Hot Hot Hot.......2004-07-25
From barbecue to curry, this is the place to find heat: dipping sauces, salsas, marinades, curry pastes, relishes and rubs. Each is introduced with a little history and serving suggestions and is rated on a heat scale. The book's introduction defines the various types of sauces and chapters are organized geographically and inclusive of the world.
The last chapter features dishes using the sauces. Appendices include mail order sources from throughout the U.S. and the world and the web. This is an everything you ever wanted to know -- and more -- book.
History, recipes and details of all hot sauces around !.......1999-07-08
If, like me, you get through dozens of bottles of hot sauce a week, you might be interested in this tome. As well as listing virtually every hot sauce on the planet (this takes up half the book !), it gives recipes of how to make your own copies of well known sauces (from Tabasco style hot sauce to Jamaican super hot).
It also gives useful recipes for barbeque style sauces (I can recommend the smokey chipotle sauce recipe, it's GREAT on ribs), and gives suppliers details and a few URLs for those who can't locate the ingredients they need.
All in all, a great book, but would have benefitted from a few more pics and a dash more colour.
Book Description
Smitten by a love of hot peppers, journalist Richard Schweid traveled to the capital of the U.S. hot sauce industry, New Iberia, Louisiana. This is Cajun country, and capsicum (as hot peppers are known botanically) thrive in the region's salty, oil-rich soil like nowhere else. At once an entertaining exploration of the history and folklore that surround hot peppers and a fascinating look at the industry built around the fiery crop, Schweid's book also offers a sympathetic portrait of a culture and a people in the midst of economic and social change.
This edition of Hot Peppers has been thoroughly updated and includes some twenty-five recipes for such deliciously spicy dishes as crawfish touffe, jambalaya, and okra shrimp gumbo.

Good for fondue lovers.......2005-10-11
I have one gripe about this cookbook-
The recipes are not one to a page. The way it is I find it difficult to find a recipe.
The recipes are very good. The nature of this cooking is that some recipes do require unusual ingredients. However, for the most part the recipes require easy to find ingredients.
The directions are easy to follow.
I enjoy this cookbook.
Enjoy.
printing errors.......2004-12-15
I ordered three copies of 'Fondues and Hot Pots' for Christmas gifts. One of the copies is fine. The second jumps from page 118 to page 215, then after the index jumps back to page 151. The third skips from page 118 to to page 183, then after 214 skips back to 151.
This book would've gotten four stars (great recipes and hints, but absence of pictures costs a point), but people ordering this book need to be on the lookout for similar printing errors.
An Absolutely WONDERFUL cookbook for Fondue lovers!!.......2004-01-14
This beautifully writtten and easy to follow cookbook is all you need to make your family and friends think you've recently graduated from one of the World's great chef schools. Susan Fuller Slack has written several of my favorite cookbooks on ethnic foods- "Japanese Cooking for the American Table" and " MEXICAN - Best of Old Mexico and the Modern Southwest", but this one is even better. It makes my mouth water just to write about it. You should definitely add this book to your kitchen library!

Yummie!!!.......1999-02-13
I too am a NASCAR fan, I bought this for that reason and I like to cook. I've made several of the recipies in here and they are all FANTASTIC!! I was actually a bit suprised, but I have really enjoyed all the dishes I have made. Each has been just the right amount of flavor and spice. Don't let the TABASCO scare you, each has enough to just bring out a wonderful flavor that will keep you trying new recipies every week!
Good Food & Great Coffee Table Book All in One!.......1998-11-20
Only picked it up because I am a NASCAR fan, NEVER used Tabasco in my life! I am NOW adding Tabasco to old recipes and they have a new life & zing to them!! The recipes in this book are as varied as the personalities of the people! At first some seemed a little "extreme" but they turn out wonderful! Also nice that proceeds from the book go to worthwhile charities!
Book Description
You need to lose weight, but how? It can be done. Ignore the Obesity Industrial Complex. The answer is within you.
The Hot Sauce Diet was created and successfully self-implemented by a physician. This behavioral modification approach is described with honest simplicity and an injection of humor.
There is one caveat; you need to use a lot of hot sauce.
Enjoy your journey.
Customer Reviews:
Cute concept.......2007-07-10
Not a bad book. I believe it is possible to lose weight on this, but I am not going to ruin my love of hotsauce by dumping a ton of it on everything I eat. But, I see how it works. Recommended for those out of control eaters.
What if you like hot sauce?.......2007-05-20
I eat very hot sauces, and I like them. How is hot sauce supposed to make me eat less?
Not impressed.......2007-03-09
Basically, just put hot sauce on everything. Get it hot enough and you will not eat as much. Duh! I thought there might be a little science to this, but it is just one man's success at loosing weight.
The Hot Sauce Diet: A Journey of behavior modification.......2007-02-15
This book presents a rather radical approach to weight loss. It is probably a good alternative to other approaches when the individual has a strong compulsion to eat. I know that it works because I know Dr. Antoniades and was amazed at his weight loss. Time will tell whether the weight remains off or if the diet is continued over a long period of time.
Hopefully, this approach can be used to gain control over the compulsion and lead to better eating habits without resorting to hot sauce.
Spice up your weight loss.......2007-02-14
What an enjoyable book. I bought it thinking that there was something chemical about hot sauce that helped one with weight loss. Turns out that the hot sauce is merely to help one eat more slowly, drink more water and punish yourself for eating when you should not. Dr. Antoniades presents the various aspects of weight loss clearly, logically and amusingly. It's only 50 pages that reads quite quickly. The information in this book and the right motivation is all anyone needs.
Book Description
A sizzling hot literary concoction of love, passion, drama, and the importance of trusting one's heart from two talented new voices in fiction. Brad Drake has come a long way from tiny Durgin City, Iowa. In his late 20s, he's a respected celebrity chef with a great apartment, a bustling social life, and a wonderful relationship with Troy Boston, a hip fashion designer and boutique owner. But Brad's world is suddenly shattered when a figure from Troy's past, the flamboyant Aria Shakespeare, shows up with damning evidence of Troy's infidelities. As spicy as a Bloody Mary with extra Tabasco, this tale of relationships, lies, and trust will keep readers enthralled-and frantic-until its final surprising pages.
Customer Reviews:
A sweet and savory blend of life and love!.......2007-02-23
This is just one of the interesting and intriguing books by the two Scotts. I throughly enjoyed the blending of two lives with very differnet backgrounds. Clothing designer Troy and celebrated chef Brad live in Boston and struggle to stay on track with loving each other and mananging their own choosen pursuits. Despite interference from one parent and a figure from Troy's past, love does triumph over all but not without a cost in trust. The ending is sweet and unlike any other the two Scotts have written. Be sure to read all of their books and I look forward to their newest when it is published.
A frothy concoction that will leave you yearning for love.......2007-02-04
I had seen "Hot Sauce" on the shelves for a while and finally broke down to purchase the novel after stumbling upon Scott and Scott's Romentics website. What a wonderful surprise - sure, the novel is nothing more than a beach read, but sometimes that's what's called for, even in the middle of the winter! If it's a fun read you want, "Hot Sauce" is it. Honest emotions between gay men, romantic situations, thoughtful plotting and hot love scenes propel this book head and shoulders above the gay erotica anthologies that are out there.
Another thing that makes "Hot Sauce" worthwhile is Scott and Scott's use of characterization. Troy and Brad aren't just figures used to move the story along; they are complex, real characters that readers can sympathize with. And they aren't one-dimensional - just when Troy becomes too full of himself, he does something that warms your heart. And Brad can be a bit annoying, but let's be honest, we've all felt the way he has at some time in out love lives. It's the characters that make "Hot Sauce" a novel that lingers after the last page.
The only drawback to the novel - could Brad be a little less obsessed with his body and other men's physiques? Seemed a little cliche.
"Hot Sauce" is a fun read, but my money is on "Spare Parts" and "Nick of Time" as the best Scott and Scott novels.
Very Good Book.......2006-12-27
I enjoyed the book. Loved the description. I couldn't get overly emotional about the plot. Usually when I read a romance, there is someone or something that gets your ire up. You feel bad for someone or you want to be someone in the book. I found that Troy was way too perfect and Brad (who sounded grand) was too insecure.
However, as usual, the descriptions are fantastic and the men are sexy.
Overall, I enjoyed reading the book. I would recommend it for those who love romance stories as it is a quick and fun read and you do end up hoping Brad and Troy can make it through their trials and tribulations.
Hot Boys, Hot Sex, Hot Romance.......2006-03-25
This book has the critical ingredient for a good tragedy ("Othello," maybe): each of the two lovers has an important flaw, and the flaws contribute mightily to a fight that nearly (and maybe should have) destroyed the relationship. Brad and Troy are lovers thinking of becoming life spouses, and they both have some wonderful qualities and are both deeply dedicated to their respective work. Brad is so expressive and open and adorable; he couldn't hide anything from his lover if he tried. Troy, on the other hand, is deeply closed in on himself, and that character trait led to near tragedy.
Brad has a flaw: his piddlingly low self-esteem: he's not sure he's good enough for rich, gorgeous, charismatic Troy. He isn't receiving all the reassurance and expressions of love he needs to hear articulated, and Troy takes him far too much for granted. Troy's flaw is MUCH worse: he hides too much from people. As outgoing a "glad hander" as he is, he doesn't communicate strong feelings well, especially with his own lover. He doesn't tell Brad about his life before they met ("too painful"), though it would've helped Brad deal with Troy's mother and other situations had he done so. Troy doesn't tell Brad the depth and nature of his love for his partner, though Brad in his insecurity needs to hear it. Worst of all, Troy doesn't tell Brad about some shenanigans he's involved with with a beautiful siren of a scumbag named Aria (he should have been named "Iago").
Troy's failure was not only ill-advised, it also led directly to a major fight and misunderstanding that nearly destroyed everything Troy and Brad both valued in life. Troy (though not Brad) would have deserved his fate had it done so, and his efforts basically did nothing to resolve the issues between them. Brad insecurities were played to very effectively by sleezebag "Aria," who had his own agenda. When Troy's reluctance to articulate his feelings and "private" thoughts and activities combines with his mother's mean-spirited interference (a mother-in-law from Hell, in Brad's justified view), Brad's insecurities and Aria's manipulations, fireworks result and Troy is forced to try to overcome his own inhibitions. Throw in two or three delightful friends (who basically resolve the conflict for the boys, yes, boys, because they both needed to grow up), some hot sex (and they don't fall into predictable patterns in their sex) and some good wonderful cuddling, and you get a fun, romantic read. Well worth the effort as a romantic comedy, though it might have been even better as a romantic tragedy.

Wish I'd given this book five stars instead of four. Sept 5, 2007.

Excellent variety of recipes.......2006-08-23
I enjoyed this book so much I had to purchase one for a friend! The book is inexpensive and I've had fun trying the various recipes to see which ones I liked the best. I also like the fact that some menus had canned items and some were for fresh items.
Not much spice.......2005-08-03
The 180 salsa recipes in this book could be reduced to 12 or so good ones. Many are simply repeats of others in the book with only very slight variations and a different name. I'm glad I got the book, because I will use the 12 good recipes, but don't buy it for 180. You'll be disappointed if you do.
Dynamite IS packed into a small package!.......1999-09-06
People have said powerful things come in small packages. Maybe that's why this "hot" book comes as a small thinner book. Salsa Lovers Cookbook comes with less than 130 pages, but is filled with "more than 180 sensational salsa recipes for appetizers, salads, main dishes & desserts!" Almost every page is filled with at least two recipes and I can't think of another salsa recipe that would possibly be missing from this collection.
This book starts out with an Anatomy of the Chile section with history, cooking ideas, tips and suggestions. The recipes go from an All Canned Salsa to an All Purpose Salsa to recipes like: Cherry Red Salsa; Instant Fire Salsa; New England Salsa; Any Meat Salsa, Avocado Salsa for Fish, Black Bean Salsa; Chili Cheese Salsa; Cucumber & Radish Salsa; Dry Salsa for Seasoning Steaks; Fresh Vegetable Salsa; Holiday Salsa; Madera Salsa; Mango Salsa; Pico de Gallo I through V; Salsa Carne; Salsa por Scallops; Salsa with Bourbon; Sweet Spicy Salsa; Yellow Fruit Salsa; Avocado Salsa for Salads; Salsa for Fruit Salad; Salsa for Watercress Salad; Banana Salsa; Champagne Salsa; Chocolate Salsa I through VI; Coffee Salsa; Orange Peach Salsa; Pineapple Dessert Salsa; Raisin & Rum Salsa; and Wine Salsa for Fruit.
Almost every recipe has ingredient readily available and can be made in only a few minutes. This is one of the only cookbooks that I can remember seeign that has each section in alphabetical order for very easy reference. Some of the recipes, in my opinion, have stretched the definition of Salsa, and some are a little-off-the-wall, however this is one of those fun books to add to your shelf.

Great For the devout Chileheads.......1998-03-24
I love the book mainly for the descriptions of the many hot sauces listed, as well as a look at the actual bottles. As a collector, it has helped me save a bit of time looking around the shelves for some of the sauces. The only drawback to this book is that while there is a listing of some of the hot sauce catalogs, there is little information on actually contacting the manufacturers. After scouring several catalogs I still can't find a some of the sauces in the book. Overall, I'd heartily recommend it to other hotheads and fans of the fire.

Book Description
"Tabasco sauce is an indispensable ingredient, and always on my kitchen counter. I am a loyal Fan."
Pierre Franey
The world would be a much blander place without that familiar little red bottle with the white diamond label.
Ever since Edmund McIlhenny introduced his soon-to-be-famous pepper sauce in 1868, raw oysters and Bloody Marys have depended on that definitive dash to make them complete. Now, Paul McIlhenny unbottles the authoritative cookbook on this very special sauce. It's no surprise that a generous amount of Tabasco sauce adds heat and bite to foods, but The Tabasco Cookbook reveals that a judicious amount will add "roundness" to flavors in a multitude of ways.
Tempting recipes range from contemporary offerings such as Potato, Artichoke, and Leek Soup, Devil's Chicken, and Lemon Sesame Asparagus to a host of Tabasco Classics -- regional favorites such as Eula Mae's Cajun Seafood Gumbo, Grillades for Brunch, Shrimp Creole, and Dirty Rice. Each recipe is rated from (gives flavors a lift) to (not for the meek) according to its piquancy level, and simple tips on using Tabasco sauce to heighten the flavor of everything from popcorn to polenta are sprinkled throughout the pages.
The Tabasco Cookbook is filled with vignettes describing the venerable history of the pepper sauce and the family-run company behind it, as well as bits of trivia and lore revealing elusive facts, such as what a "petit baton rouge" is (page 130). With more than thirty-five duotone photographs from the McIlhenny archives, The Tabasco Cookbook brings to life the history behind one of America's most classic ingredients.
So don't just reach for the Tabasco sauce when you're thinking "hot": Tabasco sauce is the perfect solution whenever flavors need a lift.

Just what I payed for.......2007-01-19
This book made a great gift for my brother for christmas. Unlike some people who have purchased this item, I knew exactly what I was buying. This was a fair price to pay for anyone who collects tabasco gear or just loves the product. The book was full of facts, tips, and recipes to try. It went along perfectly will the rest of my Tabasco brand Christmas theme.
This cookbook is too short.......2001-08-22
Who better is there than Paul McIlhenny to write a Tabasco Sauce cookbook? The recipes in this book are simple to prepare and tasty. I just made one of the omelette recipes featured in this book. It consisted of four ingredients, one of which (beer) I never imagined I'd put in an omelette. It was great and took five minutes to pull together. Some other recipes worth trying are "Zydeco Green Beans", "Potato, Artichoke & Leek Soup" and "Walter McIlhenny's Chili".
McIlhenny includes alot of interesting Tabasco-usage tips. For example, he recommends adding a drop to a glass of cola. After my beer-in-the-omelette episode, I'm willing to try Tabasco in my Coke. He includes alot of Tabasco history and Tabasco trivia which I could have done without. But, overall, this is a pretty good cookbook. I just wish the space taken up by history and trivia had been used for more recipes.
One of the best "niche" cookbooks around........1999-09-06
This cookbook utilizes Tabasco sauce in all the recipes, but they are not all firey hot. Rather, this cookbook uses Tabasco like a spice or flavoring agent, to add dimension to all kind of recipes.
I highly recommend this to anybody that likes good food and likes their food to have flavor instead of just heat.
