Now the hard-edged and coolheaded detective fights for truth and justice, but she still has one very human weakness-enigmatic Irish billionaire, Roarke. And when a trusted employee of Roarke Enterprises is a suspect in a double-homicide, Roarke comes to Eve for help. Reva Ewing was a former member of the Secret Service, and now a security specialist for Roarke Enterprises-until she was found standing over the dead bodies of her husband, renowned artist Blair Bissel, and her best friend. But Lieutenant Eve Dallas believes there was more to the killing than jealous rage-all of Bissel's computer files were deliberately corrupted. To Roarke, it's the computer attack that poses the real threat. He and Reva have been under a code-red government contract to develop a program that would shield against techno-terrorists. But this deadly new breed of hackers isn't afraid to kill to protect their secret-and it's up to Lieutenant Eve Dallas to shut them down before the nightmare can spread to the whole country."

This continues the story of Eve, Roarke, Peabody, McNab, Mavis et al. along with the usual rip-roaring mystery for "Roarke's Cop" to solve. Great stuff!!!

5 out of 5 stars I simply loved it!.......2007-05-08

I just love the "In Death" series by Robb, but what I loved more, in this installment was the underlying tension between Eve and Roarke. Most who love the series, and for those who have yet to become hooked, know that Eve and Roarke have a love so deep and pure, that at times we get swallowed up in their story. However, while I found the plot to be the normal "Eve's going to get the bad guys", and the normal appearance of those characters we love to love (Mavis, Summerset, Galahad, Leondardo, Peabody, Feeney, McNabb, Whitney and Tibble), it was learning about Eve and Roarke's pasts that propel us to want more.

Eve is trying to solve the mystery behind who killed Roarke's trusted assistant, Karo's son-in-law. Karo's daughter, Reva Ewing is married to an artist, Blair Bissell who is discovered stabbed to death in bed with Reva's friend, Felicity Cade. Roarke believes that Reva did not kill them, although she is found at the scene of the crime. Reva afterall has taken a bullet for the president (an ex-secret service agent) and is one of Roarke's most trusted employees. As the plot unravels, Eve finds that not only could Roarke's future (he owns a high tech security company, like he owns most of the world) be in danger, but the world at large. She is thrust into a world of techno terrorist, worm viruses, spies (AKA spooks), covert missions, and computer programs (Code Red)that could make someone a fortune. While solving the highly unusual murder, which of course leads to others, Eve learns how her past is linked to Roarke's, and they soon find themselves ultimately "divided" about what Roarke should do. What I found to be most compelling was the sacrifices each ultimately has to make to make the other happy. I loved it, and although at time there is a lot of smoke and mirrors, you eventually are happy with the outcome.

Book Description

On May 4, 1886, a bomb exploded at a Chicago labor rally, wounding dozens of policemen, seven of whom eventually died. A wave of mass hysteria swept the country, leading to a sensational trial, that culminated in four controversial executions, and dealt a blow to the labor movement from which it would take decades to recover. Historian James Green recounts the rise of the first great labor movement in the wake of the Civil War and brings to life an epic twenty-year struggle for the eight-hour workday.

Blending a gripping narrative, outsized characters and a panoramic portrait of a major social movement, Death in the Haymarket is an important addition to the history of American capitalism and a moving story about the class tensions at the heart of Gilded Age America.

5 out of 5 stars Please, someone make a movie of this book.......2007-08-01

It would be hard to find a more clear example of the importance of class conflict in American history than this book. The irony is that those unfamiliar with this concept are unlikely to read Death in the Haymarket, but they ought to. The book's narrative accelerates from the opening mise en scene to a dramatic recounting of the trial and aftermath of the seven men indicted more for their sentiments than their actions. One can almost hear Albert Parson's defiant rejection of a clemency that could have spared him from the gallows. Told in a fluid manner and an eye for detail that will make this the definitive narrative of the Haymarket tragedy.

5 out of 5 stars Well Written and Accessible History Lesson.......2007-06-09

I've lived in and around Chicago my entire life and slowly I've been trying to educate myself about the important events in the city's history. To be honest, the Haymarket has intimidated me as a subject for years because it seemed to involve so many unknowns. But, when I saw this book, I finally decided to take the plunge. While Mr. Green acknowledges the unknowns and the controversies, he offers a coherent narrative, so often missing in works about historical events, that makes the event less daunting than I expected it to be. If anything, I am more curious about this event and the topic of Chicago in the late 1800's than I was before. The issues at hand are clearly stated as events build toward the riot itself and the aftermath, including repercussions to this day, are laid out in detail. It is as if this was a work of well formulated fiction rather than the narrative history of the turning point in labor history.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting history lesson.......2007-03-15

Author James Green is a professor of history at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. He grew up outside Chicago.

This book is especially important in light of recent encroachments on the rights of citizens. What happened in Haymaket Square on May 4, 1886? I would wager that many Americans do not know. After striking workers had been killed by private security guards the day before (trying to get an 8-hour work day, at that time most workers worked ten-hour days), a labor rally had included especially outraged speeches by labor leaders August Spies and Albert Parsons, among others.

During a march after the rally, police formed ranks six deep and charged menacingly towards the crowd, when a bomb exploded in the ranks of the police, killing seven, and injuring many more. Shots rang out, and those still left at the rally (it had begun to rain, and only around 500 people were left listening to the last speaker) fled in confusion. Police shot indiscriminately into the crowd, probably wounding some of their own. Hundreds of arrests and searches followed.

The speakers at the rally and well-known labor leaders August Spies and Albert Parsons were tried for murder along with "anarchists" Louis Lingg (the only one who had ever made a bomb, though it could not be proved that one of his bombs was used that night), Adolph Fischer, George Engel, Sam Fielden, Oscar Neebe, and Michael Schwab. After a long and contentious trial and appeals, Governor Oglesby upheld the death sentences of Parsons, Spies, Fisher and Engel; and commuted the sentences of Fielden and Schwab to life in prison. Louis Lingg had committed suicide while in prison a few hours before.

Was there evidence of a conspiracy? Did these men deserve to die? Or were they killed for simply speaking out against the murder of workers?

This is a well-written account of the events in the years leading up to this rally, with an epilogue outlining the labor movement and the perceptions of the Haymarket martyrs in the years up to the present day. Green brings the characters involved to life, and uses illustrations, maps, writings, and transcripts of speeches to great effect.

Armchair Interviews says: This would be an excellent selection for a book club discussion.

5 out of 5 stars A very sobering account of the labor battles in early Industrial America.......2007-03-10

It is nice to see this book will soon be out in paperback making it available to a broader audience, because it is a much needed account of the early days of the labor movement in America. James Green has done a remarkable job of building the events that surrounded the notorious Haymarket bombing of 1886 by exploring the lives of the eight men who stood accused for inspiring the incident. He starts with the explosive incident, and then digs back into the archive of union organization in Chicago and the attempts to form a national labor union. While most of the figures were foreign born, one figure, Albert Parsons, hailed from Texas and became the most charismatic figure of the Chicago Eight.

Green shows how the media, police and state militia were predominantly held under the influence of the industrialists, who felt it their god-given right to set the rules for the market economy at the time. While economic giants like McCormick and Pullman attempted to create more ameniable workplaces, even they refused to negotiate with unions, preferring instead to hire scabs and use the Pinkerton Agency to break strikes. The early socialist movement preferred to negotiate with the industrialists, knowing it was a long term process to get better pay and working conditions, but the anarchists felt that stronger resistance was necessary and labor leaders like Parsons and Spies became the spokesmen for the growing anarchist movement in America.

The book chronicles the events that led up to the Haymarket bombing, illustrating the many attempts of the industrialists and indeed the city to quash the labor movements. While the mayor of Chicago, Carter Harrison, was sympathetic to the socialists, and relied heavily on their political organization, he was also cognizant of the stronghold the industrialists had on the city. One particular figure, Marshall Field, did more than anyone to harness the forces the city to defeat the unions, but nevertheless the unions flourished thanks in large part to the steady flow of European immigrants.

Green connects the labor movement in America to that in Europe and how the two fed off each other, noting the strong influence of Marx and Bakunin on American labor leaders. It was this fear of foreign influence that the media used to help sway public opinion in favor of the industrialists, despite their well noted abuses of power.

Whether you agree with the tactics of the anarchists or not, you will be enlightened by the depth of understanding that James Green demonstrates in this book. Most important is how Green links the events of 1886 with the ongoing labor struggle in the new age of globalization as industrialists take advantage of cheap labor much in the way they did 120 years ago, using every hook and crook to break labor organizations. He shows how the Chicago Eight became iconic figures in the international labor movement as a result of a bogus trial. Four were executed and one died in jail, who also faced execution. It is a very sobering account of the labor battles in early industrial America.

4 out of 5 stars The first labor movement and a sham trial........2007-01-25

After having lived in Chicago for the better part of twenty years, it is amazing that little is known of the Haymarket here. It is also a shame. Of those put on tial for the murder of the three policeman, perhaps one was guilty. The rest spoke out about the grave injustices of the industrial system. What they got as a reward was the hangman's noose. What the judicial system proved was that people who spoke out but did not engage in violence were met with a violent end by a judicial system that defended the status quo.

Green does a great job of detailing the beginnings of the industrial system here in Chicago. He is perhaps a little lengthy in this respect but he shows the growth of this vibrant city. He also shows the underlying decay and how it affected the city's less affluent. On top of this system were the fat cats led by the McCormick brothers and Pullman. They were also defended by the Chicago Tribune. Below this social status were immigrant communities being exploited for their labor. When a German immigrant named Spies and a Texan named Parsons spoke out on this system, they became targets of the upper class. When the tragedy of the Haymarket happened, the judicial system blamed the speakers and not the bomb thrower. The system engaged in judicial murder.

This is a fine book. The only issue I have on it is the lengthy introduction to the cast of characters. However, the author puts alot of detail in his writing. The reader will understand why the Haymarket tragedy came about.

Book Description

Novak investigates a belief called the Binary Soul Doctrine (BSD) which states simply that humans possess two souls which split at death, the conscious going on to reincarnate again and again, while the unconscious ends up in a type of limbo judging itself for all eternity.

He goes on to explain that long ago the BSD was the primary belief of a single world religion, which since has been broken into more and more fragments. However, he claims that twentieth-century findings, including the work of Freud and Jung, as well as findings of modern neuroscience and Near-Death research, has marked a resurgence of belief in the veracity of the BSD.

Novak argues—just as those long ago did—that it is essential for humans to integrate these two souls together before death to avoid the nightmare of being split in two at death. He even offers a few steps to help readers start the process of integration.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting to say the least.......2007-06-06

I highly recommend this book. I found it to be very thought provoking, very. I don't necessarily buy everything the author is selling, but overall, without a doubt, I was very impressed with it if for no other reason that to open my mind to new ways of contemplating death and what it means.

1 out of 5 stars Great book ... until the last few pages.......2006-08-14

This a fascinating book that argues quite convincingly the existence of a "dual soul" theory to explain the different claims about the afterlife. It attempts to unite both those who believe (or through an NDE actually experienced) a Heaven/Hell afterlife with those who believe in reincarnation. Novak argues that the human mind fragments at death, with the objective conscious mind going on to reincarnate, while the subjective unconscious mind with its memories, conscience and self-judgment experiences a Heaven or Hell scenario. He offers compelling evidence from traditional religious texts and modern NDE accounts, wile putting them in the context of current scholarship on the right-left brain dichotomy.

I was with him for the entire intellectual journey, until the last few chapters, where he takes this fascinating theory and makes a leap too far based on his own personal religious convictions. Novak argues that the only way for the human soul to achieve true peace and fulfillment is for the two halves of consciousness to be reunited after death. That sounds perfectly reasonable. And then Novak leaves behind his analytical hat and becomes an evangelist -- literally. The final pages of the book become a rather tortured effort to convince the reader that this reunification of the soul can only happen through accepting Jesus Christ, whose death and resurrection reunited the binary souls for us. All you have to do is believe in Jesus, and the spiritual work of reuniting your own inner dualities is no longer necessary.

As a Muslim and a Sufi mystic, I had to smile. As Novak acknowledges, all of the world's spiritual traditions contain the idea that there are several layers of souls and dualities within the human condition, and that the goal of spiritual life is to reunite them. I have learned this from Sufi teachings about the Ruh (spirit) and Nafs (ego) and and have found similiar ideas in Taoism, Jewish Kabbalah, Buddhism and other mystical paths. The methods each of these traditions have developed rely on individual spiritual work and progress on the path. Unfortunately for Novak, these tried and true methods that have helped human beings transcend duality are too "uncertain." So he decides, based on nothing except his own personal conviction, that believing in Christ is a shortcut to healing the mind rift at death, removing the need to do the spiritual work that these "Old Path" traditions require.

For those of us who value human free will and the joy of the personal journey to God, the idea that we should just believe and let "Jesus do the big lifting" is not only erroneous, but it is dangerously self-deceptive. This delusion of vicarious atonement removes individual responsibility for the spiritual journey, which is the central purpose of life. Novak does such a wonderful job of explaining the ancient mystical truth that the human soul is bifurcated and must be reunited, it is a tragedy that he then tells his readers to skip the hard work of spiritual discipline because he believes someone else already did the work for everyone. I feel as if Novak brought his readers to the verge of truth, only to hoodwink them at the last minute. They see the destination, and then are told they don't need to walk to get there. This delusion of vicarious atonement leads to a loss of personal moral responsibility and causes people to take the spiritual life for granted. It is a cruel joke, and I am saddened that a man of such great intellect and passion can't see that his rejection of the very ancient wisdom he uses to buttress his theory dooms his efforts to help humanity at the end. Novak helps people see that they need to overcome their inner duality and achieve unity, and then tells them they don't need to bother to actually do it, because its already been done for them by someone else. If he is wrong, and my heart tells me he is deeply wrong, he has misled his readers and cursed them to spiritual stagnation. His conclusion covers up what he has himself discovered about the purpose of the human condition -- to take one step at a time toward the Infinite, which is One and beyond duality.

Thank you Mr. Novak for showing how the Binary Soul Doctrine is an ancient belief in the human condition. The Sufis, the Taoists and all other mystics new this already. Now if you'll excuse us, those of us "Old Path" followers who believe in individual responsibility and choice will put our knowledge into action through spiritual practice, while the delusional wait for someone else to do the work for them.

3 out of 5 stars A pleasant read, but not a plausible theory.......2005-09-25

It happens only rarely that a reviewer finds a book very interesting, original and well written and at the same time feels that it is built around a major fallacy. This is what happened to me while reading The Lost Secret of Death by Peter Novak, a former counselor. The author has formulated an extremely original theory based on a wide range of sources - varying from religious traditions from Antiquity and exotic myths, to esoteric doctrines, neuropsychological studies, psychoanalysis, and last but not least data about Near-Death Experiences, Out of the Body Experiences, apparitions and memories of previous lives. According to Novak we are made of two clearly distinguishable components: an emotional and normally subconscious part or soul and a conscious, rational spirit. Not only would these two parts be abe to function separately to a certain extent, for instance in cases of multiple personality or split-brain experiments, but after death they would also be literally separated from each other! Soul and spirit would go their separate ways, each with its own subjective awareness. The soul would lose its rational abilities and usually end up in an overwhelming hereafter of love and connectedness, roughly corresponding to the phase of Light in NDEs, while the spirit enters a world of pure consciousness without memory or perception, and may reincarnate from that state. According to Novak, this theory, termed the Binary Soul Doctrine (BSD), would be able to reconcile all kinds of apparently contradictory experiences and visions concerning a life after death. Apart from NDEs and past life therapy these also include stories about lost souls eternally trapped in emotional obessions after they have lost their rationality in the division. Novak shows that his theory probably matches old traditions and he even speculates about a primary religion from a long lost age, which would be related to pyramid-like temples.
All this being said, I must confess I have seldom stumbled upon a theory as strange as Novak's BSD. For instance, the tunnel (or dark phase) and the light that NDE-ers may encounter would in Novak's view refer to a partial division. The author stresses a few exceptional reports of people who are convinced that such a process really took place during their Near-Death Experience, and explains the fact that the large majority does not mention it all as the result of a powerful illusion.
After the temporary division during a NDE the two mental components would get integrated more than before. Novak compares this process with the after-effect (retraction) of stretching a rubber band. The author believes this phenomenon explain the spiritual transformation many experience after an NDE.
About reincarnation Novak claims that only people who are highly `integrated' psychologically would be able to spontaneously recall their previous lives. Memories would only reside in the soul and the spirit must remain sufficiently in touch with the soul in order to have access to them. In reality, some children from the studies by Ian Stevenson and his associates turn out to have been hot-tempered drunkards, drug addicts or womanizers. Not exactly the archetype of psychological integration I might say.
Novak repeats time and again that only his BSD would be able to explain all data, whereas in my opinion there is no inherent contradiction between concepts such as spiritual worlds, apparitions of the dead, and reincarnation.
Finally, Novak also entertains a bizarre theory about Jesus Christ. According to the author it is essential to maximize the unity between soul and spirit during an earthly life, because otherwise they will certainly be divided after death. However, Jesus of Nazareth would have added an alternative to this, because a mental division could also be prevented through believing in Jesus. An original but extremely implausible attempt to reconcile BSD with Christianity.
Peter Novak is a name to be reckoned with by now. If you want to stay informed about theoretical developments in the field of survival after death, it is certainly worthwile to buy this pleasantly readable book.

5 out of 5 stars Food For Thought.......2005-07-10

Novak has constructed a captivating book which seeks to explain n.d.e., the afterlife, o.b.e., past life regression and concepts from religions about the after-life intothe binary soul doctrine based on the difference between soul and spirit which the author links to the differences in the right brain and left brain. Novak believes it is of vital importance we become whole persons as Jung suggested and integrate the different aspects of our being-lest they become split apart in the afterlife. He provides different reasons for why we have a "binary soul" and different methods for integrating the two souls into one.
This is a noble effort on the part of the author to synthesize a lot of seemingly conflicting material about the afterlife into a coherent whole. You may not agree with the author but I think he has done a virtuous job here of making sense of different concepts about the afterlife, o.b.e. past life regression and n.d.e.s-under the notion of binary soul doctrine. Whether you are interested in death and dying books, psychic phenomena, poltergeists, n.d.e. etc this book is enjoyable and informative reading In addition,if you are a professional who deals with death and dying this book may be a good starting point for understanding the afterlife- as there are many narratives about out of body experiences, near death experiences, past life regression, poltergeists, ghosts etc.

2 out of 5 stars Scan this at the bookstore before buying it.......2004-08-28

This book was probably the biggest reading disappointment I have had in the last five years of reading. True, there is a lot of interesting material presented on the Binary Soul Doctrine. However, I found the author's subsequent logic and conclusions so suspect at times that I ended up doubting the veracity of his initial material on BSD.

The material on near-death and out-of-body experiences, past-life regression and ghosts, while interesting and perhaps relevant to the BSD, in no way invalidates other non-BSD theories regarding their origination or nature of their behavior. For example, the author emphasizes the aimless meanderings and seemingly pointless activities of apparitions from certain reported cases for the purpose of supporting the BSD. However, this assertion ignores the implication that can be drawn from the numerous cases where apparitions appear to be completely engaged in both their intellect and emotions.

The most disappointing aspect of this book was the way in the which the author diligently, but with little supporting evidence or reasoning, shoe-horns a conclusion based on the binary soul doctrine into an affirmation of the Judeo-Christian faith. Using some of the weirdest, twisted reasoning I've ever encountered, the author asserts that, while Jesus did not really die for our sins, he did take out a really big loan from the cosmic bank account to cover everyone's "karmic" debt. And, so, you see, we all end up "owing" him in the end anyway. If that's the case, then, the next question should probably be, "Who the hell gave him permission to do that?" If your sincere answer is "God", then you may like this book.

However, if you are a person interested in the phenomenon of the potential survival of the human consciousness but do not crave the affirmation (or denial) of any particular religious belief, then you might want to scan this book before buying it.

Finally, this book claims to provide information on developing a "self" that won't disintegrate at death. A worthy idea but don't expect to find much useful here on that topic.

Eve and Roarke must infiltrate an extraordinarily secretive government agency to expose the corruption at its core, before the virus spreads from one office to a corporation to the entire country.

5 out of 5 stars J.D. Robb Concept is Brilliant, Thank you Nora!.......2007-02-11

I'm a huge Nora Robert's fan. Here JD Robb series with its futuristic crime drama story line is a breath of fresh air. Why o why can't TV executives bring this storyline and characters to a weekly series. The only bummer is that I had to buy these collections on cassette tape - I would have preferred cd. Great character!

Book Description

In THE DEATH OF FREE SPEECH, radio talk-show host and TV commentator John Ziegler examines how the news media has created arbitrary, biased, and illogical rules for determining what can and cannot be said in the public arena. He details how in almost every major case of "speech and punishment" in modern America, the guilty verdict was wrong and unjust.

From incidents involving Jimmy "the Greek," Trent Lott, and Fuzzy Zoeller to Rush Limbaugh, John Rocker, and Jocelyn Elders, he blows apart the conventional wisdom that led to these public figures being unfairly penalized for expressing their constitutionally protected opinions and explains why others have been spared despite making similar statements. Through his own experiences of being fired for things he has said on-air, as well as never-before-revealed intereactions with others who found themselves the target of the self-appointed "thought police" in the news media, Ziegler takes an in-depth look at the issues that surround these controversies. Ziegler also looks at the increasing corporate conflicts and legal restrictions being imposed on free speech, particularly when it comes to political speech, which came to the forefront of the 2004 election campaign in the battle over the candidates' Vietnam War records. He scathingly obliterates the news media's pathetic handling of that issue and describes how it affected the election itself. An he exposes how restrictions on free speech have created a media matrix that makes it impossible for the truth to ever be known by most Americans.

THE DEATH OF FREE SPEECH is an objective, credible, provocative, and entertaining look at one of the most important and underreported realities in American society. No one is in better position to tell this story than John Ziegler as he warns that this most cherished constitutional right is in grave jeopardy.

5 out of 5 stars John Ziegler rocks!.......2007-07-09

John Ziegler speaks what's on his mind -- and for many others who are too PC to say it!! As Dr. Seuss said: "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and whose who matter don't mind!"

John is a mighty force and needs to be heard loud and clear... Because what we do not fix NOW will be left to fix LATER -- and it's going to be even worse THEN...

5 out of 5 stars ***A Definite Must Read***.......2006-05-31

A swift, enlightening and very enjoyable read for anyone who cherishes free speech by a brilliant author with a quick wit and amazing knowledge and insight. John Ziegler is arguably one of the top lightening bolts in talk radio today. His show is a must-listen and his book is a must read. Highly recommended. Will be watching for his next one!

5 out of 5 stars One of the most important books of our times.......2006-05-23

THE DEATH OF FREE SPEECH: HOW OUR BROKEN NATIONAL DIALOGUE HAS KILLED THE TRUTH AND DIVIDED AMERICA comes from a radio talk-show host and TV commentator who considers how the news media has created biased, illogical rules for determining the framework of free speech itself. This is no individual's opinion: Ziegler uses high-profile incidents from modern media reporting to confront conventional wisdom and adds his own experience of being fired numerous times for his on-air comments. It's his background in the industry which allows a particularly insightful seasoned examination an outside researcher couldn't achieve, making DEATH OF FREE SPEECH one of the most important books of our times.

1 out of 5 stars Luckily I didnt pay for my copy.......2006-04-07

John Ziegler is a political commentator who is currently based in Southern California - and if anything, he is consistent. His book is as poor as his radio show - both reflect his poor debating skills and disorganized persona. Through most of the book Ziegler is confused, is simly wrong on several counts. I have no doubt that he will soon be fired from his job as KFI if he keeps treating his guests poorly.

I was forced to read this book as part of a project - and luckily didnt have to pay. Consider this your warning and dont read this trash.

5 out of 5 stars READ THIS BOOK!!! America's future may depend on it!.......2006-01-07

I've lived in Southern California my whole life and oddly enough, the first time I heard John Ziegler wasn't on the radio, but rather over my home telephone when he called to request that my mom be a guest on his program. I listened that night on KFI-640 as he grilled my mother, Judy Ahrens, over her vote to not allow cross-dressing teachers or students in public schools because he thought it broke the law. My mom disliked him for his aggressive interview style and refused to listen for months, but I was immediately hooked (and my mom is now). I decided to order the book (through his website www.johnziegler.com) and finished it in one week. Ziegler is the most honest and quick-witted radio broadcaster I've heard to date. He makes a strong and depressing argument for why our nation's dialogue is broken, taking equal shots at liberals (Clinton) and conservatives (Hannity). He draws examples from speech double-standards he has witnessed in the world of sports (golf & football), TV commentary shows (Larry King), music (Dixie Chicks), entertainers (Whoopi Goldberg), and political commercials (Swift Boat Vets). He often jokes on his radio show that "we broadcast every day as if it could be our last, because it often has been." I hope this book is not his last because his passion and knowledge of the issue will be a needed voice if those of us who want to protect free speech ever hope to survive.

4 out of 5 stars good book to READ.......2005-12-21

I listened to the audio & realize I must read Clare Francis books. As this book rambled about, I became bored & almost quit it, but the last chapters are so twisting & compelling, that I am very glad I finished the audio. From now on I will read her books rather than listen. Never think you have figured this one out. The ending is a big surprise.
