Customer Reviews:
Three terrific novellas.......2007-09-11
I was glad that these stories were available through reprints; else I would have had to buy 3 books separately (if I could find them). I have always enjoyed Linda Howard's books and I don't mind reading older books that are being reprinted. This seems to be the trend in publishing world today. These stories; Lake of Dreams White Out and Blue Moon are what I consider some her best stories. The first story, Lake of Dreams, was a bit different and White Out was my favorite of the three. Overall, I enjoyed all of the stories.
erotic and sensual tales...........2007-03-26
The hardback cover is what drew my eye to this book. I have never heard of the author before, and read the inside cover. I thought O.K. i'll give it a look and as I sat down to read the first story I was just amazed at the story that started to unfold right before me. I felt like I was right there. I could feel my body start to twitch and get warm all over as I read on. It was not graphic but deffinatly enough to not leave anything to the imagination. I was in LOVE. I was in love with the characters. The book puts you right there in the middle of everything and keeps you going to the end of the story. I love my erotic books and this is deffinatly one that is added to my list and I will be able to read on and on and on. and never get bored. I recommend this book for those that love erotic, romatic story lines with a little mystery. read this book you will not regret it.
Unlike any other romance novel.......2006-10-20
I thought this book by Linda Howard was exceptional. Although each story is a little short, Howard pulls it off excellently by not including too much irrelevant information. It makes you wonder whether soul mates do exist and leave the reader thinking about the book long after completion. I loved the first novel "Lake of Dreams" the best and read it twice within the same week.
Enjoyable.......2006-08-28
I don't usually read anthologies, because usually there is no depth to the stories and everything happens so quick that it makes it so unbelievable, but these stories were fairly decent. I did'nt think they were great, they were just ok. So if you like anthologies you might want to give it a try they just are not my cup of tea.
...Never talk to strangers.........2006-04-29
I'm a big Linda Howard fan and I really enjoyed this book. It is composed of three short stories...
Lake of Dreams.... When Thea has reoccuring nightmares she heads out to her family lake house to see if she can get over the fears. Fear of the man who makes love to her with a passion so great that it leaves her wanting more, and then kills her in her dreams. At the lake house she encounters a strange man. His name is Richard Chance. Just what is it about this man that seems so familiar? What is it that she sees in his blue green eyes that call to her?
Blue Moon...When the sheriff gets a call that there was going to be trouble in the bayou, he skips his lunch and goes to investigate. And what he found was not what he expected. What he encounterd was a beautiful woman by the name of Lilah, having a shoot out with one of the towns people, Thaniel.
Thaniel escapes Jackson's capture, and in doing so, he takes all the boats and leaves him stranded with Lilah. With a thunderstorm coming and no place else to go, the night was just beginning.
White Out...In the middle of a blizzard the last thing that Hope was expecting was for someone to come pounding on her front door. What she thought was a bear, was indeed a half frozen man. When new on the radio say that there were escaped convicts on the run Hope is terrified that her new love interest may just be on of those dangerous men. What is she to do? Can she trust the man that she has come to love or will her doubt be the death of her?
All three stories were great but I really liked Lake of Dreams and White Out the most.

Every one of us with an ounce of imagination has wondered, at least once or twice, whether or not living things make their homes... up there. Life on other planets is simply too compelling a subject to let go, and so we spend hundreds of millions of dollars looking for its traces. This search has been documented by the father-son team of cosmochemist David E. Fisher and writer Marshall Jon Fisher with Strangers in the Night, a clever, scientifically rigorous look at the evidence and the explorers hoping to answer the question "Does intelligent life exist elsewhere (or anywhere) in the universe?"
From the lunar canals "discovered" by Schiaperelli in the 19th century to SETI to the Martian meteorite, the Fishers paint a picture of scientists struggling with the excitements and disappointments inherent to their work. Forced to draw inferences from the barest traces of indirect evidence, researchers from fields as diverse as oceanography, cosmology, and microbiology have banded together to develop the still-emerging discipline of exobiology. With a fair and competent assessment of the evidence, Strangers in the Night tells us that, though the answer to the question "are we alone?" is still elusive, we are coming ever closer and may just know for sure before long.

Do-be-do-be-do.......2000-03-29
An informative and engaging account of the history of the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. This is the sort of book that whets your appetite for more research and funding as well as for more information on the subject. I was particularly impressed with their style - clear, entertaining and thorough. It made me want to read more of their books, whatever the topic. A highly recommended book for folks interested in science but afraid of the math.

*GREAT*.......2006-07-22
Bought because of Susan Johnson and loved it! Sometime these quick HOT, HOT, HOT, stories are the best!
"pretty good".......2005-10-08
Pretty good anthology. All three stories were good but not great. Good enough to pass the time.
Just about to give up on anthologies until I found this one.......2005-03-06
Natural Attraction by Susan Johnson
To the fashionable world, Viscount Priestley is known for his utter lack of morals, his wicked wit, and his unfailing talent at seducing any woman who strikes his fancy-and then discarding her come morning. But the viscount has never met anyone like Nicky Wemyss. A woman who dresses as a man and immerses herself in science...who can eat and discourse with equal gusto...such a woman is more than an aphrodisiac-she is temptation itself. And the viscount makes it a habit never to resist temptation...
Fool Me Once by Katherine O'Neal
It's 1933, and Kate Frost is the most creative flim-flam artist in all of East London-until she meets her match in the ruthless, rakishly handsome Rhys. The seductive con man has a plan of his own: Under his careful tutelage, Kate will pose as a long-lost Aztec princess who will fool the world. But to become a goddess, she'll have to submit herself to his training completely, giving herself over to his every instruction, his every command, his every desire. But when two thieves fall prey to their own deceptions, there's no telling who is fooling whom...and who is no longer pretending at all...
A House East of Regent Street by Pam Rosenthal
The war with Napoleon over, seaman Jack Merion has turned his attentions and his newfound prize money toward real estate, specifically a house east of Regent Street that was once a fashionable brothel. Such a house could provide a generous allowance in rent. But someone else wants to buy the house, too. Like Jack, the mysterious Miss Myles has come up in the world the hard way, and she knows how to get what she wants. To gain the property, she's willing to meet all of Jack's terms-with pleasure-and Jack may just get an investment he never expected...
I've been avoiding anthologies but being a long-time fan of Susan Johnson and a recent, but loyal, fan of Pam Rosenthal, I decided to give this one a try. I'm glad I did.
Each one contained interesting (and extremely different) stories. I think I enjoyed Susan Johnson's story the best. Katherine O'Neil's contribution was the most original story. Pam Rosenthal's was extremely hot (perhaps over the top for those easily offended). All in all, a great historical anthology.
Customer Reviews:
Lots-a FUN!!.......2000-09-07
I thought this was a wonderful small collection of short stores. For one, I absolutely love Anne Stuart, and for two, dark and sensual gothic romances that are well-written are fabulous reads! I thought Anne Stuart's "Dark Journey" was wonderful. It was dark and sinister and the connection between Laura and Alex was just radiant. The plot was the best part, really, and her writing and use of words was very, very good. Now I thought Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's "Catching Dreams" was pretty good. It was not as good as the other two stories, however, but it was good. The beginning was captivating but as the story goes on, I think that maybe it could have used a little more spunk. But for the most part, the story was good and fun to read and the characters are rich and witty. "Beyond Twilight" by Maggie Shayne I think was my favorite. That is very hard for me to say because I have always been a HUGE Anne Stuart fan, but Ms. Shayne's short story was fabulous. Cuyler's sense of humor was so much fun as she strived to keep from seeing the dark side of things. My heart went out to her so many times in this story. She and Ramsey (though he was sent to destroy her) compliment each other so well with their personalities and connection. I was sad when this story ended. I would have been so happy had the story been a full novel. 5 Stars for "Beyond Twilight." All in all, these three authors are very, very talented, and so very much fun. They really add to the characters of their stories and makes it hard for a reader not to love them. This book is HIGHLY recommended!
4 stars for the first, 2 for the others........2000-07-03
I wasn't expecting these type of stories at all, I thought they would just be romances. I thought Dark Journey was the best, even though I had left it till last, because the premise sounded the worst. The other two stories didn't really impress me at all
Strangers in the Night.......2000-03-04
Maggie Shayne has a rare gift for turning words into gold. Strangers in the Night, is perfect for someone who enjoys romance with an exciting mix of twists, turns and events. This story is an interesting combination of romance, suspence and the supernatural which has the right combination to appeal to numerous types of readers.
This is the perfect book to read for Halloween week!.......1999-10-28
Sometimes, after working all day, I need quick stories to read. This book is perfect for those occasions. The stories by all three authors have just the right amount of scares and romance! Dark Journey, by Anne Stuart is probably the best of the 3, simply because of originality. Only the talented authors could write a story about death, and make it a romance. Read this book anytime, for scares, vampires, and even a "romantic" grim reaper!
DARK JOURNEY by Anne Stuart is an incredible novella!.......1999-01-12
Recently I dug out STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT and re-read Anne Stuart's novella 'Dark Journey.' It was every bit as good as I remembered it! I am often bitterly disappointed in my favorite authors' contributions to anthologies, but Ms. Stuart delivers with a wallop! Death and desire as only she can write it! If you loved the movie DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY, you HAVE to read 'Dark Journey.' It is well worth the price of the book for that story alone
Book Description
She vowed not to love the gunfighter who made her burn with desire....
A shivering cold angel...
Maura Reed was all alone in her Montana hotel, curled up in her robe and slippers, when the blizzard hit. It was cold, quiet, and lonely--until a rugged gunslinger blew in from the storm demanding shelter. Just for this night--this wild, stormy night--Maura wanted someone, something. Recklessly, she abandoned herself in his arms, knowing he would be gone by morning. The last thing she ever expected was the need that drove her into the wilderness . . . to find the stranger who haunted her dreams. . . .
A hot, dangerous devil...
He was the fastest gun in the West, a man who feared nothing until he met the woman who touched his heart. Quinn Lassiter didn't even recognize Maura when she cornered him in a distant saloon months later. Never in his wildest dreams did he see himself married--until he said the words that made her his wife. He was determined to do the right thing by the woman he'd wronged, but he'd never reckoned on falling in love with her. . . .
Customer Reviews:
WOW!!.......2007-09-21
This was the 2nd book i've read by jill gregory and so far the best. I absolutely loved this book. I couldnt put it down. It had everything you could want in a book; passion, romance, suspense, murder, and love. I cant wait to read more by her.
Cold Night, Warm Stranger.......2007-08-23
Cold Night, Warm Stranger is the best book I have read in quite some time. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down. At first glance it seems like any other Western romance, but it's unlike anything I've read recently.
First of all, Maura's transformation from shy, oppressed girl into fiery, independent woman is sudden, permanent, and very real. She turned away from her old life and never looked back. No wishy-washy frail flower here!
Quinn is a gorgeous hero. He may be jaded and hard on the outside, but inside he is tender and honorable and is truly the perfect man for Maura.
The chemistry in this book sizzles. The love scenes are full of passion and tenderness. The inner battles that Maura and Quinn both fight are real, not silly or contrived. Aside from the somewhat irritating and far-fetched subplot with the diamonds, the plot is smooth and seamless. The diamond subplot is irritating--much like the fly buzzing around your head at a picnic--but it is such a small part of the overall story that it doesn't really have the negative effect you might think.
The gunfights and danger only help characterize Quinn and Maura, and they really do add to the story.
If you want a beautiful love story filled with action, passion, and tenderness, do not pass this one by. It is wonderful!
the best romance i've ever read.. and i've read some romances!!.......2007-03-01
i would recommend this book to anyone! i was in love with everyone in the book very quickly. when i finished reading this book i was sad because it was over. im sure ill read it again though. theres also 2 books that follow this one. im waiting for them in the mail. if theyre half as good as cold night warm stranger ill be happy!!! THIS IS A MUST READ!!!! PAGE TURNER TO THE VERY END!!!!
Loved this book & the author..........2005-11-03
This is the 2nd book I've read from Jill Gregory & I rated both of them 5 stars. I love this author's simple style of writing. There were no dull spots for me. I couldn't put the book down for anything. There is plenty of stuff going on in this book to keep you glued. Usually at the end of a book I feel that there are some loose ends that weren't tied up & I'm left wondering what ever happened to some of the other characters. Not in this book. I'd have to say that this book had made it to my top 3 favorite books & I can't wait to read more from this author. Highly recommended!!!
Am I reading the same book? .......2005-08-20
Obviously reviewers haven't read steamy, heartfelt romance novels b/c this was not one of them.
This book is blah at best. I'm 3/4 of the way finished with it and I'm struggling. It's not a good sign when you leave the book on your nightstand for more than a few nights without any desire to pick it up and see what happens.
Nothing about this book held my interest. Not the plot, not the characters, not the writing....zilch.

Erotic, Horrific, Powerful.......2003-04-09
Once again, the Hot Blood series delivers on it's promise of exciting both your fear factor and erogenous zones simultaneously. While some of the stories are brilliant, such as "Jacking in", "Video Date", and "Godflesh", others drag a bit. But, even the worst story in Hot Blood: Stranger by Night is better than the other books and short stories out there. Just remember, if you share this book with someone you love, just hope they don't get too many ideas from it.... that could be down right scary.
HOT.......2000-04-08
I admit that I am new to reading erotic horror, but thus far I have enjoyed the Hot Blood series. I reccommend this book and any other from the Hot Blood series.

Strangers and The Voice Of The Night .......2006-06-10
I've read 26 Dean Koontz books, and while I haven't read The Mask, both Strangers and The Voice Of The Night are excellent. Strangers is about a handful of people from different parts of the country who are experiencing bizzare, frightening occurrences and obsessions that are ruining their lives after staying at the same hotel a year ago. They all meet up and uncover the truth about what happened to them.
In The Voice Of The Night, a shy, unpopular boy who is struggling with his parents' seperation befriends a sadistic boy who tries to get him to go along with him in games of death.
Some other great Koontz books that I recommend you check out are "Intensity", "Twilight Eyes", "Whispers", "Watchers", "The Servants Of Twilight", "The Door To December", "Cold Fire", and "Lightning".
Mike Crow "voices in The Night".......2001-11-02
The book I read was called "The Voice In The Night." It was about a boy named Colin and his best friend named Roy. Colin is about five feet twelve inches. Roy is alt stronger than Colin. Once they start telling eachother more about their lives Roy reveals something so outrageous Colin can't believe him.Since Colin refuses to believe him. Roy feels compelled to do it again. It takes place six miles out of town in a junkyard where no one is around. When Colin and ROy get into a argument about what Royt is trying to do things get very ugly. Since I don't want to give the ending of this book away I'll let you read it.
3 great tales.......2000-02-26
I liked all three of these books. A very good combination of Dean Koontz' tales. A must read for anyone interested in DK and his cross-genre books.
Not the greatest Kootnz has written.......1999-10-30
The book was very intriguing for the first 20 and last 50 pages, but the middled seemed to lose the reader in meaningless information. The antagonist of the story, Roy, was a great character. Pay close attention to him because you can never tell if you love him or hate him. Koontz did a great job with the characters in that aspect. The story line seemed to lack in something but it was an all around average book.
Can you spell Boring?.......1999-05-21
OK. Let me see here. This book was boring. Was also boring. And I can't forget to say that it was boring. And not to metion it's boringness. But overall this book was B-O-R-I-N-G. It should of been called STRANGERS:The book that will bore you to death.
