Book Description

Yarns made from plant fibers, modern synthetics, and silk take the spotlight in this collection of 21 classic knitting patterns for socks, scarves, hats, bags, vests, sweaters, and even a luxurious bathrobe. Some knitters are discouraged by the thought of baggy hemp sweaters and droopy cotton socks when they consider vegetable fibers, but this authoritative, fun, and light-hearted guide promises that, while wool has no equal when it comes to elasticity and warmth, the right tricks and techniques produce non-wool fashions that fit well, wear well, and hang beautifully. Knitters are taught to knit swatches to study the behavior of a yarn, to choose an appropriate pattern, and to master techniques for reinforcing stitches and inserting knit-ins of springier yarn to keep cotton, silk, and other fibers from sagging. Key information about durability, weight, pilling, and special handling is provided for acrylic, bamboo, cotton, hemp, Ingeo, linen, lycra, nylon, polyester, rayon, silk, soy, Tencel, and viscose yarns, and a chapter of helpful tips advises on needles to use (and avoid), how to start new balls and weave in ends, how to work intarsia and Fair Isle patterns, smart ways to control the cost of materials, and the right methods for washing, drying, and blocking the finished pieces.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful Resource for non-wool fibers.......2007-09-23

I love this book. I didn't think I would, but in the first chapter there is a detailed explanation of many fibers and how they are transformed into knittable goodness.

Amy Singer also talks about possible allergies - that sometimes it is the chemicals that are used to treat fibers that cause allergies. I learned a lot. I love Merino - don't get me wrong - but I am more likely to itch from it, and from any kind of wool. Before this book, I felt like I was a knitter-persona-non-grata. Not that I want to be -- just that I am of the 'wool and some acrylics can be itchy' camp.

The patterns are fun and different, and introduce a whole new way of thinking about knitting! Hooray!!

5 out of 5 stars Informative & inspiring.......2007-07-30

I picked up this book thinking, I don't need another knitting book -- but this is not just another book of patterns. I am not allergic, but I don't always love wearing wool (esp. in warmer weather). Her patterns are unique and interesting, and she has inspired me to just pick up things that might be interesting just to swatch. Ms. Singer has filled a gap in my knitting library.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting Ideas.......2007-07-08

I purchased this book mainly out of curiosity & to explore using other fibers than your normal wools, cottons, blends & synthetics. I haven't had a chance to actually read the book (we're a very busy family), but I found the patterns & the idea of using different natural & plant fibers to be very enticing. I consider myself to be an intermediate knitter, but because of time allowance, I prefer to stick to the simpler patterns that won't take as long to finish. I have become very good at adapting patterns to suit my own preferences. The yarns suggested in the book can be very pricey. I would suggest searching the fair trade market from such places as the Rain Forest Rescue Site, where recycled silk yarns & banana fiber yarns are available at a very reasonable price. Since I'm personally not in the position to spend a fortune on the expensive yarns, I prefer to substitute yarns with similar qualities or textures & I also try to stay as close to the gauge of yarn & needle size as possible. I'm no expert, but I always suggest to people - don't be afraid to experiment, have fun & if it doesn't turn out the way you wanted it to? Just learn from it! Start small, get a feel for it & go from there! Beautiful pictures & patterns! The book is worth adding to your personal library!

3 out of 5 stars Not enough patterns for bamboo yarn........2007-05-23

I purchased this book because I had recently purchased some silk and bamboo yarn. I found the technical information at the beginning very interesting. Amy Singer goes through the structure of each type of yarn in great detail including care of each yarn. What I did find disappointing was that of all the knitting patterns (and there are many in silk, hemp, linen etc) there was no garment made from bamboo (apart from small scarf). This was the only area I thought was lacking.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent reference for non-sheepy knitting.......2007-05-13

For those who can't/don't knit with wool or other animal-based yarns, or simply those who prefer cooler fare for summer knitting, No Sheep for You is an invaluable reference. Amy Singer gives a lot more than patterns (though the patterns are lovely). Her notes on the various types of fibers, their properties and how the construction of the yarn alters them, makes substituting these yarns in your own patterns much more doable. One star loss for a) not enough charting in the patterns (which echoes Knitty, Singer's on-line magazine), and b) rather hideously expensive yarns given in the patterns. I priced out the yarn as given in one of the sweater patterns at over $600, which is a good deal more than I'll be spending on yarn for one pattern in the foreseeable future. The information on yarn substitution is good enough to give me hope of finding more affordable alternatives, though, even if I have to spin them myself.

Book Description

The constraints of quiet widowhood have become too much for Lady Caroline Pearson to bear—especially now that her brother-in law has idiotically, and illegally, gambled away her house. Boldly, she confronts the new owner in person. But not only does the dashing rogue, James Ferrington, refuse to return Caroline's deed, he tries to take scandalous advantage of her as well.

Sheepish and repentant, James arrives on Caroline's doorstep to make amends— unaware that the young widow and her eccentric aunt are intent on retaliation. James merely meant to seduce a bewitching minx and have done with it—and, suddenly, he's a kidnapped prisoner in Caroline's cellar. But most shocking of all, James realizes that he has no desire whatsoever to be free—for the audacious Caroline has inflamed his senses, destroyed his reason . . . and completely captured his heart.

4 out of 5 stars Delightful! but completely unrealistic for the time period.......2006-07-14

This is a very interesting romance, unlike any I've ever read. It stretches regency convention to the extreme. So, if your a historical stickler -don't bother. This book is about Caroline, a widower who lives with her aunt, (an infamous mistress) who consorts with a group of women with less than stellar reputations. She (Caroline) attempts to get back the deed to her house which was lost in a card game by her unscrupulous brother-in-law. James, the hero and now in possession of the deed to the house, is a bachelor who is almost engaged to another woman. When they meet, sparks fly.

The things that happen in this book are completely unconventional and result in no repercussioons. For example: Caroline goes to Jame's home, unchaperoned and is discovered, but is she ruined? No! And that's just one of the mild ones. It didn't bother me because the story was so amusing with its twists and turns you sort of forget the time period, especially when James was kidnapped by the aunt and her crew. Hilarious!

If your not bothered by unconventional themes, you should try this one. The loves scenes are very well written and the ending is *sigh*. A fun read.

3 out of 5 stars entertaining but flawed.......2006-06-13

The pursuit for love may be eternal, but social values change. The acceptance shown to Aunt Minerva and her racy friends is as historically out of place as a zipper on a corset. Parents of daughters in a young ladies' school of the period would regard Minerva, and by association, Caroline, with more horror and less tolerance than modern parents would a known child molester living with one of the teachers.

The pacing is swift, occasionally to the point of being jerky; sometimes the characters seem to be moving in fast forward. The brother-in-law Freddie appears and disappears and seems to have little purpose in the book other than as part of an homage to the Georgette Heyer novel Faro's Daughter. The borrowed plot elements seem grafted on, instead of arising naturally out of the characters' personalities and motivations.

That said, the book is amusing and highly readable. If you don't object to (or if you even prefer) historicals consisting of contemporary characters in period costume, you will enjoy it.

Something that hopefully Amazon will fix -- as of this writing, 13 of the 18 reviews are repeats. It makes the rating misleading; two-thirds of the average is one person's opinion.

3 out of 5 stars The Cover and Title Are Quite Appealing..........2006-01-04

I have read a few novels by Cathy Maxwell this past year - Because of You (excellent), Treasured Vows (not bad), The Price of Indiscretion (pretty good), The Lady is Tempted (really, really good) and Falling in Love Again (my least favorite so far). I think this author is good at telling interesting stories and bringing characters to life.

This book, You and No Other, was fun as it profiled a 30 year old widowed woman with no children and that of a long standing confirmed bachelor. Caroline and James meet up and begin an interesting on again and off again attraction when her brother in law looses the deed to her house in a card game. The deed of course belongs now to James. Then it is up to Caroline to get it back so, she and her aunt and friends have a place to call home.
The interaction between the main characters is solid and believable.

I would have liked that James took a little longer to figure out how much he likes and loves Caroline as I felt he declared himself each time too soon. In turn, Caroline took a bit long to trust and learn to love James than was necessary. Like one of the critics, I felt the plot was busy in many ways and the main characters didn't get as deeply developed as I would have liked. Developments to the plot kept you busy but, it would have been preferrable to spend more time on the relationship, emotions and so on. The side characters of the aunt and her trio of society fallen friends is probably the most charming part of the book. The author did make the scandals each of these friends encountered look acceptable in a time when they would have stayed outcasts for all they did - not get accepted back to society as they did.

The humor is slight and simple but, worthy to note. Passionate love scenes are often few in Ms. Maxwell's books so, if that's what you need - this one isn't for you. If you like detailed stories with easy to follow and believable plots - this is a solid read.

Although I liked Because of You by far the most of all her novel series and The Lady is Tempted as second best, You and No Other still warrants some praise. I would have liked to give 3 ½ stars but, it's not an option. It wasn't quite to four stars standard. I look forward to other books by Ms. Maxwell as her characters are interesting, memorable and the story line always develops well. If you haven't read her yet, time to do so. She's a good choice. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Funny and Delightful.......2003-08-25

Cathy Maxwell always delivers a fun and delightful read, and You and No Other is no exception.

This action packed romantic comedy takes place over 5 days in London, mostly in the homes of the impoverished Lady Caroline Pearson and the rich James Ferrington. Caroline is a quiet but charming widow who yearns for more in life while James is also secretly lonely while he builds a shipping empire.

When Caroline's dissolute brother-in-law loses her house to James in a game of cards, the demure widow is forced to confront James to get it back. From there, her life is turned upside down, starting with James' need to pretend she is his cousin when unexpected visitors arise.

The supporting characters in the story are well drawn and delightful with all their machinations. Caroline and James are strong and likable. This is a great novel to laugh and love with!

5 out of 5 stars Fun, funny, with twists and turns of humor and love........1999-08-26

You and No Other is such a fun read. It has plot twists and outrageously lovable characters who make you want to keep reading. You can't wait to get to the end of the book, but you are sad to be finished with the fun. A great read.

Since 1986 New York based psychotherapist Marilyn Graman and Maureen Walsh have offered a weekend workshop entitled "Having What You Want With a Man" that has helped thousands of women find husbands and rewarding relationships. Now for the first time ever, the information presented in that workshop is available in a book! There Is NO PRINCE and Other Truths Your Mother Never Told You is a modern melding of traditional wisdom, post-feminist thinking and personal discovery that gently shows a woman what is in the way to her having what she wants in a relationship. This wise guide for women of all ages takes readers step-by-step through the process of preparing for, finding, choosing, managing and enjoying having a man in her life. There is NO Prince helps women get to know the enormous power they hold with their lives and with their men and overturns old ideas and wrong information about relationships, revealing secrets about men every woman should know.

Whether dating for the first time in years, moving on from a relationship that isn't right, or nursing back to health the relationship they are already in, women will discover
* the underlying issues that are keeping them from having the relationships they want
* practical, simple ways to shift and heal what isn't working and become irresistible
* that loving themselves is central to having what they want with a man.

There Is No Prince is Graman and Walshs' second relationship book in a series on the subject of having more of what you want in life taken from the technology and wisdom taught in workshops, seminars, retreats, intensives and individual sessions since 1984. Their first book, The Female Power Within: A Guide to Living a Gentler, More Meaningful Life was applauded by Arianna Huffington as "a ground-breaking exploration of the nature of women's power".

There Is No Prince is a truly liberating guide to a 21st century relationship.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Looking in a different mirror.......2007-02-11

This book is very clever. It helped me look at subconscious beliefs I hold about relationships and choose new steps to take to change them. It seems that after a few romantic experiences, most women begin to make generalizations about themselves and about men. The book helps the reader identify those and other pitfalls to forming a healthy, highly functioning relationship. I think so highly of the authors' approach, I actually flew to New York and attended their seminar, which was also revealing.

I have bought copies for friends who could use a little help. (It's more polite than pointing out things I see that might be causing them to fail to get what they want with a man). While no book is going to get you the results without effort, this book makes the steps clear, logical and practical. It teaches the reader to look at themselves differently and illuminates what may be blind spots. I recommend it highly to all single women who would like to find a long-lasting relationship.

5 out of 5 stars Required reading for women.......2004-03-06

One thing that is common among both men and women is that unconscious beliefs hold us back and often keep us repeating our mistakes over and over. There is no place this is truer than in relationships. "There Is No Prince" examines how a woman's unconscious beliefs may limit her relationships and keep her from finding the person who is right for her. For example, waiting for your prince to come and sweep you off your feet. Look inside yourself, honor and be true to yourself, find the right relationship with you and then find the right relationship with a man... or don't. You really do have a choice. This is an insightful guide to creating the relationship you want; "There Is No Prince" is a highly recommended read.

5 out of 5 stars This is the best guide on relationships I've ever read........2003-09-15

I LOVED how this book lead me through a step by step process of uncovering what it is I really want a man for and then preparing me to have him enter my life. I learned: how to become irresistible to a man; that loving myself is central to having what I want in a man; the best place to meet intelligent, successful men; how to know when to say no to a man who is not right for me; how to recognize and choose a man who is right for me. And so affirming and respectful of the relationship process.
For women like me who have had their hearts broken over and over again, following these steps will empower us to choose a man who is perfect for us. This book wisely guides us to "dismantle old romantic ideas about dashing princes on white horses coming to take us away". Included is the best information about how men really are that I've ever seen. I'm SO ready for this and am well on my way to 'man'ifesting a happy relationship!

5 out of 5 stars One Stop Shopping for Relationship Guidance.......2003-07-30

No Prince is a no-nonsense approach in helping unveil what is in your way to having the relationship you want. The book is written in a very conversational, approachable manner which is easy to relate to and digest. It's non-pedantic, non-preachy, user-friendly tone is threaded with first person stories making the relationship issue feel universal and and moreover an issue thatis healable and open to resolve.
It provokes thought and tilts your head to look at yourself and your future direction in a new light. I have referred to it and reread it several times. A must read for all women in search of a loving, realistic relationship.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous Information In this Book.......2003-07-25

The information in this book helped me get married, and is keeping my marriage on track. What is amazing about this book, is that my man doesn't have to do any work, and I'm happy. Pretty great, huh? My husband loves the effect of this knowledge - I'm much less critical of him and able to understand him. I recommend this work to everyone I meet!

5 out of 5 stars Saved my life and my marriage........2006-12-30

I originally took this book as a study class and it was AMAZING. I was truly convicted that I wasn't being the wife that God called me to be and that was ALL I could do to save and restore my marriage. This book makes you say, "why didn't I already KNOW that??!!" So honest and forthcoming plain old TRUTH. Sometimes the truth hurts and is hard to swallow, but once we put our human pride aside we are able to move forward in faith...and that's when God can work miracles.

Pride will be put away and your marriage will thrive!

5 out of 5 stars GREAT book on building a solid marriage.......2006-09-02

Classic Kay Arthur! No-nonsense Biblical wisdom on how to build and maintain a marriage that is both satisfying and God honoring. Kay's insights have been very helpful to my wife and I, and we give this book to couples as an engagement / wedding gift. This book is also a great tool for those who may already have some regrets in their marriage, and need help in overcoming obstacles that are preventing their marriage from being all that it can be. Personal reflection and lots of Biblical wisdom make this a great read, with lasting value.

5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend.......2005-09-11

My wife and I did Kay's book prior to getting marriage and really liked it. While some might have issues on some of the points in the book, Kay backs everything up with biblical references and it lines up with the word of God. We gave this as a wedding gift. This is the second set that we have given out as a wedding or engagement gift.

1 out of 5 stars UGH! Walked out of the Class.......2003-10-13

I took several of Kay Arthur's classes on various books from the Bible but advise you...don't waste your time with this course. After several sessions, I walked out of class due to the lies given on the subject. After speaking with several other Christian counselors, it is obvious Kay is still in need of healing, as portrayed by the contents of this course. There are still some issues that need to be resolved. I guess if you were brought up in a Christian home and overly protective, you would fall for the context. However, if you have any street smarts or experienced the secular world, before coming to Christ, you would be offended.

I do recommend her classes and books on specific books of the Bible and Spiritual gifts.

4 out of 5 stars A great read!!.......2007-05-01

The next brother in line to marry Morgan Grayson, His story is not as exciting as his older brother Luke but it still is very good. I love it Mrs. Francis Ray!!

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable.......2007-03-20

I didn't read any of the other Grayson novels, but you can best believe I'm trying to get my hands on every one of them now. I enjoyed the romance and the closeness of the Grayson/Falcon family and the friends that they included in the story. It was just a quick, sweet love story. Ruth Grayson is a woman who gets what she wants!

4 out of 5 stars Very Good Reading.......2007-03-11

This book is a good example of true love without there being alot of sex. It's good to feel like there are guys out there who really will fall in love with a woman for her and not for what she has to offer them sexually!

5 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL.......2007-01-09

I love Ms. Ray's work, she has never disappointed me. Unfortunately this was the first book I read in the Grayson series. When i ordered i didnt know it was in a series. I am in the middle of her next on Dreaming of You. I abosolutely love the Grayson family. Ms. Ray you have done it again, although it is not a surprise. If you are familar with her work, you know you will never be disappointed. I have yet to read a book that I didnt like (or cry in for that matter)!!!

4 out of 5 stars I enjoyed it too............2006-11-13

Lovely story, quite funny as well with the single Grayson siblings all trying to avoid their mother and Morgan spouting off 'I am not gettting married' ever so often. However the inevitable does happen and yes there are similarities with Surrender but there are enough differences to make the story its own. The Svengali character was a bit one dimensional but glad to see him get his comeuppance but I do get a bit irritated with heroines with no backbone but in this case Phoenix was quite young, only 19 when she had her unfortunate experience (read the book to find out what it is).

4 out of 5 stars A Skeptic Admits it Worked Beyond Her Wildest Dreams.......2007-04-13

I stared at this book on three different occasions before I shelled out the money and bought it in mid-February of 2007. I was convinced it would be useless, but I read it and applied some of the tips to my interview process for a senior level position with one of the toughest companies with which to land a job.

On March 29th, I was offered my dream job and nearly triple my salary at this company in the top ten of the Fortune 500.

It's not rocket science, but Fox touts the value of marketing oneself as you would a company or product. It requires a lot of hard work, but in my case, the results were almost immediate. The chapters are short and to the point, but rich with little nuggets of information from suggested questions to ask during an interview to checklists during the interview process. Following his recommendations, I walked into interviews knowing as much about the company as the people interviewing me and capable of branding myself as the best candidate for the position.

If I could give the man a hug, I most certainly would, because he just helped change my life.

4 out of 5 stars HELP WANTED !.......2007-03-26

-Be a fish out of water;
-No one cares what you like;
-Ask to do a demonstration;
-Don't talk in an interview; -"I" is a bad word.

Some of the information in this book has been offered before but we can all use reminders, can't we?

Author Fox does a capable job of reading his text in an encouraging, positive voice.

5 out of 5 stars Highly recommended!.......2007-02-02

For a book that tells you not to send a resume, the author spends an awful lot of time telling the reader how to write resumes (or "resu-letters") and what to do with them next. Don't be fooled by the clever title. Jeffrey J. Fox hasn't banned resumes, he simply wants you to understand how to write versions that will work for you. He explains what to do - and not do - to land a terrific job. In bite-sized chapters that get right to the point (in a book so small you could fit it into a leprechaun's briefcase), he guides you through job-hunting research, planning and marketing the product of you. Some of what he offers is innovative; some is standard, common-business sense. Even if you only dig out a few gems, we note that this is a fine place to begin your job search - and a very fine place for job search beginners.

Book Description

A Grief Like No Other is the book no one wants to ever have to buy; sadly, many people continue to need it. From 9/11 to Cindy Sheehan's son – from mass tragedies like the recent London bombings to Law and Order type crimes that make the news only to be replaced by another name. As such, more people are left with the aftermath of dealing with the violent death of a loved one. It brings its own special brand of grieving since victim’s families can spend years dealing with legal ramifications, guilt, and a myriad of other circumstances that don’t accompany “normal” deaths.

Kathleen O’Hara knows both sides of this coin. As a therapist, she has counseled hundreds of people dealing with grief. As a mother, she saw her worst fears realized when her college-aged son was brutally murdered in 1999. In the aftermath of Aaron’s murder, O’Hara developed the seven stage journey that is at the heart of A Grief Like No Other. Although this is a book for those left behind in the aftermath of violence, it offers concrete and practical steps and stages, allowing family and friends safe passage through this incredibly harrowing journey.

5 out of 5 stars My own experience with grief.......2006-05-31

I would recommend this book not only for those who are experiencing the horrific pain associated with grief, but also for those who love them. Many of my friends and family members have bought Kathleen O'Hara's book and have gained a better understanding of what I and my family are going through.
It was just over one year ago that our son was killed in action. Mother's Day, 2005. I have struggled to find the words to write, the things to say, a way to begin working through this terrible pain. After reading and re-reading A Grief Like No Other, I have been given such a gift. The book gives the reader tools to begin writing. Suggestions on how to deal with the overwhelming grief, examples of others who have lost someone to violence and how they feel. It gave me courage and hope.
The author writes about her own experience of losing her son to violence. She is an amazing woman. Her book is well worth reading and sharing with others.

5 out of 5 stars The Cambodian Holocaust.......2002-07-22

When I was younger I heard bits and pieces about Cambodia and Pol Pot in the news, but didn't really know what it was about. Through "Destroy You" I finally know about the horrendous and evil history that was being made in that country during the 70's and 80's. This biography follows the story of one particular educated Cambodian family who was exiled from Phnom Penh, along with the entire city full of inhabitants. The Khmer Rouge was doing its job of "cleansing" the city of anything of western influence. Most of the educated populace, including doctors, teachers, lawyers, etc., were murdered, leaving a population of mostly uneducated slaves whose job was to work in the rice fields all day long. Music, laughter, and play were not allowed. The people were taught that everyone was of equal value and equally dispensable, and everyone should work hard to contribute to the good of all with the meekness, acceptance, and fortitude of the water buffalo.

Meanwhile, entire villages were massacred if complaint about the government was overheard. Life was incredibly miserable, especially knowing of friends and relatives that had been killed or had disappeared. When Viet Nam invaded Cambodia tens of thousands of Cambodians attempted escape to Thailand, but Thailand did not want them all, and forced many back at gunpoint, killing anyone, including children, who refused to climb down the treacherous, land mine-studded cliff back into Cambodia. Throughout this book I was grieving about the incredible evil that humans can perpetrate against other humans, and amazed at the endurance and determination of this family and others that managed to survive all this horror.

A story like this can yank us out of any tendency towards self-pity or complaining about the minor difficulties in our lives. I have also read the follow-up book, "Bamboos and Butterflies", about this family after they immigrated to the U.S. Their will to survive is carried on as they integrate into a new culture, and reminds us of why so many seek refuge in the U.S.

5 out of 5 stars A frightening, moving and important story.......2002-01-05

Joan Criddle has woven a gripping account of the personal experience of one young woman, Teeda Butt Mam, and her family under the oppression of the Khymer Rouge. Although I knew a little about Cambodia's killing fields, this book reveals in considerable detail the brutality and horror of Pol Pot's regime. Yet, it's an inspiring tale of survival, courage, and family loyalty under the most extreme conditions of deprivation, fear and suffering. I couldn't help but wonder if I would have had the strength, ingenuity and willpower to survive such horror. The book also includes many interesting details about traditional Cambodian life and culture.
I highly recommend this book. It's an amazing story!

5 out of 5 stars Buy it!! it is very good.......2004-04-30

The issue is that there are times when we say yes when we really want to say no.

The example given clearly falls in place if you have personally felt the pinch of saying yes when you wanted to say no. It takes a little time to practise it. The handbook should have been with it to make a practical book a part of a daily routine.

Buy it since you will need to be reminded about it!!!

5 out of 5 stars Good eye-opener!.......2003-07-21

One of the books I read in my beginning of professional life to improve myself. The inspiration was my room-mate that time (I forgot his name) who was having this book. As I was a soft guy (now also I think), I was finding it difficult to survive sometimes in a tough environment. Indeed the book was a good eye-opener and I could find myself getting improved. Certain thoughts were really astounding: You have to be assertive and aggressive depending on what the situation warrants.

The practical application of what was discussed in the book was when I went to the canteen in my company to have food when I was working late hours. Although it was my mistake to go late for food, the cook said that the curry got over but I was really aggressive enough to demand for an alternative. I patted my shoulders myself for my behavior.

Really a book worth reading once. Good eye-opener.

5 out of 5 stars Best book for Assertiveness Training.......2002-11-13

this is one of the best book of my life.I read this along with "How to Win friends and influence people" by D. Carnegie and felt great. It is really really a great book, very practical.
If u can practice the exercises adviced here (ie, going to a shop and ask for a change without buying anything), you would surely become a confident person.

best luck!

4 out of 5 stars Very useful - for standing up for yourself, in a daily life.......2001-12-19

I found this book, very useful. To some extent, it helped me to
shape my character. I feel stronger now, while dealing with tricky issues, both at work and with friends. Try to finish the whole book and be patient. You should try to use some of the techniques in real life, to see any change. You will have a chance to understand that being humble, all the times, doesn't necessarily make you are a nice person. You should respect yourself first, before expecting some one would respect you.

1 out of 5 stars Better Solution.......2001-11-29
