5 out of 5 stars The best!.......2007-10-08

This book has been my baby's favorite book from age 3 months to now (11 months)!

5 out of 5 stars Great first book for baby.......2007-09-29

As mentioned by other reviewers, this is a flap book that teaches babies different body parts by playing "peek a boo" and hiding the babies' mouth, feet, belly button etc. This was the first book my baby ever focused on when he was around two months (I think it is due to the movement of the flaps and the bright pictures). At four months he still enjoys this book over most of his other books.

5 out of 5 stars Bright and Colorful.......2007-09-17

I had never heard of Karen Katz until I came across this book last Christmas and decided to buy it as a gift for my then 9-month old son. One of the best decisions I've ever made. He loves it just as much now (almost a year later) as he did when I first got it for him. I have no idea why this book tickles him so much, but anything that keeps him happy an laughing is a permanent hit with me. We've since purchased more books by Karen Katz and he enjoys them all, but "Where Is Baby's Belly Button" is by far his all-time favorite!

3 out of 5 stars Flaps hard to open.......2007-09-16

I bought this book based on rave reviews and recommendation for my daughter. While it's a great concept and the colors are eye catching, the book was a real flop for my daughter and I because the flaps were so hard to open. My daughter would lose interest between "Where is Baby's mouth?" and the time it would take for me to reveal the body part. When she was older, she also had trouble opening them, and we had to bend a few flaps to make it easier. I really try to avoid this book during story time.

5 out of 5 stars Fun Read.......2007-09-13

Our son's only 3 months old and even though he probably didn't get a kick out of it we did....can wait until he can understand it!! HEHE

5 out of 5 stars Good way to introduce the "birds and the bees".......2007-09-01

My son and I had the best laughs reading this book; somewhat embarrasing at time but it was all out there, he was able to ask questions and it was a great way to discuss these things with him as it is with any child. I highly recommend this book for 9 or 10 year olds if your ready to discuss such things with them.

2 out of 5 stars Offers too much detail in my opinion.......2007-08-23

Although I believe this book may be suitable for some kids, I do not believe it is suitable for my son and that is why I did not give it to him. Some pages from the book actually made me turn red! It is my opinion that kids do not need to know all the details provided in this book in order to get the message of where they came from. An edited version would work better for me.

5 out of 5 stars Covers the embarressing areas.......2007-08-23

This book does a great job at explaining why grownups like to have sex. It describes the feelings, without getting lewd.

3 out of 5 stars Where Did I Come From?.......2007-08-09

My son read this in addition to another similar book, and said that this book has less information in it.

5 out of 5 stars Just the facts.......2007-07-13

Great book. I had it when I was a kid and bought it for my niece and nephew. It's just the facts. With all the sex in the media and talk on the playground I think kids deserve to know the truth.

Product Description

The 1964 Caldecott Medal Winner for the Most Distinguished Picture Book of the Year by Maurice Sendak. Brian O'Doherty of The New York Times said the Mr. Sendak's work "disguised in fantasy, springs from his earliest self, from the vagrant child that lurks in the heart of all of us."

Amazon.com

Where the Wild Things Are is one of those truly rare books that can be enjoyed equally by a child and a grown-up. If you disagree, then it's been too long since you've attended a wild rumpus. Max dons his wolf suit in pursuit of some mischief and gets sent to bed without supper. Fortuitously, a forest grows in his room, allowing his wild rampage to continue unimpaired. Sendak's color illustrations (perhaps his finest) are beautiful, and each turn of the page brings the discovery of a new wonder.

The wild things--with their mismatched parts and giant eyes--manage somehow to be scary-looking without ever really being scary; at times they're downright hilarious. Sendak's defiantly run-on sentences--one of his trademarks--lend the perfect touch of stream of consciousness to the tale, which floats between the land of dreams and a child's imagination.

This Sendak classic is more fun than you've ever had in a wolf suit, and it manages to reaffirm the notion that there's no place like home.

5 out of 5 stars Still As Good.......2007-09-26

I grew up just loving this book. I think it havd more influence on my imagination than any other book.

I recently had a son and purchased this book to read with him and it is just as entertaining after all these years.

5 out of 5 stars Timeless Tale Is Sheer Magic!.......2007-09-19

What child hasn't dreamed of being a wild animal, untamed and free? Of having no boundaries or restrictions?

In the magical world of a young boy's imagination, a wonderland can blossom. Sent to bed without supper for misbehaving, the unrepentant and spirited Max lets his imagination soar. His bedroom transformed into an exotic wilderness, Max sets sail across a deep blue sea to where the "wild things" are. After taming all of these fearsome monsters (turns out, he's the wildest of them all), the newly crowned "king of all wild things" leads them on quite a romp....until the lonely boy decides to return to the place where he is loved.

This journey into imagination is wonderful, whimsical and extraordinary. Small wonder that "Wild Things" was named the Caldecott Medal Winner for the Most Distinguished Picture Book of the Year in 1964. Author/Illustrator Maurice Sendak has created a timeless classic - one which will always be among my personal favorites.

5 out of 5 stars FUN!.......2007-09-19

Read as a child myself, who does not have this book?? If you don't-- get one! My children love it, I love it, even my husband loves it! It's fun, fun, fun! And kids LOVE to act it out quoting verbatim after reading for the 123rd time! Must have for the family library! (hang onto it even after they've grown, let them have it to read to their kids!)

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful, imaginative book.......2007-09-15

This is a great children's book and is on many top lists, won numerous awards, etc. It is a wonderful, typical Sendak-style story where something scary is not so scary after all. Great for girls and boys!

4 out of 5 stars Something different.......2007-09-08

I like reading this story to my little girl. She loves the unique pictures and the story line makes her giggle. It is something different than the normal fairy tale stories, which I happen to be sick of. I think it is a fun book for both me and my little girl to read.

Author Wilson Rawls spent his boyhood much like the character of this book, Billy Colman, roaming the Ozarks of northeastern Oklahoma with his bluetick hound. A straightforward, shoot-from-the-hip storyteller with a searingly honest voice, Rawls is well-loved for this powerful 1961 classic and the award-winning novel Summer of the Monkeys. In Where the Red Fern Grows, Billy and his precious coonhound pups romp relentlessly through the Ozarks, trying to "tree" the elusive raccoon. In time, the inseparable trio wins the coveted gold cup in the annual coon-hunt contest, captures the wily ghost coon, and bravely fights with a mountain lion. When the victory over the mountain lion turns to tragedy, Billy grieves, but learns the beautiful old Native American legend of the sacred red fern that grows over the graves of his dogs. This unforgettable classic belongs on every child's bookshelf. (Ages 9 and up)

Book Description

Billy, Old Dan and Little Ann -- a Boy and His Two Dogs...

Old Dan had the brawn, Little Ann had the brains -- and Billy had the will to train them to be the finest hunting team in the valley. Glory and victory were coming to them, but sadness waited too. And close by was the strange and wonderful power that's only found...

An exciting tale of love and adventure you'll never forget.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Exciting ending, boring beginning.......2007-10-04

I found the beginning of this book to be quite boring. It felt like the same thing happened in practically every chapter up to about page one hundred. He would hunt, get in danger, and get out of it. Same thing every time. After that, however, it got better. More things happened like him getting in the competition, and the tragic ending. Overall it was a decent book.

1 out of 5 stars Most heartbreaking ending ever........2007-08-16

This book was great until the end. I read it as a kid in the 5th grade and enjoyed the story and the journey of the kid earning money for the dogs and his bond with them.

But, the ending is horrible. You will cry, you will be angry, and you will feel betrayed by this book forever. My husband and I still can't beleive how depressing the end is.

If you must read this stop before the last couple of chapters. Then imagine the dogs living a happy long life by the fireplace.

5 out of 5 stars Where the Red Fern Grows.......2007-08-06

This book is great for anyone who has ever lost a dear pet. This novel explores the adventures of a boy and his dogs; dogs which he remembers well into adulthood. The story is a real tear-jerker.

5 out of 5 stars Where The Red Fern Grows.......2007-07-09

Everyone who has ever had a faithful dog should read Billy's story at least once in his or her lifetime. It's an ageless tale that touches the heart and mind.

Ten-year old Billy lived in the Ozark Mountains with his parents and three younger sisters. The family was extremely poor, as were most of their neighbors at that time, and could only afford the bare necessities of life. Billy's dream of having a pair of coonhounds of his own seemed to be only that until he found a resourceful way to earn the money for himself.

For two long years, Billy trapped and sold animal pelts until he had finally saved enough money to finance his lifelong dream. With his grandfather's help, he ordered two pups and then walked several miles to bring them home. That's when the real adventures began.

If the story is beginning to sound familiar, it should. "Where the Red Fern Grows" by Wilson Rawls is an unforgettable classic that has been enjoyed for generations.

So where does the red fern come into the story? You'll just have to read it for yourself, and don't be surprised if you hear the distant bawling of a couple of dogs who have tree'd a `coon each time you open the book.

It's just Little Ann and Old Dan, for they've never really left these Ozark hills.

5 out of 5 stars Bought it for my son after reading it myself in my younger days........2007-06-08

Maybe only country boys can appreciate it, but I thought it was a simple, yet great story, timeless.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Harry Potter Schoolbooks.......2007-09-24

I really enjoyed these books. They were an enjoyable sampling of a few extra aspects of the Harry Potter universe. J.K. did a good job with fleshing out the history of quidditch and the variety of magical creatures that get mentioned throughout the HP series.

4 out of 5 stars Cute and entertaining.......2007-08-29

A must read for Harry Potter fans. Quidditch Through the Ages is written to appear like a book that is actually been checked out from the Hogwarts Library while Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them is an actual textbook used by Harry and Ron. The markings written by Harry and Ron in the book are priceless.

5 out of 5 stars Harry Potter Schoolbooks.......2007-08-23

It is an amusing set of books. If you have all seven books, you will also like this set. I didn't realize that Rowling had written this set around book five. The money from the sales goes to charity and the odd facts are interesting. She is creative in her description of the different beasts in the first book and the history of quidditch in the second book. The other games that predate quidditch are amusing.

5 out of 5 stars Good companion.......2007-08-16

These books are good to fill in the blanks that all of the creature and quiddich references leave in the Harry Potter series. they are short enough to read in one sitting, so they are worth it for any Harry Potter fan wanting to get a little more out of the HP universe

4 out of 5 stars A Great Complement to the Harry Potter Series.......2007-08-16

These two books complement the Harry Potter Series. Designed as "school books" for Harry, they explain the game of quidditch and the different beasts which inhabit the wizarding world.

If you are a serious Harry Potter fan, you need these books

My 20-month daughter absolutely loves this book. Lifting all the flaps and being suprised everytime to see what is behind them. Come in . . . for where the sidewalk ends, Shel Silverstein's world begins. You'll meet a boy who turns into a TV set, and a girl who eats a whale. The Unicorn and the Bloath live there, and so does Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout who will not take the garbage out. It is a place where you wash your shadow and plant diamond gardens, a place where shoes fly, sisters are auctioned off, and crocodiles go to the dentist.

Shel Silverstein's masterful collection of poems and drawings is at once outrageously funny and profound.

5 out of 5 stars A WONDERFUL BOOK FROM THOSE WONDERFUL 70'S.......2007-09-28

Where the Sidewalk Ends was such a special book to me
growing up. I could read that book and just be lost in
it. Not thinking of the day ahead or bad times. I was
a part of Shel's world and what a world to be in. Boy's
who sell their bratty sisters,a girl who eats a whale, the
girl who just WILL NOT TAKE THE GARBAGE OUT!!! This book
brought so much joy to me. I first read this in school like
most of you at our library and really could not put it down.
This will forever be a BIG part of my special place to escape.
The 70's brought so much joy to me like being in school and
watching for the first time the little blond boy who lost the
red balloon(remember that) Marlo Thomas's FREE TO BE YOU AND ME!
CAPTAIN KANGAROO and those Ping-Pong Balls. How about The Most
Important Person in the World is YOU! THE BANANA SPLITS(one banana
two banana three banana four, the banana splits are knocking at your door)and who can forget A YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS. I'm MR. Heat Mys-er
he is Mr. Snow! How about being 6yrs.old and seeing KISS for the first time. Like the guy with the trench-coat and Derby hat who painted numbers
on men's bald heads from Sesame Street. Where the Sidewalk Ends will
ALWAYS be a part of me. And recommend to all. I will be reading
Shel's wonderful poems to my children and hope you too will read them.
It's funny? I remember writing these poems to my mom who really is a writer. She would be at her typewriter and I would hand her some paper
with Shel's poems and say they were mine. She knew I had not written
these wonderful poems myself, yet she told me she loved them. Anyway
buy Where the Sidewalk Ends. Also recommend A Light in the Attic
and Falling Up!

5 out of 5 stars CLASSIC SHEL SILVERSTEIN.......2007-09-12

This is a magical book, when anyone i know has a child i buy them this book to give to their child when they begin to read books, it is quite simply a must in any childs book collection. I still have my childhood copy on the self and at times when i really need a smile, i'll pull it down off the shelf and read it, and it never cease to give me a lift. I recommend this book as highly as any i have ever read, it really is the benchmark for childrens books.

5 out of 5 stars Silverstein makes a second generation of poetry lovers.......2007-09-11

When I was a kid, I adored this book. I had it when it was new and "fresh." My parents, both English majors, bought it to open my world to poetry and I gobbled it up with zeal! Who could not love poems about kids who "would not take the garbage out?" Recently, my Mother gave the book to my six year old daughter who loves it so much that she is now sleeping with it under her pillow. Usually, getting her to read the second grade requisite 20 minutes per night is a bit of a trial. Right now, she asks me when reading time will be because she is so excited to get back to Shel Silverstein! Buy this book for every child you know and you will make readers, poetry lovers and more creative children and the world will be a better place!

5 out of 5 stars Imaginitive and Inspiring.......2007-08-09

I got this book for my son for his 4th birthday and it is probably his favorite book. He loves picking out poems to read at bedtime and memorizing and reciting the poems during playtime. I personally think that the poems have a quite adult-comedy to them but still they are immature and silly and goodhearted in nature. I have always liked Shel Silverstein; his work is simply timeless.

5 out of 5 stars Always a classic.......2007-08-04

We were brought up on these delightful and funny poems in our elementary school outside of Chicago. I will treasure them forever as they gave me an excellent reading foundation and sparked my interest in poetry.

Excellent teaching tool.

Newborns and 4 year olds all love these books. I give them to all of my friends as a baby shower gift.

4 out of 5 stars We <3 Karen Katz.......2007-05-16

These are, hands down, our daughter's favorite books. She enjoys them over and over. The illustrations are bright and cute -- highly recommend these books -- especially the lift the flap -- she LOVES them.

5 out of 5 stars Baby's Box of Fun.......2007-05-13

I purchased this book set for my grandson when he was 12 months old. Listening to books is the only time he actually sits still. His favorite book was Toes, Ears, & Nose although he likes all the books because they are interactive. The only problem with the books is if he is left unsupervised or even when holding him, he rips off the flaps in the books. We have had to glue them back on numerous times. I would highly recommend these books but you must be careful with babies that are aggressively interactive with the books.

5 out of 5 stars LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!.......2007-03-28

This item was received as a gift and my 2 yr old loves her lift the flaps books. Her favorite out of this collection is "Where is Mommy". I have also purchased them for my friends children and they love them.

1 out of 5 stars Never received mine, bought from 'oktrbks'.......2007-01-05

I bought this from 'oktrbks' and never received.
Contacted the seller and was asked if I want another copy so I said 'yes'
I have not received this yet. I was waiting for this because I believed the seller will send me an another copy. But now It's been more than 90 days so I can not even get my money back.
Not a big money but doesn't feel good at all about the seller's feedback.
Will see if the seller will contact me about this item or not.
I sent an memo to seller today again.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Buy it.......2007-05-30

If you are looking at this at Amazon, then you are interested in it. The low price I paid on Amazon, around five dollars, makes this a no brainer. Even at full price it is a fun book. My daughter loves the Little Einsteins and I don't mind them either. I am very picky about the educational value of toys and books.

4 out of 5 stars Great concept but design needs help.......2007-05-09

My 2 1/2 year old son loves L.E.--he calls the show "Rocket." When I saw this book, I knew I had to buy it for him. He does love the book and we read it at least 4 times a week for bedtime stories. It's good for teaching some letters (A-F-R-I-C-A) as well as places around the world. He is learning that the Eiffel Tower is in France and that kangaroos live in Australia.

My complaint is how the rocket magnifier is attached to the book. Like the other reviewer, my son ripped the plastic holder off the first day when he was trying to figure out how to get the rocket out.

The plastic cord that attaches the magnifier to the book is in an awkward spot so it makes it difficult to turn the pages while the child is eager to look at things with the magnifier. We have a small tear on the top of one of the pages for just this reason.

4 out of 5 stars Good for toddlers/preschoolers.......2007-03-12

The little magnifier is really a great plus for this book. My grandson enjoyed searching and finding the letters hidden on the pages.

The only reason I didn't rate it '5' is that the cord that connects the magnifier to the book tore the top of the page the first day. Certainly could be because my grandson is 3 and still handles things awkwardly. I guess it is a toss up between a ripped page and a lost magnifier!

4 out of 5 stars Great Book.......2007-02-18

My daughter loved this book. being 3 at the time she quickly grasped the use of the magnifying glass, which was brilliantly secured to the book so we have never lost it.

5 out of 5 stars great quality.......2007-02-12

Little Einsteins is absolute great quality in so many ways---both in cartoon on DVD/television on Disney channel or book. Today I also bought the CD Musical Missions and look forward to listening to it in the car as we sing to the songs together.
The book is delightful with the different ways you can read this as a regular book or learning tool. The colors are great---top quality up with the RoliePolieOlie books as well.
Yes, the Little Einsteins are more expensive as are the RoliePolieOlie books, but what can we do? It's delightful to have a variety of books to read. Anything that keeps the yearning of a child to read more is well worth it because it's too easy to just turn on the television instead. Children have to learn to love books which will help them in many more ways than passive viewing of a television can.

5 out of 5 stars Thankfully, this one is a keeper!.......2007-10-02

This book satisfies a child's natural curiosity about the everyday world around us. That garbage that we carry out in big plastic bags after raking the lawn, cleaning out the cellar, or tidying up the kitchen -- you just have to wonder where all this garbage ends up!

Diagrams, charts, graphs and cute illustrations will put kids in the know about dumps, landfills, recycling and preventing unnecessary waste to help the environment.

Well done volume on a timely subject.

5 out of 5 stars Every day Jobs that interest kids!.......2007-09-03

My son, like many curious 5 year olds, enjoys watching the Garbage Truck. And he loves to ask questions such as posed by the book's title, Where Does the Garbage Go?

As with most books I have seen in the Let's Read and Find Out Science series, it begins with a story to engage the child in the books primary theme. This one begins in a "traditional" classroom setting where the children learn all about garbage from their classroom teacher. It's a great conversation starter with a young child or group of children to ask them where they think the garbage goes.

In this book children will learn:

1. what garbage is (various types of garbage - yard waste, consumer waste, recycling etc.)

2. simple diagrams explain how an incinerator works, how glass, aluminum, paper and plastic is recycled

3. the process that transpires at a landfill, which includes bulldozers, compactors and dump trucks (a thrill for my son for sure)

4. practical ways to reduce our own garbage

5 out of 5 stars Recycle this one.......2007-01-10

My 4 year old grandson and I have lots of discussion on the things we learned in this book. Wonderfully done!

5 out of 5 stars Great informative book!.......2006-08-20

My 3 year old grandson loves this book. I bought it for him because he loves to watch the garbage truck come by every week. This book really taught him what happens to the garbage after pick-up.

5 out of 5 stars Great introduction to waste management for young children.......2006-03-22

This book is one of my collection for a Recycling education center. It is helpful because it breaks down the process of landfilling and recycling as well as shares what we throw away as Americans via a pie chart.
