Caillou the Birthday Party.......2007-05-13
This is a great book for Caillou lovers. My 3yr old son loved reading this story and the stickers were the best part!
very good book.......2007-02-12
I like all the Caillou books. They are wordy but you can skip some of the sentences if your toddler is too young and wants to read more books before bedtime. This is a book you can use for a few years at least.

Nothing is perfect.......2007-07-12
This is a DIY book from Haynes - what more is there to say. I didn't give it 5 stars because nothing is perfect - this is very close. A definite "BUY".
Descriptive and informative, but generic........2006-09-16
I purchased this manual as a reference guide for my GY6 based scooter. The manual is typical Haynes, with many black and white photos, and fairly detailed instructions of common service tasks. The manual tries to cover 4 different brands, and many, many models over many years. It has most of what I need; troubleshooting, disassembly, lubrication instructions, and some helpful exploded diagrams. If you buy this book, be sure to have an original or aftermarket owners manual for your scooter as well, because you will need it. If you are already a fairly competent mechanic that has worked on scooters or motorcycles before, you may not get too much from this book. If you have never maintained a motorcycle, or are not familiar with the operation of CVT transmissions, small engines, etc., buy it.
Book Description
In the beginning, there was the Big Bang, the molten masses cooled and the galaxies formed, life emerged from the seas, humans developed, and in 1902 the first motorscooter was created. It began with a Big Bang. It continues with a putt-putt. Scooters are funny. They are mechanical marvels on two wheels. Streamlined spuds. Mutant oddballs of Jet Age styling gone berserk. Innovative inventions shoehorned like sardines into miniaturized monocoque bodies. Engineering and styling enigmas, the stranger the better. They are two-wheeled pogo sticks, Italian hairdryers, Pushmans, dustbins on wheels, motorized lemons. Their names can be swear words, or their names can be uttered in worship by the faithful. They are the weird and the wonderful. They are the cute, the quaint, and the curious. Throughout the ages, motorscooters have meant different things to different folk. Scoots have been cheap transportation for people without enough pennies for a car. They have been rebellious hot rods for misunderstood Wild Ones. They have carried lovers and warriors, priests and poets, and many a movie star. Explaining what inspires the scooter faithful ain't easy either. Tell a pal you like scoots and some hoot, some holler, most all smirk. Others nod, and immediately launch into a dialectical discussion of the brake swept area on the first generation of 98cc Vespas. Explanation is not needed. If you have to ask, you just ain't gonna understand·and most Harley-Davidson folk don't have a clue what we're talking here. The Scooter Bible is a colorful, authoritative, and ultimate history of the little motorbikes that could. Starting from the first scooter craze nearly a century ago, the authors chronicle the American scooter boom, the golden age of scooters, and the rise of the Mods in England. Today, nostalgia for Vespas, Cushmans, and Lambrettas is driving a new thirst for cool scooters in motorcycle dealer showrooms. This compendium of all things scooterific includes a comprehensive marque-by-marque encyclopedia of scooters.

Scooter Bible.......2007-01-15
This was a gift to a friend who restores Cushman scooters, he was very happy to receive a book that had several pictures & articles concerning Cushman scooters. He was so pleased with this book, he showed it to several of his "scooter friends" & they are also going to buy it!
Book Description
In the fashion capitols of the world, the Vespa motorscooter is a necessary lifestyle accessory. And those who are not Vespa owners are Vespa admirers. From the classic romance of Roman Holiday to the defiant non-conformity of the Mod and Punk scenes, and today's hipsters, the Vespa has become an icon of adventure, style, and "coolness." Like so much Italian design, the Vespa's form is sensual and sleek, and even after 60 years, its retro lines continue to seduce and excite. This eco-friendly darling of fashionistas and celebrities (Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert DeNiro, and Lenny Kravitz all have one) is the perfect antidote to city congestion, and makes getting to your next gallery opening, movie premier, or market, fast and fun.Vespa is a celebration of the scooter's history. Containing over 200 images, the book covers the technical evolution of the Vespa-first built in 1946 by the aircraft manufacturer Piaggio-through 138 successive models and versions (including the short-lived Vespa car). The book is also a look at the iconic vehicle's significant role in society and its impact on popular culture through today. Vintage advertising, copiously reproduced throughout this treasure trove of all things Vespa, embodies the uniqely European aesthetic and Italian vitality that is at once exotic and familiar to everyone.

really neat book.......2007-04-18
I got the book as a birthday present for a friend who owns a 1968 vespa. Compared to all the other Vespa books, this had the best combination of vespa-nerd technical information and great historical content -- not just about the development of the scooter, but about how it affected people around the world. I also love the "pillowy" cover, which makes the book not just visually entertaining (so many great photos), but, also just holding it is a great tactile experience.
Book Description
Keith Weighill has many years of experience working with motorcycles, both in the trade and as a former lecturer in motorcycle engineering at Merton College. His book provides the DIY mechanic with procedures and useful advice on servicing and minor repairs.
The book is divided into six chapters covering: Tools, Service schedule, Engine procedures, Chassis, Electrics and Accessories.
Customer Reviews:
Usefull But Not The Best Choice.......2007-09-09
The book has detailed and well written procedures for doing most repairs as it promises. It also has color photos which are very helpful. However, if you are new to working on your bike, I recommend that you get The Essential Guide to Motorcycle Maintenance or a similar book which will teach you about the mechanics of motorcycles plus the repair manual specific to your bike. This combination has worked well for me.

Book Description
A powerfully moving new novel from Mick Foley, filled with the same heart and imagination that made Tietam Brown so distinctive (“It makes you laugh so hard sometimes it makes you cry” —Chicago Tribune).
The time is 1969. Scooter Riley is a regular kid growing up in the Bronx, on Shakespeare Avenue, just north of Yankee Stadium. His father, Patrick Riley, is a New York City cop; his beat is Harlem, streets that are getting rougher by the day in the wake of the assassinations of Dr. King and Bobby Kennedy. Riley’s Spartan code of ethics and unwavering sense of duty to his neighborhood and the Force will carry him through; neither homicide nor drugs are going to get in his way, even if his wife does want them to get the hell out of the Bronx and for him to take a “safe” job somewhere in the suburbs. He’s happy with things as they are and wants to make time stand still, going to Yankee games in the neighborhood as he did growing up (as a boy he’d waited for hours to meet Joe D.—the great Yankee Clipper—and collected two decades of Yankee autographs of Yogi, Larson, Lopat, Mantle, too; on yearbooks, scorecards, ticket stubs, Spaldeens). Riley wants his son, Scooter—named after Yankee shortstop Phil Rizzuto, MVP, 1950—to have a childhood just like his own.
Scooter doesn’t get the same thrill his father gets from going to Yankee Stadium and watching the players “punch it through the hole,” or “spray it all around.” He loves his father but yearns for his own style—in baseball and in life.
His grandfather, a fireman for thirty years and horribly scarred, harbors a dark secret that has caused a deep rift between him and Scooter’s dad. Scooter’s grandfather sees the game of baseball as the game of life itself—to him all of life’s great lessons are explained in baseball lore, and he teaches Scooter to play the game in a way that’s different from how his father wants him to play. He teaches Scooter as well that life can be defined in a few extraordinary moments—moments of courage, of cowardice—when the ability to act, or not, defines who you are, and who you will become.
Into this world, a world that becomes increasingly less kind to Scooter, the defining moments his grandfather has warned him about come at a rapid pace, and as the years pass and Scooter grows up, it is through baseball, and its timeless rhythms, that the defining moments in Scooter’s life are played out—and that the boy he is now, and the young man he will become, are shaped.

Mick Foley Is My New Favorite Writer!.......2007-07-15
To date I have read all of Mick Foley's books. I have enjoyed each of them. They cover a wide range from children's books and novels, to memoirs. Each book, and this one is no exception, are easy to read and you easily begin to genuinely care for the characters. There is a smooth, almost conversational, tone to the books. Thanks Mick!
wow.........................2006-02-20
I got this book mainly because Mick Foley wrote it and I have a great deal of respect for him due to his wrestling career. At the point I got the book I didn't read alot, and when I did I almost never finished the book. I picked up Scooter and everything changed!
It conatins the story of a kid growing up in the South Bronx at the point right before and during its downfall. It told me alot about New York City and some interesting Yankees information. This book really makes you root for the hero and at times it makes you want to jump into that story and help Scooter out!
It is very real as well. It deals with how life really is, at first it seems like the story shouldn't be done and after a whiel you realize that life is really like how it is in the book (you really need to know the end to understand what I mean).
This is a very good read and also very addicting. I suggest you take a day of two off of work to read it so you can truly focus on it. Scooter is well worth the 20 bucks to buy it, and if you can't afford it, get it from the library!
Not quite great, but pretty close.......2006-01-29
Having read (and loved) Foley's 'Tietam Brown', I had no idea what to expect, but I couldn't wait to read this book. Foley accomplished a lot with 'Scooter', maybe even too much.
Like 'Tietam Brown', 'Scooter' is the story of a boy and his family. However, this isn't a 'Happy Days' family. This family has a load of problems and unfortunately, poor Scooter bears the brunt of the load. Wherever Scooter turns in his family, he finds problems and pain.
Still Scooter grows up and we follow him through more pain. He does have his share of successes along the way, but the torment seems to be there all of the time.
It is a gripping story, but somehow I was a bit disappointed. Maybe I expected too much or maybe Foley attempted too much. After a while, some of the events in Scooter's life seem to make this tale too unrealistic, even as fiction. Scooter is the type of character which can easily be revisited in another book, which is maybe where some of the parts of 'Scooter' should have been placed.
If you can suspend your belief just a bit, you will totally enjoy this book.
Warm, Heavy on the baseball........2005-10-19
This book is a warm, relatively light read, but heavily references baseball throughout. If you aren't into baseball, which some find the most boring sport on earth, this tends to get in the way of the rest of the story.
Foley tells a great story.......2005-09-21
Mick Foley may not be Frost or Hemmingway or King or Patterson...but Scooter tells a great story.
Again, Foley may not show up on any College Literature Course's required reading, but he has a knack for bring sincerity and believe-ability to a story when telling it from the point of view of a confused and angry teenager.
He also offers many plot twists and revelations; most- I would bet - would be considered unpredictable by even the best-read fiction collectors.
I wasn't pleased-to-death with the ending, but it hardly killed the story. The book had to end 'somewhere', and Foley did a fabulous job of wrapping things up and putting them away.
If you like baseball, and can appreciate a story told from a teenager's point of view, you will very much enjoy 'Scooter'.

Great Scootering Information.......2007-08-13
Even though this book is written for an English audience, many of the chapters give great information on subjects like: what scooter to purchase, the differences between 2 and 4 stroke engines, how to get more power and derestrict a 50cc motor, different clothing for scootering, scooter accessories, performance parts, and securing your scooter. The chapters are very organised and show many different scoots from different manufacturers.
Not for the US but Good enough for Singapore.......2006-10-28
I'm a complete newbie to scooters and my first ride after acquiring my license is a brand new Piaggio X8 200. After going through the book, I'm very satisfied with the information provided in the book, especially the areas on maintenance. It has helped me to troubleshoot some of the problems I had experienced when I got my scooter. The book is rich in colour photographs and very detailed information on how the scooter works. It has helped me understand how the scooter works and what to do when I encounter specific problems. The most important thing is that it helped me to gain enough confidence to actually attempt some of the simpler maintenance and servicing myself like oil and coolant top ups.
This book is also good for people who want to make an informed decision when selecting the best scooter for themselves, it covers a wide variety of topics ranging from the different types of scooters, accessories and clothing.
For the complete beginner rider, this book is invaluable. I highly recommend it to Singapore riders!
Not for the US!.......2005-12-15
This guide is written for the UK market only & contains chapters on the UK M test, MOT, Road Tax and insurance, none of which have any relevance to a non-UK rider. It does not cover any scooters at the 150cc level but jumps straight from the 125s to "Super Scooters" (I think the UK has a 125cc learner limit). Most of the models and makes covered are not even available in the US. The rest of the information is very basic (how a 4-stroke works) & could be easily gleaned from some Google searches. Pretty disapointing really.

Great Step-by-step Instructions w/ Pictures.......2000-07-05
I found this manual a great resource when replacing the front fender on my 1979 p125x. Though some of the technical names for the simplest of parts was slightly difficult to decifer, the pictures and helpful hints the manual gave led me through this first-time disassembly of my Vespa. A great buy ...

Very well done.......2007-10-09
Wow, what a great introduction to scooters! This book has all of the information one needs for someone who is considering buying a scooter or who is just starting out. Even better, it is well-written, practical, and concise. It has a good balance of information on various aspects, such as safety, maintenance, customization, scooter jargon, and social networking. It includes useful pictures, including some unique scooters, as well as specifications for many makes and models. My only quibble, and it is a minor one, is that I found it a bit confusing that the chapter on Protective Clothing was included in the Fun Stuff section, while the chapter on Customizing Your Scooter was included in the What to Expect section. The placement of the chapters seems to be flip-flopped. Nevertheless, I would strongly recommend this guide to anyone who is fairly new to scooters.
Nursery school for bikers 101.......2007-09-06
Granted, if one had never had ANY experience with two wheel transportation this could be enlightening.
Idiots Guide is a great start before you buy a scooter........2007-08-23
I think nearly 40% of the book gives specs and costs on the BETTER scooters on the market. I would endorse all of their suggestions. If you haven't done your research, you can really get burned on a scooter purchase today. China is flooding the market with very cheap scoots so you can either do a lot of front end research or get burned and end up with a disappointment lying in your garage. This book is part of that research. It does NOT however teach you all the maintenance ins-and-outs so don't expect it to be your pocket mechanix guide. If you haven't bought your scooter yet, this is an excellent first read.
Do you want to know about scootering.......2007-08-14
There are differences between motorcycling and scootering and I think the authors helped fill this gap. There's some good starter information here as well as details useful for a regular rider.
Idiots on scooters.......2007-07-14
Not quite. If you had never seen a scooter this might contain some useful information, but I felt (perhaps unreasonably) that it really was too simple. This would not leave a beginner, or idiot, really having much idea what to do next. I also felt that the list of bikes at the end was incomplete, but then I don't come from the USA, and it may be accurate for you. However it was at least up to date unlike some other books on the market.
Book Description
Taking advantage of a hot new trend in cities big and small, this book includes information on scooter history, culture, and celebrities...plus "how to buy" tips and info.
The Scooter Book is a wonderfully fun, retro-hip book that aims to take advantage of a hot new trend in cities big and small; this book includes information on scooter history, culture, and celebrities, plus "how to buy" tips and info. It includes more than 150 colorful photos of scooters, including all the top-selling models, plus period-evocative historical memorabilia from the 1950s and 1960s. The Scooter Book connects the hipster nostalgia of the scooter to today's modern life. Lifelong rider and writer, the author, Bob Woods, takes readers on a zippy ride through scooter history, stopping off to see how World War II, Audrey Hepburn, and the Who have all played a part in this reoccurring transportation trend. He also tells how to maintain, repair, and care for a scooter and scooter-related gear.

Active scooterist.......2007-01-10
This book was very informative, especially for beginning riders. Most of it was pretty basic information, but interesting. Overall, an easy-to-read interesting book.
not worth much -- except for the photos.......2005-07-21
This book consists of a very superficial history of the scooter and its current comeback. Its selling point would seem to be the numerous photos, which dwarf the text. If you typed "scooter club" or "scooter shop" or "scooters" into Google, you would locate most of the useful information. The care and maintenance section is about two pages in length and includes tips such as: "change your oil after 3,000 miles." There are no "how-to" sections, this book will not help you repair your scooter and doesn't offer much in the way of buying strategies, where you might find used scooters, etc. Buy it used if you must read it.
More like 2.5 start- good effort but many errors.......2004-06-25
While this book makes an earnest attempt to cover the ever-expanding world of motorscooters, it is marred by errors that make it seem rushed and not researched enough.
Mr. Woods should be congratulated for creating a book that gives a good scope and overview of the machines and culture of scootering. His inclusion of magazines like Scoot! Quarterly and a list of scooter clubs will make many new scooterists feel more at ease about joining the scootering scene. The book also contains lots of interesting photos.
Yet, there are many errors. For example, there are quite a few simple errors such as references to incorrect page numbers. One caption lists an illustration as being from the 50's when it was actually created by a current, practicing artist. In his history of Vespa, the author confuses the founder of Piaggio with his son. I list these as examples of how the book escaped some critical editing and thorough fact checking.
If you are a scootering enthusiast, you may find this book lacking. If you are interested in getting into scootering and don't know much about it, you may find this book to be inspiring and welcoming. Amazon has it at a good price, so its worth adding to your collection.
Disappointed..........2004-06-17
Any book on scooters is a good book. However, comparable to other scooter books I own, this one is superficial and not very informative.
I don't even have a Scooter.......2004-06-12
But I wish I did. I bought this book because I've been thinking of getting a scooter for a long while now, but never got round to it. Well now I'm convinced. This is a great book that tells me everything I need to know to decide what to buy, and even where to buy it. It also has lots of information on how to look after it once I've bought a scoot. A fun, hip book.
