Author's Comment.......2006-10-22
The book is not for ages 4-8. It is for ages 8-Adult. Originally it was marketed in the education market for grades 4-8. Even though I have communitcated with the publisher this mistake has been repeated by nearly everyone selling the book. This is a perfect example of something "falling through the cracks".
Extrordinary Book.......2004-03-04
Simply said, this book is genius. I know Carolyn personally, she put forth an extrordinary amount of work and effort and has dedicated much of her time to this project. It shows. This book will be a great asset to anyone wishing to improve their education system, private or public.
A MUST READ!!!!.......2001-12-10
My art teacher at the University of North Texas, read this book to our class as closure before our final. That was the first time that I have heard about this book and the book made me realize that many students do get lost through the cracks. This book is good for anyone going into education.
Through The Cracks.......1999-12-12
Through The Cracks is the most powerful book I have encountered in my 25 years in education. It is in storybook format but its greatest impact will be when this book is shared with educators, parents, and communities who desire to see education become what it is meant to be - active, involved, exciting, and fun. I have read this book aloud to hundreds of educators in college classrooms and workshop presentations. The response is overwhelming every time.
This book is very enlightening to educators and parents........1998-08-17
I found this book to be very enlightening to both educators and parents. It helps remind us about the importance of integrating curriculum in schools and certainly to include the arts in that integration. I was pleased to see that it did address special needs children as well as children who simply don't fit the mold of a traditional lecture approach to teaching. It is especially unique in that the information is presented in a children's book format.

Awesome streamlined and humorous review!.......2006-06-17
I used this along with Nelson's to prep for recert exam in 2004. It really helped and I learned quite a bit that was asked. It was worth every penny and made the review enjoyable and almost fun! Definitely would but it again. And now in 2006 there is a new, 3rd edition out! Good luck!
The only review book I used.......2006-04-19
Beeing the lazy bum I am, I waffled till about 8 weeks prior to the boards then scrambled to find a suitable review reference. I wasted 2 weeks and a couple of hundred dollars on two different and equally useless board review books and was starting to panic. Then lo and behold I got a mailing about this book (someone up there must be looking out for me) and it sounded interesting. I read the testimonials online and figured that at this stage I had nothing to lose, so I ordered it along with the crossword and mock board companion books. No it's not cheap, but definitely cheaper than paying the board fee again...
I read it twice from cover to cover as it was an incredibly easy read and definitely entertaining, even though some of the mnemonics and humor were a little over the top (in my opinion still funny though). I only had time to do a few of the crossword puzzles in the companion book which I found to be an excellent and fun way to solidify information. The mock board exam was useless however as the questions were poorly written and I largely skipped it.
I passed! Is this book for everybody? Probably not, especially if you do not have a very loose sense of humor. Remember, this is not some stodgy authoritative reference but a streamlined and filtered board essentials text. It is VERY easy to read which I think is its major appeal.
So I highly recommended, just not eight weeks before the boards unless you have (b... oops) nerves of steel or a very laid back personality...
My board review savior!.......2006-01-23
6 weeks was all I spent studying for these boards. During those weeks I probably read through this book once, with repeated looking up when I came accross some questions. This was basically my main text. Although by no means thorough, it was extremely high yield. And if you think about it.. I'd rather have 75% of the information for the boards down pat rather than knowing very little about 99% of the topics. What also helped were the two question books also published by this company. It helped to solidify the information in the main text. Along with 4 years worth of PREP questions, that was basically all of my studying material. And I passed, with room to spare. Now mind you, I wouldn't recommend anybody studying in the time frame I did for this exam, but I do recommend the use of this book as a supplement to your studying.
The bad? Well, lotsa errors... but you can download the PDF of all the corrections from the website. I also think they go too far sometimes trying to use weird memory techniques and mnemonics. Sometimes it was just easier for me to memorize them without the use of remembering a strange story or situation.
But overall... good content. I'm glad I used this book.
Worth every penny.......2005-11-16
My wife used this book to study for the boards for the last few months & waited until she took them to write this review. This book was EXCELLENT. It focused on points that were all over her exam. The books explanations were concise & really stressed the IMPORTANT points to focus on in order to pass, along with some humor. It made studying for the exam bearable. I highly RECOMMENDED this book to anyone who wants to PASS their peds board exam.
Somewhat helpful but overpriced.......2005-11-02
I ended up borrowing a friend's copy of this book since I couldn't stomach spending so much money for a book filled with someone else's bad jokes. I'd say only a handful of the mnemonics are helpful or easy to remember. But I will give the book credit for covering the majority of what shows up on the actual exam. Reading this book is like having one of your seniors sit down and tell you what came on his/her own board exam and how to recognize the answer. This book suggests that you can supplement with PREP. In fact, if you use this book, PREP should be your primary source and this can be used as a supplement. I took off one star for content (deficiencies and bad mnemonics and one star for the cost relative to content).
Pros:
*good intro explaining approach to studying and exam taking including helpful hints
*some mnemonics are helpful
*does not read like a text
*very good for metabolic/genetic disorders
*accurately covers majority of content on exam
Cons:
*expensive for content
*majority of mnemonics are too hard to remember (might as well just memorize the facts themselves)
*organization not easy to figure out -- not easy to flip to topic of interest
*little to no pathophysiology covered -- something asked quite a bit in the exam
*often does not give specific treatment
*not enough on development, behavior, ethics
*no pictures, EKGs, graphs, etc
Book Description
Whatever you're struggling with, you're not alone: there's a saint who is not only praying for you before the throne of God, but who went through the same thing you're going through. In Saintly Solutions, Fr. Joseph Esper introduces you to over 350 saints who suffered in ways that you and I suffer every day, and who will bring you, too, to peace!
Fr. Esper considers over forty of life's common problems, showing how saints overcame these challenges and difficulties, and even grew holier as they did so. Better yet, he explains how you can, too.
In each chapter, Fr. Esper includes thought-provoking quotes from saints for further reflection, a practical section entitled "Something you might try," and solid recommendations for further reading. That makes Saintly Solutions immensely valuable for everyone who struggles with life's common problems and wants to face them with the unquenchable joy of the saints!

Disappointing.......2006-02-25
I was looking for a book about how the saints handled life's common problems, as promised by the title of the book. What I found were basically lists of saints, most of them unfamiliar to me even as a Catholic of pre-Vatican vintage. There is no information as to how the saints dealt with their issues and temptations, only information that they battled these problems. I regret spending the money for the book. Don't waste yours.
Fantastic! Extremely Helpful!.......2005-12-30
This is a fantastic book! Whatever problem you are struggling with, you will find an answer and help here. And if you just enjoy reading about the Saints, you will find this book excellent for that as well.
Fr. Esper takes many different common problems and then shares which Saints also struggled with these problems or sins. He shares how they overcame the problem, and what other Saints also may have had to say. He shares relevant scripture and quotes from the Saints. He then provides an extremely helpful section called "What you might try" that offers concrete suggestions for conquoring sin and dealing with problems in a holy manner.
This is a very complete and inspiring volume. I can't recommend it highly enough - it is wonderful!
I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS BOOK! .......2005-08-23
I started reading it at a time when I knew there were serious flaws in my attitude, only I couldn't figure out exactly why, or what to do about them. I'm also poor at reading the Bible and other spiritual books. This book was exactly what I needed! Each day I would read about the worst problem I was having (starting with IRRITATION!), and the stories about the saints who faced those same problems were outstanding. It helped me immensely. The list of problems covered is also very well thought out and realistic. I hope to progress to reading books written by the saints, but reading Fr. Esper's excerpts was much easier for me at this time.
One of the things I love most about this book is Fr. Esper's selection of topics: anger, depression, unpopularity, gluttony, and so many more ... how amazing to find a book with topics I can relate to so well! Some of my favorites thus far have been "irritations" and "gloominess."
Lastly, I'm amazed that Fr. Esper is sufficiently acquainted with such a wide number of saints as to be able to quote so many of them on each of these somewhat obscure topics. What a treasure trove of education and inspiration! This has truly helped me more than years of therapy!
Saints are good friends.......2004-10-01
I found Saintly Solutions to be a wonderful way to find out what the Saints did to handle life's tough situations. Their model is put in a readable & fun format. At the end of each chapter (temptation) are resources for prayer, more quotes by Saints & ideas to overcome temptation. I've found this book a great resource & comfort for myself & in teaching teens in my parish.
Saintly Solutions.......2002-07-15
This is a wonderful format for looking at the lives of Saints. This book shows how the saints have conquered problems that we all have to face. I highly recommend this book.
Book Description
Though we have hundreds of entertainment options today--video games, the Internet, CD and MP3 players, home entertainment centers, sporting events, megamalls, movie theaters, and even robotic toys--Western culture is battling an insidious disease. It's an epidemic of boredom.Intrigued by this "deadness of soul," Richard Winter uses the latest historical, physiological and psychological research to probe the nature, causes and effects of boredom. He explores
- why some people are more likely to get bored than others
- the indifference and the loss of meaning among youth
- the attraction of extreme sports
- how advertising promotes apathy
- the link between boredom and addictions to violence and pornography
Not satisfied with mere description and analysis, Winter also offers practical ways to counteract boredom by learning to live with passion and wonder. So don't just turn on the TV, surf all the available channels and complain "there's nothing on." Instead, read this book!

Good Book.......2006-07-11
This book is a great psychological and theological exploration of the nature and causes of boredom, along with some tips about how Christians can beat it. There's a lot of really great material in here -- modern Americans are so bored not because we don't have enough to entertain us but because we have too much to entertain us; our consumer culture and the ubiquity of advertising has trained us to always move on to the next great thing, but has also attenuated our ability to appreciate these greater and greater thrills, leading us to seek ever more astounding highs and novelty in extreme sports and hardcore pornography; a simple solution to this malaise of boredom is available to Christians if we cultivate gratefulness and a spirit of fascination with all things, even repetition.
I really loved this book because it didn't just take the theological, Ecclesiastes, all-is-vanity-just-love-it-and-live-it approach to the topic, and neither did it take the literary, longing-for-longing, weight-of-glory, God-is-younger-than-us tack. Instead, Winter weighed in with a fantastic and fascinating psychological analysis, while still infused with all the rigor and magic of the theological and literary approaches. Great stuff!
Boredom: diagnosed and treated.......2004-08-21
"Despite its extraordinary variety of diversions and resources, its frenzy for spectacles and its feverish pursuit of entertainment, America is bored. The abundance of efforts made in the United States to counter boredom have defeated themselves, and boredom has become the disease of our time" (13).
If this is true and boredom is the disease of our time, then Richard Winter is the physician who has studied boredom's pathology and holds out a promising cure. Beginning with an investigation into the causes of boredom, Winter commences by considering how understimulation, repetition and a sense of disconnection all contribute to boredom. He differentiates two varieties of boredom (short-term and longer-term boredom). And then, in light of what appears to be a marked increase in boredom in recent years, considers how an increase in leisure time, a dependence upon technology, and the overstimulation produced by the hydra of the entertainment and advertising industries, each contribute to complacency and relate to boredom.
Throughout the mid chapters, Winter angles his investigation to include further psychological and historical factors. Why some people are more likely to get bored than others is the first question to be discussed. Distinguishing between boredom, depression and the apathy of grief follows. This second topic is dealt with at greater length with the reader being treated to a `trip back in time' in order to compare the contemporary phenomena of boredom with experiences of boredom in medieval times. While the author appears concerned that his readers may not want to traverse the ages with him, I am sure most will; especially as it is here that boredom is best described and we are brought face-to-face with the phenomena of boredom and its various guises.
In the later chapters, Winter relates the rise of boredom to three things: "the decline of Christianity, the sense of entitlement to happiness and an emphasis on subjective experience or on following my inner desires" (87). He also treats the fruits of boredom, which can be summarized as sexual addiction, increased aggression, and risk taking. Most importantly of all, our good physician prescribes a number of biblically grounded and practically oriented ways of counteracting boredom. This culminates in a final chapter entitled "Why Get Up in the Morning?" A gentle and gracious reminder of our need to respond to God and to look to Him as the One who not only enables us to patiently endure our moments of frustration and boredom, but who transforms us and provides us with a passion for living.
While Winter's book leaves room for much more to be said, yet it remains a useful introduction to what I believe will be one of the major pastoral concerns of the 21st century. As a primer on boredom's causes and consequences, this work has two main strengths. First, it helps us to comprehend some of the complexities of the society we now live in. For as Winter ably demonstrates, boredom is a fascinating lens through which to view and better understand certain attitudes and activities that are the hallmarks of contemporary culture. Second, this work extends real help to pastors and counselors as they increasingly identify and deal with the spiritual havoc that boredom can produce in the lives of those whom they shepherd and serve. Indeed, those alert to the ways in which boredom robs us of our appetite for God will find suggestions for awakening and enlivening bored people, as well as clues to orienting the gospel message to those whose hearts are heavy, souls are numb and whose rote response is... `whatever'.
Winsomely written and a fresh reminder of the applicability of biblical truth to everyday concerns, Still Bored in a Culture of Entertainment is a useful book that will spark discussion and hopefully spawn further work in this area.
more theology than psychology.......2004-03-01
I bought this book on a whim because I liked the title. It began well, outlining some basic psychological research on boredom with a very accessible writing style. The book examines the nature of boredom, different varieties of boredom, and how personality is related to boredom. There is even a little personality test you can take to see how prone to boredom you are. I believe that the author is on target when he says that overstimulation and an excess of easy entertainment are the primary causes of boredom in our culture.
Unfortunately, about halfway through the book, there is a dramatic shift in tone where the author abruptly begins to relate everything to his Christian world view. This was a surprise because the cover and the information on the back of the book say nothing about religion, though it is clear that this was the purpose of the book all along. I felt rather deceived, as if I had just let a missionary into my home under false pretense. We are told that a meaningless life causes boredom, and that the only way to avoid meaninglessness is through religious faith. The author fails to convince at this point, especially after his previous discussion of the problem of boredom in early Christian monks! On very little argument or evidence, humanistic philosophies and "tolerance" are blasted as causing boredom and the rest of society's ills. Hmm, where have I heard this before?
The book ends with recommendations that borrow heavily from Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's research on flow and the statement that we need to "serve" God if we are going to have a good and meaninful life. I consider this book more propaganda than anything else, and cannot recommend it.
Fine Analysis of Boredom Hit from Many Angles.......2003-04-15
Still Bored in a Culture of Entertainment
by Richard Winter (IVP, 2002)
reviewed by Ed Vasicek
Still Bored in a Culture of Entertainment discusses the rise of boredom in modern culture from a Christian perspective. Winter, a Psychiatrist and theology professor at Covenant Seminary (in St. Louis) looks at the subject of boredom from various angles.
He discusses the two main types of boredom (short term and the more permanent type), analyzes trends in modern culture that nurture boredom (over stimulation and constant entertainment), and how personality types make one more or less prone to boredom. He also documents how boredom has been viewed over the ages.
Winter analyzes how post-modern philosophy contributes toward indifference and meaninglessness, how boredom encourages addictive behavior or risk taking, and then offers a battle plan for the Christian to tackle boredom through six steps (remember the big picture, delight in the simple and ordinary, cultivate wonder, develop strong interests, actively engage instead of passively expecting others to initiate).
Some quotables include: "Boredom is a subtle form of negative thinking...", "...to the contemporary mind, goodness and beauty often seem boring and unstimulating...", and, "experience and intuition are supported by research that has found links between boredom and all sorts of negative states of mind and behavior..."
Much of the material in this book can be expanded upon by reading these three volumes, "Bowling Alone", "Natural Prozac", and "The Overspent American." I think this is a fine book, though a bit boring at times (sorry, but it is true!). Good stuff nonetheless.
Insightful analysis of our daily search for stimulation.......2003-03-17
After having the privilege of hearing Dr. Winter speak on this and other subjects this January, I was eager to read his latest written work.
This book appealed to me on many levels: As someone who knows very little about psychology, it provided a good primer on the root causes of boredom; as a parent-to-be, it left me with plenty to chew on (I especially enjoyed the treatment of the effect of delayed gratification in children); and as a student of Popular Culture, it encouraged me to more carefully consider my diet of information and entertainment.
Perhaps most importantly, however, this book challenged me to seek out the day-to-day beauty and wonder to be found in creation.
I highly recommend this well-written work.

A Good Read!.......2001-09-06
Mihaly Csikszentmihaly presents a detailed examination of motivation based on a study of a half-dozen groups of people involved in recreational pursuits: rock climbers, composers, dancers, chess players and basketball players. He chose these groups in an effort to understand more fully what motivates people to engage in activities that are extremely challenging or offer few external rewards. Although some of his conclusions may be of interest to executives and managers seeking ways to motivate employees, most readers will find this academic study too detailed. Some of the interview comments are interesting, but much of the book describes survey results, a discussion that non-statisticians may be hard put to follow. Because of this complexity and because of the book's somewhat dense prose, we [...] recommend this 25-year-old reissued classic primarily to scholars or to those who are intensely curious about the nuts-and-bolts of motivation. But any human resources professional or leadership specialist should have at least a passing familiarity with its concepts and contents.
When good observations meet bad metaphors........2000-05-11
One of the major conceits in the history of psychology is that the act of paying attention can be a portal to amazing or magical things. Pay attention to a swinging watch and you become hypnotized, focus on your belly button or a mantra and you enter a blissful meditative state, and concentrate real hard while tapping your shoes together and you just may get to Kansas. The latest wonderful mind state that occurs thanks to paying attention is 'flow'. Upon interviewing a few thousand people as they went about their ordinary lives, Dr. C. discovered that many of them reported a state of pleasure or even ecstasy when they engaged in demanding tasks that challenged them to the limits of their capabilities. The fact that mountain climbers, artists, doctors, etc. reported some real good feelings while having to rapidly shift their attention to stay on a ledge, keep inspiration, or keep a patient alive seemed to indicate once again that attention, if focused just right, can be a portal to some mighty good things. In this his first book on the topic of flow, Dr. C. waxes poetic about how flow represents a heightened sense of self, undreamed level of consciousness and so on, without grounding any of it to actual neural processes. Dr. C.'s house of metaphorical cards however collapses if attention was not the antecedent for flow, but the stuff of flow itself. The critical question that Dr. C. studiously avoids is whether attention is in itself a pleasurable or hedonic thing. Modern research in neuropsychology answers the question in the affirmative, as it is well known that when attention rapidly shifts between a host of important precepts, the neuromodulator dopamine is released that keeps us rooted, alert, promotes efficiency in thinking, and feels good to boot. Dr. C. does not concern himself to explore any of these findings, preferring instead to view attention as a portal to all those good metaphysical feelings, and not a source of those good feelings themselves. But again, if Dr. C. actually was intent on finding out what flow actually is, instead of reveling in its poetry, his book would be shorter by two thirds, and lose its representation as a model for vacuous New Age thinking, which in toto represents the intellectual con of the 20th century.

Moms take note!!.......2007-05-14
If you're a mom of a toddler, preschooler, or elementary age child, get a subscription to the magazine Family Fun, and then get this book as well as "My Great Idea" put out by that magazine. Soooo many wonderful and creative ideas for those of us who are a bit challenged when faced with playing with a youngster!
A very well thought out book.......2005-04-27
This book is amazing. It's beautifully designed and it is extremely well organized. I can instantly find the kind of activity that I am looking for (backyard activity, craft to do at the kitchen table, etc.) It's also easy to zero in on age-appropriate ideas, too. I have purchased a lot of activity books over the years, but this is definitely one of the very best.
The BEST Family/Kids activity book ever!.......2005-01-30
This book is worth its weight in gold! There are activities, games, ideas, etc. suitable for any occasion. I have a son and a daughter, am a boy scout and a girl scout leader, entertain numerous neighborhood children and bring crafts into my children's classrooms often. A great deal of the activities I do comes from this book alone. I have a full time career also, so I don't always have a lot of time to plan and this book makes it possible. Even if I don't follow an idea exactly, I receive inspiration for other activities/crafts and always find a use for any type of container, paper roll, rocks, pinecones, etc. So if you want a book that not only has great craft ideas but also ideas for groups, games, things to keep your kids entertained while they're waiting for dinner; then this is your book! Have fun and enjoy!
I love this book!.......2004-01-11
I bought this book, as well as the FamilyFun Craft book. It is a great book with great ideas for a wide range of ages. There are so many good ideas, its hard to know which to do first! I also liked that it is spiral-bound, it makes it easier to look at the projects.
another great FamilyFun book..........2003-06-27
I think I have all of the FamilyFun books now and Boredom Busters is just as great as the others. By using common items found around the house kids can find lots of fun things to make and do. I highly recommend all of the FamilyFun books and magazine as well. Neither you or your kids will be disappointed.

I have used a number of the phrases unexpectedly on my friend,co-worker Spanish teacher..he laughed and asked where I had learned them....he was impressed and very surprised...as were many of the Hispanic students with which I work as a mentor. Muchisimas gracias!! Ahorita mi amigo me llama sabionda.
Full of new meanings and interesting to peruse.......2007-01-12
The various words are organized by topic and are included later in an index at the back. This is not the easiest format to reference because the first word and/or subject matter of various idioms is arguable. It is interesting to peruse the book by topic, you look up one word and end up reading the whole page. I do not actively use this book, but it is a good balance in the collection.
Great resource for colloquialisms!.......2002-07-30
This dictionary/ thesaurus was wonderfully designed to enlighten, clarify and facilitate one's understanding of Spanish slang that is used in all Spanish speaking countries. The book is well organized thematically and alphabetically with colloquial words & expressions that are used and heard in the everyday spoken language. The book offers a broad range of expressions with examples of its usage in a phrase and the country of origin. Therefore, if you are looking to clarify queries concerning slang words or expressions this dictionary/ thesaurus would prove helpful and also is a learning tool for those who wish to learn and use colloquialisms from any the Spanish speaking countries in their everyday speech. Here are some examples of slang expressions, the respective country and common usage covered in the book:
Under the theme "Going Crazy"
1) Botar la canica- to go crazy -(Mexico)
2) Caérsele un tornillo- to have a screw loose (Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador)
3) Perder la chaveta- to lose, one's head, to be off one's rocker (Mexico, Chile, Spain, Dominican Republic)
"Types of students"
1) el cuadernícolas- a serious student who studies a lot (used in most of Latin America)
2) La pollila de biblioteca -bookworm (used in most of Latin America and Spain)
3) El/ la enchufado/a -teacher's pet (Spain)
These are just a few examples of the types of expressions that the book has and as one can see they are definitely useful, heard, spoken and easy to learn. I strongly suggest purchasing this resource material if you wish to have a broader knowledge and understanding of colloquial expressions and everyday slang.

Finally Some Fidget Sense .......2007-05-19
This has been one of the easiest and most to the point book I have read on the subject of ADHD so far.
The authors have explained the fundamentals of ADD/ADHD in the most simplest terms and given fidget a whole new meaning!
A wonderful read.
A clear, empathetic guide.......2006-12-14
A well-organized book, combining current scientific thinking with helpful suggestions and anecdotes. Plenty of meat in the text, but the time-challenged will find chapter reviews and appendices useful.
pass it.......2006-11-24
I want to give an honest review, I bought alot of ad/hd books and I am finally reviewing them. I like to be constructive and have thought of reviewing this book honestly for a while, a bit lazy. So what does the book do well, it takes an interesting concept that controlled fidgeting will help you to focus. It also has a very interesting suggestions like raising a hand before falling asleep will help because your activing your brain enough to focus and fall asleep.
Okay, so what is wrong with it? first of all, this book is initally only 84 pages and with the extra pages and work book, if I can even call it that is 126 pages. I felt like there wasn't alot of effort being put into this book. The idea of fidgeting to focus is obsurd because we naturally do fidget to activate our brains, or we would be in the brainwave of theta, which is sleep walking or very tired. Also there is no guarantee that fidgeting will focus your brain as well as ritalin. Besides that, what else did I not find helpful? The language of every sentence really sounds like it came from a encyclopedia, which makes it dry and very difficult to read. Out of all the books, 84 pages was difficult. It's funny there is the word bordom in the title, it should be called from dianosis to medication, more constructive. Lastly there aren't many suggestions. I found 10 Simple Solutions to Adult ADD to be a much better book. To this day, I still read it for reference, it works so well on all levels, can't praise it enough.
I hope this review didn't sound too negative, I really wanted to find this book useful, I explained exactly why I didn't. I gave other books good reviews because they helped alot, definetly read alot of books on the subject. I think if there was a second edition of this book with more effort on the concept and suggestions, it would be better. It would be a diservice if I didn't tell you the truth and said it was great, still an interesting concept though.
You got the motion.......2005-09-01
This is a practicAL approach to helping us with ADD/ADHD. Dr Rotz uses many examples one can apply to keeping ones attention.
I still drink a glass of water before bedtime so that I can wake up on time. From his years of experience as a therapist, he cleverly gleaned practical ideas from those with ADD/ADHD.
Fidget to Focus held my attention and eloquently written but not boring
Very informative book.......2005-08-02
Once I started to read the book, I couldn't put it down! I kept underlying so much on every page ( one of the strategies I use to stay focused ) and found many insights.
The book reads easily and flows well with stories I can relate to, clear information and understanding of ADD, and best of all, many strategies for living with ADD including an extensive workbook section that has been very helpful. Also the review and the end of the chapters is great to go back to.
Highly educational and useful, I absolutely recommend this book!

Book Description
Although boredom appears to be a perennial feature of the human condition, it is linked to ways of experiencing time and thinking about human existence that are recognizably modern. By tracing the emergence and evolution of the modern discourse on boredom in French and German literary, philosophical, and sociological texts, Experience Without Qualities makes a contribution to the intellectual and cultural history of European modernity. In interpreting that discourse as the reflection of a specifically modern crisis of meaning, it contributes to the theorization of modernity and modern experience. And in bringing these historical and theoretical dimensions into conversation, it develops analytic strategies that are of broader application in interdisciplinary inquiry—for the methodological problems that arise in thinking about boredom as a phenomenon of both philosophical and more broadly cultural significance illuminate the constraints that confront any attempt to reflect historically on subjective experience in modernity.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful.......2007-01-27
This is a great book. These Priscilla books are really well written and thought through. This one has a great moral and everyone can appreciate. Great graphics. Well done, my family loves it!
A wonderful book!.......2006-03-11
On Priscilla's planet, which is not so far away, the sky is a purple, green-brownish gray hue today. The sky had not been blue for days. Then the raindrops began to fall and rain became the word of the day.
Priscilla is not a fish or a duck so rain is bad luck. She tried to occupy herself indoors but became bored until she decides to go outside and perform a rain-stopping dance. Near the woods she encounters the pixie Posy from The Land of Primrose.
Posy is happy that Priscilla enjoys the rain. But no, Priscilla states that "this rain is the pits." Posy educates Priscilla about the wonders of rain and suddenly Posy happily begins to see things in a new way.
This is a lyrical story with rhyming verse that will delight children. The whimsical illustrations will bring little bursts of laughter as they enjoy rainy days in a new way.
Armchair Interviews says: When rainy days plague your children, it's time to read to them. I suggest reading Priscilla and the Splish-Splash Surprise.
Funny, heartwarming book with a twist.......2006-02-15
This colorful book is a delight from cover to cover. It depicts a little girl over the course of a rainy, boring week. Try as she might, she can't seem to see the bright side of life until she meets a surprise visitor at the forest's edge near her house.
My favorite part of the book are the scenes inside the forest and the joy that the characters she meets there bring to the page. You can't help smiling and laughing outloud at the witty bugs and animals that populate the magical world among the trees.
If you need a lift, you need this book. It will make your eyes dance...and your heart sing.
