5 out of 5 stars The Best and Only Nursing Book You Need.......2007-10-01

Super informative, easy to understand, great resource section. I have 1 other book--the AAP book--and it is not 1/2 as good. Great layout, natural order of progression. And best of all, no hidden agenda, or platform to proselytize from. I read it over and over again, nearly wore it out, used every inch of every page of it. You cannot go wrong buying this book. It's like having a lactation consultant 24x7. Buy it! :-)

5 out of 5 stars Great breastfeeding book-one of the best!!.......2007-09-04

Are you a new mom? Do you desire to breastfeed your baby but find yourself lost? Are you a seasoned mom who has breastfed before? This book has something to offer for every type of parent! I found it invaluable while I nursed my son. Especially for those parents who do not have a readily accessible lactation consultant or La Leche League group in your area. Best book to add to your parenting library!

5 out of 5 stars Great Book For First Time Moms!.......2007-08-15

I purchased this book just a few days prior to having my baby, and was so happy that I had my copy with me at the hospital. It has been a great reference from day 1. I took a breastfeeding class at our hospital, but they did not address the challenges of breastfeeding at all. I was not prepared, and thank goodness I had this book handy to help me through engorgement, latching, pumping and storing. I highly recommend it to any mother who is even thinking about breastfeeding.

5 out of 5 stars Invaluable living overseas.......2007-08-06

I don't write reviews often, but I had to for this book because of the help and comfort it has given me.

My husband and I are living overseas in Germany. We speak the language but not to such a specific extent which makes problem dr. visits more challenging for us. This book has been my saving grace. It helped us with many things from getting off to a good start with the latch, how to keep baby awake to feed, medicines ok to take during nursing, breast infections (I've had 3), sore nipples (now that baby is teething), all the way to starting solids. I wouldn't feel so comfortable in my nursing practices living over here without it.

There is a great deal more to breastfeeding than I ever thought and this book addresses it all. I brought it with us to the hospital and I'm still referring to it today - baby girl is 6 months already. I can't say enough about this book.

5 out of 5 stars Great Reference.......2007-07-26

This book contains comprehensive, solid information to help you become a successful nursing mother. I recommend buying this while you are pregnant to read up on what to expect and plan for those early weeks and beyond. I still use it for reference if I have a question.
We are still nursing at 11months and plan to continue for a little while longer.
So That's What They're For is also a great nursing book if you are looking for something that is a little more casual in tone.
Above all, I think a determination to succeed and confidence that you are giving your baby the best start in life are what helps the most.

Say no to silicone: The greatest natural breasts of our times

Some call it the American obsession, but men everywhere recognize the hypnotic allure of a large and shapely breast. In The Big Book of Breasts, Dian Hanson explores the origins of mammary madness through three decades of natural big-breasted nudes. Starting with the World War II Bosom-Mania that spawned Russ Meyer, Howard Hughes's The Outlaw and Frederick's of Hollywood, Dian guides you over, around, and in between the dangerous curves of infamous models including Michelle Angelo, Candy Barr, Virginia Bell, Joan Brinkman, Lorraine Burnett, Lisa De Leeuw, Uschi Digard, Candye Kane, Jennie Lee, Sylvia McFarland, Margaret Middleton, Paula Page, June Palmer, Roberta Pedon, Rosina Revelle, Candy Samples, Tempest Storm, Linda West, June Wilkinson, Julie Wills, and dozens more, including Guinness World Record holder Norma Stitz, possessor of the World's Largest Natural Breasts.

3 out of 5 stars Changing fasion.......2007-10-08

This book details how womens figures have changed over the years, well at least those who pose for pictures. Interesting book and a great talking point if left on the coffee table !

5 out of 5 stars Big Book of Breasts.......2007-09-07

Quite an interesting book from both a social and historical perspective. The text deals mainly with how and why many of these women became models and the roles they played in creating an image. Many of these models come from the glossy mens magazines of the 1970's and 80's, as well as date back to the 50's and 60's when nude photography was taboo.
The photos are tasteful and the text is interesting and speaks of the models how they conducted themselves, and why they posed.

1 out of 5 stars Worth It.......2007-08-10

Great publication, although it's a bit large for the average coffee table. The photos are high quality and the commentary is interesting and well written. I only wish there was a greater variety of models and more everyday women featured. Certainly a conversation starter!

5 out of 5 stars Better Than I Imagined - Great On Several Levels.......2007-07-16

From the "perv" in me, the focus on breasts, frankly, is right up my alley. :)

The execution of this book, however, is clearly on the art book level. It is a beautiful, large coffee table style book. The large b/w and color photos are extraordinary and beautifully printed. The text gives both context for these photos and offers extensive interviews with various models and people involved in the business. Furthermore, the plastic cover of the book is actually a virtual bra for the woman's torso underneath it. If you look at the cover art on this page, the black bra can be "removed" by removing the plastic dust jacket. Extremely clever. This book would be worth it at its retail price of $50, but at the approximately $33, it's a bargain. Even my wife, who is not particularly interested in women's bodies, found this book fascinating.

5 out of 5 stars Great coffee table book.......2007-07-05

This book had wonderfully entertaining interviews and high quality photographs. I recommend it for the aficionado in your life.

Book Description

Drs. Elizabeth Morris and Laura Liberman, two rising stars in breast MRI from the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, edited this complete, superbly illustrated practical guide. The comprehensive text is written by contributors from the top cancer centers in the world. Introductory chapters are devoted to diagnosis and cover the basics of performing breast MRI exams, setting up a breast MR program, and understanding clinical indications. Additional chapters discuss breast interventional procedures, including the surgeon's use of MR and MR-guided needle interventions. A comprehensive diagnostic atlas completes the volume and addresses the spectrum of clinical situations, such as various carcinomas, special tumor types, and benign histologies. Radiologists, residents, and fellows will benefit from this guide's thorough examination of image interpretation, which highlights pitfalls that specialists must recognize.

Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book has been considered the bible of breast-care books since it appeared in 1990. In 1995, Love completely updated the book in a 600-page second edition, including new biopsy and screening methods, implants, the pros and cons of hormone therapy, new discoveries in breast-cancer treatment, and many other topics. Every chapter has been rewritten, with the exception of the anatomy chapter ("The breast, I'm glad to report, is still located on the chest!"). Love presents copious medical information in a simple, welcoming style, and plentiful illustrations make the information even clearer. About two-thirds of the book deals with breast cancer: risk factors, prevention, screening, diagnosis, staging, emotions, treatment options, surgery, alternative treatments, clinical trials, and more. But the book isn't just about breast cancer. It's also about breast development, physiology, bras, nursing, sexuality--if it has to do with breasts, Love discusses it. Love also debunks breast myths: underwire bras do not cause cancer, neither do bruises or injuries; "fibrocystic disease" isn't really a disease. The book includes a wealth of resources: books, treatment centers, and organizations (but no Web sites--perhaps in the third edition?). --Joan Price

5 out of 5 stars The Bible of Breast's Books.......2007-09-06

This is the most complete and readable book on the breast. If you are diagnised with breast cancer, this book is the one to buy. You don't have to read it from cover to cover but you can find the section pertaining to your needs. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer almost ten years ago, a friend brought me this book. I have since bought it for several other friends.

5 out of 5 stars The best!.......2007-08-13

This is the most readable and complete book on the subject. It is especially recommended for anyone dealing with breast cancer. It provides up-to-date info in an understandable manner. Also see the web site.

5 out of 5 stars Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book:4th Edition 2005 .......2007-07-14

I bought this book for a good friend of mine who was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The book was suggested to me by my mother who just underwent a double mastectomy. My friend is very thankful for this book. She told me it has helped tremendously with questions she has about her condition and treatment options.

So while I haven't personally read this book, I would defiantly recommend it to anyone who has the tragedy of being diagnosed with breast cancer.

5 out of 5 stars Must have for Breast Cancer Patient/Family.......2007-03-26

This was recommended to me by a co-worker of a friend. I now recommended it to a anyone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer or have a loved one who has. Dr. Susan Love explains things fully and in a very easy to understand manner. No matter how good of a support team of doctors you have, there are going to be questions that come up when you're not in a doctors office. Better yet, by reviewing the book, you'll think of things you SHOULD ask. It helped me both prior to my surgery, immediately after my surgery and will continue to be a wonderful reference book as 'things' come up.

5 out of 5 stars A must have reference for all women........2007-03-09

Dr. Love's book should be standard issue for all women.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars disinformation.......2007-10-10

I was sorely disappointing in reading just the first chapter. Information relayed in the book as to epidural effects on breastfeeding was used as a scare tactic as was the pushing natural delivery.

I was most disappointed because this is a group that comes highly recommended and yet presents opinions as facts that are in direct contrast to the Mayo Clinic.

It was a waste of $13.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT resource.......2007-10-04

You know the LLL is the number one agency for breastfeeding resource and this is THEIR book. LOTS of info for those women who are undertaking this labor of love and want to be ready.

3 out of 5 stars Not very helpful for new moms.......2007-09-24

Following the birth of my first child, I had lots of questions about breastfeeding, despite my attendance of a breastfeeding class and appointments with a lactation consultant. This book provides some motivation to breastfeed, but did not answer many of my questions, esp. technical ones regarding supply/demand, latch-on problems, etc.

Instead I recommend the Sears' breastfeeding book or The Nursing Mother's Companion by Huggins.

5 out of 5 stars Every breastfeeding moms bible!.......2007-09-18

I used this book when my 7 yr old was born, actually after reading so many conflicting books, I NEEDED this book. Now my neighbor has a new baby, & I purchased this book for her. You just have to read what you need to know, don't take heart to some of the things the book will advise. La Leche can come on strong, but they have good intentions, and the book is one of them! Definately a good guide for new moms, or neighbors helping new moms! :-)

5 out of 5 stars The Breastfeeding Book Every Woman Needs.......2007-09-16

Trust me, I read them all before my son was born. This is the one that got me through those 2am crises and supported me through our entire breastfeeding experience from birth to child-led weaning. Its solid information with good backing from a variety of professionals.

In clear, easy-to-understand language, an internationally recognized expert explains the benefits of using progesterone and other natural hormones to reduce or eliminate menopausal symptoms safely and effectively-without the harmful side effects created by commonly used synthetic hormone replacement therapy (HRT). 5 out of 5 stars Essential Reading for All Women.......2007-09-20

Women at every stage of life should read "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause", "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Pre-Menopause" and "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer". No one is too young or too old to read them. The late Dr. Lee had nothing to sell except the important information in the books. Of course everyone is an individual; naturally every statement won't apply to one and all, and that is OK. The books obviously are not a substitute for competent medical care; however, you make the best decisions when you have the most information. Incidentally, you may meet some people who have misinterpreted Dr. Lee's books and will say they advise women never use estrogen in any form. He strongly advised against the combination tablets that are made of Premarin with artificial progesterone. These are not bio-identical and have been proven dangerous in highly publicized studies, as Dr. Lee had said beforehand. Dr. Lee's outstanding contribution was in helping us understand the uses and benefits of natural progesterone cream, offering information you may not hear from your doctor ... this natural cream happens to be available over-the-counter. Unlike the synthetic prescribed forms, this cream has the same chemistry as that made by the body. It is derived from plants and is used transdermally for most effective results. It is a wonderful supplement for many women with many benefits but the key is that it stands alone in working to rebuild bone. Bone is automatically lost during the menopausal years and the progesterone was well-proven by Dr. Lee to work by his carefully documented studies over many years. Also excellent are the book "Menopause Without Medicine" by Linda Ojeda and the book "Smart Medicine for Menopause" and any other book by Sandra Cabot, M.D. Here's to good health and competent advice!

5 out of 5 stars a must-have book!.......2007-09-16

I read the precursor to this book a few (OK, more) years ago - What Your Doctor May not Tell You About Premenopause - and it was absolutely wonderful. So I bought this book, and was not disappointed! The information and timely advice has changed the way I feel. Following it has given me new energy and brought my body (and life) back into balance. If you (or someone you love) is at, or preparing for, this stage of life, it's a must-read!

5 out of 5 stars I learned a lot........2007-07-23

Fabulous book that I told my nurse practictioner about. Made sense to me. This book really explained the hormonal changes besides estrogen and causes of many of my symptoms. Worth the price.

5 out of 5 stars Read if you are female (any age) or know someone who is........2007-04-19

As a man who cares deeply about his woman, I have an eye for other men who genuinely care for the well-being of women. That trait is evident in the author of this great book, and is my best reason for recommending it.

1 out of 5 stars Please Be Careful - I Learned The Hard Way.......2007-02-03

Bio-identical hormones are not all they are cracked up to be. They have serious, dangerous impacts on the human body. Please, if you are going to try these, do your homework first. A growing number of women are experiencing lethal side effects. Some don't make it out the other side. I am one of the lucky ones - I survived the blood clots in my legs and two near-fatal, year-long illnesses connected with use of "natural" progesterone. Since that time, I have been contacted by scores of women who have suffered due to use of these hormones. I hope this information will be helpful to someone else, too. Please, safeguard your health - no one else is going to do it for you.

2 out of 5 stars Only For Early Stage Cancer.......2007-08-22

This book constatnly refers to the good results now achieved for stage I and II breast cancers. The author never even mentions later stage cancers. I was diagnosed at stage III and read most of it thinking, "What about me? Am I doomed?" I'm not doomed, but I would only recommend this book for women with early stage breast cancer.

5 out of 5 stars Helped me keep my sanity during an insane time.......2007-06-24

Survior! Had my lumpectomy surgery 11-30-06.I Love this book. It helped me in so many ways, from being able to laugh to being able to cry. Ms Cohen's upfront and honest insight on what goes on during the breast cancer treatment process was tremendously helpful.

It helped me to make lists of questions for my doctors, to being able to get through some of those really bad days. This book helped me keep my sanity during a true time of insanity in my life. BUY IT for yourself, or buy it for a friend who has been diagnosed.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Book!.......2007-05-29

This is a very thoughtful and well put together book. It is written so that you can actually understand what's going on, without the technical jargon.

    5 out of 5 stars A wonderful book!.......2007-04-03

Bought this for a dear friend who is battling cancer right now. So very, very often, she refers to it and says how helpful are the more practical, "in the trenches" insights offered. This is not a technical medical book, but more like a converstaion with a knowledgeable friend who has "been there."

    5 out of 5 stars Great resource.......2007-01-10

This book is a great resource. Being confronted with a cancer diagnosis is always an unwelcome surprise. In my case, it was my sister who was diagnosed and I found this book invaluable in helping me pick my "battles" as far as stressing to her what was really important in terms of her self care and at what points she really needed to call the doctor. She had a lot of denial about even being sick, so having lists that give specifics (i.e., temperature above 100.8) of when to call the doctor helped a lot. For you or I, an elevated temp is merely an inconvenience, but for a cancer patient on chemo, it is something you can't ignore. There are also other lists of things you just wouldn't think to have ready "just in case" that were very helpful. I highly recommend this book for anyone going through this.
