Book Description
The dollar is in trouble. It has fallen against other currencies for the past three years, and now its orderly retreat could well become a rout. This spells potential disaster for the American economy—and potential riches for a few smart investors. In The Coming Collapse of the Dollar and How to Profit from It, financial gurus James Turk and John Rubino show how the dollar arrived at this precipice, why it will plunge, and how you can profit from the resulting financial crisis.
The U.S. today is the world’s biggest debtor nation, printing money with abandon to sustain the illusion of prosperity. The federal government owes $7 trillion and its debt is soaring. As a society, we owe more than $37 trillion, or about $500,000 per family of four. Our trade deficit with other countries is staggering, and to finance this mountain of debt we’re flooding the world with dollars. The inevitable result: The dollar will decline until it is displaced as the world’s dominant currency. Precious metals will soar in value, and gold will reclaim its monetary role at the center of the global financial system.
Traditionally a haven during times of uncertainty, gold has risen dramatically since 2001. By the fall of 2004 it was up by nearly 50
%, at over $400 an ounce. But this is just the beginning.
James Turk, a leading gold authority and the founder of GoldMoney.com, and veteran financial writer John Rubino, show readers how to capitalize on gold’s dramatic climb. In The Coming Collapse of the Dollar, Turk and Rubino reveal which stocks and bonds will falter as the dollar declines and why that decline is virtually inevitable. They offer strategies for using gold coins, gold stocks, gold-based digital currencies, and other hard assets to create a profitable portfolio. And they explain how to make the most of your gold and other precious metal holdings, identifying the opportunities and pitfalls of buying gold mining stocks and the mutual funds that invest in them.
America’s debt binge has put its economy at grave risk. The value of the dollar is falling; many stocks are once again wildly overvalued; and bonds, tied to an ever-diminishing dollar, are a disaster waiting to happen. By investing in gold and other hard assets, Turk and Rubino explain how you can protect yourself from these dangers.
The Coming Collapse of the Dollar and How to Profit from It is a must read for every investor, whatever the size of his or her portfolio.

Ignore this book at your peril.......2007-01-11
Our financial survival and prosperity depend on properly structuring our investment portfolios. Can you afford to idly stand by and witness evaporation of the purchasing power of your dollar-denominated paper assets? It is still time to protect the remainder of your assets by converting much of it to the wealth of ages, gold. Gold is wealth in itself, independent of debt and empty promises. This is no idle speculation, this is a concrete actionable set of plans suitable for different individual situations. You could spend 20+ times more on a financial consultant and still not receive this vital advice. Do yourself a favor: buy, read and act upon this book. Then share the message with your loved ones.
Read it!.......2007-01-07
Another great practical book on economics and investing for the common man. I learned so much about how things are now in America from this book. I recommend it heartily to anyone who wants to know more about gold, fiat money, the mess this country is in, and the doom that awaits us.
Coming collapse of the $.......2007-01-06
awesome book...I read it right after "Hot Commodities" by Jim Rogers...awesome book as well...US has alot of problems with the greenback and its possible demise as the worlds reserve currency...Jim has been talking about this as well for some time and is certain that the US will lose this status as the govt. busily prints money at will....devaluing the $ and killing its value, creating the real inflation problem...the book is very comprehensive in its argument and insightful in its recommendations...fast read!
Good Introductory Text.......2006-11-11
Overall, the author presents the case for a dollar collapse in moderate detail. Using gold as a protection mechanism is also well laid out. For the novice in this field of investment, which seeks to understand major economically destructive change before it occurs, this book does lay out the potential dollar problems nicely. For the more advanced student, there is not much new information here.
Book review of the coming collapse of the Dollar..........2006-11-10
It was quite informative but since we are in late 2006 it was a little outdated as they are comparing Gold prices from 2 years prior. But it was right on the money because as of their writing this Gold did rocket up to $600/oz from $300/oz so they were correct in their analysis. Very good read. I recommend it.
Book Description
Clear, complete directions for learning the basic folds, plus illustrations and diagrams for creating models of 30 different animals — all graded according to difficulty. Begin with a sailboat or starfish, go on to a duck or goose, and finish with such challenges as a penguin or elephant. Dollar bills not required.

animals for a dollar.......2007-04-11
GREAT book.. loads of fun.. challenging.. Will keep me busy for quite a while..
Masterful creations.......2006-03-23
There is a huge variety or animals, the models are not as hard as I thought they would be. I would recommend this book over any other I have purchased. There aren't any simple models thrown in to just fill the pages, they are all first class creations.
Maybe you can do it if you've done origami before???.......2005-03-05
Certain folds are impossible to figure out from the pictures and arrows. For example, in the "Swan", step 4 shows what looks like 3 folds... I think. And then a triangle like shape seems to be the result in step five. The step they show does not make any sense.
I had to figure it out from the picture of how it turned out. After twenty minutes, I got it, but with no help from the directions given.
Many other pictures show a fold that you later figure out, were supposed to leave part of the bill out of the fold (Did that make much sense... No? Now you know what the book is like.).
Yes, it is possible, but I'm thinking a video or personal instruction might be better for a first time origami guy like myself.
Cute little animals.......2004-11-18
Maybe because we see money every day folding it into origami is very interesting, This book has clear instructions on how to make a variety of animals from dollar bills. (Use the Look Inside feature on Amazon to see the variety of origamis you can make.) The instructions have a clear diagram for every step of the folding.
That doesn't mean folding animals is easy. Dollars don't hold creases very well, and both sides of the dollar are the same color which makes following a diagram difficult. Also like in normal origami the cooler it looks the more frustrating it is to make it (usually). Duck Star and Fish are pretty easy to fold, but as for Unicorn- whew boy.
I recommend this to people who want to give money as a gift, but still make it personal, or to people who just think it would be cool to do origami with money. They patterns are cute, and there are not so many books on money folding out there.
Practicality.......2004-04-18
Ever leave a tip for a waiter? Ever hand a hairdresser a couple bucks? Ever forget to get that "special gift" for someone's birthday?
This book is what you need. pull out a buck and fold one of these designs and impress all around. (Because some of these shapes are rather complicated, try what I do. I learn one shape a week and keep them foleded in my wallet as to be for quick and easy retrival. And when there is free time, fold some green!)
I have learned a Camel, Rooster, and Penguin so far and use them for almost any occasion.
Book Description
Step-by-step instructions and clear diagrams show paper folders at all levels of expertise how to fashion 30 origami models from dollar bills. Beginners will enjoy making a boat and a butterfly. Windmills and peacocks will suit intermediate-level hobbyists. An alligator and bison should prove no problem for advanced paper folders.

Great book.......2007-07-05
I picked up this book for the "shirt & tie". It was pretty easy to follow and I feel like I'm a pro at it now. There are tons of other things you can make out of a dollar all detailed in this book.
Hours of fun.......2007-01-11
I bought this product for myself and my boyfriend this past holiday. So far, we both really enjoy it. The book offers three levels of folding and many projects. As a novice, I've been able to do many of the basic and a few of the second level folds, luckily the book also offers a glossary of folds!
Great designs but hard-to-follow instruction.......2006-03-13
I was very excited by the designs in this book but I felt like steps were missing in the instructions and therefore, I was unable to complete several of the pieces. I have other books by John Montroll and have not had this problem before. Needless to say, I was dissapointed in this book.
Great designs! Good Diagrams! Lacks some instruction........2005-12-16
This is not a origami book for the faint of heart - or novice folder - by any stretch of the imagination. I have been folding for some years and found some of these designs to be a bit of a struggle. I'd get it... but a little more written instruction would have saved me some time.
PROS
1. Great Designs (he uses a variety of great designers - see the review before this one for details) - some of the best I've seen!
2. Good Diagrams - not great .. but accurate - found myself on a few occasions looking at one pic then the next and thinking "then a miracle occured" - but managed to work my way through them all.
3. Amazing attention to detail. John Montroll has an incredible eye for small detail folds that really differentiate his book from the others I've seen (I have a collection of 8 - not comprehensive by a long shot). Its this little attention to detail that will move your folding from intermediate to advanced. This is the first book I've had in a long time that has really advanced my folding skills. Not just because I've learned some new designs - but I've learned how to detail my designs.
4. Lots of designs - really an incredible value for the sheer number of designs you get - this is true with his Dollar Bill Animals book as well.
CONS
1. could use more written instruction with some of the diagrams
(if not for this I'd give this book 10 stars)
This along with his Dollar Bill Animals book are great! Personally, I preferred the Dollar Bill Animals book because I just liked the designs. This book however includes designs from a variety of authors as discussed in previous posts - which is a great addition.
Overall - the designs and diagrams outweigh the negatives. But after seeing Jodi Fukamoto's books this book is lacking in niceties.
This is not a book for beginners - but a MUST HAVE for intermediate to advanced folders. There are some easier folds in this book - but I fear a novice would struggle to figure them out.
Great shape collection.......2005-07-20
John Montroll is a well known name in origami, and he does an excellent job of creating both simple shapes for beginners as well as extraordinarily complex shapes for experts. This book is no exception. This is a great book to get if you're interested in presents, tips or other uses for money origami. Even if you're a raw beginner, you can start with the very simple items, and work your way up to the complex.
First, the collection of shapes. Things are rated by star difficulty. With the basic one star you get a boat, three diamonds, George Washington slept here bed, and a swan. For two stars you get a George Washington framed picture, star of David, windmill, house with chimney, sword, one-way arrow, tetrahedron cube, diamond, tulip, evergreen, tree with spiked branches, African mask, shirt with tie, crane, vulture, goose, flamingo, peacock, pelican, Asian dragon, alligator, tyrannosaurus, rabbit, armadillo, and squirrel.
Move up to three stars and you get a petalled flower, eagle, aardvark, llama, bison, butterfly and dragonfly.
That's the beauty of this book. You can make the classic shirt and swan designs for general tip-giving. If you've got a friend that is year of the dragon or year of the rabbit in Chinese astrology, those make perfect gift giving shapes. A house becomes a great housewarming present. The bed is a "thanks for letting me stay over" present. Insted of your gifts coming across as crass "take the cash please" sorts of things, you give it a touch of class by matching the shape to the occasion.
I have a minor problem with the illustrations, as they are simply done with one side of the paper shown white and the other side shown grey. That makes it really hard to understand what's going on in some situations. If the illustrations actually showed a dollar bill design, you could match up where the parts fell to know you were folding properly. John also has this tendency to do tricky folds that involve squashes and folds that will tie your brain in knots. It can easily take you several tries to figure out his more tricky moves on advanced designs. Again, better illustrations would help with this.
That all being said, you get an amazing collection of designs in this book, and your skills will definitely advance as you move your way through the designs. Well recommended!
Book Description

Eli asks Callie to find out who is responsible for the shooting and begs Tom to help her. The search leads Tom and Callie to the beautiful island of St. John in the Virgin Islands. There they face a sinister enemy among the ruins of an old sugar plantation—an enemy who’s willing to do anything to keep his identity secret and the past deeply buried.

Strong Fourth Entry in a Great Series.......2005-10-14
Tom and Callie finally get to spend some time getting to know each other in person. Almost alone at a retreat in North Carolina, one week has stretched into three, but the real world is calling again and they must reluctantly part ways.
Just as they reach the airport, Callie gets a phone call from Stella Gold. Her husband Eli has just been shot by a sniper and is in surgery. Before loosing consciousness, he specifically asked for the two of them to come. Since Eli is such a good friend, they drop everything and rush to his bed side.
A PI, Callie wants to figure out what happened to Eli. The only clue is a warning from someone named Nadine. When Eli and Stella's condo is searched, it is further proof that someone is after him. Where might he have hidden his notes? And why did Eli request Tom's presence?
As this series has progressed, the plots have only gotten strong, and this book is no exception. It starts with a bang and keeps right on going. Every time an answer comes, it only leaves more questions. Yet Callie and Tom keep digging, getting themselves further and further in trouble. While some things seemed obvious a little early on, there are still several nice twists along the way that keep the reader guessing.
Fans of the series will be happy to learn that Tom is a very active part of this book instead of only a presence like in previous entries. In fact, we even get to learn what he does, finally. His relationship with Callie continues to grow as she continues to move on from her husband's death. In fact, one of the strong points of the series is watching Callie finally truly deal with her grief.
The writing style is still a little rough, keeping the reader a little more at bay by telling instead of showing. It's not a big problem, however, and I found myself staying up too late reading every night to see what would happen in the next chapter.
The only problem with this book is the cliffhanger ending. Even though I saw it coming (I've read the back of the next book already), it still left me wanting to pick up the next book right away. Which isn't really a bad thing at all.
With a strong plot and great characters, this Christian mystery series is wonderful entertainment.
A page turner.......2005-01-25
The first book in the Million Dollar Mysteries that you get to see Callie and Tom work so closely together. Clark drives the story along amongst breathtaking scenery, and mounting action. She kept me turing the pages and I finished the story in a short time. The Christianity part wasn't overbearing. I enjoyed being able to see a bit more of Tom, and can't wait to read what the next book will tell of him and Callie.
The only flaw with the series is that the story is "told" to you. I feel as if I don't get to feel and see as Callie actually does, that she is holding me slightly at bay. For a story written in FP POV, I'd like to have more of my senses involved. But it still is a good read.
Buckle Your Seat Belts.......2004-02-12
Charity investigator Callie Webber finally seems to be having some joy in her life. Although heartbroken by the death of her beloved husband in a boating accident, she has just started to explore a relationship with Tom Bennett, Callie's boss and the philanthropist behind the J.O.S.H.U.A. Foundation. As they are ending their vacation together in the North Carolina mountains they receive a devastating call; Eli Gold, Tom's friend and Callie's mentor, has just been shot and his last words before sliding into unconsciousness were to ask for the couple's help.
After rushing to Eli's bedside they discover that he had been tracking down a woman he had thought was dead but is apparently very much alive. Callie also learns that Eli has been hiding his own secret past, namely his history with the National Security Agency and his ties with the mysterious woman. As Tom and Callie follow the trail to the Caribbean island of St. John they find themselves involved in a complicated scheme involving art fraud, secret identities, and double-crosses. Complicating matters is that just as Callie allows herself to believe that it's possible to find two loves in a lifetime she must confront Tom's own past and whether she has enough trust left in her to believe in him.
Although labeled an inspirational Christian mystery, Quarter for a Kiss easily crosses into the mainstream thriller genre with its fascinating plot and fast pace. The action speeds up as Tom and Callie use his rock climbing skills to stage an elaborate break-in into an extensively guarded home and coordinate their investigation with federal agents. One of the most entertaining scenes is the detailed description of Callie's attempt to place bugs within the home of their suspect by using actual bug traps. Additionally, Clark so vividly paints a picture of St. John that the reader feels the breezes and sees the clear ocean. The author successfully creates great characters that are conflicted and very real, from Jodi, Eli's immature adult daughter, to Sergeant Abraham Ruhl, the St. John's police officer who is unwilling to give up his investigation to Interpol or the NAS. Of course, Clark's greatest achievement comes with Callie and Tom, who are both very engaging and slowly building a stronger relationship together. Callie's wit, investigative skills, perseverance, and faith will ensure the success of this fourth entry in the winning Million Dollar Mystery series.
Compelling and entertaining.......2004-01-30
The latest in the Million Dollar Mysteries series is, as always with this author's work, better than the last (and that was pretty good to begin with). Her characters are deepening, she has a gift for plot and structure, and she leaves you wishing she could write the next book fast enough to read as soon as you're done with this one. As Callie and her new beau (and still boss) Tom investigate the shooting of an old, dear friend, the stakes are higher than usual, the emotions are more intense and the story is propelled forward more forcefully. The secrets are many, the solutions make sense and the reader is left wanting more. Can you ask for more than that?
fantastic Million Dollar Mystery.......2004-01-29
In the North Carolina Mountains, Callie and Tom spend three weeks together becoming acquainted in person with one another after only meeting over the telephone due to work. Tom is the philanthropist behind the J.O.S.H.U.A. Project while Callie investigates non-profit groups for grant suitability. Tom introduces Callie to his favorite hobby, mountain climbing while Callie does likewise with canoeing. Both feel something special connects them.
As their time together draws to a close, Stella Gold calls to tell them that her spouse, Eli the man who brought Callie and Tom together has been shot. They rush to Cape Canaveral to visit Eli in the hospital. The ailing Eli asks Callie and Tom to find out who shot him. The duo would refuse nothing if Eli asked so they begin investigating and soon find themselves in danger in the Virgin Islands from someone who wants certain truths to remain hidden.
The fourth Million Dollar Mystery' is a fantastic story that moves the series forward on a personal level as well as providing the audience with a delightful who-done-it. The relationship between Tom and Callie evolves beautifully as each finds they are falling in love with the other, but has baggage holding them back. The amateur sleuth inquiries is cleverly handled because of Callie, who though she is not a detective, her work makes her something more than an amateur. Mindy Starns Clark keeps the suspense going from the moment the dynamic pair reach Florida until the final confrontation in St. Johns and the romance blossoming from the first wall climb to the closing discussion making the upcoming half dollar tale something to look forward to reading.

Book Description
Real World Macro, 23rd edition, is a lively, thought-provoking alternative to mainstream economics textbooks.
Real World Macro asks the questions that standard textbooks try to avoid: What's so great about growth? Is unemployment "natural"? Why should inequality matter?
Along with covering the basics--monetary and fiscal policy, productivity and investment, inflation and unemployment--
Real World Macro includes a chapter on major controversies in macroeconomics, such as the legacy of Keynesianism in the United States and the basics of Marxist economic theory. It also takes a look at international trade and finance, covering such topics as the debt crisis and arguments for and against "free trade."
The thoroughly updated and revised 23rd edition contains new chapter introductions reviewing the concepts examined in each article, discussion questions relating them to a standard textbook, and new articles addressing the latest real world issues and controversies, including topics like Social Security, the housing bubble, offshoring, the declining dollar, tax cuts, and the persistence of the racial and gender gap in jobs and income.
While
Real World Macro is a great supplement to any mainstream text, its articles have been keyed to David Colander's popular textbook, Economics, and its macroeconomics "split."
Real World Macro's engaging articles are drawn from the pages of
Dollars & Sense, the award-winning magazine of popular economics.
Dollars & Sense also publishes Real World Micro, Current Economic Issues, The Wealth Inequality Reader, Real World Globalization, Grassroots Journalism, Striking a Balance, Real World Banking, The Environment in Crisis, Introduction to Political Economy, and Unlevel Playing Fields: Understanding Wage Inequality and Discrimination.

Book Description
Need a degree from Harvard, Yale, Stanford, or MIT? No problem. Send us a check! Do you know where your doctor, lawyer, or clergyman earned his or her degree? In 1986, a congressional committee report concluded that "more than 500,000 working Americans have a fraudulent degree." The media hardly noticed. The public yawned. The academic world buried its head in the sand. And things have gotten much, much worse since then.
Fueled by the Internet, more than 300 active degree mills are selling thousands of fake degrees each week, including medical and law degrees. Their total sales exceed $500 million a year, yet the damage that their "customers" do is immeasurable. In a recent case, a man with a fake medical degree was put on trial for manslaughter after a patient died from incorrect medication. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Allen Ezell, who specialized in degree fraud during his 35 years with the FBI, and John Bear, prolific author and expert witness on the subject in federal and state courts, reveal the shocking dimensions of this growing scam in this thoroughly researched exposé. They show how degree mills operate, offer detailed warning signs that a school might be fake, tell how to check up on anyone's degree, and what to do when a fake degree is discovered. Also provided are information and links to useful lists of bad and fake schools. This is an invaluable reference book for personnel departments in business and academia, as well as for the average consumer.
The authors have made more than 200 television appearances on the subject, including on Good Morning America, 60 Minutes, and The Today Show. As the foremost experts on degree mills, Bear and Ezell have been interviewed on the radio and in magazines and newspapers worldwide.

Book Description
Charlotte Lewes, a young Briton newly widowed by the Great War, departs for colonial Burma in 1917 to escape the ruins of her life. As a schoolteacher in Rangoon she is rejuvenated by the sensuous Oriental climate, and she meets John Dollar, a sailor who becomes her passionate love and whose ill-fated destiny inextricably binds her to him.
On a festive seafaring expedition, the tightly knit British community confronts disaster in the shape of an earthquake and ensuing tidal wave. Swept overboard, Charlotte, John Dollar, and eight young girls who are Charlotte's pupils awake on a remote island beach. As they struggle to stay alive, their dependence on John overwhelms him, and an atmosphere of menace and doom builds, culminating in shocking and riveting scenes of both death and survival.
Customer Reviews:
Amazing! .......2006-07-19
This is an amazing story from beginning to end. I read it in a few hours with only short breaks. A teacher named Charlotte goes to Burma to teach English children at a school for expatriates during the Colonial Age after World War I. She falls in love with a sailor named John Dollar and while sailing on a ship is stranded on an island after a tsunami destroys their boat. John and her students are stranded also. The writing is absorbing and compelling. I was drawn in from beginning to end. The ending came as a complete surprise. Highly recommended.
Creepy, moralisitic fun!.......2003-05-22
I didn't like this book so much that I felt compelled to review it. Rather, I'm adding my two cents because I wanted to alert people that most of the other reviewers--typically those who didn't like the book--have chosen to ruin it for others by mentioning important plot twists that wouldn't otherwise be readily guessed.
My opinion on the book though... I think Wiggins is a skilled writer and storyteller. I enjoyed the book enough that I couldn't put it down the night I finished it, despite knowing that it would give me nightmares. The comparisons to Lord of the Flies are inevitable, but it is its own work. Some complain of being bored or confused by the first half. I felt the first half established her writing prowess, and overall, I consider this book to be creepy, moralistic fun.
interesting read.......2001-10-16
i did not enjoy the first half of this book. i did not like how the story jumped from topic to topic. it didn't seem like it was being developed enough. the story picked up a lot once i reached the climax. from that point on i could not put the book down. the ending was twisted. i would recommecd this book.
Bizzare.......2001-06-26
"John Dollar" is basically "The Lord of the Flies" with girls instead of boys. If you found "The Lord of the Flies" to be horrifying, disgusting and/or disturbing ... you will certainly find "John Dollar" to be more of the same. It is not likely that I ever would have picked this book to read for entertainment - I had to read it for college and because I had to analyze the book it made it interesting to me. Otherwise, on a non-academic level I find it very disturbing!
Little Women Meets Lord of the Flies.......2000-04-24
Although I'd hesitate to recommend John Dollar to anyone I didn't know well, I found it a compelling, disturbing, and thought-provoking read. It's a bizarre combination of Lord of the Flies, Little Women, and Pink Flamingoes, and definitely not for the casual fiction reader. I was troubled by the novel's structure, which is almost two entirely different subplots pieced together on a thin thread. And many of the images are almost impossible to dismiss from memory, as much as I would like to. But if you're looking for challenging fiction, willing to completely ignore the annoying "Study Group Questions" provided by the publisher at the end, and up to the challenge of thinking hard about what an often-brilliant novel is pointing to, this book is something you'll want to read.
