Product Description

This book is small, eloquent, and easy to understand. It is about life, success, money, and priorities, what these things are and aren't, and will continue to challenge the way most of us choose to live our lives for years.

Yet Conwell did not get readily into his life- work. He might have seemed almost a failure until he was well on toward forty, for although he kept making successes they were not permanent successes, and he did not settle himself into a definite line. He restlessly went westward to make his home, and then restlessly returned to the East. After the war was over he was a lawyer, he was a lecturer, he was an editor, he went around the world as a correspondent, he wrote books. He kept making money, and kept losing it.

Acres of Diamonds is a very inspiring story, but this edition was unacceptable. The author's name was mispelled on the cover and the title was wrong on every inside page. The printing was oddly spaced making it unpleasant to read. I had to return both copies that I ordered.

5 out of 5 stars Really good.......2007-06-09

I would highly recomend this book. The author did a real nice job and I am a big fan of his work.

This book is excellent! I think every person in America should read this book.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Little Classic.......2006-11-21

Acres of Diamonds is one of those titles that you cannot judge by its size. While small, the title is chock full of wisdom for those who aspire to make more of their lives.

Among the important points covered include:

1. Become more aware and sensitive of the opportunities that may be closer to you than you think.
2. Be careful about giving children a very large inheritance lest they fail to learn to work for their wealth.
3. Do not separate your religion from your business.
4. Know what people need, then invest yourself where you are most needed.
5. Knowing what people need will give you more knowledge of obtaining a fortune than any amount of capital can give you.

The author, Russell Conwell, served with the Union Army and also mentions his encounter with President Lincoln just before his assassination.

The book is simple and full common sense. Read and enjoy. Recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Acres of Diamonds.......2006-11-06

This book is a classic motivational story about the potential we each have inside, if we will only but cultivate it. I highly recommend this book to everyone. It is a definite must read for those wanting to achieve higher levels of success.

Book Description

Inspirational Classic

Meet a self-made man who lived a totally unselfish life, and who opened doors of opportunity for untold millions through his philosophy that "ALL GOOD THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!" He believed that each of us is placed here on earth for one main purpose--to help others.

Conwell was a minister, the founder of Temple University, and two hospitals where no one was ever turned away for lack of money. He was also a famous lecturer. In his lecture, the story is told of a man who sells his farm, to travel far and wide in search of diamonds. There is a moral to the tale Conwell gave the lecture over 6,000 times to untold numbers of people. It earned over $4,000,000 (about $150,000,000 in today's dollars.) all given to youth and education.

"ACRES OF DIAMONDS" is a spiritual book. It is not a "get-rich-quick" guide. Conwell saw that success is a spiritual idea, and is a result of spiritual principles. The 160-page book includes the lecture and biographical material. Here is the original self-motivational message, long lost, now found!

You, too, can find your fortune -- if you know where to look. Let the author point you in the right direction to find your "Acres of Diamonds." There are many opportunities for success today as in Conwell's time, if not more so, because they are found first and foremost in one's own conscience.

5 out of 5 stars Success Classic.......2006-06-26

Russell Conwell's book, "Acres of Diamonds" was developed from a speech he delivered to church congregations over 5,000 times. The proceeds he earned from this speech are reputed to have given him a fortune, which he used to found Temple University in Philadelphia.

"Acres of Diamonds" is the story of a successful farmer in India named Al Hafed. Hafed is tempted by the allure of wealth and sells his farm to search the world for diamonds. Years later he dies penniless, having not found diamonds. However, back home the man who purchased Hafed's farm accidentally discovers a huge field of diamonds on Hafed's former land.

Conwell uses this story to illustrate that success often lies close at hand, if you are willing to open your eyes and mind to opportunity. Conwell further suggests that most people are "pygmies of their possible selves," rarely achieving the potential of their innate abilities or local opportunities. Conwell also discusses his basic philosophy of business and gives several rules, or suggestions, for budding entrepreneurs:

1. The seeds of fortune are close at hand. Stick with what you know, find your niche, and don't be swayed by the allure of "greener pastures."
2. Find out what people want, and fill that need. This sounds obvious, but many entrepreneurs start with a product or service, and then try to find a market for their product or service. Conwell advises finding the market first, then developing a product or service to meet that demand.
3. Make the best possible product and provide them to a large number of people.

"Acres of Diamonds" was first published in 1921. It is still valid today, and provides valuable lessons to anyone attempting to achieve financial success.

Book Description

The 7 Motivational Greats (4CD) set consists of 4 full-length motivational classics and 3 short bonus audiobooks packaged together in a discounted, convenient, complete, and synergistic motivational set. The series focuses on the human mind and its prevalent thoughts in relation to their manifestation into circumstances (the material world) and simple, practical philosophy steps and attitudes to maximize your worth and find your financial / business success (proven successful by thousands of people for over 100 years). In addition it also develops strength and perspective in our fast paced, unnatural "civilized" world.

Together they are food for thought and explain the first steps and changes needed to find a balanced and productive life. As a Man Thinketh /2 - increases your awareness and recognition of responsibility for focusing your thoughts and accepting the results of your (mind's) life design (or lack of) and your actions. Acres of Diamonds reminds you to focus on serving people's needs and urges you to provide practical, useful service to others. The Majesty of Calmness provides perspective, aids you in challenging moments, and helps you to keep peace and faith. The bonus audiobooks are The Sayings of Confucius, When a Man Comes to Himself (by Woodrow Wilson), and The Work of Russell H. Conwell.

They are not "cheerleading" titles, but profound (yet simple and comprehensible) studies of human psychology and fundamental / common sense principles in our free and capitalistic society. They will help you to 1) see and realize the links and causes for the success, failures, pain, and happiness in life as they originate from thought and action; 2) Point out the negative and positive beliefs, traits, and habits that make people happy and successful; 3) Provide specific key points to emulate and act on to improve your happiness and success (think of a caring father, priest, sister or friend encouraging you to find your best); 4) help bring you from the "shadows" into the light; and 5) give you peace and perspective to deal serenely and calmly with almost anything that happens.

Listening to them is like planting seeds of wisdom in your psyche that slowly transform you and your life as situations and understanding occur. They provide fruits of realization, change, happiness, and success. They can help you relieve pain, fear, and know that you are free - not trapped.

1 out of 5 stars Not worth the time.......2007-01-19

I bought these cds based on other reviews and I am very disappointed with them. I will begrudingly say that there is some subject matter falls in the "OK" catagorie but most of it is tired platatude of outdated ideas. Some of the talks are so reactionary as to be offensive. This work is hardly inspiring.

5 out of 5 stars Very Good I liked them all.......2005-12-20

I enjoyed them especially Acres of Diamonds. The narrator, music and especially the information are good. Some are better for some times than others. As A Man Thinketh and Majesty of Calmness are kind of soft and reflective and Acres of Diamonds and As You Think So You Are are kind of loud, energetic, and humorous.

5 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD, DIFFERENT, IMAGINATIVE - but can take some getting used to.......2005-12-19

Ha, Ha, Ha some of these are very funny. I almost split my sides. I really enjoyed them. It's the first audiobook that I got a lot out of and really enjoyed it at the same time.

I have never written a review before, but these audiobooks are so outstanding that I really want to let people know about them and share them.

I think most people buy audiobooks for information.
To date all the audiobooks that I have bought have been straightforward so much so that
they sometimes become monotonous and boring. Even if the material is good when it keeps droning on its like my little niece playing her 1 piano note song with my retreat from the area ( turning the CD off ) or the accompanying headache following shortly thereafter.

Some of these audiobooks are very different: they are not only informative, but entertaining as well. Every audio book is narrated differently.

The As a Man Thinketh and Majesty of Calmness are pretty calm and straightforward with nice music breaks and little intensity peaks to clarify the important points.
All in all these two are mostly conventional and I do not think anyone can fault either of these for the material, narration style, music, etc. They are both quite good in themselves. I especially liked the Majesty of Calmness and use it regularly now.

The Acres of Diamonds and As a Man Thinketh 2 are much more entertaining and not always straightforward.

The Acres of Diamonds has little stories in it. The stories are of an Arab diamond seeker and an Arab guide, a professor of mineralogy who thinks he's smart, 49 ers (gold rush seekers), and others. When they come to the stories the narrator makes a character, and sometimes does it for the audience members that Dr. Conwell speaks about. I found it to be very cute and enjoyed them. This book was originally a lecture (not a book) so it makes perfect sense to make the audiobook the way they did. When most people tell stories they usually speak a little differently or emulate the people they are talking about. Dr. Conwell was a Baptist preacher and they use Gospel music in it. I found myself getting up and swinging to the music every so often. With this audiobook I got the information, entertainment, and a little exercise.

The As a Man Thinketh 2 annoyed me for a bit. If I had stopped it there I might have given it a bad review. It seemed silly, and loud, but I stuck it out because the information was good. By the end of it the audiobook I not only I liked it, but now realize that this company has taken audiobooks to another level.
When I now listen to other audiobooks they seem very flat, plain, and boring just words being "mouthed" by a "professional," monotonous, usually calm and stuffy narrator.

If anyone does not like these audiobooks I think it may be because some people simply dislike the obnoxious professor (or perhaps they are PhD's themselves of the type in audiobook and it hits too close to home) and judge the audiobooks poorly for that before they really give them all a chance. Not realizing the obnoxious professor is making a point at a deeper level than mere words. I believe the obnoxious character is actually illustrating some of the points in the material in a clever way.

That audiobook is not only informational, it's funny, and entertaining, but it is at first challenging and very different. It has a variety of characters including a stuffy, egomaniac professor, a "woman" who sounds "sexy" an example of "vice" not virtue,
a happy go lucky East Indian Professor "Dr. Swami Vivipunda", an Aussie (sounds like the Crocodile Hunter - I loved his enthusiasm - it made me feel like a happy kid again - so innocent), Tex and others.

These audiobooks use style, tone, and context, and types of characters that you sometimes come across in real life to make the material even stronger and more potent - they don't "mouth" them. If they were simply mouthed you could not laugh so hard or be so aggravated at times. The As a Man Thinketh challenges you. If you take the emotional response and listen to the material you will have a powerful "lesson." that is easy to remember. It did for me, I have become much more humble and recognized some less than ideal traits in myself thanks to the arrogant professor, and I now eat less and am more in control of myself thanks to "Melinda Melendez" the vice like character. I got the point.

I mostly agree with the other reviewers who liked them.
If you are uptight, take offense easily, don't have much humor, are very "logical" or a professor, or do not like ethnic people you may not enjoy two of these audiobooks but,
I suggest you buy this set and try them all anyway. Even if you hate the style that they use on the Acres of Diamonds and As a Man Thinketh 2 you will still have two very good audiobooks As a Man Thinketh and The Majesty of Calmness that are pretty normal and well worth the price of the set by themselves. If you find that you have acquired a taste for the other two wilder audiobooks then you will have a complete set for different needs, moods and times. You may find that the "weird" stuff grows on you. I would recommend these to my mother, my niece, and my friends. I believe in them, and they did make a difference in my life as my waist, and now humbler dealings with people prove to me.

5 out of 5 stars 5 stars all the way but not conservative and traditionally narrated.......2005-12-16

I really have to wonder about someone who could give this set a 1 star and what their intentions are. Did they actually listen to all 4 disks or did they make a snap judgment on one of them on style ignoring the content? Even if you hated all the narration, it's certainly intelligible and the content is superb. You can verify that yourself by looking at the reviews of the books individually. There is nothing wrong with the music (unless you dislike Classical, New Age, or Gospel because that's what they use) - it is different styles all appropriate to the subject. I had no problem with the tracks; they have a listing on the container that says exactly which track is which. You simply have to look and press the CD button to find it. The tempo varies from slow and relaxing (with slow and relaxing subjects) to very fast and exciting (with motivating subjects) what's wrong with that? They do move it along on some of the tracks and some of the tracks are also pretty modern and might be too much for very old or very conservative people.
On the other hand it had Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata also. I think it is pretty well balanced. This set has relaxation and motivation depending upon the disk you listen to. . I believe it is a 5 star even if only for content although the rest of it is actually pretty good also. If you are very conservative or old you might not like the As a Man Thinketh 2 (but it is really not that bad - but obviously set for younger people just don't listen to that disk use the others) other than that have no fear. It's a very good series. I would purchase it again without hesitation.

1 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money!!!!.......2005-12-13

I have worked in the entertainment business for over 20 years and this is the worst piece of work put out by a rank amateur I'v ever seen...You are better off finding ANYONE who can read aloud read you these works that are probably in the public domain...They aren't even good enough to put you to sleep because the "Narrator" is reading them with the inflection of a person who has no idea what the words flopping out of his mouth mean...The tempo is choppy, the music cheesy, and this is a total waste of compact discs...The tracks are only numbered so you cannot tell which piece of clap-trap this guy is droning on about and at least one track fades to music for no reason and comes up on another dialogue about god-knows-what....Oh, and the "narrator" has chosen a truly awful "Shakesperean" dialect for some of the tracks which is completely unfathomable...Sorry for the severity of my review, but I spent good money for Motivation and ended up with Indigestion!

The story was very inspirational and uplifting. It revealed the life of a somewhat unknown man today who founded Temple University and Temple Hospital as well as establish a church that was comparable to our present day mega-churches. It was a story of a man who had many struggles but presevered through them to perform a great service to Philadelphia and his fellow man. I would recommend this book to anyone.

1 out of 5 stars Incorrect Author Name.......2007-06-24

Prior review discribes the narrator as being difficult to understand. As another sign of quality, Acres of Diamonds was written by Russell Conwell, the founder of Temple University, not Russell Cornwell. You would think any writer, proofreader, publisher, etc. would have picked this up before packaging and selling a $40 product.

1 out of 5 stars Reader hard to understand.......2007-03-09

The reader has a strong accent and is hard to understand. The quality of this product is very poor. Also, I understood I was ordering an audio CD, but received a CD with MP3s which I could only play on my computer since I don't have an mp3 player. I know these books are very good and have great information, but this version is not the way to hear these books.

3 out of 5 stars Poor qualily.......2007-02-07

I am not very impressed with the quality of the reviews and the quality of the CD is below average.
I own all original copies of the CD.

"Acres of Diamonds," a perennial favorite, has a powerfully simple message which has helped millions of people recognize their potential for success. One of the most dynamic motivators of all time, Russell Conwell, promises that, if you will respond genuinely to the needs of humanity, you can find self-fulfillment "in your own back yard."

In "The Kingship of Self-Control," William George Jordan leads you expertly along the road to personal triumph. Challenging us to cast away those facets of ourselves which cause us to be less than what we should be, Jordan points the way to ultimate growth and happiness through self-discipline.

One of the most enlightening books ever written, "As A Man Thinketh" has been a favorite for decades. With insight and honesty, James Allen will inspire you to make your ideals become your reality. Having touched readers the world over, "As A Man Thinketh" is a book to be treasured.

Each of these classics was selected on the virtue of the timeless impact of its message. They are books to which the individual will return again and again, for the principles they set forth will be as relevant tomorrow as they were more than half a century ago.

A single reading will start you moving toward your goals. A second reading will keep you on the track until you reach those goals. And a third reading (perhaps years from now) will make you smile in recognition of the truths you were able to apply to your life.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection.......2006-06-26

Great collection of success literature. I especially enjoyed Acres of Diamonds:

GET AHEAD! BECOME WEALTHY, WELL-LIKED AND FULLFILLED

Acres of Diamonds by Russell Conwell has been universally recognized for almost 100 years as one of, if not the, most inspiring and powerful books ever written for wealth creation. Written in simple, clear, and complete terms it describes how DO-IT-NOW, DO-IT-HERE thinking will directly influence and alter your life. It provides powerful suggestions on how you may influence and better your life by ALTERING your actions and circumstances by what you think and taking common-sense yet insightful action. It also provides practical, proven methods to become wealthy. There are thousands of people who have dramatically benefited from this information. Acres of Diamonds is not an overwhelming, complex treatise of useless theories. It is a concise inspiring and imminently useful audiobook. It will provide the keys for you to change yourself in relation to yourself and external forces.

The ideas in Acres of Diamonds are tested and PROVEN.

A man in Michigan who was on the verge of bankruptcy, having lost heavily in real estate, heard "Acres of Diamonds" and began—as the lecture advises— right at home to rebuild his fortunes. Instead of giving up, he went into the same business again, fought a courageous fight and is now president of the bank and a leading financier of the town.

In Clinton, Massachusetts, a young man just out of prison on probation heard the lecture and wrote Doctor Conwell the next day asking if he thought there was any chance for him, with the stigma of prison attached to him, to make a success of life. Doctor Conwell replied in his usual practical fashion, and further told the man to stay right at home and live down the disgrace. The man acted upon the advice; became an honored member of the community and was a member of Congress for sixteen years.

A man in Ohio who has today, clear of all indebtedness, factories valued at $700,000 (1917 Dollars) was not worth a cent when he heard "Acres of Diamonds." He went from the lecture hall determined to find some diamonds right at home. His present business attests the success of his search.

The man who invented the turn-out switch system for electric cars received his "suggestion" from "Acres of Diamonds."

These are but a few of the thousands upon thousands of similar incidents. In every state in the Union and in many countries abroad are hundreds and hundreds of men and women whose lives have been directly affected by hearing "Acres of Diamonds." Such results show it to be a lecture out of the ordinary. Rarely, if ever, has any other lecture produced such practical effects in such an almost incalculable number of instances. The lecture is the outcome of Doctor Conwell''s practical view of life. He follows his own motto, "Supply a need."

Could you be making more? In a rut?

What will you do knowing the key secrets to finding control in your life, the ability to realize your dreams, obtain wealth, spiritual health, and peace with yourself?

    5 out of 5 stars THE IS SUPERB ! BUY THIS - IT'S A TRUE GIFT !.......2005-10-21

I had heard of As a Man Thinketh and decided to get it. I saw a set (7 Motivational Greats) that included As a Man Thinketh and the Acres of Diamonds and 5 others and figured for only a couple of $ more than just As a Man Thinketh if any one of the additional titles was good I couldn't lose. I am reviewing this audiobook from the set I bought.

THEY NEED MORE THAN 5 STARS FOR THIS ONE !
The content of these audiobooks is superb, the music and effects in them are right one, and most of the narration is also very good: although some of it is unusual.

SHORT REVIEW I like them all very much but, I also have played most of these titles for my friends and every one liked them and most wanted to borrow them or asked where I bought them. I think that tells you all you really need to know, but if you want the details read on.

    THE BIG REVIEW
I next listened to Acres of Diamonds by Russell Conwell. This audiobook mostly talks about taking action here and now where you are. It covers basic but often overlooked common sense truths about succeeding in your working relationships and in business. Things that made me tap my head and think what an idiot I was to not realize that. I think it is the best audiobook of all of them for business and success. It gives you specific things to do that anyone can do any where and at any time.

The narrator is pretty balanced on Acres of Diamonds being straightforward and entertaining with some humor in it but not as much as in the As a Man Thinketh 2. The music was a kind of gospel style.
The short feature on the disk tells the story of Mr. Conwell and his work and how Acres of Diamonds made many people and towns successful

The last short audiobook was The Work of Russell Conwell which, although not greatly entertaining, was very valuable in proving the concepts of Acres of Diamonds in practice.

THIS IS WELL PUT TOGETHER SET AND I AGREE THEY ARE MOTIVATIONAL GREATS.

After listening to this set I feel that audiobooks are much better than reading for titles like these (inspirational and motivational). This is especially true for sets like this that you will want to listen to again and again just pop them in when you have time. The narrator comes across like a trusted friend, not stiff and formal, and the music and sound effects really put you in the mood.

GET THIS OR THE SET. YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY.
