware (sometimes referred to as American Belleek), and Meredith and other jugs.
Kearns went straight to the source, the Ohio Ceramics Museum in East Liverpool, Ohio, for information about this pottery's wares. He gives us a history of the company and the different types of pottery it created when it ran, and tonnes of photos of the various pieces still available to the collector today. His prices do not reflect the impact that online auctions have had on the collectables market, but that is a common problem with reference works today, and should not deter you from buying this book.
