Book Description
Genetic deafness affects 1 in 1000 children, and over the last decade several dozen of the responsible genes have been identified. This unique textbook aims to assist clinicians dealing with deaf patients and families by critically reviewing all relevant published material on genetics, pathology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and laboratory findings. Thoroughly revised, the Second Edition has been updated throughout and includes a new chapter on hearing loss with cardiovascular disorders. It continues with the successful formula of presenting separate chapters on deafness associated with findings in specific body systems. Careful attention to cross referencing between chapters means that the multifaceted clinical presentations of distinct conditions are highlighted. These clinical variations are complemented by excellent clinical photographs, audiograms, figures from essential laboratory or other investigations, and comprehensive reference lists. Gene mutations that cause deafness are highlighted throughout the text, both in chapters dealing with syndromes and in a vastly expanded chapter focusing specifically on nonsyndromic forms of deafness. Thus, the new edition reflects all the progress on the molecular understanding of deafness made in recent years and integrates these findings into clinical practice. It also makes an important contribution to the cataloguing of new syndromes that have emerged in recent years, such as HIDS and X-linked maxillofacial dysostosis.

My Favorite Book.......2001-05-05
It is the best book that exists for consultation on genetic syndromic hearing loss, since in very organized form it treats the audiologic aspects perfectly and genetic of these syndromes. It is my favorite book and I recommend it to you if you are geneticist or audiologist.

textbook- arrved- matched description.......2007-09-28
I'm pleased with the book, the condition, the price. I didn't ask for rushed delivery and it took about 2 weeks to arrive.
Great Book.......2007-09-28
This book is very easy to read and learn from. The CD is great for practice exams. I love it!
ICKY BOOK.......2007-01-20
As a speech pathology student who was required to take an anatomy class with this being the required text - this book was horrible. In each chapter there is sooo much missing information and holes and gaps in the information that it made learning anatomy that much harder. The only good thing about this book is that it comes with a helpful anatomy cd for the cdrom... i preferred the Netter anatomy book instead.
Great book, Great CD.......2007-01-04
This book helped me to get a great grade in my class. The diagrams and illustrations are very helpful. The CD-Rom is extremely helpful since it has color illustrations and quizzes in each section. I really advise all users to utilize the CD-Rom!
A wonderful, scientific voyage.......2006-10-10
This book offers a broad coverage of the underlying structures and processes of speech. Beyond a primitive stage, man is unique in his ability to convey information by using his voice. And he has developed this ability from systems designed for more vital goals (eg., respiration and nutrition). In this respect, the work by Seikel, King and Drumright proves a great resource for studying the entire apparatus involved in voice production and perception, specifically the systems of respiration (energy source), phonation (voicing), articulation and resonation filtering), mastication and deglution, hearing, and neural. Furthermore, it includes several appendices for quick access to anatomical terms, morphology of terms, muscles, sensors and nerves, and a review of pathologies affecting production of voice. What I liked the most about the book is that you are systematically guided through all the germane systems, and when pertinent, the book provides references for deeper understanding of the material. Besides, after you have read sufficient content, the book shows summaries for reinforcement of the learnt concepts. Also, there are clinical notes distributed throughout the text, with germane discussions (related processes, pathologies, etc.). And every chapter has a set of questions for assessment of your understanding (do not worry, answers are included!).
If you are concretelly focused on speech production, this book is a gold mine. They review the Source-Filter theory of speech production, and you can somewhat independently approach the excitation source and the filter ("shaping" of the source signal in the supraglottal airways). There is also an interesting discussion of the Central Control Theory and the Action Theory Model for coordinated articulation. Naturally, you will be presented a detailed list of muscles, and the qualitative effects of their contraction. Additionally, the CD-ROM includes the Anatesse software, useful for additional review of the subjects, and for self evaluation too! And finally, this is not your typical, dry textbook. On the contrary, it's a completely friendly, fun and professional intellectual product. Fully recommended.
Book Description
#1 bestselling author andwell-known speaker Joyce Meyer explains the ways in which God speaks- and teaches readers how to listen. In the hustle and bustle of today's busy world, sometimes it's hard enough to hear yourself think, much less to take a minute to stop and listen for the voice of God. But learning to recognize God's voice and the many ways in which he speaks is vital toward following his plan. In her book, Joyce Meyer reveals the ways in which God delivers his word-through signs, revelations, and internal confirmation-and the benefits of asking God for the sensitivity to hear his voice. By developing a tender conscience and attentive ears, readers will find peace and fulfillment as God governs each day, each step of the way.

Must Have Book!.......2007-08-01
I really love this book (and love the audiobook even more - because Joyce Meyer really gets the point across with her great personality)
I'm not even a Christian and I love this book. It will help you tap into your inuition and learn right from wrong.
Thank You Joyce for such a wonderful book!!!
Love the book, don't love Joyce reading it.......2007-04-24
Wow was I disappointed... I love to hear Joyce preach! I love to read her books! She is so anointed! And she always speaks to me. However, maybe it's just me, but this audiotape wasn't the same. When she read the book she wrote, I found it to be dry and without life. How to Hear from God is another of her great books! Please don't discount the book if you didn't like the audiotape of it being read. I won't get another tape of her reading her books. I'll just continuing listening to her teaching tapes, reading her books, and watching her programs on tv and online.
How to hear from God.......2007-04-19
This book and the study guide that goes with it are helping me understand the word of God. Daily study with these, and other materials from the Joyce Meyer library, is enriching my life. I highly recommend it to anyone, especially those who are studying the bible alone, as I am.
AWESOME.......2007-03-26
I love this book! Joyce Meyer is one of my favorite authors/speakers/teachers. This book will put you on the right track in learning to do what's necessary in your life so you can prepare for a true and meaningful relationship with God. If you want to know Him better and be led by the Spirit, then buy this book!
Inspirational and Enlightening!!.......2007-02-01
I have read many of Joyce Meyer's books and I really enjoyed this book the most and in my opinion a very enlightening book as it really has helped me with my relationship with God and how he truly corresponds with us.
This is a must if you want to Hear from God!!!
Book Description
A Formatio book. "God spoke to me.""The Spirit spoke to my heart.""God revealed the idea to me."Being close to God means communicating with him--telling him what is on our hearts in prayer
and hearing and understanding what he is saying to us. It is this second half of our conversation with God that is so important but that can also be so difficult. How do we hear his voice? How can we be sure that what we think we hear is not our own subconscious? What role does the Bible play? What if what God says to us is not clear? The key, says best-selling author Dallas Willard, is to focus not so much on individual actions and decisions as on building our personal relationship with our Creator. In this updated classic, originally published as
In Search of Guidance, the author provides rich spiritual insight into how we can hear God's voice clearly and develop an intimate partnership with him in the work of his kingdom.

Life Enhancing.......2007-08-23
I'm still reading this but it has already challenged me to surrender all for a closer walk with God. Day by day I'm doing that. And a new and greater intimacy between us is developing.
This is the 3rd book by Dallas Willard I've read in the past year. Each has had demonstrable impact on my thinking and being. But "Hearing God" has been the most accessible and the one I find easiest to put into practice daily.
Defending a Conversational Relationship with God.......2007-07-28
If I've bought a book entitled "Hearing God", I'm probably open to the idea hearing God is possible. The author spends over half of the book citing evidence that God can communicate with His children. The subtitle should be "defending a conversational relationship with God" instead of "developing a conversational relationship with God.
Practical, wise, and generous in spirit.......2007-05-17
This book, like Willard's others, offers a marvelous fusion of depth and practicality--simply put, wisdom. As always, Willard combines grace and a laserlike insight into the difficulties that beset us. He is neither pedantic nor simplistic, and Hearing God illuminates this too-often-confounding subject in a way that makes transformed practice irresistable.
You Don't Need Ears to Hear God.......2007-02-21
Renowned author Dallas Willard explains in nine chapters and an epilogue how it is possible for us to hear God, or, more specfically, how to develop a "conversational relationship with God." An essential element in developing that relationship is to "live in the will of God." In other words, we WON'T hear God if we approach his guidance just to make sure we are right or to make sure we will gain personal favor.
Willard also explains in his book that one of the primary reasons he wrote it was to help us distinguish between those who truly hear God's word versus those who may claim they are being guided by God, but who may be led by their own ambition. Even our so-called religious leaders are subject to such misdirection, and particularly valuable aspects of this book show readers how we might recognize the voice of God actually "talking" to us in contrast to our simply wishing we were conversing with God or imagining the same.
The key criteria for figuring out what God might be telling us are the "three lights." Willard explains that in determining what God's will for us might be, we need to compare what we think we hear from God to see if that message fits the circumstances of our lives, fits the promptings of the inner spirit, and is consistent with holy scripture. Willard provides readers a clear exposition of these lights and then goes on to describe, equally as clearly, the qualities of God's voice. One of those qualities is that God will not converse with us in ambiguous or vague language. Instead, he will tell us clearly what he intends. We won't need to guess at his intent or his message.
One of the most common ways God communicates with us is through an inner voice. It is a "voice" that we don't necessarily need ears with which to hear it, yet we need to remain still, to pay attention, to be patient, to be humble, and above all, we need to live a life of faith in God and committed to living in relationship with him.
Hearing God.......2007-02-03
I likes this book very much. I will look for more work done by this author.

Tye-Murray Resource for all!.......2007-08-02
Easy to read, understand, and apply. It reinforced what was taught by the professor, and will be a wonderful resource for me in the future as a speech therapist. Great strategies!
Good Resource.......2007-06-27
This book worked wonders in reinforcing what the professor taught in class. It helped in understanding many ambiguous concepts of aural rehab. It's definitely an additon to my library.
Even better than the first.......2004-09-18
Tye-Murray has bettered her first effort with this second edition of "Foundations of Aural Rehabilitation: Children, Adults, and Their Family Members." I used the first edition for my introduction to AR class for years, and find this one even more useful. The prose is interesting and clear, the graphics are very useful for teaching purposes. This is a text that I tell my students to hang on to and not re-sale to the bookstore. Once they graduate, they will return to it over and over again.

Customer Reviews:
Great book.......2007-09-17
I have a profesor who doesn't know the first thing about teaching. The only way I am surviving is by keeping up with this book. It is so clear. The only issue I have with it is that it doesn't always define the bolded key terms until a couple pages later.
It's what the title says..........2007-05-10
It's an introduction to audiology. If you're new to the discipline, then this is a pretty good starting point. However, it's not detailed enough for postgrad or research. For that I'd buy Katz's Handbook of Clinical Audiology or Roeser's Audiology Diagnosis.
GREAT.......2006-02-22
My order got here on the day specified when I ordered it. It was packaged great and everything was there that was supposed to be. SPEEDY and reliable.
Introduction to audiology.......2006-02-08
I just want to say that this text book is really easy to understand as well as to read. If some kind of uncertainty arises you can always refer to the CD that it comes with and it will help you understand the material in a more efficient and concrete way. I am happy with the text and I can now understand the science behind the hearing mechanism. I would recommend this text for the begginers with an interest to specialize in hearing and/or speech sciences.
A great start..............2002-02-21
I have a BS in Audiology and am going back for my Au.D -- and this book is excellent in bringing me back up to speed on the materials I haven't touched in nearly 10 years. It is concise (definitely not wordy) and hits all the basics, starting from the history of hearing checks to today's detailed technological miracles of testing. Could have a bit more of the anatomy, but other than that, it really is a great start for those wanting to enter the field of Audiology.

Great reference item. the book is well written and easy to follow. Highly recommended.
One of the best A&P books for SLPs!.......2000-08-30
This book was required reading in my graduate program and I am thrilled that it was! I have worked in both acute care as well as school settings and have found this book to be extremely helpful from both ends of the spectrum. An absolutely fantastic desk reference, especially in the acute care setting!
A good friend.......2000-08-15
I knew Mr. Zemlin personally when he lived in Brimson Minnesota. I saw the first edition when he first got it off the press and I was very impressed. Sorry to say that Mr. Zemlin has since passed away in 1998. His knowledge of a&p was far greater than any other person I have ever known.
I'm glad my professor chose this book for the class.......2000-08-10
This book is probably the best a&p book for the speech and hearing sciences. It is difficult to read at first, I will not life to you about that, but it is comprehensive, and you will learn a lot. What I like best is the book being divided into systems: respiratory, phonatory, articulatory, etc., because that is a good way to study, in systems, and then you can relate one system to another, and so on.
Book Description
In this landmark book, Dr. Teri James Bellis, one of the world's leading authorities on auditory processing disorder (APD), explains the nature of this devastating condition and provides insightful case studies that illustrate its effect on the lives of its sufferers.
Millions of Americans struggle silently with APD. For many of them, holding a simple conversation can be next to impossible. As sound travels through an imperfect auditory pathway, words become jumbled, distorted, and unintelligible. As Dr. Bellis notes, the most profound impact of this highly specific impediment to auditory comprehension may be on the young. Facing a severely reduced ability to read, spell, comprehend, and communicate, children with APD are subject to anxiety, academic failure, and a damaged sense of self. Often, they are misdiagnosed.
Discussing the latest and most promising clinical advances and treatment options, and providing a host of proven strategies for coping, Dr. Bellis takes much of the mystery out of APD. If you or anyone you know has difficulty comprehending spoken language, or if your child is struggling in school, this important book may have the answers you need.
Download Description
"APD has been called the auditory equivalent of dyslexia, and its debilitatiting effects cross all ages, genders, and races. APD can cause children to fail in school and adults to suffer socially and in their careers, but until now, there has been little information available. Written by Dr. Teri James Bellis, one of the world's foremost authorities on APD, this is the first book on the subject that is completely accessible to the public. Through helpful checklists and case studies, you'll finally discover the answers you need, as well as proven strategies for living with APD. Comprehensive and powerfully prescriptive, this book contains vital information for anyone who suffers from this serious disorder. "
Customer Reviews:
Excellent resource for parents!.......2007-08-11
I bought this book because my daughter was diagnosed as probably having Auditory Processing Disorder (she's too young to take the auditory tests yet). We were very worried that she might be on the autism spectrum but she is so social and doesn't do the stereotypical "lining up" or wheel spinning type play and she doesn't do any stims...it turns out that she has APD.
This book is a great resource. I've loaned it to her teachers at her regular preschool and her summer camp to help them understand how they can better help her. It's easy to read and understand and is SO helpful for understanding the nature of the problem. A definite buy for any parent whose child has APD or any teacher who suspects they have students with APD.
Better late than never........2006-04-11
It's taken a long time for this disorder to be recognized for what it is and it still has a long way to go in becoming more well known. The book is not an easy read, but then the disorder is not easily diagnosed either. Hopefully someone will write about Central Auditory Processing Disorders to suppliment this complex and intensive book for the sake of learning how to explain this highly unknown handicap to those who have trouble understanding that it is not a hearing loss problem but rather an auditory information processing difficulty.
Loved this book.......2004-06-09
This book is indispensible for the audiologist/SLP/parent/professional working with APD. I only wish we could have read this one BEFORE the text books in grad school..would have made much more sense. Very nicely written, presenting of scenarios was important...more info to assimilate to your childs difficulty. May of seemed cut and dry to some, but if it was not, you would be reading the unabridged version and toting it on wheels. Not everyone uses the same categorization strategy...but that is the beauty of research and ongoing learning...take some info from each and you are well rounded. Maybe those who chose to go only half way through the book and not PAST the case studies to the theraputic ideas are the same ones hoping for a quick remedy. This disorder takes time and patience and an informed parent. Good Luck..... challenges and good times are ahead. Thanks Terri for giving us all a small part of you....A fellow CCC-A
Read the Whole Book Before you Review It!.......2004-04-23
For the reader who said that this book is depressing, consists entirely of case studies, and provides no concrete information regarding diagnosis or, especially, treatment, I couldn't help but notice that you wrote your review when you had only read half of the book. Read on! You will find specific recommendations for diagnosis, understanding APD and its relationship to language and learning, and tons of treatment approaches that offer hope for children and adults with APD. The case studies serve to illustrate how these disorders affect people in the real world, and you may see yourself, your child, your parent, or your spouse in them. But this is the only book written for the layperson that really, truly does provide guidance that is scientifically sound from a world renowned expert in the field. Next time, please read the whole book before you review it!!
I agree with The Woj..........2004-03-30
I bought this book because it was the only book in the bookstore with any information on CAPD. I am only about halfway through it but I do feel that it's mostly case studies and it does seem like she is almost defending herself and her CAPD, by proving that it truly does exist, rather than what to do about treating it. My 8 year old son was recently diagnosed with a CAPD and this book has me frightened for his future. She lays out all the negative things that can happen to a child who grows up with a CAPD, such as distancing themselves from people for fear of being made fun of, lack of social skills, feeling stupid, or having trouble in their jobs. I know he has this CAPD, what I want to know is what I can do to help him not have these issues to deal with in the future. So far, I am doubtful that there will come a point in this book where I will get that information. I would not recommend this book to someone just getting familiar with CAPD. It seriously put me into a panic and depression about what type of life my child will have in the future. It focuses more on the negative aspects that could happen instead of treatment for CAPD. I am sorry I bought it and wish I could get a refund.

Book Description
Utilizing current natural resource policies, this work effectively shows how the wetlands fit a dominance model, the Great Lakes is a bounded model, and wildlife is labeled as a valence model. A must read for all interested in congressional policymaking, this book breaks new ground in our understanding of legislative policymaking.

Environmental Policymaking inn Congress.......2001-06-26
This is a great book if you are interested in how environmental policy is made in Congress. It is a sholarly book that also provides practitioners useful information about their impact on the Great Lakes, wetlands and wildlife. It is the most comprehensive piece of well researched and clearly written literature on environmental policymaking to date. The author is thorough in providing description with the book beginning in 1789-current. Certainly a must read for anyone who is a policymaker, student, scholar or has a serious interest in the environment.
