Product Description
The destruction of Buffy's hometown, plus covert and powerful slayer "cells" around the world, add up to a new label for the Scoobies: Terrorist threat. Speaking of Sunnydale, the crater formerly known as, has opened to reveal the witch Amy, and boy is she mad.
Season Eight continues as Buffy creator Joss Whedon brings Buffy back to Dark Horse in this direct follow-up to Season Seven of the smash-hit TV series.

And the story continues.......2007-04-22
Warning: Thar be spoilers ahead!
Remember each week those exciting words (which alerted us that we were about to get a new exciting episode of the best show on TV)? "Previously on BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER . . . " The new comic series seems to be doing something along these same lines. On the inside of the outer cover are printed the following:
"This story takes place after the end of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Season Seven.
"The Slayer population of the world has gone from two to nearly two thousand. Almost five hundred are working around the world with Buffy's organization in squads--or "terrorist cells," according to the American military. Buffy, Xander, Dawn, and a passel of Slayers are currently bunked out in a Scottish castle, where the latest mission revealed a strange symbol carved into human bodies.
"Also, Dawn's a giant."
This may be a summary that is rewritten each month to reflect what has happened in the previous issues.
The first episode in Season Eight established the situation; this one begins moving the story forward. The U.S. military (or rather, a military leader who has on his chest the strange symbol referred to in the monthly summary) has authorized Amy the witch and her army of zombies to go after Buffy and her cohorts. After the story begins with three very different approaches to training the new slayers by first Giles, then Buffy, and finally Andrew (who actually couldn't be said to be training them at all) we find Xander explaining why Dawn took the form of a giant when it was possible she could have assumed other forms instead (obviously, she is trying to get her sister's attention in the most blatant manner possible). The catch is, does Xander really tell any of this to Buffy or is it all just part of what we later learn is a spell-induced sleep in which she experiences an unbroken nightmare. And in a fairy-tale twist she can only be awakened by the kiss of true love. We can, of course, imagine a line of possible candidates for that: Angel and Spike fighting to be first in line. Well, of course Buffy will be awakened, and sooner rather than later. Can't imagine her being asleep at the end of the next episode. The tricky part is how one defines "true love." That needn't mean romantic love. My gut tells me that the kiss won't come from any of the usual suspects. My money is on Dawn. Yeah, I know. No one likes Dawn. But the brute fact is that except for struggling to save her in Season Five, Buffy has been a truly awful sister. Not in a Cinderella step sisterly way, but in the completely neglectful, can't-spare-her-a-minute way. But early in Season Six, Dawn seemed to miss her more than anyone. Like I said, my money is on Dawn.
The issues ends with Buffy asleep, the castle under assault by hundreds of zombies they can't keep at bay, Amy gloating that she could handle slayers with ease, so there was no one there who could take her on. The final frame is of someone who says that they would "like to test that theory." And thus Willow makes her first appearance in the story.
I am going to say something that I don't think I can say often enough. I don't want Joss Whedon writing comics. I want him creating new television shows. I suspect he enjoys the control that a comic gives him. I am sure he is tired of battling studios and networks. I can understand that. But once the battles have been waged and the BS has been waded through, Joss Whedon has been able to create some of the most extraordinary, most timeless television that has ever been made. He needs to get back to it. That being said, I am so much happier with him doing BUFFY Season Eight than either his X-Men project or the Runaways (and mind you, I like both the X-Men and the Runaways). There are others who can tell further stories about the X-Men and the Runaways, but Joss Whedon is only one who can give us authoritative Buffy stories. So I am acquiring these with joy and my heart and impatience in my soul. But I want him back in television. We've had some great TV since BUFFY and ANGEL left the air. LOST, 24, VERONICA MARS, and especially BATTLESTAR GALACTICA have filled the huge gap BUFFY left at its departure. But LOST needs to start winding down (whether it will has to be seen), BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (the only show to completely match the brilliance that was BUFFY) has possibly only one more season left and at most two before Ron Moore brings his series to an end. 24 is definitely in decline. VERONICA MARS might be cancelled. In short, JOSS! WE NEED YOU TO COME BACK TO TELEVISION! But in the meantime, I'll wolf down every one of these issues.
Episode Two: Attack of the Rat.......2007-04-05
Buffy fans will be expecting a lot after seven stellar seasons on television and the success of the first issue of "Season Eight." So the question here is this: Does Issue #2 deliver?
In short, yes. I have to say though--there is so much going on, so many jokes, and so much foreshadowing that I wasn't able to completely enjoy the Jossy goodness until my second read. The first read intrigued me, but the second wow-ed me.
The plot continues directly from the previous issue. Amy (the former rat) is working with the government to take out Buffy and the slayers, and she has an army of zombies to back her up. The ending sequences are amazing--I'm already itching for May 2nd to come so I can get my hands on the third issue. There was a big revelation about half-way through the comic, and clues to who the Big Bad of the season will be as well. Giant Dawn is great, Buffy is true to herself, and Xander is playing the biggest role he's played since the first season.
This issue also re-introduces two fan favorites: Giles and Andrew. So, all in all, this issue is just as good as the first. But did anybody expect anything less? I mean, come on--Joss Whedon wrote it.

Great Compilation.......2007-04-03
A well put together bundle of both the classic and the new graphic novels with a few extras. Very Impressive packaging (coffee table worthy).
Cost to damn much........2007-01-28
The first one was great. The second one...I think that Frank Miller read "Kingdom Come" and said "I can do better!".
Only problem is. He didn't.
Once Amazon dropped their discount this is no longer worth it. Buy it if you love Frank Miller but buy it somewhere else.
BOTH Worthy Reads.......2007-01-27
Everybody knows TDKR was a phenominal book. What everybody doesn't know is that The Dark Knight Strikes Again is ALSO a phenominal book. Many readers have their opinions warped by superficial comic book reviewers who critique Miller's sequel because it was not as "dark" or "gritty" as the first book was. Is that it? Is that you're only complaint? Are you so ignorant that you're not going to delve underneath the appearances to look at the thematic significance of the work?
Yes, TDKSA is a departure from its predecessor in terms of style. But it still shines in RELEVENCY. Miller gives us a mind blowing look at what our society is and may become. What is democracy in the media age? Do the people really run a country where a select few that run the major news outlets control everything that the people know and believe? And does it make us feel any better that it is one man, Batman, who is arrogant enough to enforce his social ideology on us?
Don't be fooled. While The Dark Knight Returns is still a significant work in today's literary work, it was a book about yesterday. The Dark Knight Strikes Again is a book about TODAY.
Great Batman book.......2007-01-16
I love Batman and this book is realy great its one of the best books I own you should buy it.
Half good, half ordinary.......2007-01-16
I can distinctly remember the pleasure I had reading the original Return of the Dark Knight issues way, way back. A massive, high quality volume like Absolute Dark Knight is fitting for a such body of work. Sadly, the second part is _much_ less interesting in most respects.

The Death of Superman was a 1992 stunt that turned out to be DC's bestselling Superman comic ever. The massive 11-issue crossover among four different series (Superman, Superman: The Man of Steel, Action Comics, and Justice League of America) introduces an unstoppable alien named Doomsday who creates a path of destruction on his way to the heart of Metropolis and whom Superman must stop at any cost. It's of interest as a milestone of the Superman mythos (though of course the outcome didn't last), but casual fans might be underwhelmed by the unfamiliar villain and the unfamiliar Justice League (with Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, and other minor heroes rather than the traditional lineup), the drawn-out story (by Dan Jurgens, Jerry Ordway, Louise Simonson, and Roger Stern), and the ordinary art (by Jurgens, Jon Bogadanove, Tom Grummett, and Jackson Guice). --David Horiuchi

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-25
The trade reproduction of the mainstream crossover stunt that DC comics pulled back in the early 1990s. Everyone knew they weren't going to kill him, so from that point of view it was pretty silly. Other than that, most of the story and the whole Doomsday beatdown wasn't too bad, although perhaps it tailed off a little towards the end.
I Remember the Day Well...The Day Superman Died.......2007-09-12
In the 90s, this was definitely one of the 100 most shocking moments, the death of Superman. In America, he is a hero for sure when it comes to fictional characters. The story starts off slow, like most stories do, but it does serve to build a giant explosion of action that will keep you fliping the pages to see what happens next.
Doomsday, the villain of the story, is definitely portrayed as an unstoppable force. He is pure destruction, killing many people while leaving rubble and the JLA destroyed in the wake, a real challenge for Superman. There will never be a moment in the history of comics that will ever top this story. Since then, we know what happens after the story and Superman's return, but that doesn't stop this from being any less of a good read.
Superman is Dead!.......2007-07-17
Lots of action in this book. There's not really a story to it. The only important things are that Superman died and that the Justice Leugue got beat up really badly. A fun but short read and a good buy.
Great.......2007-07-03
Wow, I never thought it would happen. Superman died! Great story, well-written, well-drawn. The bad guy, Doomsday, looks awsome. I can't wait to find out were he came from. Get all three in the Death of Superman series, it ties the story all up in a nice bow. Anyone who likes Superman stories will love (and hate) the Death of Superman. It almost feels like it really happened.
Superman vs. Doomsday.......2007-06-26
This is the greatest Superman comic book ever! You are probably wondering,"How the heck did a 10-year old get ahold of this?" I found this in an old shoebox in the basement. Graphic novel indeed! This is incredibly violent. But it's more than just mindless boxing.I wouldn't recommend this for 5-year olds.(alias:my brother)Age group:10-70.Content includes:violence, cussing, destruction, death, and blood.Think that's bad?The violence doesn't even compare with today's comics.I was flipping through a Spider-Man comic in a bookstore.Spider-Man smashed a man's face into a concrete girder!Terrible! There are several heroes in this book that are beaten to a pulp.First Guy Gardner(don't know the heck he is)is beaten until his face is puffy!Booster Gold(still don't who these guys are)has his head stuck in a car door and slammed shut.Fire and Ice(who the heck are these people)get a good k.o. x) And Blue Beetle is bashed face first into pipes and concrete.Superman,on the other hand, puts up a good, bloody fight to the finish. At the very end, each fighter throws their final punch, knocking the blood out of each other's mouth, the fight is over. Both dead.Greatest book ever!

!!!!!!!!!.......2007-02-20
Hands down this book should be a MANDATORY read of all young African Americans. If BET were to share just a fact a day with it's viewers; that would single handedly change the state of todays youth, which would entail a more productive renasiance-esque future for all!!! Please read this book!! And share with all!!
A must read.......2006-01-07
This book was given to me by a good friend. I've read it at least 3 times. The clever way the author used this fictional story to illustrate that genotype among the human race is unilateral and how differentiating us by phenotype is ridiculous, is brilliant. "Prejudice is the reason of fools."-Voltaire. This book should be required in all areas of sociology and cultural studies. Again, a must read.
The Deception is the Key.......2005-05-29
I had this book for five years before I finally picked it up to read and to my surprise, it was magnificent...an exciting verbal exchange between a politician whose knowledge regarding people is neglegeable and a porter whose knowledge of people is extensive. The two strike up a conversation first as servant to customer then ending as teacher informer to student learner. Its very passionate, engrossing and will keep your interest.
Pleasant surprise.......2000-07-14
While cleaning out a closet full of books at the community center where I serve as its Educational Director, this book falls off of the shelf. It has been the most enlightening book I have ever read! The previous reviewers have spoken ever so eloquently, I will simply say, given the psuedo-intellectual, "we have overcome" times we live in, J.A. Rogers' work should be manditory reading for all. At home and abroad. This book keeps it "real.
The Definitive Book of African American thought.......2000-02-08
This is historically the best book I've read since, "Sister outsider". In only 129 pages you will find the history of the world. Historians will truly enjoy this witty and humorous text. It reminds one of the teachings of Fanon. What I would like to know, if anyone can answer this question for me. Who is the M. Finot that J.A. Rogers often quotes in the book? Thanks Sincerely.Jm

Customer Reviews:
Morrison misses the mark with this one.......2007-09-18
Read Morrison's "All-Star Superman" today, and it just doesn't work for me. It's yet another reinvention of the Man of Steel, but like Bryan Singer's dismall 'Superman Returns' remake, this Superman just doesn't feel right. The stories all seem hurried and undeveloped, and after all of these messy mini-stories, the book still leaves you with Superman and his unresolved terminal illness. How about some resolution Grant?
Frank Quitely offers some exceptional artwork, however, and his artwork, combined with excellent color work, really stands out. I just wish there was a little more substance to this book, but it was just page after page of retelling of the same old establish framework.
Also, for the casual reader, who doesn't pour over Wizard each month, it would help if there was a little background established at the beginnning of this trade paperback. So this is a tabula rasa Superman, apparently? He isn't married to Lois anymore? And Luther is just another villian, and not president? Having these details established at the beginning, you know, something like "We're hosing the established continuity AGAIN and starting over" would help. And, for what it's worth, John Byrne did a much better job of the reinvention.
All-Star Superman was passable but nothing spectacular. And as a side-note, I was somewhat taken aback by the comment made on page 67, as "Samson", offering time traveling adventures to Lois, glibly makes the comment that they could travel through time and "end the evening with drinks at the crucifixion." Give me a break. Talk about a low-taste, bigoted remark. So much for Christians reading this book: let's just take a stab at your faith. Imagine if Morrison had written "end the evening with drinks at ground zero on 9/11". Would Morrison have found that humorous too? For DC comics, I guess there's nothing wrong with making a casual jab at the expense of the death of Jesus Christ.
The First Volume of Many, I Hope...........2007-09-10
Everyone who knows anything about comics has heard of the Silver and Golden Ages, and both (arguable) are appopriately named. I don't know what the present age in comics will be called in the future, but I'll always remember it as the Dark Age and here's to hoping it ends soon (you can't even tell the difference between good and bad guys anymore). As an amateur artist myself I understand the impact, positive or negative, that the art of comics or any art at all for that matter, can have on people. Admittedly, today's comics are packed with suspenseful action that can easily take you for one heck of a ride, but have you really looked at these books? There are so many of them that look like midnight from cover to cover, no longer just harmless and enjoyable. When most of the art is done in deep, dark colors, the lasting impression is dark. This dramatic/sad/spooky tone is perfect for some stories and even I like to sit down with one of those moody works sometimes but not all the time. Entertainment is supposed to be fun, not depressing! And good comics, through good art and the right attitude, can give you that: an optimistic feel even in the face of doomsday, groundbreaking, take-your-breath-away events. They canmake you think and feel and leave you satisfied but wanting more. Of you agree, then you'll love this book. It's not bloody or overly suggestive and, though the dialogue was great, I don't recall seeing a single cussword. It's a book that kids will want to share with their parents, not hide it under the bed so they won't see and parents are likely to enjoy it, too, and just as much. I wholly believe that, given half a chance, anyone and everyone will like it. For years to come, hopefully, this series is bound to set the standard for comics. Here, Superman is not just a mindless, raging being who fights for the heck of it, as most comics seem to make him lately. This is, after all, only the first volume (6 episodes) of a new, ongoing series so maybe it's a downhill ride from here, but I doubt it. The art, the characters, the story, the dialogue.... All so familiar, but so original. To quote my 11-year-old-brother, it's "Cool!".
Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-04
All Star Superman is drawn by Frank Quitely, which is always pretty cool. The story seems quite a bit more reminscent at times of Elliott Maggin's novels, than anything else. That doesn't mean there isn't some craziness in there, but a bit more of that whole Superman, Lois and Lex tone that the author comes up with, so Morrison has done a pretty decent job.
WORST SUPER-MAN BOOK NEVER: A BIZARRO REVIEW.......2007-07-22
Me am so mad at Grant Morrison for drawing such a bad book. And me no pleased that Frank Quitely not decide to write! This is surely not worst ever book that not star Me Bizarro's least hated hero, Lex Luthor, world's most hairiest man! The sight of seeing Superman walking in space with moon behind him is such a wretched piece of art that me not have it framed and wear around me's neck! It is really boring story that not serve to show that Spider-Man really am biggest DC Villain of No-Time! Lois Lane surely am ugly man and Jimmy Olsen is the real star of the whole story! Perry White not edit well world's least read newspaper, Daily Planet. This whole story is one big hoax. Everybody know that Superman is already dead, so him no in danger of living long life! Hooray!
TRANSLATED: this is, as Grant Morrison put it, "a love letter to Superman". Nothing else really need be said. I simply cannot wait until this entire run is collected into an ABSOLUTE EDITION.
Some criticism has been levelled at this book about it not being spectacular enough (read: action-heavy) and "too Silver Age" , but that is to miss the point. It's obvious that Grant has chosen to tell his story a particular way, focusing less on the "bigger" aspects of normal superhero comics and more on the quieter, introspective aspects of the Superman-verse.
I particularly love the sequence in issue 1 where Clark is late to a meeting and Grant/Frank depict his saving the boy and dog from the oncoming truck, to then "saving" Steve from scolding himself with coffee to Clark's classic line: "Working on my suntan, Chief?" Brilliant! No, actually, make that -- "SUPER!"
I am in awe!
The New-Old Superman.......2007-07-06
Quite honestly, I have never liked Superman. However, the quirky charm that Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely infused the character and his supporting cast with proved irresistible.
The stories range from delightfully quirky to honestly heartwrenching, and they offer some of the best portrayals of the Superman supporting cast I've ever read. Many of the best stories, such as 'The Gospel According to Lex Luthor' feature very little in the realm of traditional superheroics, but are some of the best Superman stories in decades.
You don't have to have a love of superheroes, comic books, or Superman himself in order to appreciate All-Star Superman - you just have to enjoy the quirky and the wonderful.

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03
This is the middle section of the Death and Life of Superman, or whatever you want to call that particular story.
Metropolis and the rest of the world are having problems coming to terms with the fact that he is gone.
Others see his body as a resource they can use in their schemes.
extremely satisfied.......2007-07-27
my item arrived in brand new condition and i was very happy with my purchase
I like it........2007-07-17
I think it's better than The Return of Superman because it shows the whole worlds reaction to his death and there's a bigger story than The Death of Superman. If you read The Death of Superman you will probably enjoy this book even more.
COOL.......2007-05-14
THIS WAS COOL TO ME BUT THE FRIEND LIKED IT MORE THAN ME BECAUSE HE IS A SUPERMAN FAN
Good middle to the Death of Superman story.......2006-12-08
This is continued off the Death of Superman and tells you what the world would be like without its greatest superhero. I'm not a huge Superman fan and I had to applaude the way this beginning part of the Death of Superman franchise handled us non-fans and made us wanting more. This book shows how people handled Superman's death and leaks into the beginning of The Return of Superman, which just isn't worth anyones time. If you read Death of Superman and liked it then you should purchase this and keep the magic going.

Great Read.......2007-10-01
Great read for anyone looking for a creative well thought out twist to the Superman legacy.
Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03
A very different relationship between Luthor/Superman and Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman, in this recreation of the Superman myth, witch Superman growing up a Ukrainian farm boy.
Taking over for Stalin, the world becomes happy and communist, except for Luthor and the USA.
A little twist at the end, too.
A fine reimagining of the Superman mythos.......2007-07-30
I've always been a fan of the Elseworlds universe. It provides different possibilities which, while familiar, can also be self contained pieces all on their own without having to be bogged down with the idea that it may have repercussions in the continuity of the larger comic book universe. It doesn't always work, with either the art or the story a little off kilter, but when it does you know you have something special.
"Red Son" is an example of when it does work.
In the world of "Red Son" the Superman we know never crashed on the Kent farm and he never grew up to stand for truth, justice, and the American way. He crashed down in Soviet Russia, and became its greatest advocate, defender and premier. In this world, nothing is as it seems.
Mark Millar does beautiful writing and the story is tightly woven, spanning decades from the moment where Superman becomes Stalin's right hand man, until his final Battle with Lex Luthor and the United States of America! The art is more than passable and melds well with the story, providing just enough action that you'll find yourself holding your breath as you turn the page.
The point of this whole review is to point out that I haven't been this excited and amazed by an Elseworlds book since Kingdom Come and I think I've been waiting for this little gem to come along for a long time without even realizing it. You'd be a fool not to give this work a shufti. Buy it forthwith! The sooner you get it, the sooner you'll agree I was right.
It's great.......2007-06-12
This take on Superman is great. You get a differnt perspective if he had been a Soviet. Great read for everyone, even if you are not a Superman fan. It's worth your time.
Elseworlds - Brilliant.......2007-06-05
This is one of the better graphic novels I have picked up in the last few months. I anticipated it to be good - but I never expected it to be this good. What it's strengths were breaking away from the molds in which the DC characters are made from and recasting them in different circumstances. The "humanness" of Superman comes through as well as his capacity to protect all mankind.
I was pleasantly surprised to find myself rooting for Lex Luthor at the end. Throughout the book you get a keen sense of his intellect that rarely shines when he is bent on world domination. I believe this graphic novel gives Lex a new light in which he shines beyond capacity.
I would recommend this to any Superman fan, or anyone familiar with the series.

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03
A bizarre cross-universe game between Mxyzptlk and the Joker, it seems. Batman and Superman are harassed and kept off balance by an Ultimate Marvel Universe satire, and two Bizarros, including a Batman.
In the end, this appears to all be a plot to free Bat-Mite and release Darkseid from the Source Wall, as well as get Batman and Superman to be more trusting.
They get to through in a Batwoman, a Superwoman, and a Supermen and Batman through the ages. Lots of fun for the artists, presumably.
Somewhat incomprehensible and whacky.
Don't skip it..........2007-05-16
I'm not quite sure why so many people have a problem with this story. Sure it's crazy, but considering the main "villains" involved, it should be nothing else. I don't think a lot of people really "get" this story, which is so crazy...it works.
There's a ton of characters involved, and some twists to old favorites. I loved The Maximums as an Avengers parody, great stuff there. Bizzaro and Batzarro are great as unlikely heroes, although after awhile it can be a chore reading their text. It was cool to see Loeb handle them just as he does Supes and Bats though.
Overall this is a fun read, if you take it too seriously, you'll end up jaded like the other people who've written reviews on it. It looks very likely that Loeb and McGuinness just wanted to have a good time with their last S/B arc. It's nice to have some comics left these days that don't take themselves so seriously. It's also worth noting that this arc again builds on the relationship between Superman and Batman, which Loeb is great at. I recommend it, don't listen to the hate.
Jeph Loeb's swan song, thankfully.......2007-05-01
Up until this storyarc, I pretty much enjoyed Jeph Loeb's run on the high selling Superman/Batman series, but sadly, Loeb's final arc on the title is just loaded with plot holes and hard to understand. Vengeance finds a group called the Maximums hunting down Superman and Batman because they believe the two iconic heroes murdered one of their own. Naturally, this is not the case, and soon enough Bizarro is on the scene, along with "Batzarro" (I kid you not), the Joker, and Mr. Mxyzptlk. What happens next in Vengeance is incredibly hard to follow as Loeb appears to shift things into high gear, but things never take off. His renditions of Supes and Bats are more wooden here than ever before, and the story inconsistencies and additional appearances out of nowhere just boggle the mind. Ed McGuinness, who teamed with Loeb when Superman/Batman launched, returns to lend his pencil work with Dexter Vines on inks, may be too cartoony for some, but it's undoubtedly the highlight of this TPB. This ended up being Loeb's last arc on the title before taking work once again with Marvel, so hopefully the otherwise talented and celebrated writer has had his batteries recharged.
Poor Storyline.......2007-02-26
I loved the first two arcs of the Superman/Batman series - they were superb. The first of those, "Public Enemies", was made by the same team that created this, but its hard to believe by reading it. Loeb weaves a ridiculous plot that doesn't really do anything except introduce a variety of characters into an absurd storyline. The only redeeming feature of this whole thing is the artwork by McGuiness, which was excellent as usual. But it doesn't make it worth wasting time with this silly piece.
Great!!!.......2006-11-08
Great addition to the series. I wasnt too crazy about the story, but the number of different characters more than made up for it.

Good Graphic Novel.......2007-09-27
Good read, not as ground-breaking as others before it, but still a good read for your suspension of disbelief
Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-25
There are high stakes here, and high power on top of that. With the arrival of yet another Supergirl retcon into the dc universe, many players are interested. From a hopeful and lonely Superman to a suspicious Batman, a worried villain fraternity and Darkseid, who sees a big opportunity.
Even giving her to Wonder Woman to train comes at a cost.
The new Supergirl. How many have there been?.......2007-09-24
Story: acceptable. Art: ranges from good to mindblowing, athough Turner needs to practice drawing feet. This has a place on your shelf.
pretty good kara re-intro..........2007-05-11
well i have mixed feelings about this. the art is great, the story is fairly good until the end. the end of the book is so extremely cheesy it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. superman introduces supergirl to the jla, jsa, titans, etc. and it's god-awful cheese. but i like the beginning of the book when kara lands and batman finds her.
Enter Kara Zor-El.......2007-05-08
This collection is a follow up to 'Public Enemies' and reintroduces Superman's Cousin Kara Zor-El to the DCU. The storyline is even more intriguing then its predecessor and the art is equally as incredible (no body can draw Batman better then Michael Turner).
Lex Luthor may have been insane, but he wasn't wrong. Superman was what drew the kryptonite asteroid to earth. While inspecting pieces of sunken meteor rock in Gotham's Harbors Batman discovers a space ship with kryptonian writing. He is soon in pursuit of a naked teenage girl whom has powers remarkably similar to Supermans. After subduing her with green kryptonite Batman takes her back to the cave for analysis. It is there that they discover that she is indeed kryptonian and related to Superman himself.
Finally feeling like he isn't alone in the universe Clark bonds with his cousin immediately. He trusts her completely and even reveals his secret identity to her after only a few days. Bruce however isn't so trust worthy, he suspects that she is some elaborate trap and arranges for the girl to be taken away to Themyscira (Paradise Island) where she is trained by Wonder Woman. Just when Bats suspicion is subsiding Darkseid launches a full scale attack on the island and kidnaps Kara. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Barda now have to travel to Apokolips to bring her back. However, are they willing to destroy an entire planet to do so? And even more, will Kara even want to come back?
This collection is defiantly worth picking up. After reading this I snatched up Supergirl: Power, Kara Zor-El is quickly becoming one of my favorite DCU characters.
+This trade contains a guide to kryptonian so all you fanboys and girls can translate the language yourself.
