Excellent resource for home or school. Full of good, practical ideas. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an ASD child in their life.

5 out of 5 stars loving it.......2007-05-21

I haven't even finished this book yet, but I have already had a few "ahh-ha!" moments courtesy of this book. I would definitely recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT resource.......2007-05-14

I am a Special Education teacher who works with students with ASD. I purchased this book hoping that it would add to my knowledge of ASD and to find more ideas for the classroom. This is an AMAZING book full of ideas and facts. The best part of the book is that the authors provide titles of books to use, organizations and internet sites to help you out, instead of just giving you ideas and blindly sending you on your way to search for titles and the like yourself. This is a great resource for parents, organizations and educators- beginning and experienced. HIGHLY recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book!.......2007-04-10

This is one of the better ASD books that I have read. Every parent and teacher who is in a childs life that has an ASD should have this book.

Book Description

Ellen Notbohm's first book, Ten Things Every Child with Autism Wishes You Knew, was a shot heard throughout the worldwide autism community, branded by readers as "required reading for all social service workers, teachers and relatives of children with autism." Now, for the teacher in all of us comes Ten Things Your Student with Autism Wishes You Knew. The unique perspective of a child's voice is back to help us understand the thinking patterns that guide their actions, shape an environment conducive to their learning style, and communicate with them in meaningful ways. Ten Things Your Student with Autism Wishes You Knew affirms that autism imposes no inherent upper limits on achievement, that both teacher and child "can do it." It's the game plan every educator, parent, or family member needs to make the most of every "teaching moment" in the life of these children we love.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars great easy read!.......2007-09-20

I thought this book was pretty good. Not as good as "ten things your child with autism . . . " by the same author. But it was still good. It's an easy read and it does a decent job explaining what autism is from the perspective of the child.

5 out of 5 stars Jerri thoughts.......2007-08-09

I had read the 3 page 10 things a child with autism wished you knew online a while back. My mom enjoyed it so much I thought I would like to read the book which the 3 pages online sumed up. The book went more indepth on each of the 10 things online. I have not sent the book to mom to read yet but plan to. For a person who is learning about autism and how it effects the person with autism this is a good book to start with. I also bought the book 10 things a student with autism wished you knew.

5 out of 5 stars Ten Things to help your childs teacher understand Autism.......2007-05-29

I bought this book along with, Ten Things Your Child With Autism Wishes You Knew, and they have been two of the most valuable books that I have purchased. Inside these pages I found the key to understanding my child better. I found them so informative that I even bought copies for my child's teacher to keep.

5 out of 5 stars Thank You For a Fresh Approach!.......2007-04-10

As a parent of profoundly autistic twin boys, I found this book extremely informative and POSITIVE (a rarity in books dealing with autism). Since my little guys just started kindergarten this year, I bought one for myself and another for their school. Highly recommended!!!

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable book.......2007-03-19

This is the best book I have ever read on the topic and believe me I have read hundreds!! I am currently reading this book with my therapy team and paraprofessionals in my classroom as a book club on a weekly basis to give us a new perspective. Definite read for anyone working in this field and for parents too! Wish some of my parents would read it so they would understand that we are all on the same team.

    Book Description

The Venetian courtesan has long captured the imagination as a female symbol of sexual license, elegance, beauty, and unruliness. What then to make of the cortigiana onesta—the honest courtesan who recast virtue as intellectual integrity and offered wit and refinement in return for patronage and a place in public life? Veronica Franco (1546-1591) was such a woman, a writer and citizen of Venice, whose published poems and familiar letters offer rich testimony to the complexity of the honest courtesan's position.

Margaret F. Rosenthal draws a compelling portrait of Veronica Franco in her cultural social, and economic world. Rosenthal reveals in Franco's writing a passionate support of defenseless women, strong convictions about inequality, and, in the eroticized language of her epistolary verses, the seductive political nature of all poetic contests. It is Veronica Franco's insight into the power conflicts between men and women—and her awareness of the threat she posed to her male contemporaries—that makes her literary works and her dealings with Venetian intellectuals so pertinent today.

Combining the resources of biography, history, literary theory, and cultural criticism, this sophisticated interdisciplinary work presents an eloquent and often moving account of one woman's life as an act of self-creation and as a complex response to social forces and cultural conditions.

"A book . . . pleasurably redolent of Venice in the 16th-century. Rosenthal gives a vivid sense of a world of salons and coteries, of intricate networks of family and patronage, and of literary exchanges both intellectual and erotic."—Helen Hackett, Times Higher Education Supplement

The Honest Courtesan is the basis for the film Dangerous Beauty (1998) directed by Marshall Herskovitz. (The film was re-titled The Honest Courtesan for release in the UK and Europe in 1999.)

    Customer Reviews:

    3 out of 5 stars disappointed.......2007-05-16

I was hoping to find out about the remarkable life of Veronica Franco but instead was pummeled with quotes, references, repetition, and a string of Italian phrases. There's no doubt that this book is Rosenthal's dissertation. Hopefully one day it will be edited and condensed to 1/5 of its size.

    1 out of 5 stars Unequivically biased.......2005-11-27

Unfortunately I bought this book hoping that it would uncover more historical data and the actual works of Veronica Franco translated by a scholar in the field.
    That was not the case.
The author used her college dissertation to make a book on a very important aspect of history when her dissertation would have been best served if it stayed at her college.
The author takes liberty to interpret Ms. Franco's works and for the reader it is a logistical nightmare. She first gives her statement as if fact at times which makes the facts (Veronica's actual works) seem secondary. Then she would have the Italian verse, followed by a translation.
Wow! do I feel very side tracked here.
I wouldn't even accept this for a dissertation!
Sorry, it doesn't work out in terms of literary flow, factual data or interesting storyline.

    3 out of 5 stars A difficult tome.......2005-07-11

After seeing "Dangerous Beauty" I became curious about the distinctive life style of Renaissance Venice, and hoped to learn a lot more. This book was just a bit too dry and scholarly for casual reading. A great deal of space is used for both the Italian and English translations, which must be interesting to some readers. Although Veronica comes across as intelligent, determined and brave, I would have wished to know more about her and her society in terms of food, clothing, houses, daily activities, etc. Perhaps not enough is known about Veronica herself, but I would hope that a gifted author somewhere could make her story into a novel and breathe some warmth and life into her legend.

    3 out of 5 stars 5 star history; 2 star read.......2004-07-22

This book is a must read if you're interested in 16th century Venice, Veronica Franco, or the world of the famous Venetian courtesans. It's also an EXTREMELY dry read. The book is quite obviously a doctoral dissertation, and could have used an edit to made it more accessible (something more along the lines of Stephen Ozment's books). I'm glad I read it. I tracked it down because I wanted to see just how accurate the movie Dangerous Beauty--which is LOOSELY based on this book--was. The answer is: Not very. Oh well. For those of a scholarly bent, this is a great resource book, for those looking for a light, romantic read (a la the movie) look elsewhere.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent, but a little slow.......2003-01-16

I greatly enjoyed this book, but I found that wading through 16th century Venetian dialect was difficult. If you are looking for an entertaining story biography, look elsewhere, but if you want a dissertation-style biography, you will enjoy this, as I did.

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars ACT for Dummies.......2007-06-11

This book was very informative and easy to understand.
I liked that it gave a practice ACT test.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome reviews on things you'd forgotten along with great tips.......2006-07-21

I bought this book along with The Real ACT Prep Guide and have found this book to be much more useful. I already understood the basics of the test, but I was looking for something to refresh me on all those little rules I'd forgotten in school. This book did just that. It is a great reviewer, especially in the English and Math sections.

I found this book very easy to follow along with. It is divided into sections for each subject test. In each section you will find basic rules and simple explanations for things that are commonly on the test. The math portion really brushed me up on things I'd forgotten in geometry and algebra. Even if you're having trouble understanding you math teacher, this book will teach you what you need to know very easily. With each new thing you learn in the book, it gives you a sample question that uses your new information. Then you get questions at the end of each section that test what you've learned.

I also found the tips to be very helpful, such as one that said the ACT never asked any questions about spelling. It's helpful to know that when you're taking the test, and it was one less thing I worried about on the English test.

The practice test in this book wasn't as close to the real test as it could have been. A few of the questions were a lot easier or harder than you'd find on the real test, but overall they were close to the real thing. I suggest picking up a practice test with your registration packet for a more realistic test.

In conclusion, this book is great if you want to brush up on your skills over a period of time, or if you want to cram the night before the test. I found it very helpful and littered with great test taking tips.

I know this isn't an accurate measurement, but after reading about half the book (and having an additional year of school), my score went from a 22 to a 26, and then to a 29. Some of that has to be due to this book.

5 out of 5 stars It got me into college.......2003-05-15

The ACT for Dummies is a great ACT study guide. The Math section totally refreshed me and was very valuable when it came to test time. But what really made the ACT for Dummies book so good was that it was full of really cheesy humor. This humor helped keep me reading a book that would otherwise be extremely dull and positively unbearable. I wouldn't be at the University of Michigan without the ACT for Dummies!

Hey also check out The 5 Minute Iliad, after finishing the ACT book

      2 out of 5 stars Errors.......2003-02-05

It's fun to read and it's a good prep. Unfortunately, the practice tests contain several errors. So far, I have only taken the english and the math sections of the first test, and I have found three errors. (And this is only on the first two of eight practice sections!) I have the 3rd Edition and these problems might be different in other editions. Feel free to dispute me.

(Asterisks represent underlined portion in question.)
      English, problem 19, test 1:
Born in 1921 in Ithaca, New York, Alex spent his early years with his grandmother in henning, *Tennessee*. The oldest of three sons in his family.

      19. A. NO CHANGE
      B. Tennessee - the oldest of
      C. Tennessee because he was the oldest of
      D. Tennessee. Alex was the oldest of

The explanation gives D as the correct answer. They must have forgotten to underline "The oldest of" in the sentence following Tennessee.

      Math, problem 18, test 1:
      18. Triangles I and II (not shown) are similar figures. The
angles of triangle I are in the ratio 1:2:3. If the
perimeter of triangle I is 15+5(SQRT)3, and the shortest side
of triangle II is 15, then what is the perimeter of triangle
      II?
      F. 150+20(SQRT)3
      G. 60+15(SQRT)3
      H. 60+5(SQRT)3
      J. 45+5(SQRT)3
      K. 45

After working the problem, I got the answer 45+15(SQRT)3. The explanation gives the same, but it's not an answer choice!

      Math, problem 28, test 1:
      28. Given that x is an integer, for what value of x is x+(2/3)x
      and x+4 <15?
      F. 8
      G. 9
      H. 10
      J. 11
      K. 12

I took this to mean, "For what value of x are both x+(2/3)x AND x+4 less than 15?" I thought that was a strange was of phrasing it and the explanation implies that the question should have asked, "For what value of x is x+(2/3)x>15 and x+4 <15?" It gave the answer H. It seems they left off the second half of the first inequality.

Sorry if this sounds like bashing, but these flaws really threw me off during my practice test. It entered my mind that the test could be wrong, but I did not think that assuming that the ACT people made a mistake was the smartest thing to do.

Also, I am under the impression that the practice tests in this book are not real ACT tests, meaning that they were made up for this book - not priorly administered tests.

      5 out of 5 stars extremely helpful.......2001-08-08

I bought this book with the intention of just reading the sections I had trouble with. I found it to be so helpful and easy to read, I ended up reading the entire book. I don't beleive I would have scored as high if I hadn't.

Veronica Vera is an artist, sex activist, and founder of the world's first cross-dressing academy, a truly fabulous institution that has been serving the unique educational needs of "boys who want to be girls" since 1992. Serving more than 100 students a year at her New York City campus, Miss Vera offers courses in makeup application, how to walk in high heels, etiquette for budding princesses, sex education, and, of course, getting frocked. More importantly, she teaches each member of her largely heterosexual male clientele to develop his inner femme and to "take the insights of his femmeself and integrate them into his male persona."

Miss Vera's Finishing School for Boys Who Want to Be Girls is an informative textbook for readers who want practical advice about all things femme (complete with illustrations and homework assignments). It includes an anecdotal "herstory" of Miss Vera's experiences as a pleasure activist and gender educator and a delightful document of the transformation of the academy's students as they prance toward "gender euphoria" in high heels and glimmering tiaras. This is an indispensable guide for emerging femmes of all ages, sexes, and sexual orientations, as well as an insightful, humorous, and sassy work sure to interest all devotees of gender studies. --Julia Steinmetz

      Book Description

It is estimated that three to five percent of the adult male population of the United States feels the need, at least occasionally, to dress in women's clothing. Judging from enrollment at her academy, Miss Vera would say that figure is low.

Veronica Vera founded Miss Vera's Finishing School for Boys Who Want to Be Girls in 1992 and started a gender revolution. Working from the pink palace of the Academy's intimate Manhattan campus, she has helped hundreds of students embrace and master Venus Envy through her expert instruction in the arts of dressing up, making up, going out, and acting like a lady. In her new book, she shares her priceless wisdom with the world.

With sparkling wit and dazzling insight, Miss V gives us the 411 on body hair, foundation garments, make-up, and dressing, as well as offering invaluable advice on Creating a Herstory (finding the real life story of the femmeself within) speech, manners, walking in high heels, and--that biggest step of all--going out in the real world all dressed up. Amply illustrated and filled with the real stories of students and graduates, Miss Vera's Finishing School also offers a fascinating history of how the Academy came to be, as well as Miss Vera's own incisive gender manifesto.

"As we step boldly toward the new millennium, many more of us will be doing it in high heels," says Veronica Vera. In Miss Vera's Finishing School for Boys Who Want to Be Girls, she proves conclusively that, after a long day in wingtips, there's nothing like slipping into a pair of spiked heels.

      5 out of 5 stars Essential guide/information for CD's and their SO's.......2007-08-23

Highly recommended...informative and amusing, but sensitive to the particular issues/questions of the TV or CD and their partners and families...

3 out of 5 stars Fun read, but don't expect to learn anything........2007-06-21

It is fun to read, it is interesting. But as far as explaining anything about how to dress femme, you won't learn from it.
When I first picked up the book at a glbt store, I was excited and could not wait to read it. About 1/2 way thru the book, I felt stupid for having paid $15 for it.
I give it 3 stars cause like I said - it was entertaining. BUT, at the time, I was looking to learn to dress, not be entertained by some advertisement for a school that one weekend costs more than I make in a month. This book is like the movie dumb and dumber, it is entertaining, but really stupid otherwise.

5 out of 5 stars Fun and Philosophical.......2006-01-08

"For every woman who has burned her bra, there's a man ready to wear one. Or so says Veronica Vera, who founded Miss Vera's Finishing School for Boys Who Want to Be Girls in 1992 as a resource for that part of the adult male population that feels the need to dress in women's clothing. This book unveils the naked truth about cross-dressing in a fun and philosophical way for would-be girls--and real girls, too! 35 photos."--© zebraz

      5 out of 5 stars A Must Read.......2006-01-04

First, know that I am all man, and I personally have no interest in learning how to cross dress. However, I found this book at my friend's house one night when I could not sleep, and being an attorney, I have to read. Let me tell you, this is a book I could not put down. If you want to understand not just the "why" but the "how to" of cross dressing, this is the book for you. It should be considered a must read for any transgender, transsexual, multigender, gendersexual, or transmultisexual. My only criticism is that it should have more tips. I want to sell the look on a bidet if I have the chance. Or my friend does, I mean.

Second, look at the cover. Am I the only one who thinks the tall one is hot? I mean, seriously, that's a chick, right?

4 out of 5 stars Great Entertainment Value.......2005-02-20

A cheerful look at the world of the closeted cross-dresser, this book describes Veronica Vera's approach to offering cross-dressing services to men who have sufficient funds to be able to travel to her New York "Academy" for "lessons" of one sort or another.

Illustrated profusely with photos of students and staff, there are chapters covering everything from attitude, through body shaping and deportment, to finishing touches such as makeup, etiquette and outings. You can follow the adventures of students like Sally Sissyribbons as Ms Vera covers "studies" such as Home Ec, Fashion, Field Trips and Sex Education.

Yet, despite the sprightly, titillating approach to cross-dressing there are some very useful tips and tricks sprinkled throughout. More, Veronica Vera's philosophy and some very timely words of wisdom can be found, strategically placed for the most effect. For example, while covering the subject of what is referred to as "passing," she says, "You can sell what you believe in, so believe in your right to be your femmeself and you will be empowered in all aspects of your life."

Although the book provides the reader with lighthearted, humourous entertainment, if that is what you are after, I would not recommend it to the person who is seriously looking for advice or support on transgender issues.

From the wife of the late Dr. Robert Atkins, here is an inventive cookbook that will allow low carb devotees to keep the faith without cutting down the fat. Grounded in the carb counting, fat allowing formula that launched millions of dieters, Veronica Atkins has designed a book "to make doing Atkins a permanent part of your life."

Following a refresher course on the four phases of Atkins, she includes 250 easy to follow recipes and cooking tips geared for people close to their weight goals, in which she underlines the essentials of low carb ingredients and preparation (substitute wheat for white, splenda for sugar, nuts for breadcrumbs, cream or broth for flour). Gathered into three main sections ("day by day", "on the weekend", and "party and holiday menus"), recipes range from family dinners, brownbag lunches and snacks to brunch dishes and camping treats. Singles "tired of dividing recipes by four" will also enjoy the "cooking for one" section, and those who fear the holiday temptations will find inspiration to stay on track in such creative fares as Atkins-friendly Thanksgiving side dishes, low carb Xmas eggnog, Zucchini Hanukkah latkes, Superbowl pomegranate guacamole, Oscar Night chocolate martinis and a dozen uses for leftover matzo.

Readers may be distracted from the simplicity and freshness of the recipes by a few zany suggestions (alphabetizing spices to save time) and the marketing of the Atkins brand products in the many recipes that use Atkins mixes, pastas and flavorings. Yet the book's creative approach will assure the faithful that a low carb diet can be a moveable feast. --Barbara Mackoff

3 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Source for a Beneficial Lifestyle .......2007-09-24

It's too bad and unfortunate that Dr. Atkins has passed. With his widow compiling and publishing this cookbook, it keeps his memory and his beneficial lifestyle alive. The book is informative, easy to read and easy to navigate.

2 out of 5 stars Very limited application.......2006-06-19

Granted - even in the introduction (which I instruct any reader to read thoroughly), Veronica Atkins mentions that this cookbook is intended mostly for those at 'maintenance' level, where only 'healthy' eating (rather than weight loss) is the goal. Were someone not seeking to lose weight, or at any rate no substantial amount, the main dish recipes could be useful - they could find that they no longer needed snacks and the like because they had sufficient protein not to be ravenous. But most of the recipes are useless for low carb dieters who either actually want to lose weight or do not want to regain weight they have lost on the Atkins programme.

A few main dish recipes and side dishes are valuable, but most of the items in this cookbook are of little value. I doubt too many people are worried about relatively low carb Halloween drinks, for example. There are other dishes which anyone wishing to lose weight on a low carb programme would never touch, such as pasta.

I found it rather annoying. Robert Atkins was a true pioneer in the nutritional field, and now the very approach which many dieters found to be a godsend is being sacrificed for this new 'healthy nutritional approach not aimed at weight loss.' The recipes too often are a blatant advertisement for Atkins products - none of which are necessary to following the diet at all. I imagine this book was intended to attract a new market, or to satisfy those who want to think that Atkins dieters are increasing their intake of grains, but I found it largely useless.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointing offering from a usually trusted source.......2005-04-25

Don't get me wrong: I love Atkins and I'm a low carber myself. But I don't know what they were thinking when they put this cookbook together. Oh wait, I do know: they were thinking that total carb count is all that matters. Anyone who really understands low carb knows that it isn't just the total number of carbs you consume: where those carbs come from matters at least as much. So I was surprised to see recipes in this book calling for ingredients most low carbers wouldn't dream of touching on a regular basis. There also seemed to be an over-reliance on Atkins products, and overall, it looked too much like someone took a regular cookbook and just substituted artificial sweeteners for sugar and Atkins bake mix for flour and thought the recipes would fly. Not only did I make the decision not to buy this book, I didn't even like it enough to check it out of the library after reading through it. I hope the next Atkins book is closer to the mark.

5 out of 5 stars Every Recipe is a Winner!.......2005-01-13

I received this cookbook for Christmas 2004 and have already made a half dozen or so recipes - every single one was thoroughly enjoyed by my non-low carbing husband! I figure that Veronica Atkins has been eating low carb longer than just about anyone - she has a lot of great recipes to share! If you want to make low carb living your way of life, you will want to have this cookbook on your shelf.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Practical.......2004-11-05

You don't have to be on the Atkins Diet to use and enjoy this book. This low-carb cookbook offers over 250 recipes designed to let you indulge in gourmet type dining, with minimal carbs. The book is a compilation of popular low-carb recipes from the Akins Center, and is written by the wife of the late Dr. Robert Atkins. It is printed on glossy paper, which is great for use in a kitchen environment, and many of the recipes are complemented by full-page color photos of recipe presentations. It's a beautiful book, that you can also use as a coffee table book, but its practical recipes makes it more than just decoration.

The book includes 100s of tips for low-carb dieting, and each recipe includes detailed nutritional statistics. The recipes are divided into sections for 30-minute meals, tight budgets, bag lunches, snack, and desserts. About half of the book is dedicated to recipes for specific holidays and seasons. I highly recommend this book.

      Book Description

Alison and Veronica meet amid the nocturnal glamour of 1980s New York: One is a young model stumbling away from the wreck of her career, the other an eccentric middle-aged office temp. Over the next twenty years their friendship will encompass narcissism and tenderness, exploitation and self-sacrifice, love and mortality. Moving seamlessly from present and past, casting a fierce yet compassionate eye on two eras and their fixations, the result is a work of timeless depth and moral power.

1 out of 5 stars So awful I wanted to cry........2007-08-20

I cannot believe people feel this book's strength is in the writing. That must speak loads about the plot because this is some of the very worst writing I have ever seen in a book that is supposedly above preschool level. I don't mean grammar, I mean style. As someone else already said, it was like reading someone's laundry list. I have read high school essays with more style and feeling. It was seriously god awful. I'm not even going to get into the plot of it, because I don't want to sit here all night writing my review of this drivel. I guess anyone can get published nowadays.

Also, Gaitskill clearly copied her writing style from one of my all time favorite books when I was about three, which is "I am a Puppy". Here's a passage from that book to illustrate: "I am a puppy. My name is Bruno. I am a Beagle. I like to play outside. Sometimes I meet bigger dogs, but they turn out to be friendly. I like to play in the mud, but when I get dirty I have to take a bath. I hate baths." The writing styles are so alike that it could almost be the same book.

1 out of 5 stars Not Worth The Time.......2007-07-25

Like another reviewer, I too read this for a book club and all of us agreed this book was flawed and a chore to get through. The characters never jumped off the page, least of all the namesake of the book. The author jumped around so much I found myself not caring what decade I was in. The only reason I finished this book at all was out of loyalty to the book club, and after we discussed it we all threw our copies away.

1 out of 5 stars Tedious and Overwritten.......2007-04-16

I found this book exhausting. First, Gatskill jumps around in time incessantly. She'll place the character in three different places in time in the space of a paragraph. No warning, no transitions. It's difficult to know where you are at any one point. More importantly, though, is that Gatskill completely assaults the reader with in-depth analysis and details. She overuses words (must have used the word "flesh" at least 20 times in the first half of the book alone), and wastes her gift for description. She gives you so much that you become hardened to its power. It no longer provides insight into the story, it just comes off as self-indulgent and tedious. It's like eating an entire cake. One or two bites could be sublime and satisfying. Consuming the whole thing just makes you sick. I do not recommend this book.

4 out of 5 stars A New Twist on the Theme of Resurrection.......2007-03-08

Mary Gaitskill proves to be masterful in her placement of words and the creation of images. Often while reading the book, I would have to pause to take in the beauty of the image she was presenting or to suck in my breath at the sadness of what I was reading.

She gives us a new twist on the theme of resurrection where instead of god-like or angelic intervention, two lost souls save each other and learn the cleansing effects of love. Mary Gaitskills shows us the beauty in breakdown and ugliness. The last sentence sums up the secret to a "good" life.

      1 out of 5 stars Veronica.......2007-02-27

This book was chosen for a book club read and I was so excited to begin it. I finished this book and felt compelled to give my opinion on it as it was chosen for the opinions of others, and maybe someone else will not make the mistake because of this opinion. Firstly, I don't know why this book was called "Veronica", because other than a few mentions of her name, you don't meet the character until more than half way through the book. And I did not take anything of significance from her character when she did appear. I could not find anything of significance in this book at all from any character. I still am wondering why the author felt the need to write this book, or better yet the publisher felt the need to publish it. A good story makes us want to be a character in that story, it transports us to that time and place and we are saddened when we have to leave. This book does not tell a story, it is words put together made to resemble a story, but comes far short of the goal. The characters are not characters that you love, but you can't hate them, you just can't feel anything for them. I wish I could at least say this book was well written, but I can't even compliment the writing style because it jumps from time period to time period in a single paragraph, you never know where you are.
For anyone who still desires to read this book, by all means do, but check it out from your local library before wasting good money on a bad book
