Book Description

The New York Times bestselling authors take a journey into the Cape Light of Christmas past.

As the citizens of Cape Light deck the halls for a Christmas to remember, the curmudgeonly Lillian Warwick has been confined to her bed with pneumonia. Cared for by her daughters, Emily and Jessica, she lets her thoughts drift back to the holiday season of 1955, to the magical time when she first met Oliver Warwick-the dashing man who would become her husband.

Back then, Lillian was beautiful, spirited, and idealistic, and Oliver was a wonderful man who took a real joy in living. As she recounts those romantic early days to her daughters and faces the mistakes she's made, she is reminded of a time when she had much to be grateful for-and of all the special gifts Christmas can bring.

And, to cap off this special, life-altering holiday season, there just might be a winter wedding on the horizon...

5 out of 5 stars Don't Hesitate to Read These Books!.......2007-05-06

I have read several books by Thomas Kinkade of this Cape Light series, including this one. While they are all related, you can pick up a random one and very easily know what is going on as the author will review the characters. I've read them out of sequence but it's been very easy to follow along. This one I especially enjoyed as I loved the flashbacks to Lillian's life. I guess the only thing I don't understand is that Lillian runs away against her parents' wishes to marry Oliver, and in another book in the series, her daughter Jessica marries someone against her wishes. You'd think she'd be more tolerant after what she went through with the estrangement from her parents.

I'd love to live in a town this close where everyone cares about each other and steps in when they are needed. While I'm not overly religious myself, these books have just enough religion in them that you don't feel like you're in church or being preached to. It's just comforting.....don't hesitate to read any of these books.

5 out of 5 stars great book.......2007-01-15

I have read all of Thomas Kinkadebooks. this book is one of the best.

4 out of 5 stars Another Great Tale from quaint Cape Light.......2007-01-09

Each book in this series features a different character in the quaint little New England town just North of Boston called Cape Light. Each story brings those characters to life, so you feel like you've gone back home to visit all your friends and relatives again. This particular story zeroes in on Lillian Warwick, the fiesty, often sarcastic grandmother of Emily, the town's mayor. She isn't your typical "warm, cuddly grandmotherly" type, that's for sure, but in this episode she's fallen down the attic stairs trying to retrieve a box of old photos and letters that are very precious to her. She winds up in the hospital, and needs a cast on one arm and one leg. As she's home recovering from her injuries the holiday season approaches. She does a lot of reminiscing about her youth as she re-reads those old letters and looks at the photos. The story keeps flashing back to the 1950's when she was a young woman, and you gain insight into this character's past. At the same time, you're enjoying all the preparations being made for the current holiday season, getting reacquainted with what's going on in the lives of all your other Cape Light friends. An excellent read, during the holiday season or any other time of the year. If you've read and enjoyed the previous Cape Light stories, you'll enjoy going back for another visit in the pages of this book. The last couple of pages get just a little too sappy for my taste, but otherwise - a truly excellent read!!

5 out of 5 stars Cape Light Series is the best!.......2007-01-09

I love the Cape Light series! This book is great!!!

5 out of 5 stars Delightful Kinkade/Spencer Book.......2007-01-05

Cape Light is a charming, friendly town filled with believable characters who lead normal, yet interesting lives. Although a work of fiction, these stories bring a feeling of home-coming the moment I open one of their books. Great fire-side reading for those of us who like enjoyable, clean, and posative Christian fiction. The romantic attractions of the book's characters makes it a great alternative to all who are tired of the usual romantic fiction, plus the Kinkade/Spencer series offer a bonus of having thought-provoking situations and Christian ethics included to give us something to mull on long after the last page of each novel.

Book Description

Thomas Kincade, also known as the "Painter of Light", is a true American phenomenon. Beloved by millions for his paintings, Thomas Kincade is often asked by his fans what kind of people inhabited his landscapes. Cape Light is the answer.

Thomas Kincade has become a modern-day Norman Rockwell, painting, in his words, "scenes that serve as places of refuge for battle-weary people." In this novel, he invites readers to enter a similar place of refuge: Cape Light. Nestled in Coastal New England, this picturesque little village is a seaside hamlet where folks still enjoy a strong sense of community, and everybody cares about their neighbors. they are friends and neighbors, doers and dreamers. They are the people who laugh and love and build their lives together in the town of Cape Light--and their story will capture readers' hearts forever.

4 out of 5 stars Cape Light.......2007-07-16

If you love the charactyer of seaside towns or a community that really understands the true meaning of community, then you will enjoy this book. A variety of events that happen in the town, as you get to know the characters you live through each experience with them.

Very enjoyable reading!

5 out of 5 stars A Gem In the World Of Fiction.......2007-04-29

I am so glad that I have found this lovely series of books! It is so refreshing to read some great fiction without tons of sex, violence and/or language filling the pages. These are gripping characters who keep the story alive without resorting to all of the 'junk' that a lot of today's authors turn to. I would not be concerned one bit if my small children read this book - it's just a good wholesome read with a little bit of God and faith thrown in (without shoving the Gospel down your throat).

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful collection of characters.......2006-10-24

This is an excellent series that depicts the characters in a small New England seaside town. The characters are alive and interactive. I have enjoyed each book in the series and look forward to more.
His books describe this little town and the people who live there as well as his paintings describe the cottages and the seashores, all with the wonderful light.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2006-07-01

I loved this book. It gives you hope. It was so wonderful I have read every other Cape Light novel by Thomas Kinkade and katherine Spencer. I am anxiously awaiting the new on that comes out in October of 2006.

1 out of 5 stars And you thought his art was bad.............2006-05-25

I am astounded to find out that Mr. Kinkade is even a worse author than he is a painter. This book is a perfect bathroom fit, not to read, but to wipe with.

Book Description

The spirit of the season is spreading through the rustic seaside hamlet of Cape Light, as the residents prepare to celebrate the joy of the holidays. But town mayor Emily receives an unexpected and precious Christmas gift when she finds a baby girl tucked away in a decorative cradle set up outside the church, with a note begging whoever discovers the child to take care of her.

Aside from signs that the baby's birth mother was a drug abuser, no one has any idea to whom the child may belong. As the police investigate, Emily is granted temporary custody of baby Jane. Having given up her own daughter years ago, she missed out on the many wonderful experiences that come with motherhood. And though she tries to be reasonable and mature about the situation, something about little Jane makes her feel that she was meant to find the baby and raise her as her own. But the changes an adoption would bring do not sit well with her husband, Dan, who has already struggled with the issues of raising children once in his life, and does not want that responsibility again. Now, in the midst of the year's most joyous season, Emily must come to terms with her duty to her family, her own feelings of regret and loss-and what her heart truly desires.

As with all of the Cape Light novels Thomas Kinkade brings the characters to light for a teary, jaw dropping, happy loving novel. All of the past characters are brought into this book so you don't forget anyone and we even meet a new one...who is painted perfectly, you just want to tell her to go home! A book you'll want to keep reading, then when it's over, you just want MORE! I can't wait to read the next one "A Christmas to Remember"

5 out of 5 stars Christmas Love.......2007-01-12

The book is written a bit like the Mitford Series in that it is a small united community with all the ups and downs of life. There are personality clashes, misunderstandings, discouragement and all the other negatives in human relations. However, the journey to learning to love and accept others and ourselves is full of interesting thought provoking experiences.

5 out of 5 stars Christmas in Cape Light.......2007-01-05

Once again, visiting the fictional Cape Light for Christmas is almost like going home for Christmas! The familiar characters are like family, and the story is always interesting, uplifting, and believable. Kinkade and Spencer are truly a team of authors that bring fiction to life and build a fan-base of people, like me, who are looking for good, clean reads that have a posative Christian message.

The Christmas Angel
by Thomas Kinkade and Katherine Spencer
I know it's not Christmas but a good story but a good story is a good story.
We all know of Thomas Kinkade as a great painter of light, but have you read any of his stories? This is in the Cape Light series.
This book tells more of Emily, a mayor, she's older and recently married. Emily had a daughter over 20 years ago that her mother talked her into giving up. She now has a good relationship with her daughter, but has missed all of the bringing her up.
One morning Emily was jogging she spies something moving in the cradle set up outside the church, a little hand. The baby inside starts an adventure you don't want to miss.

I am sorry to have to say these things but I feel it necessary to be honest. I am a avid reader and I picked this book up to try this author. This book was very slow and the characters are very shallow.I felt no attachment or pull to any of them. I kept waiting for something to happen but to my dissapointment it never came. You as a reader can tell from the first few chapters exactly what will take place in this book. There was nothing in this book of interest to me as a reader and I will think twice next time before reading anything from this author.

5 out of 5 stars Home Song.......2007-08-01

Excellent storyline with action throughout. Readable for all ages and intersting subjects keeping all the characters in mind throughout the story. Sad at times, because of the hardships, but in the end it works out as God Plans and this makes the story realistic. I enjoyed it and have aready lined up friends and family to real the series as I have purchased them all.

1 out of 5 stars Oh no, not more.......2004-12-08

Will various banal interpersonal conflicts of a personal nature all turn out for the best in idyllic fantasyland Cape Light? Just as surely as Thomas Kinkade will get millions more dollars selling holiday pennants, air fresheners, Christmas choo-choo trains, and overpriced prints of his egregiously sappy artwork!

In this volume, the good people of the village of cozy cottages, old-tyme independent businesses, and upright churchgoers face yet another harrowing dilema! Should they be evil hypocritical secular humanist snobs and turn away a new center for troubled teens? Or should they do the right thing and trust in providence and be welcoming?

What do you think? Do you really need to shell out bucks and read this schmaltzy little screed to find out? Thomas Kinkade is reportedly worth $75 million. Why further enrich him?

5 out of 5 stars a MUST read!!.......2004-08-31

This book was great!! If you like a good - down to earth - book, you'll love this. It's SO nice to read a book that is so wonderfully written and inspiring. You can put yourself in this story and then you WANT to LIVE in the town of Cape Light...it's a town of Christian people who love each other...it's what the world is SUPPOSED to be like...it's a town of old. Read it...you won't be able to put it down. Speaking of which...is the boss looking...I'm on the 3rd book in the series and ready to order the 4th and 5th. :-)

4 out of 5 stars A HOMEY, SMALL TOWN STORY.......2003-12-09

Cape Light is the kind of place where you'd like to spend some time getting to know its inhabitants and enjoy the scenery. It's a town where people hold secrets and pain in their hearts as well as their secret longings. But it's also about people trying to get through the everyday struggles of living and working together. Of course there are those who rub you wrong, as the case is with Charlie, who is not only running against Emily for Mayor, but is doing so in an underhanded manner. And then there is her mother, Lilian, who is against Emily's sister Jessica, who plans to marry Ben. Lillian thinks that Ben isn't good enough for her daughter. They are characters you might judge at first glance, but come to realize the pain and guilt that compels them to act as they do. Much like real people react to mistakes they've made. This story holds secrets to the way we can respond in a possitive or negative way to our wrong choices and how they affect others. This is a good read!

Book Description

From the acclaimed South African novelist, a lyrical tale of self-discovery in post-apartheid cape town.

Set in a beautifully rendered 1990s Cape Town, Playing in the Light revolves around Marion, a woman of Afrikaner background, who hates traveling but nonetheless runs a travel agency, and her complex relationship with Brenda, the first black woman she has ever employed.

In writing as finely detailed and attuned to psychological nuance as Anita Brookner's, Wicomb depicts the life of a complicated, single woman in a changing and complicated place. Caught up in the narrow world of private interests and self-advancement, Marion eschews national politics until the exposures of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission lead to the discovery of a skeleton in the family cupboard. While her aging father is unable and unwilling to supply the truth, Marion's young employee becomes implicated in the piecing together of Marion's past, leading to a defining transformation and widening of Marion's world.

In this impeccably wrought new work, the acclaimed author of You Can't Get Lost in Cape Town provides wisdom and insight about the new South Africa and about people everywhere.

" In A New Leaf, world-renowned author Thomas Kinkade, ""Painter of Light,"" takes readers into the heart of Cape Light, where people understand the importance of lending a hand and cultivating gratitude. Readers will discover that Cape Light is a place they won't want to leave. Ever since her bitter divorce, single mom Molly Willhoughby has felt disillusioned by matters of the heart. But then she meets newcomer Dr. Matthew Harding, who inspires her to take another look at her life. Matthew is a widower who's come to Cape Light to make a new start for himself and his teenage daughter. He may be reluctant to risk a new relationship, but he knows if he doesn't find a way to put the past behind him, he may miss out on a once-in-a-lifetime love. But Matthew and Molly aren't the only Cape Lighters who must find a way to believe in the possibility of miracles. A surprise visitor has turned up on Tucker Tulley's doorstep-someone not entirely welcome. It will take Reverend Ben's guidance for Tucker and his loved ones to turn over a new leaf and let the power of forgiveness fill their hearts."

3 out of 5 stars Good Story.......2007-04-12

The story line in all of the Cape Light Series are sweet, but predictable. Which is okay; sometimes, sweet is nice.
The basic problem with these books is the editing. There are numerous typos. There is also an instance of the wrong name being inserted. It is very unprofessional as well as distracting. Contacting the editor did not even elicit a response.

Book Description

Originally published in 1979, Cape Light became an instant classic and one of the most influential photography books published in the latter part of the 20th century. Common scenestiny figures on a beach, a porch railing against a storm-darkened sky, a blue raft against a summer cottageall are transformed by the poignant light of the Cape and the photographers subtle and luminous vision. This exquisitely printed book captures every nuance of color and light in that unique juncture of sky, sea, and land that is Cape Cod.

5 out of 5 stars provincetown.......2006-08-24

I love the pictures of my old haunt. Ptown has some of the worlds most beautiful light.

5 out of 5 stars this is it!.......2003-01-09

I first saw this book while i was looking through the photography section at the University of Guelph library. This book probably influenced my photography more than any other. Unfortunately, it also made me start doing shots with my nikon that are better suited for a large format system. The introductory interview with the photographer is possibly the most interesting discussion on the topic of light and photography. If you plan to become anything more than an amature photographer, PLEASE get this book NOW.

5 out of 5 stars Takes your photographic breath away.......2002-03-04

Ansel Adams said that this book was his favorite book of color photographs (the reason I bought it, long ago). Meyerowitz's use of little contrast, incomparible colors, and unusual subject matter makes this a must MEMORIZE book for all serious photographers. If you don't go nuts over his photographs, you don't like photography as much as you thought you did.......

    Book Description

Christmas comes again to the little town of Cape Light.

Molly Willoughby-Harding has a beautiful home, a husband, family, and friends, and a blossoming new business-so why is she unhappy? Just as her life is starting to take off, she's pregnant again-and she's going to have to confront her previous notions of what she truly needs to be happy, in order to recapture that elusive Christmas spirit...

Meanwhile, Miranda Potter has found an injured man who's lost his memory. As she nurses him back to health an unexpected attraction develops. Can Miranda let uncertainty back into her life just as things finally start making sense?

And when Reverend Ben finds a wooden angel statue, word spreads that it holds miraculous powers, turning his peaceful church into a tourist attraction-and making it seem more of a burden then a blessing. But what he discovers is that he's given the people of Cape Light the best Christmas gift of all.
