this book was amazing..i really dont read that much and i really enjoyed this book and finished it the same day it was delivered..i just got so into it..
CHYNA BLACK.......2007-05-29
Chyna had a little trouble at home with her mother, and winds up being put out. She moves in with Tyreik who becomes her man, the love of her life wich becomes a relationship she just was not ready for. Immature when it came to handling the problems in her relationship, I found her behavior so so childish and found myself at times wanting to wring her neck but, thats what a good read does bring out your emotions, and Keisha has done that .
Off The Hook.......2007-05-18
I loved this book, I was glued to the page from begining til the end. Chyna was a trip, I felt like I was on the emotional rollercoaster with her. The one thing I liked about her was that she made alot of mastikes, but she learned from them and got her Sh** togeather. She wasn't running around doing the some old stuff she matured and learned her lesson. Awesome read I would reccomend this book to all young women. You go Keisha Ervin do your thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eh it was aight.......2007-05-11
The first few chapters of this book were hard to get through. Around chapter 4 when her mom puts her out I became more interested. I became even more interested when there was talk of sex with Tyreik. Just because the book needed spice.
Starting off in this piece (I haven't read anything else by her and probably won't), it's obvious that Ms. Ervin's writing skills are not that great. It jumped around too much, the dialogue was ummm I don't even know what to call it...painful will do, and character development was scarce. I didn't get why some family members were elaborated on and not in an effective manner and Pat was barely touched up on. I would have enjoyed some colorful stories about her. Matter of fact, Pat was the only person in the book I could envision as I read besides India.
This book lacked passion and I couldn't relate to the lead character. I am not that hood I guess. Besides that fact I do have people in my life who have lived in the hood. I don't think this book did any justice for telling a story based on the hood.
The only thing I could relate to is her relationship with her mom. The love issues with Tyreik I just couldn't get with. There was no real emotion. It was too much of the stuff on the surface. The same old lines, same old sex scenes, blah blah.
This book is recommended to go with Crackhead by Lisa Lennox. Go with Ms. Lennox instead. As I said, I ain't hood but I could still feel for the main character in crackhead and relate to her. I felt cheated when I started reading the book. I purchased on amazon reader reviews.
Mmph!! I was played.

Good Read.......2007-10-08
Actually, I ordered this book because I heard it was good but I had my bad impression on it already; I thought it would've been the typical gangsta street stuff. Even though it was, it was actually a good read. Keisha Ervin's writing quality is raw and street and easy to understand. I knew what was going to happen at the ending because like I said, it was a typical storyline but I did like it and I can't wait to read Torn. Peace...
I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO EVERYONE!.......2007-08-31
THIS BOOK WAS ABOSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! I DIDNT WANT TO PUT THE BOOK DOWN FOR ONE SECOND... AND THE ENDING!!! OH MY GOD THE ENDING HAD ME SO FAR ON THE EDGE OF THE SEAT I DIDNT KNOW WHAT WAS GONNA HAPPEN NEXT....IT WAS SO UNPREDICTABLE.... THIS GURL REALLY KNOWS HOW TO KEEP A READER READING AND NOT STOP UNTIL THEY REACH THE VERY LAST PAGE OF THE BOOK.

Girl, you done it again........2007-09-07
I didn't think that you could have done better than "Hold you down", but girl this book was the bomb. I laugh at Delicious and I hated the Wellington's for the way the treated Mina. Rita and Bernice was a trip. I can picture them on stage, being Salt n Pepa. But I love Victor, and I love the way he doesn't judge a book by it's cover. I can see his sexy and fine body. The book was awesome... I really enjoy it. I suggest that everyone get this book. Keep it coming Keisha

Mina's Joint.......2007-06-01
Kathy

My book review is on a book called Mina's Joint. Mina's Joint was a very interesting book. The main character in the book was named Mina. When they say don't judge a book by its cover, they must have been talking about Mina's Joint, because once I read the first page, I was hooked on it. It was such good book. Full of drama, passion anything you can imagine. Mina finds out the man she is about to marry didn't turn out the way she thought it would, he used to beat on her and on top of that she finds out that he likes blue eyed men, but she gets her revenge when girlfriend gets the whole thing on tape with a little help from her friends. While you are reading that book you would think this chick would never leave her fiancé. But it doesn't turn out that way. In walks in a fine dude named Victor from her past and makes everything better in her life.... I loved this book I have read this book about 2 times that's how good I thought it was. If I could I would read it all over again. I made connections with the book not as many but I did, you can always connect to a book like this. I connected to the fact that she was in a love triangle and didn't know who to pick or what to do with her life. At times people don't know what to do with their life I know I don't sometimes. I really wouldn't say that the book is important to the world because it's an average book on an average girl that goes through some tough times in her life, but in the long run it was all worth it. Everyone has probably been through something just like that or maybe even worse. But I would say that it's a good book that people should read. I would recommend this book to everybody to read because it was a really good book, and if you like books that would keep you thinking or guessing what is going to happen next, then Mina's Joint is the book for you.
Tickled.......2007-04-20
I enjoyed this book tremendously. Keisha... you did your thing girl. I was truly tickled with Mina's mother and Aunt Bernice to the fullest. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading urban lit.

Please Stop.......2007-08-03
Three stars for this book is a strech. I mean it was so boring I can't even get through it the only thing keeping my attention was a sexy Clarence is in the book. I mean to me the book focused more on the sally's character then keshia. Maybe the book should have been called Sally. Not to mention everything was so drug out. I flipped to almost the end of the book and keshia and C was just getting back up. Then I really lost interest. I mean come on it was so unrealistic, gow she gone still love someone who killed her mother. What a confused indiviual, and yes her feelings were really down played alot. I will not be purchasing any more books from this author. Please don't waist your money on this book. RUN RUN AS FAST YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GREAT READ!!.......2007-06-25
This book was very good, not your ordinary hip hop novel. The plot was original and the characters vivid and believeable.
Sleeping with the enemy.......2007-06-22
Keisha was a good book. Could you imagine that the man you love killing your mother who is your best friend, your everything. The Pin Stripped Bitch found out what was going on but could do nothing to stop it. Gives new meaning to sleeping with the enemy.
This Book Was Okay..........2007-03-30
THIS BOOK WAS KIND OF SLOW IN THE BEGINNING. USUALLY IT TAKES ME ABOUT ONE OR TWO DAYS TO READ A BOOK, BUT BECAUSE IT WAS SO SLOW, I READ THIS BOOK IN THREE/FOUR DAYS.
KEISHA WANTS TO GET REVENGE ON HER SWEETHEART BUT IS BASICALLY LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT WAY TO GET HIM GOOD BECAUSE OF THE WAY HE MADE HER SUFFER BY KILLING HER MOTHER. THE WAY SHE GOT HIM BACK WASN'T EXACTLY WHAT I WAS EXPECTING. I BEGAN TO FEEL BAD FOR CLARENCE BECAUSE WHEN HE KILLED HER MOTHER, HE REALLY DIDNT MEAN TO. SHE WAS SHOOTING AT HIM FIRST.
OVERALL, THIS BOOK WAS OKAY. A LOT OF FRIENDS SAY THAT THIS BOOK WAS THE BOOK THEY HAVE READ. THIS BOOK DOESNT EVEN COME CLOSE TO THE OTHER BOOKS THAT I HAVE READ.
ANYWAY, DARRELL DID A GOOD JOB WITH THE VOCABULARY, HE HAS A GOOD CHOICE OF WORDS. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
TOP 10.......2007-02-26
THIS WAS A GOOD BOOK FROM BEGINNING TO END. A MUST READ FOR ALL URBAN BOOK LOVERS

Customer Reviews:
Wow - what a great book!.......2007-08-21
This book is a great tool to help siblings, other family members and non-relatives (including teachers and students) to understand some of the world of kids with autism. This is a very touching story deserving of the acclaim it has received and more. Schools systems would do well to include this book in their libraries. Great story and illustrations! Great work!
A story to help children and parents alike cope with communication challenges.......2007-06-29
Author Marvie Ellis, pediatric speech-language pathologist, founded Speech Kids Texas Press in 2005 for to publish children's storybooks on communication needs. Kiesha's Doors is a bilingual storybook in which English and Spanish text appear simultaneously on the same page. This technique reinforces to children and adults alike the multicultural nature of the modern world we live in, and seeing other languages on the same page may encourage children to explore secondary languages. I think this technique is superior to the alternative of publishing two separate translations. Children's brains easily learn multiple languages, so why not give them as much exposure as possible?
In Kiesha's Doors (Las Puertas de Keisha), 2 year-old Kiesha has stopped communicating with her family, become a picky eater, and taken to a favorite rocking chair. Kiesha parents and her older sister Monica (age 9) learn that she has autism, and they must adapt their communication style to reach Kiesha (to "open her doors"). The story is not just about Monica's adjustment to life with Kiesha, but about the Mom and Dad's journey to get a diagnosis and learn how to relate to their child. It is truly a family story, and it raises important diagnosis questions as well as coping skills. The illustrations are vibrant crayon-style (I loved the way the eyes and faces glow!).
Every library should invest in a copy of this book, and every child and parent should read it at least once, to learn about dealing with people who communicate differently from ourselves.
A profoundly beneficial look at autism through the eyes of a child.......2007-05-02
Marvie Ellis is providing a great service to a significant number of people with her Autism Story Books. If you're like me, you know less about autism than you think you do - unless and until someone in your life is born autistic. And if we adults don't really understand what autism is and is not, imagine how hard it would be for a young child to understand it all. Keisha's Doors is told from the perspective of just such a child, a nine-year-old girl who doesn't understand why her three-year-old sister Keisha won't play with her or speak when spoken to. When Keisha is diagnosed with autism, we are there with her family as the doctor and therapist explain what this means and begin to teach them techniques for establishing better communication with the little girl.
The conventional, knee-jerk reaction to a diagnosis of autism would probably be one of alarm and grief, and I'm sure one of the author's purposes in writing this book is to dispel such notions. Here, Keisha's condition is described in terms even her nine-year-old sister can understand: Keisha has certain mental "doors" that are closing her off from some of the people and things around her, and she just needs help opening up some of those closed doors. Rather than tearing the family apart, the situation actually brings them closer together. Now, even Keisha's sister understands why Keisha is different - she even knows a little bit about how to go about helping her expand her awareness.
This is a very positive, heart-warming look at a family caring in the proper way for an autistic child. The story itself is printed in both English and Spanish, while Jenny Loehr's beautiful illustrations speak volumes in and of themselves. Put it all together, and you have a wonderful book - perhaps the only one of its kind - designed to reach as many different people as possible with its important message. I learned something about autism myself in these pages, and I'm sure anyone with any kind of connection to an autistic child will benefit from this book - and Marvie Ellis' succeeding Autism Story Books - immensely.
VALUABLE AS WELL AS DELIGHTFUL - WELL DONE!.......2007-04-07
This is another wonderful tool given to us by the author Marvie Ellis and the illustrator/artist, Jenny Loehr. The author uses a little girl, the older sister of an autistic child, Keisha. This is very effective! The author certainly has a way of taking a very complex subject, and through her use of words, bringing that subject to the level that a child is able to understand. I loved her concept of "closed doors" and "opening doors." This is quite understandable to a child, and indeed, an adult faced with this devastating condition. Well done! The author takes us step by step through the process of identifying the condition, its treatment and, again, does it in a way that a young person can well understand.
I was delighted, and in fact thrilled, to see this work presented in both Spanish and English, together between two covers. Over the past five years our area of the country has gone through a change with the influx of Spanish speaking people. Our resources were, and are quite thin, and I am sorry to say, quite limited. Books such as this go along way in correcting this situation. My daughter, a first grade teacher, is faced with this language (and indeed, autistic children) problem each and every year, and works such as this are most helpful.
I personally found the illustrations in this book, by artist Jenny Loehr, quite pleasing as I like her method and style. She has the ability to capture so much with her simple facial expressions. The color choices certainly appeal to children and are quite eye catching in a subdued way. The illustrations go perfectly with the text and each, the text and the art work, complement each other perfectly.
Children have as much of a struggle understanding this devastating condition, even more than most adults. The author has done a wonderful job, in the way of explanation, at their level. I might add that any adult will also find this work quite informative. This is another valuable tool and should be included in any school program or home library were applicable. I, as a fully retired individual, do a tremendous amount of substitute teaching at our local schools. I fully intend to read these books to my younger classes. Ignorance is a horrible thing, and this book and the author's other book, Tacos Anyone?, go a long way in stamping it, the ignorance, out. Well done Ms Ellis! I highly recommend this one!

I don't care what anyone says about Keisha, it would be my greatest thrill to be the Snow Queen. I loved every page of this book except the ending where I simply didn't want it to end.
well written.......2001-04-29
i think that this book is a very good book for young children to read. i however agree with that twelve yr.old reader from arkansas. that girl tiffany just dissed the book and made it seem like it was crap, "i wouldnt recomend it", what type of crap is that? any way . i read this book a couple of years ago and i still find it as entertaining now as it was then. holla
good childrens book.......2001-04-29
Personally i think that this book is an exceptionally good book and that it is meant for young children to read. i was reading the reviews and one said(arkansas) that she didn't like the book and that they think of only themselves and that they are liars. all i ask is give the author a break! how old are you any way reading a childs book? ignorance these days. any way it is still a good book and only people with a good imagination should read it, not shallow people
Keisha the Fairy Snow Queen.......2000-03-14
I don't like the book. Keisha and her friends think of only themselves. They make up lies to keep them out of trouble. They go to sombody's house that's not theirs. I don't recommend the book.

A book about family history.......2000-11-18
Keisha's homework was to do a report on a time in America's history and she doesn't know what to write about. Her friends Heather, Megan, Alison and Rose are each writing about their family history. Keisha goes home and digs into her family photo albums with her parents and finds tons of pictures but nothing interesting to write about. She then decides to go to Ellie's attic and tries on a shimmering lavender dress like the ones from her pictures and is transported to Harlem in the 1920's. Her cousin Norma is a reporter and hears that Louis Armstrong is coming to town. When Norma can't "cover it" will Keisha be the one to interview Mr. Armstrong?
