Customer Reviews:
Where's the beef???.......2007-08-03
I am a lover of Griffin and have begun to re-read most of the previously read books. Really liked this book the first time through but now I'm wondering why.
There is absolutely no story here. What we have is a 300+ page back-story of various and sundry people, some from previous Corps novels, some new. These are great, fun people to meet.
But like the Wendy's commercial of a few years back, "Where's the story???" The story in Book 1, "Semper Fi", was of the China Marine Ken McCoy being caught up and overcoming circumstances. The story in Book 2, "Call To Arms", was of Ken McCoy overcoming more obstacles and Pick Pickering learning to fly and chasing the Ice Princess. In this book (#3), NOTHING HAPPENS!
Series Review.......2006-05-07
Let me be up front about this series - if you are looking for combat action then go elsewhere. If you are looking for a classical (beginning, middle, conclusion) writing style then go elsewhere. This series is a chronicle of what life was like behind the scenes for both the lowly and the mighty. Griffin uses a core group of mostly likable characters (adding as needed) and a smattering of historical characters to explore the behind the scenes politics, heroism, pettiness, and foibles of various historical figures and brings to light many little known historical facts. If this is your cup of tea, well then nobody does it better than Griffin - warning, this series is addicting.
Two notes:
In my opinion this series really must be read in proper order.
Without giving away anything I hate the way Griffon chose to conclude the series which is why I'm giving this 3 stars instead of 5.
A first-rate military book!.......2006-04-04
I really enjoy Griffin's stories about the Marine Corps during the Second World War. This book covers the time from the bombing of Pearl Harbour on December 7, 1941 to the battle of Guadalcanal in August of 1942. Griffin humanizes his characters while not being shy to show personal human courage and sacrifice as well as crushing defeats suffered by the US during the initial stages of the War in the Pacific. I am also getting to know his returning characters like Flem Pickering, his son and Killer McCoy (although we don't see much of him in this book). This is a compelling novel that just kept me turning pages. I can't wait to read more of Griffin's War and his Marine Corps.
Great Historical Fiction.......2005-08-06
W.E.B. Griffin is a great writer of the historical fiction. He is able to weave historical facts with a little bit of fiction and keep the reader's interest with a great story. The whole Corps series from before WWII on in to the Korean War are connected so well that you could sit and read the whole series back to back in one sitting if you had the time.
If you missed The Big One (WWII).......2004-05-25
This is the third installment of Griffin's epic about the Marine Corps in World War II. It begins with the attack on Pearl Harbor and ends with the landing on Guadalcanal. It's the usual Griffin fare.
It's an absolute must for those who, like my husband, feel cheated because they missed out on WWII (he was too young).

Fantastic Flotilla.......2004-06-03
In the tradition of Thieves' World, The Fleet: Counter Attack assembles a collection of stories from some of sci-fi's top names, each revolving around a shared universe featuring Us Against Them. The bulk of the stories are classic military sci-fi, with soldiers taking on vicious aliens. Very good stuff, and each story is well-written. As shared universe anthologies go, this one ranks up there with the best Thieves' World collection.
The only let-down comes from Piers Anthony. His story "Soft Like a Woman" is well-done, with just the right amount of action and dramatic tension. However, Anthony reveals his on-going obsession with perceived chauvinism. His main character is insulted, degraded, and ignored because she is a woman, and she complains that her gender is keeping her from being taken seriously in the Fleet. The only problem is that several other stories in the book featured women in prominent, "masculine" roles: combat platoon leader (Christopher Stasheff), pilot (Janny Wurts), commander (Jody Lynn Nye), to name just a few. Anthony's political tirade mars an otherwise excellent story.

Book Description
"For substance, flip to the BBC."--The Wall Street Journal
While the war on terrorism spearheaded by the U.S. and Britain after September 11 has the support of virtually every country around the world, a wide variety of views have emerged about past causes as well as current actions and future directions.
The BBC news service, with journalists stationed around the globe who are experts on their regions, is uniquely positioned to report on these world-altering events, providing both news and analysis from a larger and sometimes alternative point of view than that of the mainstream American media. As The New York Times reported, "...it helps to know, without sugar-coating, what the rest of the world is thinking. BBC World News is the best of the foreign-based English language news services, with a wider scope and blunter attitude than American networks and cable channels." Similarly, Vanity Fair noted, "the timorousness of the American press has provided a marked contrast to the more robust debate abroad."
The BBC Reports takes on the tough topics facing America around the world, with chapters on George Bush and America in the face of war, the tragedy of war and famine in Afghanistan, the dilemma and motives of President Musharraf of Pakistan, the effect of September 11 on the global economy, the connection between September 11 and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and more. It's an unflinching look from a point of view that will be eye-opening for most Americans.

Moving reports.......2002-02-21
The BBC Reports is a stunning collection of essays written by some of the foremost journalists in the world who have traversed the globe from hot spot to hot spot. The book is insightful, written with the clarity that years of accumulative experience can yield. There are fifteen different authors sharing their opinions on diverse topics related to 9/11. Everything from the actual event to the aftermath and all the repercussions are discussed. The topics included deal with the world economy, the limelight cast on various politicians from around the world and of course the effect on the USA and it's relationships with the rest of the planet. Since each chapter is an individual essay it is easy to go through this book quickly. One of the many interesting chapters is the final chapter written by Alan Little(a correspondent who reported on the collapse of Communist rule in Eastern Europe) who shares his views on the New World Order that may result from the seismographic events of 9/11.The perspectives are as varied as the topics covered. It is hard to pick a particular writer or expert but suffice to say that each contributes based on their expertise, analyzing the events based upon their years of experience in the field as reporters who have witnessed the major events of our times firsthand. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in one of the major events of this generation and what it quite possibly means for the future.
My review of the book. I am featured in the book........2002-02-14
I was a surviving victim of the World Trade Center attack. I managed to escape minutes before the first building fell. Relatives and friends all across the world contacted my home that day to see if I was ok. I sent an email out that night o everyone of my well being and the events that I witnessed. Someone sent a copy of my email to the BBC. The BBC then contacted me for an interview. Weeks later this book, as well as the UK version "The Day That Shook The World" was written.
I read the book several times and it was written very well.

An Endless Dance in Three-Four Time.......2007-07-23
Adapted from the movie sequel to the Gundam Wing TV series, TOKYOPOP's now-defunct manga version of Endless Waltz was written and illustrated by Koichi Tokita. For those that don't know, or don't remember, the year is After Colony 196: after almost a year of bloody war, the Gundam pilots-five young but highly-trained soldiers-have brought forth peace between planet Earth and her many space colonies. And assuming that they're no longer needed, the powerful Gundam mobile suits are sent to the sun to be destroyed. But trouble brews in the new X-18999 colony. Relena Darlian, vice foreign minister of the new Earth government, is kidnapped by a new army-led by a little girl-that plots to revolt against the Earth. And if that's not enough, a Gundam pilot joins the club and brings his mobile suit with him. Now the remaining pilots must recover their weapons and fight to prevent the great tragedies of the past.
Those unfamiliar with Gundam Wing won't be able to make heads or tails out of the story; in that case, you should read the original manga first. Those up to speed won't find much of a difference between this and the Endless Waltz movie. Some new scenes are added, some are taken out, and some are switched around at the cost of the story's momentum. That and the dialogue's a little muddy. Aside from a few twists, you won't find anything particularly new in the manga, and you can probably finish it in 1 or 2 sit-downs. But for the most devoted Gundam fans, it's time well spent.
This comic is rated Y for Youth: Violence.
an amazing book.......2005-08-26
this book is very good and handy.

kickassgundam.......2004-07-11
Endless Waltz is super good the frist chapter is however boring but its the best gundam manga i have. (13) it takes place one year ofter operation meteor with this basturd trying to take over and to do that he and she will need Relena. so it's search and save for Heero and Dou + Quatre. wheres Wufei and Trowa find out in this kick ass gundam manga.
Fighting for Peace.......2003-09-22
Gundam Wing ---- Endless Waltz is one of the Gundam series, which written by two famous Japanese science fiction writer, Hajime Yadate and Yoshiyuki Tomino. They have written a lots of the Gundam series. All the Gundam series are show a grandiose history of the war in human.
The five Gundam pilots are the main character in this story. From the beginning the five youths searched for peace in themselves way. Four of them send Gundams to the sun in order to keep peace. They thought if they destroyed all weapons, the war would never happen again.
Oppositely, Wufei did not send his Gundam to the sun, because he thought peace was never became of the world. When the war broke out, Wufei joined the Mariemeia Army; he wanted to find the right just. When he did everything he asked himself ¡°Am I doing the right thing?¡± While Wufei battled with Heero, he asked Heero ¡°Are you right? Is your cause just? I am asking you if you are doing the right thing!¡± At the end, Wufei came out from the mind lost, he asked people who were eager for peace to battle with the Mariemeia Army. Finally Wufei found out his peace and joined Prevent as a Preventer, waiting for fighting for peace¡¡
For other Gundam pilots, Trowa pretended to join the Mariemeia Army, for stopping the colony from dropping on Earth; Duo went to save Relena and fought with the Mariemeia Army; Quatre tried his best to get the lost Gundams from their way to the sun, for this he almost got near to the hell ---- dead in the space.
Heero is the main character of the five Gundam pilots. It may show from the title ---- Gundam Wing, because the Gundam of Heero named Wing Zero. Heero was always silence, usually he did not say anything, but when he said something that meant he would do it in his own way, until he got the goal. While Heero battled with Wufei, he just said one sentence ¡°Wufei, self-detonation!¡± and then did move at all, because he believe Wufei would stop. While they battled the next time on Earth, he asked Wufei how many people did they have killed? And how many people they would still kill for the peace! He then dropped himself to the bottom of the ocean in order to let Wufei woke up to find the real peace! At the end, Heero confirmed that the shield was unable to destroy. After three blasts from Wing Zero, he was able to destroy the shield, but Wing Zero was also destroyed. Heero was a soldier like this, a soldier fought for peace at all costs! I give my best respect to him!
The story named Gundam Wing----Endless Waltz. It means the war likes endless waltz, human battle for any reason from human history, from the beginning but no end. Peace likes wing, sometimes near to us but sometimes far away from us. How can we do? To keep the wing holding on palm of your hand, or always waiting for the coming wind and stopping the wind blow away the wing? I will choice the last way to protect the only wing for us all.
Everyone considers that war is the ugliest cruelest thing in the word, in our deep heart. Everyone is eager for peace, they hate war hate battle. But from this science fiction book, it tells us, peace is something you have to fight for. The book really shows that the meaning of the true peace!

Very good........2007-04-03
A fine companion to the first book. Solid in melding striking with standing grappling.
A unique JKD look at grappling strategy.......2001-05-23
I really liked a lot of the material in this book. It really stands out because Sifu Hartsell does not simply give us a bunch of random grappling techniques. Instead he gives us techniques and strategies that truly reflect the techniques and ideas of the Jeet Kune Do fighting method. I particularly liked the section that dealt with using the JKD trapping tools as a defense against grappling attacks. It is this aspect and the various clinch strategies that make his book a worthy addition to a JKD practitioner's library. On the downside, you must remember that this book was published in 1987 and so it does not take into account a lot of modern day grappling/submissions knowledge. As a result, some of the material (especially the stuff that deals with groundfighting, joint locks and submission) seems dated by today's standards. Nevertheless, you'll still find plenty of valuable stuff in this book.
Add Grappling to your Martial art........2001-01-26
This book presents problem situations and gives you the best grappling solutions from Jujitsu, Kali, Aikido, Western Wrestling etc. I cannot think how this book could have been made better. Although this book is the second in a series on grappling showing some reversals of moves made in the first book I think this book stands on its own as it shows the original moves. In other words if you can afford both books buy both if you just want to buy one book - get this one. Every technique is explained with the aid of clear step by step photographs. There is a great section on what to do in the stand up tie up position (Boxer's clinch) which occurs frequently in street fights. All you need is this book and someone to practise on.
Excellent book for both the beginner and experienced MArtist.......1999-07-23
As a white belt beginning my training in my mid 30's, with all the responsibility of work, home, and kids, and squeezing in 3 classes a week, while training at home in my own garage, now gym, I found this book to be an excellent reference to review at home, or to help me work out techniques that I may have had difficulty with. My sensei has ordered the book as a general reference for our dojo. Both the beginner and experienced martial arts practitioner can benefit from the easy to follow pictures and written explanations of each technique.

Counter attack Taking back ground lost to sin.......2006-02-05
Having read several of Jay Carty's books now I have to say he is an incredibly inspiring writer and person to say the least. I am so excited each month as I check for new "stuff" from Jay Carty as it is always refreshing and different yet always connected to God with a three stranded cord. If you haven't been a reader of his books for long there are many to choose from and this writer never stops searching for Gods will in his daily efforts to continue to provide hearty reading material for all groups and all stages from salvation, and growth to a mature level of one's spiritual walk. I highly recommend anything he puts his hands on because I know the hand of God is on him. Some of what I have read and or listened to on tape are:"Discovering your natural talents", "Counter Attack: taking back ground lost to sin", "Playing with fire", "Something's fishy Getting rid of the carp in your life","Coach Wooden One on One", "Coach Wooden's Piramid of success", Darrell Waltrip - One on One, "Mike Singletary- One on One" all keeping me captivated from cover to cover!

The focus of this book isn't sin alone.......2003-06-02
The focus of this book is on Christ who has freed us from sin. I really appreciated Jay Carty's fresh, upbeat humor that made the truths in the book more easily accepted. We really do have to "take every thought captive," but we don't want to be captive to taking thoughts captive.
Overall, this is a very balanced and real book. I hate that it's out of print but luckily people are sharing so I could get a copy.
an excellent resource for overcoming and dealing with sin.......1999-06-26
Of all the Christian "how to" books, this is the best I have read! Carty uses humor and a light writing style to maintain the reader's interest in a heavy subject. He gives practical advice with step by step instructions. And, his methods, when applied, really do work!
This book is excellent for the new Christian and relevent for the life long Christian. It is an excellent discipleship and accountability manual as well. And, its ideas are universal for all ages and denominations.
Carty deals with 3 main areas in which we all struggle: Anger, Godlessness, and Sexual Sin. While each subject is treated seperately, one unit builds upon another. In other words, what is taught in one unit can be applied to the other units.
I first read the book nearly 10 years ago, and I still remember its ideas and concepts, and I use them as well.
This is a book that needs to be reprinted and back out on the market!
Easy reading, but very powerfull, Fun, extreamly informitive........1998-06-12
This book is an exelent tool for new and old Chrisians alike, who are looking to deepen their relationship with Christ. You will actually feel the results of the prayers and rebukes that Jay leads you through. This book has changed my life. Thank you Jay Carty.

Customer Reviews:
Oh Boy, more adventures of Kit and Chase!.......2002-04-20
I am rapidly becoming a big fan of Thomas Hopp's writing. Dinosaur Wars Counterattack is another good old fashioned adventure story, just like the first book. Hopp has a way with characters. The hero and heroine, Chase and Kit, are two young people I want to spend more time with. They seem to get into the toughest spots with dinosaurs, then somehow come out alive. This is really a page turner, just like before.
The dinosaurs in this book are extremely realistic, with great pains taken to "flesh them out" in detail, while not detracting from a rapid-fire plot. I was not aware that many dinosaurs had feathers or fur on them, until reading these books. So long scaly lizards, here come the warm blooded, seriously hungry dinos.
While the beasts eat their share of humans, this book is definitely rated G, because there is nothing a younger reader would need to feel squeemish about. There are no "adult" situations beyond a little kissy-face, and, as I found out, there is a refreshing lack of profane language. Hopp seems intent on making his characters fine, upstanding people, generating excitement by casting them into desperate circumstances. Works for me.
As I did with Dinosaur Wars, I give this novel my wholehearted endorsement. It is an undiscovered gem and someday I predict: a major motion picture.
Dinos are coming for dinner - and you're on the menu!.......2002-03-09
The young hero and heroine, Chase Armstrong and Kit Daniels, survived the first Dinosaur War when a human-sized, intelligent species of dinosaurs returned from space to reclaim their home world-OUR WORLD! Now, the tentative peace between the invaders and the US military is breaking down. Our bombers and tanks are on the move again, as are the fighting machines of the Kra armies. In the midst of the renewed turmoil, Kit and Chase's new romance breaks down as well. Now they must each try to survive alone. Will they find their way back together, or end up as some carnivore's grisly meal? The science behind Dinosaur Wars: Counterattack is fully up-to-date. The deadly Megaraptors, larger than Spielberg's Velociraptors, are fully covered in feathers, the way paleontologists now know they were. Other great beasts of the Cretaceous Era are portrayed in accurate detail as well. A good story, though, hinges on interesting human characters. I hope you will find the young adventurers, Kit and Chase, to be the sort of heroes who make you want to join their quest for survival and love. Think 'Star Wars meets Jurassic Park,' and you'll have a feel for what the book is all about. Counterattack was written in adult-level English and is suitable for all ages to enjoy. If you are a fan of action, adventure, dinosaurs, and a little light romance, I hope you will find this new book to your liking. -Thomas P. Hopp

Book Description
The most important moments in a soccer match are when possession of the ball is lost or won. The ability of a team to quickly and efficiently switch from defense to attack is often the deciding factor in a positive match result. The exercises in this book help coaches develop in their players an understanding of the importance of fast transition and the techniques to carry it out. Perfect for coaches at the junior league through high school level.
