Strategies that are effective and legal for putting one’s assets safely out of reach
In today’s increasingly litigious world, the shielding of assets has become a prominent issue for financial planners, business owners, and high-net-worth individuals. Asset Protection details methods that are both legally and morally legitimate for protecting one’s assets from creditors, lawsuits, and scams.
Bringing economic common sense and legitimacy to an area that is drowning in gimmickry, two of today’s top lawyers examine the fundamental issues in this growing area, avoiding dense legalese to make the book accessible to anyone. Asset Protection covers everything readers want to know about:
- Establishing an effective asset protection program
- Today’s most popular, established strategies
- Newer strategies that are still being resolved by the courts

OUTSTANDING TREATISE!!!!.......2007-09-11
BUY IT. READ IT. THEN READ IT AGAIN. AND AGAIN. EACH TIME YOU READ IT YOU WILL PICK UP YET ANOTHER USEFUL NUGGET OF INFORMATION. THE UNIQUE THING ABOUT THIS 'BIBLE' IS THAT IT IS USEFUL FOR THOSE WISHING TO PROTECT ASSETS FROM FUTURE CREDITORS, AND JUST AS USEFUL FOR THOSE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE, TRYING TO SEIZE ASSETS AS WELL. A VERY POWERFUL, DETAILED AND GENEROUS BOOK. NOT YOUR TYPICAL A/P BOOK. THE 'RIGHT' WAY TO SAFELY PROTECT YOUR ASSETS.
Asset protection.......2007-05-12
This well-written book does a great job of dispelling a lot of the mis-information that currently abounds in the market place.
Well researched.......2007-03-01
Jay Adkisson is my voice of reason in the field. This is heavily researched brain food for asset protection. The rule of law is constantly massaged and altered as the courts challenge provisions, and I always feel safest turning to Jay for his interpretation. In particular the Albright 291 Rptr. 538 ruling in Colorado has alot of LLC attorneys spooked. I'm sure we'll be hearing from Jay soon on this one.
Above the Norm.......2007-01-17
Asset protection is a good practical sense guide on the areas of trust, business entities and a dose of reality. If your at a point where the accumulated assets is worth protecting for yourself, spouse, kids and family then this is the book to read. Its not too technical but down to earth business sense. I find this book is geared to people that have some familarity with the business environment. If you know why you want to protect your assets then this book is the next step.
No Surprises Here.......2006-05-30
Adkisson and Riser are beacons in the darkness that is labeled asset protection. This book, and the attitudes it sets forth towards asset protection (when that term may be discretely used) are the de facto standard of care and woe be to the professional who believes otherwise. I say there are no surprises because the book is the embodiment of the professional, real life anti-scam viewpoint in this area Jay Adkisson has come to represent. Do not ignore the fact most of these five star reviews are by attorneys like myself who see the aftermath of so-called asset protection, off-shore entities and third world trusts. Don't miss it.

Gotta Get It!.......2007-07-16
My husband and I currently own a CS30 that we race and cruise on the Chesapeake Bay. We have been seriously considering moving up to a 37-40 ft cruiser. We bought this book (among several others) to prepare for cruising. It is fantastic. He covers every topic imaginable in an easy to digest format. It is a resource you don't want to be without!
A must have for sailing cruisers.......2007-01-22
I wish I had bought this book before I bought my newest old boat - my personal survey would have been much more effective.
This book covers so much, so well. Mr. Calder obviously not only has the knowledge but the motivation to really think about what should go into each area. He covers choosing, maintaining, upgrading, and cruising a boat to just the right degree that if you had no other resources, this book would usually suffice. And he does this in such a relatively small book.
mostly about calder's boat.......2006-12-11
this is book about cruising in a sailboat but is mostly filled with pictures and references to his sailboat and what a great boat it is. i wanted a book about cruising after you have a boat.
Good manual and info on sailing.......2006-12-11
Well thought out and good graphics/photos. Solid marine related information and guide. A good book for the sail oriented seamen.
The Cruising Handbook is the reference manual to have.......2006-10-29
For cruising, Nigel Calder's book is the one that offers the most good information about a variety of cruising-related subjects. If I had to choose to keep only couple of books for boating, it would be this and Chapman's Piloting and Seamanship. This Cruising Handbook is especially geared for sailboats and covers all boat systems and the issues you are likely to encounter.
Book Description
In a book that is sure to become a classic, internationally respected boatbuilder, yacht manager, and delivery skipper Bill Seifert shares his hard-won solutions to a host of boat design, construction, and equipment issues and seamanship dilemmas. Unlike other books on the subject, Offshore Sailing doesn’t just tell readers what to do for safe and comfortable passage making; it shows them how to do it with clear, step-by-step instructions and nearly 200 detailed drawings and photographs.

Offshore Sailing: 200 Essential tips.......2007-07-05
I recommend this book to all novices and many experienced offshore sailors to prepare for the unexpected problems that you need to address or avoid especially when you are so exposed to the extremes of nature, and completely disconnected from any immediate help. Lots of good lessons learned and references.

Required reading for ASA108 certification.......2007-05-12
This book looks disappointing at first because it is a thin expensive hardcover, but it is worth the money. There is very little fluff and the content is well structured and to the point. It covers most things necessary to prepare your boat for offshore sailing including tool lists, weight distribution, polars and VMG, secants and many other useful tips. Lots of pictures, tables and diagrams.
Offshoore Sailing: 2000 passagemaking tips.......2007-01-31
This is a very comprehensive book explaining what you need to know about offshore sailing.
Take the hint(s)........2003-07-31
It would be foolish to think about seriously sailing or cruising without taking Bill Seifert's learned counsel!!
Get this one.......2002-11-09
I rarely bother to write reviews, but I have to add my kudos to the others given here. There is a down-to-earth pragmatism in these pages that I haven't found anywhere else. The authors have condensed an extraordinary amount of experience into 200 very succinct tips that cover a broad range of subjects. Many of their suggestions are low tech and can be easily implemented yourself. They have been there, done that and it shows. I am putting this one right next to Dashew, Calder, Sutphen and Leonard to fill in the blanks.
Book Description
"An invaluable resource. [Vigor's] practical wisdom gives you the know-how and confidence to prepare your boat for the sea."--Cruising World. Here is the book that answer the sailor's fundamental question--"Can my boat take me offshore safely?"--then shows how to make it happen.

Alll of what you need to know.......2005-10-06
This book is well written and covers everything you need to know for an off shore voyager. I believe it is a must read for before a first time offshore journey.
Buy This Book.......2003-06-18
Even if you do not plan to sail shorthanded thousands of miles offshore it's a very good idea to understand in detail what makes your boat seaworthy in difficult circumstances and to make it so.
This book is a very thorough and very readable treatment of the subject of everything you need to know about a sailboat (except how to sail; that part is assumed). These sorts of things distinguish good sailors from the mass of recreational sailors and I, for one, have an ambition to become the former. If you do, too, then this is a great book to read several times.
The Black Box theory of why some people are lucky and others aren't relates to preparedness and if only once in your life you need it, then it's worth it to you and your companions to have taken the trouble.
Good Advice.......2002-01-23
You can easily pick up three books on offshore sailing and get three separate opinions of what type of boat you need. A fast boat will get across the pond faster. A big boat adds stability and can carry lots of accessories like auxiliary generators and water makers. John's theory is that you should get a boat that can be handled well by a small crew and tough enough to handle any weather that you are likely to run into. Since his opinion parallels my own, I can only assume that he is obviously a sailing genius. This book is highly recommended for anyone contemplating a voyage over the horizon.
Have some doubts.......2002-01-09
I'm not 100% sure of the value of the book, most of the concepts are well known and of little importance for my point of view. In some arguments it lacks of depht...
The Seaworthy Offshore Sailboat.......2001-12-28
This book presents the detail descriptions of what makes a boat seaworthy. This is immediately followed by suggestions on what to improve and methods to go about doing so. The author does not just turn you over to the yard but rather recommends the procedure to be done. A welcomed addition to my library and a recommended read for anyone considering going offshore.

Highly informative and readable.......2006-07-11
This book provides a great framework for analyzing and determining the why, what, how and where of offshoring. If your organization is considering a shift towards offshoring, then you should find this book very useful in helping you think through the business case. The book does not drown you in details, but still provides a comprehensive overview of the offshoring industry.
Highly recommended.......2006-05-18
"The Offshore Nation - The Rise of Services Globalization" is an excellent guide for companies putting together their offshore strategy, as well as for companies that have already done it but want better results. It beautifully captures the global trends and gives practical yet comprehensive guidelines on how to do offshoring right - things that come out straight from the authors' rich experience in the area. Highly recommended.
Make Sure You're Looking for Info on OFFSHORING - not OUTSOURCING.......2006-05-15
Offshoring and Outsourcing just got jumbled again in the American vocabulary. The Offshore Nation is written by experts on the Indian BPO marketplace. If thats what you're trying to understand, this book is very helpful. If your goal is limited to large corporation, call center projects or transaction processing, this book is very helpful.
For all other areas of Outsourcing, I highly recommend you read any one of the other books who don't confuse offshoring and outsourcing better than Lou Dobbs.
A must read even if you don't outsource or are not in the business of outsourcing.......2006-05-12
Atul's book `The Offshore Nation' offers a very insightful ring-side view of the macro-economic trend towards globalization of services and how organizations and business leaders can effectively leverage this in a global economy for competitive advantage. Atul through his organization, NeoIT, has played a lead role in shaping the sourcing strategies of global organizations and the book is both thought provoking as well as prescriptive. It is a must read even if you don't outsource or are not in the business of outsourcing, for sooner or later, you will be a part of this global economy where work moves to where it gets done best."
A Must Read for Managing Today And Leading Into The Future.......2006-05-08
Speaking as the CEO of Sourcing Interests Group, a major ongoing outsourcing forum, The Offshore Nation hits a homerun in providing practical, immediately useful insight into the many facets and considerations of offshore outsourcing. Clearly this is one of the most important books on outsourcing that has ever been written. I highly recommend it.

Authoritative treatment of a timely topic.......2007-10-04
I have recently gotten interested in this topic due to world events. I bought this book and read it in one sitting--it is knowledgable and eye-opening. At no time did I feel the author was trying to "sell" me on anything...on the contrary the book reads as if the author is an expert in the field and simply wants the word to get out. Yes, his service is listed, but then, so are hundreds of other offshore experts--carefully presented according to their expertise.
In fact a colleague of mine contacted the author for advice and claims that the company handled him well and expeditiously regarding his request and order.
Apart from that, I believe that this work may be the best, if not the only timely report on the subject. If you want to know more, I would say it is a must-read, with the only intent to correctly inform on a topic that the "powers-to-be" may wish to keep covered up. Worth a look!
Becareful with this Author.......2007-08-19
The book is basically a plug for their financial service. I spent a lot of time corresponding with them and purchased one of their offshore banking packages. I had detailed my overseas residency situation and expressed concerns about their ability to match me with my desired banking product. They assured me that there would be no problems and if there were, I would get a full refund. Six months later, I have no Swiss bank account and no refund.
The Best on the Topic, and More.......2007-05-03
I recommend this book as a fascinating read to anyone, whether or not they are interested in minimizing their tax-load legally. (And who isn't?) But while this book delivers brilliantly on that score, it is also an authoritative, entertaining manual that serves as a wake-up call on the state-of-the world these days. It treats the both the big picture and the important details of offshore, and provides excellent contacts for not just legally avoiding taxes, but also for protecting one's assets, future, and indeed, one's personal safety and sovereignty. Further, this is not only the best book on the topic by far, but it is the only current book by several years. And the author truly knows his topic. Fascinating, excellent read.
Eye Opening.......2007-02-24
This is an eye opening book you must experience. Regardless of your politics, nobody likes excess and unfair taxation. Taxation without representation started the American Revolution, however the American Spirit is dead. We are the only industrialized nation that taxes our citizens living abroad. As I write this review, there is small business legislation in congress, hidden inside of that legislation is a law that would allow the IRS to tax assets of Americans who decide to expatriate to a country with less of a tax burden. A must read book. For additional information, visit The Sovereign Society website. In addition, The Patriot Act has allowed our government investigators to replace "probable cause" with "suspicion" when investigating your (the taxpayer's) financial privacy.
A Handbook for Paranoid Dreamers.......2007-02-05
Whatever practical advice this book offers is undermined by its paranoid anti-government tone: would you really contact - and entrust your money to - a financial advisor in a foreign country on the basis of a recommendation by someone who opens with dark warnings such as "Certain special interests in the world today are trying to close particular doors as we speak"? Or, "The trick is that governments with certain behind-the-scene agendas regularly redefine those parameters in an attempt to control their taxable subjects and hang on to revenues for support of their ever-expanding plans and budgets. As James Bond said, 'World domination, same old dream.'" (Page 3). If you're writing an adolescent spy-thriller, this book will be fine background. If you're planning an estate or have real financial responsibilities, look elsewhere.

Black Book of outsourcing.......2007-09-13
This book is excellent. It discusses why outsourcing is essential for doing business and the process requried to do so. It is straight forward, good for not only for Companies interested to outsource, but also anybody who is interested to learn about outsourcing.
New Revised & Updated "BLACK BOOK" coming in 2008!.......2007-09-03
Outsourcing buyers, clients, advisors, analysts, investors, managers, executives and media all quote this book as the "bible of outsourcing"! We're looking forward to the 2008 edition which is coming out next year.
EXCELLENT!.......2006-11-03
The book offered very useful information and guidelines that could immediately apply to our work. Additionally, the author has revealed a new path to business knowledge, offering further opportunities to pursue the successful implementation of company strategic goals in an ever-changing and challenging business environment.
A Different Take on the Outsourcing Debate.......2006-10-12
With Lou Dobbs and a host of others focusing only on the negative aspects of outsourcing, it's refreshing to see someone talk about how outsourcing can drive economic growth also. The dominance of service businesses is restructuring the economy and, like all change, some of it will be painful. Good jobs will come from value-added activity, not by bemoaning the inevitable. Outsourcing is just another way that the market exposes management inefficiency.
Buy This If You're Only Going to Buy One Outsourcing Book in Your Career - it has it all.......2006-06-08
This outsourcing book is by far the best on the shelf. The other outsourcing books I've read (as a corporate trainer, I've read over a dozen) focus on the history of outsourcing, the effects of outsourcing and the mundane aspects of the subject.
The Black Book of Outsourcing is a comprehensive and dynamic collection of hard to find information, resources and advice:
Section One - is for Managers and Workers either affected by outsourcing or wanting to improve their performance by understanding the HOW-TO of outsourcing.
Section Two - uniquely focuses on job seekers, career changers, and new grads - all of who are looking for the hottest careers and how to qualify for them. No just what its all about but how to make it work for your career and job search.
Section Three - provides executives, entrepreneurs and business owners with the knowledge of how to start an outsourcing firm, how to use outsourcing to ramp up fast profits in a start up, and how to reinfuse cash into your business or company.
The wide range of subject matter, directories (for instance: outsourcing vendors), resources, anecdotals, in-depth How-To and step-by-step directions make this the best outsourcing book available. Its also extremely current and has reliable trusted date which we use. The manuals are part of our workers training and I often see the books dog-earred and post-it noted on our staffs desk. You'll use it for years to come. Trust me - its a great value of exceptional advice.
Book Description
For two decades, Ben Gerwick's ability to capture the current state of practice and present it in a straightforward, easily digestible manner has made Construction of Marine and Offshore Structures the reference of choice for modern civil and maritime construction engineers. The third edition of this perennial bestseller continues to be the most modern and authoritative guide in the field. Based on the author's lifetime of experience, the book also incorporates relevant published information from many sources. Updated and expanded to reflect new technologies, methods, and materials, the book includes new information on topics such as liquefaction of loose sediments, scour and erosion, archaeological concerns, high-performance steel, ultra-high-performance concrete, steel H piles, and damage from sabotage and terrorism. It features coverage of LNG terminals and offshore wind and wave energy structures. Clearly, concisely, and accessibly, this book steers you away from the pitfalls and toward the successful implementation of principles that can bring your marine and offshore projects to life.
Customer Reviews:
The only marine and offshore construction book you need.......2007-01-19
This book is FULL of information, interesting, readable, and explanatory. This book takes a long time to get through though, which I suppose is great value. The following are the chapters:
1. Physical Environmental Aspects
2. Geotechnical Aspects (Seafloor)
3. Ecological and Societal Impacts
4. Materials and Fabrication (Structures)
5. Construction Equipment (Vessels)
6. Marine Operations
7. Seafloor Modifications and Improvements
8. Installation of Piles
9. Harbor, River, and Estuary Structures
10. Coastal Structures
11. Steel Jackets
12. Concrete Gravity-Base Structures
13. Other Applications of Offshore Construction Technology
14. Moored Floating Structures
15. Pipeline Installation
16. Plastic and Composite Pipelines, Cables
17. Topside Installation
18. Underwater Repairs
19. Strengthening Existing Structures
20. Removal and Salvage
21. Constructability
22. Deep Sea Construction
23. Arctic Structures
The first three chapters provide excellent background information. Chapters 4-6 are more specific but still general enough to be required reading. The remaining chapters are for you to choose which are most applicable to your company's operations. I don't think any one company actually does all the types of work this book covers, but it's still good to have the introductory knowledge. (Note topside fabrication, which albeit is accomplished on a quayside, is not discussed.) The chapter on constructability is a more recent and important topic.
A competitive advantage is technical knowledge (or at least awareness) of the many different methodologies to achieve satisfactory execution, and this book describes many of them in marine and offshore construction. It is a must read for operations and project engineers, construction supervision, planners/schedulers, and even project managers.
'A Must For All in Marine Construction Management'.......2001-07-06
This is an excellent publication from an individual of exemplarary knowledge of the industry.
Book Description
Ship-shaped offshore units are some of the more economical systems for the development of offshore oil and gas, and are often preferred in marginal fields. These systems are especially attractive to develop oil and gas fields in deep and ultra-deep water areas and remote locations away from existing pipeline infrastructures. Recently, the ship-shaped offshore units have been applied to near shore oil and gas terminals. It is an ideal text and reference on the technologies for design, building and operation of ship-shaped offshore units, within inevitable space (and time) requirements. The book includes a range of topics, from the initial contracting strategy to decommissioning and the removal of the units concerned. Coverage includes both fundamental theory and principles of the individual technologies. This book will be useful to students who will be approaching the subject for the first time as well as designers working on the engineering for ship-shaped offshore installations.

Superb and riveting book on 'Pirate Radio'!.......2007-03-15
As an avid SWL (shortwave listener) and Ham Radio Operator, I could not put this book down! It is very well researched, with excellent illustrations and photos. It also comes with an audio CD with clips of many various 'pirate radio' transmissions. Popular frequencies where you can actually hear some of these stations are listed, and I was able to pull in a few the first night of listening! Highly recommended, and highly interesting!
Great for free radio lovers.......2003-01-06
I did buy the book and I have been reading it completely.
And I did learn my friends. I am a pirate radio operator for years but still nice things to find out about Pirating. I like it a lot and also nice to see how other stations are doing it and finding out about their history's.
Also the book to buy if you want to tune in to al kinds of pirate radio like TV,hf,vhf, internet,fm. You name it.
This is good, but the Net is better.......2002-09-30
This is a good review of SWLing and pirate radio, but the Internet is better.
Of particular notice is the typeface selected by the publisher. It is bizarre--meant as a display typeface, I'm sure. The effect is that this book is almost impossible to read and frankly, it hurts my eyes.
