In The Sacred Romance, authors Brent Curtis and John Eldredge inspire readers to enter into the greatest romance of all time--one with God. Many Christians have tried to satiate the hunger of their hearts by substituting the love of God with things from this world. Since "our heart is the key to the Christian life," this often leads to spiritual stagnation and unhappiness, while God, the "Great Lover," attempts to lavishly adorn us with His perfect love. Doubting God's goodness coupled with fear of trusting Him blind the believer and prevent him from being wooed by God into a rich relationship. Life can soon become empty, cold, and worthless. Through personal narrative, Curtis and Eldredge take turns convincing the reader not only that God is good, but that recklessly abandoning oneself to Him results in a fulfilling life of abundance and awe. In this portrayal of God's character, the obvious error lies in believing that He could need anything from His creatures, or that He could be "hurt" by their unrequited love. On the whole, however, this is a call to a more passionate relationship with the lover of our souls. A follow-up book, The Journey of Desire, was written by John Eldredge after Brent Curtis's tragic death. --Jill Heatherly
Book Description
The God who saves is also a God who woos His own to a relationship primarily of the heart. As we draw closer to Him, we must choose to let go of other "less-wild lovers," such as perfectionistic driveness and self-indulgence. Eldredge and Curtis identify the lies offered by "false loves" and instruct us on the journey back to the Lover of our souls. In carefully crafted words and images, the authors entice the reader to his or her own journey of the heart, promising, "It is possible to recover the lost life of our heart and with it the intimacy, beauty, and adventure of life with God."

Highly recommended reading for any Christian.......2007-06-18
See my review for the study guide because this is a great study to do with a group of people. Eye opening to say the least.
Fulfilling.......2007-03-30
This book really spoke to me and opened my heart to a whole new world: that perhaps God really wants to know us deeply and to love us as a lover does. The idea that we are His children, created by Him, and that we are glorious creatures marred by sin, that our hearts are new and good things once we accept Christ, are crazy ideas in the modern church, but these ideas hold up in scripture. This book has really helped me become closer to God, and closer to His true desire for my life: to live a great adventure with Him. I HIGHLY recommend it.
The Sacred Romance.......2007-01-05
I first read the book, which has profoundly and positively affected my spiritual life. In all of my readings on this subject over the years, nothing ever has put the love of God in such a relevant context. I am now re-reading the book and doing the accompaning workbook which I recommend as well. I highly recommend the book especially for those who are interested in developing a or strenghening their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Wildly Profound and Inspirational.......2006-11-20
All of us spend our lives with a desire for something more, either buried deep within our hearts or just below the surface. This book reveals what that something more is and how we both draw close to it and away from it. The authors' insights into the causes of both our joys and our miseries are nothing short of revelation. This is not a "feel good" kind of book. It does not tell us that everything will be all right if we just have faith. It explores the harsh realities of life and the glorious possibilities of our God given destiny of a life in communion with Him.
I found myself moved to the core of my being, both laughing and crying at the same time as the words of this book cut straight to the center of what my life has been missing all along. This book is not a straight-forward outline of premises though. It is a journey with God. If your heart is not open to mystery of that journey, if it is not hungry for that something more, if it does not feel something missing, then it will not be open to the message of this book. I recommend picking it up when you are at a point in your life when you find yourself hurting, lonely, lost or numb and wondering where God is and why He doesn't just make the pain go away.
New revelation, new spirituality.......2006-10-30
First of all, this book mentions "the heart" and strays from the truth of scripture terribly. God's word says the "heart is deceitful above all things and who can know it?" There is nothing good in our hearts, apart from Christ, and whatever "good" there might be in there comes from Him. Scripture tells us that in the last days the church will go into apostasy. This time has come like no other time before. There is a move to to throw out scripture and move past it, ignoring what God has already told us. What we need to know is in scripture--especially those things we need to know about Him and what He requires of us. This move in the church today to "feel" God and go "to a deeper level" is a reawakening of mysticism which does not belong in the body of Christ. The truth and objectives of scripture are not mystical, for a reason. Jesus Christ was and is not a mystic. This movement is called "contemplative spirituality" and it is subtle and dangerous. Sadly, even Eldredge has taken this route. How many more good authors and great men of God are going to forsake the completeness of God's word to turn inward to "self" and think they will find something new? Solomon said, "there is nothing new under the sun." The devil wants us to think we can reinvent and invent "new" outside of God's marvelous confines. We need to stick to scripture and stop reading books like these written by men who want to offer us something more than the Lord commanded us. We are treading on shaky ground, but all we need is His glorious word and to do what He said: "Keep my commandments."

A must-have for anyone in sales!.......2007-06-10
This book was recommended to me by a colleague so I decided to add it to my library. This book offers many great tips, techniques, and sales scripts for closing more sales. The format is easy to read and understand and the books covers a lot of material that is very useful. Want to close more sales and make more money? Spend the money and get this "must have" book!
Outdated sales techniques........2006-06-25
The sales techniques touted in this book may have worked in the '70's & '80's. Today's consumer is more sophisticated and better informed and would be insulted by the majority of these methods.
Way Way Over Rated.......2005-08-04
After reading the reviews I was really looking forward to getting this book. And while I was reading it I was trying hard to like it. But it didn't happen. The book is more about attitude than actually what to say or do to close a sale. But attitude is real important, thats why I gave it a 2 star rating. There are some closes in here where he tells you to lie. Don't know how he does that and sleeps at night, but I'm not going to do it. If you want actuall closes read Tom Hopkins, damn good. Overall I wish I hadn't spent the time reading this and put the time in something more worthwhile. I won't be ordering the closers 2.
put me on the map.......2005-07-14
i sell timeshare and i was no good at it. sure i got some sales but they were few and far between and i needed a closer to make the deal solid. after reading the book my sales and confidence have increased. i went from a nobody at my job (probably days away from being fired) to become a performer. this book put me on the map and gave me the skills needed to succeed!! i can now meet my customers confidently and know that i can easily sell them. now my deals are so solidly sold that all my manager (or t.o.) needs to do is finish the customer with a 'drop'!! i only wish this book was updated to reflect our times
unbelieveble!!!!.......2004-04-14
I SALE TIME-SHARE AND I USED TO MAKE $ 4000 A MONTH AVERAGE SELLING $ 60000 A MONTH AVERAGE!
I BOUGHT THIS BOOK, I FOLLOWED IT WITH A SWISS ACCURACY AND I NOW,AFTER 3 MONTH, IM A TOP SELLER SINCE 2 MONTHS SELLING NOT LESS THAN $ 300.000 A MONTH! HOW MUCH DO I EARN? $ 20.000 A MONTH AVERAGE!! SO SHOULD YOU BUY THIS BOOK? MMMMM.....NO DONT!!

"A city that forgets its murder victims is a city lost. This is where we don't forget," Detective Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch is told by his new boss, as he ends a three-year retirement and rejoins the Los Angeles Police Department at the start of The Closers, the 11th installment of Michael Connelly's Edgar-winning series. Having long ago demonstrated his knack for cracking previously unsolved homicides, Bosch is assigned to the newly re-branded Open-Unsolved Unit (aka "cold case" squad), and charged with resolving the 17-year-old abduction and slaying of a mixed-race teenager.
Rebecca Verloren, 16, was discovered missing from her Chatsworth home on a July morning in 1988. Her corpse and the gun that ended her life were later found on a hill behind the house. An autopsy revealed that she'd recently undergone an abortion, and a piece of skin tissue--presumably the killer's--was found trapped inside the murder weapon. Only now, though, has DNA science matched that tissue to Roland Mackey, a dyslexic 35-year-old tow-truck operator with no obvious connection to the deceased. It's up to Bosch, once more partnered with Kizmin Rider, to determine whether Mackey offed Becky Verloren, or was at least an accessory to that tragedy. But the more Bosch and Rider dig into this dusty crime, trying in part to determine whether racial animosity might have been involved, the more pain and resistance they encounter. Becky's white mother maintains the teen's old bedroom as a shrine, while her shattered father, an African-American chef, has vanished into LA's homeless community. Of the two original investigators on the case, one has since committed suicide, and Bosch suspects that the other--now a police commander--is helping to keep the lid tight on some old departmental secrets, perhaps linked to our hero's nemesis, Deputy Chief Irvin S. Irving.
Understandably rusty after three years sans shield, Bosch makes his share of personal and professional mistakes here--including one that supplies The Closers with a lethal, plot-turning climax. But the greater problem is that Connelly exhausts so much time and effort following his protagonist through the tedium of modern police procedures, that he neglects what readers have liked more about this series in the past: its persistently deft exploration of Bosch's lonely, haunted soul (which remains mostly out of sight in this tale), and the author's frequent flights of lyrical prose (also not much in evidence). Would-be novelists wanting an example of a solidly constructed cop tale need look no further than The Closers. But readers hoping to learn why Connelly is so well-respected in this genre should turn, instead, to previous Bosch titles such as The Concrete Blonde, Angel's Flight, or City of Bones. --J. Kingston Pierce

In Los Angeles in 1988, a sixteen-year-old girl disappeared from her home and was later found dead of a gunshot wound to the chest. The death appeared at first to be a suicide-but some of the evidence contradicted that scenario, and detectives came to believe this was in fact a murder. Despite a by-the-book investigation, no one was ever charged. Now Detective Harry Bosch is back with the LAPD with the sole mission of closing unsolved cases, and this girl's death is the first he's given. A DNA match makes the case very much alive again, and it turns out to be anything but cold. The ripples from this death have destroyed at least two other lives, and everywhere he probes, Bosch finds hot grief, hot rage, and a bottomless well of betrayal and malice. And it's not just the girl's family and friends whose lives Bosch is stirring up afresh. With each new development, Harry Bosch finds increasing resistance from within the police force itself. Old enemies are close at hand. Even as he pushes relentlessly to find the truth, Bosch has to wonder if this assignment was intended to be his last. Digging up the past may heal old wounds-or it may expose new, searing ones.
Customer Reviews:
is the writer on a word-count or what?.......2007-08-23
I have enjoyed most of this author's books, especially Lincoln Lawyer...but this one is poorly written. The author explains almost every sentence he writes with three more sentences as though the reader could not possibly "get it" unless he does. It is driving me crazy. Also, he injects far too many personal moments into the cop's daily work that make no sense and add nothing to story-a toy reminds him of his daughter...big deal!
Also explains the LA riots and racial issues as if no one else has ever heard of such a thing-instead of just moving the story ahead.
I am losing interest fast but have nothing else to read in the house-i am really disappointed with this book...
Is Harry Getting Too Self-Righteous?.......2007-08-12
This is a tight, tense entry in the series. One of the best, and I've read them all. But Harry seems never to give the benefit of the doubt to other cops. Why not just stick him in IAD and get it over with?
Why does Everyone like this Book?.......2007-08-08
Honestly, I thought it was a little boring. I wish I could agree with the others, but I labored to finish it. Maybe this writer is just not for me. The book certainly didn't make me want to turn the pages. I know the author has a huge following but this one didn't do it for me.
Forgotten Voices.......2007-08-03
Harry Bosch is back. He's been retired for three years after 25 years with the L.A.P.D. Now he's the new kid on the block working with the Open-Unsolved unit. It used to be called the Cold Case file, but L.A.P.D. is changing it image. For those of us who love Harry Bosch, we've followed this independent minded cop through many a case, looked over his shoulder at many a murder book, watched him defy authority, were with him in his relationships with women, up to his retirement. He has a brief stint as a private eye, which to me wasn't the same, but now our Harry has reemerged.
What I like about Michael Connelly's writing, besides the realness of Harry Bosch, is his knowledge of L. A. cop-dom. It's a confidence that he bestows on the reader, that this is the way it's really done. We can almost see the dust flying as we flop open those murder books. Harry seems as real as an fictional character we've ever read.
The addition of DNA testing to the police investigation of these old cases, has allowed for some of the Open-Unsolved cases to be re-looked at, and this is right up our man's alley. The novel is called "The Closers" because now the cases can finally be re-worked and finally closed, but to Harry it is the opener, since he can re-open books that have been long closed. He is the one who listens to those forgotten voices. Harry still has his runs ins with the established ruling class, still bucks the system, ruffles the feathers of even those he is closest to, but that's just Harry for you.
Hard to Put Down.......2007-07-23
I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it. The characters and development of this book was fun to follow. It was hard to put down.

Highly recommend this study.......2007-06-18
It was quite eye opening and was inspiring to even the most stubborn people in my bible study. Gives a whole new perspective to our relationship with God which often becomes a chore and sometimes a burden if we don't see him accurately... Well written, a bit repetitive, and thorough.
Amazing.......2007-04-13
So much better than the book. I was confused after many of the chapters in the book, and the journal helped clear it up. Very glad I bought it- such a fan of John Eldredge, he had completely changed the way I view God.
Indispensable.......2004-10-13
I can't recommend this book highly enough. I read the original book, and loved it, but knew there was more that i was missing. The workbook asks detailed and sometimes confronting questions, and acts as an aide to hearing God. I found once i started asking God these questions, i had the insight i needed to break through so many of the walls i'd put to God, myself, and others. As a result, my relationships are healthier, and i am a less defensive person.
Couldn't relate.......2002-03-08
I found myself reaching to answer these questions, in the spirit of being cooperative....almost making mountains out of molehills as I viewed my life.
Sacred RomanceWorkbook review.......2001-11-06
This is one of the most spiritual liberating books that I've read so far. It helped me to recognise a lot of hidden truths in my life and the embark on the journey of liberation and enter into the bigger part that God created me to play in the drama of life.

Book Description
Every moment of your life is like a page in a Where’s Waldo book. God is there, the Scriptures tell us—on every one of them. But the ease with which he may be found varies from one page to the next. God is closer than you think!
Download Description
Two works of art help John Ortberg think about the presence of God. One is Michelangelo Buonarroti's brilliant painting of God and Adam on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. God is close. His hand comes within a hair's breath of the hand of the man. It seems to say that God is closer than we think-he's here, now, today, accessible to all who will but "lift a finger." The second work of art is Martin Hanford's cartoon character Waldo. He is on every page of the Where's Waldo? books, but he can be difficult to find. In the same way, even though God is present on every page of our lives, he's often not easy to spot. In God Is Closer Than You Think, John Ortberg examines this frustrating paradox of the Christian life. "When it is so easy to 'see' God all around me (in trees, in birds, in nature) why is it so hard to feel his presence-especially when I need him most?" Ortberg helps readers discover the secret to living daily in the reality of God's most frequent promise in Scripture, "I will be with you."
Customer Reviews:
Outstanding!.......2007-07-27
Ortberg is a master. Next to his book, If You Want To Walk On Water, You've Got To Get Out of the Boat, this was as good as it gets for relating to God in our limited human minds. Ortberg has tremendous way of taking ordinary stories, humor and life experiences and making them clear pictures of what Scripture communicates. Excellent, excellent book.
Where's Waldo?.......2006-11-10
I purchased this book for a small group setting and it fit the bill perfectly. Ortberg has a way of uncovering truth and in this book, encourages you to find Waldo, a God who wants to be part of your everyday life. I enjoyed it personally, was challenged by it and found the group setting enhanced my learning. I do look for God differently now since I've read the book. He is closer than we think.
I would have kept the orginial jacket cover. It focuses you to the subject matter much better.
Not bad.......2006-09-23
This book is a pretty decent book if you are interested in a mostly narrative style of discussion on Christian Living. Entertaining, well written, and clear, I would recommend it if you are looking for this type of book.
Don't try so hard!.......2006-07-19
This is a very helpful little book on how to find God in your everyday life. The discussion of Martha & Mary is particularly astute. My only complaint about the book is that Ortberg tries way too hard to be funny and even hip. (This is the first book of his that I've read, so I don't know if he does this all the time or not; I suspect he does.) Humor should be natural, not forced, as it is in this book. His attempts to be hip are merely pathetic. For instance, he quotes the line "The jerk store called & they've run out of you" attributing it to a friend of his. He obviously has no clue it comes from a Seinfeld episode! Still & all, a good book, though, for a Christian at any level.
I Am Convinced!.......2006-04-14
Upon a recommendation from my pastor, I picked this book up and I was not disappointed. John Ortberg writes with a Max Lucado approach. Taking everyday things and making us realize that they too have a place in our spritual walk. He challenges us to look for God in everyday occurences. His premise, as indicated by the title, is that God is more active in our everyday walk than we give Him credit for. In turn, he challenges us to do our part in praying that God bring His Kingdom to earth.

Product Description
Unlock the secret of your personality and learn how to be a better spouse, parent, friend, & Christian! All of us are born with distinct personality traits. Some of us live for crowds and parties; others seek solitude and time for quiet reflection. Some of us are naturally pushy, while others are content just to get along. We don.t pick and choose these traits; they.re just part of the way we.re made. For in the womb God doesn.t merely mold our body; He also gives us the temperament that, all our days, colors our understanding, guides our choices, and serves as the foundation of our moral and spiritual life. Ancient philosophers identified four basic temperaments, and over the centuries, countless wise souls have used these four to understand human nature. Now comes The Temperament God Gave You, the first Catholic book on the subject in 70 years. Here veteran Catholic counselor Art Bennett and his wife Laraine provide an accessible synthesis of classical wisdom, modern counseling science, and Catholic spirituality: a rich understanding of the temperaments and what they mean for you and for your family. Drawing on decades of study, prayer, and practical experience, Art and Laraine show you how to identify your own temperament and use it to become what God is calling you to be: a loving spouse, an effective parent, and a good friend. Best of all, they give you a Catholic understanding of the four temperaments that will bring you closer to God and help you discover the path to holiness that.s right for you. Peace. Happiness. Holiness. You.ll find yourself growing in each of these qualities as you come to understand . and learn to use as you should . the temperament God gave you.

The Temperement God Gave You.......2007-10-10
This book gave great insight as to how I respond to others and my environment as well as insight as to how the others in my life respond. It is an invaluable aid in improving communication. It is easy to read, it is a good reference book. It is written with both humor and sensitivity. I highly reccommend his book.
Good Book.......2007-01-19
First, a disclaimer... I only read the parts my wife told me to read. I'm not a religious man, so reading the whole book would just turn my stomach. But, my wife seems to think it's a great book and the temperaments seem to be pretty accurate, which helps us understand a little bit more about each other. I'd recommend it for anyone thinking "why does my spouse, or child, act like that?" (if you don't mind the Catholic religious spiel that comes with it)keep in mind, though, it does not tell you how to change the person, but instead how to live with and motivate the person.
AWESOME!.......2007-01-05
Do you ever wonder why two people could be in the exact same situation but react totally differently? This helps explain it. This book was so dead-on to my temperament that I felt like they had done an interview with my subconscious. It's quick and interesting read. You'll end-up using it as a reference book.
This book also explains how to relate to differing temperaments and has truly opened my eyes to the way my loved ones "tick". It also has great tips for the work environment. Most importantly it has helped me pin-point the style in which I should approach my relationship with God.
If you know anyone who is engaged...A MUST READ!
This book is a MUST read! .......2006-02-18
This is a GREAT BOOK! I'm a homeschooler and this is really helping me to understand my 4 boys' temperaments, especially how to approach them the right way regarding their schoolwork. You think you know your children and then you read this and realize just how much you need to learn. I highly recommend it.
Is there anything better than 5 stars?.......2005-11-18
If there is, this would be my #1 highest pick. Truly, this book will help you out so much! It helps you understand why people do what they do, how to deal with each temperament, and motivating every type of person(teachers-this is SOOOO the book for you!) I can't recommend it highly enough. Its modern, catholic, and easy, enjoyable reading. It allows you to take a "temperament" test to decide which temperament is yours, and how to most effectively motivate yourself to become the person God wants you to be. A great conversation starter and awesome gift for any young, old, or in between Catholic. I can't say enough! You'll love this book!

Not that good.......2007-06-14
I was not impressed by the this book at all. I was boring and do not recommend it.
Deeper than you think.......2007-03-08
This book illuminates the notion that in the most simplistic and uniform representation (placid expressions, same sex toys, same background, lighting scheme) women are essentially beautiful. The models struck me as "doll-like," in their emotionless and highly calculated poses. In saying that I could tell that the photographer tried to detach himself from the models and create a universal beauty that all could enjoy. I say that because in most models you can see a reflection of the photographer in their model. In this work I felt that special attention was paid to get the models into dreamy placid states so that they could be as detached as possible, as if the images were taken of girls in trances. This level of depth in my eyes was achieved and I think it is an awesome feat for an artist of any guild to put their mastery to work and create their ideal of beauty.
There is a certain immaculate appearance that reoccurred throughout the photo book that added greatly to the aesthetic feeling. Most all of the models reveal what is between their legs and in combination with impeccable lighting the end result is fantastic. Anyone who has tried to photograph a woman between her legs will most likely be in awe after seeing these pictures, truly something to aspire to.
At first I had missed the landscapes posed next to the models but after I looked through the book a few times I locked onto them. Aside from the landscapes matching the models I think it was wise to put in the occasional landscape because a book of just one kind of picture gets boring really fast.
The book is a little larger than a 5x7 and when I first got it that was kind of a let down because I enjoy large format books best. The small size however is deceiving because there is a lot of content and subtleties that I really had to look for. If you can try and make out that shape inside the front cover, if you move the page you can make out the reflection, maybe another phallic symbol?
Very beautiful but too similar from go to whoa.......2006-12-12
I sometimes shoot intimate photography for close friends and lovers and bought this book to add to my collection to help inspire my subjects and have them tell me what they like. The quality is impecable but the style and format repeated. The subjects are looking at the camera with that 'Have you got the shot yet?' look in their eyes yet in a sexual context when they should have had that pending orgasmic look of bliss on their faces-building to the release of climax. The only other critisism is the overuse of the same toys. My instinct said if I saw those images happening at a party I'd be thinking 'Oh dear girls, I hope you disinfected that!' A sense of safety creates the room to 'cut loose'.
Some very beautiful images but a lot too much of too similar. One can't tell if we're intended to be worshipping the female form (looking into the lens-connecting with the viewer) or celebrating female sexuality-The faraway look, the relaxed closed eyes and wide open mouth and head back of 'Oooooooh yeeeeeeah!', the tightly squeezed face and squint of 'Oh God!! here I come!!' The sexuality of the context made the realxed gaze at the camera out of place, made it too much 'is this how you want me to look?'
Notwithstanding some very beautiful images but the similarity of the whole body of work has pushed this photographers other works a little further down my wish list.
Fine art erotica of the highest caliber!.......2006-12-05
Nobody shoots erotica like Frenchman Didier Carre! His artistic flair is matched only by the scintillating sexuality of work. And his composition and style are so otherworldly, that he is genuinely in a class all to himself. This new book follows up on the success of his first, "Stainless Ladies", and continues along with that most remarkable vision. And just like its predecessor,"Come Closer" is exquisitely packaged by its publisher (Edition Skylight).
Didier's lush, black & white images showing beautiful models with their most intimate parts propped up for full display are what make this work so exciting. But that Didier can showcase a woman pleasuring herself with a glass sex toy, and do so in such a manner as to make the image worthy of display in the finest of museums, is what makes this a work of genius. This is fine art erotica of the highest caliber!

Book Description
"The Closers-Part 2" picks up where the original "The Closers" leaves off. Beyond the set closes, planned presen-tations and objection nullifications contained in the first book, "The Closers-Part 2" shows you what successful, sophisticated salespeople really do with all of that basic information. If "The Closers" original book can double your income (it has for many salespeople!), "The Closers-Part 2" can double it again!
Customer Reviews:
All fluff and no stuffing.......2007-03-13
Three words of advice: save your money. Whereas "The Closers" was all steak, "The Closers 2" is as thin as one scrawny piece of bacon. There really is no subtsance to this book. It puports to yield more "secrets" to powerful selling, but it's full of light and largely useless bromides. As I was reading it I felt sure I would come to the "good stuff" soon, but never did. It was like one continuous preface, telling you what goodies there were coming soon, but never getting to them. It is shameful that the cover carries a "WARNING -- not for the beginner or novice, but for sales professionals ONLY." This is puffery of the worse kind, a sleazy sales "trick" that does not belong in any self-respecting salespersons's reportoire. I'm afraid the rest of the book goes downhill from there.
Quality, Not Quantity.......2004-02-06
Please do not read this book. Let me continue to rack up the sales using these techniques, without any competition. Thanks.
Eliminated the ceiling of my earnings in the first reading........1999-04-10
It is amazing how quickly I was able to remove the ceiling that impeded by sales production. Don't misunderstand; I was at the top of my company in terms of sales production, but I just couldn't "break free." Then, I had one of those nightmare months that sales professionals dread. The ones we blame on everything except our inability to close. I cleared the decks, read The Closers II, and removed the obstacles. Since I found this little treasure, I've produced more in the last TWO WEEKS than I produced last QUARTER. I loaned my copy of the original Closers to a friend in the insurance business and I can't get it back. I guess that means he's profiting from the material too.
Excellent book for the serious sales professional or novice.......1998-08-28
In 18yrs of direct sales I rate this book as a must read for those interested in becoming powerful, yet subtle sales pros.I have bought copies of this book and given it away to those in my office to see sales results, and results did happen. Many lessons learned by me even though I am experienced. It's a MUST READ for those who confuse sales pressure with professionalism

Customer Reviews:
A real patient/therapist encounter.......2007-07-27
What I love about this book is that it takes you into an unspoken territory of patient and therapist. In the same light as a photojournalist goes behind the scenes to capture events; We capture the inside life of both patient and therapist in a moving and human experience. In exchange for money, Dr. Yalom agrees to see Ginny on the basis that they will each write honest and open reports of each session, so he can create this book. We get an inside look into the passion and desire of a therapsit in his faciliatation of change, as well as, a deep look at a struggling patient admitting to her defenses, emotions, and maladaptive behaviors. A wonderful insight into the blossoming of a relationship that will change both therapist and patient. I highly recommend for anyone who is interested in the field of psychology.
Not quite as interesting as I expected.......2007-05-30
As I am not a student of psychology and not a therapist I read Yalom's books from a layman's point of view, as I find stories of personal development and change very interesting. However, I found this particular book to be somewhat tiresome and I must admit I got a bit bored as I longed for Ginny's process to move on. I guess that reading such detailed descriptions of each session was finally not as exciting as expected. I personally prefer to read the general story of a patient in Yalom's other books with tales of psychotherapy.
Making Sense of the Therapeutic Relationship.......2006-07-24
This is a very courageous book about a very courageous project. It touched me deeply. Brief entries from a master therapist and a writer patient in which each describes what happened for them in each session over a year or so personalize the therapeutic process. One can read a half dozen self help books about therapy and never come as near to understanding the meaning of the therapeutic relationship as well as in this book. While this is not Yalom's best book in literary terms - he was clearly still thinking about being a writer rather than being one - his willingness to expose his own feelings, needs and strategy as a man and a therapist to both the patient (who got to read his entries periodically) and reader is enriching. The book is a good exposition of Yalom's thesis that therapy is ultimately and primarily about the relationship between patient and therapist in which what goes on in the 45 minute hour is the most important element in healing.
Life...Or Something Like It.......2005-09-07
This is one of those books I couldn't wait to run back to. In those free moments between dishes and the bank, and the relaxed air of bedtime, I reveled in anticipation, because this book is like a talk with my best friend. Maybe better. Candor, humor and delightful poetic insights ramble through the hills and valleys of this therapeutic reality fest. I came away with a new sense of myself and the possibilities of my life. I will miss Dr. Yalom and Ginny. If you are looking for Mary Higgins Clark you're in the wrong place. If you're looking for a friend you don't want to let go, this is your lucky day.
not the best yalom has to offer..........2001-01-11
this was his book i was most excited to read, and while i think the concept is great, i don't think it really worked. the accounts were often long-winded and dull, and when there were little gems within that made it worth wading through, they were often hidden amidst pages of muck. i still think the idea behind the book is strong and could work, however, and i admire yalom for trying, but at the same time i wonder if it's not somewhat unethical to reveal so much to a patient about the therapist's feelings, and also to give her free therapy in exchange for writing for him - like, is it a conflict of interest on his part, and therefore countertherapeutic? also, the book doesn't really say if she got better in the long-term. i'm not so sure... still glad i read the book, but didn't honestly feel i got too much out of it. many of his other books are head and shoulders above this one...

This book is a great book for people trying to get closer relationships...it's very specific.
A word from the wise........2007-02-18
This book gave me brilliant insight into freindships and relationship building. It is a real privaledge to be able to learn from Alan McGinnis the keys to good frindships. These are tried and proved priciples and I thought the value placed on true fiendship and the practical examples were inspiring and helpful.
Using Jesus was not over the top as it gave us insight into someone most people know about and and an awesome example of how to live the ultimate life.
A real help to thoses who feel the need for richer frienships in this increasingly lonely world.
Can't even remember ordering.......2007-01-19
If I ordered this I wonder if I ever got it because I don't remember it.
Excellent.......2007-01-04
The book was easy to read, interesting with valuable information. It is a must for all couples wanting a Christian relationship.
Warms the heart and helps you remember what's really important in life........2006-12-30
One thought kept running through my mind while reading this book, "I can't believe I've been so busy that I've forgotten about the importance of friendships and caring for other people." This book redirected my ambitions so that I now am less selfish and more focussed on my relationships with other people. Everyone could benefit from reading this book.
