HOT!!!!!!!!.......2007-07-23
This book was hot, hot, hot! I loved the 3 brothers although I have to say there's a special place in my heart for Karen and Mike. That was the best of the 3 stories. They were all great.... Can hardly wait for Tony's story.
three well written second chances at love .......2007-04-01
"Stripping It Down". Kit Laughlin writes a column on sex on the Internet though she has not had a decent tumble in her mind in centuries. Now the last hunk to make her orgasm Jake Donovan wants back in her life, but though she still loves the rat she does not trust the man who hurt her.
"A Taste of Sin". With her beloved dad ailing, Dr. Kelly Sullivan returns home to be with him. Her high school boyfriend Nick Donovan wants to be with her as he never forgot the taste of his sweetheart.
"Kiss Me twice". When former sweethearts Mike Donovan and Karen Sullivan see one another, both realize their attraction remains strong; perhaps even more so this second time around. However, will they give it a second try since they cannot keep their hands off one another?
These three well written second chances at love Donovan brothers' novellas are hot, hotter, and hottest, but also contain fascinating relationships between the fully developed couples as the females distrust the men they love who hurt them in the past. Jami Alden provides a fine collection.

Book Description
A season has passed in Carson Springs since Stranger in Paradise. And with a baby on the way, Samantha Kiley and Ian Carpenter will soon be loving parents. But in Taste of Honey it is Sam's best friend Gerry whose head and heart are put to the test when she is forced to face the secret she has kept for almost thirty years.
Everyone knows that feisty, sensual Gerry Fitzgerald wasn't always so outspoken. As a young, impressionable novitiate, Gerry became pregnant. She fled the altar just as she was about to take her vows to become a nun and never breathed a word about why. Twenty-eight years later the child she gave up for adoption has come back into her life, a grown woman looking for answers. For Gerry, the question is how to defuse the years of guilt, shame, and bitterness that divide her from her daughter, how to create and nurture a bond as fragile as a cobweb. As Gerry opens the emotional floodgates she also unexpectedly finds that her feelings for her lover, symphony conductor Aubrey Roellinger, grow more complex and consuming. No longer only a series of satisfying trysts with manageable emotional boundaries, their relationship has begun to crack open both their cautious hearts.
Compulsively readable, Taste of Honey brings fans back to the idyllic California valley with characters who take on new dimensions as their secrets emerge and their lives and loves progress. Irresistible and romantic, Eileen Goudge's latest Carson Springs novel is not to be missed.
Customer Reviews:
Won't read this author again.......2006-10-05
I picked up the taped version of the book to listen to on the way to work and back. I find the plot silly, and the characters too cardboard. I am offended by the language around adoption, which hasn't been used in over 20 years ("gave the baby away"). I also find the writing cliched and uninteresting. There is nothing new fresh and here. Don't bother.
Good follow up to "Stranger in Paradise".......2005-10-24
This is the second book in the Carson Springs trilogy. Former fallen nun and now divorced, Gerry Fitzgerald suddenly has a desire to find the daughter that she gave away 28 years earlier now that her friend Sam is with child. She has continued to work at the convent in the beekeeping operation (hence the title), and is having an affair with the local celebrity conductor, Aubrey.
Claire Brewster knows that she was adopted, but did not want to disappoint her adoptive parents by looking into her adoption, until a call from Gerry changes her life. Claire has always done what is expected of her, including going to law school, despite not having a desire to practice the law. Her childhood sweetheart is her fiancé, though they have never gotten around to setting a date.
She meets Gerry and her half siblings, then returns to the SF Bay Area, but continues to think about the town of Carson Springs. A few months later, Claire decides to relocate for a little while to get to know them and pursue her passion - opening a tea shop. When she purchases a fixer upper, and gets closer and closer to her handyman, her relationship with her fiancé takes a back burner. And she forages a friendship with her birth mother.
Despite a couple of continuity flaws that should have been caught in the editing process, (Alice is mentioned as Sam's oldest daughter in one paragraph, then a few pages later, she is the youngest; Ian is listed as being 15 years Sam's junior - Sam is 48 and Ian is 31), it stands alone as a pretty good story. There were a few too many plots going on all at once though - and a few too many characters that did not bring anything to the storyline.
The Pain of Adoption is Obvious In This Story.......2003-09-22
With carson Springs still reeling from Samantha Kiley's romance with a younger man, her best friend, Gerry Fitzgerald, fires up the town with another sensational scandal. The child Gerry put up for adoption twenty-eight years ago-and kept a painful secret from her family, has come back into her life. But not without a lot of bitterness attached.
Claire Brewster is a successful attorney engaged to her childhood sweetheart. She hurt her parents feelings when she chose to find her biological mother and family, most of whom do not welcome Claire into their fold.
A bittersweet tale, and I enjoyed this book. As you read, you could feel the pain of rejection and all the hurt it brings to a child who is rejected by their natural family.
Pretty Damn Good.......2003-08-26
This was the first book I have ever read from this author and I was pleasantly surprised how much I loved it. I generally have a few authors I read on a consistant basis and I generally do not stray from them, but I picked this one up out of the blue one day and I am happy for it. It is well worth the money and time to read this book. I am now searching for the other books in this series.. Thank you Eileen....
I Love Carson Springs.......2002-12-14
Eileen Goudge has captured me with this trilogy. Carson Springs is a place that I would want to live. In this second installment, the story focuses on Gerry Fitzgerald and her family. It is a wonderful story of a mother meeting her daughter that was given up for adoption, the struggle to help her children understand, and of a woman wrestling with the idea of falling in love again. The characters from the first book are all present. The story picks up right where Stranger in Paradise left off. I can't wait for the third book.
Book Description
In this remarkable follow-up to Stranger in Paradise, Eileen Goudge returns to sun-drenched Carson Springs, an idyllic community where the only thing juicier than the oranges is the local gossip...

Disappointing.......2007-07-19
I listened to this unabridged book on tape in the car. I had never read or heard this author before, and I'm not sure if it was partly the reader's voice (blah) but the characters seemed one-dimensional to me. There was a lot of action, but not much insight as to what the characters were thinking or why they did what they did, or frankly, why I should care. Some graphically described sex scenes thrown in (not well-written or interesting either) which juxtaposed with the rest of the book and its theme. None of the characters were really likable or interesting, in my opinion, either. Just when I was starting to get into a character, two more were added, until there were too many to keep track of or want to. Perhaps it would have been better experienced reading and not on tape. I hope so!
Strong language, be warned.......2003-06-04
Gerry Fitzgerald is moved to revisit her past when her best friend, Samantha Kiley becomes pregnant. Suddenly, she needs to find the child she gave up for adoption thirty years ago, when she was a postulant nun and could not keep the child. This has been a haunting secret from her family, and learning it shocks and angers her two nearly grown children, each of whom are dealing with their own painful situations. Gerry's firstborn is not all that thrilled with meeting her either, but does so anyway, defying her own family.
The road ahead of each player in this excellent drama is rocky, to say the least. Matters of the heart, both romantic and otherwise plauge them as the newly found families learn to love one another and deal with romances. New love and new life await, but so do pain and danger.
**** Not classified an inspirational romance, this novel still has profoundness that will appeal to the Christian audience, despite occassionally strong language and sexual tensions. However, like Andrew Greeley or Nelson DeMille, Ms. Goudge has succsessfully realized in her writing that Christians do not live in a whitewashed world and have flaws and issues just the same as secular people. ****

A Very British Play.......2003-07-18
I found this play to be both fascinating and not the least boring. As said before, perhaps it is too British, but that is what the play is about; trying to find a moment of happiness in a post-war society that saps the very life out of you and stops you from ever bettering yourself. The storyline may seem "simplistic" at first, but the richness of dialogue and its subtlety make for interesting reading and thought.
If you have a pre-occupation with our drab and dreary little island then I would hartly reccommend this play, as it is very true to what it sets out to be. However, if you're "lucky" enough to live in a warmer climate then maybe this play just won't be your cup of tea...
A play that changed the course of History.......2001-05-28
Throughout literary history, it has always been the most controversial or polemical works that stand out from the others, and take their place alongside other trailblazing novels. This being the case, it is certainly very clear why `A Taste Of Honey' has come to be regarded as one of the most important works of the 20th century. In its time a revolutionary play, this piece has managed to live up to its reputation, even over the many years since its was first published. The reason this famed play became so successful in the first place was precisely because it touched upon so many tender issues that had been strict taboos until it was written. First being published in 1959, `A Taste Of Honey' was released at a time when the world was just starting to get back to normal after the second world war. In an era of turmoil and uncertainty, the issues depicted in the play were precisely the ones that dominated lower class Britain, but, ironically, they were not the ones that were shown by the media, for they were considered to be too lowly to be worthy of depiction. Shelagh Delaney's piece, however, changed this quite drastically for all of a sudden the very issues which the upper class public was trying to avoid, were shoved into their faces. Right from the start of the play, the author makes it quite clear that this will be no ordinary play; touching on such a wide variety of issues ranging from poverty to abortion and prostitution, `A Taste Of Honey' shocked viewers around the world for, for the first time, a play was showing the true realities that ordinary people coexisted with. Although stunned at first, audiences soon started appreciating the play for they began to identify themselves with different characters in it, and therefore started to relate to it, which increased there liking of the piece, making it a success. In a world were the rich dominated, poverty was shown as an acceptable status; In a society were values were highly held, a prostitute was the main character; In a community where families meant everything, a mother abandoned her daughter to go live with her new husband; In an ambience were medicine was still an almost unexplored field, abortion was mentioned; And in a place where a classic, suburban family was considered the only reality which could exist, `A Taste of Honey' was written.

Confusing Story that never gets going.......2001-05-19
Having read and studied this book at school. i can say that i did not like this book. some aspects are totally unclear, for example Geof's dubiuos sexuality. The open ending leaves the reader feeling disatisfied, and annoyed, it left me thinking, is that it? i don't recommend reading the book. The storyline is basic, and the most irratating feature of the book is the arguementative relationship between Helen and Jo. The best bit though is definetely the relationship between Jo and Geof
Very British, Perhaps Too Angry.......2001-04-16
The problem I had with this book was that the characters were depressing. Helen, the mother seemed very unloving to her daughter Jo. The only thing that they really did was argue. Peter who marries Helen is even more repulsive in this story. And what is it with the story of the daughter imitating her mother's life by getting pregnant, despite her life situation. It seems that the arguments between the mother and daughter play for the most irritating part of the story. Only parts where Jo is having her first love affair with a black sailor, and the friendship she has with Geof made this story seem not as angry as it would really seem. In all, the story is all banter. If you can handle a lot of arguing, this play might be readable for you.
Book Description
It's almost unbelievable how much honey has been a part of our history. Edible honey was found in King Tut's tomb. Honey's anti-bacterial property makes it useful in preventing infections. Honey is predigested, making it healthier than other types of sugars. Local honey minimizes attacks of hay fever and allergies. The list goes on, and is covered in this wonderful new edition that focuses on the healthy aspect of honey and bee products (bee pollen, royal jelly, beeswax, and more). All the wit and wisdom of Lonik's Nature and Cooking series, plus over 200 award-winning recipes.

Favorite Old Cookbook.......2006-07-06
My sainted mother owned a copy of this book, which she purchased in Old Sacramento, a touristy shopping area in Sacramento. She bought it mainly for the fascinating chestnuts of Sacramento area history, of which the book is chocked full. As the years wandered on, however, I discovered that it was a treasure trove of marvelous recipes from old and prominent Sacramento households, as well as from some of the local restaurateurs of the era. I was sad when the old copy finally fell to pieces, and was thrilled to find a perfect copy to replace it with!
All of that said, the Editorial Reviews for this book, relate to an entirely different publication. This book makes no reference to the historical significance of honey. It does, however, sate your appetite for Sacramento anecdotes!

Really informative and fun!.......2007-05-16
I bought this book used, and we've used it harder! My son loves it with a passion. He's always been a big fan of honey and very curious, so finding a book that explains how it's made was a natural thing for us. The pictures are adorable--they really enhance the story.
Best book for Kindergarten.......2002-04-15
As a teacher who yearly goes to the library to get books about insects, specifically bees, this is the best book ever on the subject! (The bee is our school mascot.) For two reasons:
It takes a complicated subject, how honey is produced, and makes it simple enough for 5 year olds to understand; and the handcut collage artwork is something five year olds can handle in an art unit on collage. More, please, Ms. Wallace!
A delightful and entertaining picturebook story.......2001-06-09
In A Taste Of Honey, Lily Bear asks her father a great many questions and in doing so a jar of honey is traced back to Mike's Market, the honey farm, the beekeeper, the honeycomb, and ultimately to the bees themselves! Author and illustrator Nancy Wallace uses brightly colored diagrams and sidebars in this delightful and entertaining picturebook story for youngsters 4 to 8 showing all the steps of making honey from beehive to dining table in clear, simple, and engaging detail.

Book Description
Ohio was hardly ready for its prized Piqua Peach Queen to come bopping out of the closet, so in her early 20s Macy Delongchamp moved to Greenwich Village and started her own successful travel agency. But Macy is now in her early 40s (or late 30s, depending on whom she's talking to) and finds herself adrift in her own seemingly charmed life. First, there are the nightmares, then the nagging cough, and finally, after yet another night of tequila swigging, she trips down a flight of stairs and finds herself hobbling the streets of Manhattan with the aid of a cane fashioned from a petrified bull penis. That actually comes in handy, though, because there is nothing like a petrified bull penis to beat off a mugger, which is how she ends up using it when she comes to the aid of young, badly dressed belle on roller skates named Sarah--and falls in love with her. But is Macy ready to embrace the kind of life she has spent years avoiding and making fun of? Before she has time to find out, the death of her father, "Wild" Bill Delongchamp, pulls her back to Ohio, where the events and people of her past run headlong into the new Macy of good times, uncommitted relationships, and globe-trotting adventures. In bawdy, hilarious style we follow Macy through one self-induced misadventure after another on her path to realizing that she has been running from herself and home has always been waiting.
Michelle Sawyer was born and continues to live in Jackson, Mich. This is her first novel.

M.E. Martin is a sourgrapes sourpuss.......2007-02-02
Just read all her lesbian romance reviews and you will see she has an obsession with sabotaging authors. And it is never nice to recommend buying books second-hand.
Didn't taste that good.......2006-02-20
I just couldn't get in to this book. The attempts at humor were ok but there never seem to be a real story that developed. Not one I would keep in my collection.
Much gratitude to readers!.......2005-06-15
I gave this four stars because, well, I wrote it and don't want to seem like a complete jerk (or someone self-loathing enough to give it a 1), and I had to choose SOME rating.
I'm writing this to thank every reader who has taken the time to put their thoughts down and send them to Amazon. Writers read these things, at least I do, and what you say really matters. Especially when it's good.
(...)
Best,
Michelle Sawyer
Great First Book!.......2005-06-13
This was a very good story. I only gave it four stars instead of five because I thought the book ended a little too abruptly...ie..characters get back together in a couple pages, the end. I wanted to see a bit more making up and what happened down the road. Maybe there will be a sequel...we can only hope.
I did find the age difference between the characters interesting in that the younger of the two really was the more mature. I was not put off by some swearing that another reviewer mentioned. It seemed to be going on mostly inside the character's mind which cracked me up...I can so identify. The author also made reference to a lot of pop culture type things which this 40-something reader found very amusing. I really hope to see another book by this author soon.
I got lost in this one..........2005-06-04
I bought this book several months ago and put it on my shelf where it was forgotten. Imagine my surprise when I finally pulled it down and started to read. The author presents Macy, a 40-something woman of the world who hasn't had a monogamous relationship in her life. She's successful and "happy" in her life. That holds true until she meets Faith, a gorgeous 20-something, during an attempted mugging. Through persistance and sincerity Faith breaks through Macy's nonchalant exterior and shows the woman what love really means.
I'm not generally into books where the lovers are separated by such a large age difference. In fact, if the characters are separated by more than 15 years I generally give up and put it down. However, Michelle Sawyer does such a good job with this story that I forgot there was more than a 20-year difference.
This is certainly a book I will read a few more times before passing it on for others to enjoy.
