Customer Reviews:
ANOTHER GREAT THRILLING READ.......2007-07-14
This series just keeps on raising the bar. The book starts in high gear and never lets up. The final third of the book is just plain UNPUTDOWNABLE!!! Davis just piles on the tension and always is giving us more details about Dragons, Merlin, King Arthur and Excalibur. He very realistically adds to their Myths and makes it seem like this has been part of the Myths for all times. He is very creditable as he leads us along this fantastic journey! Adults who love the lure of Myths should give this series a try. They won't be disappointed.
Excellent Service.......2007-01-17
It took about three days for me to receive the book that I ordered from Amazon. And not only did it come in a timely fashion but it was in excellent condition. No surprises here and that's what I like to see. I would definately come back in the future, especially for the prices.
Easily the best book I have ever read........2006-06-06
Now, don't think. Do not pass go. Put this book directly into your shopping cart. The series of Dragons in our Midst is by far the best series that I have read, including the Harry Potter books(can't stand them now that I've seen six truly great books, the four in this series and the two Inheiretance books) And this is the best book in the series, by a single scale. This is definitely worth reading again and again and again. THIS BOOK AND SERIES TOTALLY OWNS!!! BUY IT!!!
The best book so far in an awesome series!.......2006-05-08
The Dragons In Our Midst series is one of the best series of bookks that ther are, and Circles of Seven is the best book so far. Dragons In Our Midst makes Harry Potter seem extremly flimsy and shallow. (Which is actually fairly true in any instance. JKR was overpaid.) Anyway, THIS IS AN AWESOME BOOK!
BUY IT!
Great!.......2006-05-05
Carrying on the series smoothly, CIRCLES OF SEVEN answers questions from the previous books and still leaves enough suspence to have readers on the edge of their seat, waiting until they get the next book in the series. Never start reading these books if you have a busy day ahead, and most certainly do NOT start them in the late evening! You'll want to finish it all, even on pain of not enough sleep.
Very enjoyable, the series continues to be a very clean, Christian oriented fantasy series that even non-religious readers may be able to enjoy wholeheartedly.

Customer Reviews:
Awesome book!.......2006-03-02
This book was an excellent read. I couldn't put it down, as with all of Jacobsen's books, I've read. I like how he writes about political issue from a perspective that is not often addressed in literature. I highly recommend any of his books to anyone who enjoys thrillers and mystery books. He does a good job of incorporating both of those styles into his writing, without making it too gory or scary. Just the right amount to keep you interested.
I'm hooked.......2005-08-03
This is the first book I have read of this author and I have already purchased another. This was great reading with a thought provoking twist. The characters developed nicely and the story was very believable. I'll be reading many more from this author.
Fast Paced, Thought Provoking.......2005-04-11
This is a fast paced story with lots of action.
Mark Taylor is an investigative reporter who is looking for a big story for the television 'sweeps' period. He begins looking into the opinion polling industry and encounters incredible corruption in the way that results are skewed to manipulate particular outcomes of events. During the course of his investigation, Taylor uncovers murder, kidnapping, and collusion on a grand scale. The plot explores the effects of the polling industry on the outcome of elections, issues, etc.
Christian characters and ideas are interwoven into the story during the course of everyday life. This is a great book for anyone who enjoys a page turner that is difficult to put down. It is also thought provoking for anyone who has ever had concerns about the rampant use of polling in today's political climate. Jacobsen does an excellent job of theorizing how manipulations could occur.
Really makes you wonder.......2003-10-27
This was my first Clay Jacobsen book, and I'll be checking out EVERYTHING he does. A very interesting look at the polls, and just how far someone will go for a popular opinion. Hats off to anyone who dares to be like Mark Taylor. There are some issues that some people may not be comfortable with. But for those people, you have to see the whole picture, and you appreciate this book all the more. When I read about Mark trying to figure out what's just going on, the words came off the pages! Thank you, Clay! Bravo!
getting better and better.......2002-10-16
Having read The Lasko Interview (Mr. Jacobsen's previous novel) I was anxious to read this one as well. I reviewed this novel for Broadman & Holman Publishers because I am a buyer for a bookstore. Jacobsen does characterization and plot very well and I was pleased to discover that he did an even better job with this novel. He weaves a Christian theme into his books without making it too obvious, which is a talent not possessed by all Christian authors. The area of polls and questionnaires is one I have long been suspicious of, because they are so easily manipulated. Jacobsen does an excellent job of giving a fictional account of just how easily this can be done and at the same time giving an enjoyably exciting story behind it. He's just released his new novel (Interview with the Devil). Can't wait to read it, too!

Customer Reviews:
Well worth your time.......2004-11-22
There are so many books on the market right now on every topic. This one seems no different. It is hard to choose which books are worth your time. I was required to read this for a Christian Discipleship class in college. It completely changed my life. I have given it to friends and family. Many of them are busy people, but I give it to them with a promise, "This is worth every second you spend on it; this will change you life."
Oscar Thompson gives you a glimpse of the heart of God towards people. It is not another "method" to seek converts. He shows you how to effectively love people.
Read this book. It is worth every bit of your time and money. Evangelism starts in the heart of God. Be a person after His own heart.
New Paradigm For Evangelism.......2000-09-29
This book is helping change our church and the way we do outreach and evangelism. The author's premise is that we cannot reach the world for Christ if we are not reaching our families, friends or inner-circles first. If there are any broken relationships or "ruptured relationships" in a christian's life, then we are not able to go and share the gospel message honestly with anyone. It is a powerful book that is very blunt and sometimes slaps you in the face with the honesty and insight of the author.
Concentric Circles of Concern.......2000-01-29
I read this book in school and I was blown away. The book made me think! It has radically changed the way I treat my family, neighbors, and those I may only meet once. This book also made me rethink ministry and do things 180 degrees differently. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn how to better deal with people, and who wants to grow in wisdom and sensitivity in the area of people skills. It will give you a passion for your life and ministry. As I teach others how to minister to people and how to tell others about Jesus, I use the principles in this book.
Concentric Circles deals with prayer and Personal Evangelism.......1998-12-09
Concentric Circles of Concern serves not only as a method of evangelism it issues a challenge to all that read it. Making evangelism a component of each relationship of our lives is truly "an assignment that you cannot finish . . . until God takes you home." Thompson's process not only shows how to improve evangelism, it shows how to improve life and the lives of others.
A Must For Those Looking Into Intercessory Prayer.......1998-09-22
If after reading this book your prayer life isn't affected you are blue and twitching on the ground, and breathing your last! Dr. Thompson does a comprehensive and Biblical job treating Intercessory Prayer interspersing each chapter with personal, practical experience. This is NOT a dry discourse, but a book filled with energy to change your life. It did mine!

like the first one, it's mediocre.......2006-01-18
In this book, more warriors are sent from earth to nayve, including jubal. Natac gains another ally, of whom is a dragon named regillix. Sirien's sister, janitha, also joins to fight. Another good but in some ways, bad book. Like the first, there are some sexuality that is described in a little too much clarity. It was boring at some parts too. Still another okay read. Recommended.
It needed better editing and cohesion as a series.......2005-05-16
The book isn't especially good, it's mediocre fantasy at best.
It looks as if the book (if not the whole series) was thrown together hastily to meet a deadline.
In the first book there was a Viking, Owen, and an Irishman, Fionn. At the end of the first book Owen died fighting the crusaders.. but in the second book there was Owen again, alive and well (until he blew himself and the bridge up later on)
Maybe they'll fix a name up somewhere in successive printings, but in any case i've never seen a technical error like that in a book before... very bad form.
Didn't like it.......2004-12-31
The whole reason why I bought this book was because of two things: 1) the comment on the front cover which said "Fans of Tolkien and Brooks will love this epic fantasy." and 2) because of the great dragon on the cover. I really couldn't read it though. I tried pushing my way through the first few chapters but I found it too tedious to read. I even wondered if this book would be better if I had started with the first book of this series or trilogy (w/e). Anyhow, this book is a bit too, I don't know...modernish?....sci-fi-ish? Another thing I didn't like about this book was the names which really emphasize my above question. Some books are better off left closed.
Oh dear............2001-10-28
Overall, World Fall did a miserable job in continuing the genious that Circle at Center began. The entire book seems to be in a hurry to get no where. Large scale events unfold far too quickly, but all the events collectively adavance the plot little. Niles moves over some things so quickly that he leaves many obvious holes in the plot. I think Nile's goal was to leave you hanging at the end, but I don't like the way he went about doing it. It came across as if he just ran out of ideas and decided to stop where he was and move on to book three. Apparently Niles was also doing some experiemting with word repetition. He wanted to know how many times he could repeat the word "facade" before the reader would chuck the book across the room. It happend somewhere around number 57 for me. The only reason that give this book 2 stars is that I have enjoyed reading other novels by Mr. Niles in the past, and it pains me so to tear this one apart. i sincerely hope that the conclusion to the trilogy will make up for the disaster of World Fall.
Excellent fantasy novel.......2001-09-05
The world is composed of seven circles with the last one known as Earth and the fourth one called Nayve, a bucolic poster world. Harmoniously co-existing with no knowledge of war in Nayve are druids, fairies, elves and other creatures. Three centuries ago, it was foretold that Nayve was going to come under attack so the druid Miradel called a dying warrior Natac from Earth so he can assemble an army and then fight a war. Although they were victorious, Miradel was killed and was sent back to the seventh circle where she had to live seven lives before she was allowed to come back to Nayve and Natac.
In this time and place, the realm of the lord of the Death threatens the circles. Karlath-Fayd, whose minions are the souls of people who died by violence, wants to extend his dominion. To that end he has under control, although they don't know it, the evil arcane dwarf Zystyl and the leader of the harpies in the sixth circle known as Overworld. Miradel and Natac team up once again with their allies, both old and new to stop the latest threat to their world.
In this second installment of the Seven Circles Trilogy, readers will become reacquainted with friends (and enemies) they met in CIRCLE AT CENTER. Douglas Niles so eloquently describes each circle readers will have a vivid visual image of each land. Fans of Tolkien and Brooks will love this epic fantasy and eagerly await the next book in this series (which can't come too soon for this reviewer).

With this book, popular epic fantasy writer Niles begins a new series, the Seven Circles trilogy. Each of the seven circles of this new world is home to a different race (the usual dwarves, trolls, goblins, centaurs, etc.), and all are ruled by the wise elven Senate at Nayve, the great city in the Circle at Center, seat of the elven College and the mystical Grove where druids and enchantresses serve the One True Goddess.
The story gets going in the first circle, when evil Delver dwarves destroy the city of Axial, ancient home of the good Seer dwarves. Fearful of rising darkness, well-meaning druidess Mirandel summons human warriors from many different times in earth's history to teach her peaceful people how to fight, but gets more than she bargained for when one of them turns out to be an insane Crusader named Sir Christopher, who is bent on razing the Circles of "infidel" Goddess-worshippers. Sir Christopher murders the Keeper of the magical Stone of Command and uses the Stone to build an enormous army of Delvers, centaurs, and others who long to overthrow the elven hierarchy.
Although Niles's characters seldom rise beyond stereotype and the climactic outcome arises thanks to a convenient (and predictable) deus ex machina, Niles's many fans are sure to forgive these flaws in favor of the detailed setting and the excitement of a brisk plot filled with derring-do. --Charlene Brusso
Book Description
With his acclaimed Watershed Trilogy from Ace--and his phenomenally successful "Dragonlance" series from TSR--Douglas Niles became one of the most promising stars of epic fantasy adventure. Starlog magazine raved that Niles "writes so well that his characters come to life after only a few sentences." Now this gifted storyteller has created a rich and complex new trilogy filled with centaurs, goblins and trolls, druids, elves, and other fantastic beings who live in a world of peace--until now...
In the realm of the Seven Circles, harmony has reigned since time immemorial. That is about to change....Disaffected members of all the races are gathering into a force that may spell the doom of the Seven Circles. Strangers to brutality and warfare, the inhabitants need a champion who can teach them to defend themselves. For this, they recruit warriors from a world where only the strong survive. A primitive world where life lasts only as long as you can fight for it...
A world called Earth.
"Absolutely nobody builds a more convincing fantasy realm than Doug Niles." --R.A. Salvatore, New York Times bestselling author.
Customer Reviews:
Clunky Prose.......2006-06-02
I did not care for Nile's style of writing. I felt like the prose was a huge distraction, and I kept "tripping" over his writing voice. It wasn't as bad as the Ill Made Mute, but just as annoying. Basically, it was not fun to read. things that usually is a staple in books I do not finish reading is noticing the writing style more than the story. I did so with this book. I will probably never read another Niles book because of it.
Mediocre at best.......2006-01-18
I have to say that this book was good, but not too good. What makes the book interesting is taking human warriors from earth and bringing them to nayve to help fight a war. Also, there are many different races to help add diversity to the book. There's even a talking dog named ulfgang! The things that I didn't like though was when belynda got raped by king christopher. Also, some of the things in the book come to quick and aren't explained as good as they should be. Also be aware of the sexuality, as it is common in the second book as well. Still, it was a good read.
Good Read.......2005-11-15
I have been an avid fan of fantasy since I was young, so of course I love watching movies and reading books about this fantastic subject. I was bored of watching television in my spare time, so I decided to take a chance on Circle at Center. I'm glad I did. This book did take some time getting used to with all the moving around, and fast paced plots, but once over that hurdle, it gets quite good. I have finished the whole series, and I believe that by far it is the best series that I have read- so far... I think it was a good blend of romance, action, lust, disgust, and a little bit of comedy. Sufficed to say, it will remain on my bookshelf for all to see and inquire about.
Never rises above a cliche.......2004-12-08
In addition to other criticisms about the book, I'd like to add that the world that Niles has created really doesn't make any sense. He has slapped to together a bunch of fantasy staples such as elves, druids, dwarves, etc. without much regard to how they arrived or fit in his world. Things are exist because he wrote it -- no internal logic is necessary.
Terry Pratchett's Discworld books make much more sense -- and we're talking about a parody where that world rests on the back of a giant space-faring turtle!
A Huge Plummet in Quality.......2004-09-20
I liked this book at first despite the sex which I think, was written in too much detail. Sex can be implied at various degrees in a story, but this was a bit too much. But still I would have still rated this book a 4 or 5. However I hated the part when the knight raped the elf queen. A sage ambassador with great magical powers. Maybe I'm too much of a softy, but I hate when the author does not respect the fate of his characters. I would rather have see the sage-ambassador die rather than the be raped, which truly disgusted me!
To quote my Enlish teacher "this was Douglas Niles' porn" (although actually he was referring to Anne Rice's "Queen of the damned but I'm sure one might get the idea). I did not personally like this book mostly because of the emotional response that it inflicted me with.
I do however recomend this book and I would be very willing to read any other of Douglas Niles' books, however never again would I read this series, however; maybe once I'm a bit more mature, I'm not sure.

The final battle for the world of Neyve has begun. Druid magic has summoned warriors of all times and nations from Earth to Neyve where they will fight side by side with elves, dwarves, dragons, and centaurs against the armies of the dead commanded by Karlath-Fayd, the Deathlord...
Customer Reviews:
a better ending than before.......2006-01-20
The last book of the seven circles trilogy is better than the first 2 books. As far as I know, there is no sexuality in this one. Also, there is an interesting twist to the ending. Zystil gets killed finally, and regillix returns to arcati to bring dragon allies to nayve. Shandira and Miradel take a visit to karlath-fayd only to be pestered by a giant gargoyle. The only thing that was bad about the book: There was numerous mispellings and typos. Also as usual, events came to fast and always weren't explained. Still, a very good book to end the series.
strong fantasy.......2003-03-08
The cosmos consists of seven circles with the seventh being Earth and the fourth being the pastoral land of Nayve where sentient species live in harmony. The Goddess Worldweaver spins a tapestry that records all events that happen on all the circles. Druids, humans, fairies, elves, centaurs, dwarves and other fey creatures work together to make Nayve a center of culture and learning. Their peace is about to be broken because Karlath Fayd, the Deathlord who resides in the fifth circle intends to conquer Nayve.
He has sent his legions of ships containing ghost warriors into the realm and the sheer number of them almost guarantees his horde a victory. General Natac leads his armies in defense of the land while the druid priestess Miradel goes to the Deathlord's realm to see if she can find a weakness to use against him in the upcoming war.
Douglas Niles has the ability to construct a fantasy realm that makes readers believe that such a place can actually exist. Unlike the previous two books in this series, THE GODDESS WORLDWEAVER consists mainly of battle scenes interspersed with a glimpse into the fifth circle. Miradel's role is small but pivotal to the story line and readers will feel very satisfied at the way Douglas Niles weaves the end to this series.

Book Description
Katie Roiphe’s stimulating work has made her one of the most talked about cultural critics of her generation. Now this bracing young writer delves deeply into one of the most layered of subjects: marriage. Drawn in part from the private memoirs, personal correspondence, and long-forgotten journals of the British literary community from 1910 to the Second World War, here are seven “marriages à la mode”—each rising to the challenge of intimate relations in more or less creative ways. Jane Wells, the wife of H.G., remained his rock, despite his decade-long relationship with Rebecca West (among others). Katherine Mansfield had an irresponsible, childlike romance with her husband, John Middleton Murry, that collapsed under the strain of real-life problems. Vera Brittain and George Gordon Catlin spent years in a “semidetached” marriage (he in America, she in England). Vanessa Bell maintained a complicated harmony with the painter Duncan Grant, whom she loved, and her husband, Clive. And her sister Virginia Woolf, herself no stranger to marital particularities, sustained a brilliant running commentary on the most intimate details of those around her.
Every chapter revolves around a crisis that occurred in each of these marriages—as serious as life-threatening illness or as seemingly innocuous as a slightly tipsy dinner table conversation—and how it was resolved…or not resolved. In these portraits, Roiphe brilliantly evokes what are, as she says, “the fluctuations and shifts in attraction, the mysteries of lasting affection, the endurance and changes in love, and the role of friendship in marriage.” The deeper mysteries at stake in all relationships.

Interesting reading.......2007-09-09
I learned a lot about these extraordinary couples that I didn't know before. The author did a lot of research to write this book and it shows in the details. So many people now think they're the first to have "uncommon arrangements" within their marriages--they might be surprised to know of the arrangements these couples had a hundred years ago!
Marriage in the 1900s.......2007-09-06
Im still reading the book. Its quite long, however the concept of the book is intersting. In the 1900s, the book examines how marriages are viewed by the male and feminine aspect. It is no different from the time we live in today, such as adultery, lies, commitment issues,etc..
What you didn't know about these writers..........2007-08-19
I was lucky enough to get an advanced reader copy of this book a few months ago to review. I really enjoyed it! I happened to be reading Enchanted April, by Elizabeth Von Arnim at the time, so that was a very happy coincidence. I had read her book before, but knew nothing about her. She is one of the artists/writers profiled in this book. There are seven sections for each "couple" or "group." And definitely do not skip the opening chapter, Marriage a La Mode, th author's brillant and helpful introduction to the book and to the times these artists and their works existed.
I really loved the section on Vanessa Bell, "Bunny" and the Bloomsbury group. Simply fascinating. Her daughter Angelica later married her biological father's lover. The complicated family groups created by these people are often bizarre, even incestuous, but they seem to have worked for them to some degree. Reading about these people and their complicated lives, mostly being lived out of a desire to be free from conventional, traditional, expected roles in their times, was truly fascinating. We "tut tut" daily over Britney, Lindsey and Paris; well, they can't hold a candle to these folks! Katherine Mansfield was much more lady-like, educated and interesting than any of them. Also read about HG Wells, his long suffering wife Jane, and his lover, young upstart journalist Rebecca West.
This book seems to be very well researched and is very well written. With what I am sure is an overwhelming amount of information available on these prolific writers and their lives, Roiphe has managed to handle the subject both delicately and thoroughly enough without letting it be too much information. Certainly, the portraits in this book are compelling enough to warrant more exploration, but she manages to whet your appetite so that you want to learn more, not only about their lives, but more importantly about their work, which was their lives, and what was so desperately important to each and every writer and artist in this book.
A great read. A definite recommendation.
Exrtraordinary People, Ordinary Dilemmas, Extravagent Solutions.......2007-07-20
Just a great deal of fun -- Roiphe examine 7 marriages, shows what works and what doesn't, tells 7 stories, draws 7 lessons. Like "How Proust Can Change Your Life" and "Flaubert's Parrot," this is literature as gossip and story. That is, literature as life. About as much fun as you can have on a bedside table or at the beach.

Book Description
"Days, months, and years were given to us by nature, but we invented the week for ourselves. There is nothing inevitable about a seven-day cycle, or about any other kind of week; it represents an arbitrary rhythm imposed on our activities, unrelated to anything in the natural order. But where the week exists—and there have been many cultures where it doesn't—it is so deeply embedded in our experience that we hardly ever question its rightness, or think of it as an artificial convention; for most of us it is a matter of 'second nature.'
