Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Forced to watch his father escorted out of their lives by Turkish police, his brothers shot to death in their backyard, his grandmother murdered by a rock-wielding guard, and his sister take poison rather than be raped by soldiers, 12-year-old Vahan Kendarian abruptly begins to learn what his father meant when he used to say, "This is how steel is made. Steel is made strong by fire." Up until 1915, Vahan has lived a cosseted life as the son of a wealthy and respected Armenian man. But overnight his world is destroyed when the triumvirate of Turkish leaders, Enver Pasha, Talaat Bey, and Djemal Pasha, begins the systematic massacre of nearly three-quarters of the Armenian population of Turkey, 1.5 million men, women, and children. Soon Vahan is an orphan on the run, surviving by begging, pretending to be deaf and mute, dressing as a girl, hiding out in basements and outhouses, and even living for a time with the Horseshoer of Baskale, a Turkish governor known for nailing horseshoes to the feet of his Armenian victims. Time and again, the terrified and desperate boy grows close to someone--and loses him or her to an appalling, violent death. Through three years of unspeakable horror, Vahan is made stronger by this fire, and by perseverance, fate, or sheer luck, he survives long enough to escape to the safe haven of Constantinople.

Brutally vivid, Adam Bagdasarian's Forgotten Fire is based on the experiences of his great-uncle during the Armenian Holocaust. The absolutely relentless series of vile events is almost unbearable, but the quiet elegance of Bagdasarian's writing makes this a novel of truth and beauty. Parental guidance is strongly suggested for younger readers of this extraordinary, heartbreaking account. (Ages 14 and older) --Emilie Coulter

5 out of 5 stars Truth told through the personal first-hand experience of a young victim .......2007-09-18

As a third generation Armenian-American with a family history which includes a similar set of horrific first-hand accounts of Turkish Muslim atrocities against my own kin, this historical recounting was hard to put down. For those in our 'modern' culture too arrogant to believe that history is relevant, this historical vignette relating to the well-documented massacre and abuse of 1-2 million Armenian Christians by Turkish Muslims rings absolutely true and hauntingly familiar to the scores of comparable historical atrocities inflicted by evil Islamic terrorists across Asia, Africa and the Middle East over the past 1300 years (in the past decade consider similar incursions in Sudan, Philippines, East Timor, Armenia, Lebanon, Israel, etc.). The linkage of Post-Christian 'pre-Nazi' German culture with Turkish Muslim allies in suppressing this truth back in WWI was recently brought shockingly to mind in September 2007 by the discovery of Al Queda-trained German Muslims preparing large scale bombing materials in Germany. Read this book and be informed as to the real, continuing, stakes on today's world stage where darkness and light continue to battle. The good news is that the Bible tells us that Jesus wins and reigns for eternity. Praise be to the true God of the Bible!!

4 out of 5 stars A novel of the Armenian Genocide........2007-07-14

This book tells the story of the author's uncle who survived the Armenian genocide and lived to tell his relatives. It is a heart moving story of how a rich Armenian family died. The two survivors are a sister and a brother. This is the story of the brother. Few people remember the Armenian genocides since they took place either before World War I or during the war itself. One and a half million Armenians died in these events (there were several prior to WWI and the big one took place during the war). Although the story is set in eastern Turkey, one does not get a view of why the government ministers/soldiers perpetrated these massacres. The book shows how people were killed by evil men, a very simplistic explanation.

This is an interesting read. Although a novel, it is based on a true event and life. I am not sure it is really for grade school students, but could be taught to high school students.

5 out of 5 stars Pass this book on to others-share it with the world........2007-05-31

I was speaking with a friend of mine when I mentioned a faux pas that I had made several years ago in an Armenian grocery, knowing that my friend is Armenian and knowing a little about the genocide of the Armenian people. He surprised me by telling me about this book and recommended it to me highly. I was further surprised when he told me his cousin wrote the book about his own father. Not wishing to go further into a private conversation (although I'm sure he'll consider me dopey for worrying about it), I bought the book and was amazed by the humanity of the writing, especially about such a heartbreaking chapter of the history of the human race. The most surprising aspect of this book is that there is no hate in it other than on the part of the Turks for the Armenians. I found it to be a wrenching and uplifting depiction of a heroic boy (a true hero, not the watered-down version adopted today). Anyone who is not changed by it should read it again and try harder.

Take this book down off the shelf, give it to someone to read, have them pass it on to others. No dust should touch its pages. I have no idea where my copy is but I'm sure it's being read with passion.

5 out of 5 stars Forgotten Fire.......2007-05-28

This book of tradgety was very well written. It is a story of a young Armenian boy who servived the Armenian Genocide of 1915. I think that as an Armnian American it is important that we fully understand what our parents and grandparents went through and The Turkish government still will not admitt to any wrong doing.Shame on them.

5 out of 5 stars Historical, well written, and powerful.......2007-04-11

The Armenian genocide is, as has been pointed out here, something that's not rarely spoken of. Turkey is in complete denial, and the world hasn't quite caught up yet. Strange, as it has been almost 100 years.

I'll admit that I knew very little about this historic event. I knew a bit, from hearing stories here and there, but I didn't really understand what it meant. "Forgotten Fire" showed it to me clearly and vividly, in a way that I don't think I'll ever forget. I don't think I CAN forget it - even three years after reading it, I could remember the clear details. I could remember moments that touched me deeply. This book isn't the sort of book you read and then toss in the "done and read" pile. It's kept.

Historically, this book does a wonderful job at showing one point of view. I hadn't ever read anything about this, so it was fascinating to read this and travel along. I loved reading it because it was powerful. I loved reading it because it was different.

What I especially liked about this book was that it all stuck with me. Maybe I was ignorant before, but after reading this well-written, vivid book, I won't forget about Armenia. The story, besides being both sad, painful, and interesting, was presented clearly and never stopped moving. It all felt real and honest. It was powerful, intense, and incredible.

I recommend this book to any young adult as a wonderful piece of literature and a vividly told piece of a little-known history. It's not for younger kids (death being a major issue), but anyone else can and should read it, if only to learn about the past.

Highly recommended.

Book Description

Sixteen teenagers taken from their homes. Eleven bodies recovered, each completely drained of blood. Some believe vampires are responsible, but Jon Barnett knows it's something far worse. To stop the killers in Taurin Bay, he becomes enmeshed in a web of black magic and realizes he needs help. But fate gives him only one choice in the form of recluse Madeline Smith.

Madeline Smith has retreated to an isolated farmhouse, afraid of the psychic abilities she can't control-abilities that have killed. But when "ghost" Jon Barnett brings a warning of danger and her nephew disappears, Maddie has to leave her haven. She also has to learn to control the abilities she fears and place her trust in Jon Barnett, a man who is neither human nor ghost.

But as the search for the teenagers becomes a race against time, and the noose of sorcery threatens to kill Maddie and Jon, the greatest danger to them both could be the feelings they have for each other-feelings that they refuse to acknowledge.

5 out of 5 stars A fabulous paranormal romance .......2006-02-11

Courtesy of CK2S Kwips and Kritiques

Maddie Smith has been hiding out... in fear of her unusual abilities to start fires with a thought and what she can do with them. Ever since she accidentally killed her late husband, she's been terrified she'll kill someone else. When a vision comes to her one evening, begging her help, she has no desire to follow, but something draws her out.

Jon Barnett, a shape shifter, is shot and left for dead by an enemy with grand plans. Children have been disappearing from their homes leaving no trace, but Jon knows the perpetrator has to be someone with old magic. The only link between these children is Taurin Bay, where all the victims had visited shortly before their disappearances. Something led Jon to Maddie for help, and if he can't convince her to save him, all will be lost.

When Maddie's nephew, Evan, disappears, she knows there is only one way to get answers... the ghostly vision who begged her to save him. She answers his call, never expecting what she finds. Now Maddie is sucked in to the cosmic battle of good and evil to save Evan. As she draws closer to Jon through their search for Evan and the person controlling the dark forces, her control over her abilities, always shaky at best, grows weaker and she fears what will happen. Jon can help her understand her abilities but will he get the chance? What of the tender new love sparking between them?

Circle of Fire was not the first book by Keri Arthur this reviewer has read, but it was enough to make her a permanent fan. This story has it all... danger, intrigue, magic, passion, and romance. The storyline unfolds at a steady pace, climbing and falling as one follows along in its wake. Magic, which plays a very important role in everything, is sure to delight fans of the paranormal. There are a couple plot twists thrown in to shock readers as well, which only add to the heightened level of suspense in the novel.

Maddie starts out as a woman of great fear, who prefers hiding in isolation to interacting with others. Jon's appearance in her life forces her to come out of her cocoon of doubt, blossoming into the beautiful and confident woman she was meant to be. Her growth as a person is central to the story, for her confidence comes from everything she has to face to save Evan. Jon is also alone in his self-imposed exile from personal relationships, convinced nothing is more important than his work, which would be hindered by emotional ties. Watching him come to care for Maddie, and reach his own peak of self-discovery will cause readers to sigh with happiness as he finally comes around.

5 out of 5 stars Great!.......2002-12-10

This is a great read. The unearthliness of Feehan and fast moving and romantic as Lindsey and My newest favorite "Anything, My Love" by Cynthia Simmons. A sizzling page turner. That's what I like, book I simply can't put down.

5 out of 5 stars Fast moving tale.......2002-10-15

Maddie Smith is a clairvoyant and a pyrokinetic. She is living in isolation after the death of her abusive husband in a fire that she started. Jon Barnet is a member of the Damask Circle. He is trying to catch the murderer of a number of teenagers, left drained of all blood in a rural area. Maddie's nephew Evan is the next victim and Jon needs her help to find him.

I really enjoyed this shapeshifter romance. The characters were very well developed and the plot moved quickly. Good series.

4 out of 5 stars Great entertainment!.......2002-08-24

I'm not a big fan of paranormal romance books, but I do like Keri Arthur. She is mostly known for her excellent Nikki James and Michael Kelly series. A series I love. With Circle Of Fire she starts a new series--more fabulous paranormal stories. This time involving the members of the Damask Circle, an organization that sees its members, all of them extraordinary in one way or another, fight super-natural evil.

Madeline Smith and Jon Barnett are two characters with extraordinary talents. The one a shapeshifter and a loner out of necessity, the other a clairvoyant and a recluse out of choice. Brought together to solve the mystery behind the disappearance of teenagers in the small town of Taurin Bay, they not only have to face their own insecurities but also have to deal with their sizzling attraction and the search for the victims and their perpetrators.

Circle Of Fire is light entertainment. Perfect to while away a few spare hours. It's not demanding but fun. It's a lot like going on one of those big fun-fair rides. It has its slow build up but then it goes fast, fast, fast. You are sure to be screaming and laughing. Can't wait to read Circle Of Death.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......2002-01-23

Keri Arthur is a fantastic writer. I have read all three of her books and would highly recommend them.

Readers who have followed the fortunes of Daja and her foster siblings in Tamora Pierce's Circle of Magic and The Circle Opens sequences will not be disappointed by this continuation of Daja's adventures as a smith-mage. As her foster siblings Sandry and Briar struggle with their reluctant apprentices (Magic Steps, Street Magic), Daja and her teacher, Frostpine, settle into the northern Namorn city of Kugisko for a restful winter break. Not surprisingly, their illusions are promptly shattered, as Daja discovers that the twin daughters of her host have "ambient magic." As the discovering-mage, Daja is obliged to teach the fidgety girls the rudiments of magic. Meanwhile, Kugisko seems to have fallen into the hands of a ruthless arsonist, and Daja is determined to help her new firefighting friend, Bennat Ladradun, get to the bottom of the mystery. As always, Pierce's writing is both personable and thrilling. Kaja, a strapping, dark-skinned 14-year-old, is tremendously genuine; her powers seem to reflect inner strength rather than an arbitrary gift. An excellent, many-layered read. 5 out of 5 stars Magical and is the best of the Circle Opens.......2007-04-03

I think that this book is the best of the Circle Open's quartet! The characters are lovable like Daja and her teacher Frostpine. The magic is breath-taking and even though the book can be serious it is also fun! Tamora Pierce has definetly done an excellent job on this book. Guarenteed you'll be hooked from page one!

Daja and Frostpine went to Kugisko, cold and freezing Kugisko to visit old friends... They didn't expect to have too big of an adventure. It was SUPPOSED to be peaceful. Fires are spreading across the town and nobody knows who's starting them. They know that somebody is doing it on purpose...but who?

Daja also meets a man named Bennat Ladradun who's family was killed in a fire and now dedicates his life to fighting raging fires...is Ben really what Daja thinks he is?

Read 'Cold Fire'! It rocks!

4 out of 5 stars an excellent piece of writing by Tamora Pierce.......2007-01-01

In my opinion, Cold Fire is more interesting than Magic Steps and Street Magic, simply because it introduces new concepts and themes into Tamora Pierce's writing. One such is traitorism. You know it's going to happen, but you dread it all the same. There is also more fear and suspense and less repetition than in the other books. It is a more complex novel. It may seem that Daja is an unfeeling character in the beginning because it is mostly written in denotation with no point of view behind her observation, but later in the novel, you'll find that this is not so. Daja shares memories of her past, and hints towards the future are apparant. The twins are amusing and Frostpine down to earth. There is a satisfying plot. It's great!

5 out of 5 stars Pierce does it again!!.......2006-12-17

Tamora Pierce, a loved author has created another wonderful piece of work. It is definetley the best of the circle opens series and has great twists and turns. Fantasy and magic lovers are sure to enjoy this masterpiece considering how much is in it. Yet fantasy is what this book is it is also somewhat of a mystery. Not only does it have both mystery and fantasy but is also full of action and adventure! So many, many different people would enjoy this book.

Now in this book Daja kisbu is traveling with her teacher Frostpine north. They're staying with friends of theres who have twins. In this story Daja finds out that they each have a magical gift. One with cooking and the other with carpetry. Considering Daja discovered their powers she is responsible for teaching them or finding them good teachers. As she teaches the twins whom are nothing alike a mystery occurs. Daja and agents have found that fires are being perposley set in houses, stores etc. So she must find out who's killing people and causing all this trouble for nothing. She must face challenges when she finds who has been doing this right under her nose. Read 'Cold Fire' for it is a truley tremendous book!!

4 out of 5 stars Better than the First Two.......2006-03-22

Cold Fire is the third book in The Circle Opens. Four years after the events chronicled in the Circle of Magic series, Daja and her teacher Frostpine have traveled to the northern country of Namorn to spend the winter. Now a fully credentialed smith mage, Daja is shocked that when she discovers two twins with ambient magic that she is obligated to teach them. Anxious to find teachers for the two girls, Daja meets and becomes friends with a man named Bennet Ladradun during her search. Ben is the village firefighter and Daja helps him save a blind girl from a burning building. Then an arsonist starts to set buildings all over the city on fire. Daja works to catch the criminal before he goes to far, but what she finds just might teach her more than she wants to know.

Unlike the series that comes before this one, The Circle Opens can easily be read out of order. I personally found the first two books rather slow compared to the earlier series and so I was reluctant to even pick this one up at all. I am so glad that I did. This book deals with slightly darker themes than the previous ones, so younger readers should exercise a bit of caution. The plot had quite a few twists and although you know who the arsonist is by the middle of the book, you keep hoping that you're wrong. A slightly sad ending, but overall a really good book.

5 out of 5 stars Indeed, Tamora has done it again.......2005-08-27

I thoroughly enjoyed the third book of the Circle of Magic series because Daja had a chance to reclaim herself. In this, I think it's absolutely marvelous how much she has grown as a person. Of all of them so far, I think she has grown the most.

5 out of 5 stars The "Why" for the "What You Do...".......2007-01-14

I can't say enough good things about how this book is presented and the material it covers. She takes one step by step through the building blocks of ritual, all the while detailing the reasons why one does this or that, and the reasons one should or should not do something else.

It is a well-presented guidebook for the experienced ritual writer yet still concise and understandable enough for those just beginning to explore the path and write ritual and it is not too full of craft jargon so newbies aren't left thinking "what...?". After reading this book, one has a complete understanding of exactly what an elemental is and the proper handling of this energy. Combining energy with elemental instruction, she spins a powerful thread from which most will be succesful in weaving their desired results.

She covers the subject I personally think is most overlooked in many writings today, that of making offerings. One hears so much misinformation about 'sacrifices' and not nearly enough about 'offerings' and the differences between the two. She also stresses the importance of grounding and WHY it's important to those around you to do so yourself and to make sure those who participate in your rituals follow this step. I don't recommend always slapping walls, but I certainly think this type of action is warranted at the end of each ritual that had the purpose of raising energy. Proper handling of the power is a necessary step to successful spellwork, and proper return of the energy raised is just as important a step afterwards.

She gives several examples of different types of rituals and where specific actions fit in each so that you still end up with pretty much the same formula for your work, even though the rituals might be for totally differing purposes.

She also touches on the 'ettiquette' of ritual, the proper order and form of ritual so that an offering is presented before the request is made, and the result is given an action of acceptance, very important to the serious witch.

The more you know about what you are doing, the better you will become at it. Moreover, this book is a guide to being a successful servant to the Gods...and I can't think of a much nicer thing to say about it.

5 out of 5 stars Practical and No Nonesense Guide - Finally.......2006-12-20

I happened upon this book by recommendation of a friend. All I can say is WOW. I was so tired of reading the anything goes pagan circle casting and so many authors clamoring about to say why everything under the sun was acceptable. It seems so many forget about foundation.

I now recommend this book to everyone who wants to learn how to cast a circle the wiccan format. NOT A PAGAN CIRCLE format. But a witch's circle. The author comes from a traditional background. There is so much in her writing that is of practical use. There is much that speaks and inspires here. There is much that is said yet unsaid. Plans within plans, so to speak.

The manner of presentation is refreshing and very useful. So much thought went into the preparation and presentation of this book.

I intend to use this for teaching purposes. I can't say enough good about this book and Deborah.

Thank you! Thank you! Your years of experience are of great use to those of us coming along.

Blessed Be Great Lady!

5 out of 5 stars The Elements of Ritual.......2006-11-03

I was so pleased to add this book to my collection. It is perfectly suited for both beginners and more advanced practioners of the craft. There is lots of explanation, but not dogma, so that at the end of the day, I can decide for myself what fits and what does not, and leave open the door to changes in the future. Ritual as viewed through this book lets me choose my ritual from knowledge, not blindly follow someone who created ritual for themselves. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Required Reading.......2006-09-05

I like doing reviews. Most times I get books that have information I can use in them, and times there are books that have almost no information I can use. There are some books I have reviewed that are examples of the worst that comes out of current publications. There are times when I can't say enough good things about books I read.

I count this book as one of the latter.

Now that the author and publishers can breathe again, I want to tell you all that if you are looking for a book on how to perform a ritual, the theatrics, the actual nitty-gritty, the practical side and the mystic side, then this is your book.

I tend to think of myself as being very knowledgeable in the realms of ritual and mystic mindset. This book showed me those things I did know were accurate and it also showed me where my knowledge lacked in substance. I was able to objectively break down the rituals I perform and to be able to see which parts were necessary and why those portions worked. This went through every aspect of ritual, from the decision to start the ritual, to altar setup to the actual workings themselves and to the closing rituals.

It is a needed reference for anyone who performs ritual for more than just themselves. It is absolutely critical that those who learned their tradition of Wicca from books have this.

I know I'm sounding like I'm gushing, and I am. I have a couple personal qualms, but they are so minor that I don't think they affect my review at all. The questions and qualms are from the fact that this is focused on Wiccan Rituals, not rituals in general. Now, I would be remiss if I didn't say that the fact this is Wiccan oriented is spelled out on the cover. The subtitle is "Air, Fire, Water and Earth in the Wiccan Circle". So right there I should assume that it is focused on Wiccan ritual. I think this could have been so much better if it were a general ritual book.

The divisions of Air, Fire, Water and Earth are used throughout this book, mainly to delineate different parts of the same segment of ritual. For instance; if we were talking about the Opening the Circle segment, there would be a section in this chapter discussing the Air aspects (the meaning behind doing things thus and so), the Fire aspects (the mental attitude and what is supposed to be happening mystically), the Water aspects (the mythology, story and history behind this step) and the Earth aspects (the practical how to do this steps). In addition to those there is some discussion about other things that affect ritual, like tools and placements and some about the choice of deities.

There are sample rituals to be used as a template throughout the book, mostly to be shown as examples of what you can do and still have all the elements be present. But there is only one full ritual shown, from beginning to end.

There is no bibliography as such, although there are references throughout the book. There is no "recommended reading" in here either, nor is there any kind of appendix. There is an index, so finding the information is easy. But, there is also some "muddleness" in the chapters themselves. For example, in the chapter about beginning the Circle, you go through all the steps before the Circle is cast, the actual casting of the circle, and immediately after the circle is cast before moving into the next chapter. Each of those is broken into it's own subsection with the elements brought forward and discussed, Air, Water, Fire, and Earth. Three times for this one chapter, so it can get a bit confusing. I probably would have broken them into their own chapters instead of including them in one chapter together. But that is me.

I can unhesitatingly recommend this book for anyone that I feel is going to do rituals and wants to have an in depth understanding of a Wiccan ritual structure. I give this book 4 1/2 stars out of 5.

It is my opinion that every coven should have a copy of this book in their library.

Daven

This is a very well written "Wicca 102" level book that I would highly recommend to anyone who is serious about gaining a better level of understanding of themselves, how ritual really works and how to enhance the level of power in your rituals.

This is one of Lisa's Best! The story is about Reyne and Logan. How they met and how he helped her through a difficult problem she would rather not have faced. His compassion and love for her is unending. For those who have read Refuge, this continues the story of Matt and Beth and what they must face in the future. Lisa Tawn Bergren has such a beautiful way to her writing. She made me feel as if I could go to Montana and meet these folks. I highly recommend this book but be sure you have the tissues near by!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book & Highly Recommended.......2006-08-09

This book should be high on the list of recommended books for all interested in Witchcraft and in particular to those who wish to persue the tradition of Wicca.

The authors explain in detail the practices of a typical Wiccan ritual. On the surface of it, this may present the book in the "beginners" section of similar books - however, Circle of Fire presents the individual practices in a more detailed, informed and concise manner than other similar books. This makes Circle of Fire a fantastic reference work and manual for people working the tradition from a non-initiatory perspective.

Further more it allows those who do work from in an initiatory tradition of Wicca to test their own knowledge and improve their understanding of the symbolism. This is an important book which will help the practioner gain a deeper understanding of their own practices and challenge their existing views.

The authors are Alexandrian Wiccans and details of their other work can be found on their website at avalonia.co.uk. It is clear from their other work that they are students of the Western Mystery tradition from a more holistic viewpoint than many other contemporary authors writing on Wicca. Rankine is one of the founders of the Progressive Witchcraft movement which started in the 1990's and D'Este has created sustained communities in London for many years. They both have a long biography of involvement in both private and community events and groups in the UK, yet in this book they understate their own experience and achievements in favour of providing information and practical insights.

I have been practising for many years and found that this book still provided me with many insights on what I would consider the "basics" and for this reason I give this book a solid ***** 5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Reference Workbook.......2006-05-10

This book is one of many I have read on Wicca and I only bought it because I enjoy other books by David Rankine, such as his excellent book on Qabalah (Climbing the Tree of Life) and decided to cure my curiousity.

As a non-wiccan I found this book to be far more readable and understandable than other books I have read in the past. It provides the reader with information on Wicca and the symbolism of the rituals and tools in a way that I have not seen elsewhere. It was also very refreshing to see visualisations for the different parts of the rituals as I have always felt this to be something lacking in Wicca. Maybe it has always been there, but the visualisations I have seen prior to that presented in this book has always left me wanting for clearer explanations.

Although this book is being billed by some as a beginners book, it is definitely in my own opinion an advanced book in comparison with books by Cunningham, Silver Ravenwold and Kate West. It is obviously aimed at those already practising, who have already made the decision to follow this tradition and who are serious about actually wanting to understand what they are doing and why. Its not a big book, but its worth every penny.

The authors' website www.avalonia.co.uk provides some extracts from this book, but sadly not the most exciting parts. All the same they should be congratulated on providing such a down to earth and as another reviewer put it straight to the point book on the subject. Their experience and understanding of the mysteries who through in the way they present their material, no need for trying to convince the reader that this is the only book, instead they seem to be saying the exact opposite - read this book to gain a deeper understanding on that which you already know and do.

5 out of 5 stars Serious about Wicca? Then get this book now........2006-04-19

This book will give you all the answers on the symbolism and practices of Wiccan ritual. Yes, I said it : all the answers.

Its not a huge big tome, if it was bigger, it wouldn't be a waste of paper either. The authors are authorities on the subject of wicca and related subject and the material presented here is great.

Why do we cast circles? What does the elemental landscapes look like? What is the symbolism of salt and water consecration and purification? Together with some really good ideas for rituals and practical advice on ritual preparation, this book makes not only a good introduction for newcomers to wicca, but also a great reference work for those already practicing and proficient in the rituals. It will add an extra dimension, so to speak.

I loved it and I have been working within the Wiccan tradition for more than a decade!

5 out of 5 stars Simple & to the point!.......2006-04-15

Wicca has become so fluffy! Everyone seems to be writing about it, never mind if they are Wiccan or not, have any experience of the system or not, ever practiced it or not!

Everything seems to go, but no-one ever tells you why exactly. It seems that it just feels right, so do it and its all ok, never mind what it is you are doing.

If this is all true then why ever bother doing anything?

THIS BOOK IS STRAIGHT TO THE POINT, SIMPLE AND THUS GREAT.

If you think of Wicca as your magickal path of choice you will love this book. It gives the symbolism and reasoning behind all the component parts of the ceremonies - such as why Salt & Water? Why Circle Casting? What is the symbolism of these things? Why do you use the tools you use? What are their purpose and what is their symbolism?

It may not be a wiccan bible with a million pages of wasted paper and ink, it may not have pretty barbie-like goddess figures on every page - but to me, that makes this book all the more excellent!

Buy this book if you are seriously interested in Wicca. Buy this book if you are a Wiccan (initiate or self-dedicant) wishing for deeper insights into the symbolism and practices. If you want practical thoughts and ideas on constructing and understanding Wiccan ritual you need this book.

If what you are looking for is a feel-good do-nothing book - then don't buy this book. If what you are looking for is a recipe book - then also don't bother buying this book.

But if you are serious about Wicca as a spiritual and magickal mystical path - what are you waiting for. Get it now.

5 out of 5 stars Advanced, yet excellent for beginners.......2005-09-07

Circle of Fire is the first book on Wicca that completely fooled me. I opened it and expected a book aimed completely at newbies, after all that is what you would expect when you see that there are chapters dedicated to circle casting and calling the guardians of the four elemental quarters.

There is however quite a bit more to this book. It does as it says on the cover, it explores both the symbolism and practices of wiccan ritual and it does so in full.

If you have read many beginners books and now want something a bit more detailed to help you build meaningful rituals, then look no further. This book will be your best friend. Even if, like me, you are an experienced hand at creating your own rituals, it is always good to have something which goes back to basics, but which does so in a detailed down to earth manner.

Advanced techniques such as ritual timing with planetary, lunar and solar cycles as well as very interesting and effective elemental gestures are included.

The authors are well known in the UK for their workshops, open circles and Avalonia.co.uk website. Their teaching experience shows in this book as one can see that they are used to explaining and answering questions, so no stone is left unturned.

If wicca is your path, you should have this book on your shelf, you will regret it if you dont.

You see for yourself.

I would recommend this book to everyone that likes to read and make it fun. I think this book was great, it catches the readers attention and makes it so you can't put the book down. When I read this book I just wouldn't put it down, I wanted to find out what was about to happen in the fallowing chapter. The suspence is just something that can't be beat, its great. I am glad that i own this book and some of the other books R.L. Stine has writen and i would suggest that you take the time out to read this book, if you dont have it barrow it from and friend or go out and buy it for your joy!!

5 out of 5 stars 'Circle of fire'.......2002-01-07

Circle of fire was a great book, but like R.L. Stine's previous books, it's VERY scary. Unlike most horror books,it isn't boring in the beginning. One of the reasons it's so great is that you can relate to the main character, Mia. Mia is just another girl at school until she joins a group that practices the dark arts. But will they let her survive leaving it? Very suspensful. A must buy.

5 out of 5 stars nameless.......2001-05-04

5 out of 5 stars The four travel to the Gold Ridged Mountains.......2007-04-02

Daja and the other mages in training; Briar, Sandry and Tris travel to the Gold Ridged Mountains with their teachers. In this place drought is starting a famine.

Before Daja knows it she's created something new and extrordinary; it's a living, metal vine which grows gold and silver pedals. In the town Daja runs into a woman who is a trader, the type of person Daja used to be. She wants Daja's vine but Daja wants to be a trader again...hmmm?

This is an awesome book! Hope you read it!

    5 out of 5 stars A Strong Female Character.......2006-08-03

We got to know Daja outside of her Trader or Circle identities. She emerged as very powerful, smart and capable. This book and Tris's book were the best of this series.

3 out of 5 stars About the title..........2006-08-01

This is just a re-titled copy of Daja's Book in the Circle of Magic quartet - don't get confused by the title!

    5 out of 5 stars Spectacular Book.......2005-03-06

I absoluteley adore this book along with all the other books in this series. I love this one most of all. It is great!

3 out of 5 stars Its pretty good..........2004-09-29

Daja's book, by Tamora Peirce, is a series of three books. The other two books to this series are Sandry's Book and Tris's Book. Daja's Book is made for intermediate readers due to magic phrases and terms, which are sometimes hard to understand. This is a story about Daja, her friends, and teachers going to a town to help out. With Daja and her two friends having problems with their magic and the forest fire nearby, they have a handful to deal with. That handful might be just too much for the three teens. Fires blare across the lands and inch closer to what three young teens learn to call home. Droughts cover the land, but yet a glacier, with running water underneath, still thrives close by. How can that be in the magic world? Daja, Tris and Briar, three young teens who are still awaiting their almighty purpose in life, are looking to help out. Their magic, yet separate, works as one. The novel walks the reader through their assignment of helping a village, that for the time being, they learn to call home. The want to go to their real home thrives hard, but the need to help still overpowers.
