Customer Reviews:
Dissapointed.......2007-09-27
I will have to admit I was a little dissapointed in this book. It is mainly for domestic adoption and we are adopting internationally.
The Day we Met You.......2007-09-03
This book is a lot more specific to a very unprepared family than I would have hoped. I think most adoptive parents have something before they get on the list- a carseat, crib or bassinet- something...
Nice moments.......2007-06-13
I've enjoyed reading this book to our daughter. It's very simple and to the point, and though the details do not match our experience to the letter, it definitely communicates our excitement and preparations involved in becoming parents in this way. Our daughter (just turned 3) loves the title page photo that just shows a baby's hand holding a parent's finger--she's taken to doing that with us lately.
What do people expect?.......2007-03-04
I do not understand what people expect? This book was one of teh best (and we bought many) books to help my daughter understan dteh adoption process - it was teh only one which didn't involve teh birth mother which is something that can be introduced later when they are little older...
Though my daughter is from India (not domestic) it still works - children are not so literal to think a car seat means that you literally got a car seat.
4 years later it is still one of her favourite bed time stories and has helped us introduce teh concept of adoption very easily. I reccoemnd it to all new adoptive parents adopting small children.
Great to see a children's book on Domestic Adoption.......2006-10-17
The majority of the children's books I find seem to focus on international adoption. This book met my needs much better. It is very simplistic but that is a positive to me, since I began reading this book to my son when he was only a year old. It is a great way to start introducing adoption into your everyday vocabulary.

"This episode drawn from the Revolutionary War is related with historical accuracy and suspense and illustrated with finesse." (School Library Journal)
Customer Reviews:
One of our favorite revolutionary war books!.......2007-05-15
A great book to include in a unit study or just read out loud to your children. It is filled with excitement and intrigue for children. There is a book two to Phoebe the Spy!
Ryan Reader's 3.......2007-02-07
Phoebe Fraunces is a young girl that is on a mission to help Genearal George Washinngton and findd is trying to kill him.Phoebe had to be a spy. So she had to work undercover. She was a maid for Mr. Washington.I love this book because it was very mysterous.
Ryan's Readers 2.......2007-01-31
Phoebe the Spy is a great book. This is what happens: Phoebe's father asked Phoebe to be a spy and Phoebe said yes, she would do it. She was a brave girl. Phoebe is a wonderful spy. She helped save General Washington's life from Thomas Hickey. I likeed this book because it is a mystery book and I love mystery books.
Phoebe the Spy.......2007-01-19
This is an exciting and wonderful book, but the title character is not real. You can visit the Fraunces Tavern in NYC at Broad and Pearl Streets, and they will tell you that Sam never had a daughter named Phoebe. It is a great book to read, but they need to change the postscript in the back and let people know that the Fraunces family was not African-American, and Thomas Hickey was a traitor, not an assassin.
Great story.......2005-02-23
I liked this book alot! I had to read it for 5th grade so I thought it would stink, but it was really interesting.

Dora book review.......2007-05-26
What a cute way to get little ones interested in numbers. As usual, colors and pictures were eye catching.
A Good book.......2006-09-05
A cute book - small enough to take in the car -
my son enjoys it.
educational.......2006-03-24
This is a good book as it help kids to count both in Spanish and English and the Spanish is broken down for proper pronunciation. I would recommend it to any parent. Counting is only up to ten though.
Great Counting Book.......2006-01-10
My 18 month old daughter loves Dora. I bought this book in a boxed set so she could have some books with Dora. I really like this book because it uses different fruits and it's very colorful. Of course my daughter loves it since it's Dora. We've only had this book for about two weeks and I think I've read and/or listened to my husband read it about fifty times.
Adorable little book for Dora fans.......2005-07-06
My kids LOVE Dora and this sturdy little board book is the perfect introduction to counting in English and Spanish. They can pick out the various fruits, even the unusual ones like guavas and mangos, which are regular favorites in our home, and the bright and colorful pages keep them happily counting the fruit from one to ten.
There is even a handy little pronunciation bubble at the bottom on each page which comes in handy for me since I'm not bilingual but my husband is and we're trying to get our kids to speak Spanish and English while they are still young.
The fact that this book is small makes it the perfect companion in the car and the heavy board pages stand up well to toddler hands.

Covers the basics..........2005-09-26
I really like this book - granted, I wouldn't duplicate the exact styles in the book (it screams 1980s), but I know what styles I like, I just needed some guidance on how to make what I wanted to make. This book covers everything - window coverings, bed linens, etc. My only complaint is that sometimes the directions are SO simplified that it almost makes them confusing. But overall it was a great purchase. Also, I almost bought this book at a craft store close by, but ended up buying it on Amazon...with standard shipping it came two days later and was less expensive than the one at the craft store.
Excellent How-To Book.......2005-07-16
If you are interested in making your own home fabrics, this is a great resource. This book shows you step-by-step how to make no-sewing and simple sewing projects to personalize your home (and save money to boot!). This is not an interior decorating book; rather, it is a manual for people who want to spruce up their homes but need to know HOW. I didn't see any outdated information here - some of the styles were more "country" than others, but there is plenty here from other design styles to keep you busy. Also, you can tailor the majority of the ideas in this book to your tastes. All in all, a fantastic guide to sewing projects for the home.
Look at the design not the fabric!.......2002-10-21
When I got this book, I immediately noticed the value of the information offered. It has tons of details from fabric choices to what kind of tools to purchase. In the back it even offers "time saving" features which gives you ideas to use fabric in different ways from walls to glueing seams together to save time on sewing. The book places a lot of emphasis on certain things that beginners NEED to know. I am a beginner and have poured over tons of other books and nothing compares to this book in terms of teaching you how to do different techniques. Certainly, the fabric choices in this book are outdated, but use your imagination! You don't have to purchase the same fabric or color choices in this book. Purchase your own and use the outlines offered in this book. Even add your own. A great book to start with. Highly recommended!
Simplicity's Simply the Best Home Decorating Book.......2002-08-01
I think that this book is fantastic. It covers so many different home decorating projects, with very clear easy to follow instructions. It's a great addition to any home sewing reference library.
Not a good buy.......2002-02-27
I'm sorry I bought this book. Opening it was like walking back in time. I did not know how old it was until I had already bought the book. The how-to is OK but the decorating ideas (styles, colors) are old and dated.

Book Description
Everyone and everything in the world has a name. What is God s name? Like an ancient myth in its poetic text and vibrant illustrations, this modern fable about the search for God's name celebrates the diversity and, at the same time, the unity of all the people of the world. Each seeker claims he or she alone knows the answer. Finally, they come together and learn what God's name really is, sharing the ultimate harmony of belief in one God by people of all faiths, all backgrounds.
Customer Reviews:
No better book on the name of God........2006-06-08
Anyone with a child should buy this book. Anyone without a child should also buy this book!
I've used this book in a number of situations and first came across it at a retreat for those young Franciscans Friars in Religious Formation. It launched a wonderful discussion on our images of God. It is masterfully written and beautifully illustrated.
The way in which Sasso presents the variety of our images of God and how they all are equally useful and beautiful illustrates how we can move beyond our differences and become a sign of unity.
A great book to have in the house.
An Epistle in God's Name.......2005-10-09
A delightful and informative book. An easy read. Reminded me of Lucien gregore's A God for Lions. It is in that class.
Who is God for you.......2005-03-30
Words spoken and written in God's name often do not seem to do God justice. It is then delightful when you do come across words and images that gather together something of the essence of God.
Sandy Eisenberg Sasso and Phoebe Stone are amazingly talented women who manage to do just this!
Sasso is the author of the book `In God's Name', whose insightful words are complimented by Stone's drawings.
What is God's name? Is it Healer? Source of light? Ancient of Days? Shepherd? Mother? Peacemaker? What is the `best' name for God?
`In God's Name' wanders along a path searching out the right name for God; it encounters those who think they have found the perfect and only name for the one who is.
The drawings are both breathtaking and charming, creating a story of movement and grace and drawing attention to the life and wonder of that which God has made.
This book invites children, adults and communities to question who God is for them. It encourages discussion about the way God is perceived and named, and the importance of this to us.
It does not shy away from the fact that it is hard work to listen to others, especially about something so close to the centre of ourselves. It is difficult to listen to other's ideas about God, without interjecting with our own rights or wrongs.
Yet this book provides a path forwards. Valuing other's ideas and perceptions about God is a central theme to this work. Not only are the thoughts of the white haired grandfather given weight, but also the thoughts of a lonely child, of the farmer with skin like the rich brown earth, of the slave freed from bondage and of the young mother nursing her newborn. The insights these different characters provide from their own lives create opportunities for us to reflect on our experiences of God.
The beauty of the final scene in the book shows something of God's grace to us. All those who felt they knew the `right' name for God find themselves gathered around a clear still lake, something like a mirror - `God's mirror'.
In looking into the lake they recognise the many faces that belong to God and are unable to stop themselves from calling out in joy the countless and wonderful names that God has, and realising that they are all good names and none is better than another.
You cannot help but smile as you see the coming together of a community in which the members are able to celebrate the diversity of themselves and the God in whose image they have been made.
`In Gods name' provides countless opportunities for your faith community to gather closer to God as you search for the many names that God holds.
I don't know a better children's book!.......2001-12-08
Characters in the book share their name for God and in the end they all learn that God's specific name is not so important as their being respectful of each other's choices for God's name. Children and adults should enjoy this book. The illustrations are wonderful and the story is simple, yet very meaningful. This would be a great gift to share with friends of different faiths: a good way to let someone know that you are not prejudiced agianst their religious belief system...
A special gift for a godchild.......2001-11-12
I have four godchildren and have given each of them a copy of this book. The pictures are lovely, the story is poignant and the message is loving and true. I highly recommend this book and it will surely become a favorite for the child/godchild in your life.

One of our all-time favorites..........2007-03-12
Something from Nothing is a classic folktale retold by Phoebe Gilman in a delightful, playful way. My children love repeating Grandfather's refrain "Hmm, he said as his scissors went snip, snip, snip and his needle flew in and out and in and out. There's just enough material here to make..." along with me as I read and they love discovering new things the mouse family are up to under the family's floorboards or out on the town. They find something new every time! Joseph Had a Little Overcoat tells the same story but we like Something from Nothing much, much better.
Something from Nothing.......2006-07-11
This is one of my favorite children's books. I love the artwork and the retelling of an old story. It is a wonderful gift for all your best beloved children.
Something From Nothing.......2006-03-10
I love this book! I am now reading it to my young grandson.
It is such a heartwarming tale. It is really two stories in one because the little mice at the bottom of the pages are an important part of the story going on during the main portion of the book.
The pictures are charming and beautiful. This is my second copy of the book because as a teacher, I wore out the first one and didn't want my grandson to miss out on this special tale.
Wonderful.......2005-10-25
Ever since I was very small I loved this book. Once when I came home from a vacation it was gone. We heard it was out of print. But after a while it reprinted, we found our old book and have given the book to multiple people since then.

Engaging photos for little ones.......2006-03-10
The photos in the book appear to be lifted directly from the classic "Little Duck" "Little Lamb" etc. stories. No story, just photos of animals and their names. My son loves looking at the animals and pointing to them when I say their names- it's a nice little book to take along in the car or diaper bag.
Baby Magic.......2005-03-08
I don't know what it is about this book, but babies LOVE it. It's perfect for babies 5 months and up...easy to hold, easy to turn the pages, ok to gnaw on a little. The pictures are simple and clear. It's short on words, but inevitably you get into the animal sounds and talking about the animals and what they do. I include this with all baby shower gifts as a decoration to the top of the gift and my friends have all reported that their babies love this little gem.
Of all of the books my girls have loved to death, this is the only one I've actually gone out and bought again and again. It's a must have.
perfect first book.......2004-09-22
My 6 month old absolutely loved this book!!! All we had to do was put it in front of him and he laughed like crazy. Beautiful pictures, and the perfect size for a baby to hold.
Great Pictures.......1998-11-18
My son loves this book, he started at 6 months and still loves it at one and a half. Just pictures of animals and a label indicating what kind of animal it is. You get to do a lot of ellaborating.
Keeps my five month old son very interested........1998-07-17
Robert and I read this book about twice a day. It is a small boardbook, so he can help turn the pages. No words, just pictures of cute farm animals. I get to add all the sound effects (mooo. bah-bah, quack-quack, etc.) Robert loves it!!!

Great board book.......2007-05-16
I bought several copies of this book to use as gifts. I went through 3 copies during my two children's toddler years. Not bad since we had to read it several times a day and make the animal sounds with each page. I have fond memories of that time and am looking forward to giving the books so that others can enjoy them, too.
Sweet Book is a Favorite.......2000-06-02
This book just goes to show that you don't have to spend a lot on expensive items in order to make your child happy! This sweet little book of baby animals, with a few little humans as well, is one of the books my daughter (11 months) goes for every time. She loves this book and when we get to the end, she'll turn it back to the start for us to read it over and over and over again. We like the book because the photos are good at depicting the animals, unlike some children's books' drawings which are sometimes lacking in authenticity. Out of the approximately 50 books that we have bought her so far, this is one of her favorites right now, and combined with other types of books, makes for a nice mix in reading for her age. I hesitate to add that the book did come apart, but we glued it backed together with some non-toxic Elmer's Glue-All, and if it doesn't hold, we'd actually re-order it. So that should say something about our recommendation.

Customer Reviews:
Great Teaching Tool..........2006-02-02
The big thing in my house right now is Dora. My 19 month old daughter got hooked on it because of the boys at the babysitters that watch it. Since I've been wanting to teach her the concept of opposites, I figured what a great book to start with since it's Dora. The other bonus is that all of the English words have the Spanish word with it. As far as I'm concerned that's enough to get a five star rating from me.
Great!.......2005-08-04
This book was a great purchase. My daughter loves dora and with this book i can teach her about the opposites in spanish. I'm always looking for books in spanish to teach my little girl.
Good for teaching Spanish Vocabulary, not a story book.......2004-11-13
This is a good book for teaching children words in Spanish. It also did help my daughter in general with the concepts of opposites. It is not a story book though. It basically will tell you BIG/GRANDE on one page and SMALL/PEQUENO on the other. If you want a story book, this is not it. If your goal is to help encourage understanding of opposites and some Spanish vocabulary for the 2-4 set, this is a good book.
