Great information!.......2007-07-15
Everyone should read this. It contains great information regarding the foods we eat every day!
parasites for laymen.......2007-05-15
this book explains as it goes. it is an easy read and very informative. The information portrayed is accurate from aparasitologists point of view. This is not a read for the squimish.
Must Read!.......2007-03-20
This book is an absolute must read, especially for those plagued by Morgellons mites, dermatologists, doctors, school nurses and health care professionals. Although there is no mention about Morgellons, the insights gleaned from this book about parasites and their life cycles will help anyone with a bug problem. Pretty technical but she gets you through it with unforgettable stories. It will certainly motivate you to clean your home and bedding. 80% Clear & Getting There
Good Book on a Much Neglected Health Problem.......2006-11-09
I recently read about parasite infections in First Magazine. In the magazine, it is stated that a person just needs to follow the author's herbal medicine protocol to rid the body of parasites. It came as a surprise to me that lots of pharmaceuticals were offered up as treatment in this book.
Overall, the book was well written, researched and easy to read. The reader will get an in depth description of the various types of parasites, their symtoms, their geographical region and treatment. Also covered is ways of living to prevent parasite infections in the first place.
Everyone should read a book on this subject. I think lots of parasite infections are diagnosed as other things.
Profound reading! A 'must-read' for doctors and everyone!.......2006-03-22
This is a phenomenal and shocking book which everyone should read, especially and including doctors. Parasite related disorders (and there are many) in North America are skyrocketing, contends the author Ann Louise Gittleman, and has become a hidden epidemic and cause for much mis-diagnosis. Since 60% of U.S. households alone have either a dog or a cat, the chapter on pets titled 'Mans Best Friend' is worth your attention alone. You will never let your dog kiss you (lick your face) again! Of course, parasites can invade your body in a myriad of ways ignored by most people, whether you have a pet or not, and can live inside you for up to 30 years and cause many symptoms and discomfort, or worse. Ignore this book at your peril.

Thank you for getting this information out to the public. This book is FULL of necessary info and great ideas to well equip my children to be the healthiest they can be. And it's been great for my husband and I as well - not just for kids!
Amazing set of two Books!.......2007-04-10
The author makes it easy for parents to implement eating solutions their kids will love. Most books address the issue -- this one solves it! If you have kids or grand kids that are members of the 'junk-food generation' this is one book you can't do without. Its on our kitchen counter and we refer to it daily for meals and information. The book even includes an 'approved' shopping list -- all tested on kids! If Amazon had a 10 star rating -- this one would certainly get it.
Great book!.......2007-03-16
This book literally changed our lives and my family and I are healthier and feeling so much better because of it. It was the final straw we needed to completely switch over to all natural and organic foods. An easy read and totally logical and upbeat - I highly recommend this book and this lifestyle!

Customer Reviews:
didn't really like the book.......2007-07-30
Probably just me, but I really didn't find any of the recipes interesting.
Delicious yes, but far from every night of the week.......2003-03-12
I adore Martha, her style, her books, and her website... but I have to be honest about this one. I throw dinner parties up at school all the time and so I was thrilled to have a dinner party with these recipies. True- you can use one or two recipies for a quick easy side (think desserts here) but I made the delicious asian noodle meal and not only did it take an hour of prep time for julienning veg and other things, but when my guests arrived, not only was I not finished preparing, but I wasnt even close. It ended up taking my guests pitching in... fun but not what I had planned. It took four of us almost 2 hours to make it . It was so delicious, and also so impossible to make unless you have TONS of spare time and are planning on taking at least 2 hours to make .
Just so I am clear- DELICIOUS FOOD THAT TAKES TONS OF TIME (at least that is if you arent a professional chef)
Good food in here.......2002-12-07
These are the cards from the back of the magazine for a few years, all gathered as menus designed to make dinner for four in about an hour. The turkey and green chile burritos are good, and the coffee custard is outstanding; they are from Menu 7, andthe whole thing is great. The citrus marinated pork chops are also delicious. If you like cookies, the Oatmeal Lace cookies are fabulously rich and sweet. My favorite is the Mocha Shortbread Wedges recipe--has to be the easiest dessert ever, not too sweet, and really quick and easy.
Never lets me down.......2001-11-14
I first stumbled across this little cookbook in a used book store in the middle of nowhere. Everyone in the family had $5. to spend and boy did I get my money's worth...and so did my family for that matter because every recipe is a gem. It is now my standard gift to newer cooks who are setting up house and entertaining - the listing of what to do in which order is great for the less experienced and some of the combinations of foods are unusual but always work - I tried another Martha book and was disappointed - this one is a keeper!
Helpful..........2001-11-03
For someone who lives alone and wants to impress guests... this is for you... Enjoy! I did! Thank you Martha :-)

Book Description
This companion to the popular What's for Lunch? poses the question everyone asks come late afternoon: What's for dinner? In this bubbly, oversized flap book, the answers are a real treat! Each animal's mouth opens wide to reveal its favorite critter meal. The cat eats the mouse, the walrus slurps up clams, the frog zaps the fly, and more. Like its predecessor, this book ends with a round-faced child eating what kids like best--a hot dog!
With a jolly rhyme and bold, friendly illustrations, this eye-catching book makes a great read-aloud. The flaps are big and easy to open--there are even two flaps-within-flaps--and offer sound words inside (slurp, gulp, crunch). A well-balanced meal, indeed!
Customer Reviews:
My little guy loves this one.......2005-07-25
My little guy loves this book. He is 13 months old now, and loves to lift the flaps while I read the story. He cries when it's over and we close the book. Definately his favorite in our collection

Cookbook.......2007-03-28
Every cookbook by this author is outstanding. Great, simple, easy to understand recipes with simple ingredients.
One of My Most Often Used Books!.......2005-06-12
This is a book that easily answers the question posed by the title. I've yet to have a recipe from its pages fail; much to the contrary, everything turns out great! Even the time I had some aging mushrooms in the fridge and decided to make the Cream of Mushroom soup, wondering why I was bothering to make such a simple thing -- I was blown away! Highly recommended for everyone from beginners to experienced cooks.
A must have!.......2002-01-18
We were given this book by a friend several years ago and it is a staple on our shelf, to the point that it is starting to fall apart! Every recipe has been fairly easy and delicious, received "rave" reviews from the diners on hand, and everyone to whom we've subsequently given the book has said it is one of the best. This is definitely the cookbook to have on hand when you need to whip together a meal, don't want to spend more than an hour doing it, and still have it taste like you were in the kitchen all day. It is the only "published" cookbook that comes with us when we go on summer vacation.
Practical and Reasonably Priced.......2002-01-15
I must have recipes for anything I cook. I cannot just go the cupboard, pick out some ingredients, and dream up a meal.
This cookbook is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Every recipe I have used thus far is great....would serve to company. Plus, she makes nice suggestions as to sides to serve with the entrees. I am so happy with this book that I have now ordered her cookbook on Pacific Coast recipes.
Best cookbook to have on your shelf.......1999-03-31
We bought this cookbook on a whim (we liked the title) and have found it is now the first one we reach for when company is coming or the kids are tired of chicken and mac-n'cheese. The recipes are easy to do, many can be prepared in advance, and the author makes life easier by recommending accompanying side dishes and desserts. Every recipe we've tried has been a "winner". For a family on the go, this cookbook has made having a real dinner possible!
Amazon.com's Best of 2001
It may be true that we are what we eat. Now, with a flood of genetically modified foods overtaking the market, it is possible to eat what we are. But the prospect of genetic cannibalism is the least of the worries of food activists, and journalist Bill Lambrecht's Dinner at the New Gene Café follows both sides of the genetically modified organism (GMO) debate with vigor. He's been covering the story since the mid-1980s, interviewing agricultural officials, biotech industry executives, family farmers, and protesters to build a comprehensive understanding of the issues.
Lambrecht's writing, clear and direct, explains the science and politics plainly enough that even those who flunked Biology or Poli Sci 101 can understand his arguments. He is equally skeptical of the claims of industry shills and activists, and often shakes his head in wonder at the incompetence of government agencies. From academic conferences to the Battle for Seattle, he's seen every aspect of the GMO wars, as they ignited in Europe and slowly spread across the world and eventually penetrated the U.S. Peppered with short essays on his own illegal home experiments with GMO seeds, Dinner at the New Gene Café offers readers insight into a growing question that will most likely define our menu choices for many years to come. --Rob Lightner
Book Description
Biotech companies are racing to alter the genetic building blocks of the worlds food. In the United States, the primary venue for this quiet revolution, the acreage of genetically modified crops has soared from zero to 70 million acres since 1996. More han half of Americas processed grocery productsfrom cornflakes and granola bars to diet drinkscontain genetically altered ingredients. But the U.S., unlike other democratic nations overseas, does not require labeling of modified food.ournalist Bill Lambrecht has covered these issues extensively from the beginning. In Dinner at the New Gene Caf, he lays out the battle lines of the impending collision between a powerful but unproved ?echnology and a gathering resistance from people worried about the safety of genetic change.
Customer Reviews:
Could be more concise.......2007-02-21
Although I second the other revierw here, I must add that this book could be some 100 pages shorter and still hit the mark. The way it is, Lambrecht uses too much words to deliver his message.
Also, because of the subject matter itself, the book is a bit outdated.
Other than that, good reading material.
balanced reporting.......2007-01-30
I was a little wary when purchasing this book that the entire premise would be zealotish anti-GMO and anti-biotechnology. The quotes on the cover seemed to indicate that would also be the case. I was extremely pleased to find a very balanced reporting of both sides of the genetic engineering debate. The author has been a reporter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for over 2 decades, and has been covering the debate and progress since its inception. His style is engaging and fast-paced, with humor and human interest sprinkled in to lighten a complex topic. He seems to lean toward the side of caution, but gives full reporting to the biotech companies' claims and biotech's proponents' enthusiasm. I personally am hopeful of the promise and potential of this technology, but this book helped me understand opponents' fears in a very sympathetic way. Particularly frightening was the disclosure of some of the big biotech firms' less-than-open trials and political influences. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about the issues involved in genetically engineering our food.
a comprehensive look at gmo's.......2003-12-19
This book was very enlightening in the subject of GMO's, as they are a powerful new technology with frightening implications. Lambrecht uses entertaining anecdotes and accounts of his dealings with ordinarys farmer and head agricultural powerfigures. I recommend this book because it tried to show an objective perspective on the entire issue, and left no voice unheard.
The new age of eating.......2003-03-14
If you are curious about what you are eating this is a necessary book for you. Bill Lambrecht provides an unbiased resource for those intrested in the history of GMO food. Lambrecht gives the opinions of scientists, politicians and the farmers that grow these crops. This provides a balenced collage of information that allows anyone to make up their own mind about what the future of food should be.
Book Description
The What's-for-Dinner Cookbook is the brainchild of two friends who for years had asked themselves, What are we going to have for dinner? as they thought of how they would feed their families every evening. The result is a cookbook and kitchen planner designed to help organize the kitchen, plan meals a week at a time, and organize shopping so that the ingredients needed for every meal are available at the right time.
Based on the four seasons of the year, the book provides five days of planned, well-balanced dinners for every week. The recipes are kitchen-tested family favorites with an emphasis on fresh seasonal foods, thus encouraging homemakers to save significant money by purchasing ingredients when they are most abundant. Most of the recipes can be prepared in 30 minutes or less. They are presented in such a way that leftovers, such as chicken or roast, can be included in meals planned for later in a week.
Quick tips designed to save time and expense are also included. These address such practical matters as when to shred extra cheese or chop an additional onion for use later in the week, which can save time in preparing meals. Extensive weekly and bulk shopping lists are coded by day to allow for family tastes or the requirements of special diets.
The What's-for-Dinner Cookbook is perfect for busy moms, new parents and working parents, newlyweds and those who have cooked for their families for years. Never worry about dinner again. The planning is already done. COOKING; COOKBOOKS 7 X 9, 368 PAGES PAPERBACK
Customer Reviews:
Tomatoes in spring (huh?) and instant white rice.......2006-12-21
I was very disappointed with this cookbook. It claims to use fresh, seasonal foods, then has you using tomatoes in spring and instant white rice (along with many other prepackaged, processed "foods"). Maybe tomatoes are a spring veggie in California (which is where the authors live), but they're a _summer_ veggie here in Michigan! I guess if you're so busy that you can only take 30 minutes to cook dinner and don't mind eating less nutritive food, this might be a good cookbook for you, but if you want truly fresh, seasonal, good-tasting, REAL food recipes, buy _Simply in Season_ by Mary Beth Lind and Cathleen Hockman-Wert instead.
Less planning, more free time, great gift!.......2006-08-29
I absolutely love, love, love this cookbook! I hate to cook! But now I'm enjoying it because I no longer have to plan meals or make shopping lists it's all done for me! I love the recipes, they're simple and time saving. The shopping lists are divided buy catagory and if you don't want to make a particular meal the items are numbered so you can quickly and easily delete them from the list! This is a well thought out cookbook! My family and friends all want one! Needless to say, I'm ordering more!
I'm returning mine!.......2004-07-25
What a disappointment!
There is no nutritional information for any of the recipes. Although the recipes have minimal prep time (15-30 minutes), many require over an hour cook time. Also, the recipes have numerous ingredients - lots of cream of soups and fillers - blech! This is NOT a good cookbook for a busy mom who wants to know the nutritional value of meals. I am sending mine back for a refund.
Enhanced with time-saving tips & seasonal menus at a glance.......2002-08-10
The What's-For-Dinner Cookbook is a superbly presented, highly recommended kitchen planner specifically designed by Kathleen Botta and Claire Mendonca to be a "user friendly" organizers for the kitchen so that busy cooks can plan meals a week at a time, organize shopping so that the ingredients needed for every meal is available at the right time, and to have a more economically, nutritionally, and seasonally advantageous dining experience for the family. A wonderful compendium of recipes ranging from Tuna-Water Chestnut Casserole; Armenian Shish Kebabs; and Garlic Prawns; to Beefy Onion Pie; Spicy and Sweet Pork Chips; and Korean Stew, The What's-For-Dinner Cookbook is additionally enhanced with time-saving tips and seasonal menus at a glance.
Book Description
James Schuyler's utterly original What's for Dinner? features a cast of characters who appear to have escaped from a Norman Rockwell painting to run amok. In tones that are variously droll, deadpan, and lyrical, Schuyler tells a story that revolves around three small-town American households. The Delehanteys are an old-fashioned Catholic family whose twin teenage boys are getting completely out of hand, no matter that their father is hardly one to spare the rod. Childless Norris and Lottie Taylor have been happily married for years, even as Lottie has been slowly drinking herself to death. Mag, a recent widow, is on the prowl for love. Retreating to an institution to dry out, Lottie finds herself caught up in a curious comedy of group therapy manners. At the same time, however, she begins an ascent from the depths of despair—illuminated with the odd grace and humor that readers of Schuyler's masterful poetry know so well—to a new understanding, that will turn her into an improbable redeemer within an unlikely world.
What's for Dinner? is among the most delightful and unusual works of American literature. Charming and dark, off-kilter but pedestrian, mercurial yet matter-of-fact, Schuyler's novel is an alluring invention that captures both the fragility and the tenacity of ordinary life.
