Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

3 out of 5 stars Twisting away.......2006-11-02

epic fantasy is a very dangerous market, and Kate Elliott is navigating a very different road. Taking the similar paths to other authors (Martin, Jordan), she begins to layer on the multiple character viewpoints as her story gets more complicated. Unlike the first novel, this one begs you to go on with the series and hopes that the author has an arc which can be completed (unlike a certain other author).

This novel begins to knit characters closer together (Liath & Alain, Liath & Sanglant) while pulling others apart (Liath & Hanna, Hanna & Ivan). The king appears to be the capable leader in one moment, while showing weakness and uncertainty the next. The few problems I had are the events that seem to have no importance at this time (the Seven Sleepers) while being given enough weight that you know it will be important later. You just can't tell how.

4 out of 5 stars Captured by the Crown.......2006-03-25

I have two rules I try to follow in huge fantasy series.

1. When reading the first volume, don't put the book down in absolute bored disgust `til page 200.
2. Don't decide you're a fan of a series `til you've read the first two volumes.

I finished Prince of Dogs in 1.5 days. I can now say that I am a Kate Elliott fan because, as most of you know, Prince of Dogs is the second book in the Crown of Stars series, and I loved it.

Prince Sanglant is once again the influence for the book's title, though, some can argue that Alaine can also be a sort of "Prince of Dogs" as well. At any rate, Sanglant has been captured by the Eika king Bloodheart. Bloodheart keeps Sanglant chained with a pack of fearsome dogs to an altar close to his throne. Everyone thinks Sanglant is dead. No one save Sanglant seems to remember the magical aegis his mother set upon him. The Dogs torment and protect Sanglant, and, ultimately, change Sanglant forever.

Most of the kingdom morns Sanglant's loss, but none more despairingly than King Henry and Liath. Liath's sorrow makes her vulnerable, and, if it can be possible, more fearful than in King's Dragon. I do admit to getting a little frustrated with Liath, but, at the same time, I appreciated what the author did with her. Fear is a part of Liath's character, and, as much as we want our fantasy characters to grow, there are just some things people can't get passed. I've grown a lot in my life, but I'm still afraid of large crowds.

Hugh returns in this book. Both he and Liath spend most of their time in the King's progress. Liath's interactions with Hugh, while frustrating, have a ring of realism to them. I like how Kate Elliott obviously is all for women empowerment, but also isn't afraid to sometimes portray her female characters in a negative, and occasionally sexist, light.

And as for Hugh, Hugh is a wonderfully complicated and complex villain. In most fantasy books, the evil characters are irredeemably evil, crewel, and simple. Hugh is certainly irredeemably evil and crewel, but he definitely isn't simple. I think some authors forget that the devil has a honey tongue and a beautiful face; Kate Elliott makes no such mistake.

Alaine is tested by the Lady of Battles in this book. What exactly Alaine's purpose is and why he has strange visions remains a mystery, but we get more insight into why and how he can change the world around him. Alaine is an excellent character. He sees the harsh world around him and reacts to it in such an innocent way. I wouldn't call Alaine ignorant, though. He has an interesting strength and wisdom about him. Kate Elliott knows how to make faceted fascinating characters.

The number of characters and PoVs doesn't bother me. I'm a veteran of several huge and complicated series. A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin has over 1,000 characters in four books, and The Wheel of Time has over 1,700 over eleven. And that's just to name the two most popular series out there. Crown of Stars probably has over 1,000 characters, but it also has an incredibly intricate story. I do think some of the threads are difficult to keep track of, but this is my first read through. I don't expect to pick up everything the first time around.

The religious aspect of Crown of Stars is unforgivingly relentless. I like how Kate Elliott's world mirrors our middle ages in nearly every way. Our own past was directed by religion and blind faith, Crown of Stars is no different. In our day, people don't like reading, learning, understanding, respecting religion, but it's a necessity if you ever want to understand literature and our past. Most readers put down this series because it, quite frankly, is about religion, but I think setting aside a good story because it goes against a modern paradigm is a serious mistake.

The prose can be repetitive and choppy, but it's worth ignoring for the story.

I give this book 4 out of five.

3 out of 5 stars So So Sequel.......2006-03-24

Typical of all series, I hesitate to start one because quite often they fail to deliver the pizaz of the first.
This one did not disappoint. The characters that mesmerized us in the first book were overshadowed with new characters leaving unresolved scenarios unresolved.
For the life of me I do not understand a female writer continuing to cast a female lead in such a subserviant role. For goodness sakes, everyone in touch with Liath is impressed with her as a stand-up for yourself person, yet whenever she gets near Hugh she becomes a doormat. I know it's all in the hands of the writer but please continue to give Liath the tools she uses in her relationship with the rest of her life and allow her to nueter Hugh with a very dull blade soon. If not, I don,t know if I can wade my way through the remainder of this series.
The new characters of Anna and Mathiue are intriguing as long as Ms. Elliot allows Anna to remain and grow from there and not become the milqtoast she allowed Liath to become.

3 out of 5 stars A good sequel.......2004-03-26

In this book, I was even more excited to read it since the first one left still so much much unfinished explanations, understandable in a series, but they still weren't answered! I was so disapointed with Liath. She's spent now almost a year with a bow and arrow and a sword, and still hasn't learned how to use them properly. For all you people who loved Hugh he comes back, but the way they acted was just too similar to the first one. I started thinking who cares anymore? Just destroy him. Especially since Liath always got in the type of posistion that you were just waiting for big strong man to come save her, she can't save herself. It's even more intruiging as she tries to master her own powers and figure out what killed her father. Again Alain did slightly more important role, but still didn't cut it for me. Rosvita was a boring character who I just didn't downlike like at all. Sanglant was cool, but what was he expected to all locked up? So, nothing was done really with him until the conlusion. New characters are introduced in Mathias and Anna, who don't do anything important in this book, but have a definite foreshadowing effect of them doing something important later. They had way too many characters in this book, too confusing, and would go through all the other characters before coming back to the person who was doing something exciting. When Hugh comes back and Liath sees him, it takes them more than seventy pages to get back to that. It was very exciting and still worth the read, but all these characters are not needed to make a good book!

5 out of 5 stars epic story.......2004-01-09

Prince of dogs is a great epic story about four main characters that are struggling a through war stricken land that. In this book the author, Kate Elliott does a great job with keeping readers interested because they always wants to hear what will happen. Elliot also does a great job making it a readable book that could be really hard because of many different characters. The reader sees the world through the eyes of four main characters and one minor character. At some times Elliott has a tendency to stretch the book out and this makes it a little boring but it is important to learn about the characters and watch them meet and interact with each other.
This book the second book of the series, is the connection book of the series, Crown of Stars. With out the Prince of Dogs readers would not be able to have any other books of the series. Elliot readers have a view into a whole other would. She uses her knowledge of the medieval times to make this book so believable and realistic. Over all I enjoyed this book and I am still reading the book that continue the series.

As a mom of a pink princess obsessed 4yr. old, this book is right up her alley! The story is fun and well written. I love this Sassie character! The illustrations are bright and eye catching, such a fun and whimsical book that my daughter hasn't let out of her sight! (let alone, let her younger sister even touch!) We've even decided we're going to buy another copy to donate to her preschool so they can fall in love with it as well!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best children's book illustrations I have ever seen... BRAVO!!.......2006-10-19

I have been a fan of Dena's work for years. Sassafras's illustrations manage to capture the emotions of the spoiled pink poodle perfectly. The illustrations are colorful, whimsical, and utterly delightful. Some of the best children's book illustrations I have ever seen, and it is now my two children's absolutely favorite book.

5 out of 5 stars Sassie is fabulous.......2006-10-12

I absolutely LOVED Sassafrass. It perfectly captures in a comedic way how success can change and warp a personality, and how when a person (or a dog) starts to believe her own publicity, she can lose track of who she really is. Staying true to yourself and keeping your head on straight in good times and in bad is a great message for children and adults. And this tale is told with such a light touch--that it's like eating a chocolate souffle! Brava Sassie! You are adorable!

5 out of 5 stars Terrific Charmer.......2006-10-12

This is a must-read for your kids! They will be enthralled by the story, with characters you too will enjoy!

Book Description

Marie Antoinette was one of the most celebrated queens in history…but she was once a little girl, too. As told by her vain but devoted dog, Sebastian, here is the story of the young princess’s life—from her childhood in Austria, to the elaborate preparations leading to her marriage to Louis XVI; from her unhappy rise to power in turbulent times, to the birth of her own children. Lynn Cullen’s spirited text sheds light on a side of Marie Antoinette few have seen—that of a vulnerable young girl thrust into a role much bigger than she could have imagined. Stunning illustrations by Amy Young capture the grandeur of life in 18th century Versailles and the touching intimacy of a child’s lasting love for her pet.

I purchased this book for my 33 year-old daughter, who lives in another state with her little Pug, for several reasons. One; she has a Pug, two; she studied French when she was in High School, three; she's been to Paris and has a special thing for the Eiffel Tower, four; she collects special books regardless of age. She loved the book with it's beautiful colored illustrations and read it to her little Pug, Chloe who also loved it.

Book Description

Dogs and humans have been so closely linked for so many thousands of years, that some experts believe we may have evolved together. Whether or not this proves to be so, it is certainly true that, for better or worse, our interdependence cannot be untangled. On one level of existence we are meant to be together.

In this new collection Libby Hall once again delves into her vast archive to bring us more enchanting photographs of people and their dogs. Ranging in date from 1855 to 1940, and in format from cartes de visite and cabinet cards to studio portraits and the scruffiest of snapshots, Prince and Other Dogs II is a poignant testimony to the unchanging nature of the human-canine relationship. Each one of these photographs, whether funny or sad, odd or beautiful, demonstrates clearly the mutual feelings of love and loyalty timelessly displayed by both Man and Dog.

5 out of 5 stars Love and Friendship.......2002-11-17

Libby Hall's second volume of elderly photos of dogs and their humans is another winner. Hall, who has always lived with dogs, has a wonderful sense of a good photo, both in its composition and in its subject matter. These black and white photos are charming, sometimes funny, sometimes sad; they all capture the great love and friendship possible between canines and humans. With no captions, these photos tell stories on their own. I especially loved the series of photos of a human giving some sort of order to a dog (generally for a treat of some kind), while the dog watches and listens intently. This book would be a wonderful addition to anyone's dog and/or photo book library.

5 out of 5 stars Another Delightful Canine Collection.......2002-11-17

Prince and Other Dogs 2 is another tasteful labor of love from Libby Hall and should, as did P1, please cynophiles as well as lovers and collectors of antique photographs. An especially delightful feature of this latest volume is the pages upon pages of lovely Victorian and Edwardian children, preserved forever in dignified poses with their beloved pets. Moreover, as the owner of a spunky Jack Russell Terrier, I can once again report that Ms. Hall has given the JRT crowd another bounteous offering: by my rough count, P2's canine companions are roughly 25 percent JRTs, pure or in part. (Perhaps one of these is a long lost ancestor to my own - her sire, after all, was a Brit.)

P2 is a carefully produced companion volume of its predecessor, printed on the same high-quality paper and, as a duodecimo volume (c. 4.5" x 7"), fitting beautifully in the hand, with a nice heft that befits its quality manufacture. We keep both books out - near the First Folio facsimile - for friends to flip through. Everyone is quickly drawn to a favorite photo of dog or master.

P2 is bargain priced and just in time for the holidays. Buy in quantity!

5 out of 5 stars As wonderful and heartwarming as the first "Prince" book..........2002-11-07

The book is a collection of old photographs of dogs and their owners, no text. Looking through the photos makes me smile and reminds me of the dogs who have brought joy to my life over the years. These dogs must have also brought great joy to their owner's lives to have been included in these family photos. After all, these pictures were taken long before the days of disposable cameras and 1-hour photo developing. This book (and the first book "Prince and Others") would make a wonderful gift for any dog lover.(Note: both books are the perfect size for stocking stuffers)

    2 out of 5 stars There's Better Out There.......2007-06-30

Even though this book was cute to read I found it dragged, bland and boring. If you want a book that is for child of `potty training' age that is combine with `house breaking' the new puppy then might I suggest, "The Piddle and Piles Series: NOT IN THE HOUSE!" by Peyton Wolfe. It is absolutely awesome!!! The illustrations are fantastic, but the story just blows you away. (Especially for a children's book.) She combines the two together with story, illustrations and song. My two kids loved it! When I started to go through the potty training with my first child my husband and I thought it would be a great idea to get a puppy so that they could grow up together. We have tried my books, but should have bought this one only and saved a ton of money of not buying the rest. It is entertaining and helps our kids become a part of the training process of our family dog. The book help them understand that through pictures, song and story that they have responsibilities to take care of themselves, but to also take care of your pet.

So, to everybody - I wouldn't really buy this book, but if I was you - I WOULD BUY THE OTHER >>>>> "The Piddle and Piles Series: NOT IN THE HOUSE!" by Peyton Wolfe. It really helped me and my husband through it.

4 out of 5 stars Precious, whimsical story!.......2006-10-05

The Paper Princess loves a little girl named Lucy who is good to the princess and her dog. When they find out that there is to be a fiesta later in the day, they set out to do something nice for Lucy. As the princess and her dog fly on the wind in search of the perfect gift, they encounter many adventures and only by a stroke of good fortune are returned to their little girl. Though they weren't able to bring her much in the way of a physical gift, the princess and her dog gave Lucy what she loves best of all: their adventure story.

The Paper Princess Flies Again (with Her Dog) is a precious, whimsical story. The colorful and lively illustrations blend seamlessly with the text to produce a wonderful tale. I also enjoyed that this story is set outside of the American cultural norm. This is not the first of the Paper Princess tales, but that fact doesn't detract from the story. It only leaves me and my children hoping to pick up the other Paper Princess titles.

Armchair Interviews says: A delightful, entertaining read.

5 out of 5 stars The paper princess (and her dog) seek a present for their girl Lucy.......2006-01-06

Elisa Kleven explains on the back flap of "The Paper Princess Flies Again (with her Dog!)" than when she finished reading "The Paper Princess Finds Her way" to a group of children they asked her what would happened next to the princess and her new paper dog. She wrote and illustrated this third story in the series to find out and to "inspire children to draw their own paper characters and to give those characters stories and worlds." After reading this book I have little doubt that Kleven has succeeded in her objective.

This enchanting story is set in Mexico, where a girl named Lucy loves a paper princess who is not thicker than a leaf but who is full of stories. Although the paper princess has traveled far from the girl who first drew her and the boy who gave her wings, she now has a dress like the sky and a dog. Lucy agrees he is a good dog, but since he looks a little plain she decides to paint him a colorful jacket. The dog does not think he needs a jacket given his warm brown coat, but then Lucy explains he needs it because they are going to have a fiesta that night. In appreciation for the coming party, the princess and her dog decide they should find something nice for Lucy. But when they find a red paper flag that they imagine to be a flying carpet, it whisks them up into the air and off into a new adventure.

Traveling on a kite, a tumbleweed, and a sailboat, the paper princess and her dog end up in a surprising place to make Lucy's fiesta quite memorable. Kleven's artwork consists of beautiful multi-media collages that bring alive her characters. "The Paper Princess Flies Again (with her Dog!)" represents both the desire of children to venture out and discover the world as well as the joy of returning to a warm and loving home (especially when there is a new dress and a crown or a new jacket involved). Granted, in the 21st century the idea of making a paper princess or anything else you can think of seems rather quaint, but that is probably why this book is so charming. Kleven works in so many varied textures, shapes and colors into her artwork (look at all the details in the two-page spread of the desert and the ocean) that you cannot imagine her young readers not being inspired to follow suit.

    5 out of 5 stars I love this book!.......2005-10-31

This is the latest in the adventures of the paper princess and it's as wonderful as the other two. I love the character of the dog and how the princess' cheerful and brave optimism plays against his more timid nature. It's a great book to read aloud and my kids were totally taken in by the story and cheered at the ending. We also love the two earlier books and they've become favorites that we read over and over again (my two year old now "reads" them to himself). Each of the three books has a very distinctive plot so they don't suffer from being bland imitations of each other. It's a rare author who can take a character and expand her world as successfully as Elisa Kleven does. We can't wait for the princess' next adventure!

5 out of 5 stars Third Grade girl.......2005-09-17

I like all Elisa's Kleven's books. They are great stories. I really like this one because there is a dog in it.

    Book Description

This enchanting Scottish-dog story retells in word and picture a true episode from Bonnie Prince Charley's perilous flight through the Highlands in 1746. As the redcoat hunt closes in on his remote island cave, Prince Charley (a dashing Scottish deerhound) yields himself up to his one slender hope for deliverance - a canny wee slip of a Skye terrier named Flora McDonald. Armed only with her courage, intelligence, and uncanny gift of musical communication with wild animals, Flora must outface the vanities of the Prince, the terrors of the deep, the muskets of the king, and the pitfalls of the drawing room to smuggle her royal protege "Over the Sea to Skye". Across a sombre warp of history, illustrator Rob Brown and author Robert Hutchinson have magically woven a bright woof of imagination.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful, original re-telling of Scottish lore!.......1997-11-20

The animals around the misty Isles of Scotland get to tell this tale of adventure as escape of Bonnie Prince Charley through the Highlands in 1746. He's now a Scottish deerhound, beholding to Skye terrier Fora MacDonald. Robert Hutchinson and Rob Brown join forces to tell and illustrate the story beautifully. I especially liked the way Flora communicates with "free" animals who bravely come to her aid. Such a talented lady--she speaks otter, owl, porpoise, marten, and deer! A lovely, lyrical journey sure to delight parents and children alike.
