Nancy Drew #11 The Clue of the Broken Locket.......2007-03-04
I would highly recommend this book for any Nancy Drew book collection.
It all starts when Nancy sees a key near her place at breakfast. Mystery & Suspense build as she investigates the double of Cecily Curtis, a phantom launch that was drowned years ago, & the mysterious noise coming from the location of Pudding Stone Lodge. How Nancy Drew solves a family mystery involving a Iron Bird & kills a counterfeit operation will keep the reader in suspense from beginning to end!
A Great Mystery.......2007-01-17
I am doing my book report on the book The Clue of the Broken Locket. This book is written by Carolyn Keene. This book is a fiction book which means it is not real.
In this book the main character is Nancy Drew, a young detective who has solved many mysteries, and now is going a long way from home. She and her two best friends, Bess and George, are heading down to a lake house the mystery of why a man who has been taking care of a lake house has suddenly gone away and claims to have seen a ghost ship on the lake. In this book they overcome multiple dangers and each one takes them either closer or farther away from solving the mystery.
I really enjoyed this book because it keeps you in suspense and makes you want to read on to the next chapter! I would recommend this book to pretty much anyone who loves a great mystery and especially people who love Nancy Drew books.

great mechanical techniques.......2007-02-19
Tim McCreight has created a very nice volume of work in the field of fine jewelry making and metalsmith technique and this book fills yet another niche in that genre. This book serves to catalogue the most useful techniques for creating boxes and lockets including the various and sundry mechanical features associated with them.
Instructions for techniques are clear but brief, assuming the reader has basic skills. Instructions include clear photos and illustrations. Topics include creating box forms of many types. McCreight imparts his tips for achieving foolproof square angles and lids that fit perfectly. Hinges- from basic to hidden & stand-off styles; Catches- basic to spring catches: and spring-close hinges are all explained. There is emphasis placed on attention to quality and doing it right the first time.
Overall there is a wealth of information I have not found in other books in the genre, and I find (as a novice metalsmith) the information to be exciting and empowering. Perhaps an experienced jeweler may find shortcomings- but as a hobbyist with a love of boxes and lockets, I will be putting Mr. McCreight's book through its courses!
The gallery work used to illustrate concepts could have been documented better (to include specific techniques used), but is generally great inspiration and thought provoking.
Book Description

Michael faces his own challenges when he loses his greatest love, Faye. When Michael is falsely accused of abusing one of the Arcadia's residents, he learns important lessons about faith and forgiveness from Ester -- and her gift to him of a locket, once symbolic of one person's missed opportuninites, becomes another's second chance.
Richard Paul Evans, author of the beloved #1 bestselling classic The Christmas Box, begins a wonderful new series with this stunning New York Times bestseller -- a bittersweet reminder of life's most precious gifts....
Customer Reviews:
Excellent story!.......2007-10-09
This was an excellent book! It wasn't just a typical romance, instead, it focused on what comes after falling in love. Devotion, kindness, and respect were themes in this novel. It was well-written, and kept my attention until the end.
IT'S WHAT WE GIVE THAT HEALS US.......2007-10-03
With The Locket, Richard Paul Evans proves once again that when it comes to feel good, sentimental stories that tug at your heartstrings, he has no equal. As with his previous books The Christmas Box and The Letter, he utilizes his unique blend of fiction and inspirational writing to convey valuable messages of love, faith, forgiveness and redemption. His words take us on an emotional journey that leaves us reaching for the kleenex box as well as motivated to incorporate these precepts into our daily lives.
After the death of his mother, Michael Keddington takes a job at the Arcadia nursing home, where he meets parient Esther Huish, a woman who is instrumental in teaching Michael many valuable life lessons concerning forgiveness, overcoming insecurities, second chances and never putting things off until tomorrow.
The Locket of the title is Esthers gift to Michael. It serves as a symbol of the missed opportunities in her life and for Michael represents an opportunity to overcome a myriad of obstacles and begin his life anew.
This warm and beautiful story should kindle the flame of hope that burns in each of us. 4 1/2 stars
Highly recommended........2007-07-14
The old lady is one of the strongest female characters in modern literature. Evans is a very capable writer.
The locket.......2007-06-02
Simplistic writing, one dimensional characters, predictable plot. Easy read if you want something you can read on a three hour plane trip and throw away when you're done. Not for the discerning reader.
Wonderful, Endearing Book.......2006-09-12
I absolutely loved this book. I loved Michael. I loved the person he was, the way he took care of his mother, and his romantic relationship with Faye. I also loved Esther, but her situation was so sad. I kept asking her "Why did you allow that to happen?" But she was determined that the same thing did not happen to Michael and Faye. This book is touching and sentimental. One of Richard Paul's best books.

Book Description
With over 4.1 million copies in print, Elizabeth Koda-Callan's Magic Charm Books is the little series that could. Now, The Magic Locket takes a dramatic new turn with a fresh redesign featuring a new cover and an irresistible 5" x 6 1³2" trim size--a smaller book for smaller hands, and the perfect stocking stuffer. The look is contemporary, yet as classic as the story inside, with its ageless message of "Good things happen when you believe in yourself." And, of course, nestled inside the cover is a charm on a matching gold or silver chain.
Customer Reviews:
Magic Locket.......2006-12-20
I used to love this book when i was younger. I also liked the others in the series. I would never get sick of them and they have always stayed as one of my favorites.
The Magic Locket.......2003-10-03
The Magic Locket is about a little girl who could never do anything right. She tried so hard for things to go the right way, but it seemed that everything she did went wrong. Until one day when her Aunt Emma gave her a golden shiny locket and had told the little girl that it was magical! So every since the little girl wore the locket things went right! That's because she believed in herself when she was wearing the locket. This story is one of my favorite children's book just because it reminds me of me because whenever I try and do something it turns out to be wrong. I think this book would be good for children ages 4 and up because it teaches a lesson that everyone should live by. It teaches you that if you want some things you have to believe in yourself first before you do anything.
what a cute book.......2003-09-01
Elizabeth Koda-Callan is a wounderful writer. She puts lots of love in this book and is a Fantastic writer.THis book is a bout a little girl who can't do anything write and gets very descouraged. For exsample she can't brush her teeth, get dressed,do math, feed her doll's or help with groceries. But when her Anunt Emma comes gives her a locket and tells her some encourageing words and you have to read what happends.
Kindergarten to Yale.......2003-04-06
...This book is so cute and touching, and not only is it a book, it comes with a locket, so it's like two prizes in one. I highly recommend this for people (especially women) of all ages.
Good Book.......2003-03-14
This story is about a girl that can never do anything right {Like putting on her clothes, brushing her teeth, and doing her math problems for example}. Then one day her Great Aunt comes to visit and she gives her a golden locket that once belonged to her mother. Her Aunt tells her that when she wears the locket, she can do whatever it is she wants, but only if she believes she can. She wondered what was inside of this locket that could have the power to do this. To find out what it was that helped this little girl do the things that she one day thought she couldn't do, read the book.
Having two little sisters myself, I think this is a good book for children to read {or have read to them}. This book shows that you have the power to accomplish anything as long as you just believe in yourself and what you are doing. I believe that is a good lesson for kids today to learn, so read the book today!
Book Description
This book is a follow-up to the highly successful "Jewelry Fundamentals of Metalsmithing" and has the same high quality photos and practical information. In addition to featuring scores of exciting boxes by contemporary designers from around the world, the book describes dozens of hinges, catches and construction techniques in practical detail. Intended for intermediate metalsmiths, this book will not only teach you how to make that special hinge, but get you excited about what to do with it.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent technical content.......2007-01-12
Excellent instructions, good photos, and even new ideas. Inspirational. This one goes beyond the basics that McCreight is so good with. One of his better books and they are all good.
Take your jewellery making to a higher level .......2007-01-07
Moving on from Jewelry: Fundamentals of Metalsmithing, McCreight has produced an excellent reference book for the metalsmith. Certainly not intended for a beginner, this book is inspirational in the examples shown, beautiful photography, clear consice instructions and more than adequate step by step photographs of some of the techniques. This is more about techniques used than a project based book. Even if you are a beginner, the photographs/gallery alone are worth buying this book for so that you can aspire to create pieces on a par with some of the artists represented in this book. I will never look at a box or locket in the same way.
Another great reference by McCreight.......2006-02-21
I found the section on hinges to be worth the price of the book, and another section on catches is almost as good. Many other topics are covered as well. The color photos illustrate what can be done with the techniques and materials being discussed. A wide range of styles is portrayed, and not everyone would find all of them to be attractive, but that really does not matter. You can create something in your own style using the techniques described. This is a reference work, but I also consider this an instructional book with a number of projects anyone can pursue if he or she owns the basic tools for metalworking.
Another Excellent McCreight Instructional Book.......2005-08-16
After having enjoyed his "Jewelry: Fundamentals of Metalsmithing", I decided I definitely wanted to purchase Tim McCreight's book on boxes and lockets. I had no doubt that this book would be as informational and interesting as the previous book, and I was not wrong. This well-written book excels not only in its specialized instruction in hinges and catch mechanisms, but also in its foundation of basic and intermediate metalsmithing. In addition, the wealth of color photographs of works by many other artists in addition to the author provides a veritable trove of inspiration for one's own original pieces. The appendices provide helpful information and numbers pertaining not only to fabricating boxes and lockets, but to all silver and goldsmithing in general. I must concur with the general consensus that McCreight's book are all essential resources for the metalsmith.
A "how-to" book that really shows you "how-to"........2001-03-25
Tim has gathered beautifully photographed examples of remarkably intricate and creative boxes and lockets. However, rather than intimidate the novice, his instructions are so clear that one can turn out a modest success quickly. This book is to box making what Stark's book is to chains.

Book Description
When I started to write The Looking Glass, I intended to create a story about the healing power of hope and love. But as this story developed, a message began to emerge that I had not foreseen, a message about the distorted mirror in which we view ourselves, binding ourselves with shackles of self-doubt and fear.
The Looking Glass is aptly named, for it is about seeing the reality of ourselves: to see a true reflection of who we are.
It is the story of Hunter Bell, a Presbyterian minister turned gambler, and the founder of a gold camp named Bethel. (Which you may remember was Esther's hometown in The Locket.) He is running from the bitter memories of his past, his ministry, and ultimately, from his God.
Venturing into a blizzard to chase away wolves drawn close to his cabin by hunger, Hunter finds a beautiful young woman in the snow, wounded by the wolves and half dead with the cold. Her name is Quaye McGandley, and she is an Irish woman sold into marital slavery to a brutal husband who then brought her to America against her will. As Hunter nurses her back to health, he finds that his tender ministrations to Quaye have opened his heart to his greatest fear -- that he might love again.
It is my hope that you, and those with whom you share my book, might through its message better see the divinity within yourself and the reality of who you are: worthy of love, gentleness, and grace.
With hope,
Richard Paul Evans

A WONDERFUL LOVE STORY.......2007-03-08
I really loved this book even though some parts are sad but I was really moved by the story. It's about a girl in Ireland during the potato famine who's family is so poor forcing to sell her to an American man who is ruthless towards her marries her but she falls for another man (A minister)who rescues her in a snowstorm and they both fall in love during the late 1850s during the gold rush days. A very beautiful, very lovely story. Well written. I also read the Christmas Box by him which was also beautifully written. This is such a great beautiful book. I cried during parts of it.
The Looking Glass by Richard Paul Evans.......2007-01-10
This book is very good. I have yet to read any book of Richard Evans that is not good. Sandra
Really Good Book.......2006-11-28
This is a good book, but has sadness. It is sentimental. The main character's first wife died, and his daughter is back East. I think the ending is sad.
A book about endurance, persistence and forgiveness..........2004-02-10
Richard Paul Evans is one of my favorite authors. My first book from him is the Christmas Box Series. After that first book, I was determined to read ALL of his books!! His books are absolutely fantastic! They leave you feeling good and makes you treasure the people that you love even more. Go ahead! Pick any book from Richard Paul Evans! I'm sure it leaves you wanting more.
