Book Description
One of the most famous erotic novels of the century! First issued between 1873 and 1876, this titillating collaborative work of sexual awakening in Victorian England was repeatedly been banned for its immoralityand much sought after for its vivid portrayals of sodomy, sexual initiation, and flagellation. The novel that inspired Steven Marcus to coin the term pornotopic, Romance of Lust not only offers the reader a linguistic tour de force, but also delivers a long look at the many possibilities of heterosexual love.

The Romance of Lust.......2006-10-02
I have read some of the other opions on this book. I myself found the book a great read. At first I was a little bothered by the incest between brother and sisters but I have read many stories and for centries this has been going on but anyway I would say it was enjoyable.
Also remember "opions" are like [...] holes we all have one (laughing)!!
A woman says this book is truly wonderful.......2006-08-27
Don't listen to the person who describes this book as containing abusive content--that is simply not true! There are some scenes of very mild spanking, etc., but participants are willing and eager. I think one of the reasons this erotic novel is so popular (besides the sheer number of pages describing every type of sex you can imagine!) is that our hero seems to genuinely love and respect the women (and men) that he cavorts with! He loves the hairy legs and large stomachs of the women (both young and old) and enjoys the differences between his female and male lovers. There is true affection between all the participants.
There is very explicit content--no doubt--and on practically every page too! But it is consistently entertaining and stimulating~!
As a woman, I can say that I love this book!
The Romance of Lust.......2006-03-06
This book contains extremely degrading sadistic text through-out.
Amazon should practice greater disclosure when it comes to presenting products with so much abusive content(perhaps a rating system) so those reasonable carefull in there selections do not purchase such dehumanizing content unknowingly. Greater and clearer discloser would benifit both the buyer and seller avoiding uncessary resentment as well as benifit society as a whole.
PS I not religously oriented and liberal in my viewpoints within limits.
Delicious!.......2002-12-04
If reading graphic ... scenes that will get your juices flowing is your thing, read on. Although there is a lot of repetitively descriptive terminology, the book is definitely a good one! It was written for pure sensual/... enjoyment! I would like to find more books written by this particular anonymous author!!
The absolute best of Victorian erotica writing .... WOW.......2002-05-18
Hitting the scales at over 500 pages the connosoire of Victorian erotica will absolutely read every single page probably over and over again ...... This book, first published as four volumes, is now generally reprinted as one book with all four volumes .. For those readers that have a proclivity to enjoy coming of age books as told by a young man than this is the best of all Victorian examples I have ever devoured....
A fifteen year old Charlie Roberts he manages to witness a recently married houseguest, Mrs. Benson, in the thoes of sex with her husband. The little voyeur is soon discovered by the newlywed, and, instead of becoming outraged and immediately snitching on his parents, Mrs. B swears Charlie to keep 'their secret' and she will 'reward him' for his silence. Well let me tell you what a deviously delicious reward it was, and, she went out of her way to reward Charlie over and over..... Matter of fact, she introduced Charlie to her friend and she also rewarded him over and over ......
Our hero, very quickly decides to spread his newfound knowledge with his two younger sisters and, feigning innocence, allows himself to be seduced by two successive live-in governesses, one of which he actually impregnates......
Charlie's appetite for the erotic and sexual becomes voracious as he managed to either seduce, or let himself be seduced, by practically anyone that comes within his grasp, including, of course, (it is after all Victorian erotic lit) his mother .... Male and female alike fall under his spell one way or another ....
I can't imagine much under the norms either eroticism or sexuality that isn't described in the most delicious and intimate detail in this book so it's easy to understand why repeated print runs, over the past 40 years alone, have been bought by Grove Press, Caroll & Graf, Masquarade Books and now in 2002 a new edition by Blue Moon to be relased in June. If the past sales are any indication, this edition will sell out fast as well and will also be treasured as keepsaked for those naughtiest of moments to read alone ....

Book Description
Kamikaze Lust by first-time novelist Lauren Sanders takes the reader on an electrifying ride through the spectacle of life and death in millennial America. Smart, hardboiled and humorous, the novel taps our obsession with sex and death, sex and popular culture, sex and the written word, sex and pornography, sex and green M&Ms, and, of course, the perennial sex and love.
"Great courage must account for such complete disregard of political correctness, and great sensitivity for such sadness."-Amanda Filipacchi, author of Vapor and Nude Men
Lauren Sanders is a novelist and journalist who lives in New York City. She is co-editor of the anthology Too Darn Hot: Writing About Sex Since Kinsey, published by Persea Books in 1998. She is a graduate of Columbia University's school of journalism and has an MA in Creative Writing from City College in New York.
Customer Reviews:
Emotions, Existentialism and Erotica.......2005-04-17
I am quite surprised to see so many negative reviews of this book. I think they come from those for whom terms like "pussy" and "anal sex" are shocking. They see these words and think the author is going for shock value.
But for many of us, these terms are not shocking. Sex in all of its forms rolls with and influences the ebbs and tides of existence, and can be talked about in any and every way without being "shocking".
Thus, Kamikaze Lust revisits the relationship between the feelings of erotic attraction and feelings of mortal dread (fear of death). On one level it simply draws a parallel, a sort of yin-yang of sex and death. A young woman dabbles with getting her feet (and other things) wet as a porn actress, and at the same time she's thinking over helping her terminally ill aunt die.
Yet somehow this is still a quaint, almost homey, fairy-tale of a novel. It is like something Hermann Hesse would have written as a young man. Rachel (protagonist) experiments with both lesbian sex, and for her, yet unexplored types of heterosexual sex. In both cases, the scenes carry a wistful, wandering feeling. The character is venturing into the unknown and the prose confers this to the reader.
Kamikaze Lust is neither a gay/lesbian "coming out" story, nor a preachy "feminist" novel. It is the story of someone lost in the ocean of emotions, an existential story where a young woman who does not take the value of anything at first glance struggles to make what is temporary mean something. It's also about how she keeps her sanity when confronting the things in life so many see as either naturally horrible or horribly natural. In the end, Rachel seems to discover sex and death are both. How she makes this discovery is worth reading the book for.
Myopic Tunnel Vision.......2002-08-28
Kamikaze Lust rates at the bottom of the list of all books I have read. That is not to say that it doesn't have a few redeeming features: the story line is unique, the characters could be interesting, and Sanders appears to have a sense of humor. However, she does almost nothing to produce an interesting novel from those features.
The development of her characters is extremely limited; it is almost as if we have to look at them as though we suffer from extreme myopia and tunnel vision. We learn little about them beyond the fact that they have limited working vocabularies, with most of their words learned in the gutter.
Sanders squanders about half of her book on what she supposes will be titillating bedroom scenes; in reality, that half of the book is about as arousing as a medical textbook. It is the sort of writing a twelve-year-old kid would read in the dark recesses of a library's open stacks or behind the sofa at home. Does Sanders not know that excitement in writing requires stimulating the imagination of the reader? In these parts of the book she leaves nothing to the imagination, essentially saying, "Here's your manual for this particular form of sex play: Step 1..., Step 2..., etc."
The only chapter in the book that has literary value is the final one. Finally, we get some insight on a couple of the characters (other than that they can or cannot successfully do heavy breathing). Interestingly, this is the only chapter in which Sanders does not attempt to be arousing.
The book received the 2000 Lambda Literary Award...utterly amazing! The gay/lesbian community is blessed with an amazing array of highly talented, sensitive, fun loving, eloquent people. Is this amateur effort really worthy of award from them? Are they giving out the award based simply on the number of pages in which one or more characters demonstrate that they may not be totally straight? To my knowledge, I have never before read a Lambda winner, but I would certainly have expected to find the winner at the opposite end of the literary scale!
I believe that Sanders is a frustrated new age "feminist." I put the word feminist in quotes because she does not represent to me what a feminist really is; only what some people think that they should be. To Sanders, it seems that a feminist must exhibit as many anti-establishment characteristics as possible (since by their definition the establishment is male dominated). So, she goes out of her way to write in a non-traditional way: her writing must be crude, it must be explicit, and it must have all of the worthy characters be female and all of the unworthy characters be male (unless those males happen to be gay...she introduced some very appealing gay characters, but utterly failed to develop them). In my opinion, this book does nothing for the feminist movement or the gay/lesbian community, or for that matter, Sanders herself.
Not what I had expected.......2001-08-04
I really didn't like the book, it did not have my attention and by the last half of the first chapter I was bored. I wouldn't recommend this book as a remainder. It would be best to use this book as a door stopper.
Not as good as I hoped..........2000-09-30
It seems as though it's either one extreme or the other with this book, and I am one of those who didn't like it at all. If Sanders kept to one major plot instead of trying to develop three, it wouldn't be so bad. I think the author was trying to write a hip, cutting edge novel which got muddled down by trying to go in too many directions. I was bored by the time I was a quarter way through the novel and struggled to finish.
Oh, puh-leeze!.......2000-09-01
The scenes on the porno set read like some bored housewife's fantasy. I kept rereading them and laughing my head off. The book is awful, only worth buying for a laugh.

Book Description
Three new entrancing, erotic stories that are a little bit country-and a little bit out of this world.
She took you on a Wild Ride in her last collection of stories. Now rising star LuAnn McLane takes you to the achy breaky heart of country music with three magically sexy stories of guitar-pickin', worlds colliding, and inhibitions crumbling.
When the somewhat psychic Brooklyn Barone family hits Nashville, nothing will ever be the same. Opposites attract, sparks fly, and even the spirit world gets stirred up in three hot and sexy stories: "Crazy," "Honky Tonk Angel," and "Walkin' After Midnight."
Customer Reviews:
Just a touch of paranormal...........2007-01-24
LuAnn McLane mixes a bit of pixie dust with romance in this collection of three intertwined stories, LOVE, LUST AND PIXIE DUST.
In the first story, Crazy, psychic Mary Jane "M.J." Barone specializes in identifying the soul mates of people. When cowboy Brody Baker wanders drunkenly into her store, she is shocked to find he is her soul mate. However, Brody doesn't believe in the paranormal.
Honky-tonk Angel is the story of M.J.'s sister, Sophia, who is a professional medium. Sexy bar owner, Logan Parks, is adamantly opposed to the concept of mediums, particularly when his sister wants to contact their deceased grandmother. In the meantime, Sophia fears the return of a man she helped put in prison.
Walkin' After Midnight concludes this collection with the final Barone sibling, Lucio. Lucio is solidly grounded in reality as a personal trainer until he meets Logan's sister, Savannah. What happens when LOVE, LUST AND PIXIE DUST collide for these six individuals?
LuAnn McLane does a fabulous job at maintaining the continuity between these three stories. As each story segue ways to the next, the overall plotline is further advanced. The Pixie remains a unifying figure as does the theme of country music.
LuAnn McLane excels at creating snappy dialogue in LOVE, LUST AND PIXIE DUST. M.J., Sophia, and Savannah are all strong women but Brody, Logan, and Lucio are their perfect matches. The sizzling sensuality between each of these couples is sweetly done. The beautiful prose of Ms. McLane quickly engages the reader in each tale as love blossoms between soul mates.
LOVE, LUST AND PIXIE DUST is a quick read that is perfect for curling up next to a fire on a chilly night. LuAnn McLane's tales will appeal to fans of chick lit who want just a touch of paranormal and spice in their stories. Fans of LuAnn McLane will appreciate the winning combination of stories found in LOVE, LUST AND PIXIE DUST.

A romantic magical read that is out of this world!.......2006-10-09
Once again LuAnn McLane captivates her readers. This book is full of fun, romance, sizzle and magic! Three stories taking place in the cool town of Nashville, they portrait romances that are all tied together with characters that are individually unique. I love the way that she brings together the magic side of the story with the romance & matchmaking line. In this book the "opposites attract" becomes real, overcoming their differences to give her readers that happily ever after that we love so much if you don't believe in the magic of a romance, you will believe after this. This is a hot anthology you don't want to miss. Way to go LuAnn!
Another great and steamy read from Ms. McLane.......2006-10-07
Love, Lust, and Pixie Dust is a collection of three stories about the Barone siblings, who come from a family of psychics from New York. Each sibling finds love in the last place they expected to: Nashville, Tennessee.
"Crazy"
"Crazy" tells the story of Mary Jane Barone, a psychic from New York who has moved to Nashville and opened up Psychic Love Connection. She uses her psychic ability to help others find their soul mates. MJ has all but given up on finding her own soul mate, when in walks country singer, Brody Baker. MJ and Brody's chemistry and attraction to each other is instant and MJ knows he is meant for her. Now, with a little help from a mysterious friend named Pixie, she must find a way to make Brody believe in their fated love and in her psychic ability.
This well-written story was laced with humor and hot, vivid, sexy scenes that will not leave the reader disappointed.
"Honky Tonk Angel"
This second addition to the collection tells the story of MJ's sister, Sophia Barone. A famous psychic medium, Sophia has come to Nashville to work on a book and to hide from a paroled murderer that she helped put away. Bar owner Logan Parks is instantly attracted to Sophia despite his skepticism over her ability. Logan must overcome his skepticism and accept all of Sophia in order to be with her or else ruin the relationship.
With several laugh-out-loud moments and hot romance, this story is a standout in the collection.
"Walkin' After Midnight"
The final story in the anthology is about personal trainer Lucio Barone, MJ and Sophia's non-psychic brother, and Savannah Parks, Logan's sister. Savannah, an aspiring singer, is insecure about herself and her appearance. However, Lucio is instantly attracted to Savannah just the way she is and wishes to pursue a relationship with her. When Savannah gets a record deal and suddenly is too busy for a relationship, Lucio schemes to become her personal trainer so he can be with her.
As with the other two stories, "Walkin' After Midnight" has its share of humor and steamy romance as opposites attract.
Once again Ms. McLane has provided readers with a fun and sizzling read. Laced with humor and hot romance, each of the stories in this collection provides readers with an enjoyable experience. I would recommend Love, Lust and Pixie Dust to anyone looking for a sexy, humorous read with a touch of paranormal.
This book is the total package.......2006-10-05
Love, Lust and Pixie Dust is a delightful, fun loving and sexy anthology by LuAnn McLane.
Crazy has Mary Jane Barone running the "Psychic Love Connection." She hasn't found her true soul mate until by mistake a drunken Brody Baker walks into her store. One look from Brody and MJ knows he is the "one." But Brody is a much harder man to convince that Mary Jane is his soul mate especially with all the unexplained goings on. Brody has enough problems getting his solo singing career off the ground let alone dealing with a hot and sassy psychic. MJ and Brody light up the bed sheets with a blazing passion. Their chemistry just plain sizzles.
Sophia Barone gets her story in "Honky Tonk Angel." Sophia has come to Nashville to visit with her sister and to get away from the trouble back home. Sophia has been helping the police with her psychic abilities and its put her own life in danger. But a bigger danger is to her heart once she has set her sights on bar owner Logan Parks. Logan isn't sure he has much faith in Sophia's gifts but there is something about this woman that sets his blood on fire. Can these two opposites work through their differences to find something work keeping? Logan and Sophia connection is electric, their lust for life and each other is endearing.
Walkin' After Midnight brings the siblings of the Barone and the Parks family together. Singer Savannah Parks is finally getting her shot at the big time. Her brother friend Brody Baker is paving the way for her to get a listen to by a big shot record executive. Savannah is hustled to the stage by hot and sexy personal trainer Lucio Barone, who is sent to get her to the stage on time. Other than a little thing like smoking lust at first sight almost gets in the way. Once things take off for Savannah, Lucio isn't sure she will have time for their budding romance. But he realizes something this special you must fight for and he devices a winner takes all plan to get Savannah and their romance in shape. Their one upmanship to make the other lose control is so hot it about sets the pages on fire.
Love, Lust and Pixie Dust is a little bit country and a whole lot of spiciness. Each story is tantalizing, sexy, funny and sweet. One story just flows right into the next, added to the mix is a delightful little Pixie who adds a touch humor and spice that is not to be missed. LuAnn McLane is a writer on the rise, keep this author on your to buy list.
three interrelated paranormal romances .......2006-10-04
"Crazy". In Nashville, Brody Barker celebrates with too much alcohol the release of his first solo recording. Drunk he staggers into The Psychic Love Connection Shop owned by psychic Mary Jane (M.J.) Barone. She realizes immediately that he is her true love, but he thinks she is a nut case especially when Pixie the ghost that only she sees and hears advises her on matters of the heart and soul.
"Honky Tonk Angel". Next door to The Psychic Love Connection Shop is Logan's Bar where Brody was actually heading towards when he tottered into M.J.'s life. Owner Logan Parks is attracted to medium Sophie Barone, sister to M.J. He tries to ease her discomfit from a reoccurring nightmare while caressing his beloved. Frustrated Pixie tries to help this pathetic loser, who denies Pixie's existence, win the woman he cherishes.
"Walking After Midnight" Logan's sister country singer Savannah Parks dreams of a record deal while Lucio (Luc) Barone (brother to M.J. and Sophie) is a personal trainer to the stars and is hired to help her become sexier. They meet and the heat is on. However, his bad boy behavior costs her a chance at a recording deal and them a chance at love. Pixie knows Luc denies the psychic connection making it much more difficult to move this fitness and nutrition expert to understand what love is all about.
These three interrelated paranormal romances also have a love connection to Luann McLane's Wild Ride anthology (see "Hold on Tight"). Each tale is low-keyed fun as the Barone siblings find love with the help of Pixie the ghost.

Customer Reviews:
An Anthology the Way It Oughta Be Done!!.......2003-03-03
I've had bad luck in the past with Horror anthologies, so I put off reading Dark Love for a few Years after purchasing it. I should have had more faith in the Editors, because this is a rock-solid book, with not a dud to be found.
The book starts off with Stephen King's "Lunch at the Gotham Cafe, where a man and his soon-to-be-ex-wife find themselves confronted with a demented Maitre d'. The story is good (As most King stories are), but I found it more comedic than it seems to have been intended to be. (The way the Maitre d' keeps screaming "EEEEEEE!!!!" just struck me as funny...)
From there, the late, great Michael O'Donaghue contributes "The Psycho", a crazed Gunman on the loose story with a great twist ending.
Next is Kathe Koja's "Pas de Deux", probably the most realistic story in the book. It wasn't really my cup of tea, but it was well-written, and it had its moments.
Basil Copper's "Bright Blades Gleaming" is waaaay too long, and I saw the end coming a mile off, but again, it was a well-told tale. It could have been better if it was shorter, though.
John Lutz offers "Hanson's Radio", a tale of urban neighbors getting on each others nerves that I, a former Bronx apartment dweller, totally related to.
David J. Schow's "Refrigerator Heaven" is a chilling (Pun intended) tale of Mob torture gone HORRIBLY wrong. This story stuck with me for a long time after I finished reading it.
Ro Erg, by Robert Weinberg, starts as a bit of credit-card fraud whimsey, and goes off into totally unexpected territory.
Ramsey Campbell's "Going Under" quite frankly reeked, and I won't devote any of my time to describing it. (I guess there WAS one dud...)
Stuart Kaminsky's "Hidden" is an absolute gem; One of the best short stories I've ever read. It concerns a young boy who slaughters his family and devises an ingenious method of hiding from the law. The ending revelation is an absolute stunner.
"Prism", by Wendy Webb, is a short about Multiple-Personality Disorder that puts you in the head of the narrator. Short, but well-done.
The late Richard Laymon contributes "The Maiden", a dark tale of teenage lust, revenge, and the Supernatural. After reading this story, I've become a Laymon fan, and I'm hard at work collecting all of his books. The Maiden was THAT good....
Flaming Carrot/Mystery Men creator Bob Burden pens the hilariously demented "You've Got Your Troubles, I've Got Mine"; I felt dirty for laughing, but it was just so damned funny...Who knew Burden could write prose? Good job, Bob! More fun than a Spider in diapers!
George C. Chesbro offers "Waco", a creepy look at the inside of the Koresh Compound in it's last moments, as they're visited by a sardonic Vulture claiming to be God himself...
John Peyton Cooke's "The Penitent" is an S&M story that strong-stomached readers will find enjoyable. (I loved it.)
Kathryn Ptacek takes road-rage to a new level in "Driven"; I didn't really care for the ending, though...
John Shirley's "Barbara" is an interesting heist-gone-bad tale.
"Hymenoptera", by Michael Blumlein, features a Fashion Designer becoming obsessed aith an 8-Foot long Wasp (!). Weird and pointless, but I liked it nonetheless....
"The End of It All", by Ed Gorman, is a tale of Lust, Incest, Murder, & Revenge. Would make a GREAT movie...
"Heat", by Lucy Taylor, is forgettable, but short, so at least she makes her sick point quickly.
Nancy A. Collins' "Thin Walls" will resonate with apartment dwellers everywhere.
Karl Edward Wagner's "Locked Away" is a fun psuedo-porn fantasy that made me chuckle more than a few times.
The book closes with Douglas E. Winter's "Loop", a tale of obsession taken to a WHOLE other level.
Dark Love is probably the BEST anthology I've even read. I highly recommend it.
Two stories in this anthology deserve to become classics.......1999-07-13
I remember buying this paperback at a Supermarket in Tampa, Florida during the sweltering August of 1996. I once heard that if you remember something it's important, and since I gave this book away to the library about a year ago, I can only talk about a couple of the stories that stayed with me. Probably me favorite two were "Loop" by Douglas E. Winter (I actually read that one in a dorm room in Austin, Texas) and "The End of It All" by Ed Gorman. I can't really comment on the rest.
"Loop" is crisp, concise writing--yet passionate. Winter tells the story of a lawyer who develops over the years an infatuation with an adult film actress. His intense details of American culture really bring to life this doomed "love story."
"The End of It All" reads like an NBC TV Movie of the Week--but with a more focused story and a much sharper edge; the writing is so economical I compare it to a newspaper article. Gorman's impartial and blunt matter-of-fact writing style really got me excited about the short story medium again. Reading this will shock you, and impress.
On a Saturday night this summer, or any summer, staying home and reading these two stories will be much more rewarding than even going to a movie. They are that entertaining, not to mention provocative.
AN HORROR ANTHOLOGY EXPLORING THE DARK SIDE OF LOVE.......1996-06-12
A collection of dark fantasy exploring the relationship between sex and horror with contributions by prestigious authors renowned in the field. The quality of the stories is uneven and the volume includes a few excellent tales as well as some ordinary stuff.
The book starts with a long-awaited brand new story by Stephen King ("Lunch at the Gotham Cafe'") The following tales are by Kathe Koja, who tells the life story of a sexually unsatiable ballerina and by british author Basil Copper ("Gleading blades") who provides a new, disquiteting atmosphere to the time-honored theme of the serial killer.
In Ramsey Campbell's "Going under" the cellular phone becomes the instrument of modern horror while in the late Karl Edgar Wagner's "Locked away" the forbidden sexual fantasies of a long- dead woman come alive through an antique gold locket.
In "The end of it all" Ed Gorman recreates the atmosphere of the "film noir" of the 40s ,
while Douglas Winter ("Loop") perfectly balances horror with the sad after-taste of unfullfilled love dreams.

Can you fall in love with a vampire and survive?.......2005-11-09
Mignon was a slave who was turned into a vampire. Her master, Charles Rabelais, changed her a couple of centuries ago, and she's never forgiven him nor forgotten it. In BLOOD LUST by J. M Jeffries, we find her in the present time, still as angry with Charles as she was when he owned her. She's angry that he sold her children and that he has turned her into the undead. Charles has not changed over the centuries; indeed, if anything, he's worse. Mignon and her fellow vampires attempt to find Charles because they know he's doing evil.
New Orleans police detective Ryan Lattimore is searching for a serial killer in New Orleans' warehouse district when his path crosses Mignon's. Sparks fly as he admires the beautiful young woman, and she returns the lustful feelings. It is a star-crossed situation if there ever was one.
J. M. Jeffries has created an exciting novel that combines the natural with the supernatural. It is full of suspense, unexpected twists and turns, and even as you acknowledge that it is pure fantasy, you find yourself becoming a true believer in vampirism. This book makes you sit on the edge of your seat as you flip the pages, wondering what on earth can possibly happen next. Even those who are not big romance fans will find this a delightful, suspenseful read.

She's Gonna Hafta Write More!!!!.......2005-10-28
This is a really great story with much potential for a even greater series. I look forward to reading what she does with the other male vampires in this book. It one of those books that was hard for me to put down!!!
Blood Lust- A Woman Scorned.......2005-10-14
Mignon DuPlessis is `a woman scorned' personified! Although a man didn't scorn her in the traditional way-she was transformed into a vampire after her slave owner, Charles Rabelais, sold her children to a brothel. And hundreds of years later Mignon is still pissed!
Charles is obsessed with Mignon and is determined to win her back. To get Mignon's attention and to satisfy his lust for power Charles has broken the Praetorium's rule and has sold vampire secrets to the United States government under the pretense of helping them create a vampire army to fight terrorists.
The Venators are responsible for keeping the peace between vampires and humans and as one of them, Mignon now has another reason to hunt Charles down and kill him. It has been discovered that Charles is transforming criminals into vampires in the hopes of building his own army. This sends Mignon to the morgue, where the dead bodies of the criminals have been shipped. Her job is to kill the criminals again before they are reborn as vampires.
Ryan Lattimore is a New Orleans detective assigned to the case of discovering who is beheading the already dead people in the morgue. When he interrupts Mignon in her attempt to wipe out Charles' vampire army, he's introduced to a world he never thought existed.
J.M. Jefferies weaves a wonderful tale of the dark life of vampires, entwining it with human morals and tribulations. I thoroughly enjoyed the flashbacks into Mignon's life from the time she rescued her children up until the time that she met Martin Luther King, Jr. This tale was told in such a way that it had me looking twice at people on the street wondering if they too were vampires! Even if you are not into vampires or romance, for that matter, this is a great read as it keeps your mind so busy that you can hardly tell where one plot ends and another picks up. I would definitely recommend this book for your keeper shelf.

action-packed vampire romantic police procedural thriller .......2005-10-07
In 1745 Martinique, Master Charles Rabelais informs his slave Mignon Du Plessis that he sold their two preadolescent children. Distraught, but unable to do anything about his atrocity, Mignon is forced to endure the sexual needs of her owner who reveals fangs and bites her neck.
In present day New Orleans, police Detective Ryan Lattimore his superior and another cop stake out the city morgue in an attempt to capture the "Vampire Slayer". Suddenly a beautiful woman enters with an axe. He tries to intercede, but stops when he sees corpses begin to rise. She decapitates them before trying a chanting spell on the cop that shockingly fails. She drives away from the area while Ryan remains stunned.
Mignon is upset that he had not caught Charles because of the cop's involvement, which interfered with her assignment from the Vampire ruling Praetorium council to kill him. As she continues her work, Ryan catches up with Mignon who takes him into an underworld he never imagined existed even as the mortal and the vampire are attracted to one another, an impossible scenario.
This action-packed vampire romantic police procedural thriller rotates between the present and the 1740s with most of the emphasis on today though the past provides deep insight into the motivation of the heroine and the lunacy of Charles. The story line moves at a lightning fast-pace, but the key cast members are fully developed including the ruling pro-life council; readers especially can feel the desire between the mortal cop and the bloodsucker, seemingly forbidden fruits. Readers will believe that vampires exist in this fine tale that makes the supernatural species seem genuine as they live amongst us life short-timers.

4.5 Stars!.......2005-09-12
In 1745 Mignon Du Plessis had been a black slave. Her white owner, Charles Rabelais changed Mignon into a vampire so he could keep her forever. But history shows us that times change. In New Orleans, where most of this story is set, Charles Rabelais is a rogue vampire, being hunted by his brethren. Charles is out to turn all the dangerous mortal criminals into vampires. Mignon is a member of "the Praetorium". (This is like a vampire government.) The Praetorium was formed long ago to protect the vampires from the humans. A sect of this organization is the "the Venator". A Venator protects the humans from the bad vampires. These vampires hunt down and execute rogue vampires. Mignon is such a being. She has orders from the Praetorium to hunt down and execute Charles. She has two other Hunters with her, Solomon ben Zafir and Maximus Severus. The three go hunting each night to exterminate the vampires that Charles has recently created. No one uses guns in these fights. They would not work anyway. Executions are done with all different types of blade weapons.
Detective Ryan Lattimore is a former Special Forces Operative. He does not get paid much at the New Orleans Police Department, but he believes in justice. Lieutenant Barton, his boss, has him staking out the county morgue. Someone has been going into the cold room and decapitating the dead bodies. This is how he meets the babe with the axe! He believes she is crazy and is about to try to arrest her when the dead bodies begin coming to life. Mignon ends up saving his life from the new vampires Charles had made that day. Mignon tries to enchant Ryan into forgetting everything, but he is a rare type of mortal that is immune to vampire enchantments. Of course, Ryan cannot tell his boss the truth of what happened in the morgue that night. So Ryan lets his boss think he was sloppy in his job that night. But Ryan refuses to just forget all he has seen. He shows up at the home of Lucas Du Plessis, a descendant of Mignon. Surprisingly, Lucas has been expecting Ryan and escorts him to Mignon. Ryan and Mignon are attracted to each other, yet neither trusts the other either. Ryan cannot arrest Mignon for killing someone who is already dead and the stories Mignon is filling his head with are straight out of a "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" show. It is all unbelievable ... at least it was until he began to see it all for himself.
Mignon and her two partners begin teaching Ryan to fight with blade weapons. The only way to convince Ryan that what they say is true, is to show it to him and let him experience it all himself. The Praetorium rule is to kill any mortal immune to enchantment in order to protect the brethren. Yet Mignon finds herself reluctant to kill Ryan. He is not evil. In a way, they are on the same side, the side of Justice. So Mignon teaches Ryan. Once Charles has been taken care of she can decide whether to kill Ryan or not.
Things become much more complicated when a secret branch of the U.S. Department of Defense begins popping up. They are after Charles, but once they learn of Mignon they decide to capture her too. They call themselves "The Vamp Squad". They plan to recruit vampires into becoming a special military group that would deal with terrorism. All the Vamp Squad members are immune to vampire enchantments. One member, Ursula Carlson, is undercover in the NOPD. She is pretending to be with the FBI and out to help Ryan with his case.
***** If you love dark romance blended together with vampires, then this book has been taylor made just for you! Author J.M. Jeffries is a team of two authors who have proven themselves to be dark masters of the underworld. Do not let the cover fool you. No matter what race or background you are, you will find yourself sucked into this story and engrossed in the believable tale that will weave itself before your eyes. Mignon is a lady that you cannot help but cheer on as she fights for what is right. I not only recommend this title to those who enjoy vampire romances, I strong urge them to buy this book! *****
