Good book for uneducated teachers with regards to law.......2001-03-21
With all the horror stories we hear about teachers being fired and sued over decesions they made about punishment and what to teach and how to teach, this book is a gold mine. It provides information on just about any topic a teach may encounter. Not only does it have great information, it is also written with few "legal trade" words.

Must Buy For All Business Students!.......2007-08-24
I took Henry Cheeseman's Business Law class at USC and he is an amazing professor! His book shows it all. Out of all my textbooks in my undergraduate and graduate studies, this is by far the most easy/fun to read textbook, while explaining everything in detail with many case examples!
If you want to get a general idea of what exactly law and business law is, then this is the book to buy. After reading this book, my interest in law sparked! I am actually planning on reading through it one more time to refresh my memory!
Packed with relevant information, page by page.......2007-05-06
This is the first college textbook that gets five stars from me. In his preface to the students, Dr. Cheeseman calls this book a labor of love. He did not exaggerate. It really shows that this book was written for students. The field of business law is vast, but Dr. Cheeseman manages to cover the essential in one book.
Page by page, he delivers relevant information. His explanations are short and to the point. He reinforces the concepts with carefully selected cases. One of the book's strong features is also its structure. The chapters are organized in a logical and easy to follow fashion. Finally, one gets a little intercultural perspective through Dr. Cheeseman's photography from places and people all over the world.
In short, this book's got it. I give it two thumbs up.
Best Business Law Intro Book.......2007-02-05
Very well written introduction to all aspects of Business Law. Includes up-to-date references and lots of examples. If you want to learn the basics of business and corporate law then this book is for you.
Great overview book of Business Law.......2007-02-03
This book is full of useful information regarding business law and takes into consideration the ever changing world of international business and e-commerce. I found the book to be easy to read and the use of cases to clarify the type of law or statute being discussed helped to tie everything together in a format that could be understood by the average student. I would suggest this book to anyone who wants a reference manual on business law to keep on their shelf and is a interesting reading for business law classes.
Good book that isn't overly dense with difficult wording, full with pertinent cases.......2006-11-14
I really enjoy readnig from this book, which can't be said for all the books I read for class. This books presents information in an easy reading manner and is full of many pertinent court cases. I think the inclusion of so many cases is important as it illistrates concepts while at the same time keeps the readers attention since they are real world settings that are more easily digested.
The only downside to this book, and thus one reason for only four stars, is its large size, which is probably common for most business law books. This book is very hefty! I like reading outdoors at a park or sitting on a bench and this book was mostly too large for me to do this. It would be beneficial to have this book either split to two books, or in an electronic version so that only the sections to be studied can easily be taken with the reader.
Overall great book!
Book Description
Great opportunities exist for law students and practicing lawyers outside the traditional practice of law. This important resource shows you when and how to choose a nonlegal career; the specialized skills legal training provides; how to plan and conduct a job search; and provides details on careers in business and industry, government and public service, associations and institutions, and entrepreneurial ventures. A resource section provides surveys and listings of nonlegal careers in several categories, and a listing of publishers and suggested readings on nonlegal careers.

Gets the Ball Rolling.......2006-03-26
(I think three and a half stars would be a more accurate rating, but it's not an option.)
I am currently a third-year law student, in debt up to my eyballs, and after spending two summers clerking at small law firms, I realized that I do not want to become a lawyer. So how am I going to pay off my student loans??
This book was a good resource to get my mind in gear, to organize my priorities, and to begin thinking about what kind of job I'd like to have.
As it turns out, many of the careers profiled in this book are as uninteresting to me as the practice of law. Nevertheless, by the time I finished reading the book, I had a list of quite a few options to consider.
I bought this book along with another one, "The Lawyer's Career Change Handbook," which has more of a hands-on approach. Together, these books have been an invaluable resource for plotting the direction of my post-law-school life. After some background information on how to conduct a job search, how to assess one's skills, etc., "Nonlegal Careers" hightlights different types of careers, and includes little stories about people who were lawyers and ended up changing their jobs - either within the practice of law, or finding fulfilling careers outside of the law. While these little stories were cute, and a real-life application of the concepts set forth in the book, they sometimes seemed a bit fanciful, impractical, or unrealistic to me.
Other reviewers of this book and other books about non-legal careers seemed frustrated that the books don't say, "Here, Kathy, disgruntled law student, we think that you should become a teacher - and guess what? We're going to tell you how to do that without needing to get a teaching certificate, or any additional education." Of course the books don't give that kind of advice. What they are good for is making the reader think about potential options - other career paths within the law, career paths related to the law, and career paths that have nothing to do with the law. John Grisham is always listed in these books - he is an attorney, but gave up the practice of law to become an incredibly successful author. Readers of "Nonlegal Careers" need to understand that reading this book is not going to turn you into the next John Grisham. But maybe, if you are already a talented creative writer (which I most definietly am not!), the book will encourage you to investigate a career as a writer.
This book is great as a way to begin thinking about alternative careers - but it is just a begining. (And, really, it doesn't claim to be any more than that.) No book written by someone you have never met is going to be able to tell you what to do with your life! Take this book for what it is - a step in the right direction toward a fulfilling career.
"Nonlegal Careers for Lawyers" is a wondeful guide, but it might be just as useful to check it out of the library as to have it on your shelf.

Gladding's 5th edition.......2007-02-07
Great introduction book to the counseling profession. Easy to follow and read. Concepts and ideas well developed and explained so that reading them was a joy.
Great Help for COUN 5231 .......2007-01-03
This book really helped me get through the course
For example ..........2004-03-01
I bought this book for my counseling class, and found it mediocre. It was very informative, but gave hardly any examples. I work well with examples, and even though most concepts were easy to understand, some would have been made clearer with a good example of how it applies to a counseling session, clients, etc.

Inane, corny.......2006-11-26
The book has a certain zany energy to it, but the plot is inane and the writing is incredibly corny. I couldn't even listen to it as an audio book. If you're interested in the Japanese underworld read Barry Eisler's John Rain series instead.
Highs and Lows.......2006-11-04
As an aspiring author of espionage/action fiction, I was referred to the writings of David Morrell. What I've discovered...
PROS: He has an exceptional talent for describing settings--often briefly, yet just detailed enough to make them realistic. Wooded hills. Bustling cities. European villages. His favorite technique is to use short, fragmented sentences. Like this. Because. It's fast and confusing, immediate. A sense of urgency--abruptly (2 words he loves to use, incidentally). Yes, he has a real talent for action, weaving in and out of scenes. I was quite captivated.
Morrell's other gift is to interweave background history and information (expository writing) within clips of dialogue. This is sometimes difficult for writers, because it can come off as dry, insipid lumps of prose.
CONS: Unfortunately, Morrell frequently exceeds his talents. One wooded hill blends into another. His fragmented sentences... Leave you. Gasping for air (in a bad way). His "Who dunnit?" tricks of repeating the same questions over and over, having characters regurgitate the same pestering facts, while ending scenes only to begin with the same silly dilemma, over and over, surpass the "suspense" and "tension" for which these tricks were designed. Instead they become simply aggravating, as if he's run of out of material and needs to fill 400 pages.
More than that, I often felt he was condescending to us readers. Are we mentally handicapped and need every new page to reiterate ever last page we read?
Which brings me to dialogue. Basically...well, he stinks. For such a "best-selling" author, he had me writhing in pain, cursing the flat, cookie-cutter characters and their absolutely, horrific interactions. "I'll follow you to hell," says the female, upon the first few minutes of meeting the protagonist. I knew right then I was in hell.
I found myself flipping through pages, scanning entire chapters, seeing the dread quotation marks (" "), which signaled, warning: bad dialogue. Keep flipping. In fact, I think this book could've been 150 pages, and it would've been much tighter and suspenseful. The female character? A prop. Useless. And the ending? As fast his urgency to end the drama and collect a paycheck. Abruptly.
My first and last David Morrell novel.......2006-07-23
This book features an incredibly lame plot and even lamer dialog that is so corny it almost seems like parody. Then there is the obnoxious phrase that two of the main characters say to one another ad nauseum: "But...(dramatic pause, I assume) I saw you die!" I wish they had seen ME die so I wouldn't have had to finish reading this idiotic book. Take out this phrase and the 500 page book would probably be reduced to 450 pages. This was the first - and last - David Morrell book I will read.
Well written action novel!.......2006-03-20
I am a David Morrell fan and have read many of his books. This one is great with respect to the fact that it is very orignal and unique with many plot twists and turns. There is significant historical reference to make the story line more credible and believable. It had the right mix of action, exotic locations, character developement and suspence. David Morrell is very good with small details that make the book thought provoking, realistic and interesting. Read it!
great read.......2005-11-12
The Opening gets you hooked. As the plot unfolds, the reader has so many questions, it's amazing to think they're all going to eventually be answered. The end brings the answers, but a little too sudden, fast , and furious. Less development of the chase scenes and more clues to the ending would have made the climactic scene much easier (and more interesting) to discover.

Book Description
The market leader in constitutional law casebooks, Constitutional Law and Politics, Fifth Edition, is a comprehensive text that presents excerpts and opinions from important Supreme Court cases and provides the background material necessary to understand the decisions and their historical significance. For the Fifth Edition, Professor O'Brien has refined the case introductions and headnotes, strengthened the pedagogical program, and added twenty-one new cases, including Bush v. Gore.

NICE WORK IF YOU CAN SEE IT.......2007-02-23
Professor O'Brien must surely be making valuable contributions with his numerous works, and this one should have been most helpful to me. But he or his publisher have opted for pretty, pale grey print -- almost impossible for middle-aged eyes to read without strain. I had ordered five of his books from Amazon and reluctantly returned them all.
Product Description
High Court Case Summaries on Business Associations, keyed to Klein's Casebook on Business Associations 5th edition. Contains well-prepared briefs for each major case in Klein's casebook on business associations, 5th ed. High Court briefs are written to present the essential facts, issue, decision and rationale for each case in a clear, concise manner. While prepared briefs can never substitute for the insight gained by actually reading a case, these briefs will help readers to identify, understand, and absorb the core take away knowledge from each case. Moreover, these briefs are followed by a useful legal analysis, which provides extra tips and contextual background about each case, connecting the case to the broader concepts being developed throughout the casebook. This book also supplies case vocabulary, which defines new or unusual legal words found throughout the cases. Finally, to enhance the reader's recall, there is a corresponding memory graphic for each brief that portrays an entertaining visual representation of the relevant facts or law of the case.

Great Synopsis.......2007-07-24
It provides the usual memorable cartoons, useful summaries, and thoughtful commentary. Unlike some of the others, like Constitutional Law, I would not rely on the Summaries alone though - there is far too much stuff in the afternotes that obviously cannot be analyzed by the book alone.
But if you like HCCS, I recommend it highly. Its an excellent introduction, and helps you cut through much of the legal verbiage to hone in on what you need to know.

Completely helpful.......2007-01-05
For a small company, this book was just what we needed. It outlined different state requirements, some common pitfalls, and provided sample text for editing. Overall, just what we needed to be a professional little business.
Great Book.......2006-11-05
It's very easy to read and has a wealth of information in it.
Worth its weight in gold!!!.......2004-05-18
This book should be on every employer's bookshelf! I am so impressed by how comprehensive, well organized, and easy to use it is. Steingold really knows what he's talking about, he explains all of the complex laws and regulations that trip up unprepared employers and result in expensive lawsuits. Thanks to this book I learned the best ways to comply with OSHA, wage-and-hour laws, sexual harassment and discrimination laws, the Americans with Disabilities Act and many many more. You owe it to yourself to know your rights and responsibilities as an employer and to protect your company from needless litigation.
A mile wide and several feet deep.......2000-11-16
An excelent, readable, survey of the law on this topic. The greatest strengths of the book are two-fold. First, it is written in easy to follow, plain english. Second, it is amazingly comprehensive. I have been practicing employment law in two millenia, and this is the book that I use (after reviewing dozens) to teach non-lawyer classes on the topic. As with any survey book, it doesn't cover the details of the many topics it touches. You don't want to use this book to deal with comprehensive planning or an employment law dispute. But if you read this book you'll understand much of the language and many of the concerns of the experienced human resources professional or lawyer that you need.
Protect your business from employee and government law suits.......2000-09-23
Here is the book that will teach you what you need to know to keep compliance with the law and protect your business. Easy to read and comprehend, this book will help you promote fair business practices and avoid lawsuits. Folks, there are many laws most business people don't know about. This book will bring you up to speed. It's a necessity for the small and large business alike.
