Book Description
More than a half-century ago the Canadian Wildlife Service assigned the naturalist Farley Mowat to investigate why wolves were killing arctic caribou. Mowat's account of the summer he lived in the frozen tundra alone-studying the wolf population and developing a deep affection for the wolves (who were of no threat to caribou or man) and for a friendly Inuit tribe known as the Ihalmiut ("People of the Deer")-is a work that has become cherished by generations of readers, an indelible record of the myths and magic of wild wolves.

Slapstick Adventure.......2007-09-18
This classic defense of wolves never strays into preaching; it makes its points through slapstick adventure. A hapless young biologist named Farley Mowat gets shipped off into the bush by the Canadian government and instructed to conduct meticulous observations of wolves. He is to disembowel a lot of wolves and prove that the ravening beasts are decimating the caribou. Instead, the wolves disprove his assumptions at every turn. He becomes an ardent fan of their family life, sense of humor, restraint, and good nature. He decides to skip the disemboweling. An Eskimo named Ootek helps to illuminate wolf nature and plays the wise straight red man to Mowat's buffoon. Mowat hides under his canoe from wolves that turn out to be huskies; he ogles a she-wolf he has christened Angeline. Some of his antics could come right out of a Chaplin movie. Perhaps Chaplin should have done a movie in the far north not about Gold Rush prospectors who eat shoes, but about wildlife biologists who eat creamed mice to test their nutritional value. In one scene, Mowat jumps up naked from sunbathing to run off after a pack of wolves in hopes of observing a caribou hunt. When the wolves ignore the caribou, Mowat runs at the pack, swearing, in frustration. An Eskimo lad tells his mother, who never speaks to the mad white nudist again.
This nature writing does not sing. It is not meant to. When Mowat mentions the tundra plains around him, he calls them dreary. Nor does he praise the wolves' appearance much. What's more, enough experts have questioned the veracity of his observations that Barry Lopez labels Never Cry Wolf a "fictionalized account" in his book Of Wolves and Men. Yet Lopez still recommends Never Cry Wolf as an introduction to the species. The truth is that the book doesn't need beauty or literal truth to draw us closer to nature. Through Mowat's stories, we come to share his affinity for wolves, and we understand the hunger for connection that propels his scientific curiosity.
Never Cry Wolf .......2007-09-09
Very interesting read about the study of wolves. Farley is also a very amuzing writer which makes the subject matter easier to read. If you are a Wildlife lover, this is a must read.
A Must Read for Wolf Lovers.......2007-04-13
I am blessed to be the "Mom" of 2 wolf mix rescues and am a volunteer at a wolf preserve. This book accurately describes his experiences with wolves in a humorous yet realistic way. The author honestly describes the problems with the human factor in the wolf world through his adventures as a biologist working for the government of Canada.
Never Cry Wolf.......2007-01-20
I did not see the condition of the book as it was a gift for my nephew. I have read several of Farley's books and loved them. I have not read this one his most recognized title as I wantd to read those I had never heard about or saw the movie. I can only trust that it is great, as are his other books that were not made into movies.
Should be read by every person alive........2007-01-11
This book is breathtaking in its scope and majesty... Or perhaps that is just the wolves the author is describing. Whoever has any doubts at all about the wolves should be blown away by this gripping and revealing book.
Do not, I repeat DO NOT mistake this book for fiction. It is nonfiction, and though many bookstores and libraries mistake it for fiction, it is pure, cold, truth.
Read it. Period.

Attorney Laurel Chandler did not come back to Bayou Breaux to seek justice. That once-burning obsession had destroyed her credibility, her career, her marriage—and nearly her sanity. A Very Annoying Heroine.......2007-08-07
This was my first book by this author and I was very disappointed. While she does get a A++ for her research of the locale and Cajun dialect, I found the heroine , Laurel Chandler to be very annoying. If she was going to rehash her past experience as a DA and the case that lead to her downfall one more time I was ready to put the book in the trash. I wanted to scream, Get Over It and Move on! The rest of the characters , including Jack (who I failed to find appealing or sexy) were fair to midland. I found myself intrigued with what the handsome DA Steven was wearing. His wardrobe sounded straight from GQ. So much for the story!
Tami, Tami, Tami...sigh.......2007-05-01
I have read a number of books by Tami Hoag and have pretty much enjoyed them all. Some I have enjoyed more than others, but generally, it is pretty safe to pick up one of her books and expect a good work with interesting characters and heroes and heroines you might actually care about. Laurel and Jack are difficult to care about. Since when are charm and obnoxious the same thing? Jack (es-corporate lawyer - what a hoot) and Laurel (Wallowing in self pity and self martyrdom-Get over it! Watch Law & Order. Even Jack McCoy loses a case now and then) Savannah? Let us not go there. She was so completely unlikable...I think the only mystery is why someone hadn't killed her earlier. I kept going in this book only because of Hoag's other works. This one was the earliest work by her that I have read. You know what this means, right? This is one of her Prior Bad Acts. Sorry. Anyway, this is not her best work. Had this been the first Tami Hoag book I had read, I would have not tried another. Fortunately it was not the first for me.
Not my favorite Hoag book.......2007-03-12
Cry Wolf involves the unlikely relationship between two characters because of their "baggage." This wasn't my favorite Hoag book because I found the lead characters hard to really like. Now there have been other books with bad boys that slowly draw you in, but in this one, Jack is different. Laurel was okay and Savannah was a great character that I could visualize as well as many of the other lesser characters. Trademark Hoag style threads itself throughout the book which makes it worth finishing, but to recommend a Hoag book, this would not be it.
Engrossing Southern romantic thriller.......2006-08-03
Cry Wolf is the first Tami Hoag book I've ever read. The story takes place in the wonderfully evocative setting of small-town Louisiana. Attorney Laurel Chandler returns home to lick her wounds after her divorce and the loss of a case involving abused children which led to her being dubbed the prosecutor who cried wolf. She moves in with her aunt and man-loving sister Savannah and meets Jack, best-selling horror writer and all-round cad. The story starts slowly focusing on Jack and Laurel's budding romance, including an incident where Jack, who's a little too fond of his bourbon and a manslut, almost crashes a car nearly killing both of them. Laurel seems a little too fond of whining and playing the victim.
Fortunately the pace speeds up after tragedy strikes close to home and Jack and Laura team up to bring the murderer to justice. A suspenseful ending and a plethora of interesting characters make up for the deficiencies of the main characters.
not my favourite.......2006-07-20
it was a slow start to this book, i keep expecting hoag to grab my attention from the first sentence like her other books but it did not happened here...
the mystery part came late in this book and when it came, i was excited..here was laurel trying to get a fresh start but was drawn into the murder case involving women who "deserved to die because they slept around" which aso involved her sister..
the plot was interesting, the killer was playing a game with her, letting know who he was and when laurel knew who it was, she could not do anything not only due to lack of evidence but also lack of credibility as she was previously labelled as "the lawyer who cried wolf"
i was really excited to know how laurel's going to pull it off but it was dissapointing on how it all ends...i expected more from hoag...
it could've been better

Love Story of Gambit and Rogue.......2007-01-14
Not my favorite of all the archs in Ultimate X-Men but its nice to have. The story mainly revolves around a reintroduced Gambit who is now under the employment of mutants working the corporate world. His mission to retrieve Rogue leads to conflict between the X-Men and other parties.
One moment.......2006-12-06
It has one really cool part where Gambit fights Wolveriene to a standstill. First because gambit kicks wolveriene's knee backwards, because tendons arn't bone, and second Gambit's abilities alows him to charge wolveriene's skeleton and cause him to explode. This part is far too brief.
I did not even know of these twin villians in regular 616 marvel, and they failed to impress me here.
Ultimate X-Men hits double digits.......2006-03-14
Well, this graphic novel is one of the better Ultimate X-Men I have read. This volume of Ultimate X-Men can only make one laugh and cry. A definite buy for any X-Men fan (long with the previous 9!). It's quite amazing how only 4 issues (Ultimate X-Men #50-53) can make one feel like days have passed after reading it.
Where are the X-Men?.......2005-08-25
Slightly better than Brian K.Vaughan's previous sotry arc, "The Tempest", but it seems no one at Marvel has informed him that he is writing about the X-Men...
Its odd that Vaughan views Sinister as a "villian who never quite worked" and turned him in to the worst thing to happen in the Ultimate X-Men thus far, but retained virtually every aspect of such mega-hit fan favorites like the Fenris twins (note the sarcasm).
Rogue and Gambit take center stage at the great expense of hardly having the rest of the X-Men appear at all, aside from a shot out of left field involving Storm and Wolverine kissing... some build-up would have been helpful. As for Gambit and Rogue, they are so dull there is no way Vaughan could have done this by mistake. The X-Men are pretty much just there, as if the brass at Marvel forced a miminum requirement for their apperances much to Vaughan's contempt.
The Fenris twins are the only redeeming aspect to the book, not so much in how interesting they are, but it how it breaks Vaughan's trend of taking perfectly good X-Men villians and stripping them of any qualities that are interesting, inspired, creative and just plain cool while poviding no interesting "Ultimate Universe twist" what-so-ever. Although the Ultimate Fenris is almost identical to the main-stream Marvel one, the only real difference being they might be siblings, they might be married, they might be both...
The big general grand story..........2005-08-22
... is going nowhere to my opinion: the only thing to see is the artwork, which is great. Maybe it's because i'm not used to the changes(especially that Dazzler look, when i expected something of a "Lavigne" look). Still the general story is 'too many things happening in too little time, and everybody running around, each to his/her work'
Dazzler said: "Yeah, team"... But where's the team?

The Pack: Cry Of the Wolf, bk 6.......2007-09-05
This was another great read for me, i have most of them, that i got off of amazon of course, what can i say, paranormals are my thing, especially the shiftshapers. I loved this book
could really state 1 star.......2007-08-06
Do not want to be cruel to an author, but this book was a waste of time. I did read it all, hoping against hope for something to grab my interest. Nothing did. No build up to a climactic scene, no real character development, I have nothing positive to say whatsoever. Characters thrown together to make a scene, with no real purpose. I am an avid reader or paranormal romance, and this was the second worst book I have ever encountered.
She is a broken shape shifter on the run for her life........2007-04-27
She was the prosecution's chief witness against her ex-husband's drug cartel. She is now on the run for her life. Leo has guys everywhere, coast-to-coast. She has changed her name to Jewel Smith, colored her hair, left all credit cards behind, and tossed away her cell phone. She can live without any of it. However, she cannot survive much longer without shifting into her wolf form. Problem is that Leo did something to her; making her unable to shape shift.
Colton Reynolds lost his daughter two years ago because of drugs. When he learns who Jewel really is, Colton offers his help. In fact, he insists she needs him after someone cut the break lines on her car. Colton knows Jewel is ready to run again, but Leo would only pursue her.
Jewel wants desperately to trust Colton. Yet Jewel knows she has bad judgement when it comes to men. Besides, even if Jewel told Colton the truth about what she is, he would never believe her.
*** I found this to be a pretty good read for a road trip. I believe it would be best if read in the mountains, surrounded by woods, or at the beach, since the setting is around a lake. Nothing original within these pages. Nothing fascinating either. But no matter where you read it, you will be entertained as you take a walk on the wild side. ***

Jewel Smith has two deadly secrets. Hiding in a small town in Texas, she doesn't want anyone to recognize her as the ex-wife of Leo Licciardoni as his high profile legal case was news nationwide particulary when he vowed to kill her. Even more importantly, however, Jewel has to keep her identity as a shifter secret because no humans can know of her ability to change into a wolf. Jewel has another problem on her hands as she is currently unable to shift and if she doesn't shift soon, she will die. Reporter Colton Reynolds wants to help Jewel but will her secrets destroy their growing attraction for one another?
CRY OF THE WOLF is a superb foray into the world of the shifter. Karen Whiddon's twist involving a werewolf who can't shift is an interesting one and provides a different approach to the overall genre. Jewel's struggle with her inability to change adds depth to her character as she goes from acting like a victim to a survivor.
Karen Whiddon addresses a very powerful issue in CRY OF THE WOLF as she focuses on battered women. Leo has tried to shatter Jewel's spirit, just as he repeatedly broke her body. Jewel's trust in men is at a low point when she meets Colton, but luckily Colton is a very special man. The emotional impact of CRY OF THE WOLF is extremely potent and it is encouraging to see such a talented writer dare to address such a touchy subject as domestic violence.
CRY OF THE WOLF is spectacular! Karen Whiddon is quickly developing a reputation as a writer to keep an eye on in the paranormal genre. CRY OF THE WOLF is yet more proof that Karen Whiddon should be on any paranormal lover's auto-buy list.

excellent werewolf romance .......2006-12-30
Jewel Smith AKA Julie Licciardon is on the run from her husband Leo, a drug lord, who tortured her and gave her something that prevented her from turning into a wolf. Unless she can change she will die; if Leo escapes from prison or one of his minions finds her she will die regardless.
When she tries and fails to change, Jewel collapses. Reporter Colton Reynolds finds her unconscious and revives her. When he realizes who she is he admires because she turned in Leo; his former wife killed their daughter because she was dealing drugs. Jewel and Colton are attracted to one another, but she fears revealing to him she is a werewolf while he needs to uncover the secret she hides from him. After two failed attempts to kill her, he vows to keep her safe even if he dies doing so.
Karen Whiddon provides werewolf romance fans with an enthralling paranormal thriller that is filled with action and intrigue especially with enemies trying to eliminate the two protagonists. Readers will sympathize with Jewel for what she has put up with from a sadistic monster while hoping she can transform into a werewolf. The author cleverly handles spousal abuse inside an exhilarating tale.

The year is 1935, shortly before World War II. The "Wolf of Rome", Italy's army under Mussolini, is poised to invade Ethiopia, whose army is not only ill-equipped, but also severely outnumbered. Desperate to save his troubled land, Emperor Haile Selassie enlists American Jake Barton and Englishman Gareth Swales, two risk-takers who both share a taste for danger and the thrill of adventure. The mission seems simple: Deliver four ancient refurbished armored cars and Vicky Camberwell, an American journalist, in exchange for a hefty weight of gold. But soon Jake and Gareth realize that this is just the beginning of a long, harrowing journey that will take them from the sea to the scorching deserts of Africa to the peaks of its treacherous mountains, where a dramatic struggle to stay alive awaits them...
Customer Reviews:
a vile slanderous mockery of all Ethiopians.......2007-07-10
First of all, I am not Ethiopian, and therefore have no ax to grind. Secondly, I was impressed by Wilber Smith's vivid writing talent. That said, I'll even throw in the fact that I was thoroughly enjoying the book, right up until page 143. At that page, Smith would have us to believe that Sara, a 'virtuous' Ethiopian maiden of the era, 1935, or just before WWII, thinks it proper to 'make love with twenty men before I marry Gregorius', her fiancee. 'Why twenty?' asks Vicky, the book's leading female character; 'Why not twenty-three or twenty-six?' 'Oh no,' said Sara primly, 'I would not want people to think me a loose woman!' But Wilber Smith would have us to believe, from this and succeeding pages, that all Ethiopians are expressly the very image of Sara's 'prim' behavior, the absolute utmost in moral debauchery, and that Sara and her kin think nothing of beating back over-friendly fellow Ethiopian welcoming committees with whips and rifle butts, trompling a woman carrying a child under a camel's hooves, and eating huge raw strips of fresh red-dripping bloody meat with their bare teeth, among other 'cultural norms', all served up with such smooth narrative skill that the average reader, bedazzled by Smith's exceptional writing talent, may end up with the notion that real-life Ethiopians are little better than cannibals, but something less than Neanderthal. I know a 'hatchet job' when I see one, and I am appalled at Smith's not-so-obvious hidden agenda to leave the world with such a dastardly impression of the fair land of Ethiopia as this. The book, presented and extolled as a masterpiece, is a raw smear job under the thin veneer of the loudly acclaimed 'Grand Master', as vile a piece of cheap pulp filth as I have ever had the misfortune to lay eyes on, and I have given it the one-star it deserves without the least misgiving or hesitation. If this is a taste of what Wilber Smith has to offer with his '80 million copies sold', I'll leave his legacy to the braying mob and continue the search for quality reading material elsewhere, thank you very much.
Great African Adventure.......2007-05-07
I have no hesitation in giving this African adventure five stars! An American adventurer in Ethiopia in the late 1930s guides a caravan of armoured cars into the interior to escape the advancing Italians. Highly recommended!
Also highly recommended is "Sands of the Kalahari," by William Mulvilhill.
The Sands of Kalahari
Could it be any better?.......2003-07-30
I have been reading this man's books since I was 14. I have never read one that wasn't excellent but two are far above the rest, this one and Hungry as the Sea. This book has something for everyone. The story is compelling, gripping, and stands the test of time. Anyone reading this now will still want to know how the people in Africa are doing today. Beware, if you read this book you will become hooked on this man's writing, I did and 24 years later I can't wait for each new one he writes.
Excellent Adventure! What were the Italians thinking?.......2002-09-13
This is another great book from a fine author. The setting is 1935 Ethiopia. Ethiopia is a landlocked country. The League of Nations has imposed a weapons import ban on all African countries. The Italians don't have to deal with this ban because they control one of the countries. That's the political situation.
The Italians are on a rampage in Africa to gobble up as many countries as possible. They have been doing a massive military buildup along the Ethiopian border. The Ethiopians know what is about to happen. They enlist the aid of two "men of the world" to buy and deliver four ancient armored cars and a variety of other weapons.
Throw into this mix an American reporter that happens to be a beautiful woman, an ancient Ethiopian cheiftan who wants to fight battles the traditional way, an Italian aristocrat that has purchased his commission and you have a good mix to create a story from.
This is a long book, but interesting. The chapters are long. The story is very entertaining and at times even humorous. Wilber Smith has done an excellent job of capturing this era in time. The details of the scenery and the people are right on.
If you are an Italian, you probably will not enjoy they way that Smith has stereotyped them. But, it is believable...
So Dated It Screams "1980's"!.......2002-08-19
I recently read Cry Wolf and found the story-line, the tone and the characters' attitudes so dated I can find nothing positive to say about the book, or for that matter the 1980's.

Cry Wolf (Modesty Blaise graphic novel).......2007-01-10
Have been out of town, and haven't had a chance to read it yet. But I have almost everything Peter O-Donnell has written -- even the books he wrote under a pseudonym and not about Modesty. But I'll buy and read ANYTHING O'Donnell has written!

A dissenting view.......2007-10-07
I'll be the "designated" dissenting view here amongst all of these positive reviewers. This was not my cup of tea. That assuredly has alot to do with my estimation of this book. Above and beyond the rather off-the-wall mysticism and somewhat pseudo-native American spirituality, the editing is horrible. Misspelt words everywhere! I don't care how bad a book is in terms of its content, at least the author and publisher can check the spelling for god's sake! To me, that kind of error says alot about the author and the lack of professionalism in general. I just thought his viewpoint was hokey.
I'm glad I stumbled on this one.......2006-07-27
What a fascinating, wonderful book. It is thought provoking and stimulating reading. As a Christian theologian, i found it extremely wonderful and helpful reading.

The most soul searching satsifying book. For a great mentor and teacher for those who will listen. Time ......this is to help prepare for the Great Comings............. I respect and thank him for the great insight
last Cry: native American Prophecies Tales of the End Times.......2000-04-20
I found this book to be incredibly insightful and informitive based completely in a shamanic light. Even those that do not follow this path can gather a lot of meaning from this book in regards to this: We are all from the same place...this earth. All fear and hate based on skin color, orientation, gender, species, etc...is completely futile. If people as a whole would understand themselves, being honest with themselves...I doubt that we as a whole would have any more hate and fear.
Powerful and filled with insight into our own beginnings........1999-01-06
This book resonated with the essence of my very being. It brings remembrance of our beginnings on this planet and in this dimension if one can accept it. It seems as though Robert Ghostwolf has hurried to get the information out and therefore, at times I did not have a full comprehension of the symbols such as the colored serpents. I have only a bit of native American blood and know only a little about the ancient religious beliefs of the people. Call me a crazy if you wish, but the book (for the most part) rang true to the depths of my being, and why not? Is it more outrageous than the stories in the Holy Bible from which I also draw great comfort and truth?

Mages,Monsters and More.......2006-05-22
The book Cry of the Wolf was an awesome book. It has dragons, wolves and griffins, some of my favorite mythical creatures. My favorite character is Adriane. Adriane is about 14; she has two friends' that are total opposites. My favorite part is when she battles the manticore.
Cry of the Wolf is about a girl named Adriane who lets her bonded animal Stormbringer (bonded animal is an animal that balances their magic) go into the magical world Aldenmore with wolves. Adriane gets worried and goes after her. While she looks for her she makes friends with a boy named Zach and gets a dragon for a bonded animal.
The dark sorceress captures her. While she's in the dungeon she finds another mistwolf. With the help of the other animals in the dungeon she gets out. When she gets out she has to battle the manticore . After that Stormbringer comes back with the rest of the pack. So Adriane finds her bonded animal and goes back to earth.
Excellent to the magical series!.......2006-04-23
Adrianne and Storm share a bond unlike any other. Storm thinks that she is the last mistwolf living since she has no membory of the pack and Adrianne thinks that she has some blood of a mistwolf but not sure yet... until the mistwolf pack arrive and Storm sadly joins. Adrianne cannot since shes not a mistwolf and the leader of the pack believes that humans always bring destruction. When they leave that does not stop Adrianne from finding Storm. With the help of her friends the d flies make a portal though Adrianne gets sucked in to the world of Aldenmore. The action begins as the warrior fights monsters and meets this rock and this boy named Zach. Eventually Adrianne finds Storm and the pack accepts as Adrianne their wolf sister so shes part of the pack!
I think I like Adrainne now!.......2005-11-12
Finally Adrianne is on action. In the book there is alot of action and suspence though one part is kinda sad. Adrianne and her boned animal Storm hav a close bond when these other mistwolves come and Storm decides to join with the pack leaving Adrianne torn. The warrior then goes on a journey to find Storm. She then is on Aldenmore and meets with this one boy named Zach(human) and this strange rock. Soon they become friends and Adrianne soon learns about his past. Adrianne later figures out that the rock is not really what it seems. So far this is my faverite book in the series and I think everyone will love it.
awesome for all ages.......2005-10-12
This book is prehaps my favorite out of all of the books. Adriane is willful and strong. When she is pulled into Aldenmore, even if she feels like she can't go on, she keeps her head high and moves forward. The mistwolves are a major part of the entire series and in this book, they are shown in a new light, slightly harsh and sometimes cruel, but always for the safety and wellfare of the pack. I would recomend this book to anyone who is willing to sit down and read a fantasy story about loyalty, friendship and the never ending bond that is love.
fantastic!.......2005-08-15
I really like how this one is mostly about Adriane and her friendship with Stormbringer. I also love how she meets alot of other magical creatures-=some friends, and some foes. Her experieance on Aldenmor really helped her come out of her shell.

Book Description
Farley Mowat's youth was charmed and hilarious, and unbelievably free in its access to unspoiled nature through bird-banding expeditions and overnight outings in the dead of winter. The author writes of sleeping in haystacks for survival, and other adventures, with equal shares of Booth Tarkington and Jack London. He also brings back Mutt, the famous hero-dog of his classic THE DOG WHO WOULDN'T BE, and his pet owl Wol, hero of OWLS IN THE FAMILY. The tale of an outrageous and clever boy, BORN NAKED takes its place as the foundation of the Farley Mowat canon.
Customer Reviews:
A Love Song to Nature and Life.......2005-09-09
If you've read Farley Mowat, you know him as a passionate defender of the beautiful "Others" with whom we share our planet. This book is a joy-filled description of his early life and formation as a nature-lover. We hear of the wild beauty of Canada, the Quixotic plans his father devised and his mother endured, and the daring adventures which will become the foundation for his later writings. Although a light-hearted story overall, Farley does not avoid the difficult times, including a powerful depiction of the effect of the Depression on the Canadian provinces. It is a love song to the strength of character and perseverence of our northern cousins, as well.
When the book ends, the reader, like the writer, wonders if there will ever be such a wonderful time again. Sheer delight.
Mowat is a true Canadian gem.......2004-08-20
I enjoy all of Mowat's books, but this one is particularly good. His style is conversational, his humor is biting. Clearly a man who does not suffer a fool lightly. Farley Mowat is a national gem. Buy the book...
Born Naked is one of the most amazing books around........1999-01-31
Canadian author Farley Mowat's Born Naked is a must-read glimpse into the author's much self-written about life. It's hilarious, it's poignant and a must for any Mowat fan.
If Only My Childhood Was Like His...........1997-06-25
I've been a big fan of Farley Mowat's literary style since I first read Never Cry Wolf back in junior high school. Even as a 9th grade Earth Science teacher, I show the silver screen adaptation of this great novel. Born Naked, however, is of different 'stuff' than Never Cry Wolf. Here is a book written in a light, easy-to-read fashion that highlights his early years in this great world. We, the readers, are along for the ride when he travels to the Arctic on a research mission with his uncle, or when he makes his daily rounds to inspect the nests of local birds in Saskatchewan. This book is written in a truly entrancing style. I had a very difficult time putting it down. There are some questionable portions in it dealing with his discovery of his own sexuality, but they are far outweighed by the sense of awe and discovery he felt as a youngster. I would heartily recommend this book to anyone that enjoyed Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, or anyone that wants to experience the childhood they only dreamed about
