Book Description

When she was good, she was very, very good. . .
When Emma Frasier returns home to joyful, Georgia, she's greeted with the kinds of winks and lusty grins one might offer. . .an adult film star?

But when she was bad. . .
Thanks to small-town gossip and citizens who clearly need to get a life, Joyful's residents think Emma Jean is the "famous star" building a strip club in town. And that her barely concealed. . .uh, attributes are the ones gracing the new interstate billboard.

She was better.
As if being taken for a blue movie queen isn't rattling enough, there's Johnny Walker, the local bad boy turned good-a man who tempts Emma to be just as wild and wicked as Joyful thinks she is.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Hilarious from beginning to end. First time I've read this authors books. I plan on reading more of them.

4 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2006-03-01

This is the first book that I've read from this author and by far it didn't disappoint. The book was so well written and comparable to author's Jennifer Crusie or Carly Phillips. The book flowed well and it really drew you into the characters. The book had some sensual parts along with a few spots that got me laughing out loud. I'll be picking up the next book of her's in this series.

4 out of 5 stars Very entertaining!.......2005-06-09

This was a fun book, with "I Love Lucy" kind of slapstick humor, updated for current times with lots of sex. It read kind of slowly, with lots of crazy misunderstandings centered around the community mistaking Emma for a porn star without her realizing it, and twisting the meaning of everything she innocently said into something absurdly sexual. I think probably would have been even better (more interesting and easy to stick with) had it been a shorter book with some of this craziness editted out.

It took a while to get to the actual substance of the story and sort out all the issues between Emma, Johnny and the misuse of her grandma's pecan orchard. Both characters were very likeable, if only they communicated better and more directly. Johnny was someone I warmed up to from the very first page.

Around page 190-200, there was one very sensual "cooling-off in front of the air-conditioner" scene was just WOW!

4 out of 5 stars Crazy, good fun!.......2005-03-29

A seductive, lazy Southern setting combined with the reallistic modern love & life problems of todays women make this story. Don't get me wrong it's not a sappy story you see Valerie Burtonelli in. It's edgy and witty with plenty of steam generated by the main characters Emma Jean and Johnny.
Because of a misplaced assumption in the local gossip grapevine, everyone in Joyful, GA assumes Emma Jean is a porn star whose just returned to there town after a long absense. It doesn't hurt that she left after an embarrassing nudity incident with the local bad boy heart throb. Blissfully unaware of the rumors, Emma Jean only ends up feeding the flames of embarrassment through her own behavior, especially when she's around Johnny Walker. And every time Johnny sees her he just wants to grab her and bite her in unmentionable places.
Combined with several who done it mysteries, a cast of sparky secondary characters, and an interesting new idea on how to eat pie this book is a definite winner. Look for the next book in this series in September!

5 out of 5 stars Kelly's an author readers can count on! .......2005-03-19

Pecan pie, golden butterflies, and wild Walker men combined make for one heck of a sexy read. When Emma Jean Frasier returns to Joyful, Georgia, the entire universe begins to tilt on its axis for the citizens of the nosy little town. The dialogue in this book is so perfectly in sync with the way I envisioned each character, that I was sad to finish the book. I just didn't want to walk away from a couple as fun as this one. This book reads the way my girlfriends and I talk. It's brash and modern. Emma Jean is a woman we'd all like to have on our speed dial, and of course any woman would be lucky to have a carbon copy of Johnny Walker about. Nick's story hits shelves in September '05, and you can BET I'll be rushing to get my copy.

3 out of 5 stars Just Okay.......2007-08-23

I never really liked the main character. I couldn't relate to what was going on in the story. I couldn't understand the decision-making processes of the characters at all. I felt like the author was reaching for big words to impress the reader. I felt like the placement of crossword puzzles in the book to incorporate big words to make the character seem smart, even though he's an ex con, was kitschy. I enjoyed the accurate references to Atlanta and Los Angeles. I give it 3 stars and will move on to another book.

3 out of 5 stars Not What I'm Used to.......2007-05-01

This book was not what I expected from EJD, in fact I expected a whole lot better. It wasn't as good as his first books (Cheaters, Milk In My Coffee) Hope the next one is better.

5 out of 5 stars Loved it! .......2007-04-09

I have read all of Mr. Dickey's books with the exception of Thieves Paradise. I have to say that his writing style has changed from when he first started. There were some books that I had to raise an eyebrow on, but this one was not! I absolutely loved this book! More than that, I loved the way it was written. Some people can't get used to his change, but I love it and can't wait for the new one to come out!

4 out of 5 stars EJD Switches Up!.......2007-03-16

As a serious E. Dickey fan, it's good to see him switch up from books that are primarily relationship driven, and step into the realm of crime-drama. I think it was a smart move, which showcased the variance of his writing talent.

Earl a.k.a. Driver was a great character who I couldn't help but love. Baby is definately and bona fide MAN to the nth degree!!!!!! And the way Dickey re-introduced, Panther from his "Naughty or Nice" in this story was awesome. He gave her some much needed depth and redemption. Together she and Driver made a winning combination.

To sum it up, DMC is a suspenseful story of lust, betrayal, jealousy, and desperation just to name a few. It's a page turner that will keep you wondering how in the hell, Driver is going to get out of the mess he's in. Especially, since he only has 3 days to do it and the time is ticking FAST!!!!

The third book of poetry that Ms. Esselman and Ms. Velez have put together, YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY can help anyone once again believe in the power and redeeming force of love. Whether newlyweds, heading towards your golden anniversary, or gripped in the claws of new love with a significant other, these poems are for you.

From Shakespeare to Neruda, from e.e. Cummings to a poet named Rumi, YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY tackles every aspect of love and lays it bare. A testament to true love in VALENTINE segues into the daily lives of a couple caught in a lull in APEX PLUMBING. You can be thrown into that frenzied feeling of new love and sexuality in I WANT, then tossed back into the sea of heartache with FINDING IS THE FIRST ACT.

I am the first to admit that I don't know all the ins and outs of poetry. I don't know the structure with which true poems are put together; I haven't a clue as to what makes a poem a poem. What I do know, however, is that love is glorious thing. It's also the most painful emotion that a human being can suffer. In this book, you can live through the range of emotions that we all experience every day-longing, need, understanding, misery, and hope.

YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY is for the woman who knows that Hallmark cards aren't for real people. There are no cards to say "Gee, I'm sorry your kid got kicked off the basketball team," or "Oops, guess that comment I made about husbands who pick their noses in public wasn't so funny after all." This book is for me, for you, for everyone who knows that the good always comes with the bad, that baggage is generously included with your lover, and that being imperfect isn't, after all, necessarily the end of the world.

5 out of 5 stars The ebb and flow of love..........2007-02-21

Love Poems for Real Life seems to have been created for couples in a long-term relationship. The poems are arranged according to how the authors see love's initial passion and then how this ebbs and flows over time.

At first the poems radiate an intimacy that contrasts sharply with a desire for distance later in the book. The lovers express such sweet concepts as in E.E. Cummings "I carry your heart with me."

Later, Dorothy Parker displays her sardonic wit in the last line of a love poem - that feels more like elation and frustration. It seems she is depressed at the time and nothing is bringing her joy, so she writes of the sweetness and then throws in a line or two about how she wishes she had never met her lover who seems to live with sunny skies. After reading about her life, we know there were some storms, but was anyone listening?

I loved Al Zolynas' "The Zen of Housework." It is brilliant in the way it presents visual images for contemplation. Anna Akhmatova's "I Wrung My Hands Under My Dark Veil" is also stunning in beauty and emotional implication. Carolyn Creedon's poem shows great sarcasm and Sylvia Plath takes the cake for misery:

"The moon, too, abases her subjects,
but in the daytime she is ridiculous.
Your dissatisfactions, on the other hand,
Arrive through the mailslot with loving regularity,
White and blank, expansive as carbon monoxide.

No day is safe from news of you,
Walking about in Africa maybe, but thinking of me."

Margaret Atwood's poem "Habitation" seems to define this book as it explores the idea that in love, we are always at the point of "learning to make fire." The passion of the initial poems mellows into a nourishing comfort.

Mary D. Esselman and Elizabeth Ash Velez are careful observers of popular culture and of the daily lives of the seemingly typical love relationship in modern society. In their introductions to each chapter, they explore the ideas of Ecstasy, Stability, Monotony, Uncertainty, Misery and Clarity. Their commentary on the poems makes for interesting reading and makes the book feel more personal and ultimately more emotionally fulfilling. Most of the poems in this collection were new to me, so that was a delicious surprise.

4 out of 5 stars An entertaining poetry collection.......2007-01-18

"You Drive Me Crazy" has a broad variety of poems from various time periods, styles, and themes, all revolving around the central theme of "real-life love". The introductory notes at the beginning of each section help to set the mood and even explain the poems, which I found very helpful.
My only complaint about this book is that the collection was perhaps TOO varied. There were several chapters that i felt were not suitable for this book, but rather for one of their other books on lamenting about love. I purchased this book in the hopes of getting some inspiration for writing a quirky but romantic "real life love" poem, and really only found the first section useful. However, overall it IS an entertaining book filled with some great works, so unless you want this book for the same reason that I did, I highly recommend it!

Grade: B

4 out of 5 stars Delightful.......2005-08-05

I stumbled upon this book at the library was quite pleasantly surprised. The poem selections are clever and inspiring. Each chapter introduction is subtle, straighforward, and insightful. This little book manages to be "poetic therapy." I enjoyed it so much that I plan to add it to my personal library.

Book Description

TZ Blake inherits All Tune and Lube from her Aunt Elise. Unfortunately, it comes with numerous debts. TZ must raise the money, and quickly, before she loses the shop to her creditors. The tight butt contest at Chugger Charlie's is the perfect solution. But when she ties for first place, she's still in need of cash. Rally driver Cade Nyland is a judge at the tight butt competition. Being notified that his original mechanic broke his leg in a skiing accident places Cade in desperate need of hiring someone new. When TZ hires herself out as his mechanic, he believes the race to be won. While TZ cannot read a road map, she is good at solving the riddles that get them from checkpoint to checkpoint. It's the SunCoast Run, a four-day race across balmy Florida, and Cade and TZ are stuck with each other in the close quarters of a vibrating '67 Mustang with a mind of its own. All factors indicate that the unlikely duo are in for a bumpy ride. Warmed by the Florida sun, Cade and TZ fall a little off course and a lot in love.

5 out of 5 stars Crazy Fun!.......2006-10-31

I bought this book because I had read her Squeeze Play and loved it. I loved this one too. It is fast paced. Nothing drags. The dialogue and the characters are great. It's a great read.
Cade Nyland comes to the local bar looking for TZ Blake. Cade is a road rally racer and needs a mechanic for his car. He is shocked to discover that not only is TZ NOT a man, but she is currently competing in front of him in the bars Hot Buns contest.
Tz had inherited an auto shop, a possessed Mustang and a ton of debt from her aunt. So when Cade offers her a lot of money to be in the car during the road rally, she accepts.
I don't want to give away a lot of the story, but things get crazy. There are a lot of laughs in this story, from the main characters and the supporting ones.
An excellent read.

`Drive me Crazy' by Kate Angell (www.kateangell.com) is novel about a four-day car rally race across Florida with a mix of three romances, a ghost, splash of mystery , a tight butt contest and classic cars. This is a fun light beach read and will leave you with a smile on your face. This is my second Kate Angell book and I am looking forward to her to reading more. I would also suggest checking of the following authors, Ellen Byerrum, Elin Hilderbrand, and Marlys Millhiser. ENJOY!

4 out of 5 stars Good but not the best.......2005-04-05

I first saw this book on the RIO web site because it won an award for best contemporary. So, I checked out the reviews and thought I was missing out on something. So, I got the book, read it and now I wonder if I am still missing something. Im not complaining about this book at all. I thought it was funny and well paced. It had good characters and dialouge (for the most part) It's just at times the story was almost silly. Not funny silly, like made-for-kids-silly.
I know I am the minority here, but I dont think that this is the best book I have ever read, even out of one year. Even if I do read hundreds, this one goes into the good category, but not my keepers. Its not even very memorable for me, I read it over the weekend and forgot most of the story already. So, while I may sound like I am bashing (I am really not)Maybe the reviews built up my expectations to think that I was going to read an amazing mind blowing book. While this book is good and funny and entertaining, its not the best I have read. I just want to let people know that it is a really good book, but in my opinion, not the best. I do recomend it and you will enjoy it, it justmight not be a keeper for you, like it is not for me.

5 out of 5 stars This author has a new fan in me!.......2004-10-14

Cade Nyland was furious when a lady put a dent in his classic black Sting Ray. He was determined to win his twelfth road rally race of the year. All he needed was to hire a mechanic to ride along side him. Word had it that TZ Blake was the best. But Cade thought TZ was a male. WRONG!

TZ Blake entered the tight (...)competition to win enough money to keep her auto repair shop open. She ended up splitting the prize money with her friend, Kimmie, and getting a high paying position as Cade's navigator in the SunCoast Run for four days. Due to someone tampering with Cade's vehicle, they take to the read in TZ's '67 Mustang ... and the 'Stang has a mind of its own.

Kimmie has her heart set on another rally racer, Rhett, and finances him in exchange for allowing her to tag along. And they aren't the only two odd couples in this race. Add to this that someone out there was playing for keeps. The SunCoast Run was being sabotaged big time. They way things are going no one might win this race!

***** Great story! I'm not a big auto fan, but I was hooked to the story from the first page. The author has a witty sense of humor and plainly shows throughout the entire book. A fast paced book, with spectacular secondary characters, and lots of laughs. Excellent! *****

5 out of 5 stars a fun time!.......2004-10-01

I used to do car ralleys and they were blast, so when I saw this book was using that as the story line I was excited, though not sure how romance on wheels can bloom. I must say Ms. Angell not only is 'hell on wheels', she sizzles in the romance department, too. But the strongest thread is the humor of this tale.

I'm placing an order for Cade and the 'Stang both! Every gal needs them!

5 out of 5 stars Great job of contextualizing the gospel.......2006-02-08

As the previous review said, this book is much better than the cover or the title lets on. Sweet has another brilliant book in which he explores the incarnation and the contextualization of the gospel. I will include a couple meaningful quotes.
"The Church opposes biological cloning, but practices spiritual cloning with particular relish and finesse."
"One of our problems is that we have failed to be as good at cultural exegesis as we are at biblical exegesis. We are better at God-Talk than God-Walk in this new culture that is aborning."
"Very early in the Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Frodo says he wishes the master ring had not been found in his lifetime. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to seen such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

I definately recommend this book to those seeking to live out the gospel in their present world.

5 out of 5 stars So much better than the title or cover let on..........2005-11-26

Leonard Sweet is one of the most important Christian voices speaking to the church today. I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Sweet speak on the topic of "Being There" a year or two before, and when I heard that he was taking that subject and expanding it into a book, I was quite excited.

When I actually found the book, the title and cover threw me for a loop. "Jesus Drives Me Crazy?" Dropping a can of nuts on the ground? Hmmm... Second thoughts started creeping into my head. However, based on the power and message of what I'd heard Dr. Sweet say, I went ahead and bought it. I was so glad that I did...

Thankfully, the book itself is just as good, if not perhaps even a little better, than I had hoped, and Dr. Sweet even expanded it from "Be There" to "Be There With All." The concept of "being there" - knowing your face (character) and knowing your place (context) - is something that every Christian needs to hear and take to heart. Even though it's now been four years since I heard Dr. Sweet speak, and a couple of years since I first read this, the message still rings in my head as loud and as clear as the first time I heard it.

God bless Leonard Sweet for having the courage to use his God-given character in our seemingly God-forsaken context, and being a voice that God has used to bring about change in my life. Read this book, and see how God challenges you to be there with all...

Annie Parks came to Hawaii to gather information and settle a score, not spend time handcuffed to a sexy stranger's bed. Okay, so this particular stranger saved her from drowning after she was pitched overboard by some goons. And he's about six feet of hard, Hawaiian muscle and gorgeous cool that's making forgotten parts of her say, "A-lo-ha!" She needs to stay focused, but a side dish of Kane Travers is awfully tempting.

Kauai Police Chief Kane Travers is not a vacation kind of guy. So it figures that when Internal Affairs suspended him, he'd end up rescuing a sarcastic, dishonest, extremely hot redhead who is clearly hiding something. Amnesia? Yeah, right. Kane's got half a mind to give Miss Whoever She Is something she'll never forget. His cop senses tell him that the lady's in deep and needs his protection. But how can he get her to tell him anything when all he wants is to take her home and do everything?

5 out of 5 stars Smoking Hot and Funny.......2007-08-13

Helen Kay Dimon has written a funny, hot and sexy story in Your Mouth Drives Me Crazy.

Police Chief Kane Travers is forced to take a vacation when charges of wrongdoing are circling around him. Kane has gotten bored after only a few days. That is until he finds a naked woman barely breathing on his stretch of Hawaiian beach.

Annie Parks has come to Hawaii to find the man who scammed her mother. She was so close to the man until she was thrown overboard a yacht out in the ocean. Annie is grateful to be alive but not so happy to be the prisoner of the Police Chief.

Kane slowly gets some of the story out of Annie and this sets off a chain reaction that is connected to the case that forced Kane's vacation. Kane has his hands full trying to keep Annie safe and keeping the danger away from his family.

Kane and Annie's road to romance in paradise is filled with sassy and witty dialogue. Their chemistry leaps off every page. They snap and sizzle in and out of the bedroom.

Your Mouth Drives Me Crazy is a true find. I strongly recommend this book to every romance reader. It's a gem.

Another new contemporary writer--hooray! This is a quick-witted, fast and enjoyable read set in a new locale--Kauai! The setting descriptions and discussions of the real choices the locals have, inform the reader that the author knows her setting. The male lead is a charmer but rather than another overwhelming Alpha male--he seems more regular guy who would rather solve a tricky puzzle game involving a mysterious half-drown naked lady, than spend some vacation time relaxing. Secondary characters are interesting but the plot has some weaknesses with the villian--who comes in so late to the story we don't care anymore. Can't wait for the next book from this great new writer--hope she does some more set in the REAL

Helen Kay Dimon turns up the heat with Your Mouth Drives Me Crazy!

If you like your romance sexy, sassy, and a little sweet, you'll love this book. Dimon strikes just the right note with her smart-mouthed heroine, Annie Parks, and hunky hero, Kauai Police Chief Kane Travers. I've read several romances that use the Hawaiin islands as a backdrop, but never one with a native Hawaiian hero. Dimon's insights into this unique culture are spot on, the dialogue sparkles, and the sex scenes are crazy hot! It's apparent that Dimon truly loves all things Hawaiian, and that's what romance is all about.

If you're looking for a fast, enjoyable, SIZZLING summer read from a writer who gets it right, look no further than Your Mouth Drives Me Crazy by HelenKay Dimon.

Kane Travers is the police chief of Kauai in Hawaii. Placed on suspension by his superiors, he is slowly going nuts during this so called `vacation'. While wandering on the beach, he comes across a lovely nymph that has washed up on his beach. She's red haired and stunningly beautiful, so Kane does what any other law-abiding citizen would. He brings her back to his house and handcuffs her to his bed.

Annie Parks knows she is in trouble when her gaze meets that of a hard bodied, enigmatic stranger. Six feet tall and purely gorgeous as only native Hawaiian men can be, Annie knows she is in trouble. Feigning amnesia, she figures he will take her to the hospital and then go on his merry way. Annie could not be more wrong because not only is he stubborn, but he is an officer of the law as well. She doesn't have time to be waylaid by Mr. Dreamy, she has a vendetta to accomplish and he is just in her way.

Knowing that his handcuffed dream girl is lying through her teeth, Kane vows to get to the bottom of her showing up unconscious on his strip of beach without clothes and identification. He has no idea that his suddenly boring life will become more exciting than he ever thought possible.

HelenKay Dimon is a genius. Witty repertoire, stunningly sensual overtures and just plain good writing, she captured my attention from the first page of Your Mouth Drives Me Crazy until the last page was read. Annie and Kane's banter back and forth made me laugh out loud more often than not and their love for each other, once they finally admitted it, was just the perfect ingredient needed to make this book a truly enjoyable read.

Your Mouth Drives Me Crazy is the first work I have read by this author but it won't be the last. I can't wait to go back and read her other books. For a fun, quick witted and steamy romance, you can't go wrong with Your Mouth Drives Me Crazy. Now if only Kane's interfering and nosy nephews could have their own stories my life would be complete!

When Kane Travers finds a beautiful stranger washed up on his beach unconscious and very naked, he jumps into rescue mode without skipping a beat. It's all part of his job as Chief of Police in Kauai. But handcuffing her to his bed is not...

Annie Parks finds herself in quite a predicament when she wakes in the arms of the hunky but distrustful police chief. He seems to have a knack for discerning just when she isn't exactly telling the truth, and he doesn't like it. Still, being handcuffed to his bed is much better than sleeping with the fish, and does have its own benefits...

She came to Kauai seeking revenge, but when the object of her fury proves to be a bigger villain than she suspected, she must tell Kane her whole story, trusting him to help her not with her previously planned vengeance, but merely to stay alive!

HelenKay Dimon's romance novel Your Mouth Drives Me Crazy was a wonderful introduction for this reviewer to Ms. Dimon's work! Not having read this author previously, I was not sure what to expect, but found myself intrigued by the synopsis of this story. Upon reading an advance copy of this book, I found I was far from disappointed!

The book's heroine, Annie Parks, is a sassy, strong and undeniably intriguing character. It is no wonder the hero has a hard time letting her go, even when she is driving him bonkers with unmistakable lies and half truths. See, Annie did not exactly come to the Kauai island of Hawaii for the most upstanding of reasons, and telling the Chief of Police does not strike her as the smartest way to handle her current jam. Then again, the handsome Hawaii native is not exactly telling her everything either...

Kane Travers is a veritable boy scout, with a heart of gold and the most honorable of intentions. Of course, that honor does not prevent him from lusting after the beautiful little liar he finds himself stuck with. Kane is an intriguing hero - an upstanding guy with a heart that has been closed off, afraid to love and lose again. Yet he believes in love and family with every fiber of his being, and longs for that which he believes he cannot have.

Dimon weaves an intricate suspense plot with the romance, providing plenty of surprises near the end complete with some tension filled action scenes. Your Mouth Drives Me Crazy is a fun romantic romp that will have you laughing, biting your nails, and leave you ultimately satisfied with a neat little happy ever after!

    5 out of 5 stars getting real w/ kids.......2006-04-04

I don't usually review books that I am selling on amazon, but this book deserves it. I feel like it addresses so many issues that ADHD families suffer through. It talks about school performance, school assistance, medication, doctors, behavioral modification charts (that can be copies out of the back of the book for later usage.)

The text is well researched w/ an extensive bibliography. The format of the book is easy for kids to understand. I think this book could bring a lot of relief to kids and their families.

4 out of 5 stars Really enjoyed it.......2006-07-28

Anna Terry and Nick Diamond meet in all places:Their divorce lawyers office. After a few days they meet again. Anna is working at Nick's car lot. Clearly there is some attaction between the two, but first they got to deal with their ex's, who keep showing up. But maybe these two have a chance.
"You Drive me Crazy" was the first book that I have read by Carole Matthews and I really liked. The main reason that I like it is that the characters were real to me and someone I can relate too. Can't wait to read more.

3 out of 5 stars ah... (below) average characters, story........2005-12-01

It's one thing for the characters to be average, or even below average, but it's another if the writing style doesn't compensate and turn it into something beautiful. I stuck it out and the ending was decent, but the story was tedious and plain. I was all excited at first that this wasn't going to be about chiselled jaws and perfect lives, but as I stated before, Ms Matthews did not make up for the averageness in her storytelling.

Basically, Anna meets Nick in the offices of a divorce lawyer. Both make an impression on the other, and coincidentally end up working together. Their ex-es make reappearances in their lives, and both try to make it work, although I'm just left wondering why. There is a subplot about how to reconcile happiness and marriage, and whether tediousness and insensitivity can be overcome within the marriage or by turning outside of the marriage. Everyone finally comes to their senses, with the ending neatly tying itself off (roughly).

    5 out of 5 stars Very Sexual.......2006-12-05

Drive Me Crazy by Nancy Warren is a great mix of mystery and two great romances. Duncan is in search of stolen painting and finds the last known link being a very hot librarian brings him to his knees. If you enjoy this genre, I would also suggest Glory Days by Irene Peterson, The Ice House by Minette Walters and Squeeze Play by Kate Angell.

    5 out of 5 stars well done.......2006-04-10

I really enjoy Nancy Warren's work. One reviewer said that Ms. Warren needed to research for her book because librarians need master's degrees, but Ms. Warren said exactly that within the first few pages of the book. I think Nancy gave her characters solid characterizations and motivations. Her work is sexy and fun.

    1 out of 5 stars Stereotypes.......2006-02-28

I was ready to devour Warren's novel, Drive Me Crazy, but the characters were stereotypes and the writing was just so-so and soured quickly. How many times to I have to read about Duncan looking like a man who spent time in the sun? Sheesh. Also, Warren may have wished to do some research on librarians before writing about them. Librarians must have a master's degree to do their work. It is not beneath Alex to take the job. Many are young, hip, and even like to wear leather. She's portrayed as a tightly wound spring just waiting to be unsprung, but she just seems brittle. Also, Goosebumps would not likely be shelved in Dewey Decimal order. Other meaningless little things that made the book seem annoying and the work so someone who doesn't spend much time in a library.

4 out of 5 stars Steamy comedy that will keep you hooked!.......2005-05-24

Known in academic circles as "the Indiana Jones of the Art World," Duncan Forbes is in a sleepy Oregon village on the trail of a stolen Van Gogh painting. He suspects that Alex, the sexy town librarian knows where it is stashed. His sources tell him that her grandfather was involved in the plot to get the paining out of Europe during WW2. But before he can drill her for information, a dead body shows up in the library.

Soon an investigation ensues, throwing Alex and Duncan together, where they act on their smoldering feelings for each other. The chemistry between these two leaps off the pages.

The storyline is made all the more compelling with the colorful secondary characters including the second-chance romance between Alex's cousin Gillian and her former beau Tom, now a police officer.

Part suspense, part romance and part comedy, this one has something for everyone!

    3 out of 5 stars Good plot; so-so romance.......2005-02-25

I didn't like this book as much as the other reviewers here did. The suspense plot is well-designed (although you'll likely guess the murderer early on) and the dialogue has snappy moments, but I never got caught up in the romance. I think the success of a romance novel depends in large part on the quality of the hero and heroine's first meeting, and in this book, their initial exchange fell flat. Duncan is immediately attracted and hits on Alex while she is distant and sarcastic (rightfully so, I thought). I didn't get the sense of a passionate attraction-- just a weird guy making rude comments while the woman wishes he'd stop bothering her. There's a fine line between believable instant-attraction and creepy stalker guy making a sleazy play for a woman, and for me, Duncan and Alex never fit into the first category, only the second.

As the plot develops, the book gets more interesting, especially as Alexis' cousin and the town sheriff meet. In fact, the supporting characters were a lot more interesting to me than Alex and Duncan. When Alex and Duncan do get together, the sex scene is pretty mundane and again, there was no build-up of sexual and romantic tension-- just Duncan confidently asserting to Alex that she would sleep with him until she actually did.

This isn't a bad book; the plot will probably hold your interest. But I'm not going to seek out Nancy Warren's books in the future. She didn't sell me on the romance-- the fact that Duncan was gorgeous wasn't enough to convince me I should be swept up in his interest-- which seemed very shallow-- in Alex. Warren never quite got me to care about these two as lovers or individual characters, despite a very promising premise.
