Customer Reviews:
RIP OFF.......2003-10-18
I would have given this book zero stars but 1 was the lowest allowed. This is a total cheap rip off chop job reprint. I could take the corn ball dread lock guys pasted on the cover with green crowns on their heads but they don't tell you that they have completely left out Budge's introducti0n. I had to go find it on line and download it (the whole book is online by the way, if you care to read/ print it).
The typface is in at least two different fonts.
How they got an actual photograph of Makeda, the legendary Queen of Sheba is beyond me.
When you look through the index, they have left in all the references to the missing introduction so there are all these entries in roman numerals that do not exist.
Give me a break.
The Legend of the Ark and the Solomonic Dynasty.......2002-02-03
This is an excellent accessible reprint of the famous Oxford Univ Press translation by Sir E. A. Wallis Budge, perhaps the foremost Egyptologist and archaeolinguist of the late 19th Century. It retells the Ethiopian legend of the founding of the "Solomonic" dynasty, which only ended with the demise of Emperor Haille Selassie I, and the insistent "proof" provided by the presence of a hidden artifact in the Sanctuary Chapel at Mariam Tseyon in Axum, said to be the original Ark of the Covenant. This edition suffers somewhat in omitting Budge's 50-odd page introductory essay, which was rich in historical background and knowledgeable commentary. The interesting part for many, the famed romance between King Solomon and Queen Makeda, is somewhat glossed as the scribe/deacon was in no little hurry to provde a patent of the divine right to rule for the then-current monarch. Scholars might find useful query in whether there is evidence of an older (pre-Christian tale) with interpolations later made to "Christianize" it as the religion of the aristocracy in Ethiopia changed, which might indicate the pedigree of the tale. This is the legend prompting many current sects' preaching of Afrocentric ownership of
<"true"> Judaism and Christianity -and Rastafarianism (Haille Selassie's given name was Ras Tafari). Persons looking for a good romance will find here the foundations for Ms. Janice Dennie's series of historical romances such as "Moon Goddess; the Queen of Sheba" and the forthcoming "Menyelik the Conquering Lion" -also available through Amazon!
Kebra Ngast and the Aksum empire.......2001-10-25
The story goes back to a time in history when Ethiopia was a great trading civilzation. The kingdom of Ethiopia of course being tied betweeen the Sabeans and Abyssinians. The story of Saba was greatly absorbed into the lore of the ethiopian people. The Abyssinians adapted christainty under the king Ezra and wrote many sacred book in the native language of Ge'ez. The story encompaes a Queen by the name of Makeda that would give birth to a mighty son named Ras Memelik. Memelik would then lead nations under the Solmanic dynasty that would be ruled in Ethiopia, and giving way to Aksum. I recommend anyone that want to learn about the mystical and magical place known as Ethiopia. The book will take you into the root of Ethiopic soul. I wouldn't Recommend Budge, but the other two versions of this are filled with biased or rastafarinism. If you can get another book by Budge called The Ethiopian book of the dead aka the Bandlement of rightenous. Overall Budge's translation is not all that bad,but sometimes he is not liked because he is one of the White Egyptaintologist who sugested that Egypt had an African origin.

His Only Son.......2000-08-03
"His Only Son" is a book that combines strong emotion and a twisty mystery into a read that's not to be missed. The story of a man and woman united when his son turns out to be her kidnapped child, it not only is moving, but a real pageturner when it comes to the intrigue element. There is a lot that needs to happen to make the romance believable in a situation like this, and Roberts pulls it off with ease. The dialogue is great, with banter that's thankfully based on real emotion instead of sniping and innuendo. Parts of the story are so honest and raw they're almost painful to read, but in the end, the reading experience is much more rewarding because we've come through it all with the characters. The rest of the Landry brothers are introduced in subtle ways that indicate Ms. Roberts has some interesting tales in store for us. A red hot start for a series that finds this favorite author in top form.
(This is a repost of my review from October. I recently reread it and decided it certainly deserved that fifth star. I haven't always enjoyed her books, but this is one of her best. A must-read.)
Brilliant and Suspenseful!.......2000-07-24
This is such a great read. The mystery elements are great and the romance is even better. This is the perfect blend of romance and suspense. It is what every Intrigue should be. i've already read this 3 times and I look forward to rereading it in the future. This woman can tell a story. I can't wait to read the other Landry Brothers.
Kelsey Roberts is The Best!.......2000-04-05
Whew! I just finished this book for the second time and I loved it as much as the first! Nobody tells a story like Kelsey Roberts. A wonderful mystery and love story that made me cry. Her internet sight says the third Landry book won't be out until December. Oh no! Guess that means I'll be rereading this one a bunch more times until then. Thanks for the great book.
The Landry Brothers.......2000-03-21
I love books that continue a group of characters. Sometimes one book just wets your appetite and you wish the author had had time to get into everyone......This is the first of six brothers...and kept me "INTRIGUED"....looking forward to working thru the 6 brothers one at a time....only complaint...spread too far apart on the market....As an avid 6-10 books a week from paperback to hardcover...from romance to science fiction.....I hate waiting for long periods of time for followup books...
A grest start to a great new series.......1999-11-16
This tale of parental devotion has lots of twists and turns. Sam Landry is to die for and if he's any example of the 7 Landry Brothers in this series, I can't wait for the other 6.
As always, Ms. Roberts' humor shines through and her dialogue is sheer perfection. That's what makes her characters and her stories so memorable.
I highly sugggest you order this and get in from the very beginning!

Book Description
The loss of a child is every parent's worst fear. Gordon Livingston survived that tragedy not once but twice, in successive years. Only Spring, crafted from his journal, traces his son Lucas's courageous battle with leukemia, his extraordinary gift of love, and Livingston's own cycle of faith lost and hope regained. This edition includes a new epilogue by the author.
Customer Reviews:
Compelling.......2007-02-11
Gordon Livingston writes with clarity and honesty about the illness and death of his beloved youngest son, and the aftermath he and his family endured. The book faithfully captures the roller coaster of emotions that accompany the trajectory of illness, as well as the benumbed unreality of such a shocking loss when death occurs. A beautifully brave account of moving into and through a fog of despair, doubt, and guilt, eventually giving way to a ray of hope and light.
gut-wrenching.......2004-12-07
Sad book, but helped me see what it is that is important in life.

A Must Read.......2005-04-09
Wow, never in my life have I encountered such an amazingly written piece of art. Told from three different points of view, there is no way the reader can take sides between the emotional struggle of the main characters. The mother of a kidnapped child, the love of a child, and the love of the kidnapping father of the son. It is an emotional struggle to get through this book, and at the same time, you can not put it down while reading it! Have a box of Kleenex by your side for this one!
Only Son.......2001-07-19
This was one of the best books I have read. Kevin's book "The first to die" was also an excellent read. I had a difficult time putting the books down and could not wait to read on to see what the next page would bring.
Could not put this book down!.......2001-02-11
It is extremely rare that I start and finish a book on the same day. I typically like to enjoy a book over a week or so. But I could not put this book down!
I always respect an author that is capable of making you feel something you ordinarily would not. But not only does the author make you feel compassion for a criminal, but resenting those who try to bring him to "justice."
I'm still thinking about this book, its characters, and all the possible reasons this book has me spellbound. But you're better off reading it yourself anyway. I have a feeling it will mean many different things to many different people.
Only Son.......2000-02-21
The book Only Son is a modern work of art expressing human needs and wants along with the confussion of real life. Charectors in this book are so realistic you feel as if they are people you know who have emotion no different than that of a friend. There is no good or bad just a gray area and Kevin O'Brian has captured the gray area that we all seem to fall into with a remarcable story.
It is a Must-Read.......1999-10-07
You have to read this book. It is a wonderful, compelling and emotion-stirring read! I raced through it and couldn't wait to see how all the strands of this engaging story came together. From the outset you wonder how all of this came about and how it could end like this!
You have a whole range of emotions to work through here - it is by turns melancholy, thrilling and sad... Just read it and see. The story flows smoothly and it is easy to read. Also it has a number of well developed characters and as you read, you begin to understand what motivates and touches them!
Go buy it right now!

Book Description
It was 11:00 pm when the news just came on TV - tomorrow is the Fourth of July and I was thinking about a cookout in the back yard. My son Todd was at a picnic, and should be home soon. My wife was in bed sleeping.
I heard the sirens of emergency vehicles in the distance, and then as the vehicles got closer to my home, the sirens got louder and louder, I looked out the window and saw emergency vehicles - police, ambulances, and a fire truck rush past my home.
I felt a strong knot in my stomach. Little did I know that they were rushing to the scene of an accident that took my only child's life. In a split second our lives would change forever.
Within a five-year period, I lost my son, my job, my mother, my father, my house, and my wife.
A child represents your future, your spouse connects with your past. When you lose them both, you have no future, no connection to the past, only the present, and the present is dark and filled with dismay and uncertainty.
It took ten years to write this book. I wrote the first part after three years, because I wanted to remember my son, but all I could write was about his death. Three years later, I wrote the second part, because I felt well enough, I thought, to be able to finish the book. Another three years would pass before I could write part three, and another year to complete the book.
My life has taken pretty much the same course, in three parts. The normal years before Todd dies, the grieving years of uncertainty and healing, and part three, a new life has emerged.
This book describes what I went through when I lost my only child. It describes a period of time I call the "Five Years of Hell", and how I coped with it. I also explain my recovery period.
Fortunately not everyone takes it as hard as I did, or may not show it, and not every one goes through every thing I did. But I believe there are a lot of things that happened to me, that you will be able to recognize and understand. I hope the book finds its way into the hands of people who want to understand what it's like to lose a child, or help someone who has lost a son or daughter to cope with the loss.
The Guardian Angels I speak of are people and spirits that helped me back to an existence that I never thought I could achieve again. It is nice to be back. And I often wonder if Todd is up there watching me, and saying "Atta boy, Dad!"

Customer Reviews:
Anderson always delivers.......2007-06-16
Once again, a wonderful read from Catherine Anderson. Her books never fail to capture me. She has a wonderful way of exploring characters and emotions, thoroughly engaging the reader. I didn't find this book as thoroughly enthralling and emotional as some of her other books, like Phantom Waltz and Summer Breeze, but I still loved it.
Lots of wonderful dynamics in this book. I loved Ben's character. As an animal lover myself, I loved his compassion for the animals he cared for. I just wanted to give him a big hug sometimes. The romance between him and Chloe is nicely done. There's a slow build-up that makes it more realistic than if they just jumped into bed with each other. I liked that they got to know each other first. They complemented each other well.
There was a minor suspense plot aspect that was a nice addition to the story. It gave the book some kick and some meat. And the reason behind the antagonist's action fit well with the story. But the story was mostly about the characters, their situations, and the romance, as with all Anderson's books. Just a good all around romance.
Enchanting..........2007-01-04
"Only by your touch" is one of Catherine's best. This book has a bit of fantasy in it, a touch of magic. The relationship between Chloe and Ben, how it develops and grows, is charming, and enchanting. Not to forget Cloe's cute little boy, and Ben's lovable pets.
The love between Chloe and Ben is portrayed splendidly. A truly poignant and breathtaking read. Highly recommended!
Did not like as well as other reviewers.......2006-06-27
I just want to start out by saying that this was a good book, but I would not read it again. I didn't think that Ben Longtree and Chloe had any romance at all. It was more of an animal lover book. Ben Longtree could secretly heal living things, and it's great that he could because someone was shooting all the animals in the woods. They automatically knew to go right to him after they were wounded. He was also a vet and healed them back to health. You get to learn a lot about his native american heritage and horrible past with his father. Chloe had an ex-husband that makes you think he is still in the picture, but then you never hear a word about him throughout the end of the book. This book just left me with more questions than answers.
Charmingly poignant.......2006-03-15
Chloe Evans leaves an abusive marriage and, with her son, sets out to build a new life. She doesn't anticipate meeting a man like Ben. The town spends plenty of time speculating on what Ben's doing up on his mountain spread. Together Ben and Chloe overcome the town's suspicions and their own personal demons to find something special...maybe a family?
As always, Catherine Anderson pens a charmingly poignant story of shattered dreams and rediscovered hope.
My First Anderson book!.......2005-12-02
I picked this book up at a library fund-raiser sale ~~ and while taking care of two sick kids ~~ I picked this book expecting it to be a light fluffy read. Well, it is definitely not a fluffy read ~~ it is a light read but it is also intense. I have to admit that I loved every minute of this book! I know that it's fiction and I know that it's too good to be true, but when I read, I read to escape from reality and this book is definitely one of the better ones I've read in quite some time.
Chloe moves to a small town with her son, Jeremy, to start over. Settled in a good job as a dispatcher for the local sheriff, she thinks that she would definitely find peace again. However, once she ran into Ben Longtree, the local outcast, her life was not going to be as tranquil as she had hoped. Pitted against a local deputy who was stalking her, and fighting her feelings for Ben, life just got to be interesting for Chloe.
I have to say that Ben Longtree is probably my favorite hero lately ~~ able to tame wild animals, live in a secluded forest ~~ and big and gentle ~~ what is there NOT to love? And Chloe is a strong and determined woman ~~ fighting for what she believes in. What is there not to like?
If you're looking for the perfect escape, this book would be it! It's entertaining and my favorite, it's very well-written ~~ I couldn't stop turning the pages! This is perfect reading for anytime of the year ~~ snuggling on the couch at night or sunbathing at the local pool. And since this is my first introduction to this author, I will definitely keep an eye out for her other books!

Book Description
Your worst fear has been realized: your only son has died suddenly. Through a painful inversion of life's circle, you have outlived your child. How can you go on? What do you do? Who knows the way you should take?
One Clear Call describes David Murray's close bond with his son, and concludes with a pilgrimage into the hidden chambers of parental bereavement. While on that journey, the author is arrested by "one clear call" and confronted with a heavenly reality that highlights a road less traveled. This book offers a revealing snapshot of God's calling and election. If you have lost a child or a close loved one, you will be inspired by this account of how one father found the consolations of God to be real and substantial. Wherever you may be in your bereavement journey, you will certainly find a way station of hope and courage somewhere in these pages.
