Book Description

Dr. Bill Bass, one of the world's leading forensic anthropologists, gained international attention when he built a forensic lab like no other: The Body Farm. Now, this master scientist unlocks the gates of his lab to reveal his most intriguing cases-and to revisit the Lindbergh kidnapping and murder, fifty years after the fact.

Download Description

In this memoir, Bass, a premier forensic anthropologist, recounts how a life spent studying dead bodies led to the creation of "The Anthropolgy Research Facility" (aka the Body Farm), a plot of land near the University of Tennessee Medical Center where Bass and his colleagues monitor the decomposition of human corpses in various environments. The book is structured around the 1981 creation of the Body Farm, and the early chapters focus on some of Bass's trickier cases to demonstrate his need for more information about the science of forensics. The later chapters take a closer look at how the scientific analysis of Body Farm corpses has helped Bass and other anthropologists solve some of the toughest and most bizarre cases of their distinguished careers. Though professional and conscientious when describing the medical facts of each case, Bass, writing with journalist Jefferson, proves to be a witty storyteller with a welcome sense of humor. He also does a nice job balancing accounts of death and decomposition with decidedly not-so-morbid tidbits from his personal life. Furthermore, the poignancy of how he reacts to the deaths of his first two wives reflects the compassion he feels for the dead and their surviving family members he encounters in his working life. Bass may deal with the dead, but he has a lust for life that comes across in his writing. While the grisly details may not make this a must-read for everyone, those who do pick it up might just be pleasantly surprised by how Bass brings death to life. Foreword by Patricia Cornwell

5 out of 5 stars Great read - couldn't put it down.......2007-09-09

For all you csi fans, this is a great book. Wonderful history of how it all began along with chapters of stories about real dead people. Congratulations to Dr. Bass and all his staff who have made inroads into helping the police and other entities solve crimes.

4 out of 5 stars Watch out where you step.......2007-08-24

Another great Kay Scarpetta book. Not as good as some, but better than others. Cornwell's earlier writings are her best, her later books seem to lack heart, and detail. This one is in the middle. It is a good read, but not her best one. I wish she would take writing seriously again, and find the "eye of the tiger", or whatever she needs to get herself back on track. Maybe someone is giving her bad advise, or something has distracted her. She needs to return to whatever she was doing, when she first started writing. I miss her good books, and hope she can snap out of it soon. I should have given this one a 3, but I respect her so much, I gave it a 4. This is really her last good book she has written.

5 out of 5 stars Gotta brag.......2007-07-13

I got to attend a personal tour of the Body Farm with Dr. Bass. It was an experience of a lifetime (is than an oxymoron?). Dr. Bass is the real deal. He knows his stuff and has a no-nonsense approach to his profession. It would be hard to estimate how many criminals have been removed as threats to society based on the work of Dr. Bass and his associates. He's a true pioneer.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read For Everyone!.......2007-06-08

Though some readers might be apprehensive due to the subject matter that the title insinuates, Death's Acre tells the story of the unsung heroes and an autiobiography as well. This is truely insightful to every person as Dr. Bill Bass shares stories that educate us on the people who help the deceased tell their story. The story of the author himself narrorates with humor and makes for a facinating read. It doesn't take a science buff to read this or be touched by it.

5 out of 5 stars Many cases seen on Cold Case Files.......2007-05-20

I enjoyed the personal view and he admitted his mistakes. At least two of the cases were spotlighted on A and E's Cold Case Files. His vantage point of the same cases was abfab! The technical aspects were indeed gruesome, but explained very well to someone without a background in forensic anthropology. Very quick read.

Book Description

Dr. Bill Brockton, the founder of the world-famous Body Farm, is hard at work on a troubling new case. A young man's battered body has been found in nearby Chattanooga, and it's up to the talented Dr. Brockton to assemble the pieces of the forensic puzzle. Brockton is brought into the case by the rising star of the state's mechanical examiners, Jess Carter.

Just as they're on the verge of breaking the case open, events take a terrifying turn. Brockton has re-created the Chattanooga death scene at the Body Farm, but a killer tampers with it in a shocking way: placing another corpse at the setting, confusing authorities and putting Brockton's career and life in jeopardy. Soon Brockton himself is accused of the horrific new crime, and the once-beloved professor becomes an outcast. As the net around him tightens, Brockton must use all of his forensic skills to prove his own innocence . . . before he ends up behind bars with some of the very killers he's helped to convict.

Flesh and Bone is another roller-coaster ride into the world of forensic anthropology, its twists and turns marked by drama and pathos, humor and grief, families and friends and enemies. With captivatingly real characters, plus fascinating scientific insights drawn from the case files of a living forensic legend, this astonishing novel confirms Jefferson Bass as one of our most talented authors of suspense.

4 out of 5 stars One very good book........2007-08-09

First Sentence: The chain-link gate yowled like an angry tomcat in the watery light of dawn.

Forensic anthropologist Dr. Bill Brockton is helping state medical examiner, and his burgeoning love, Jess Carter with the case of a man's body found sexually mutilated, tied to a tree, and dressed in drag. He is also dealing with the suspension of this job after a lecture on evolution upsets a student who believes in creationism. When Brockton thinks things can't get worse, he is accused and arrested for murder.

There was a lot happening in this book and Jefferson Bass tied it all together into a gripping, interesting story. There was so much I liked about this book. Brockton isn't the classic macho protagonist; he's a bit unsure of himself, hesitant about a new relationship and able to cry. That he has been given interesting supporting characters adds balance and dimension to the story. Some may not care for the character's lecture on evolution, but I found it interesting and it is relevant to the story. The description of the protagonist's experience as a murder suspect provides a different aspect than one normally gets. Add to all this great dialogue, a strong sense of place and emotional tension, and the result is one very good book.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful !!!.......2007-08-09

Jefferson Bass has done it again. He's got me hooked and I can't wait for his next book to appear. Keep'em coming Mr. Bass.
Wonderful...Wonderful...Wonderful

4 out of 5 stars Dr. Death.......2007-03-26

In their second effort, Jefferson Bass has put forth a fast paced novel again featuring Dr. Bill Brockton, forensic anthroplogist, college instructor and founder of the Body Farm. When Dr. Brockton begins to investigate the murder of an unknown male, the plot starts rolling. Assisted by Dr. Jess Carter, M.E. From Chattanooga, Brockton uncovers the victim's identity. As they dig deeper into the case, the stakes are raised and it is obvious that someone does not want the truth known. Somewhat predictable plot twist awaits the reader half way through the book, but all-in-all, a fast read.

5 out of 5 stars The Dynamic Duo is delving deeper into the realms of imagination.......2007-03-22

"Flesh and Blood" is the sequel to the writing team Jefferson Bass' first fictional work, "Carved in Bone." 'Jefferson Bass' is a pseudonym from Dr. William Bass, the famed forensic anthropologist and writer of "Death's Acre" (a non-fiction autobiography and excellent treatise on forensic anthropology) and Jon Jefferson, who worked with Dr. Bass producing "Death's Acre" and two National Geographic documentaries on the Body Farm.

"Flesh and Bone" takes up close to where its predecessor, "Carved in Bone" leaves off. Dr. Bill Brockton and his faithful GA assistant, Miranda, are setting up an experiment on the Body Farm. Their goal is to reproduce a gory murder of a young may they believe to be a hate crime against homosexuals. By reproducing the crime using a donated cadaver, they are hoping to clearly establish the time of death of a young man left hanging in a tree dressed in drag paraphenalia and brutally mutilated.

As the story goes on, Dr. Brockton and Dr. Jess Carter, the Chattanooga, TN Medical Examiner, are getting much closer. It looks like Dr. Brockton may stand a chance at love after 2 years missing his deceased wife.

Of course, not all things are going smoothly. A classroom lecture gone somewhat awry, ends up with Dr. Brockton having to defend himself against creationists, mirroring the infamous 'Scopes Monkey Trial' which happened only a few miles from Knoxville in Dayton, TN. Some would call this plotline 'unnecessary' but I think it's very timely and interesting--considering this week an East Coast teacher was fired under accusations of witchcraft--for teaching counter to the views of her principal.

But the situation decomposes much faster than the bodies--when the crime scene mockup is tampered with, Dr. Brockton is the prime suspect for murder. As the stories hurdles on, Brockton's job, family, even his life are all at stake.

"Flesh and Bone" is a fast-paced and very real look at the life of a forensic anthropologist. The only fault I can find with the book is that it's perhaps 'too real.' The commonalities between Dr. Brockton and Dr. William Bass are just too similar to be missed and in this reviewer's opinion, show some lack of imagination. Art Bohannon, the Knoxville Police Department fingerprint expert and childrens' advocate, is really Art Bohannon and names of people credited with helping the team in some way were only changed slightly--if at all.

"Carved in Bone" depicted a situation in an East TN county that was very similar to reality. "Flesh and Bone" did go a step further--taking real situations and bending them to work in the book.

In "Flesh and Bone" we look at the judicial system from the point of view of the Defense, which definitely is a twist from the noted criminalist's usual position. That showed imagination and a whole lot of research. Well done, gentlemen--I hope to see book three very soon.

New York Times bestselling author Patricia Cornwell brings back Kay Scarpetta, consulting forensic pathologist for the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit, in her grittiest and most compelling novel. In rural North Carolina, the brutal murder of eleven-year-old Emily Steiner has shaken a small town. But more disturbing are the details of the crimes, chillingly reminiscent of the handiwork of a serial killer who has eluded the unit for years. Into this volatile atmosphere comes Scarpetta's ingenious, rebellious niece Lucy, an FBI intern with a promising future in Quantico's computer engineering facility--until she is accused of a shocking security violation. While coming to terms with Lucy, Kay must conduct a grisly forensic investigation at a clandestine research facility in Tennessee known as the Body Farm. There she will find more answers to Emily Steiner's murder--and evidence that paints a picture of a crime more horrifying than she imagined . . .

Book Description

Little Emily Steiner left a church meeting late one afternoon and strolled toward home along a lakeside path; a week later, her nude body was discovered, bound in blaze-orange duct tape. Called by the North Carolina authorities, forensic pathologist Kay Scarpetta recognizes similarities to the gruesome work of a serial killer who has long eluded the FBI But as she tries to make sense of the evidence, she is left with questions that lead her to the Body Farm, a little known research facility in Tennessee where, with the help of some grisly experiments, she might discover the answer. It is Scarpetta alone who can interpret the forensic hieroglyphics that eventually reveal a solution to the case as staggering as it is horrifying. But she must also endeavor to help her niece, Lucy, who is embroiled in controversy at Quantico. And Scarpetta, too, is vulnerable, as she opens herself to the first physical and emotional bond she has felt in far too long a time. Tenacious and brilliant, tender and gentle, this is Scarpetta even more realized and poignant than we've seen her before--in a stunning achievement from a best-selling author at the peak of her powers.

1 out of 5 stars I could not finish this book..........2007-09-01

I was disappointed with "At Risk". However, I knew that it was originally presented as a magazine series, and that seemed to explain the lack of continuity and the abrupt ending.

I was intrigued by the title -- "The Body Farm" -- and reviews that claimed it to be Cornwell's best work. I was also willing to give the author another chance.

Big mistake.

This book was entirely unengaging and characters were poorly developed. The fact that I hadn't read the previous books featuring Dr. Scarpetta doesn't seem to be to blame...

I made it through the first 200 pages and was still waiting for the story to get started!! I decided that I had suffered enough before flipping 160 pages ahead to see who the killer was -- and it was completely ridiculous...and yet kind of obvious.

Don't waste your time. You've read books like this before (strong, stoic female detective solves crime while dealing with relationship issues) but done better.

I recommend Sue Grafton's ABC Mystery Series instead.

2 out of 5 stars uh.........no thank you.......2006-08-21

Honestly I only read like 3/4 of the book. This was my first attempt a a Patricia Cornwell novel and probably the last. The murder they are investigating seemed interesting from the beginning but the little side story about Lucy was simply a distraction. What bothered me the most was that so much attention was paid to conversation that I had no idea where the characters were going, where they were standing, what they were doing etc. I started to wonder if this was a sequal to another book because there were so many things that to me (not very knowledgable about forensic terms, departments etc) were left poorly explained or not explained at all. I heard so much about this author and for my [partial] first attempt I am not impressed at all.

5 out of 5 stars The Body Farm.......2006-08-02

An A-1 book in my opinion. It should have been a Bestseller. I usually read at night and this book helped the work day go faster knowing I'd be sitting down with it after dinner. Like my other favorite writers I look forward to Ms Cornwell's new projects.

5 out of 5 stars The Body Farm Review.......2006-03-21

I loved this book. It is very factual about the crime sences. I love anything to do with Crime Sence Investigations!

1 out of 5 stars Don't bother.......2006-01-26

I was expecting a gripping murder mystery... when in reality it was a glorification of the main character in dressed up language that provokes no thought. This book simply feeds simple images and personas into the readers' heads and does nothing to stimulate a thought process. I was very disappointed when I found out on pg 383 that I had been right since pg 40. The storyline is remotely creative but the answer to the "mystery" is painfully obvious through the entire book.

"

On the campus of the University of Tennessee lies a patch of ground unlike any in the world. The ""Body Farm"" is a place where human corpses are left to the elements, and every manner of decay is fully explored -- for the sake of science and the cause of justice. The scientist who created the Body Farm has broken cold cases and revolutionized forensics, and now, in this heart-stopping novel, he spins an astonishing tale inspired by his own experiences.

A woman's corpse lies hidden in a cave in the mountains of East Tennessee. Undiscovered for thirty years, her body has been transformed by the cave's chemistry into a near-perfect mummy -- one that discloses an explosive secret to renowned anthropologist Bill Brockton. Dr. Brockton has spent his career surrounded by death and decay at the Body Farm, but even he is baffled by this case unfolding in a unique environment where nothing is quite what it seems.

The surreal setting is Cooke County, a remote mountain community that's clannish, insular, and distrustful of outsiders. The heartbreaking discovery of the young woman's corpse reopens old wounds and rekindles feuds dating back decades. The county's powerful and uncooperative sheriff and his inept deputy threaten to derail Brockton's investigation altogether. So do Brockton's other nemeses: his lingering guilt over the death of his wife, and the fury of a medical examiner whom Brockton dares to oppose in court.

Carved in Bone is a richly atmospheric, superbly suspenseful, and magnificently rendered trip into the world of forensic science, the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, and the dark passageways of the human psyche. Full of vivid characters and startling twists and turns, this thrilling novel heralds the debut of a major new voice in crime fiction -- and an unforgettable work from the hand of a scientific legend.

High expectation, low satisfaction. I didn't like this book and can't understand the 4,5 stars in customers review rating. I gave it 2 stars and tried my best not to stop reading it to the end. I didn't recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars A caver who loves CSI.......2007-09-03

Reading that a woman's mummy-like body is found in a cave after 30 years is what grabbed me into buying this book. I love caving and CSI. I found this book with it's forenstics easy to read. I read it in a day and rarely read fiction. Simply, what I love is that Dr. Bill Bass is a real forensic anthropologist and it is based on his experience. The story telling makes it more enjoyable than a serious book would be. I was surprised and thrilled by the humor. I would love to see it in a movie. Especially since Hollywood these days, reverts over and over again to remakes.

5 out of 5 stars Funny, scarey, informative who-done-it.............2007-08-02

Carved in Bone is a ornately distinctive, fabulously thrilling, and a wonder voyage into the essence of forensic science. The book takes place in the center of the Appalachian Mountains, and the shadowy highways of the human mind. The authors do a fantastic job of traveling with their flamboyant characters, creating a gripping thriller full of twists and turns. This really is a magnificent read and I am hoping to pick up their other books, Death's Acre and Flesh and bone.

5 out of 5 stars Carved in Bone by Jefferson Bass.......2007-07-10

Dr. William Brockton is forensic anthropologist with the University of Tennessee and overseer of the Body Farm, made famous in Patricia Cornwell's bestselling novel of the same name. This installment of the Body Farm series finds Dr. Brockton called to Cooke County, Tennessee by Sheriff Tom Kitchings, where a woman's corpse lies mummified in a cave. When evidence of murder is revealed, Brockton, with the aid of Arthur Bohanan, criminalist with the Knoxville Police Department, embarks on his own investigation as to who killed the young woman and the unborn child she carried. Brockton soon finds himself stonewalled by the Sheriff and his deputies while someone is stealing evidence from his offices at U.T. The investigation leads Brockton and Bohanan into danger more than once, and forces Brockton to face the grief he has carried over the death of his wife two years earlier.

The name Jefferson Bass is a combination of two authors: Dr. Bill Bass, renowned forensic anthropologist with the University of Tennessee, and writer Jon Jefferson. Although Brockton is a fictional character based on Dr. Bass, Arthur Bohanan is a well-known criminalist, formerly with the Knoxville Police Department, and patented inventor of the process used to retrieve fingerprints from bodies and large objects.

Carved in Bone is a twisting mystery delivered in an informative style, with plenty of forensics relayed for those so interested. Brockton makes for an engaging character, with Southern roots and mannerisms, and his sidekick Bohanan is charming and witty. This mystery series' magical blend of storytelling with edification is sure to develop numerous fans and is one series this reviewer hopes will continue for years on end.

I have read most of Cornwell and Reichs. This rates right up there and in some instances surpasses their brilliance in creating a scene that is believable and horrifically bone chilling. Spiced up a bit with some deadly humor in spots, I highly recommend this book if you are a Cornwell or Reichs fan.

A dramatic pair of pictures opens this book: aerial shots of Fairview Gardens Farm, near Goleta, California, first in 1954, then in 1998. Once part of thousands of acres of farmland, Fairview Gardens is now entirely surrounded by tract homes, strip malls, and all the conveniences of modern suburban life. This 12.5-acre oasis exists only because Michael Ableman has steadfastly refused to let it be gobbled up by the relentless bulldozers. His story is funny, fierce, inspiring, and infuriating. His success, tempered by ample setbacks, will be of practical use to anybody seeking to preserve farmland from suburban sprawl. This powerful love story about a man and a place is especially moving because the land is not his: for most of the past 17 years, Ableman has been a tenant farmer at Fairview Gardens. Few people would put so much sweat and soul into borrowed land, yet to Ableman, ownership is irrelevant--it is the rich, beautiful land itself, and the sweet, slow food it produces for him, that matters. --Ann Lovejoy

5 out of 5 stars great book.......2007-09-19

This book was more than I expected, well written, beautiful pictures. It is the second book I have gotten by this author. Plus it came to me quickly and in perfect condition. Thanks!

5 out of 5 stars A darn good book!.......2001-02-24

I live in a desert climate, so farming is something that interests me in this desolate place I live in. I really enjoyed this book because of the success story and the farming aspect of the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes farms.

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite books!.......1999-12-31

This book was an inspiration to read. It gives me hope that urban sprawl might be contained in some small parts of the world. It's also a good guide to organic farming and living, and getting past the "hippie" stereotype that organics still have. I'd highly recommend this book.

5 out of 5 stars a very personal journey.......1999-12-06

Reading Michael Ableman's book was like stumbling upon his personal journal. I could imagine it's dirt-stained, hand-written pages - the miscellaneous seed or wind-blown earthen particles stuck deep in the creases of the binding. This book is filled with earnest, intimate tales - the everyday woes and triumphs of a gentle farmer, side-by-side with the battle stories of a true community activist. It is his journey that I found so fascinating, so inspiring. Ableman's story is compelling because he has been on the good path and done the good work for a long time - more than 17 years. From the early days of setting up the produce stand on weekends at a local farmer's market, to lamenting a killing winter frost, he draws the reader into the drama. Ableman's intensely close relationship with the land is his reward for paying close attention to its needs. His goals were clear - to grow healthy food for local people in a way that respected the land's ability to sustain itself. He learned by doing, followed his intuition, and made tough decisions based on what was right, or what he believed to be right at the moment. This book offers its readers as much "food for thought" about life, as it does about farming!

5 out of 5 stars Enlightening, thought provoking........1998-07-01

I am not related to the author (like the previous reviewer). Loved this book. Couldn't put it down. I'm a long time organic gardener but I found this California farm story fascinating. As soon as I finished it my 18 year old daughter grabbed it and it doesn't look like I'll get it back soon. Two of her friends are in line to read it. Lovely photographs, too.

    Book Description

The Elves of Lily Hill Farm is the true tale of Penny Kelly's meeting with a group of resident elves. At first doubting her own eyes and ears, in a pivotal moment she makes a deal with them to produce one-hundred tons of grapes from a mere thirteen acres of vineyards; without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides!

As a result of their deal, Penny inadvertly enters the private world of plants, insects, animals, devas, and elementals where communication among them is common and ongoing but the rules are all different. As the elves teach her a series of intense and powerful lessons, an amazing drama emerges between people and nature both struggling to survive in a world where communication between them has been lost.

Those searching for paths that lead to a deeper understanding balance in life will find that The Elves of Lily Hill Farm profoundly changes their understandings of nature, health and the earth.

"Ye are out of balance and yer standard of living is so close to a nightmare that we are sure ye must all be asleep!" - The Elves of Lily Hill Farm

5 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK TO SEE HOW WE CAN FIT WITH NATURE.......2007-06-27

THIS BOOK SHOWS HOW TO WORK WITH NATURE. NOT FIGHT IT. TAKE THE TIME TO BE ONE WITH LIFE

4 out of 5 stars Invoking the Elves.......2005-08-15

This book is wonderful because of the interaction Mrs. Kelly has with the resident Elves she encounters on her farmland. It is very inreresting to learn how these beings along with a several others she encounters while trying to grow her crop think, feel and see as opposed to the average American. There is a lot to be learned from these creatures residing on the Etheric plane as the live with out greed and only have complete love for the Earth. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because it is a little too wordy in areas that don't even relate to the Elves. Some chapters might have been done without along with there being total emphasis on the Elemental creatures instead of
Mrs. Kelly's day to day struggles. If you are interested in this please read "A Summer with the Leprechauns" by Tanis Helliwell which is my favorite elemental book so far; this book is so good I wanted to savor each page - it is very to the point and explains elementals in honest and most interesting detail. You'll especially adore it if you are Irish.

    3 out of 5 stars Elven Gardeners.......2004-11-07

This is another book about communicating with nature spirits. It's less insightful than Summer with the Leprechauns, and focused more on agriculture than general working. Many things about it remind me of the Perelandra books, which I review elsewhere.

These elves speak in vernacular, which is somewhat disconcerting, and they lead the author on an agricultural journey, teaching her how to work with nature spirits to increase plant health and productivity. In many ways this book is much like the Findhorn work as well, but less spontaneous and fresh. The focus is more on ecology and biodiversity, and in reading it I had the sense the elves were just tossed in to make the book more readable. While I didn't object to anything they "said," they sounded very human to me.

If you're really into gardening and sustainable agriculture and want to hear what "elves" say about it, get this book. Otherwise, there are others that are more highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Discovering a Universe of Intelligent, Creative Life Forms.......2001-11-21

What if we humans are not the only sentient beings in the universe, and some of those intelligent life forms are right here on Earth at this very moment? Penny Kelly addresses this question and others in her absorbing book, THE ELVES OF LILY HILL FARM. This is the story of how she met and learned to work with and trust the elves and nature spirits on her organic farm in order to succeed in her goal of harvesting 100 tons of grapes in a season -- a truly spectacular yield.

From Penny's first encounters with elves and devas (whom she sketches at the back of her book) to her discussions with vines, weeds, and various marauding animal nuisances -- the reader gains a sense of what it feels like to be in communication with the vast variety of intelligent life around us every day. Is it possible to communicate with the plants and animals around us? Absolutely. Is this communication a one-way street? Hopefully not! Kelly's tale inspired me to pay more attention to the way I interact with the intelligent life all around me -- being a bit more conscious to listen instead of just commanding orders of what I expect to occur.

I especially loved reading the comments and questions the elves posed for Penny -- including such deceptively simple queries such as, "How is it ye choose among the activities that come before ye?" The insights Penny gained as she found a way towards achieving balance in her life are valuable to us all, whether or not we are raising organic produce.

5 out of 5 stars Xeles's Review of The Elves of Lily Hill Farm.......2000-05-17

Having read the book several times, especially specific parts of the book, I must say it is the most informative where organic growing is concerned and inspires a deep need to work towards making the world a better place and restore the land. The book has very fascinating metaphysical content combined with information that is essential for improving all our lives, in general our well being. This is the BEST book I have ever read, and it is my inspiration for my current purpose in life.

Brockton is brought into the case by the rising star of the state's medical examiners, Jess Carter.

Just as they're on the verge of breaking the case open, events take a terrifying turn. Brockton has re-created the gruesome Chattanooga death scene at the Body Farm, but a killer places another corpse at the site, putting Brockton's career and even his life in jeopardy. Soon Brockton is accused of the horrific new crime, and the once-beloved professor becomes an outcast. Brockton must use all of his forensic skills to prove his own innocence...before he ends up behind bars with some of the very killers he's helped to convict.

Flesh and Bone is another roller-coaster ride into the world of forensic anthropology, raising powerful questions about the nature of justice, loyalty, honor, and evil. This astonishing novel confirms Jefferson Bass as one of our most talented authors of suspense.

      5 out of 5 stars Excellent !!.......2007-10-01

My husband and I loved this audio book. We have read book from patrica cronwell which references the body farm, so we decided to listen to the a story from the creator of the body farm. It was soo exciting, I did not want to get out of my car. Brilliantly written, easy to follow, excellent narration. I could feel Bill's beautiful heart and the ugliness of the world. The comic relief was hilarious. I was laughing so hard at times, I must have looked crazy.

I buy a lot more audio stories from this author.
