This book is very complete. You can find almost everything that you need to learn.
The book missing the content.......2005-09-02
The pages of the content are ripped off. The pen writtings are all over the book. It is in a such bad shape that sometimes it is hard to make out the words. I have received the book in awful condition, even for the used book.
Good book, but with errors and no apparent support........2001-11-15
I'm a college ESL instructor, and am a bit frustrated. This book has some good exercises, and is very good, but it DOES have errors, and no web site or phone number is given for support. In these Internet-intensive days, a support web site should be a given! I've got to correct students' homework now, seeing if they found the 8 grammatical errors in the given paragraph; I can only find 7! I wish there were someone to contact.
The best book I've ever read..........2000-04-15
This book let you catch the most important thing easily. What's more, you would be suprised at it's detail which makes you understand the tricky things... Whenever you are stuck, it will give best help.

Book Description
Michelle Maxwell has just wrecked her promising career at the Secret Service. Against her instincts, she let a presidential candidate out of her sight for the briefest moment and the man whose safety was her responsibility vanished into thin air. Sean King knows how the younger agent feels. Eight years earlier, the hard-charging Secret Service agent allowed his attention to be diverted for a split second. And the candidate he was protecting was gunned down before his eyes. Now Michelle and Sean are about to see their destinies converge. Drawn into a maze of lies, secrets, and deadly coincidences, the two discredited agents uncover a shocking truth: that the separate acts of violence that shattered their lives were really a long time in the making-and are a long way from over

"eBook Special Feature:? David Baldacci's personal thoughts on writing The Simple Truth and The Christmas Train? Includes excerpts from The Simple Truth and The Christmas Train. It was only a split second;but that's all it took for Secret Service agent Sean King's attention to wander and his "protectee," third-party presidential candidate Clyde Ritter, to die. King retired from the Service in disgrace, and now, eight years later, balances careers as a lawyer and a part-time deputy sheriff in a small Virginia town. Then he hears the news: Once again, a third-party candidate has been taken out of the presidential race;abducted right under the nose of Secret Service agent Michelle Maxwell. King and Maxwell form an uneasy alliance, and their search for answers becomes a bid for redemption as they delve into the government's Witness Protection Program and the mysterious past of Clyde Ritter's dead assassin. But the truth is never quite what it seems, and these two agents have learned that even one moment looking in the wrong direction can be deadly. Full of shocking twists and turns, and introducing a villian to rival Jackson in Baldacci's The Winner, SPLIT SECOND is pure, mind-numbing adrenaline to the last page."
Customer Reviews:
That split second that determines your life, and the lives of others.......2007-09-05
Baldacci's presentation of that "Lord Jim" moment, the moment that determines the course of your life, is told quite well. Two of these moments, actually. It's an interesting story about two Secret Service agents, one male and one female, who both make split second mistakes, and their attempt to redeem themselves by finding out who kidnapped a presidential candidate. Again, however, I wish the author had condescended to include explicit lovemaking scenes between the two agents. What does it take to get an R-rated book these days anyway?
fun, easy read, intriguing, but lacks something.......2007-08-27
I enjoy increasing my vocabulary as I read. This book didn't challenge me in that aspect. I like following plots, deciphering clue, guessing the ending. Baldacci drops enough hints yet the ending seems believable only if one is as demented as the arch villain. The story maintains a high level of suspense throughout. At times the agents follow dead ends or scant clues but that is life in the FBI and Secret Service at times. Baldacci uses too much dialog which doesn't develop enough depth for some of the characters. Overall, a good choice if you want an exciting read where you don't need to engage your brain. Just enjoy the plot, don't try to figure it out.
Nothing special..........2007-07-27
Not a terrible book but not one that I feel the need to read again. A basic formulaic "fluff" thriller.
A Real Thriller from Start to Finish.......2007-06-17
David Baldacci was born in 1960. He attended law school at the University of Virginia, and went on to work as a trial lawyer, and later as a corporate lawyer, in Washington, D.C. He is now a full-time writer whose best selling novels include Absolute Power, Total Control, The Winner, The Simple Truth and Saving Faith. He lives in Virginia with his wife and two children.
The author has come up with a new thriller that is reminiscent of his best selling debut book, Absolute Power. It has all of the thrills and excitement of a first rate novel.
Sean King is going place in the closed world of the Secret Service, that is until he makes a fatal mistake. It only took a split second, but that is all it took for a man to die, a man who was under the protection of agent King. Third party presidential candidate Clyde Ritter was dead and Sean King's attention had wandered at the vital moment. He retired from the Service in disgrace and now eight long years later he balances careers as a lawyer and part-time deputy sheriff in a small Virginia town.
Then he hears some news. Another third part candidate has been taken out of the presidential race, abducted right under the nose of Secret Service agent Michelle Maxwell. King thinks its time to take another look at the truth of the matter and forms an uneasy alliance with Michelle Maxwell. But the truth is never quite what it seems and even one unguarded moment can be fatal. The book is full of twists and turns and is well worth reading.
Wow! Could not put it down........2007-05-08
I had read this book a couple of years ago and liked it then and recently read it again. It seems like it was better the second time around. Could not put it down.
I love how the whole story just seemed to tie in to the conclusion.
You will enjoy it.

Book Description
They dubbed him the Collector, so named for his ritual of collecting victims before disposing of them in the most heinous ways possible. FBI Special Agent Maggie O'Dell tracked him for two years, finally ending their game of cat and mouse. Now Albert Stucky has escaped from prison . . . and he is setting up a new game for Maggie O'Dell.
Some say Maggie O'Dell has lost her edge as one of the FBI's best profilers. Since capturing Stucky, she's been walking a tightwire, battling nightmares and guilt over the victims she couldn't save. Now that Stucky is loose again, she's been pulled out of the field. But she knows it's only a matter of time before she's drawn back in -- because only she can see so clearly into the mind of this madman. And he's counting on just that.
As Stucky's trail of victims leads closer and closer to Maggie, she is put back on the case under the supervision of Special Agent R. J. Tully. Together they race against the clock to hunt the killer who remains one bloody step ahead of them. And Maggie finds herself pushed to the very edge. Has her desire to stop Albert Stucky become a matter of personal vengeance? Has she crossed the line? And has that been Stucky's goal all along -- to make her into a monster?
Customer Reviews:
Great Book Series.......2005-12-23
I really enjoyed reading the O'Dell series by Alex Kava. I can't wait until A Necessary Evil comes out. This is a great book, all of them are great reads. If you do read them make sure you read them in order: A Perfect Evil, Split Second, Soul Catcher, At The Stroke of Madness, and coming in February 2006 A Necessary Evil. These are page turning books that you just can't get tired of reading. They were so good, I read all four within a month!
Serial Killing 101?.......2005-11-19
I won't deny the book has its thrilling moments hence the 3 star rating but overall it's formulaic write by numbers stuff where the world's stupidest serial killer is obsessed with the world's stupidest FBI profiler. Yes it certainly has some scarey and gory moments but if you actually start to think about the plot you might wonder why no-one in the FBI even the wonderful Maggie considers that it might be worth investigating the close business associate of an escaped serial killer? Where a killer sets out to implicate the man, whose identity he plans to assume, in a series of murders? Worst of all is Maggie who is supposed to be this hot shot profiler - despite the fact that the killer has targeted several women such as waitresses whom she had a friendly conversation with - it's only after the THIRD death that it occurs to her than - duh - it might be a good idea to stop bonding with every friendly shop assistant she meets! Nor does anyone think to use this pattern to trap the killer ...
Right from the beginning you can see how this story is headed - will this supposedly experienced FBI agent end up ignoring all protocol and common sense and confronting the killer on her own (like apparently she did in the last book and nearly got killed)?Alex Kava isn't a bad writer and I have to say her next book sounds better from the extract at the back but she was definitely crusing on autopilot when she wrote this one ...
Two in a Row.......2005-07-03
Ms Kava's has done it again. This book was just as good as the first one. It really kept me on the edge of my seat. I am looking forward to number three, I hope it is as good as the first two.
Maggie is Great.......2005-04-17
Maggie is a great character. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat with non-stop action. A friend recommended this book and I really enjoyed it.
Ms. Kava Is On Her Way!!.......2004-03-13
Ms. Kava is on her way to becoming a very good suspense writer. Her second book "Split Second" has the scary and chilling killer, the strong and willful heroine (Agent Maggie O'Dell from the first book) and plenty of spine chilling suspense that will keep you glued to the pages until the very end.
This was a fast paced read and one that I highly recommend. Ms. Kava is a fresh new voice to this genre and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.

Suppose that you're given incontrovertible proof that you've been wronged by someone--seriously, grievously wronged. And then suppose that you're also given a handgun, a hundred bullets, and complete assurance that however you choose to use this information--and this gun--you won't be held accountable, won't go to jail, won't pay any price for exacting revenge.
Throw in a secret society, some low-life gamblers, a couple gangland executions, and a healthy dose of Thai boxing, Gracie jujitsu, and other assorted violence (not to mention sex) and you've got one of DC's most compelling comic-book series to come along in years. This trade paperback collects issues 6 through 14 of Vertigo's 100 Bullets series, so you might want to check out the first collection, First Shot, Last Call, if you haven't already. Fans will be happy to find that Split Second Chance clears up some of the questions surrounding the mysterious Agent Graves and the equally enigmatic Minutemen. But as one of the Trust's pawns later learns, "Asking questions is free... but the answers--they can cost you your life." --Paul Hughes

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Better than the first volume, as a little more becomes clear. We start to have an inkling of what Agent Graves is up to, who he is working for, where he comes from, what he wants to get done, and why and how he can come up with the immunity guns and untraceable ammunition, to start with.
Get it now!.......2006-10-08
The ultimate mindf**k. I strongly suggest you read this series. Start with Vol 1 and proceed in sequence. As a matter of fact, I won't waste any more of your time...order and read it now!
A great follow-up and continuation to First Shot, Last Call.......2006-05-04
I was totally blown away by 100 Bullets: First Shot, Last Call. Most people think of comic books as mostly about superheroes and villains. Sure there's the rare serious titles that deal with more than just costumed heroes and out of this world situations, but outside of Miller's Sin City, there's not been another comic book to truly take a shot at creating a noir title that does the word honor. Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso's 100 Bullets series brings the world of Dashiell Hammett, James Cain, Mickey Spillane and Raymond Chandler to the world of comic books, or should I say in this regard: the graphic novel.
With the first volume, Azzarello quickly introduces the reader to his world of revenge, femme fatales and smoke-filled backrooms. He clearly establishes that the world of 100 Bullets is closer to the real world than Miller's Sin City. Where Miller goes the minimalist and overly simplistic route (in both artwork and storytelling) with his Sin City series, Azzarello bases his story in a world that looks so similar to the real world, but with a slight undercurrent of hyperrealism. With this second volume, Azzarello continues the basic theme of carte blanche revenge offered by the old and grizzly Agent Graves to what seem like a random group of people. It is later in the volume that we slowly get a new insight to who Agent Graves is and the secrets behind him and his actions. This revelation actually goes through a three-issue arc that ends the second half of the volume. The one story that really stood out was a stand-alone featuring Lilly Roach in "Heartbreak Sunnyside Up." It stood out not for Lilly taking Graves' offer of the briefcase and the gun, but in Azzarello's heartbreaking and brutal telling of a mother's love for her daughter and losing it in a way both shocking and terrible.
100 Bullets, Split Second Chance marks the second volume in the ongoing series. It takes issues 6 through 14 and adds more mythology to the world Azzarello and Risso have built with the first volume. It's a thicker volume than First Shot, Last Call, but reads just as fast. I highly recommend that people who have read the first volume pick this one up. The previous one may have been Last Call, but this volume just served up a smooth, dangerous second round that would feel at home in anything Spillane, Cain, Chandler and Hammett call home.
Wow!.......2006-01-18
Brian Azzarello, 100 Bullets: Split Second Chance (Vertigo, 2000)
Wow. I liked First Shot, Last Call, the first 100 Bullets book. This one, though, is on a whole other plane of existence. The episodic nature of the first book goes right out the window, with Azzarello showing us exactly how he's going to tie all this together, with a sample encounter in that vein towards the end that leads me to think I've got the frame for the third book figured out in my head (I put it on hold immediately upon finishing this one, so I'll know soon if I'm right). This is a book that demands being picked up and read in one bite-- we begin to see how the relationships between the characters will shake out, who the big players are, how the pawns are going to move, all that sort of thing.
As with the last book, the artwork is dark, claustrophobic, even when it's daylight outside. Azzarello's use of dialect, relentless in the first book, is a bit less ubiquitous here, which helps matters immensely. And the pace, which was just a tad on the slow side in the first book, has kicked itself into very high gear. I'm glad there are eight books out in the series so far; if things keep up this way, I'll have read them all by the end of the month and be clamoring for number nine. ****
Series really begins to take off here.......2005-11-27
When I first dipped into the world of Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso's "100 Bullets", I have to confess that I wasn't immediately taken. I had picked up the first volume a year ago based on the strong word of mouth and was pretty underwhelmed by what seemed to be little more than an assortment of slang-ridden short stories centering on revenge. I didn't dislike it, I just felt like maybe the hype was a bit too much.
With "Split Second Chance," though, I'm starting to see where all the critical raves are coming from.
The cover blurb on this drew me back in with the promise that things were going to start to be tied together into a larger narrative. And in fact, that's what happens. We re-enter the world introduced on the first volume, a world in which wronged people are given an opportunity to seek vengeance with an untraceable gun that allows them to operate above the law. But unlike the first volume, here we begin to see that these acts of vengeance are tied together, with hints of something much bigger than the seemingly one-off stories of the first volume. Secret organizations, shady characters, and some looming conspiracy. Azzarello doesn't lay all his cards out on the table, but offers just enough hints so that you want to find out more. Top notch work. I'll probably be catching up with this series now.

And the ending is..........2007-09-23
I love Fern Michaels books, but this one was really strange. I think it was kind of ragged and left you hanging about too many things. You were given people in situations - and then they were gone. I feel she jumped from from thing to another with out a complete story. And the ending...I still can't figure out just where things stand at the end. The explosion came too fast and was glossed over , then the book was done.
This is just one to chock up to the WASTE list. Parts of it were good, but, overall, forget it.
Great book!.......2000-06-24
Split Second is another great one of Fern Michaels. You will sit down in read this in one setting and be glad you did.
Not Ms. Michaels' usual style. But that's not bad!.......2000-06-02
I have to disagree with the previous reviewer about Ms. Michaels book. If you don't read the entire book, how can you really review it? It is not a "teen" book. It is an adult book and the main character happens to be a teenager. Give it a try. As a Fern Michaels fan, it's not her typical work.
split second.......2000-04-06
I am very disappointed with this book and probably will not even complete it. It's a coming-of-age book that is not to be believed. The protagonist is a 17 year old girl who does crazy things with no apparent forethought. Granted, she is out of my age group, but I find her hard to believe. If you're an adult, don't bother with this one.
