As with "Many Lives, Many Masters", you'll need to have a open mind to appreciate this brilliant work of Brian Weiss. Here, he relates the discovery that two of his patients, Elizabeth and Pedro, who had not previously known each other, were actually long-lost soulmates. These two had been husband and wife, father and daughter, brother and sister and were, in each of those lifetimes that were uncovered, bonded strongly to each other. The two were finally reunited, with a little help from the doctor.
I now comprehend the meaning of the word, "soulmates" and "love" at a different level, from a different perspective altogether. These revelations opened my mind to a new definition of love- something that is unconditional, true, and pure. When I look into the eyes of my beloved son now, I no longer question why I love him so. I can only love him even more. And it also gives me reassurance and hope for a better, more emotionally fufilling life ahead, whether it is in my current lifetime or the next.
In many ways, I find this book more powerful than "Many Lives". It touches my life in many aspects, such as the topic of miscarriages, that was briefly mentioned. The explanations for various phenomena in life given in terms of souls and rebirthing leave an everlasting sense of calm within me. This book will be of great help for individuals who are struggling with relationships. For people who think they don't need it, think again, because it helped me.
Shows some weakness in the good doctors understanding.......2007-08-08
In "Only Love is Real," best selling author and psychotherapist Dr. Brian Weiss traces the karmic threads connecting two souls drawn together by "love" over many lifetimes. Ordinarily, I have great respect for Dr Weiss and his work, but in this case I'm afraid he demonstrates a lack of discernment by concluding that a couple whose relationship is characterized by great "passion," would necessarily constitute "soul mates," a little understood and widely abused term.
To be accurate, the term "soul-mate" refers to two separate entities who are friends unburdened by any karmic debt. What is commonly assumed by the term soul-mates is more properly described as "dharmic-partners," meaning souls united in their spiritual purpose, whether physically together or not. We may have several soul-mates, but only one dharmic-partner, a relationship based on service-to-others.
This leaves "karmic-partners," making up the bulk of our relationships, at least until we clear our karma and are ready to connect with our dharmic-partner. Karmic-partner relationships are characterized by "passion," the strong desires that create our karma, precisely the thing that makes Dr Weiss think his couple are soul-mates.
In my own life I've had more than my share of intensely passionate karmic relationships, so many that I gave my autobiography "The Vortex" the subtitle of "A True Story of Passion and Karma." My realizations of how past life trauma accounted for the events of my present life didn't originate from lying on Dr Weiss' couch in trance. They came to me through a continuous chain of spontaneous psychic encounters over 25 years, involving events of a lifetime 800 years ago when I was a nephew of Genghis Khan. From my third wife who would pay me back for abandoning her in favor of a slave girl, to the fourth wife who couldn't trust me because of my putting her to death as my younger brother, and the lover who had been my former slave and had vowed to escape from me "no matter how long it took," both passion and love were central features of each of these intensely karmic relationships.
My journey of discovery began in the spring of 1975. My third wife was sitting in front of me reciting an 800 year old Greek Orthodox prayer that was reputed to dispel evil and quiet the mind when she was suddenly plunged into a spontaneous psychic vision. Before her she saw a shaft of electric blue light coming down through the top of my head and engulfing my entire body, and a very old monk dressed in red robes standing off to my right.
As soon as she described the monk I was immediately struck by his similarity to what a previous psychic had referred to years earlier as my "very powerful spirit guide." But before I could speak of this she reported that his features were morphing, first into a Prussian General, then into a Mongolian Warlord from the time of Genghis Khan. Next she reported seeing an inextricably terrifying amorphous blob of grayish-white energy off to my left.
A few months later we decided to take a seminar in psychic healing given by legendary psychic healer Ben Bibb, and during an aura reading exercise, in which I was the subject, the entire class reported seeing everything she had seen months earlier, and in exactly the same order and detail. According to Bibb the man in red robes was indeed my spirit guide, the Prussian and Mongolian were personas from two of my past lives, and the blob of energy was a "familiar spirit," an artificial being created during a previous life of high psychic development. As to the shaft of blue light he hadn't a clue.
This is the point at which I probably should have sought the help of someone like Dr. Weiss. Unfortunately, I decided to tough it out on my own and for the next 25 years was continuously plagued by spontaneous encounters with "psychics" who seemed bent on answering all the questions I was too reluctant to ask about the events of these two previous lives.
As the evidence continued to mount I eventually began to realize how the tragic events of these prior lifetimes had in fact shaped both the events and the relationships of my current life. Almost everyone in my current life it seemed, friends, lovers, wives, business partners, had played some pivotal role in these former incarnations and had now returned to help me resolve the karmic issues, whether I consciously wanted to or not.
Aside from discovering my own tragic role in Genghis Khan's conquests as his nephew Yegu, and my role in Germany's involvement in World War I as its Chief of the General Staff, there was a lot of other new knowledge to be acquired along the way as well. Things like how to communicate directly with my Guide, how to control my "familiar," what my spiritual dharma (ie purpose) was and how that related to my having been initiated, while still in my teens, into the spiritual brotherhood responsible for the shaft of blue light.
Amazingly, after documenting all these events in my autobiography I was even able to substantiate many of the events described through historical research. My only regret is that for too long my Guide had to drag me "kicking and screaming" just to get me to listen to what he was trying to tell me. In retrospect, if I had it all to do over again, I would call Dr. Weiss. I'm sure the whole process could have been handled a lot faster and less painfully with his help.
But then I try to look on the bright side. My story may serve as a good example of how NOT to go about handling one's karmic issues when they jump into one's face. At least we can hope.

I purchased this book almost a year ago, and have read through it at least twice. I'm still looking to find my soulmate, but this book has really helped me be patient in that process.
I would recommend this book to anybody, whether they're actively dating, not looking, or even in a relationship. Because I think this book carries a great message that most do not: you're great just the way you are! I've been in a series of horrible relationships and recently started looking at my pattern. I realized that my perception of myself was getting in the way of being happy in relationships, and this book helps to heal those perceptions.
Even though I'm still looking for him, I'm still extremely comforted by the message in this book. For me, the real treat is not that I will someday have found my soulmate, but that I've already found peace with myself. The soulmate will just be icing on the cake. ;)
Covers Important Ground.......2007-07-22
"Love Will Find You" is an easy read, but full of insight. It covers a few of the important things that people need to do to be ready and open for love. Primary among them is letting go of the past and healing your wounds. People get frustrated with the dating scene because they are running so hard so that they don't have to look at their own issues. The beauty of this work is that it will help you start reflecting on your own love for yourself to be ready and open for the love you want to attract.
The other important aspect of this book is that Alice encourages you to be open to the dating process and allow it to be just that -- a process that allows you to experience other people and learn more about yourself as you do it.
If you are just beginning to date or are ready to figure out why dating isn't working for you, "Love Will Find You" is a good place to start.

"Hallelujah!" is the most accurate word I have to describe my response to every page of this enlightened text. With all the depressingly shallow, often condescending, manipulation manuals dealing with this topic, Kathryn's words are deliciously refreshing. She gives explicit, step-by-step instructions for attracting your ideal mate. While the process can be painfully challenging, I felt comforted and encouraged by the support of this manual. It's as if Kathryn is taking us each by the hand and guiding us, under her wing of experience, understanding, and love. This masterpiece contains pricelss wisdom and sage advice, and its hopeful tone has soothed my soul on many a lonely night.

I resonates very much with Kathryn's style, this book really given me hopes on finding love. Chapter 4 is for me, being myself, loving myself, being comfortable in my own skin.
I have been religiously practicing the 9 magnets of "Love will find you", I invested my lunch time to do the exercise, and going over the steps everyday for the last 30 days. My faith have increased tremendously, my outlook have been more upbeat about getting love. Synchronicities showing up in my life. I know that it won't be long love will find me. This is a great book! At least, I think it is. lol. I only got to the third chapter and then I met the girl of my dreams -- it happened that fast! So I never finished the book. ;)
The book talks about 9 "love magnets" -- nine different things you can do to prepare for and attract your soulmate and ideal relationship. I only got to the 3rd magnet before my Special Someone showed up -- and I'm very happy! :)
If you're ready for love, I will highly recommend this book. It dispels a lot of myths, provides great encouragement and hope -- and in my experience, works lightning fast! :)
And here's the best part: I didn't have to "do" anything out of character to attract this dream girl. I was just being myself, being and doing only what was natural to who I honestly am ... and she found me! :)
It really can be effortless, once you make yourself ready on the INSIDE. And this book really helps heal and open up your heart to real, deep love.

I think this book is awful. Hard read and way too much about finding the 'spirit'. If I needed that kind of read-can go to synagoue to find the same damn stuff.
kathy Freston needs to get a life and do something other than write books.
She is by no mean a "relationship" expert.
I also received "The Manual." Great book and gives you insight of how a man really thinks.

Purchased this book for my daughter after seeing the author on Oprah. Kathy Freston does a good job identifying what you first need to look at in yourself prior to looking for a mate. Fast and easy read with good examples of love relationships.
The book The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman is an excellent choice for this genre and if you can only purchase one book I'd recommend the Chapman book over The One; Discovering the Secrets of Soul Mate Love.

I am enjoying reading the book. The author has some very interesting perspectives. I'm only half way finished, so I've still got lots more to read! Great book! I bought 3, one for myself, and one each for two of my single friends!
Makes Women Feel Better But Doesn't Really Help.......2007-07-23
There are two types of books out there that offer relationship advice. The first type really doesn't do anything except make us women feel better about ourselves and give us tips and exercises that, if we are honest, really just make us feel better. This is one of those books. I admit, I feel like the advice will help when I read it, I feel good about the author, she makes me feel good about myself, but when I put it away and really think about it, there's not much actual practical information in this book. Books for women have been doing this for years, just rehashing the same advice over and over every so many years. We keep buying them, big shows like Oprah keep pushing them, and nothing really changes. A few years later, a new book with the exact same advice comes along and is pushed on us. Funny thing, if the last book worked so well, how come we're still unhappy about our dating lives?
The second type of book is much newer. These books present practical tips in the practical world and don't worry about making women feel good; they focus on making us focus on the honest, real world. Two of the books that do this really well and impressed me were The Manual: A True Bad Boy Explains How Men Think, Date, and Mate--and What Women Can Do to Come Out on Top and God Is a Woman: Dating Disasters. Both books are written by men and offer much insight into the workings of a man's mind, honestly and unapologetically. I urge all women to read them.
"The One" is good for helping you know where you want to draw boundaries and knowing yourself, but not much in practical advice in the real world of dating.

There isn't really much here except two things: look for clues that fate is leading you to a particular person. Then, don't have tunnel vision as to whom your ideal person should be. That said, once people get to a certain age and have been burned by a relationship or two, they can convince themselves to be with the wrong person. Inner guidance is great IF you are emotionally healthy and tuned into what are positive choices. Gut instinct helps but many times emotions can ruin the best made plans.

I cannot put into words my feelings reading this book... except for I LOVE IT!!! It just goes to show that each person has an innate knowledge of their true destiny! Just follow the flow of the heart and it will lead you to 'the one. It's foolproof. You can't go wrong.
"Soulmates" delivers!.......2004-11-23
I was pleasantly surprised to find that "Soulmates" is not New Age pablum, but a delightful mixture of solid psychology and ... and what? Warm mysticism? Course in Miracles wisdom? Whatever the second part, the first part, solid psychology, is undeniable, and the author's wit, honesty, modesty and self-disclosure make the book a great read. Believe it or not, it may even help you find (or create) a soulmate.

Wonderful, wonderful book!!!! It provided me the insights and tools that I needed to recognize my future soulmate. I am now involved in a fabulous relationship that probably would never have evolved without the help and guidance that I gained from this book. A novel that you read more than once........2007-03-01
I was blown away from the various turns and directions this book takes you on. Although the meat of the book pertains to a couple contemplating on taking their relationship to the next level,it provided a spritual context as well. I was impressed with minister in this book. One of favorite parts of the book is when the minister tells the congregation to pick a incarcerated pen-pal to write to. This was my first book I read by Marry Morrison. I will follow up with her next book titled, She anit'the one this spring.
NO BIG DEAL.......2007-01-17
This was my first Mary Morrison novel. This book was kind of ordinary. It was simply just "okay" to me. In my opinion, Wellington was kind of lame. Morrison didn't do a very good job of selling his character to me in the beginning. While she over-emphasized the point of him being financially stable, he lacked personality and maturity. He didn't come across as being "Mr. Wonderful", which is the point I think she was trying to make at first. He even came across as brainless and idiotic. As far as Diamond, initially Mary Morrison portrays Diamond as a strong woman. By the end of the book, she seems weak, and even pathetic at times. Anyway, towards the end, the book was all over the place. Everyone was upset with everyone, whether they had reason to be or not. The ending was a complete blur.
Unrealistic yet a true page turner.......2007-01-08
I recently purchased the book and finished it in an hour.It was captivating yet very slow in the beginning.I kept reading and the characters really developed more as the book progressed.However, some of the scenarios that occur in the novel were quite unrealistic and lead to some disappointment at the end.Overall, the book is well worth checking out and I look forward to reading more of Mary Morrison's books.

about soulmates and twin flames.......2004-02-17
I think this book is accurate in that it differentiates between 'twin flames' and 'soulmates'. Many books confuse a 'soulmate' with 'twin flame', but they are two different concepts. We all have many soulmates but only one twin flame, and yes, you may not meet your twin flame in this particular lifetime on earth. I myself thought the whole idea of twin flames was dubious until I met mine and only THEN became interested in the topic and really understood it due to having had the visceral experience. I think the books about twin flames really only serve you when you've already met yours, or at least if you really feel connected to the topic. Usually I have found that if it's not on your path to meet your twin flame in this particular incarnation, you're more drawn to the idea of soulmates rather than twin flames. The thing that we really desire is the next step on our path, whether it's a soulmate or a twin flame. This book is really good for both those who want to know more about soulmates and/or about twin flames. Also, speaking from my experience, I don't think you have to be enlightened or superhuman to have the experience of meeting your twin flame. I myself am spiritually conscious and my channel to spirit is open but I am hardly the epitome of enlightenment and I've met mine. It just depends on what's on your path and for your higher good at this time.

This book was exactly what I was looking for. Anyone who reads this book was led to it by a higher power. This book answered so many questions and even raised a few more. I finally found a book to give me knowledge and enlighten me on this deep and intriguing subject. If you are at this level of asking you will appreciate this book. It is more of a question and answer and informational guide. It validates much of what I was confused about.

This book is one that "ALL" African American couples should own. My professor used it as the main text in his class and it not only helps you understand yourself but your mate as well. It also gives you insight on why we behave in the manner in which we do, and provides exercises to help you sustain your relationships. The authors are African American Husband and Wife Psychologist who also practice what they've written.

I say that because in reading and understanding the husband/wife authors, you will become humble and start looking for opportunities to become more of a soulmate to your lover or friend. I agree that a person can indeed become jaded or exasperated with the "games" that men and women play on each other! Sometimes a person wonders how did their parents or grandparents ever get together! This book was one of the FIRST of the truly HELPFUL books in the Iyanla Vanzant, Maya Angelou, Dr. Ron Elmore tradition! "Manifesting Love: Call Forth Your Soulmate" helped me to manifest MY soulmate by teaching me to ask for EVERYTHING I want in the man of my dreams. The more specific I was, the more clearly I could see things becoming real. Kathryn Alice taught me that no detail is too small. Not only does my man have a compassionate heart, a great sense of humor, and is deeply spiritual, (the things I've always prayed for), he is also a fellow artist, has great hands, nice teeth, good credit, a solid work ethic, AND he's tall, athletic, handsome, sexy and PASSIONate about everything he does! THOSE were the details I was leaving out thinking I was being too shallow. Until I read Kathryn's words of loving encouragement and utilized her advice, I kept winding up with "Mr. Almost Right". Now I have truly manifested the love that I want down to the last detail. My man and I are very happilly together and we have a beautiful baby girl. This is a great book and it really works. Just remember, NO detail is too small!

I started listening to the Manifesting Love CD on October 29th
of this year. While I haven't yet manifested my soulmate, I've noticed a remarkable change in my outlook and my expectations in finding "the one". Kathryn's words and insights about love and
"knowing" there is a "lid for every pot" has convinced me that IT
WILL HAPPEN FOR ME ANYDAY NOW!!!!! Her CD has helped to dispel many of the myths and doubts that have plagued many of my everyday thoughts as to why love previously eluded me. NO MORE!!

I took Kathryn's workshop awhile ago and as I meet people who are more closely whom I'm looking for, I am constantly reinspired by her message that the RIGHT person is out there. It's all very encouraging and inspiring to move forth secure in that knowledge. In fact, I might have JUST met her!

Overall a great book but...........2005-11-14
The quizzes in this book are very good, they ask just the right questions. However, the scoring is flawed in my opinion. And I think one reason why is that the authors leave no room for people who are moderate in a trait--who score neither high or low and border on the cusp.
For example on the Materialism gauging quiz, I answered that I strongly like expensive cars, jewelry, restaurants and am not annoyed by people who wear pricey clothing and aspire to be rich. But because I am moderate/neutral on living simply I scored as someone who enjoys a spartan lifestyle. This is sooo not true! This happened on a couple of other trait quizzes too!
These quizzes don't take into account the complexity of the human personality, so you really have to measure the quiz yourself and not depend on the book's interpretation.
Comprehensive and Enlightening...Science meets Spirituality.......2003-05-01
Drs Weiner and Hoffman devoted 7 years to compile the research necessary to complete this book...they have integrated their information from a number of fields, including biology, developmental psychology, and personality theory. A more subtle undercurrent of the book has to do with spirituality, and gaining further insight into the Self. I believe this book will be extremely helpful to other professionals in the field of psychology, as well as those looking to meet their spiritual and practical counterpart...if you are looking for love and haven't found it, this book will help in illuminating why and will assist in self-enlightment, the first step of finding true, lasting intimacy and love. Highly recommended!

Hoffman and Weiner have provided a very practical and significant toool in utilizing traits to determine compatibility when considering a soulmate. Often the failure to appreciate one's own personality dimensions and those of others can lead to poor choices in relationships. The authors provide a very clear method of self-assessing the presence and intensity of twelve distinct traits and correlating them with those of a potential mate. This book is a gem, well written, and a must read for both the professional and the general public.
