Book Description
Succubus (n.) An alluring, shape-shifting demon who seduces and pleasures mortal men. Pathetic (adj.) A succubus with great shoes and no social life. See: Georgina Kincaid.
When it comes to jobs in hell, being a succubus seems pretty glamorous. A girl can be anything she wants, the wardrobe is killer, and mortal men will do anything just for a touch. Granted, they often pay with their souls, but why get technical?
But Seattle succubus Georgina Kincaid's life is far less exotic. Her boss is a middle-management demon with a thing for John Cusack movies. Her immortal best friends haven't stopped teasing her about the time she shape-shifted into the Demon Goddess getup complete with whip and wings. And she can't have a decent date without sucking away part of the guy's life. At least there's her day job at a local bookstore--free books; all the white chocolate mochas she can drink; and easy access to bestselling, sexy writer, Seth Mortensen, aka He Whom She Would Give Anything to Touch but Can't.
But dreaming about Seth will have to wait. Something wicked is at work in Seattle's demon underground. And for once, all of her hot charms and drop-dead one-liners won't help because Georgina's about to discover there are some creatures out there that both heaven and hell want to deny...
"What an incredible debut novel! Succubus Blues is exciting, witty, sexy, intriguing and had me captivated from the first page." --Cheyenne McCray, author of Seduced by Magic

Four and a Half Stars.......2007-09-16
Georgina Kincaid is a succubus, living in Seattle, working by day in a bookstore whilst at the same time trying to squeeze in her otherworldly duties. However, there are more deadly things at play in Seattle as Georgina is about to discover.
Sometimes you read the first page of a book and you just know you're in for a wonderful read. Succubus Blues takes us into the life of the working demon and makes it real. It shows how the road to hell can be paved with good intentions, and illustrates how the concepts of good and evil are ambiguous.
As it's written in the first person we are immediately drawn into Georgina's world; which is so like our own. She has her friends (Hugh the imp, Cody her vampire dancing partner) and her enemies, and she has to please her boss - Jerome the archdemon.
Georgina is a witty and self-deprecating protagonist and as we get to know her through the course of the story we become aware of her sadness as well. She is a succubus with all that entails, and although there are romantic elements to this story, I would classify it as urban fantasy rather than romance. The life of the succubus is not glamorised, and although there are sexual situations, the sex scenes when they take place are not gratuitous. Indeed given the subject matter you may have expected more.
There is a lack of strong female secondary characters but given Georgina's nature perhaps this is not surprising. And the male characters more than make up for this - Seth, the shy, reserved writer, who Georgina not so secretly hero-worships; Hugh, Peter and Cody - her friends; and the surprising double act of Jerome (the local archdemon) and Carter (the angel) who, whenever they appear, steal the scene. You really feel you're gaining an insight into the lives of these `evil' immortals, and at the end of the story it's hard to say whether any of them are intrinsically evil or good - they are all just trying to do the best they can.
Like Cool Ranch Doritos.......2007-09-12
Push off all the books stacked on your nightstand and make a nice space for Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead. Don't worry, the space won't be occupied long. This is one of those books like a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos. All of a sudden you look down and realize that you just finished off the whole dang thing in one sitting.
Georgina Kincaid sold her soul a millenia ago to spare her family. Now she's an immortal succubus and keeps her youthful glow by screwing men. The pure upright and moral souls give her a bigger fix. Although her mission is to rack up more souls for Hell, she's a likeable gal. Without giving away the whole delcious story, I'll just throw in these other factors: a demon boss who looks like John Cussak, one of God's own angels, and Georgina's favorite author who turns out to be an introverted geek...yet somehow freakin steaming hot.
Now, you'd think with a succubus as a main character, the story would be porn ala Laurel K. Hamilton. Surprisingly, there's only one significant sex scene (and significant it is!). Unlike Hamilton, Mead has whipped up a fresh new mythology based on old world legends, with likeable characters that have serious room to grow. Good news is that this is book one in a series. Book two, Succubus on Top is due out in December.
Her contemporary fantasy writing style is like Kim Harrison, Rachel Caine, Carrie Vaughn and Patricia Briggs. Good company, I'm tellin ya!
I really wanted to like this one...........2007-09-09
:::::SPOILIER ALERT:::::::
You know, after reading the first chapter, I was really looking forward to this one. It seemed witty and interesting (the life of a succubus)because I've always liked seeing the story from the other side. I like the grey area. It seems more true to real life. So that said, why the low rating?
Well, first of all, it really dragged along the first 100 pages. I mean really dragged on. Yes, I know it was meant to show Gorgina's life as ordinary, not so different from humans (asst. manager job at bookstore)and all the mundane daily riturals, well except for the succubus part. From walking to work, working at the cafe, playing with her cat, obsessing over an auther etc. But, I felt some of it could have be shortened to move the story along. It just wasn't engaging enough. I mean why else do you pick up a book.
Second, Georgina seemed pretty clueless about her own world. I mean she really knew nothing about fallen angels, how the other creatures of the night could be killed...including herself. For someone as old as her, you would think she'd have plenty of time to ponder and find out answers. I mean,I knew more than her. Yes, I know this is fantasy, but it has to be made in a way thats believable for the reader.
::::::Spoiler Alert::::::::::::
Thirdly, I really stopped sympathizing for her about a third of the way through. Okay, yes she's a succubus but really that part was okay with me. But, she lolled back and forth with Seth and Roman. So torn but engulfed in either or depending on who was with her at the moment. That I could bare with, since it was an act at character growth (feeling for these men, but torn with being a succubus)but man did she drag them through the dirt. But the real killer for me was when she finally found out who the "bad guy" so to speak was, and after soul searching :) she was going to run away with him, if he chose to back down. After he pours his heart out to her, confesses everthing about his beaten life on the lamb, and decides to back down...what does she do...hang him out to dry. Then when the other boyfriend comes around (just when things start to get ugly because of her betrayal), she decides, well its actually this one I love not the other one (who's being destroyed as we speak). And she has no second thought (regret or pity) about the other, well except the fear for her own life.
It really put a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not one of those who always looks for a happy ending. But, when it come to the main character of a series, you have to at least like her or you know sympathize with her, to be interested in seeing her life unfold.
Oh well, I know this wasn't the nicest review and I'm sorry about that but, I couldn't help commenting when I'd been so terribly disappointed with it.
I know authors can take down comments if they feel its unfair. And I honestly don't feel its unfair, as well as others I've talked too. So, we shall see if she reads this....and if its gone....we'll know she deleted it.
Surprisingly delightful.......2007-09-05
It's hard to like a succubus, but Mead makes her character very enticing with Kincaid's internal conflicts. The author blends various types of fantasy with not only a compelling storyline but also with an overarching conflict that obviously will continue with sequels. Mead deftly twists her plot so readers will be carried along without intuiting the ending. I'm excited the sequel will be coming in Dec. '08. This is definitely a series to watch with its appealing characters.
Very Surprised.......2007-08-21
I resisted reading this book for quite awhile. From the cover and the title, I thought it would be filled with a lot of gratuitous sex and very little plot. I was wrong. This book was GOOD. The characters were realistic and compelling, and I can't wait until the next book comes out.

Book Description
Museum curator Summer Hawthorne considered the exquisite ice-blue ceramic bowl given to her by her beloved Japanese nanny a treasure of sentimental valueuntil somebody tried to kill her for it.
The priceless relic is about to ignite a global power struggle that must be stopped at all costs. It's a desperate situation, and international operative Takashi O'Brien has received his directive: everybody is expendable. Everybody. An up and down reading experience.......2007-09-09
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.
I was half enjoying this rather slow-moving romantic suspense. Doing my best to ignore some lapses in pc-ness, when on page 152, I was hit by the most gigantic bulldozer of an offensive ethnic stereotype. I had to stop reading and start writing the review. In retrospect, the stereotyping started long before then. In fact it started the minute the hero, Takashi O'Brien, rescued the heroine Summer Hawthorne. Not to mention the token African-American best friend who gets killed for no good reason at all.
Although the word is not used in the novel, Takashi, exemplifies the word `inscrutable.' I just chose to ignore that fact. What I couldn't ignore was when on page 152 he declares that his special skill is that he 'knows how to (mid market clothing label).' Oh brother.
Despite this I did finish Ice Blue. And I think to myself. How predictable the plots for this series are becoming. I wouldn't say I know what will happen in each novel. I definitely can predict the order in which events occur however. Ice Blue is a pale pale shadow of Cold As Ice. Takashi would probably have done better with his Japanese intended. A movie I always vaguely remember seeing is Throne of Blood. Since then I just totally fall at the feet of scheming Japanese females.
Ice Blue is rather tame really. The first half is basically spent riding around in 3 different cars. I had difficulty in seeing what other reviewers have objected to. Is it that Takashi tries to murder Summer? Or that he gives her the big O and then leaves her lying in a boneless puddle on the floor. At one point I thought these two were NEVER going to get it together. And tbh the way Takashi treats Summer is a lot more interesting than the baddie part of the plot. You just know that on the day Summer presents him with their first child Taka-chan is going to have the most massive nervous breakdown as he remembers what he almost did.
Goes without saying I'll be pre-ordering the next one in the series, Ice Storm.
Stuart Is A Master of the Arrogant Hero.......2007-08-11
I love Anne Stuart. I love her arrogant, control freak heroes and most of the time I love her heroines.
When we caught a glimpse of Taka O'Brian in Cold As Ice I had a feeling he'd be next and I wasn't disappointed to hear he'd be taking center stage in Ice Blue.
In fact, I wasn't disappointed in anything about Ice Blue. This is classic Stuart, a hero who isn't typical by any stretch. Flawed, damaged, hard as nails and you wonder if there's even a heart in there sometimes. But there is and slowly, Taka's character unfurls even as Summer's own does too.
I haven't ever read a Stuart novel where it felt comfortable and Ice Blue is no exception. Her books aren't for the faint of heart or if you're in the mood for a softer love story. From the first page, she will shove you to the edge and keep you there the whole time. It's a powerful, exhausting way to write and I admire her skill greatly.
Anyway, as you can tell, I loved the book and I'll definitely be back for more. She's setting the stage for Isobel to get a story and that little bit between Reno and Jilly was telling too. I can't wait
Really Bad.......2007-07-04
This book is so bad I don't know how it got such a high rating. The plot is lousy and the characters worse. So I did something I have not done but a few times in all my years. I threw it in the trash when I finished reading it. I will not even pass it on to someone else.
One of Anne Stuart's Best Bad Boys.......2007-07-03
Wow! Summer Hawthorne and Takashi O'Brien are by far the best couple so far in Anne Stuart's Ice series. Takashi is an operative for the super secret Committee. His mission is to retrieve an ancient Japanese urn and then eliminate its owner Summer. If the urn falls into the wrong hands or Summer herself, for that matter, countless lives could be lost. A crazed religious fanatic believes the urn holds the key to his apocalyptic vision.
Summer is a pragmatic American. She knows the religious sect wants the urn so she is doing all she can to keep them away from it. The moment Takashi enters her life, it is never the same.
He rescues her from danger time and again but she also is aware he could kill her at any moment. Takashi is a man use to following orders but he finds reasons not to obey the Committee chairwoman, who sees Summer as a real liability.
This book is a roller coaster ride of adventure. Takashi and Summer move from one high drama to the next as they try to stay one step ahead of the religious cult leader and his henchmen.
Anne Stuart marvelously keeps the tension simmering. Both Summer and Takashi are incredibly complex individuals that seem perfect for each other from their first meeting. Summer is very likeable. Rarely are romance heroines bold, smart and vulnerable. She does not have to be continually rescued from her own plans. Summer is too intelligent for that. She realizes Takashi and the Committee hold most of the cards.
Takashi is alpha male but also vulnerable to Summer. Anne Stuart allows the reader glimpses of his family situations past and present (he is half Japanese and American, grandson to a Japanese mobster) which makes for a full character development. He walks the fine line between hero and villain. No one can write about the tortured hero/ bad boy like Anne Stuart. This one goes on my keeper shelf.
Ice Blue.......2007-06-02
I really liked all three of Anne Stuart Ice books (Ice Blue, Black Ice, and Cold as Ice) and although not sold or told that the 3 are a series, I read them in the proper order.
The only draw back with this author is the fact that she enjoys taking the Lords name in vain. I do not understand why authors need to use God and Jesus Christ as swear words in there text. You can still say and get the point across without using God and Jesus Christ. It just seems that in todays age it is just an acceptable thing, but authors should really think about what they are writing and putting out there. It is not just Anne Stuart that writes this way.
Will Anne Stuart be doing another Ice book with Reno and Jilly in it? Was Reno part of the committee, without his brother knowing it? Just food for thought. I did enjoy the books.
Book Description
A revolution in the way we use artificial lighting is underway, one that is every bit as sweeping and significant as Edison's invention of the light bulb. The technology of light emitting diodes (LEDs) is ready for widespread implementation. Its impacts will include a reduction in energy consumption for electric lighting by up to 80 percent.
Brilliant! tells the story of Shuji Nakamura, a gifted Japanese engineer who came out of nowhere to stun the world with his announcement that he had created the last piece in the puzzle needed for manufacturing solid-state white lights. The invention of this holy-grail product, which promises to make Edison's light bulb obsolete, had eluded the best minds at the top electronic firms for twenty-five years. Until his startling announcement, Nakamura had not even been on the radar screen of most industry observers.
Veteran technology writer Bob Johnstone traces the career of Nakamura, which included many years of obstinate individual effort as well as a dramatic legal battle pitting him against his former Japanese employer. Over a five-year span, Nakamura distinguished himself with an unprecedented series of inventionsbright blue, green, ultraviolet, and then white LEDs, plus a blue laser that will play an essential role in the next-generation DVD players. Then he was forced to leave Nichia Chemical, the company where he had worked for twenty years, and his former employer sued him. The result was a multimillion-dollar settlement in a landmark decision that acknowledged, for the first time, the rights of individual inventors working in a corporate context. Today, Nakamura holds a professor's chair at the University of California at Santa Barbara, where he continues to develop the technology of LEDs.
Johnstone, the first Western journalist to meet and interview Nakamura, has received the brilliant engineer's full cooperation through a series of exclusive interviews given for the book. Johnstone has also interviewed other key players in the imminent lighting revolution, providing an exciting preview of the technological, entrepreneurial, and artistic creativity that will soon be unleashed by Nakamura's inventions.

Any science library strong in invention history needs BRILLIANT!.......2007-07-27
BRILLIANT! SHUJI NAKAMURA AND THE REVOLUTION IN LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY tells of the evolution of LED technology and how it was stalled over making an LED that would emit the bright blue light needed to make useful white light LEDs - until researcher Shuji Nakamura's key invention which single-handedly created the industry of solid-state lighting. Author Bob Johnstone is the first Western journalist to meet and interview Nakamura, and here provides a powerful blend of science and biography to show how the inventor made his ground-breaking discovery and how LEDs are revolutionizing the world. Any science library strong in invention history needs BRILLIANT!

Must read book on Nakamura and LEDs.......2007-06-02
I heartily recommend this book for people who are interested in innovation, business, science, technology, etc. The book tells the fascinating story of Nakamura and the impact LEDs are having on the lighting industry.
Part One of the book tells the story of how Nakamura invented the first commercially successful GaN LED. Part Three explains how Nakamura became unwanted at Nichia and how he decided to move to UCSB. Parts Two and Four talk about some of the companies that are using LEDs to make exciting new products. I'll be a nit picker and say the book should be titled "Shuji Nakamura and the *Coming* revolution in Lighting Technology" because the revolution is just starting.
Although LEDs have been around for about four decades and everyone already owns products that incororate them, very few people understand the potential of LEDs and the impact that they will have on lighting over the next few years. The conversion to white LEDs for general lighting is underway. People will want to understand more about this phenomenon as they recognize the impact that LEDs are having on the lighting industry and energy consumption. The good news is that this book will serve as a tutorial for people who want to learn about LEDs.
A MUST READ for environmentalists and investors!!.......2007-05-15
Brilliant!!! Refreshing!!! Bob Johnstone is correct in espousing Shuji Nakamura as the leader of the LED revolution. Shuji's list of patents and accomplishments in his field far outshine all of his peers put together. Definitely a Nobel Prize in the works for Mr. Nakamura and hopefully a Pulitzer for Mr. Johnstone for his ability to explain this complex subject to the average reader in a true tale of high intrigue! The LED scientific community is still rather small. The competition for the holy grail (replacing the everyday lightbulb) is phenomenal. Bob and Shuji have this unusual, provocative combination that tells the story of this new high tech race. Bob spends quite a few chapters explaining the unusual and life changing ramifications of LED development worlwide. A must read for any investor or those with eco-green concerns!!!

This is a great series.......2007-03-25
This is a wonderful series about two people who shared their lives with four children who otherwise would have ended up as statistics. Each book tells the story of a son they adopted, and the fourth book in the series tells of the last adopted son, but shows how these two people changed so many lives just by giving love. It gives you hope without hype. Buying the series makes it even better because you can immediately go from one the next and it all stays tied together neatly with no stops. Also, it's cheaper in the set than separately!

Pass on this Twilight book-- Maggie Shayne's worst book to date!.......2006-03-10
I am a huge fan of Maggie Shayne's so I was very disappointed with this book. Ms. Shayne relied too much on the success of her past Twilight books to carry her through this one.
I couldn't have cared any less for Max & Lou, and certainly didn't feel any romance between them. This book seemed thrown together to satisfy the Twilight readers' desire for another in this series. I hope her next one is more like the older books in the Twilight series. Before I waste money buying the next one, I will read through it to see if she's gotten the spark of the eary Twilight books back.

Paranormal Romantic Suspense
Present Day - White Plains, New York & Endover, New Hampshire
"Mad" Maxine Stuart and her long time best friend Tempest "Storm" Jones are embarking on new careers as licensed private investigators, specializing in paranormal investigations. Max, Storm, and ex-police detective Lou Malone were instrumental in uncovering a covert government organization, DPI, the Department of Paranormal Investigation. They destroyed the DPI facility in White Plains and learned more about the paranormal than any of them wanted to. What they learned about vampires, in particular, will be very helpful in their new enterprise.
Max would like nothing better than to have Lou join their firm, but Lou has other plans. Retired from the police force, he tries to convince Max, and himself, that he just wants to fish and relax. But Max isn't buying it. At forty-four, Lou is too young to spend the rest of his life fishing, and if Max has anything to say about it, he won't. Max has been in love with Lou for ten years, since she was sixteen years old. She's done everything she can to show him that she's interested, but he never takes her "flirting" seriously. With a bit of trickery, Max gets Lou to accompany them to Maine where she and Storm will be living and opening their new business.
The trio no sooner arrives in Maine than a frantic call from Jason, an old friend, has them heading to Endover, New Hampshire, where two teenaged girls have disappeared. As Max, Storm, and Lou help Jason discover what happened to his sister and her friend it quickly becomes apparent that something is wrong with the town of Endover. Someone or something has a hold on the town that makes its residents little more than mindless drones. To complicate things, Storm, who suffers from unusual dreams and blackouts since recovering from a bullet wound to the head, grows worse. She sees and hears things she doesn't understand and begins to feel that she is not alone in her body. When this other force takes over, Storm has no memory of what happens during the blackouts. Meanwhile, Max continues her campaign to win Lou's heart despite his continued refusal to entertain thoughts of a relationship between them.
As Max works to find the missing teens, unravel the mystery of what is happening to Storm, and yearns for Lou's love, a dark menace is watching her every move. Whatever controls the town of Endover is now trying to get to Max, and through her, to Storm. Will they figure out what is going on before it's too late -- or will Max lose her life, never realizing her dream of a life with Lou?
Spine-tingling suspense laces the pages of BLUE TWILIGHT, the spectacular new book in Maggie Shayne's Twilight Series. In BLUE TWILIGHT the reader is reintroduced to Maxine, Storm, and Lou, all characters who have played key roles in previous novels. The story revolves around an ancient being who has controlled the town of Endover for years, a powerful and single-minded man who will stop at nothing to gain what he most wants -- more power and his lost love. Max and Lou's relationship, along with Storm's strange affliction, add elements of humor, passion and danger to the whole. Max is a woman who often acts on instinct and with passion, getting herself into a lot of trouble. Lou is always there to save her from her own actions, and he protects her with a fierceness that belies his claim that they are only friends. Lou has a lot of his own baggage, and he struggles with his feelings for Max, not believing he is the right man for her. As the danger escalates, so do the emotions of the key players.
The narrative is vivid and descriptive, especially in the portrayal of the miasma that hovers over Endover. It was easy to imagine the town and its people and the feeling of apathy that slowly creeps up on Max, Lou, and Storm the longer they stay. The dialogue is crisp and realistic, and the interactions between the characters believable, lively, and emotional. This is a group of people with deep bonds who find themselves questioning everything and everyone around them. The villain in the piece is not quite what the reader expects, and he garners almost as much sympathy as fear.
As I was reading the final pages of BLUE TWILIGHT, it was with a pounding heart and anxious worry over how it would all turn out. After turning the last page, I was left with many of my questions answered, but enough left open that I cannot wait until the next book, PRINCE OF TWILIGHT, comes out next year.
A novel that will grab you from the first page and never let up, BLUE TWILIGHT is one of the best paranormal suspense novels I've read this year, and the ending will knock your socks off!

Rather empty and contrived.......2005-07-27
This book suffered from severe perspective lapses. It used third-person omniscient, and it really killed any and all dramatic tension. The vampire was barely evil, barely dark, barely anything more than a glamorized stereotype.
The characters' dialogue was also highly unbelievable and forced.
Entertaining, and needed, but not really that interesting............2005-07-19
I have read all the others and could not put them down. This is a good book if you have not read her others in the vampire series. it just isn't as good as the others.
First of all, you have to stop and go back in time because the book is basically a bunch of missed details from previous books. Honestly, I wasn't that interested in the characters when they showed up in the previous books, so to start reading it and realize that the entire book are these characters that bore me to death was very disappointing.
The details are interesting, and needed for the next book which seems WAAAAAAAY better, but won't be out for quite some time. A complete teaser book.
Like I said before, if you don't already read and adore her other vampire books, then this is probably a pretty good book for you, but I just found it lacking in the qualities the other books are abundant in.
Blue Twilight -Vampire romance.......2005-04-29
Blue Twilight was an amazing well written Romance novel... Strong story line, which I haven't found in other romances.
The book opens with an erotic scene between a vampire and unnamed female victim... but I really hesitate to call her a victim.. He is gentle, careful, taking care to make sure she is not afraid.... He makes the experience pleasant for her and after feeding doesn't kill the woman, but simply erases her memory of the event and sends her back to where she came from.
The body of the book is centered around four main characters (an ex-cop, two young female PI's, and an old friend in trouble)... typical "I love him but he doesn't love me", "I love her, but can't get involved." theme under the story.

babybookmama.......2005-08-22
I love Tana Hoban so when I found she did colored images I was very excited. The photos are nice, crisp and right on target with the colors. Simple color learning book.
Our household's all-time-favorite toddler book.......2004-01-16
We have six children, and this is/was the hands-down favorite of all our children as toddlers. We received it as a gift when our 13 yo was a baby, and now our toddler twins are enjoying it. I believe our children learned their color names from this book. They also like Hoban's "Black on White." I wouldn't hesitate to buy this for any under 2's you might have.
Not as Popular the Black/White Books at Our House.......2000-06-21
As my son grew older and more interested in colors, I looked for a book that would delight him as much as "Black on White" (also by Tana Hoban) had when he was an infant. I thought this book would fill that description, but it didn't quite fit the bill. It has great photographs, but no text.
Despite the catchy, rhyming title, each page shows only a picture of the item: No rhyming text is involved. Although my son likes the brightly colored pictures, he is more interested when I read books with rhythmic texts, such as "Blue Hat, Green Hat" by Sandra Boynton.
Great baby or toddler book.......1999-12-06
My daughter really enjoys this book. It is simple and gives toddlers a chance to learn their colors. We've read it so many times my daughter who is two can now read it herself!
A winner!!!.......1999-08-10
This book is a favorite at our house! The durable book has one large, colorful photograph of a common item on each page. The item's name and color are printed at the bottom (yellow shoe, red clock, black cat, etc.). It's easy for little hands to turn the pages as well as focus on each page. So many children's books these days seem to have TOO much information on each page. This book finds a way to attract the reader in a simple way with its beautiful photographs.

Short and Steamy Guilty Pleasure.......2006-07-25
If you've ever read any of the other 'Bad Boy' anthologies out there and liked them, you won't be disappointed with this one. This book contains six super short (50 pages each) and steamy contemporary romances. All are written well and a breeze to read. They're sort of like a snickers bar for your libido -a little guilty pleasure. Some are laugh out loud funny and some will make wish the book was water-proof for a cold shower. Nice beach read -on second thought you may not want to read these stories in public if your prone to blushing.:)
Momentary Relief from Real Life.......2006-07-24
Romance writers know how to fantasize and then put their imaginations on paper with extraordinary flair. Six of them make this compilation of skin tingling stories possible to be consumed by particular group of readers. The title of the collection is appropriate although the short narrations of attractions and entanglements could be savored more before turning in at night. Leave it to one's mind to be tickled by the fantasies where sweet dreams take over as the eyes closed shut after a long grueling day. Each story is a dilly.
Forget the sand and enjoy the read!.......2006-07-16
A really great collection for summer reading. Each story stands alone, though one or two are connected to other stories by the same author. Each story is just long enough to deal with attention span problems brought on by the heat! enjoy!
quick and fun!.......2005-07-14
This anthology was unlike any I'd read before. There are 6 authors, and at first I wasn't certain I'd feel fulfilled. However, it turned out to be a fun book. The stories are quick and if you are like me, sometimes it's nice to take a break from the long, intense romance stories and read something you can finish in one sitting. As a mom, I don't have loads of time to read, so this was a nice change of pace for me.
The most exciting stories were Foster's, McCarthy's, and Denison's. Those women know how to write a quick romance and leave you with a feeling of contentment.
Fast Fun Stories For The Road!!
The title of this book says it all !!.......2004-07-30
PERFECT FOR THE BEACH is truly the book to take to the beach with you. The story is very entertaining !!
Book Description
In times of crisis, loss and suffering, how can we continue to live with a clear mind and a peaceful heart? Can adversity offer unexpected gifts? In this spare, translucent memoir, Edie Hartshorne presents a collection of finely rendered vignettes that explore these questions. Through the tragic and unexpected loss of her eldest son, Edie is guided by music, spiritual exploration, and a sensitivity for nature to discover the hidden radiance of her own inner strength. Her transformational journey unfolds like a living work of art, inspiring us to remain open to kindness and compassion even in the midst of suffering. Within these delicately portrayed shadows of love and death, of joy and sorrow, shines a tender light of hope, wisdom and love.

A Journey of Recovery.......2007-09-19
It was hard to put this book down once I started reading it. I was completely engrossed and very moved. The author tells her story with abundant generosity of feeling and detail, sparing little about the depths of shock and pain at the loss of her son, and equally about her emotional and spiritual journey of recovery, the richness of her family relationships, her musical life, her time in Plum Village with Thich Nhat Hanh and her eventual work with refugee children in Croatia, all which serve to help heal her wounded heart as she slowly re-engages with the world.
Light in Blue Shadows.......2007-07-27
As a psychotherapist, I have recommended this book to my clients who have had tragedy in their lives. I think it is much better than "The Year of Magical Thinking." The process of healing is much more poetically spelled out; it is inspirational. Hartshorne is an incredible writer. This book is a gift to the forlorn.
Revealing the Grace of Healing.......2007-07-24
For me one of the very special aspects of this book is how it reveals the grace of healing that is available to us if we are willing to openly face our most overwhelming losses. Edie Hartshorne's journey through grief is a profound , deeply human and deeply moving story. This book is a teaching for us. It is a clear description of a process of growth both personal, and I believe universal as well, in that we can as readers feel the expanding and deepening of Hartshorne's heart and soul by the test of this most devestating trial by fire. But in the narration her humanness, vulnerability, and tenderness keep this story our story, any of us, all of us - the fragility and poignancy of living this human existence.
Life at its most Real.......2007-04-27
An extraordinary book! Edie Hartshorne gives a vivid description of her horror at the news of her son's unexpected death, poetically shares her feelings and thoughts through the depths of grief, and then brings us through to her resurgence as more fully alive, more fully attuned to the love and philosophical beauty in the world.
Light In Blue Shadows.......2007-03-26
"Light in Blue Shadows" is a jewel-like recounting of Edie Hartshorne's immense journey through the darkness of her son's apparent suicide, as she emerges back into life. Her story, so tenderly written, so personal, makes me appreciate my own life more, and awakens that sometimes slippery knowledge that we are strong, resilient beings who seek light.
She organically sieved from her days and her interactions the glimmers of light and reminders of life that came her way. And, somehow, her intractable grief did, in fact, transform. It is a miracle, it is a mystery, and she has thankfully chronicled it lest we ever forget that it is possible. I can see that I can use her book as a resource for myself as a reminder of this precious truth.
Her choice to write each offering in succinct, pointed bits was brilliant, as I was able to steep in each event, thought, or letter, as a meditation, or a poem. As haiku reverberates through spaciousness, so do each of Edie's chapters.
With honesty, humor, and a very gifted and real voice, Edie Hartshorne has offered a personal and universal experience of loss of a beloved.
