This book is amazng, with stories from cats all over the forest, including the healer from Tribe of Rushing Water, Bluestar, and Crowfeather. also has amazing lists of fighting moves and herbs! you will love it too!

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting, slighty lacking-.......2007-09-10

This is a very good book in the sense that many unexplained plot twists and signifigant events are mentioned in detail. It's also nice to have some of the secondary characters talking, however, some don't seem to be in the same "tense". The Clan's culture and rules are explained, which is useful for begginners to the series. However, don't read this unless you have finished book four of the New Prophecy (book ten in total). There are some spoilers for people who have not, which takes some of the begginner's interest out. My biggest complaint is a lack of a living/dead list. It can get very confusing, and that kind of thing could have easily fit into the "Starclan" section.
Still, this book is good for any Warriors fan, and anyone who might need a review of the basics as well.

5 out of 5 stars I thought it was a dictionary... It wasn't!.......2007-08-25

when i got this I figured it was just going to be a boring a dictionary with words and terms of the warrior cats but, I WAS WRONG AMIGO! let all warriors fans rejoice! the book is worth more than the cost and you will turn to it for every little thing!

5 out of 5 stars Warriors Feild Guide.......2007-08-23

I LOVED this book! It tells you everything you need to know! A lot of stuff that I didn't realize I was confused about was explained, and now I feel totally comfortable with the books. I'm even noticing new things! It's so cool! It even teaches you about LionClan, TigerClan, and LeopardClan! This is a must read!

ps: be careful, contains spoilers if you haven't read past Sunset.

Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting read.......2004-03-05

A facinating book regarding this particular topic. It seems to have been fairly well researched and the writing style was maintained my interest throughout.

Ironically, Emerson seems to fall prey to the very flaw he attaches to the subjects of this book;
"what happens when some men think they know what's best for the country".
Obviously authors like Emerson seem to think THEY know what's best for the country when they reveal leaked classified information in their writing without a regard to the men and women they are unknowingly placing in jeopardy.
But thanks to Emerson, at least if these operators are killed in the line of duty, we can rest easy knowing our own curiosity was satiated.

5 out of 5 stars Updated review.......2003-09-10

Most of the information contained here seems to have been cross checked with multiple sources. Mr. Emerson has produced a fascinating look at the capabilities and foibles of the special and covert operations community during the 80's. Highly recommended for folks wanting to learn more about the "silver age" of US special operations.

4 out of 5 stars Good historical foundation on US Special Ops.......2002-07-22

After waiting quite some time to get a copy, I found the book to be an interesting insight on the genesis of the US Special Ops community. Today, Emerson has capitalized on this early research and is now in the forefront of documenting terrorism. It would be interesting to see if he is utilizing many of the sources he obtained while writing this book.
I thought he had excellent sources, and many of these chapters could have been easily expanded into more in-depth stories. The Iran-Contra mess certainly weighed heavily while writing this book, and unfortunately, Emerson tried to cover the scandal without getting too bogged in that mess...that being said, I don't think he succeeded very well in drawing the ties between IRan-Contra and the organizations he covered so well throughout the book. Nevertheless, a must have for any library on US intelligence operations...a great read!

3 out of 5 stars Secret Warriors: Good little stories about Army Operatives.......2000-06-06

This book is the only one I have seen of its vintage which discusses operations of US Army counterintelligence agents. Some of the stories have been confirmed by people I have had the chance to speak with. Some of the the details were altered to protect certain items. Careful research of the ESP/PSI related bits in other publications may reveal differing views on the outcome of some operations.

It's relatively high level of veracity, easy flow, it was written at the 10th grade level, and humor made it a good read for anyone interested in this topic.

5 out of 5 stars Goverment Cover Up.......2000-02-05

Mr. Emerson sheds more light on the amount of cover ups the government has conducted. The book shows how scary our intelligence and covert operations apparatus is. Although most of the operations are hair brained schemes, it shows us how misinformed the public is to the true nature of out government.

4 out of 5 stars Not Griffin's best ever but still very good.......1999-11-17

This one by Griffin is well-worth checking out. I'm a big fan of current 90's style war novels like 'The Triumph and the Glory' and 'Going After Cacciato', I appreciate their candour and gritty reality. 'The Secret Warriors' is every bit as effective in this regard. The storytelling is first-rate, the characters memorable, and the plot keeps the reader turning the page to the end.

3 out of 5 stars Intresting, but not alot of action.......1999-08-18

5 out of 5 stars Terrific, a real 'page-turner"!.......1999-08-06

Once again, through the eyes of his fictional characters, W.E.B. Griffin allows the reader to imagine what it must have been like for 'real' people to have lived through experiences like those of Donovan, Canidy et al. I couldn't put this book down!

3 out of 5 stars Not his best book........1999-07-19

This is not the best book W.E.B. Griffin has written but if you want to continue reading the exploits of James Whittaker and Dick Canidy from Honor Bound, Blood and Honor and The Last Heroes it would be a worthwhile read.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding!!! Spell binding!!! Can't get enough!!!.......1999-07-08

Another work of art. Griffin has an uncanny ability to bring you into the story. I wouldn't put it down. I wish that it were longer. Griffin is by far the greatest author that I have ever read. I've read every book of every series except Men in Blue. I'm afraid to start that one. I might like it too much. Can't wait for the next one to come out.

Book Description

A renowned expert in Chinese sports medicine and martial arts reveals ancient Eastern secrets for healing common injuries, including sprains, bruises, deep cuts, and much more.

For centuries, Chinese martial arts masters have kept their highly prized remedies as carefully guarded secrets, calling such precious and powerful knowledge "a tooth from the tiger's mouth." Now, for the first time, these deeply effective methods are revealed to Westerners who want alternative ways to treat the acute and chronic injuries experienced by any active person.

While many books outline the popular teachings of traditional Chinese medicine, only this one offers step-by-step instructions for treating injuries. Expert practitioner and martial artist Tom Bisio explains the complete range of healing strategies and provides a Chinese first-aid kit to help the reader fully recover from every mishap: cuts, sprains, breaks, dislocations, bruises, muscle tears, tendonitis, and much more.

He teaches readers how to:

Comprehensive and easy to follow, with drawings to illustrate both the treatment strategies and the strengthening exercises, this unique guidebook will give readers complete access to the powerful healing secrets of the great Chinese warriors.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Easy to Follow Recipes / Practical Applications.......2007-05-28

I especially like Mr. Bisio's non-dogmatic approach. For example, many Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner's refuse to use ice based upon their principles of TCM. Tom's attitude is - use what works with the understanding of possible draw backs. This respects the reader's intelligence to come to their own informed decision.
The resources appendix is extensive and useful.
I plan on using several of the formulas in my massage and martial arts businesses for myself and clients.

5 out of 5 stars Great for external injuries.......2007-05-18

This is a must have in any TCM practitioners office. Helpful and quick references. You can also buy Tom's dit da jiu formulas if you don't want to soak, mix, and wait as he indicates. If you are into martial arts or athlete, you must have this to prevent serious injuries or heal old ones.

5 out of 5 stars Old but Still Good.......2007-04-16

This book is about how to treat injuries that an athlete might experience while competing or training to compete. The theory, the treatments and the materials used in the treatments are based upon Chinese traditional medicine which the author learned in his almost 30 years practicing martial arts in the United States and China. The author is highly qualified to write on this subject. He is a licensed practitioner of Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and herbalism.

The book is presented in four parts. Part I deals with the Principles of Chinese Sports Medicine; Part II deals with Injury Prevention by Exercise, Diet and Life Style; Part III summarizes the Therapies of Chinese Sports Medicine; and Part IV covers Treatments for Common Sports Injuries. Appendix 1 lists the components of a Chinese Sports Medicine First Aid Kit, and Appendix 2 lists sources for acquiring Chinese Herbs and Equipment.

Treatments, which cover 33 areas in alphabetical order, begin with Achilles' Tendonitis and end with Wrist Strain. Detailed information is provided on liniments, poultices, plasters, herbal soaks, acupoints, and massage.

In a number of instances, the Chinese treatment approach is at odds with Western medicine -- for example, to reduce the inflammation of a sprained ankle that is swollen, Western medicine recommends ice. Chinese medicine, which recommends using a Trauma Liniment, avoids the use of ice because ice has the side effect of reducing blood circulation and dissipating energy sent by the body to heal the damage done by the sprain.

A Tooth from the Tiger's Mouth is a reference book for dealing with common injuries using methods that have proven their worth over hundreds of years; it is a book that all martial artists should have in their library.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for the TCM Practitioner.......2007-04-09

Chinese medicine at its finest, this reference guide offers a complete at various injuries and treatments. The herbal formulas alone are priceless.

5 out of 5 stars Interesting subject matter.......2007-01-31

This book covers external injuries from a TCM perspective. This is a neglected area within TCM and there are very few TCM books devoted to bruises, tendon trauma and ligament damage. This book covers a very important, but under served area in TCM. The book includes an overall look at traumatology. It compares eastern and western concepts and finds extensive common ground. The book describes treatment methods that include Chi Gung, exercise and herbal treatments. The herbal treatments are both internal and external. The best part of the book in my opinion, are the herbal formulas. The author doesn't pull any "ancient secret" nonsense. The formulas for all of the herbal treatments are explicitly laid out with both Chinese and botanical names. Full preparation instructions are included. This is a great book and should serve to raise the bar for other authors.

5 out of 5 stars Best series EVER!.......2007-04-23

Wow. I can't believe it. I've finally found my perfect book! I mean, really, who couldn't love this feline-based fantasy? It's so suspenseful! The cats are so life-like! I was screaming at the top of my lungs at some parts, that's how much I thought it was really happening! Praise to Warriors! R.I.P! ( Read in peace!!!!!)

5 out of 5 stars Forest of secrets Revealed!.......2007-03-03

This is one of my favorite books in the series along with some twists. It's a can't put down and a two thumbs way up all at once. I'd reccomend theese books to anyone. espically if you like cats.

5 out of 5 stars shhh.......2007-02-02

Fireheart finally has proof that Tigerclaw isn't what Bluestar thinks he is. He rushes back to the clan to spread the news, but it's too late. Tigerclaw has already started attacking the Clan, with a group of rogue cats. He is planning to kill Bluestar in her den while the rogue cats attack, so that the rogue cats will take the blame, then become leader of the clan.....As you read this book, secrets will reveal the shocking truth. I HIGHLY recommend this book and you won't be sorry if you read it.

5 out of 5 stars The Secrets of the Forest.......2006-10-18

In the third Warriors book, Fireheart must find the answers to many secrets, though some of them are probably better left undiscovered. At the start of the book, Fireheart sneaks away to visit Ravenpaw, who is still at Barley's farm. Ravenpaw reveals that Oakheart had never been murdered at all, but simply crushed in a rockfall, and then Redtail was murdered by Tigerclaw.
The cats of RiverClan say the same thing, but with one problem solved, another one is beginning. In the battle, Redtail cornered Stonefur, and before he could wound him, Oakheart tore Redtail off and meowed, "No ThunderClan cat shall ever harm that warrior."
Everyday, new things are being discovered, including Silverstream's kits.
I think that this book had a really good plot, and excellent characters. The characters were very real and believable, and the cats were all wonderful and hilarious. I could not put this book down, and I continuosly read it. The only reason why I would not like this book would be because of the sadness, but it was very suspenseful and mysterious. The plot was very well thought of, and the characters were full of personality, humor, and reality.
Though there are many other Warriors books by Erin Hunter, Forest of Secrets is definetly the best of all of them. I suggest that everyone who wants to read a magnificent book reads this book.

Dan has created a series of stories with so many lessons, his books can be used lifelong. I share this book with my young athletes to help them prepare their emotions, minds, spirits & bodies for competitive sports & life ahead in "the real world." I highly recommend it to anyone active in helping to shape young people.

2 out of 5 stars Illustrations are pathetic.......2006-11-04

This may be a great story, but the illustrations are akin to something out of a public health brochure. It was a big disappointment.

5 out of 5 stars Hope for peace.......2006-03-29

This is a book that I have used over and over again to educate children in the way of peace. It was a book that I had gotten for my son when it first came out and have been sharing it ever since. It is such a connection with children and a way to deal with conflict and bullies.

5 out of 5 stars Great book for kids, and probably adults of all ages........2005-10-15

I love this book. I can read it a thousand times to/with my daughter. It's filled with heart, and simple wisdom. This book is great for everyone from athiest, or secular parents to deeply religious parents of all faiths...and of course to all of the rest of us that lie somewhere in the beautiful middle.
This book is just great. You will not regret buying this book for your son, daughter, niece, nephew, granddaughter, or grandson. I love the pictures, the flow, the simplicity, the message, and well I just love this book...I just wish that Millman wrote more children's books, and perhaps one with a girl protagonist...perhaps Daniela Miller, or something like that.
But if you are thinking about buying this book then do it. I am glad that I did. I was concerned at first about whether I would agree with the spirituality of the book, but low and behold there is nothing in this book to disagree with. It's all heart.
Thanks Dan..now get to work on another one with a girl protagonist.

5 out of 5 stars Inspirational and Great for all ages........2004-04-08

After reading Dan Millman's other work, I was excited to see there were children's books available. I have shared this book with my students, as well as teachers and it is a hit with everyone. It reinforced valuable lessons that teachers try to teach in the classroom. I have used this book with kids up to 8th grade.

3 out of 5 stars Fun read, but dangerous advice for use in the workplace..........2007-08-19

OK, up front I'll admit I had a fun time reading this... Leadership Secrets of the Rogue Warrior: A Commando's Guide to Success by Richard Marcinko. It's not your typical leadership book with polished words and concepts. It's raw, gritty, and will likely offend a few readers. But I'd think twice about trying to apply this "warrior mentality" to your business life. Odds are you'll end up hated, fired, or in jail...

Contents: The Rogue Warrior's Ten Commandments of SpecWar; Introduction, Chapters 1 through 10 - The Ten Commandments; Epilogue; A Note on Sources

The ten commandments are: 1) I am the War Lord and the wrathful God of Combat and I will always lead you from the front - not the rear. 2) I will treat you all alike - just like s***. 3) Thou shalt do nothing I will not do first, and thus will you be created Warriors in My deadly image. 4) I shall punish thy bodies because the more thou sweatest in training, the less thou bleedest in combat. 5) Indeed, if thou hurteth in thy efforts and thou suffer painful dings, then thou are Doing It Right. 6) Thou hast not to like it - thou hast just to do it. 7) Thou shalt Keep It Simple, Stupid. 8) Thou shalt never assume. 9) Verily, thou art not paid for thy methods, but for thy results, by which meaneth thou shalt kill thine enemy by any means available before he killeth you. 10) Thou shalt, in thy Warrior's Mind and Soul, always remember My ultimate and final Commandment: There Are No Rules - Thou Shalt Win at All Costs.

I had one misconception corrected quickly. I thought the "Rogue Warrior" was a fictional character used in novels written by Marcinko. I didn't know until I read this book that he really *was* the Rogue Warrior and was a successful covert soldier, adept at many types of warfare. Based on his experience and training, he distilled his beliefs into what you read here. From the perspective of someone going to war with a fellow fighter, this is exactly the type of person I'd want by my side... ruthless, creative, and willing to do whatever is needed to win and stay alive. But does that really translate to the business and personal lives of the readers? I hope not...

After each of his explanations of the principle being discussed, he gives an example of how it applies to war and how it applies to business. Generally, some of the concepts are true... train hard, get results, etc. But the "win at all costs" theme is the exact attitude that ended a lot of Enron executives (as well as others) in jail. Marcinko does try and say that you have to be honorable in the way you approach this, but it's normally followed by "breaking the rules to get results". I know what that is *supposed* to mean, but in reality it comes across as the end justifying the means. The argument would be that there's a line that shouldn't be crossed, but I'd venture that for many, that line is too blurred to be used as an accurate measuring point. Buying into this philosophy in an organization would make for a ruthless and brutal workforce, and not one that I'd like to return to day after day. And I suppose in Marcinko's eyes that would make me soft and worthless... oh, well.

If I were to step onto a combat field or a dojo, I'd want to adopt this mindset. But if I step into my workplace, there's a few more things to be considered than just raw "kill the enemy before he kills you" emotion.

5 out of 5 stars Really straight forward.......2006-11-27

I picked up this book after reading the reviews, and having read marcinko's strategy for success.
The clincher for me was, however, sparky999's review below.
If someone who tries to use words such as dicotomous (dichotomous), Nepolianic complex (Napoleonic Complex) and referring to Causawitz (Presumably Von Clausewitz) whilst totally messing them up is the sort of person who so desperately wants to be viewed as important end educated without actually putting the effort into being so.
Not that poor command of the english language is a crime, but attempting to use words that are usually only in the vocabulary of the highly educated, and not even bothering to check on their spelling or proper use is the sign of a person with poor attention to detail at best, and a complete fool at worst.

And in short, I thought that if this sort of person thought that Dick has no idea, then it's probably great stuff.

And I was right.

Ghandi said "Be the change you want to see in others", but Marcinko put's it a bit more succinctly saying "Lead from the front" It's not really much new, it's just a more direct delivery.

Leadership is about trust, comradeship and loyalty (Both ways) this is true in families, military units, business and even sporting teams. It's just the consequences of poor leadership are different.

i highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be the person that Gets things done. In a sentece this book says:
Get the job done to gain trust. Garner trust to create loyalty. Return loyalty to create leadership.
there is a lot more in it than that, but it's the simple and direct way he says it that grabs attention.

4 out of 5 stars No nonsense is colorful and interesting.......2004-03-18

This is the first "rogue warrior" book that I have read and I was instantly hooked. The principles that the author puts forward are simple and effective, driving home the overall messages very well. This book has helped me to think differently about what I do, where I work, and how I allow people to impact my day-to-day activities. In short, the book has pointed out that YOU are the only one who is in control of your career...that through proper training and preparation, you can be ready for anything...and that true leaders disregard the political ramifications and take decisive and definative stances - in spite of the trials that they will face.

The author is rough and gruff in terms of the language he uses -- so if you are easily offended, you should probably stay away. If you can handle the strong wording, then this book may be a good choice for you to "lead the charge" and take back your career.

5 out of 5 stars This is the good one............2002-03-23

Even if you are not the leader of your team/group/posse, whatever, this is a great book to help you to BECOME that leader. This is a straightahead, no nonsense book which makes you look at yourself and where you want to be, and what you want to do and best of all, makes you think. It is not an answer book, that is for sure, so be ready to think fast.

3 out of 5 stars Dick is not a businessman.......2001-11-15

Sorry, but I know Mr. Marcinko (on a casual basis) and I know many of his former TEAM warriors on a more professional basis. Dick is an EXCEPTIONAL conflict commander, but this skillset does not transfer to a business environment.

As much as middle managers want to beleive (and in some cases dickweed executive management) that they are warfighters within their overblown egos...they are not. Warfighting and business are two totaly dicotomous activities.

Business, by its nature, is meant to further the business goals of an organization. War, on the converse, is designed to subjugate an enemy. Tell me, is there any commonality? Doubtful. And, if business leaders actually find common theology with 'Dick', Sun Tsu, or Causawitz, then they need to enter physco therapy as soon as possible... a serious Nepolianic complex

In war, combatants are able to achieve objects by 'any means neccessary'. This is not the case in business, if for no other reason than human decency with interject boundries... I am not a fan of any military doctrine being applied to 'making money'...wrong, wrong wrong.

Other than the core of this book. the stories are fun, but have nothing to do with business... if they do, then we (as a nation) have moved into a sorry state of "win at any cost" and, that is very depressing.

Book Description

Unwittingly plunged into a paranormal nightmare....David Morehouse-A highly decorated, exemplary Army officer, special operations infantryman, and elite Airborne Ranger Company Commander. Wounded by machine-gun fire during a training mission, Morehouse began to have inexplicable visions and haunting nighmares-an experience that would redirect his military career and land him in the government's top-secret Stargate Program. His life would never be the same....Stargate-For nearly two decades, the United States military intelligence community delved into the dark world of psychic espionage, recruiting a team of psychic spies to serve as "remote viewers," individuals who used their paranormal gifts to transcend time and space and uncover the highly guarded military secrets of other nations.Unable to tell the shocking truth for fear of death-until now....When David Morehouse walked through the doors of the Stargate Program, he had little idea what awaited him: a paranormal hell that would bring him to the front lines of some of the most horrific disasters in recent history-and nearly destroy him. In chilling detail, Morehouse describes his psychic espionage work as a remote viewer, from the shattering explosion of Pan Am Flight 103 to the choking smoke of Desert Storm, even further back in time to Hiroshima and the darkest days of Nazi Germany. And more startling yet is his account of the U.S. government, an organization bent on the destructive use of psychic powers-and on stopping the one man who was brave enough to blow the lid off their top-secret Stargate Program.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Stargate dreaming.......2007-07-27

First up I must say if you are interested in the 'how-to' of remote viewing this is not the book for you as those details are noticeably missing from this text. We are told, for example, that while remote viewing it is possible to move the 'ethereal body' forward and backward in time and space around the viewed object, but not how that is done.

Rather than a detailed study of remote viewing this is the highly personal story of David Morehouse, an army officer who, after receiving a sever blow to the head, began experiencing visions and weird dreams. Morehouse's reaction to many of these 'communications' is very negatively emotional. In an attempt to understand and control the phenomenal he joins Sun Streak/Stargate, a secret psychic espionage program. After only 2 years there, however, he is transferred away by his army superiors who do not share his high opinion of the psychic program. The second half of the book deals with Morehouse's struggle to reveal remote viewing to the world and the intelligence community's attempts to stop him.

What is clear from the book is that Morehouse is a total believer in remote viewing. For just about the entire book he gives an emotional response to the phenomena, but virtually no objective analysis of its' validity. The book covers some way-out-there topics including, angels, demons, spirits of the dead, viewing alien life, and viewing the Arc of the Covenant. I couldn't help wondering if Morehouse was just projecting the contents of his consciousness, especially as he openly admits he is religious and also because he is so powerfully emotive. I would have preferred a much more scientific approach with perhaps a dose of healthy skepticism.

I have give the book 4 stars as it is entertaining and very readable, but perhaps I have been a bit overgenerous considering the lack of objectivity.

1 out of 5 stars Pure egotistical, twisted accounts of the truth........2007-04-06

This book is exactly that. I know Mr. Morehouse and one of the people he writes about in this book... my father, Mel Riley. All I can say is, you should read Paul Smith's accounts if you want the truth pertaining to the Stargate and RV stories. There is also a documentary, if you can find it, made be Discovery BBC called "The Real X-files" featuring a true and honest view of RV and it's history with the military and all those involved. Giving this book much more than 1 star is really admitting lack of intelligence.

1 out of 5 stars Doesn't add up.......2006-10-08

This book could have been an interesting novel, but that's about it. Way too many inconsistencies...like the carbon monoxide incident. Yes, carbon monoxide is an odorless gas, but the exhaust of a "Briggs and Stratton" engine is far from odorless. The fact that his daughter suffered carbon-monoxide poisoning and was rushed to the hospital, (her lips were blue), yet the firemen allowed the rest of them to remain in the house while they "aired" it out. Six hours later (after being delayed from the hospital for an hour and a half) David went to pick up his wife and daughter...YEAH RIGHT!!! As a diesel mechanic I know all too well the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning...it takes a long time to get over it.
His whole mission was to reveal remote viewing to "save mankind", and can now be learned from him at $1,200 a class. What a humanitarian!!!
Also his mentor and good friend, Mel Riley, is working with Lyn Buchanan instead of Mr. Morehouse. In this book 5 + 5 = 12.

5 out of 5 stars Secret Psychic Military Program - Remote Viewing.......2006-06-06

In one of the most explosive revelations in decades, the military's strange and top-secret program that used military personnel to spy on people by psychic "remote viewing"--former Army officer David Morehouse goes public with his book "Psychic Warrior - Inside the CIA's Stargate Program: the True Story of a Soldier's Espionage and Awaking."

The tale that Morehouse has to tell goes well beyond the normal range of what we think our military and the CIA is doing. Not only has our country been active in its research on psychic abilities--we have in fact, be been successfully getting information about people and places by the practice of something called "remote viewing" which allows our military to access any place in the world (or out of this world) by using just the mind.

This book goes into great details as to how Morehouse got himself involved in the program and how he eventually got kicked out of the Army for making it public. His personal struggles with his own mind, his family and the Army makes this story read like a sci-fi novel. This book will take the reader to a whole new world (universe) and open up many more questions about the power of the mind, what is reality and what is life.

I have only talked to David Morehouse on one occasion a couple of years ago at one of his public lectures in San Francisco, but the lecture only just added more to the mystery of this mystical life story. I highly recommend reading his book.

This book has earned the MWSA's TOP RATING - FIVE STARS

2005 Gold Medal Award for Military Non-Fiction!

1 out of 5 stars Angels and Demons and BS, Oh My!.......2006-04-05

I will admit that I too read this book cover-to-cover and was intrigued by its story. The problem is, I became so engaged that I began doing subsequent research into the field of remote viewing and, appropriately enough, began to "see the truth." Psychic Warrior is a highly fictionalized, exxagerated, self-serving vehicle for its disgraced author to exploit his fleeting brush with the RV program for money.

David Morehouse had the shortest tenure of any of the Army's remote viewers who have gone on to make a living as "experts" on the technique. According to those fellow viewers, most of the "exploits" in RV that Morehouse takes credit for in this book were actually accomplished by other people. The best example is his "Mars expedition," which was in fact conducted by Joe McMoneagle. An actual transcript of Joe's session is available as a bonus with purchase of Skip Atwater's book "Captain of My Ship, Master of My Soul" and it more or less proves that Morehouse is trying to take credit for someone else's work. The Psychic Warrior book is full of events and accomplishments that Morehouse tries to take credit for, most of which actually occured when Morehouse wasn't even in the program.

In fact, most of the revered remote viewers (McMoneagle, Ingo Swann, Russell Targ, Paul Smith) seem to consider Morehouse to be the RV community's "odd man out," especially after he was forced out of the Army for having an affair with his enlisted driver's wife among other things. That part of the book is even more suspect; Morehouse continually makes excuses for himself and tries to paint himself as a victim of some sort of government plot as a result of his threat to "expose the truth" about RV, instead of taking accountability for his illegal and immoral actions.

But two facts must be considered here: First, the Army itself declassified the program and released mountains of information about it; it is highly doubtful that they would make attempts on the lives of Morehouse's entire family over something they were already planning to open the lid on. Second, practically every other significant member of both the SRI program and the military's program has gone on to write books, author instructional materials and even teach courses in remote viewing, and not a single other one has been "targeted" by higher powers as Morehouse claims to have been.

If anyone out there is interested in reading about remote viewing and its history within both the civilian science sector and the military/government, I would highly recommend that you read Paul Smith's "Reading the Enemy's Mind" instead of Morehouse's fictionalized waste of time. Smith, who acted as unit historian for the Army's program, provides an infinitely more reliable, intelligent and engaging account of the development and implementation of remote viewing. And if you would then be inclined to study the technique yourself, I would suggest you examine Skip Atwater's course at the Monroe Institute in Virginia before plunking down the $1,000 + to study with Morehouse. After all, Atwater spent years training most of the viewers in a program that Morehouse was kicked out of after only a brief time.

I wouldn't have had such a problem with Psychic Warrior if it had been marketed as a work of fiction. It is a shame that such a perversion of the truth ends up being many people's initial introduction to something as significant to humankind as remote viewing.

Book Description

The leading historian of SOG, the elite commando unit in Vietnam, tells the astonishing story of the SOG warriors who penetrated enemy lines in operations directed at the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

The warriors of SOG -- code-named the Studies and Observations Group -- were a secret operations force in Vietnam, the forerunner of today's Delta Force and SEALs. Highly skilled Green Berets, they were the bravest of the brave, the most highly decorated unit in the war. Chief among their activities was observing the Ho Chi Minh Trail, the main North Vietnamese supply route into South Vietnam, and disrupting its operations. SOG warriors secretly penetrated deep into Laos and Cambodia to identify bombing targets, destroy troops, ambush trucks, mine roads, and, in their most difficult assignment, capture North Vietnamese soldiers for intelligence purposes.

Operating in the most dangerous conditions imaginable -- always outnumbered, often by as much as 100 to 1 -- SOG commandos matched wits with an un-relenting foe that hunted them with trackers and dogs. They suffered an extraordinarily high casualty rate. Ten entire teams disappeared and another fourteen were overrun and annihilated. Many of the missions run by SOG fighters were rescues and attempted rescues of fellow soldiers and downed helicopter pilots who supported SOG missions.

In Secret Commandos, a riveting account of his years in SOG from 1969 to 1971, John Plaster describes his own remarkable covert missions as well as those of dozens of his comrades. He takes readers from his grueling training for SOG to his heart-stopping first assignments to his experiences as a SOG veteran and team leader. Even as SOG's field of operations became more limited late in the war, these accomplished warriors continued to give their all, fighting for each other.

5 out of 5 stars I couldn't put it down.......2007-05-18

I had chills after reading the first three pages. The action is incredible. I was on pins and needles, like it was all happening for the first time right in front of me. Plaster also conveyed his love for his friends through these pages. There were several places that I cried just for feeling the sacrifice of these incredible, selfless warriors. I love this book.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book!.......2007-02-19

I loved this book- couldn't put it down. I liked it even better than Maj. Plaster's other book, 'SOG-The Secret Wars of America's Commandos in Vietnam', which was itself a doggone fine book. Based on what I've read to this point, this is the difinitive book on SOG in Vietnam. But I did come away with a question after reading it: How did those guys move through the jungle so quietly with cannonballs for gonads?

4 out of 5 stars I had no idea.......2007-01-12

I am not old enough to remember the tail end of Vietnam. Most of what I know came from history class or the movies. But this book allowed me to read about a part of the Vietnam war, I did not know existed. In fact, I believe a lot of people had no idea what was taking place in Cambodia and in Laos during this time period. Special forces, secret missions, thousands of North Vietnamese in "de-militarized" areas and only the Green Berets to keep them in check. Experience the first hand accounts of american special forces units as they are dropped deep behind enemy territory only to be hunted and attacked by forces who outnumber them significantly. Overall, the book is extemly interesting and a different kind of read. Real soldiers in real situtations, where any mistep means death.

5 out of 5 stars Extraordinary bravery wasted in Washington.......2006-08-26

Having spent more than enough time in SEA before Plaster got there, I could relate to his willingness to fight the good fight to fight Communist aggression since I've been there and done that.
What was truly remarkable about this book is that despite the fact that his efforts to win the battles on the field of battle were really for naught, he does not spend much time dealing with the "cut and run" crowd in Washington who made any victory impossible. The willingness of his teams to insert into the forbidden zones of Cambodia and Laos in order to protect the boots on the ground further down the Ho Chi Minh trail, at a time when Congress shaking in its shoes seems remarkable even to this day. The personal stories to confront the enemy in the face of almost certain death will leave you shaking your head. But this is the military that one former president "loathed" as he visited Moscow and committed a felony in lying to his draft board in order to maintain his "political viability."

The bravery and dedication of men like Plaster was not only undermined, but desecrated as the draft dodgers and phony heroes with four months of service in the theater went back to testify in front of Congressional committees who did more to assist the Viet Cong than anything that the Soviets or Chinese did at the time. What a waste of brave men who gave their all while those who gave nothing rose to elected office on the bodies of their fellow Americans. Plaster names all the brave men who died during his tour of duty as he sings "Hey Blue" to acknowledge their deaths, and it is a list far too long. His detailed accounts of his many missions would make a great movie, but Hollywood has no taste for true bravery when it has important issues to deal with, like orcas in a tank.

This is a well written book, but it is too kind to those who stabbed men like Plaster and his fellow SOG teammates in the back and dishonored their patriotism and sacrifice. But nothing has changed. The same kind of heroism is being undermined today as politicians in Washington demand a similar end in Iraq, without a single minute of thought to their last "victory" in ending the war in Vietnam, costing millions of lives as they ran away. But their grandfathers did the same when they carried Chamberlain on their shoulders as he delivered "Peace in our time" and sent 80,000,000 humans to their deaths in the process.

5 out of 5 stars Another great read..........2006-08-14

While both of Plaster's other books outline the historical aspects of this unit, I feel closer to these men, in a way, after reading this book. I can almost hear Pete "Fat Albert" Wilson bursting through the door bellowing "Wine for my troops," and I can nearly place Bob Howard's raked smile after defying the odds along the Trail.

While John's other books stand alone in their own historical significance to SOG, this book delivers the intensity of sudden combat and the heartbreaking tragedy of losing close friends like Pete Wilson, Fred Krupa, and Chuck Hein.

All of John's books have proven to be an invaluable asset to my research on SOG.
