To longtime sales and customer-service pro Jeffrey Gitomer, boasting about a near-perfect customer-satisfaction rating of 97.5 percent is a major mistake. "That means 2.5 percent of your customers are mad and they're telling everyone. And 97.5 percent of your customers will shop anyplace the next time they go to market for your product or service." Based on a philosophy that's been developed through his syndicated business columns and the more than 150 seminars that he gives each year to companies such as Radisson, Sony, NationsBank, and Time Warner Cable, the book outlines his formula for making customers so faithful they "will fight before they switch--and they will proactively refer people to buy from you." Regularly employing oversized type in screaming bold fonts to grab the reader's attention, Gitomer breathlessly recounts his start-to-finish approach to becoming "memorable" to consumers along with illustrative tales of his own encounters with particularly egregious examples of poor service. All of this is bolstered by an ongoing sampling of his inspirational quips and a variety of self-evaluating quizzes designed to pinpoint individual strengths and weaknesses. Take a deep breath, read it straight through, and prepare to delight thy customer! --Howard Rothman

Handbook of Customer Loyalty.......2007-10-08
The title of this book could easily be, "The Handbook of Customer Loyalty." This book is outstanding. The author has successfully dissected every aspect of business life and addressed how each affects customer loyalty. Gitomer provides numerous good and bad examples for each segment as well as numerous bullet points to consider. In addition, there are a number of self-evaluation tests to indicate areas of personal improvement. I consider this book more of an invaluable resource than a book to read and put on my bookshelf. Not only have I read this book twice, but I plan on reviewing it semi-annually to make sure I am on track with what must be hundreds of directly applicable examples, suggestions and guidelines. It would be impossible to read this book without realizing dozens of methods to improve your own business relationships.
Tell Everyone You Know.......2007-05-30
Easy read, great information. Solid tips. Relates to all sales jobs, and All Sales associates who "want" to succeed, will get it!
Awsome Read!!!.......2007-05-26
I was able to apply some of his ideas on the very next customer that came into my store! This is a MUST READ for the way a customer service employee (or boss) should treat every customer - whether on-line or in-person. This should be required reading in every business class in the country.
This will keep you on your toes.......2007-02-20
Just a fabulous book about customer service. Fun, practical and inspiring to say the least. I email some of the best ideas out to our team every day. I am really enjoying this book!
Customer service....who really can define it?.......2007-01-19
This book is very easy to read. I personally read it in less than 1 week because all the recomendations and practical advices of Gitomer really are sense common and any organization would have a tremendous benefit if do apply at least the 40% of the customer service rules listed by this book. Also offers information about why the customer satisfaction is the lowest level for a long term relationship and why a loyal customer should be the goal to get for any person involved in the sales and marketing world. Highly recommended.

Book Description
Born into slavery in 1831 on Retreat Plantation, St. Simons Island, Neptune became the childhood friend and servant of plantation heir Henry Lord King. Their devoted friendship, which finally evolved into a shared struggle to survive on the Civil War battlefields, is an inspiring example of how two men from completely different backgrounds can stand united as brothers in times of sacrifice and tragedy. This historical account of courage, honor, compassion and loyalty accurately chronicles family records of the man they called Neptune.
Award winning author Pamela Bauer Mueller has dreamed of introducing her readers to the history of Georgia's Golden Isles ever since she became a resident of coastal Georgia. In Neptune's Honor, she offers the unforgettable story of a noble servant named Neptune Small.

Neptune's Honor.......2005-04-21
Neptune's Honor is a book that is a must read. This story gives the reader a bird's eye view of how slavery was practiced in many areas of the south rather than the stereotypical master/slave relationship which is current popular belief. Although the practice of slavery is not ethical, it is a factual part of the history of this country. The founding fathers owned slaves and many raised slaves to positions of trust & honor within their households. Slavery was as appropriate for those times as was a lack of women's rights. We can't change history but we must know all of the facts of history in order to understand who we are today. Neptunes' Honor affords us that opportunity since it is based on factual research. This book, based on actual documents of Neptune Small & his family, is a learning tool in the form of interesting reading. The art of "slave-speak" was a common method of communication among the slaves & workers on the plantations because of the multicultural environments in which the slaves lived. It afforded them a sense of privacy and control. Living in the south, where slave labor was common during colonial times, there are still remnants of that sub-language. Ms. Mueller has done an outstanding job in her efforts to convey how life was on a specific plantation without encouraging us to think that slavery was acceptable to everyone. It was simply a part of history as it was lived. Her inclusion of characters who depicted the degrading side of the slave issue lets us remember how poorly some slaves were treated. Neptune's Honor brings all of that to us now in such a way as to show the horror of slavery as well as a glimpse of those individuals of color who rose above being slaves in their own right. Just as the uncaring slave owners & traders treated humans as beasts of burden, this book recalls the memoirs of a man who rose above slavery. He allowed love, loyalty and friendship to govern the character of his life.Neptune's Honor is a book I have felt good about reading. Bravo to Ms. Mueller for taking on such a project and giving us such enjoyment.

Neptune's Honor.......2005-04-15
This beautiful story of devoted friendship, based on the history of coastal Georgia, is a reading treasure for both adults and children. Ms. Bauer Mueller has enlivened dialogue by including original Gullah-Geechee "black-speak" dialect, as well as rhythmic slave spirituals and work songs. There is a wealth of learning material here to promote discussion and unique essay projects. Slavery is handled in a tender yet realistic manner, opening a new door of understanding the struggles of our African American ancestors.

Wonderful!.......2005-01-19
Neptune's Honor is a story for everyone. It is a touching story, filled with delightful anectodes of a slave and his master, more like brothers, growing up together and sharing their lives and dreams during some difficult historical times. It is a story about brotherly love, undying devotion, and family ties that in some instances are thicker than blood. It will make you smile, laugh, cry and be melancholy all at the same time. To be enjoyed by young and old.
Honoring my Great-Great Grandfather.......2005-01-07
As a descendant of Neptune Small and a student of coastal Georgia history, I'm delighted that this story has been written in honor of my great-great-grandfather's heroism. "Neptune's Honor" touched me deeply. I felt as though I were there with Neptune experiencing his life, listening to the subtle billowing of the atlantic, smelling musty earth oders of the island marshes and feeling the ocean breezes as they blew on Neptune's St. Simons Island. While "Neptune's Honor" is a very touching and powerful story of love, loyalty and honor, it is based on the life of a privileged slave, and in no way represents the level of intense bondage and deprivation endured by the vast majority of my enslaved ancestors.

Book Description
With The Little Red Buckets, author Lynda M. Nelson inspired readers with a simple but extraordinary story of family and giving. She made us believe in guardian angels and everyday miracles. And she touched us with a universal message of love. Now, with My Master's Touch, this remarkable storyteller has created a parable for all ages--a beautiful retelling of the story of Jesus, as seen through the eyes of a burro named Meshak.
A faithful and loving companion, Meshak follows and serves Jesus throughout His life. In time the burro grows to understand the importance of the light that Jesus strives to kindle in people's souls. Ultimately Meshak comes to realize that Jesus is like the oil that fills a lamp, guiding our way out of the darkness... and into the light of eternal love.
My Master's Touch is a timeless tale that is destined to become a beloved part of every reader's life. A story to be read aloud and cherished, a gift to be passed down from generation to generation.
Customer Reviews:
A wonderful experience.......2000-12-03
Lynda M. Nelson is blessed with the true gift of story telling. After reading "The Little Red Buckets", I decided to try "My Master's Touch". I knew the story was about a burro named Meshak and his life with his master's family. What I didn't know and was greatly impressed with was how the story was handled. The author never really tells whom the burro belongs to, or what is really going on in the master's family, the story is told from the burro's perspective, and the author lets the reader piece together the scenes which lead to very emotional conclusions for both the master and his burro. This may be listed as a juvenile story, but don't mistake it for a cute burro tale with cute colorful pictures. The burro has a youthful, yet experienced narrator's voice, and the tale, meant for all ages, has a heart felt moral to it that the reader must discover for him or her self. Have a box of Kleenex for this Nelson book as well.
The book itself is very well put together with a beautiful dustcover, and the small hardback is just right for the small hands.

"Love & Loyalty" tells an uplifting story (Reviewed by Sam Cacas.......2006-03-21
Beyond Money, Power, Respect: Author Deborah Mayer's Latest Tome tells an uplifting story reviewed by Sam Cacas
Love & Loyalty by Deborah Mayer (Triple Crown Publications: Columbus, Ohio 2006), paperback, 258pp.
Where and at what point does one draw the line between love and loyalty? This is a recurrent question that is raised throughout the pages of Deborah Mayer's latest tome. And protagonist Javon Williams faces this fateful question of choice the most as he skirts the contrast between living in the game and trying to go legit.
Seemingly, the choice of the latter would appear to be a no-brainer to most okey-doke, straight-arrow folks out there: how could anyone not feign a lifestyle of being an up and coming record producer with a friend from the past and managing cutting-edge talent? That good life was quite attractive to Javon, as opposed to the game of selling drugs and other hustles - a grind that Javon is tired of.
But like many fateful questions in life, this one has complexities melded into Javon's prior lifetime of hustling - most particularly, his association with his lifelong buddy Derrick and fellow hustler.
A related choice Javon faced was whether to keep it real and stay true to Peaches, his stripper girl (aka Patricia Wells) friend who'd remained loyal to him throughout, or to continue being a playa? Throughout this novel, Javon wanders in and out being a do-right man for Peaches and making more than one play at up-and-coming singer Fatima Amir who reluctantly falls for his seductive - bordering on forceful - sexual quid pro quo while she is trying to sign with his record company.
While Mayer's tome portrays not too uncommon characters and occurrences we urban dwellers have experienced in the game, it is truly alluring and inspiring that she paints all participants in this modern, urban drama in their most humane element: Javon's recurring dream and intention to eventually live a clean life; Peaches' persistent daydream to find a man who doesn't step out on her. Such character shaping sets up the innumerable plot twists throughout this novel and make it a recommended read for those who desire to be enlightened about folks whom the media repeatedly paint as the hopelessly lumpen elements who are a dangerous menace to society. And for telling this story so compellingly, Mayer deserves kudos as well as many, many readers.

It was alright........2006-03-08
This book was not all that bad, it was interesting and I finished it. It did move kind of slow in a lot of parts. It's really just the story of a young hustla named Javon tying to make the switch from drugs to the music biz. Javon's partna Derrick can't see life without the streets, Peaches is a stripper wanna be video ho who wants Javon to put her on. Fatima is an up and coming singer with a troubled past and an incredible voice. All these people's lives are on a colloision course thanks to jealousy and hate.

Book Description
Bestselling author Malachy McCourt recounts the story of Ireland's timeless symbol of loyalty, friendship, and love, a ring design of two clasped hands that is worn by millions worldwide. Following the success of his Running Press titles Danny Boy and Voices of Ireland, McCourt explores this beloved icon of Irish heritage through vivid anecdotes, charming folk tales, and recent documented incidents. Said to have been first crafted more than 400 years ago in a fishing village on Galway Bay, there is much more to the story of the Claddagh ring than simple popular history, and McCourt tracks it down and recounts it with his stellar storytelling finesse.
Customer Reviews:
Claddagh Your Friends and Lovers.......2006-05-24
This story is incredibly beautiful. The story of the ring and of the town is really a tribute to the power of love and friendship which both are keys in any kind of relationship from lover to wedding partner to friends of every kind. This book captures the spirit of Ireland, especially Galway Bay where the town of Claddagh provides the setting for the story.
Cherished Symbol of Friendship.......2004-12-29
The hands are there for friendship,
The heart is there for love.
For loyalty throughout the year,
The crown is raised above
It is extremely rare to find a friend who wants to be friends forever, but when you find them, this is the ring to buy. A Claddagh (klada) ring can be given to friends and is the world's cherished symbol of friendship, love and loyalty.
The happiest day in my life is definitely the day I received a Claddagh Ring. Not only are these rings eternal symbols of friendship, it is a poetic and beautiful representation of love that is steeped in mysterious legends and lore.
The ring is named after a fishing village and Malachy McCourt does a fine job of explaining all the stories surrounding this mysterious ring. This book is filled with stories of Vikings, Algerian Pirates, Legendary Fishermen, Superstitions, Traditions and stories of Mary of the Bridges.
This book is really as much a history of Claddagh as it is about the ring named after the village. It also sheds light on the inventor and how he created the ring while in captivity. Malachy McCourt weaves a fascinating tapestry of stories with humor and a deep interest the history and culture of Ireland.
What amazed me most was the story of 9/11 and how so many Claddagh rings were found on that day. Not only does this ring make its appearance in romantic tales, it has more recently made its appearance in great tragedy. Perhaps it is also now the symbol of the joining of hands to heal hearts.

Book Description
By scheming and theft, the Thief of Eddis has become King of Attolia. Eugenides wanted the queen, not the crown, but he finds himself trapped in a web of his own making.
Then he drags a naive young guard into the center of the political maelstrom. Poor Costis knows he is the victim of the king's caprice, but his contempt for Eugenides slowly turns to grudging respect. Though struggling against his fate, the newly crowned king is much more than he appears. Soon the corrupt Attolian court will learn that its subtle and dangerous intrigue is no match for Eugenides.
Customer Reviews:
My Absolute Favorite of the Attolia Books!.......2007-10-09
Ok, I'm going to try to give out as few spoilers as possible for any of the Attolia books! Let's see how this goes.
King of Attolia is by far my favorite of all the Attolia books! In fact, it's one of my favorite books of all time. Romance, humor, action, court intrigue...what else could you want? While it has less of the action and quests aspect of the first two books, I think it's much more interesting in terms of the relationships between the characters.
This book is told through the eyes of Costis, a young palace guard who hates his new king. And why shouldn't he? The king is one-handed, incapable, and disrespectful. He must have gotten the queen to marry him through cunning and deceit, because they obviously don't love each other. But when Costis loses his temper with the new king, his "punishment" is to serve the king more intimately. Against his will, he begins to respect and even love his lord as he discoveres there really is MUCH more to the king than meets the eye. But will the rest of the court ever see the king for who he really is, or will he continue to play the incompetent fool forever? And can the country afford to have a king who seems so incompetent?
Eugenides is as mischievous and lovable as ever, though he can't quite shake off his former role of the Thief. And as usual, it's hard to figure out at first exactly how much of his act is reality. Although Attolia becomes more likeable in the second book, I didn't truly love her until this one. Here, you see both her strengths and her weaknesses, and you find that she is not nearly as cold as some have portrayed her as. In fact, she is a wonderful match for her new husband. Costis, Teleus, and Relius are all characters you come to appreciate and care about, despite their many faults. And while Eddis and the Magus don't play much of a role in the story, readers of the previous books will be glad to hear that they make a few brief appearances!
The ending of the book doesn't have the same surprising twist as the first two, but that doesn't make it any less powerful. And by no chance does it mean that there are any fewer layers of complexity. In fact, I would argue there are more. Out of the three books, this is the one I keep coming back to, and every time I discover something new.
There are lose ends to be tied up in The King of Attolia, though all the elements essential to the story have been wrapped up and it definitely doesn't feel like a cliffhanger. The author has confirmed that a fourth book is planned, though it may be awhile in coming. I can hardly wait!
An awesome sequel.......2007-08-24
Megan Whalen Turner seems to have mastered the trick of writing sequels worth of their predecessors. I loved The Thief, and The Queen of Attolia, and The King of Attolia is just as awesome. The characters are complex, endearing, intelligent, and the plot is clever, satisfying, and unpredictable. Writing like this reminds me what we're capable of.
Bravo for The King of Attolia.......2007-08-22
Having read and loved The Thief and to be followed with all the marvelous and clever twists in the Queen of Attolia, I did not know if it was possible to be surprised, and satisfied by a third book with two amazing and original predecessors to top, although the twists in the Queen of Attolia gave us even more of a glimpse at Megan Whalen Turner's breadth. But happily I was EVEN MORE ENTHRALLED by the King of Attolia, as original and unpredictable as the first two, full of more sophistication and intrigue and hilarity. Megan Whelan Turner outdoes herself in continuing to expand on her characters: Eugenides, who is quirky and irreverent, ridiculous in feinging the idiot, but is brilliant nonetheless; and the Queen, who took off Eugenides' hand in the last book when he was captured, and is now his wife, is one whom we come to understand in her ruthlessness as a match for Eugenides and whom we come to love as we see the relationship of the King and Queen unfold under the scrutiny of the stuffy court as well as in private; Costis, poor pawn that he is, is likeable in his staunch loyalty and honor and who comes to love the King in the end. The unravelling and overcoming of the corruption in the Attolian court by the hand of Eugenides (in record time)with its unexpected outcomes is shear genius of writing.
Megan Whalen Turner is no lightwight fluff-writer, but a savvy writer who is at home in her element and understands her art. I was spellbound by the depth of Megan Whelan Turner's writing. The recurring theme of transformation, redemption and change of perceptions pervades the entire series. Our perceptions as readers turn topsy turvy and completely alter from one extreme to its complete and unexpected opposite as we were first introduced to Eugenides as a convict, dirty, uncultured gutter-spawn in the first book, The Thief, and who then is revealed throughout the series to be so much more, a member of the royal family of Eddis, a scholar, the Thief of His Majesty, the Queen of Eddis, only to find himself affecting a series of events, as a matter of State of (and of his unmitigated attraction and ironic love) to thus wed the beautiful Queen of Attolia, the woman who took off his hand, to become King of Attolia (this is such a clever version of the whole, sizzling arch enemy attraction thing which turns into a refreshingly different but touching love story.) In addition, change happens within the story as characters within the story change their perceptions of eachother turn topsy turvy as well. The Magus in the first book changes from enemy to respected friend. Costis like all other characters changes his perceptions of the king, from one guilty of possible treason, to loyal defender of the King. The Queen changes from bloodthirsty merciless sovereign (who again took off his hand) to a strong but tender wife, and one willing to compromise and grant mercy. And most of all, Eugenides, having gone through a transformation from handicapped idiot to king, not only redeems himself, but has the power to grant redemption to those around him. While life and people have dealt him a wicked blow, somehow, he in his unconventional way is able to get over it, "stop whining" and emerge on top. Megan Whelan Turner presents this them in a wholly uncliche and fresh manner and she makes my list of favorite authors, along with Stephanie Meyer and Jonathan Stroud.
My prediction (and hope) is that a 4th book must be coming since the issue of Sophos, the heir of Sounis in unresolved: he is still missing, captured or dead, and there was speculation that young Sophos may marry Eddis. If not, there ought to be another installment, and I hope there will be a whole string in the series to follow! Few series have been as satisfying! LONG LIVE THE KING!!!
Thief to King.......2007-08-08
This is the third book in a series. It is more sophisticated than the first novel and concerns politics more than the first two books. The Thief is presents a younger man who is concerned for himself. The Queen of Attolia move further away in focus, but deals with relationships. The King of Attolia moves even further away from Gen the thief. He has new responsibilites and concerns, but the reader is further separated from the character. This novel can be read without reading the first two, but they do put this book in perspective.
Beautiful, smart, funny: Instant Classic.......2007-08-01
After Megan Whalen Turner's Eugenides series, I have been spoiled for smart fantasy. Starting with the first book, The Thief, I was hooked, and finally struck gold after perusing "children's book" for my fantasy shelf.
The first book was first person, second was third but still focalized through Eugenides. The third takes the reader one more step backwards and shows our favorite thief through the eyes of a guardsman who has no respect for his new king, and slowly realizes the King's true mettle.
Exceptionally fine writing makes this third part a joy to read. As the events are narrated through Costis the guard, every act and word has a double, triple meaning, that clearly unfolds as the book progresses. The story shows us how carefully Eugenides wins over the court of Attolia, with seemingly ridiculous and even buffoonish tricks and ploys, and above all, infinite patience. His relationship with the Queen is touching and wry and one of the most beautiful love stories I've seen in a while, deftly done with none of the tired cliches that send "children" readers running rightfully away from "grownup" romance in their books.
Above all, The King of Attolia is FUNNY. Smart and funny, from Eugenides's machinations, to his conversations with Costis, the Queen, and his gods. The tone of the book is gentle mannerpunk, and as soon as I finished the whole series in an afternoon, I was reading it over again from the beginning.
When a book has made me laugh more than a dozen times from sheer joy, cry over injustice, then right it again so beautifully that it makes me want to read it again and again, I'd say: instant classic.

Unfounded Loyalty offers a profound look at the influences that have shaped the cultural development of modern Black America. The book reexamines historic assumptions about the role of Christianity and the Democratic Party as supporters of civil-rights and black voters. In an investigative style, Perryman reveals shocking events and deceptions which are part of America's untold history. Unfounded Loyalty is a compelling, well researched and documented historical study.

Incredible book - a MUST READ for all conservatives.......2006-04-25
I had some idea about the history of the Democratic Party and black America, but only in pieces. This book is a collection of facts all in one place...VERY WELL WRITTEN, Perryman covers all the bases - good, bad & ugly. I hope the G.O.P. will set aside money to have this guy in speaking forums all over the country. The Democrats can't hide behind smiles and ambiguities; the facts speak for themselves. LOVED THIS!!!
Democratic Myths.......2006-01-15
In his review of this book R. Lau attempts to "prove" that all Republicans are racists by misquoting Barry Goldwater's famous acceptance speech at the 1964 Republican Convention. Lau "quotes" Goldwater as saying that "Extremism in defense of SEGREGATION is no vice." Every sentient American knows tat what Goldwater actually said was this: "Extremism in defense of LIBERTY is no vice." Barry Goldwater was no racist. And neither is the Republican Party
This dishonest attempt to portray Republicans as racists has been perpetrated by the Democratic Party for the past thirty years. Anyone who watched the performance of Democratic Senators like Teddy Kennedy in the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Judge Sam Alito appointment to the Supreme Court this week has witnessed the absurd and dishonest lengths to which they are willing to go to perpetuate that myth.
What the Rev. Perryman points out in this book is that for over a hundred years from 1854 to 1964 the Republican Party was the sole champion of emancipation, of equal rights for blacks, of putting an end to racial segregation, and of anti lynching laws; while the Democrats precipitated and fought a civil war to preserve slavery, enacted and enforced the Jim Crow laws that created the segregated South, and invented and repeatedly used the Senate filibuster to block the enactment of anti lynching bills introduced by Republicans.
It is true that by the 1960s the effort to end segregation and discrimination had become a bi-partisan effort. Democratic President Harry Truman took a courageous stand against segregation in 1948, splitting his party; and Lyndon Johnson introduced the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. But neither of these laws could have been enacted without Republican support. Republican Senators and Congressmen overwhelmingly voted in favor of these bills, while one third of the Democrats in both houses of Congress voted against them, and mounted a filibuster in the Senate to prevent their enactment -- a filibuster that was broken only with Republican votes.
It is also a fact that the first crack in the wall of legal segregation came in 1954 with the Supreme Court decision in Brown v Board of Education outlawing segregation in the public schools. It was a unanimous decision supported by both the Republican and Democratic Justices; and the opinion of the Court was written by Republican Chief Justice Earl Warren.
It is also a fact that Republican President Dwight Eisenhower was the first President since Republican President U.S. Grant to send federal troops to the South to enforce the rights of African Americans, by upholding court ordered desegregation of the Little Rock public schools.
It was also a Republican, Richard Nixon, who established affirmative action as federal policy by issuing an Executive Order requiring that federal construction jobs be given to minority firms.
And finally, Republican President George W. Bush has appointed more minorities to high ranking administrative and judicial positions than any other President before him, including eight out of fifteen Cabinet posts (three Blacks, two Hispanics, two Asians and one Arab American) -- more than all of his Democratic predecessors combined.
The claim that the Democratic Party has been the only advocate of civil rights for blacks and other minorities is a myth invented and perpetuated by partisan Democrats. It is this myth that the Rev. Perryman seeks to dispel with his book UNFOUNDED LOYALTY.
Very Infromative but wrong, Modern conservtism is run by racialists.......2005-07-30
Having read Mr. Perryman's book I have come to this conclusion, Democrats patronize Afro- Americans Republicans are just condesending towards to why we do not trust the G.O.P. in this country. Yes, the 1964 civil rights act was passed with Republican support (but they were moderate to liberal nothern republicans)not the Neo- facist and rapture rightists that currently occupy conservative thought in this country. And the Democratic Party particluarly in the south was brutal to Afro -Americans and many of those politicans became Republicans due to the passing of the civil rights act (Strom Thurmond fillabusted for over a 36 hours against the act)and the book as other reviewers have written ignores the shift of FDR'S new deal, Truman I ntergrating the military and the passage of the Civil Rights and fair housing acts.
Those singluar steps are why Afro- Americans are faithful to the Democracts, hile I think to our determent politically, while the modern Repubublican party (intellectually helmed by William F. Buckley and Russell Kirk) politically galvanized by Goldwater's appeal to the southern states in oppositon to racial progress in this country took over the party and have controled it to varying degrees since. Perryman does not explain that but to say that blacks have unfounded loyalty and have no agency. Well as a black man who is politically independent, I don't care nor trust either party, but 1932-1968 was that period when Black Americans began making their strides and those were democratic adminstrations. Eisenhower( A REPUBLICAN) reluctantly sent troops into Little Rock and empthaized with southern whites (and a generation later white northern ethnics) in saying that "white parents did not want their daughters being molested by the "Big Black Buck". Perryman also does not account for the shift to the Willam F. Buckley wing of the party who DEFENDED southern white racists in their attempts to thwart racial progress even if that meant violence. Republicans began making race-based appeals all in the guise of "states rights" from the patron saint of 'dirty politics' Richard Nixon to his ideological children Reagan, Helms, and other neocons to this day. His book is great on information but short on logic.Blacks know bigots when they see them and modern conservatives from their intellectual think - tanks to religous nutjobs to their free market economist to their token blacks are facists plain and simple.
Which Political Party Is Better For Black Americans.......2005-05-21
Looking back not too many years the Democratic Party was very anti-black. This book spells out all of the facts. How did the Democratic Party garner over 95% of the black vote given its dismal record of serving our black citizens and other citizens as well? Can the Republican Party do better for our underserved citizens? Perhaps both parties are morally corrupt. Do we really need a third political party in America to serve the majority of our citizens who are being ignored by both political parties?
Unfounded Loyalty, by Rev. Wayne Perrman.......2005-03-31
I finish reading Unfounded Loyalty, in the Fall of 2003, after receiving it from your cpmpany.
I found the book to be both mind provkeing and a revelation.
It's historical mentions of how Black-Americans, real history
was effected- along with our Educational,Economic and Educational empowerment.Brought about by the Republicans, not the Demorcrats--has the liberal media, likes to proclaim!
I've recommended this book to the five School Districts in our
County, for required reading. And have personnely, use passages
on the Civil Rights Acts, that the Republicans pass--in my letters to Editor of our local paper. Two of them were published. Also,l send e-mails to hundreds of my e-mail friends--in 12 states.
Additionly, I given presentations, on all the contents of Rev. Perryman historical book--and received rousing postive responses.
Rev. Perry has venture where no other historians, both Black and White, has dare to go.
I can educationaly say:Unfounded Loyalty, will trully emancipate
Black-Americans--and some well intended White-Americans!!

Book Description
Claire’s future should be simple and predictable and include all the normal expectations of a young Acadian woman. But her life is far from straightforward. Her mother’s mental illness is a blot on the family name and Claire feels the brunt of it keenly. Her father, long sickened by his wife’s behavior, barely finds the energy to fend for his ever-growing family. Claire’s brother, Jacques, is increasingly angry and suspicious of the British soldiers who seem to take an unnatural interest in the family’s daily routine. Grandmère, well she is Grandmère – always hard to please, never capable of a single word of praise, no matter how hard Claire works to provide for all of them.
And then there is Sam Douglass, handsome in his red coat and always paying attention to her. What danger does she court just by talking to him? Somehow Claire must make sense of it all before her home in Grand-Pré is changed forever. There are traitors about but who are they? Is Sam one? Is Jacques? Most terrifying of all, is she?
Lynne Kositsky paints a vivid portrait of the land, the Acadians, and a tragic chapter in history. Claire by Moonlight traces the journey of one girl, facing insurmountable odds, who will forever remain haunted by the ghosts of those she loved.
Customer Reviews:
Claire by Moonlight is a great read........2005-06-29
If you are looking for a ripping good story with danger, disress, and lots of excitement, and still would like to learn something about an event in Canadian history, I reccomend Lynne Koisitsky's Claire by Moonlight. Claire Richard is an Acadian girl living in the idyllic settlement that her people have created in Nova Scotia. Suddenly her life is turned upside down as the new English Governor decides to expell the Acadians from their farms and lands, dispersing them to the English colonies and separating their families.
The book's style is dramatic and literate, and tells the story of Claire and her family with just enough detail to make the reader feel that he is really living through a truly deplorable event in Canadian History.
Book Description
At what price does independence come? Lady Jane Prentice, orphaned daughter of an English earl, arrives in Charlestown, South Carolina, in 1776, and finds herself plunged into the middle of a heated war--a war not only between her former country and her new home, but also between the members of her own family, whose loyalties are strongly divided in America's fight for freedom.
Torn by family responsibilities, the brutality of war, a secret romance, and her own growing need for independence, Jane is forced to adopt many roles, until she finds the courage to become the person she wants to be: just Jane.

great book for middle school kids and older.......2007-02-24
This is a fantastic book that I found very hard to put down!
It tells the story of the daughter of a once wealthy English earl that moves to America. She finds herself stuck in a staunch Loyalist home with family fighting on either side of the war. She must figure out who she actually is and then decide which side she supports.
This book is filled with exciting twists and turns that keep the reader hooked, as well as a touch of romance. For anyone who is hesitant to read a historical fiction book- (Like I was!) -I highly reccomend it...as well as to people who already love reading historical fiction!!!!
This book might be a little cliche, (for those who have already read alot of other books like it), but not at all bad.
For the people that think this book is unappropriate reading material for middle school kids, I'd like to note that this book does not set a bad example, the author simply is trying to describe how it was in those times.
VERY WELL WRITTEN BOOK!
Just Jane is Just Too Cliche.......2006-06-24
Frankly, I am quite tired of reading about Revolutionary Era heroines who start out a wealthy, well bred young ladies and end up rebellious and happily settled with a suitor mentioned throughout the novel.
How cliche can you get? I knew the sotry before I opened the book: an orphaned girl moves in with relatives, soon she finds herself in the midst of war while two men; one vain but a "proper match," while the other is poor but kind hearted. The heroine slowly matures and chooses the poor suitor over the rich; she settles down and lives a life of hardships she may not have faced as a wealthy Lady, but nevertheless is happy.
Okay, so of course this is a nice tale, and I aggree with a descision to choose love over your duty. (Within reason).
But come on! This plot is entirely predictable. We know from the first meeting with Mr. Corwyn that he is meant for her and her "identity," is that of a "spirited girl" with enough intelligence to choose love over someone else.
A less, perhaps, suitable suitor.
ALright.
Bye.
Just Jane.......2006-06-16
Just Jane is a fantastic read! Not only do you learn a lot about the revolution, but you have a wonderful story to get caught up in. This book lets the reader see both sides of the war, loyalist and patriot. You end up falling in love with the patriot characters and the loyalist characters. You feel everything that Jane is feeling, the confusion, the frustration, the longing for something that may never come to be. William Lavender has given us the chance to take a tiny glimpse into the struggle that the revolution caused in a divided family. Five stars for William Lavender!
Good Story--Questionnable Values.......2006-05-19
As an avid reader of young adult fiction, I was immediately drawn to this interesting and beautiful book. The writing was good, the history interesting and informative, and the characters intriguing, but I had a few concerns.
My biggest concern is that adultery is made to look understandable and sympathetic. While the female, married counterpart is held accountable and punished for her part in the affair, Simon (the hero and love interest to our heroine) needs only tell Jane he has ended it in order to recieve her forgiveness. This man is regarded as the moral compass of the entire book, and yet never once is his part in the affair discussed in any way other than part of a misunderstanding which makes Jane jealous. We don't know how far this affair has gone, but isn't a romantic relationship with a married woman something that should at least be considered a flaw in this hero's past? Shouldn't we see the morally sound and defiant Jane actually consider that maybe he isn't quite her match (especially since the affair was with her aunt, old enough to be her mother)?
This is one of the many moral contradictions I find in Jane. She talks big, but can't back it up. She is horrified to find Simon is having an adulterous affair, but really only because she is jealous. She refuses to indulge the attentions of an advantageous connection for whom she has no real feelings to those who ask it of her, but then she does it anyway because she's having a good time. In fact, she continues to indulge the attentions of her cousin Brandon as well, each time only telling the truth when it suits her. And yet the other characters continue to consider her a remarkable and moral woman.
The biggest problem with this is that it is written for ages 12 and up. These are adult issues. I don't think we need to be telling 14 year old girls that it's fine to have hopes and dreams of marriage with their much older and adulterous teachers. What kind of morality is that? Even if this double standard of allowing men to get away with what makes a woman completely outcast IS historically correct, is THIS what we want to teach our teenage daughters?
I'm really horrified that a middle school teacher would be recommending and actually assigning this book to the children. I hope a letter is sent home to the parents explaining the issues contained in the book so they can make their own moral judgments and teach correct principles to their children.
It may be easy to look past these issues and applaud this novel for its other good qualities, but with considering the impressionable minds it was written for, I can see it as nothing other than an morally depricating agenda. It should not be read by children.
Good Historical Fiction.......2005-12-31
I am a middle school American history teacher and have just finished reading Just Jane. I was so enthralled by the story line, that I was unable to put the book down and finished it in one day. I plan on having my class read this book as a group. It will easily reinforce some of the topics we have covered thus far this year. I highly recommend Just Jane to any middle schooler, and many adults may enjoy it as well.

This is why I love Swet Valley High.......2007-09-01
Jess can't stand the thought of not making out with a dude for like 4 days, so while her bf is away Jess finds one of the many hot guys in town to hook up with. Ps: Can I please live in this town? Every guy is totally hot, except for Winston. Anyway turns out homeboy is kind of a psycho. I actually didn't even see that one coming. Good job guys! Usually I can figure out the ending within the first 5 pages. One of the most entertaining SVH books I've read in awhile.
A New Boyfriend for Jessica?.......2005-01-27
When Jessica meets Christopher,a handsome, dark guy on the beach in her steady boyfriend A.J.'s absence,She can't resist. But,Christopher almost kidnaps Elizabeth, not Jessica on the night of an awards ceremony, where Jessica won as Queen and A.J. became her king.
"Has Jessica found someone new?" (SVH #54).......2004-01-20
While Jessica Wakefield's steady boyfriend, A. J. Morgan, is out of state for the weekend, she falls for Christopher, a surfer she meets at the beach (she doesn't even know his last name), hence the title of this book: "Two-Boy Weekend." Part of Jessica wants to be faithful to A. J. (uh-huh, riiight); but another part of Jess wants to revert to her old self, the one who likes to date a new guy every week. But then Christopher starts stalking her, and Jess is afraid A. J. will find out. Ah, typical Jess: never thinking about the consequences. I was never a big Jessica fan (I preferred Liz instead, who, at the end of this book, is in danger of being kidnapped--deja vu from book #13, "Kidnapped!"--because of her sister), but fans of this wayward twin should love her two-boy weekend fiasco. As for any subplots--which is typical in a SVH book that can't stretch its main plot to 150 pages or so--there aren't any; it's all about Jess and her boy-juggling drama.
Thriller........2002-09-29
Sure, the title doesn't make it sound like a scary book, but it is.Jessica dates another boy while her boyfriends away. When her boyfriend(AJ)returns, she tells Christopher it's over, not yet realizing he is a psychopath.Find out if he manages to drive the two of them into a brick wall.
An overall good book..........2001-11-02
In Two-Boy Weekend, Jessica Wakefield's boyfriend A.J. Morgan is going away to visit relatives, and Jessica thinks that she will be completely miserable without him for a week. Her friends Lila Fowler, Cara Walker, and Amy Sutton convince her to go with them to the beach, and Jessica ends up meeting a guy named Christopher. Convinced that there's nothing wrong with going out with Christopher while A.J. is gone, Jessica goes on a few dates with Christopher. The morning that A.J. comes back, Jessica ends the relationship with Christopher...so she thinks. But Christopher won't leave her alone, and Jessica becomes concerned that A.J. and her friends will find out about Christopher. Jessica is determined to go to the Charity Ball, where A.J. will be the King, and she'll be the Queen. But it doesn't work out that way. Christopher continues bothering Jessica, and even pretends to be interested in buying A.J.'s car so that he can see and torment her. Jessica finally tells someone about what has been happening between herself and Christopher, and is told to tell A.J. before it's too late and so that Christopher can lose his control over her. But Jessica decides not to, and Christopher follows her to the dance, where disaster awaits. I found this book to be very suspenseful at the end, a worthwhile read.
