5 out of 5 stars 9th Edition is coming out 10/16/2007.......2007-05-16

I think I've owned every edition of this book since 1978. It's been a staple in my library for years. It's a fantastic resource for tons of burning TV trivia questions. Looking forward to the new 9th edition in October 2007. Should be interesting to see the updates. Excellent book idea.

4 out of 5 stars Allou need to know - and then some.......2007-05-13

The title says it all.
This really is a complete reference to every network and cable TV show since 1946 up to the last date for this publication, around 2003.

All the favoutites are here that one may care to mention - from West Wing to Dallas, Star Trek to Bonanza, and others you may have forgotten - Gemini Man, AfterMASH anyone?

The strengths of this book are in the synopses which are entertaining and informtive at the same time, so this book is more than just a dry listing of information. Also included is an extensive index on such items as longest season runs, Neilsen numbers etc.

Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars FYI.......2007-05-01

An excellent addition to your library. I have heard that the 9th edition should be released in the fall of 2007.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent....however,.......2007-03-02

It's been almost 4 years since the 8th Edition came out. A lot has happened on TV since 2003--Lost? Criminal Minds? Deadwood? House? Heroes?...the list goes on. I hope the 9th Edition is just as informative.

5 out of 5 stars The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows: 1946-Present, Eighth Edition .......2007-02-26

An excellent collection. It has settled many questions we have about what we were watching back then. With the weekly primetime schedules from the beginning to present, we obtain the program and then lookup all the information available on the subject and there is a lot to read about most of them!

Book Description

Today seven million African American women are living in their prime, experiencing the joys, the challenges, and the opportunities of middle age. Now, at last, here is the book that specifically addresses our total health needs--physical, emotional, and spiritual. Written by a distinguished physician and clinical psychologist, Prime Time is the first complete guide that empowers us to take charge of our lives and attain the well-being we deserve.

In many ways, it's true that we are better off today than our foremothers were: We earn more money, command more respect. Yet in spite of these advances, we still experience more chronic health problems, endure more stress, and live shorter lives than women of other races. That's why Prime Time is both urgent and essential. This groundbreaking book not only lays out a detailed, practical plan for overall healing and for maintaining wellness, it also addresses the underlying attitudes and assumptions that lead so many of us to neglect ourselves and undermine our own health.

It's time for us as African American women at midlife to start putting ourselves first. We can save our own lives and stop ourselves from dying too soon. To do this, we each need to acquire up-to-the-minute information about our unique health concerns, adjust our diet and exercise program, and use the "power of prevention" to improve the quality of daily life. Prime Time helps you do all this and more by combining both traditional medicine and a holistic approach. It covers the full range of health options you can incorporate into your life, starting now--including self-tests and quizzes that reveal your health profile and vital tips on dealing with the often-overwhelming health-care system.

A central section on the Big Four--heart disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes--explores why black women run a high risk of developing these conditions, why they so often go undetected and untreated, and what we can do about them. Prime Time also deals powerfully and directly with the psychological and spiritual issues that stand in the way of our true well-being. Historically, African American women have been expected to function as "strong black women" to overcome the harsh realities with which we've been confronted. Anger and "attitude" have often become part of our protective shield. Prime Time provides sensible, usable, and even enjoyable methods you can employ to overcome anxiety and other negative moods, channel anger in life-affirming ways, and find "Prime Time Sisters" to share this wonderful journey with you.

Comprehensive, straight-talking, and grounded in science and spiritual truth, Prime Time is at once a guide to total health in middle age and a celebration of the strength, wisdom, and beauty of African American women in their second half of life.

5 out of 5 stars An important handbook for midlife women.......2001-07-05

Prime Time provides an Afro-American women's sourcebook to midlife health and wellness, providing particular information for black women ranging from understanding the health care system to defusing anger and managing stress. From assessing the risk for diabetes to understanding the common signs of depression, Prime Time is an important handbook for midlife women.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Awesome!.......2001-06-09

Though I am not quite yet within the demographic age group this treasure was targeted at I have been blessed with a better understanding of what will be necessary to sustain a better spiritual, physical and generally healthy lifestyle. I especially appreciated the writing style of the authors. The personal testimonies made the book very personal and relatable. I found the authors candid, knowledgeable and thorough in their research. This book is great for general reading and understanding (I like curling up with it on the sofa). It's also a must for every woman's personal reference library.

5 out of 5 stars Classic.......2001-05-30

This is a powerful, thorough and scientifically-based book for African American Women. Its focus is on wellness, disease prevention, and specific treatments for many of the ailments from which many African American women suffer. The book is well organized with clear and detailed disucssions of complex topics written in plain English.

There are many things which set this book apart. First it is targeted to African American women and distinguishes illnesses and treatments that are applicable specifically to them. Yet, other women can derive tremendous benefit from the detailed information.

Second, the authors present real life examples and true stories drawn from their own lives, and from the lives of the many women with whom they talked and discussed health experiences, challenges, concerns and triumphs.

Third, the authors include unique assessments which readers can take to help them focus on and address their health and wellness issues and concerns. This feature, in my mind, sets a new standard for books of this type.

Fourth, the authors' handling of the topic is broad and deep and includes good coverage of both the physical and emotional wellbeing and other aspects of total wellness.

Fifth, the book is filled with important graphics including photographs which clearly depict the message of this book: African American women can and do take personal responsibility for their own health and wellness.

This book is for the lay person or clinician, the healthy or the ill; It is for women at their prime - whether before, at or beyond midlife.

Men can also benefit personally from this complete and comprehensive guide to midlife health and wellness. I did.

The book is straightforward, authoratative and easy to read. The authors are not ivory tower academics: they have had plenty of hands-on experience. As a college/university textbook it should be compulsory reading. As a professional text, it is a necessary purchase.

1 out of 5 stars Worst Sandra Brown I have read yet........2005-11-03

I'm wondering how Brown has the ability to write great novels such as WHITE HOT or SUNNY CHANDLER'S RETURN and then waste her time and efforts on PRIME TIME which was so lame. Not one aspect of Prime Time was developed. The characters lacked depth, the plot itself was thin and boring, and the dialogue was cliche and predictable.

I wouldn't even recommend this book to die-hard Brown fans.

2 out of 5 stars Prime Time Should Air Late At Night!.......2005-05-14

PRIME TIME was originally published under the pseudonym of Rachel Ryan.

This is a story about a TV reporter, Andrea Malone who wants a network job. She's sure an interview with a retired US General in Texas will get that job for her if she can reveal his reason for the self-imposed seclusion. The only thing she has trouble with is his son, Lyon Ratiff. The anger, suspicion and uneasiness leads to love. Wow, does anything not lead to love with Sandra Brown?

PRIME TIME has a good story line, but nothing surprising in the plot line. The characters are strong but not as developed as they could be. If more depth were given to the characters, it may have led to a few twists and turns that were unexpected and would keep the reader on the edge of his/her seat!. Don't change your schedule to fit this book in, just use it to stop gaps in your schedule and you'll be happy!

4 out of 5 stars Keeps you hot!.......2004-07-20

I'll admit some of the other reviewers were right: there's no real plot and the characters' actions dun make sense. But its really a great beach read.
:) But I'm biased cuz I'm a sucker for jealous lovers.

5 out of 5 stars cool.......2004-05-17

This amazing book by Matt Christopher is awsome. It's about a boy named Koby who plays for the Cardinals and is the teams best pitcher but to to go along with the pitcher you have ta have a catcher witch his name is Tug.When a T.V. crew comes along and wants to learn about Middle school life but they want to follow around one person witch is koby. Can koby take the heat from being followed around by a camra crew are will he lose his friends? If you want to find out what happens read THE PRIME TIME PITCHER.

1 out of 5 stars Is she serious?.......2002-10-13

This is the worst! This novel reminds me of those skinny harlequins I used to read as a teenager. Everything moves too fast here to be real. The hero meets the heroine and supposedly hates her but then starts acting like a jealous lover???

I didn't look at the publication date on this one, but I'm going to assume it's an old Sandra Brown. I'd advise others not to read it.

Everything you wanted to know about the biggest prime time serial of all times: DALLAS

only downside: no episode summaries but so much trivia it's unbelievable!!!!!

No true Dallas fan should go without it!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great book.......2007-03-08

This truly is a COMPLETE synopsis of the entire series. There are interviews with the actors and each episode is described. This is a must have for any Dallas fan!

5 out of 5 stars A Truly Complete Resource for Die-Hard Dallas Fans.......2006-02-18

Barbara A. Curran did a phenomenal job putting together Dallas: The Complete Story of the World's Favorite Prime-Time Soap.

For starters, this book is THICK and packed with information. It is a timeline of Dallas, beginning with concept development by producers, selection of cast and development of the characters, and selection of filming locations. What I found exciting about the presentation is that in addition to the full history of the show season by season, this book includes trivia facts as well as personal notes from the cast/crew/producers.

This book did an excellent job of giving me the "complete" story about the show and I enjoyed it immensely. I have found it especially entertaining to read corresponding seasons in the book as I acquire the DVD's and watch them. Very insightful.

The only thing I would change is perhaps expanding on the photo section, including some color photos and some larger-sized photos so you can see the details better.

I would strongly recommend this book as an important addition to any Dallas fan's collection.

1 out of 5 stars not like the soap.......2006-02-17

I thought this was going to be the story of the soap "Dallas".

I returned the book as soon as I saw it wasn't what I thought it
was ging to be.

5 out of 5 stars BUY THIS BOOK!!! It's even better the 2nd time around!!!.......2005-11-16

First of all I purchased the FIRST edition when it debuted and was so impressed, amazed and overwhelmingly satisfied with the content. When I heard about a 2nd edition with added features, I was little skeptical about buying another book of the same (despite the fact that I am a tremendous DALLAS fan). WELL! thank goodness I picked up a copy because the 2nd edition is even better than the first (how's that possible, right!). Just having an opportunity to read an Introduction written by Victoria Principal was worth every single penny. Do you know how exciting it was to finally hear VP's feelings on her whole DALLAS experience and how she finally clears the air about the 'distance' she's maintained from the series all these years! Personally, I've always associated her with DALLAS and any interest I'd have in any of her work/projects would be as a result of her DALLAS relation. I really dislike when actors insist on ignoring what brought them to the top. Please don't misunderstand, VP is extremely brilliant & talented in her own right but who would care about her skin care line if she wasn't PAM from DALLAS! Most people wouldn't even know who she was! But with the new edition, any bitterness a 'Pam' fan may have is all laid to rest when you read her introduction and also read her quotes from the Return to Southfork chapter on the reunion.

Let me tell you that the DALLAS fan is very fortunate someone decided to do a second run of this book by including The Return to Southfork chapter, VP's intro and a foreword by the DALLAS creator David Jacob's as well as additional photos. There is also mention about the future DALLAS movie. Let's hope the powers that be don't screw it up and keep it true to the original!

I cannot stress enough how the 2nd edition of this book was worth every single penny. There are not enough accolades to describe how Barbara Curran perfected a masterpiece!

One further note, in the Return to Southfork chapter, any curiosity that you may have as to how the reunion show was perceived, i.e. success or failure, is answered. The reader is provided with a variety of quotes & opinions from media outlets on the reunion show. There was one in particular about it being too overdone and how the cast members turned on the waterworks!....that really disgusted me! What a pity that in our society you are unable to appreciate a cast's genuine love & affection for one another (these cast members what a class act...they don't make em like they used to)! Like they say dirt sells so I'm to assume if they were all talking trash amongst each other.......the ratings would have been better??? Puhleeze!!!

Book Description

"There's no better place in the world for meat, conversation, and good old friendship." —Whoopi Goldberg advance praise for prime time: "Grilling is my favorite way of cooking (except for deep-frying, of course, but that's another story) and I've done a lot of it over the years—but Prime Time taught me lots and reassured me plenty and introduced me to some marinating tricks I'd never thought of." —Colman Andrews, Editor, Saveur "For generations, the Lobel brothers have been New York's preferred meat purveyors and trusted authorities to the carriage trade, with a staunch following among the city's top hosts, caterers, and chefs. Now, with the tell-all publication of Prime Time, the Lobels make it possible for any literate carnivore to reach master status at the grill, whether one is in the mood for the best of all classic burgers or grilled meat loaf or more cosmopolitan main events such as Fiery Asian-Style Pork Loin Roast with Salsa or Honey Mustard Chicken Kabobs. Fire up!" —Michael & Ariane Batterberry, Founding Editors of Food Arts and Food & Wine magazines "One of the best reasons I can think of for staying home is to cook myself a steak from Lobel's. The quality is always great. They are among the nicest institutions on the East Side, and it's fun to see a bunch of guys waving butcher knives at me every time I pass their window." —Tony Roberts Visit us online at www.mgr.com

3 out of 5 stars Nothing special.......2007-06-27

Prime time: The Lobels' Guide to Great Grilled Meats (Complete Idiots Guide) offers a collection of pedestrian recipes for the grill. Written by New York's premiere butchers, the book covers meat from beef to pork to poultry with a section on condiments. The tips and tidbits offered are neither novel nor innovative.

I expected more from the author than this routine offering. Like prime time television it neither challenges or inspires. I suppose I should have paid more attention to the fact it is dubbed a "complete idiots guide". If you are looking for a basic guide to grilling, this will do as well as the meat section of any popular cookbook. However, if you aspire to thrill with the grill, there are many, many books that are superior.

5 out of 5 stars Lobel's Guide to Meat.......2003-10-10

This is a goldmine for explaining the intricacies of meat
preparation. The book explains soup stock, stuffing and
barbecuing. The author distinguishes between the caloric
content, proteins and fats. This work explains how to
pack meat. In fact, the author describes the meat-packing
industry West of Chicago. The author demonstrates how various
food elements are inter-related in the complex interaction
of digestion. Meat provides important dietary amino acids and
iron. This book is a good value for all meat connoisseurs.

5 out of 5 stars Such a unique grilling book.......2000-03-18

The Lobels' have introduced a very nice and unique cookbook with the release of this one. I own several other grilling cookbooks, and there are many good ones out there. This one is my absolute favorite because the recipes are a little more than your basic grilled steak or hamburger. Try the grilled filet mignon with gorgonzola-scallion compound butter and the sirloin steak with rosemary brushed potatoes and red peppers. Don't forget to try the barbeque sauce. It's fantastic. The book's contents include tips on grilling, burgers, beef and veal, lamb and pork, poultry, game and game birds, and sauces, salsas, maranades, rubs and other condiments. There are no fish recipes so if you are looking for that specifically, find another cookbook. If everything else sounds good to you, you will enjoy this inovative book by the Lobels'.

5 out of 5 stars This book is the best source for grilling meat........1999-06-21

Finally! A book that really tells us everything we need and want to know about grilling meat. As author of 3 cookbooks on grilling, including "Marinades, the Secret of Great Grilling", I can tell you that I am buying this book for everyone I know who grills meat - and that is just about everyone I know. It's so well organized that I can find information at a glance. The recipes are readable, do-able, and taste terrific.

5 out of 5 stars A must for every Baywatch-fan ! .......2004-08-12

This book is a real must for each Baywatch-fan.
Gregory J. Bonann (the author and producer of the show)
clearely writes how the show and the idea begann.
In this book you can find some rear photographs
of the series and actors.
Also, a very complete book, because it has
a complete episode list behind in which are mentioned
all the artists that had featured songs on Baywatch.
The format is normal and paper quality very good.

4 out of 5 stars Who wrote this?.......2000-10-23

I can tell that whoever wrote the scripts did not write the book. Actually I have read Assault on Lake Casitas by Brad Alan Lewis. Rescued from Prime Time definitely exhibits his intelligent writing style. What is he doing associating himself with Baywatch? I guess this is one way to bring a little class to this old, cliched TV series. By the way, the Baywatch book is pretty interesting.

5 out of 5 stars Surprised!.......2000-10-20

A friend of mine gave me this book. (He knows I'm a big fan of Alexandra Paul - she was a Baywatch star - in my opinion she's much sexier than Pamela Anderson.) Anyway, I figured this would just be a fluff piece - a few paragraphs to fill in the space between all the pictures (which are excellent, by the way). To my surprise, I found the book to be quite interesting. Basically it's one guy's story - how he thought up the idea for Baywatch - how he spent years trying to get someone interested - how he fought to get the show back on the air after it was canceled by NBC. I found the story to be downright exciting. Overall, I think you don't need to be a Baywatch fan to enjoy the book - it's a good read.

5 out of 5 stars Baywatch: Rescued from Prime Time.......2000-10-12

Baywatch isn't Shakespear but then again neither is 99.99% of the stuff on TV. Nonetheless, my kids and I enjoy watching the show, and I really enjoyed reading the book. The author - the same guy who created the show - takes the reader through the process of getting Baywatch on the air - first at NBC and then on syndicated TV. I was truly impressed by the sheer amount of work this guy did to make it a success. Clearly he has a work ethic that most of us mere mortals can only envy. And if anyone is interested in a how-to for creating their own TV series, you could get a lot of good ideas from this book.

1 out of 5 stars Boring, self-indulgent, insipid look at Baywatch.......2000-08-19

If I was drowning I would not want the author of this pitiful book to rescue me. He would pobably have photographers waiting to take his picture to make himself out as a hero, then drop me face first in the sand. I'm sure there were a lot of talented people involved with making Baywatch the phenomenal international success it became. But if this author is to be believed he did it alone in spite of everyone else's lack of talent. This man's ego is large enough to float that sunken Russian sub to the surface all by itself.

My advise is to pass on buying this book unless you want to be another air bubble pumped into the swelled head of a hack writer.

Book Description

Television history was made on April 30, 1997, when comedian Ellen DeGeneres and her sitcom alter-ego Ellen Morgan, "came out" to her close friends and 36 million viewers. This groundbreaking episode represented a significant milestone in Amerian television. For the first time, a TV series centered around a lesbian character who was portrayed by an openly gay actor. The millions of viewers who tuned in that historic night were witnesses to a new era in television. THE PRIME TIME CLOSET offers an entertaining and in-depth glimpse into homosexuality on television from the 1950s through today. Divided into four sections, each devoted to a major television genre, this unique book explores how gay men and lesbians have been depicted in over three hundred television episodes and made-for-TV films. These include medical series, police/detective shows, situation comedies and TV dramas. THE PRIME TIME CLOSET also reveals how television's treatement of homosexuality has reflected and reinforced society's ignorance about and fear of gay men and lesbians. At the same time, it celebrates programs like Ellen and Will and Grace that have broken new ground in their sensitive and enlightened approach to homosexuality and gay-related themes. This book is witty and insightful, accessible and illuminating, a look into what has become an integral part of American media culture.

4 out of 5 stars Coming Out of the Closets.......2003-06-21

Having read Stephen Capsuto's book "Alternate Channels" I was eager to read this fairly recent work by Stephen Tropiano on gay and lesbian representation on the small screen. Both books are valuable and reliable resources but I think to compare both books against each other is a little unjust to both authors. Tropiano brings to light shows and episodes that Capsuto missed or forgot to mention for one reason or another and really picks up where Capsuto's earlier work leaves off.
That being said I did have a few problems with this book.
First, Tropiano categorizes representation by genre of show. For example, early homosexual image, law and cop shows, dramas, and sitcoms. While this is a unique style that works well, it sometimes hard for the reader to grasp the social significance of a show done in the 1950's when in the next paragraph he is talking about a more recent episode and show. A chronological style would have enabled the reader to see the social connotations and historical references better, I think.
Author Tropiano does a good job of describing the episodes in detail (a little too good at times) giving the reader a full detailed summary of the individual episodes' plot with dialogue. Where I got frustrated as a reader was the fact that Tropianos goes on and on describing episode after episode; without ever giving his critical insight on why he thinks the episode(s) are significant. (Being a gay studies and popular culture critic myself this is also a familiar and dangerous trap that I have fallen into myself.)
It is nit-picky but I noticed some very oblivious typos and mis-wording and I'm usually the last person to notice such references.
Still all and all, this is highly valuable text for television and gay studies readers and scholars alike. There is no denying the depth of the research that was done here and for that I gladly applaud and say "Bravo!"

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful book: Attention All Universities and Colleges.......2002-08-15

Stephen Tropiano's book is a ground breaking, scholarly book about a topic which has rarely received such meticulous attention. The book is well-written and a page turner. An enormous amount of research went into the book. Tropiano has created a definitive study of the history of homosexuality on television. One cannot help but be amazed at how powerful television was (and is) in defining how entire groups of people were seen ~ and judged. It was not too long ago that [homosexuals] were being defined as "a social problem" or "having an illness" on well-intentioned but blatantly off-based news programs and some of the first produced talk shows. I recommend this book highly to colleges, universities, and the general public.

5 out of 5 stars FAAAAAABULOUS!!!!.......2002-07-06

I use the word 'faaaaabulous' for Stephen Tropiano's "The Prime Time closet" not to perpetuate a stereotypical gay word but as an homage to Tropiano's engaging, offbeat combination of camp and intelligence in presenting an incredibly accurate, exhaustive and, ultimately, extremely excellent study of the history of gays and lesbians on television. It is impressive enough that the author managed to gather hundreds of hours of television episodes and news programs (dating back to the 1950s) that featured gays and lesbians. But his analysis of where we've been, where we are and where we are going is so impressive that I'm sure it is just a matter of time before someone (hopefully Tropiano) takes this book and turns it into a historical documentary a la "The Celluloid Closet."

Tropiano fittingly pays tribute to Celluloid's author, the late Vito Russo, in the book's introduction, and then, for lack of a better word, picks up his mantle and runs with it. This is a thorough, intelligent piece of work. It's important. It's funny. It's generally readable. And, most of all, it's ACCURATE.

I'm of an age where I remember many of these episodes, yet never put them in the contextual order the author manages to. It is so clear to see that he is devoted to telling the truth about our representation - good and bad - and that he has dedicated what must have been years in order to bring this information to the general public. In fact, one of the most impressive things about this book to me is that it appeals to both gay and straight audiences, intellectuals and the general public, and men and women equally. In an age where we all seem to be ghettoized in our specific special interest groups, "Prime Time Closet" provides a bridge for all of us into the truth.

Grouping TV history by genre - medical dramas - law and order dramas - tv movies and miniseries - and comedy - was a brilliant idea because the categories really do cover most of the high (and "low") points of what is and was out there. The choice to box some episodes (a la TV Guide closeups) was hysterical as were many of Tropiano's lists towards the back of the book rating different tv episodes (check out the list of TV Variety shows rated on the Kinsey scale of most gay ("As gay as it gets," "Look Mary, a show for us," to least gay, "a touch of pink," "don't ask, don't tell." ) What I also like is that unlike so many "gay" books, Tropiano doesn't get mired in the camp. He just uses it as an occassional way to spice things up. Make no mistake about it, this is an intellectual work, and an extremely impressive one at that. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

By the way, I read a previous review of a reader chastising Tropiano for not being accurate in several places and implying the book probably has many more mistakes his "eagle" eye didn't catch. Wrong!!! Tropiano is correct in stating that the episode of "Family" (Rites of Friendship) premiered Sept. 28, 1976 because it was the opener of the season, not first aired Dec. 28, 1976 as the reviewer asserts. He also nitpicked about Tropiano leaving out minor episodes of "WKRP in Cincinnati" and "Murder She Wrote." Big deal. There are always going to be a few omissions like that in a book this large. The fact that Tropiano got about 99 and a half % of it right, is cause to be impressed and buy the book, not to take an opportunity to chastize an author that did valuable, important work. As for his criticism of Tropiano for sometimes using the term "homosexual" to refer to gay men and lesbians (he also uses the terms gays and lesbians) and likening it to calling an African American a "Negro," I don't know what to say. This author has written a compelling, authoritative survey of a subject about "homosexuality" on TV. Should he just leave out the word homosexual to be politically correct? And when did it become bad to be called a homosexual anyway??? The latter is more the sort of thing this book addresses so impressively.

5 out of 5 stars PRIME TIME CLOSET.......2002-06-23

A summary from the book's author:

The Prime Time Closet takes an informative and entertaining look at the history of homosexuality on television. It examines how
TV has treated the subject of homosexuality and represented gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender characters on medical dramas,
police and detective shows, legal dramas, prime time and daytime soaps, teen dramas, made-for-TV movies, mini-series, and situation comedies. The book contains an appendix listing gay-themed episodes and characters from the mid-1950's through the present day.

3 out of 5 stars Exhaustive, but many errors.......2002-06-22

Tropiano, otherwise known for his kitschy tours of imaginary tv towns, provides an exhaustive survey of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered television characters. The thematic approach makes it more engaging and readable than "Alternative Channels." But there are many errors and exclusions. The Room 222 episode "What is a Man?" aired December 3, 1971, not March 4, 1971. The Family episode "Rites of Friendship" aired December 28, 1976, not September 28, 1976. And that's just the ones I checked.

Several exclusions come immediately to mind: a stereotypical gay man named "Judy" on "Medical Center"; a gay photographer who fails to exercise interest in Jennifer on "WKRP in Cincinnati"; Robert Reed as a gay mystery writer on "Murder, She Wrote"; an auto mechanic who brings a same-sex date to a concert on "That 70's Show." Of course, no one has to include everything, but again I wonder what else the author missed.

Finally, the author frequently uses the outdated and offensive term "homosexual" in reference to gay persons. Would any writer today use the term "Negro" as a synonym for "African American"?

Book Description

Whitetail rut behavior and the hunting strategies that take it into account have come a long way in the last thirty years. We now know when--almost to the date-whitetails breed in a particular geographic location. We can translate and decipher deer vocalizations and language; have better knowledge of the size of a buck's home range; know why bucks make rubs, and where; and much more.

Still, one thing remains the same: The rut is a time for hope and big dreams--that the biggest buck in the woods will be so transfixed that he'll finally make the mistake that brings him within range.

Here, from some of the most respected and entertaining writers in the business, is an anthology of hunting the rut. Chapters include:

Catching the Early Rut, by Gary Clancy; Hitting the Rut Right, by Greg Miller; S-L-O-W Stalking the Rut, by Bob McNally; Forget About Hunting Scrapes, by John Weiss; Do You Savvy Rut Speak? by John Weiss; The Seven Phases of the Rut, by Curt Wells; EZ Guide to Calling Bucks, by Michael Hanback; Best Stands for the Rut, by Bill Winke; Calling the Rut, by John Weiss; Just a Matter of Time, by Kenn Young; Climb High for Rutting Bucks, by Bob Robb; Sure-Cure for the Post-Rut Blues, by Greg Miller; Early Rubs and How to Hunt Them, by Greg Miller; A Sham in the Deer Woods! by Gary Clancy; Follow Your Does, by Dave Justmann; and more.
