I was very pleased with this book. I have read several of Karen Kingsbury's books and like her stories as well as her development of characters. Would like to read more of her books in large print.

Christian sensorship...it's happening now!.......2007-01-19

I enjoy Karen Kingsbury books so very much. They are always entertaining and I can relate to her characters. However I am amazed at the way Karen took the subject of sensorship of a Christian topic and made it come alive. America is in the midddle of this very thing happening and American people had better wake up or we just may find we have nothing to say in matters of being a Christian in a very un-Christian nation....the United States. I so hope it doesn't happen! Read this book and take it to heart.

Karen Kingsbury is extremely talented! I don't know how she does it with EVERY book! I loved the real life charactars and the way that they came back to God. I really felt like I was fealing the actual emotions of the charactars. It wasn't just a light little love story. It was deep with conflict and emotions. I also loved how Kingsbury based this book about the Bible charactar Joshua. This book also was good because it had some legal stuff in it that I thought was interesting. This is one of the best books I have read and I have read a lot of books.

I have been reading Karen Kingbury's works for over a year now and while I figure out the ending (which is usually predictable in the beginning) I am never disappointed. The first book I ever read was One Tuesday Morning and now the latest book I have finished is On Every Side. I have, by virtue of a couple of "fake-Christians" decided that God and Jesus were just too much for me. That how could I put faith and trust into something where so many people are closeminded, jugemental, and un-Christianlike. But in reading this book and seeing myself in Jordan, I realized that the Lord is none of those things and being Christian is more about my personal relationship with Him and not what everyone else seems to be with Him. This book brought me back to the Lord and while I won't repeat the story here, I will say, if you are struggling with your faith, please read this book.

Three Sides to Every Story is truly a book that we really enjoyed. The Author showed how three of the main characters had three different perspectives of one event. Clarence Nero touched on issues that involved a homophobic drug dealer, down-low man, domestic violence, drug abuse, drag-queens and most importantly, HIV and how it is not just a "gay disease".

The GBM Book Club was very impressed in how the author showed how each of his characters were strong and positive role models; especially, Pandora, Johnny, James, Tonya, and Ebony. Yes, even Ebony because to be involved with a man like Kojack and endure all of his physical abuse and not tell a soul, you have to be strong.

Out of all the characters, James was the most liked character. Although he was an effeminate gay man who performed in "drag", he was still a man who demanded to be treated with respect. James showed the meaning of "True Love" He would do anything for his Johnny, even if it meant taking a bullet.

So, if you really want to read a good book that tells a story with so many twists, turns and surprises and that will keep you wondering what's next, then check out "Three Sides to Every story" and find out who's really telling the truth. Trust me, you won't be able to put it down

Urban Novel with Social commentary........2007-04-11

Three Sides to Every Story is a page turner for sure. Nero has written a novel that holds your interest and makes you think. Not only is the novel fascinating, it's replete with social commentary, that does not come off as preachy but rather much more educational.

His words speak life into the characters; you can actually see and feel them as you read. The 3 main characters are unique and very dimensional. I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to more novels by Nero

When I first starting reading, I liked the way Mr. Nero wrote the book. But in the beginning to me it was too slow. It did pick up in the middle, and it was alittle predictable. However, if you want to escape from the real world and indulge in alittle drama, I say pick this one up!

Johnny would be in prison for years and she could not continue to pine for him all that time. Tonya knows that time is money and she doesn't have much of either. James is an exceptional man, one who loves to flaunt his feminine side while sporting a tough exterior. He was part of a family of men that dressed in drag and worked the local club once a week. James worked his magic every chance he could while being safe in the love and sex department. Then James gets caught slipping well stealing from his job and was sent to prison. James would learn that love is kind.

THREE SIDES TO EVERY STORY is a love story that stretches the imagination. Nero has written a sexy story rich with lessons of love and life. The reader will learn about the good and bad of being in love and living a life worth writing home about. The details of the story and surprising character development allow the reader to get inside the head of each lover. If Lucifer could communicate with us he would have written this book.It definitely enlightens and ignites the imagination of the reader--especially mine.I have never read a book so inspiring and as bold as this one.I have reread it several times,learned something new each time and it is incredible to think that this book is fictional.I love the Book of Philosophies and the intrigue in regards to the Lazarus legend and the Apocolyptic message.I have recommended this book as an excellent read which will open the readers' minds to other possibilities and view points that differ from the commonly told versions expounded for centuries.I give it FIVE Stars for entertainment,enlightenment and education but most importantly it gave Lucifer a chance to speak to all of us through this fascinating book by John A. DeVito.I'm looking forward to his next book.....There is nothing like going against the grain---it's fun!!!!

I just purchased this book on Amazon and read it immediately.

I was born and raised a Catholic and this book caused me to question every sacrament, commandment, and the history of my faith.

It was extremely well written and paralleled many stories in the bible but with a different twist. The book was very well thought out as the author provided an opposing view to every story we learned about in Sunday School.

The story follows the "angels" and their interactions in heaven. They create man but not like it was told in the bible. They needed a being with souls whom they could rule with fear and required worship to give them their power. After neaderthal, cro-magnon man, they finally got the model correct with the creation of modern man.

Satan is the Philosopher and does not agree with "He Who Is Three" the most powerful angel and essentially God. "God" wants to create man to rule and dominate as sheep while Satan thinks that it is not their role and that humans should be allowed to form their own destiny. Satan is not the only angel to feel that way and soon there is a revolt to the plan. There is a war in the Heavens where Satan and his disciples are banished and bound to the Earth.

The story begins with Adam and Eve and unlike the bible and temptation, it is about free will and being able to learn, and to make choices. We learn early on the God is truly vengeful and a cruel entity bent on crushing humanity if they will not subject themselves to his rule.

Satan in the book is a friend to humanity who encourages the people to develop their free will as humans have the power for greatness and should worship no one.

"He Who Is Three" is concerned with the lack of faith and hence his lack of power so one of his three leaves to become part of a human named Jesus. The story follows his travels and there is an extremely interesting conversation between Satan and Jesus where Jesus begins to question God, his Father's motives. He thinks back to his conversation with Satan and briefly believes him to be correct. Jesus begs his Father (God) to forgo the torture he will be subjected to but God is vengeful for his conversation with Satan and tells Jesus that he will experience more pain then any human known.

This is a fantastic read that will cause you to really think about everything you were taught in Sunday school.

Enjoy this incredible blend of religion, science, and history. I sure did!!!

Kind of a mishmash.......2006-12-30

I almost didn't make it past the third chapter. Certain conventions - "lost" manuscript, quest for mysterious prophetic chroniclers blah blah blah - and the forced Elizabethan writing style were almost too hackneyed to get past.

But, I paid for the darned thing, so I decided to stick with it.

And it got better, in later chapters. I liked the Chapter of Philosophies for its rationalistic take on the Beatitudes. I would really have liked an expanded treatment of the relationship between Pharoah and Moses, and more on the relationship between Jesus and the-rest-of-God (it was a bit like Kazantzakis-light, here and showed real promise; alas, abandoned too quickly). When De Vito writes characters with conflicts and emotions, and allows them a bit of actual character development, he does well. It just seems like he hadn't decided what kind of book to write here, before he actually started typing.

In the end, literally, it disappointed. I suppose a book purporting to be prophecy of the end-times can't get too specific, but the conclusion was really unsatisfying.

So, 3 stars for some nice speculation on the motivations and struggles of some well-known characters. No more than three stars because of the trite packaging and tonal inconsistencies.

Thought provoking.......2006-11-18

An excellent fantasy that explores the motives of the angels, both fallen and perceived holy. Vicious in spots, eye opening in others, this book does what good contemplative fantasy should do; it makes you think. "What if?" can be a dangerous concept to the indoctrinated proletariat. It requires an open mind, which will be the cause of negative criticism from the corps of the Christian right. An outstanding book that was easy to read and hard to put down.

An Almost Compelling Retelling...........2006-07-16

The constant typos, grammatical errors and misuse of old English aside, which are very off-putting as some of the grammar buffs here have pointed out, this is one of the more intriguing and disturbing concepts I've ever come across. It has a certain haunting something about it that crawls my spine. Even if it's just the product of one person's imagination, it makes you wonder where such notions can have come from.

Any Christian, whether they admit it or not, knows there is something wrong with the bible story and they want to hear the irreconcilables reconciled, the holes plugged. Which leaves the door wide open for a retelling. If you believe at all in the divinity of Jesus (which I personally don't, but strangely, this inverse version of the story, from the archenemy's viewpoint, made me actually consider it!), this is about the only version of the story that makes sense of the insensible. And with all the particulars covered. I don't know if I can bring myself all the way to saying it's "believable", but the explanations offered for some of the unbelievables in the traditional story do ring more true than the swiss cheese version you get elsewhere. If the writing had been better, the premise could have been truly compelling. Alas, the Devil, being a master manipulator in one doctrine, an expelled but once great Teacher in the other doctrine, would by rights have to also be a master communicator. So the bad grammar kills the illusion of authenticity. However, if I learned that in the Devil's own dimension, these faults of grammar were the norm, I'd be truly frightened.

At the time of this writing, I've only reviewed one other book on Amazon.com, The Life of Pi. That book promised and failed miserably to make me believe in God. This book, written from The Adversary's perspective, ironically, came closer to achieving that than anything I've read so far, including my own Christian upbringing. But that's because the evidence of my eyes tells me that if God exists, he can't possibly be a good guy.

Excellent Book.......2006-02-13

With Allopathic medicine (regular medicine) proving to be miraculous in some situations. At the same time in other situations its proving to be too strong, too much and causing too many side effects. Welcome in herbal medicine as kind of a similar but more sensitive way to treat many of the same problems.

Welcome in a book like this which keeps it simple. Yes simple, yet has very valuable information about herbs and drug interactions and even talks about which herbs are safer than others. A fantastic book to have on hand if you are interested in the wonderful world of herbal medicine.

Demystify the herb world.......2006-01-13

I'm so pleased to tell readers that this book was so pleasurable to read that I read it cover to cover the day it arrived. I started on an herb regiment four months ago (thanks to webmd.com), much to the dismay of my rheumatologist and cardiologist as I was already on fifteen prescription pills a day. With the help of the herbs I've been able to cut those pills in half. But I, too, was concerned about my ignorance as to the possible incompatibility of my newly found herbs with my doctor's advice and pills. Thanks to this book, we can all rest assured that I'm not messing with a dangerous mixture. Absolutely one hundred percent of my prescriptions were listed in the book and found to be safe with the herbs I'm now taking daily. The book is beautifully written with colorful pictures and easy-to cross-reference drugs, herbs, foods, etc. and their interactions with one another. At the end, a bonus that I had not expected: a long list of ailments offered to the reader who may have he or she's own agenda for wanting to try an alternative path to wellness. The mystery of these age-old remedies, that our ancestors probably used, is quickly unraveled in a written format simple enough for a child to understand. And, if I'm not mistaken, the author never once promised to cure cancer, etc. That would have been a giant signal to me that I was dealing with a quack. It is what it is, a guide to herbal usage. It's my new favorite book! P.S. Thank you to the previous on-line critics who lead me through the maze of self-help books to this very special one.

Being as the publisher is Dorling Kindersley, the book is well laid out and beautifully illustrated. Being as the authors are medically qualified, the book is comprehensive and user-friendly. Very good book indeed.

Not only does this book give you the best information I've seen on herbal medicines, it also is beautifully illustrated with full-color pictures of the plants being discussed. The layout of the items is especially appealing and you will find this book easy-to-use and very practical.

For instance, if you are taking Anacin 3, Asprin-Free Excedrin, Bayer Select, Excedrin PM, Panadol or Tylenol, these contain Acetaminophen which is a pain reliever and fever reducer. While there is no known herbal interactions, you may want to help prevent liver damage from long-term use of acetaminophen by taking Milk thistle. So, preventative care is also discussed in detail.

The Index of Safe Herbs by conditions gives you information fast. If you have Insomnia, you can look up the name of the condition and you will find recommendations for Catnip, Chamomile, Dill seed and Valerian. To read about Chamomile in detail, you can easily look up the herb at the front of the book in the safe herb guide.

What you will find is a picture of the herb plant, why it is used, how it works, comments and cautions and dosage information. For instance, if you can't sleep, but are using a blood-thinning drug like warfarin, or you are allergic to ragweed, you might want to skip that remedy and research a second option. In the beneficial herb-herb interactions tables, you will see that catnip and passionflower are good combinations to relieve anxiety and insomnia. However, they should not be used with antidepressants or MAOI antidepressant drugs like phenelzine.

As with any remedy, it is a good idea to discuss your health issues with your doctor before taking herbal supplements or vitamins. Use this book to catch those items your doctor might not even be aware of. Most physicians don't seem to be aware of the side effects of herbs and don't take a great interest in this area. That has been my experience. Once you know what works for you, I think you will see your doctor less and feel empowered that you can in fact help your body heal with your own knowledge.

Echinacea, olive leaf extract and oregano have literally been a miracle for me and my husband. Within about three days of catching a cold, we seem to recover and get on with life. Before, even on antibiotics, it took one to two weeks to get well.

I looked up Olive Leaf on page 44 and sure enough it is used to treat infections, including colds and ear infections. It contains oleuropein, that has been shown to kill bacteria and viruses. It also has been used for antibiotic qualities for more than 6,000 years! Talk about an ancient remedy. Echinacea is also a Native America remedy and then you have oregano which contains substances that are known to be antibiotic and antifungal. I take the capsules as the oil is rather intense and is not recommended for internal use.

I think if the author had spent a little more time developing the characters this would have been an OK book, but as it stands, it's not all that great. The "hatred" that Angela held toward Rafe seemed forced and shallow. It made her seem ignorant and stupid. I put hatred in quotations b/c if it was as strong as the writer was trying to make it, Angela would not have slept with him in the first place. I understand that her brother was hurt but that doesn't give anyone an excuse to hate an entire group. Angela's refusal to believe anyone but her criminal brother was the proof that she was ignorant and stupid. She ignored everything and everyone else but him which made her annoying and flat. She got on my nerves in the first scene she was in. Rafe was okay at first but b/c he kept putting up with Angela's crap it made him a punk. The book as a whole was a complete let down.

Not as bad as I thought.......2007-09-27

After reading the reviews I did not expect to like the book but it was not that bad. Yes the Angela character is rude, naieve, stupid, rude, prejudiced, did I say rude and not very likeable but there are people like that in real life. There are people with an intense hatred for the police yet who are they going to call when their house is robbed, yep the same hateful police. Rafe must have really loved her but at least he recognised he needed to develop some stones where she was concerned.
He came across wimpish in the beginning like he was whipped. Not sure how many decent guys like Rafe would have stuck it out, more likely they would have moved on. So if you don't mind reading a book where one of the main characters is not very likeable then you will enjoy this story.

A bit of a let down.......2007-09-08

I thoroughly enjoy Dyanne Davis' work. "The Color of Trouble" was brilliant, but Two Sides to Every Story was a huge let down. I found Angela to be immature, naive, and just plain dumb. I couldn't relate to her at all. I admired Rafe for sticking with her, because I don't know many men who would have put up with the twit. She just made me angry. And the love scenes were definitely disappointing. Mind you I'm comparing them to "The Color of Trouble" which had explosive love scenes. The love scenes in "Two Sides" were tame at best. I expected more from such an "intense" couple. Since I'm an avid collector of interracial romance novels, this book will stay in my library, but I don't know if it will get a second read.

Okay, Maybe I am a little biased. I am in Dyanne's fan club and I have read all but two of her books. This is by far in my top "Most Favorite Books Ever" list. I could tell you about the love of Rafe and Angela, but I just can't express it because you have to read it!!! They really are the one's for each other, and a testament to love. Odd as it may sound, I actually have known couples with the Fire-and-Ice relationships. A great story that made me want to meet my one 'Fire-and-Ice.'

This is just another rock "biography" that is nothing more than footage taken together from magazines and other books. Of course, there are no interviews with key member of AC/DC given specifically to this book (the Young brothers just don't permit it). All in all, there is absolutely nothing new here. I suggest you to read "Highway To Hell".

What can you say about a book that doesn't even manage to get Bon Scott's date of birth right? Seemingly cobbled together from fansites, old interviews and bits lifted from Clinton Walker's far superior tome on Bon Scott, this offered no fresh insight into the band or their history. The narrative was confusing and choppy and looked like a patchwork of third hand information. A long, rambling and inconclusive chapter about Bon's death did nothing to raise the stakes. The definative AC/DC book is out there somewhere, but this ain't it.

No complaints here. The writer's a fan and clearly enjoyed putting this thing together. I can always tell when someone did their homework and there's no doubt Stenning did. All eras are covered and there's pics in there too. The close attention paid to the late great Bon Scott's life and contribution to rock was very cool. If you want to learn everything about the boys from down under this is a good place to start.

AC/DC will always rock and this book explains why. They got the story right. The detail as to the early stages of the band is what I enjoyed above all else. The historic turning over of the reigns from Dave Evans to Bon Scott. I doubt there's ever been a single more important move in rock history as far as frontment go. Bon went from driving the band to gigs to literally driving the band to superstardom. It's tragic he passed at such a young age (33) and on the brink of worldwide domination. Brian took over and has done a fine job keeping the AC/DC juggernaut going strong but there will never be another one like Bon. All versions of the band are well covered and you have a discography plus more. If you're a fan of AC/DC you can't be without this book.
