Six Ways to create a legacy that lives on beyond you.

All hype, no content.......2007-08-10
I've been on a personal finance reading binge all summer and the one trend I keep seeing is the wealth building book that offers all sorts of rah-rah motivational speeches without any concrete advice on how to actually become wealthy. This book is no exception. I guess it's helpful for some to do the exercises to "think like millionaires think", but I'm looking for real world examples on HOW these people became millionaires, not a bunch of pointless anecdotes on swimming in shark tanks and overcoming fears. Give me some ideas on how you became a millionaire--and point out the RISK involved in those deals, because if it were really that simple everyone would be doing it. If you're looking for real instruction on building your wealth AND eliminating your debt I highly recommend Dave Ramsey's books.
The Maui Millionaires.......2007-07-18
What is the secret to true wealth? Do you have to have money to make money? Do you have to have a special talent that propels you towards greatness? Are some people just meant to live from paycheck to paycheck?
The Maui Millionaires has some surprising answers to these and other questions about wealth. Unlike many such books that talk about wealth but never really give you any secrets to actually propelling the reader towards change, this guide sets out real things that you can do to change your life in the next 72 hours and exercises that will help you along the way.
In particular, two aspects of this book really impressed me. First, this book focuses on fulfilling dreams: health, relationships, financial, self- development, adventure, and spirituality, and sharing. To me that's the key, it's great to have money but if you don't use it to make your life more enriched what's the point?
Secondly, the first few chapters focus on breaking our destructive ways of thinking about money. Often, we unconsciously repel money because we are afraid that having wealth will make us greedy and selfish. The thought never even occurs to us that we could do a lot of good if we only put our minds to it.
Change your thoughts.......2007-05-10
Great book on changing your thoughts from where you are now to creating wealth.
Rehashed Fluff.......2007-03-31
There are little to no real business ideas in the book. Too much time is spent on feel good about money, and rehashing the same tired ideas. Really this book reads like a knock off of Rich Dad Poor Dad and Tony Robbins. Although RDPD and Tony Robbins are much more inspirational and concise.
The author in one section talks about the different "hats" decision makers wear. I thought Mrs. Marsha from Romper Room was writing for a minute.
The "Millionaire Next Door" gives in my opinion a much more realistic portrayal of millionaires. Find a niche, live below your means, and work hard.
Maui Millionaires.......2007-03-10
I am only up to chapter 8. It seems that the author spends an inordinate amount of time trying to convince the reader(listener) that being wealthy is OK. My question is " Why would someone buy this book if they didn't want wealth?"
Book Description
An unprecedented behind-the-scenes look at the men who protect us from the most frightening prospect of life in the age of terrorism"In my mind it's all business; I don't worry about my family, I don't worry about a function that I'm doing after work, I just worry about what's at hand. And what's at hand is that package." --Detective First Grade Joe Putkowski, NYPD Bomb SquadThe New York City Police Department Bomb Squad is the oldest such squad in the nation, founded in 1903. Each year its thirty-three members make more than two hundred stress-filled "bomb runs," in which they check suspicious briefcases, defuse hand grenades, and even respond to "art" projects constructed with real explosives. The public rarely sees these men -- and when they do, it's usually from a distance, telephoto pictures of helmeted figures in ninety-pound suits of Kevlar armor.Starting on December 31, 2003, in the heart of the New Year's Eve action in Times Square, journalists Richard Esposito and Ted Gerstein had exclusive access to the nation's most elite police unit for an entire year. Their often chilling, never-before-told tales from the front line provide an extraordinary view of the domestic war on terrorism.
Customer Reviews:
A must read for those interested in EOD........2007-09-11
As a military Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, I recommend BOMB SQUAD. The authors spent a year in the field with the NYPD BOMB SQUAD. The result is a narrative that strikes the right balance between history, human interest, and blowing stuff up. By the time I finished BOMB SQUAD I understood what it means to be a disposaleer in the Big Apple. I am particularly impressed and amazed with the number of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that New York's Finest face on a regular basis. This book is a must read for anyone interested in EOD, police work, and homeland security. Thank you, Messrs. Esposito and Gerstein.
Boring, Boring, Boring.......2007-06-18
Mr. Gerstein should keep to writing for television. I was completely disappointed in this book. The character development was so minimal you really didn't care what happened to them. Each chapter jumps to a different era making a dry read that much harder. The writer was so constrained by the NYPD to NOT go into any details about bombs or methods to diffuse them the reader was left totally in the dark. While this book may have some minimal value to someone who is either obsessed with bomb squads or is directly connected to this one, for the rest of us this book is a bore. I had to consciously will myself each time to pick it up, hardly a page turner.
To make matters worse, the writer's political leanings are strongly to the right as he obviously is a big fan of the Patriot Act and has strong animosity towards former president Clinton. If you are a Fox News fan, you may enjoy this book.
day to day.......2007-04-11
great book as an emergency first responder in a haz mat specialty position I really enjoyed the story and could identify with the team in many ways.
I purchased this as a gift for my son........2007-04-06
I will wait until he reads the book. Therefore, I can't review it at this time.
A "must read" that's as important as it is informative.......2007-03-21
I knew this book was going to be a good read but I must admit I was greatly surprised to realize how important this book is. Not only is it a great history and peak inside the daily working of the NYPD Bomb Squad, but the fact, figures and observations of the many bomb technicians interviewed make you see the terrorism that has engulfed us for so long with fresh eyes. It's more informative than any Congressional hearing and I would wager that anyone reading this book is not only going to have an exciting read - my heart was racing - but is going to feel that reading this book was time and money well spent. I wish there were more books and authors like "Bomb Squad" and Richard Esposito and Ted Gerstein.

Watergate, Schmatergate, get a load of this: a dead infant, a sleazy president, a manic-depressive first lady, an aide that makes G. Gordon Liddy look like a wuss, murder, adultery, a thousand skeletons peeping from a thousand closets. Exclusive moves so quickly because somebody is always doing something bad. TV journalist Barrie Travis interviews the first lady, a Southern belle still mourning the death of her infant. With a mixture of horror and self-interest, Travis perceives the slightest hint that the first infant didn't merely die, but was murdered. But by who, and why? As you can imagine, that's when it gets messy. The book might capsize under the sheer weight of seamy scandals and sleazy characters were it not for the almost-supernaturally spunky Travis and her somewhat reluctant love-object, craggy ex-Marine Gray Bondurant. Bondurant left the White House under a cloud. Was he the first lady's lover? Travis and Bondurant come together to solve the mystery, of course. If you read fast, you might just keep up.

Grew on me.......2007-09-15
**Spoliers* This was my first book by this author. Though I wasn't over impressed, the author finally won me over in the epilogue of this novel. There was a lot in this book that made no sense. There was a lot of cringe worthy dialogue as well. And yet for the most part I was mildly entertained, at no point did I truely come to care for Barrie and Gray. The woman was a lousy reporter, barnone. And the whole time I was wondering who was taking care of Gray's horses while he was running around Washington. I can't believe that a man (The Senator)who had the type of relationship he reportedly had in this book with his daughter would encourage said daughter to marry a man who murdered a child-and then he didn't immediately wonder whether the man might have killed his own grandchild. There's so many things really, that makes the plot of this novel unbelievable-plus it relies too much on people NOT talking and well...luck. But again, Ms. Brown is a talented storyteller and you find yourself going along even though you know what she's saying is crazy. So in all, I do think this book is worth a peek, but you'll probably forget all about it within a week.
Great surprise ending to a action packed story.......2006-02-11
Barrie Travis is a small potatoes reporter looking for a story that'll catapult her into the big leagues. When she hooks up with the First Lady after the SIDS death of her son, she slowly uncovers a theory about his death which may even lead to murder, and soon finds she's a target of those sinister machinations. With the help of former White House aide Gray Boudrant, who left under a cloud of suspicion that he was having an affair with the First Lady (and might have fathered her child), Barrie slowly unravels more layers, which lead to some high ranking officials, while the First Lady remains in seclusion.
The romance between Barrie and Gray doesn't ring true, but Brown manages to make the pages sizzle. Sure, the story is pretty implausible, but Brown manages to just add one tense moment after another and throw so many villains your way, leading up to a riveting cathartic conclusion and complete surprise ending.
Pretty good.......2005-10-26
Sandra Brown's book exclusive is a decently written book, it wasn't very long, because it was the type of novel for long airplane flights and short drives, it was the type of book that is an alternative to watching reality T.V and saturday morning cartoons. I held no great expectations and it delivered none. The main female character is an impulsive woman who still seeks solcae from her early traumatic life, she embarrasses herself through out the book with her wrong hunches and mediocre ideas. She badgered the main male character into speaking with her, he didn't surrender much, yet, through circumstances spawned by her they open up 'a can of govermental worms you might say'.The rising to falling action is decent, the dialogue is pretty witty, all in all it's not a bad book.
Great Fun!.......2005-08-16
First, let me say that some of the other reviewers are correct in that this is not a terribly deep story. But if you're looking for such a story, Sandra Brown is probably not the author for you. Nonetheless, I would STRONGLY recommend this book if you're looking for a fun, fast-paced mystery with an unconventional, but sweet relationship developing alongside the mystery.
Exclusive is definetly a page turner...I couldn't put it down! Far-fetched, yes, but also great fun, particulary if you're looking for a good vacation book. The mystery is kind of quirky, but very gripping.
The hero is the perfect tough guy throughout, but with key moments of kindness. And as another reader says, Barrie is a fabulous heroine. Very feisty, but the author also lets her make many mistakes which makes her all the more human. In short, the two of them have really great chemistry which sometimes doesn't happen in the more "hearts and flowers" type romances. Yes, the relationship is heavily centered on the physical aspect, but there are enough tender moments to keep it satisfying.
In addition to the the romance, there are also perfectly dispicable villains, and plenty of plot twits and action.
I'm a great Sandra Brown fan, and this is definetly one of my favorites. If you're looking for another of hers to try, I'd recommend "Where There's Smoke." She used to write romances which are also worth a read, but her more contemporary romantic suspenses are a hit nearly every time.
If you want complex characters, and unsensational plot, or hearts and flowers romance, this isn't for you, but if you want a fast, fun and sexy read, try Exclusive!
Way Out There.......2005-06-08
Okay, this story was waaaay out there, far fetched doesn't even begin to describe it. Yes, we all know there is scandal in Washington, and that politicians usually have their share of skeletons, but this was completely ridiculous ...but not in a bad way. It's fiction, so it stretches the imaginations. It would make a great movie drama for sure. Overall, though very unrealistic, I still enjoyed it. Hey, we all enjoy movies that are way out there, this book is no different. The sexual encounter between the two lead characters which happens a hot second after they meet did catch me off guard, but it keeps you on your toes. I gave it three stars because there wasn't enough romance for me, but it WAS well worth the read ...and the money. Thumbs WAY up!

If you want to know more about architecture in the Caribbean, you have to read this book!
Caribbean Elegance.......2007-04-11
Through his work at la Marina, Casa de Campo, Gian Franco Fini captures the essence of refined architecture with a perfect air of Caribbean elegance.
A place to visit before you dies........2007-04-10
This is a book about one of those magical places that once you get there you don't want to leave. It's in the path of boats coming from Miami to the West Indies and is the place to see in the Caribbean before you die. Casa de Campo is the Caribbean most complete resort by far where any possible hobby in the world could practiced at world renowned conditions -besides skiing, except if you change it for water-sky-. The book about the Casa de Campo's Marina is definitely a 5 start in class, quality and content. This is the real thing in Caribbean Elegance and Luxury where you'll be able to find some of the most exclusive houses in the region.
The Best Keep Secret in the Caribbean unveils........2007-03-02
This is the only book available about Marinas from an architectural standpoint. Blueprints, sketches and more than 300 full-color pictures are a never ending source for one of the most luxurious approach to Caribbean Architecture. It's about the renowned Marina at Casa de Campo, La Romana, Dominican Republic and is a must for anyone willing see from the inside out as many options as possible to recreate a tropical paradise despite if it's and apartment or a houses under 2,000 sqf or a masterpiece above 20,000 sqf.
In contrast with W.R. Blain's book for "Marina Developments" -That is an excellent and maybe the only book about Marinas from a structural standpoint- this one is an architectural approach to Marinas and all the elements around it such as Yacht Club, Apartments, Houses, Restaurants and all related services. It's full of details and references in a text that is catchy and easy to read. My only concern was that I thought it was pricy in the first place despite that it was printed and bounded in Italy, but Blain's book is above the $250 and this one is more related to interior design and architecture so it's worth 5 out 5 starts.

Customer Reviews:
Pretty pics, not much else.......2007-09-04
The book is lovely, but it could've been so much better if it had more desciptions of what you're looking at. Instead, it's full of little phrases that may be helpful, but they are also somewhat pithy. I wish I had purchased a couple of magazine subscriptions instead.
Informative and Inspirational.......2006-07-28
I love looking at House Beautiful books. I find the pictures to be inspirational. However, I usually don't think the text is very informative. I was pleasantly surprised to find House Beautiful 750 Designer Secrets to be an exception to the rule. It does contain beautiful photographs, but the "secrets" are useful and/or inspirational comments by designers. I have to admit I don't recognize the names of most of them, but I find the information to be consistent with other interior design/decoration books I have read. The quotes may not always be particulary earthshattering, but there were enough good ones to justify giving House Beautiful 750 Designer Secrets a 5. Out of 750 quotes you are bound to find something that is useful to you!
Now, just to give you a clear picture of what the book does and does not have to offer: no where is there a set of explicit instructions for how to incoporate the comments dirtectly to your home, but that is not the intention of the book. It is suppose to make you think for yourself how to add your own sense of style to your house. The book is set up so that there is a picture or two on a page and quotes by several different designers. The pictures illustrate the comments. I choose the following quotes because I thought that they are good advice and/or they made me rethink how I decorate my rooms.
"The most important thing is what you feel when you walk into a room." Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz
"Not interfering with views is decorating 101." Scott Salvator
"You don't need a lot of elements to create a dynamic effect." Jeffrey Marks
"Anchor a large room with a sense of symmetry." (quote from the author).
"I edit rigourously for scale, form, and color." Celeste Cooper
"Incorporate a common thread-such as a neutral color-to unify electric furnishings." Kelly Harmon
The one drawback to the book for some people might be that the pictures portray a similar style of decoration. If you like a mix of modern and antique, you will probably like the book, but those who like other styles, may or may not enjoy the pictures in the book. However, I think that the information given by the designers applies to any style.

Solid release.......2007-03-10
If you like the magazine you'll enjoy this collection. The pictures are well done, not great and not bad. Just a good collection with celebrities. I too think the cover was the best photo.
Fluff.......2007-03-02
Possibly the best picture is the cover. Inside, the photo quality is pretty damn poor and some of the subjects not very attractive to the camera. All in all, a disappointment. I have thrown this in the trash like the bad magazine the pictures come from.
Beautiful, just beautiful........2007-01-06
I know what you're thinking... Anyone reviewing this is just a pervert who wants to gawk at scantilly clad women. I beg to differ. I purchased this book as a reference for figure drawing and I'm very pleased with it. The photographers are very skilled at creating a beautiful setting, creative lighting, and solid composition.

A Blessing , to Own.......2007-09-27
The newer bindings are not of the same quality of days gone by :-(
Content is still 5 star all the way!
Everyone is cuting cost, out sourceing to countries with cheaper labor..
This is one of the few bibles still printed in the USA.
Quality and prices are driven by the customers. We all send a vote in when we make a purchase based on either (quality) or (price).
For this day and time, this bible is very well made and i luv my copy!
Very needed study Bible.......2007-09-01
If you've recently tried to find a Bible to suit your needs, you know that it is absolutely difficult. I know, and I'm a preacher, lol. The Open Study Bible and the Thompson Chain-Reference Study Bible are two types of Bibles that I recommend for students of Scripture both new and old. The references in this study Bible are organized and listed in a very useful way. As every Bible's purpose is unique, the Thompson Chain is no different. It's chain referencing system is not duplicated elsewhere. Therefore, it's an essential aid to the personal library.
Reliable old Thompson - now newer than ever!.......2007-02-08
My old Thompsons had fallen apart, and as much as I would have liked an NIV (or even a HCSB) the NKJV is new and expanded. It is well worth buying for the widened and updated features. The chain reference system and some of the other helps are so useful, I just have to have a Thompsons on my desk. I find it invaluable that almost every chapter has an approximate date attached to it, making the OT very easy to track. The binding is semi-yap and very good for the price, and although I would have liked calfskin, the difference in cost makes this the best buy.
not leather as advertised!.......2007-01-10
The content of this Bible is wonderful, but it is BONDED leather, not "leather bound" as advertised.
great bible!.......2006-07-13
This is highly recommended, great translation and the thompson chain reference is a great way to learn and study the bible.

Customer Reviews:
Missing some crucial information.......2007-06-05
I relied on the previous reviews and brought this book with me on a recent trip to French Polynesia. I should have been more careful. One reviewer, for example, noted the inclusion of ten (though I see eight) "undescribed little octopi." How does he know that they're little? The book doesn't give size information. The first of the eight is described as large, then there is no size information for the next two, and then the fourth is "another small species." How small? How small is a small octopus, anyway? It's not something I know, but it is something I expect a guide to tell me. Also, the one octopus I spent most time watching changed color repeatedly, and I would have liked to have seen something about coloration possibilities.
I'm rating this book harshly became I see what more it could have been. It's also a heavy book, and weight is crucial on inter-island flights. Next time, I'm bringing Allen and Steene's Indo-Pacific Coral Reef Field Guide. It has fewer entries and devotes the plurality of its pages to fish, which are better covered elsewhere, but it's lighter weight and gives size information.
great guide for diver, non diver, and any curious amateur!.......2007-01-13
Great photos, wide coverage, this book is a very simple and easy guide for any lover of the coral reef animals [even if its not a biological or academic textbook with full description and additional detail]. It gives key for coral reef animals identification and provide enough basic information to assist any non specialist, in particular diver.
Informative book for identifying invertebrates.......2006-03-02
The book is written from the prospective of the conservator rather than that of the coral reef keeper. However, the information is pertinent to both. The photographs are clear and provide a tool in identifying salt water invertebrates.
Simply the best invertebrate book.......2001-03-11
I only have positive thoughts about this great reference. It is simply the best book ever written on the invertebrates of the Indian Ocean and especially the Indonesian area. It is like an oversized version of Debelius` field guides, but this one truly rocks! It does not only include 1105 interesting invertebrate species, but also some great information about them. Some species are such new to science that they`ve not even been described. For example, there are 10 undescribed little octopi. If any animal are more strikingly colourfull than reef fishes, these are the ones. I love all animals but I especially like the chapters about flatworms, crustaceans, and molluscs,of which many species are new to me. I already have a great knowledge of animals for beeing such young, and this book gives me much more. When I take a trip to Thailand for the next winter,I`ll bring this book and see how many invertebrates I`ll recognize from it. Over all, this is a great book and would recommend it to any serious scientist, aquarium hobbyist, invertebrate lover,or the one that just likes strong colours. The price is high, but believe me,it`s definitly worth it!
Fantastic Assortment of Pictures........1999-12-26
This soft-cover book provides some of the most vivid color pictures of marine invertebrates that I have seen to date. However, do not expect involved explanations about each species listed. Scientific names are given for each species, but common names are not always included. Very little information given concerning how each species relates in the aquarium environment.
