Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description

Set in the Vermont countryside, Water Witches is a tale of the clash between progress and tradition, science and magic. In the midst of a nightmarish New England drought, cynical ski industry lobbyist Scottie Winston is trying to get a large ski resort the permits it needs to tap already beleaguered rivers for snow. His wife, his little girl, and his sister-in-law -- dowsers or "water witches" all -- hope to stop him, however, in this gentle, comic, life-affirming novel.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Predictable.......2007-07-12

I liked learning more about Vermont, but was disappointed with the predictable way the story progressed. I was also disappointed by the flatness of the characters. I couldn't relate to the wife or daughter because they were like "stepford" characters...way too perfect. I often felt as I was learning about how smart, pretty, and sweet they were that they were nothing but ornaments for the main character...a way to further convince us that he wasn't just an ordinary "Joe." Too bad. Real people are much more interesting than paragons of "cool."

3 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2007-04-11

While this book starts strong, it loses momentum and leaves you wishing that the end would come soon.

1 out of 5 stars Cape Cod Reader.......2006-05-30

Sadly, this was my introduction to Chris Bohjalian's work. His work came highly recommended, but I found Water Witches quite silly; the subject matter almost laughable. Reading it, I felt like a disinterested observer; hoping something interesting would happen. Except for Scottie, the characters were unlikeable. The story was too predictable, and I sincerely wished the ending - as foreshadowed early in the book - would have turned out differently. I took nothing away from this book, except that I felt had.

3 out of 5 stars Not his best, but interesting.......2005-10-07

I am a huge fan of Bohjalian's "Midwives" and could not wait to read this book. While it is not his best (in my humble opinion) it is certainly worth the time to read it. The sisters' problem with the community is a wonderful statement on the difficulties of being different in today's society. What truelly continues to amaze me is that Bohjalian speaks through a woman's eyes so knowingly, hard to believe it is written by a man.

5 out of 5 stars A loving portrayal of Vermont life.......2004-09-15

Chris Bohjalian is a truly amazing storyteller. Once again, he has created a book of wonderfully quirky characters, lovingly (and with humor) portraying life in his adopted home of Vermont. In this book, the reader is forced to explore his/her views on the environment, nature, and "progress."

Book Description

Witches and other seekers are often striving to customize and deepen their spiritual practice. One way to revolutionize your path is through the elements: earth, air, fire, and water.

Are you an Earth Witch or an Air Witch? Beginning with how to identify your personal element, the author outlines the specialties and personality quirks of each kind of elemental Witch. A detailed discussion of folklore and associated deities gives depth and color to each element's unique history. The rest of this practical text is dedicated to working magic with a particular element, while maintaining balance with all four. Magical correspondences are provided for each element, in addition to associated crystals, stones, herbs, colors, creatures, and aspects of nature (rivers, trees, caves, wind, lightning, etc.).

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Thank You!.......2007-10-08

Easily read and absorbed although unfortunately abbreviated. This book was the first one that put a name to my practice and I am forever grateful that this book exists at all.
It is geared toward people who work with the elements but does not really draw any lines as to create some ficticious dogma in order for an amateur to understand. I felt that although it was easily read there was a lot to absorb for someone who has taken the time to explore their own path rather than copy another's. I found this book to be particularly affirming in that regard and did not feel at all inclined to take the authors advice on some things but others I felt were spot on.
I would certainly not suggest this for anyone who is merely exploring but it is most certainly one of the most basic 'advanced' books now on my shelf.
I am now exploring a similar vein with other authors for a more in depth book, but this will certainly remain a favorite.

5 out of 5 stars "User Friendly" Guide to Your Element.......2007-08-31

The title is what caught my eye. We all have an element that attracts us. It is very "user friendly." It has some beginner stuff, but the info is interesting. The author also states that this book is not "the know all, be all" on the subject, which to me was refreshing to see.

The chapters are set up with info on different Gods/Goddesses, herbs, some spells, floor washes and info on creatures. It has a little Santeria, Voodun, Native American, Roman, Celtic, etc.

If you want to find out more about your element, this may be a book worth getting.

4 out of 5 stars An Enjoyable Read........2007-03-01

I really enjoyed reading this book. You can read it fairly quickly and still get a lot of information from it. Although I recommend this book, it unfortunately has a few problems. As with most Llewellyn publications, it could use a good editor. It is, overall, well written, but a few of the sentences are akward. Another problem it shares with the vast majority of llewellyn books is the lack of footnotes. This can be quite frustrating to some of us who would like to verify some of the more outlandish statements. For instance, the author writes that sylphs are "thought to be the offspring of the Sidhe". I have never heard this before and it seems rather unlikely and I would like to know the source of this information.

Another problem with the book is in the Gods of the elements sections. I feel that it relies too heavily on non-western deities. I found the information interesting but not practical as I don't think it is ethical to use the deities of Native American and African peoples because of the crimes European Americans have commited against them. But if you don't feel the same way, of course, this issue won't be a problem for you. There are also a lot of inaccuracies in these sections. Sedna is called a "Native American" goddess, when in fact she is Inuit--whose people live all over the far north, not just america. Another mistake is when the author says that in Ireland "Brighid's snake appearing from its mound" is a cousin of the american groundhog weather prediction traditon. The problem is that this custom is from Scottland, not Ireland--the Emerald Isle seperated form Europe quite early and has no indigenous snakes.

You may accuse me of nit-picking but I do think that it is time for pagan literature to grow up and stop spreading misinformation. If the mythological sections contain so many mistakes how do I have trust in the magical information the book provides?

I feel that this should not be a person's first book on witchcraft because not all the elemental correspondences are the ones that are most widely used. The season correspondences the author lists are very different from the traditonal. To the authors credit she does tell you to use the correspondences that you feel comfortable with.

So while I don't recommend this book to absolute beginners, I do think this book has a lot to offer, especailly in trying to figure out which elements you resonate with. It also provides good ideas for incorporating the elements in your practice. I really did enjoy reading this book, and I hope that one day Llewellyn and other Pagan friendly publishers will start providing better editors for their authors.

4 out of 5 stars Good Beginners Guide on the Elements.......2006-09-20

The practice of the Witch relies on sources of energy for the workings. A good witch can draw upon the elemental energies for her use and knows the properties well and how to use them best.

Ms. Sullivan's book examines closely the properties of each of the four elements and gives a good rounded education in their history, associations and applications.

The book is broken down into each element and then breaks it own further into the path of each element, the magics and then Deity associations. There is lore, spells, recipes and herbal and stone associations.

What is nice about this book is that is does offer information on all four elements, and gives the beginning practitioner a well rounded education. And while you may find you have a preference for one or two elements, this book will give you a good look at working with all four.

This is a nice book, easy to read and understand and provides the basics for anyone looking at the practice of witchcraft using the four elements as focus. boudica

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars 2nd of the Diana Tregarde mysteries - wonderfully exciting and scary!.......2006-12-30

This is the second Diana Tregarde books - after "Children of the Night" - and it is a terrific book. In it, Diana is called to Texas by her old friend Mark Valdez, to investigate a grisly series of murders and animal mutilation. At first stymied, she eventually learns that someone is apparently trying to call down the old Aztec god known in English as Smoking Mirror and is calling himself Burning Water. This is a fascinating book, bringing in aspects of Aztec and Mestizo culture as well as referring to the older culture of the Toltecs. Lots of near scrapes for Diana makes this one a quick read. A must-have in the library of anyone who likes Mercedes Lackey in general, who enjoyed the earlier Anita Blake books and/or the new works by Kim Harrison.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting...but slow.......2006-11-30

It took two tries to get into the book inorder to finish it. It starts off the slowest of any Mercedes Lackey book. However that said it's very interesting with the Aztecs/Incans byline and the second half of the book is very good. Her other Diana Tregarde book, Children of the Night is much better.

I did find it odd that the story takes place in the 90's until I looked at the publication date in that same decade. I had never heard of these novels until now.

1 out of 5 stars I wish I hadn't spent money on this one........2006-07-12

I read this a few years ago and it was terrible. The book in general is not very well written and I had to push myself to finish it. Every so often the book veers away from the plot so the preachy heroine can go on a goody goody witch rant. She's so annoying, I wanted to reach in the book and slap her. When I did finish it, instead of giving it away or keeping it-I threw it in the trash.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2006-01-25

I found this book to be pretty good. It is the first Horror novel that I've read. It took me a few pages to get into it. But, once it got going it was a fast entertaining read. The plot was predicatble, and it was just a matter of time before what I expected to happen to unfold. The ending however was a little bitter-sweet (perhaps to set up a sequel). I generally like happy endings, so it was a disapointment.

The characters were generally likeable and decent enough.

A couple of things that just bugged me were the author's use of "ack emma" and her pet name for American Airlines. I got hung up every time I saw them.

Overall, I enjoyed the book, and would read another by Mercedes Lackey.

1 out of 5 stars Ack Emma, Indeed........2005-08-17

Lackey should have been a TV writer in the 70's & 80's. This tripe plays out so much like Magnum PI, they actually mention the series several times in the book! You can almost hear the cheese music as the 'action' unfolds. Omigod, the dialogue is so bad (inane), I actually started highlighting certain bits to relate to my friends. After reading MR Sellars and now this (I actually only read half of this, it was so bad) I officially give up on Pagan fiction.

4 out of 5 stars A perfect airline book.......2002-12-11

Water Witch isn't big literature, but it provides an enjoyable few hours in another universe. Initially, the book gives you the impression that this will be fluffy entertainment, but it delivers much more. You bite into cotton candy and find, say, a lemon meringue pie. Just a *little* more depth than you'd expected.

The story is fairly simple, but it would be easy to spoil the plot; forgive me if I'm circumspect. Basically, Water Witch takes place on a planet, long since settled by humans, where water is rare; only a water witch -- someone who's genetically sensitive to water and can feel its presence -- can control the precious resource. However, of the water witches have died out and the current princess, as you learn in the first few pages, doesn't have very much talent. Despite the short-of-water theme, it's definitely not a Dune knockoff, as the alien planet has several well thought out ecological resources.

The story is told from two viewpoints: Deza, the daughter of a con man, and Radi, who's engaged to the last princess of the Red City. Naturally the whole thing is a setup for a love story, and it doesn't disappoint.

All of the above makes this sound like a very serious novel, but it's a done with a light hand and a sense of humor. The humor of real people rather than silliness or laugh-out-loud escapades.

While the story doesn't have the interwoven zanyness that Willis accomplishes so well in her later work (which always makes me think of Katherine Hepburn movies like Bringing Up Baby), it does show signs of her development. The authors do a fine job of storytelling (sometimes you can tell whose hand was on the keyboard, so to speak, but it's rare), with more complex characters than in at least another one of their collaborations.

I enjoyed this book, and think it'd be a fine accompaniment on a long trip.

4 out of 5 stars Very entertaining, memorable........1999-09-09

I read this book some years ago and enjoyed it. I lost my copy and have been looking for another one ever since.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A return to my childhood.......2001-01-24

For years, I tried to get my hands on the first three books in this series. I read them when I was in the fifth grade in one weekend, driving my parents nuts because I didn't want to eat or sleep. I now teach fifth grade and often read the first book in the series, "The Witch's Sister", to my class. The only copy of this second book mysteriously disappered a couple of years ago, leaving my class to skip over to the final book in the first trilogy. I sincerely hope this book is released again so my students can enjoy the true nature of the set!

4 out of 5 stars The second book in a great trilogy.......1999-11-08

Contrary to a previous review, there *is* a sequel to this book. _Witch Water_ is the second of a trilogy of witch books by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, the first being _Witch's Sister_ and the third being _The Witch Herself_. Years later this series was continued in a second trilogy (_The Witch's Eye_, _Witch Weed_ and _The Witch Returns_), which was still good, but the first 3 are better.

4 out of 5 stars This book left me in suspense........1999-06-25

This book is a really good story but the end leaves you in total suspense and there is not a sequel. Otherwise it is a very good book.
