Book Description

Let's be honest. No woman really wants to be alone for the rest of her life. But does being alone mean you're doomed to be miserable forever? Definitely not! And does being single have to equal lonely? No way! You can have the best time of your life when you're single, but you wouldn't know that from our relationship obsessed society, where celebrity magazines devote the majority of their content to who's dating whom and the wedding industry is a $100-billion business. Yet more than a third of marriages end in divorce, and countless other couples languish in unions that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Don't become a statistic—love yourself and never settle!

Jen Schefft knows that better than almost anyone. In 2003, she got engaged in front of millions of people on television's The Bachelor, only to see it end nine months later when the relationship just wasn't right anymore. A year later, she turned down an engagement on The Bachelorette, and the backlash was relentless. She was labeled a "spinster" by a celebrity magazine, and a noted national talk-show host remarked that she would be "a bachelorette for the rest of her life."

This is a terrible message to send to the millions of sensational single women out there, and in Better Single Than Sorry Schefft makes it her mission to let women know that it's better to be single than to be in a relationship that doesn't make you happy. With testimonials from women of all ages—single, married, in committed relationships, with children (even single moms) and without—this book tells you how to let go of your fear of being alone and how to love yourself and never settle for a relationship that is anything less than you deserve.

Written in a conversational style, as if talking with your best friend, Schefft helps you navigate the pressures of a culture that places an unhealthy importance on being in a relationship and shows you how to find happiness in work, home, and the simple pleasures of everyday life. Above all, she shows you how it's far, far better to be single than sorry. Being single is a time to have fun, learn new things, grow, and blossom—not a time to feel desperate or depressed, so cherish it!

2 out of 5 stars Flashback To The High School Girl's Bathroom.......2007-06-08

I got this as a gift. Reading it was like being zapped back to high school, in the girl's bathroom, where that one click of know-it-all girls were always busy gossiping and deciding how everyone else should behave and what was and wasn't cool. The basic message back then, as with this book, is you are either with us or against us. Conform to what we think women should be. Not a good message for girls or women and certainly won't help you with dating. If you want good advice that doesn't tell you how to be and will work, I suggest God Is a Woman: Dating Disasters and A Practical Handbook for the Boyfriend: For Every Guy Who Wants to Be One/For Every Girl Who Wants to Build One, which are both very good. I also heard The Manual: A True Bad Boy Explains How Men Think, Date, and Mate--and What Women Can Do to Come Out on Top is good and just picked up a copy of that.

4 out of 5 stars Good For Everyone.......2007-05-31

This book gives the reader something to hope for: the right guy WILL come along if you are patient and you stay true to yourself. This was an amusing read, mostly filled with quotes from other women who will validate for you that you are not alone in this. I'm glad I purchased this book.

5 out of 5 stars Great book for the single woman in her twenties.......2007-05-14

It seems like all the books I read about being single, are for middle age women or for single moms. It was nice to finaloly read a book that I could relate to, being in my twenties. Very cute and funny.

5 out of 5 stars REFRESHING!!!!.......2007-05-14

I read this book at Barnes and Noble on a study break and I will admit that I found it very refreshing!! Why? too many books about being single seem to focus on some aspect of trying to fetch a guy by improving your looks, by flirting better, by having fewer standards, by networking more, etc. While some of those principles are not always completely bad, they focus on life being better with having the ideal mate in your life (instead of learning how to manage or enjoy life). And then other times, they are outright anti-feminist with principles of encouraging submissiveness, a lack of communication and pretending to be something that you are not which is damaging to BOTH sexes, not just women.

This book I think gets it RIGHT. Jen Schefft talks about ENJOYING the single life, about NOT SETTLING, about not falling into the peer pressure when friends or parents want you to be with someone. I think that this is downright refreshing in contrast to other books on single life. More books should be like this! They should not encourage women to be any less than who they truly are, and changing something about yourself should be because YOU want to do it, not because you want to get someone's attention. This seems to have a slef help twist on a feminist perspective.

Other books that I think that people who might be interested in this book might benefit from are: The Meaning of Wife, Bachelor Girl, Feminine Mystique, A Room of Ones Own.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book.......2007-05-13

I think that every woman should read this book. I am in a relationship, but still found this book compelling. Her thoughts on how you should be treated and loving yourself are absolutely right!

Book Description

A ship's pilot legendary for guiding mammoth freighters through the narrows of Puget Sound, Rolf Neslund was a proud Norwegian, a ladies' man, and a beloved resident of Washington State's idyllic Lopez Island. Virtually indestructible even into his golden years, he made electrifying headlines more than once: after a ship he was helming crashed into the soaring West Seattle Bridge, causing millions in damages; and following his inexplicable disappearance at age 80. Was he a suicide, a man broken by one costly misstep? Had he run off with a lifelong love? Or did a trail of gruesome evidence lead to the home Rolf shared with his wife, Ruth? On an island where everyone thought they knew their neighbors, the veneer of the Neslunds' marriage masked a convoluted case that took many years to solve. And, indeed, some still believe that the old sea captain will come home one day. "The Sea Captain" is a classic tale as blood chilling as murder itself. Along with six other equally riveting, detailed accounts of destruction and murder committed without conscience or regret, Ann Rule takes readers into frightening places they never could have imagined in No Regrets.

5 out of 5 stars Another must read from Ann Rule!.......2007-09-29

If you are already a fan of Ann Rule, "No Regrets" will not disappoint! The book contains several stories of true crime written in Ann's typical style. It's hard to put down the book until you find out what really happened and "whodunit". I love how Ann digs deeply into the past lives of the people in the stories, and how she puts all the pieces together. It's like a literary puzzle which solves itself as you read on. I've been a huge fan of Ann Rule, former Seattle police woman-turned true crime author, for many years and I've already pre-ordered her next book from Amazon which is due out in November 2007.

The way she explains the event in details, the investigation steps to finally discover the crime, & the clues that solve the event keeps you on the end of your seat. THIS IS A MUST READ!!

5 out of 5 stars New author hits one out of the ballpark.......2007-05-29

A snappy, fast-paced story with sympathetic characters and a great romance story line in "No Regrets" mark this author's debut. I found this book very hard to put down and read it within 24 hours, then immediately wanted more. Noelle and David meet in a pressure-cooker situation fraught with lots of suspense and sexual tension. He's keeping her safe while she breaks a code. The baddies need the code and her, but, if they can get her, they will just need her alive long enough to use her great mathematical skills.

Unfortunately, Shannon K. Butcher's next release, "No Control", isn't due until 2008 when Caleb's story will be told.

As a Suzanne Brockmann fan, I found this book very satisfying.

4 out of 5 stars Promising and intelligent new series .......2007-04-24

I don't read romance, and freely admit that I decided to give this book a try because I enjoy the author's husband, Jim Butcher's work so much. He comes across as a very real and down-to-earth person in interviews and I have a bit of a thing about where my hard earned dollars go and who they support.
So I figured what the heck - it's the price of a paper back and if it is an excruciatingly awful first outing what have I really lost? I wasn't expecting much, and opened the book prepared to say "Ouch" as I tossed it toward the discard pile.

Let me scrape the egg off my face and offer an apology. This book is good. The premise is interesting, the plot moves at a good pace, and the characters are well crafted and easy to care about. It's hard to go wrong with smart, passionate, caring, sexy characters that continue to evolve and develop as the story moves forward.
I know a story has me snagged when I get so caught up that I forget I'm reading a book. I finally got tired of being yanked back to reality and turned the ringer off on my phone so I could finish this one in peace.

I'm looking forward to the next book and will be a return customer.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful read!.......2007-03-21

Cryptology is just a hobby for Dr. Noelle Blanchard until the day it turns her world upside down. She thinks the worst has passed when she's told to either accept a military grant or lose her beloved job. Noelle just can't work for the military; her scientist parents taught her at an early age to analyze the ramifications of research and hers is much too deadly in the wrong hands. Unfortunately the worst hasn't passed as she suddenly finds herself the target of a terrorist organization known as the Swarm with her very life in jeopardy. David Wolfe left the Delta Force after the torture and murder of his wife, thinking he'd destroyed Swarm. With the Swarm now back in action, David is the only one who can save Noelle. Will both be able to trust each other enough to survive?

What a thrill ride! Shannon K. Butcher grabs the reader by the throat from the very first sentence and never lets go until the exhilarating conclusion! NO REGRETS is a phenomenal romantic suspense story with the expert combination of action, romance, and adventure all packed together in this superb thrill ride. Quite frankly, this reviewer finds it hard to believe that this is the first published work by Ms. Butcher as NO REGRETS is without a doubt one of the top romantic suspense books published today! Boy, am I ever glad she decided to write this one although waiting till 2008 for Caleb's story is not going to be easy.

NO REGRETS is a very clever tale. Shannon K. Butcher has crafted an extremely realistic tale in which Noelle's knowledge of mathematics and cryptology is paramount. Readers will enjoy the tantalizing bits of information about both fields without being overwhelmed by the complexity of the information. The romance between Noelle and David softens the book a bit, and helps ease the harsher edges of the elements of terrorism that are necessary for the book. Shannon K. Butcher clearly knows her main characters as she has created two individuals who are perfect for one another despite their outside differences.

NO REGRETS is certainly what readers will be saying after purchasing this gem! Shannon K. Butcher has proven herself to be a true talent in the genre. The action elements of this tale are tempered by the sensuality that steams the pages. NO REGRETS is definitely going on my keeper shelf. Thank you, Shannon K. Butcher, for such a wonderful read!

Noelle Blanche may be too smart for her own good. Her amazing skills at cryptology have brought her to the attention of some very bad people. When she is rescued by the US military, she is forced to make a terrible decision. She can use her brain to help the US military and know her work for them will indirectly leave her with blood on her hands. Or she can die.

With this terrible decision before her, Noelle finds herself turning to one man. Her rescuer. The dangerous, deadly and desirable David Wolfe.

David walked away from his military career when his wife was murdered. When he learns that the men that killed his wife are after the brilliant Noelle, he cannot let her fall into their hands. David will do whatever it takes to protect her. Even at the cost of his heart.

You know that feeling you get when you discover an awesome new book? You want to tell everyone you know all about it. You want to write an email to the author begging for more. When you see a shopper pick up the book, you can't not recommend it and gush like crazy. Well, thats how I feel about No Regrets.

I have told everyone that will listen how much I love this book. It has awesome suspense. Total heart pounding and nail biting suspense. The romance is HOT. Really, really hot! Even if you took out the superb sexual heat and the lip biting suspense, the romance between Noelle and David would carry the story. Heart melting!

Shannon K Butcher, waiting a year for your next book is too tortuous for words. I can only console myself by rereading the delectable No Regrets!

Now in trade paper! A Marriage Without Regrets shares principles for successful marriages from the ultimate handbook—the Bible. “This book isn’t about having a perfect marriage or changing your spouse,” Kay says. “It’s about having the kind of marriage where you can stand before God and say, ‘Lord, I was all You intended me to be.” Speaking candidly about her first marriage, her conversion to Christianity, and her longtime marriage to Jack, Kay offers practical advice on communication, security, significance, parenting, and God’s guidelines for remarriage.

5 out of 5 stars Saved my life and my marriage........2006-12-30

I originally took this book as a study class and it was AMAZING. I was truly convicted that I wasn't being the wife that God called me to be and that was ALL I could do to save and restore my marriage. This book makes you say, "why didn't I already KNOW that??!!" So honest and forthcoming plain old TRUTH. Sometimes the truth hurts and is hard to swallow, but once we put our human pride aside we are able to move forward in faith...and that's when God can work miracles.

Pride will be put away and your marriage will thrive!

5 out of 5 stars GREAT book on building a solid marriage.......2006-09-02

Classic Kay Arthur! No-nonsense Biblical wisdom on how to build and maintain a marriage that is both satisfying and God honoring. Kay's insights have been very helpful to my wife and I, and we give this book to couples as an engagement / wedding gift. This book is also a great tool for those who may already have some regrets in their marriage, and need help in overcoming obstacles that are preventing their marriage from being all that it can be. Personal reflection and lots of Biblical wisdom make this a great read, with lasting value.

5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend.......2005-09-11

My wife and I did Kay's book prior to getting marriage and really liked it. While some might have issues on some of the points in the book, Kay backs everything up with biblical references and it lines up with the word of God. We gave this as a wedding gift. This is the second set that we have given out as a wedding or engagement gift.

1 out of 5 stars UGH! Walked out of the Class.......2003-10-13

I took several of Kay Arthur's classes on various books from the Bible but advise you...don't waste your time with this course. After several sessions, I walked out of class due to the lies given on the subject. After speaking with several other Christian counselors, it is obvious Kay is still in need of healing, as portrayed by the contents of this course. There are still some issues that need to be resolved. I guess if you were brought up in a Christian home and overly protective, you would fall for the context. However, if you have any street smarts or experienced the secular world, before coming to Christ, you would be offended.

I do recommend her classes and books on specific books of the Bible and Spiritual gifts.

It was indeed a risk, spending the degree of capital required in order to own this wonderful book-but what a treat it has been to read, to analyze, to listen and to learn. It is wonderfully put together, the analysis is terrific and helpful; the historic documentation is thorough and mixed. I am in complete agreement with many other reviewers when say that I cannot, for the life of me, understand why this book is not in mass production.

Thank you to the writers and thank you to the reviewers whom granted me the courage to make this fine purchase. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars If you can find it, get it! Why don't they reprint it?.......2004-01-27

I am about a 1500 USCF rated player. I am a Tournament Director (when I have to be). I have been playing for about two years and I'm 35 years old. Taking that into consideration, here it goes...

I am extremly skeptical about games collections. Far too many collections that contain annotated games are really nothing more than paragraph after paragraph of various lines with no actual supporting words/explanations. If we were all GMs this might be ample, but we're not and it's not. Some great game collections are Nunn's Move by Move and Chirnev's 100 Most Instructive games. These books will stand the test of time because they are fantastic games but are also annotated with the casual player in mind. Many explanations are literally move-by-move from the first move, and not too many variations going 32 ply. Other than a hard core GM studying, who really needs/wants this?

No Regrets is easily among the best of the best. Those familiar with Seirawan's easy-to-read "Play Winning Chess" series will not be dissapointed here. Seirawan explains the moves in plain English so everyone can understand. He goes over each move with the enthusiasm of a child on Christmas morning. So clear is the annotation in this book that you find yourself saying, "What's so brilliant about that?" But that's Seirawan's talent for annotating the game that gives you this feeling. All great chess games look like common sense when they're explained to you by someone who knows how to do it correctly. It just doesn't go that way when I'm actually at the board. But that's a different story.

I have been tempted to throw my copy up on ebay because this book seems to be worth something nowadays (I bought it off the shelf four years ago), but I just can't bring myself to do it. There's a LOT of chess books out there and it's not often that one is of this calibur. I have to keep it.

SO why is this book about such a famous match, with highly acclaimed annotation, and so obviously well done and in demand out of print? Beats the heck out of me. I think it's truly a shame that this book is not readily available. Hopefully someone will remedy this soon. If this book were more widely available I think it would easily go down as a classic book for players of all strengths. I lent it to a 2100 rated player at my club and he was ready to steal it from me! I think this book is a few steps above Nunn's "Move by Move" as far as educational value and target player strength. Truly a masterpeice. Ad to this all of the well-written diary-style accounts of the history surrounding the match and games, and you have an unbeatable book. A bargain at any price.

5 out of 5 stars A very honest view of the historic rematch!.......1998-05-13

GM Yasser Seirawan writes an account of the historic rematch between the suddenly appearing Bobby Fischer, and the long-obscured Boris Spassky. I love this book! Seirawan makes no apology for being a fan. He writes with honesty, but with the same child-like excitement that any Fischer fan would feel, from the preparations to the actual match itself. Most impressive to me was how the author did not skirt the issue of Fischer's outrageous remarks, but rather gave an honest assessment: Here is what Bobby said, and here is WHY he might have said it. Seirawan's enthusiam is contagious, and his notes, for the most part, don't shoot straight over the head of the average reader; therefore, being helpful to the chess amateur. I did not buy this book for the analysis of the games, but for the fan's view of the event, and I was not disappointed! Rev. Peter F. Hyatt, New York

I really thought this book was helpful. It was difficult to keep reading and basically took me almost 3 months to read but I finally finished it. I have to keep going back and re-reading but I suggest it to help you.

We live in a world in which twelve-step programmes abound, and worthy and worthwhile as they are, in fact there is nothing sacred about the number twelve that means every process must follow the same number of steps. Perhaps this is a minor observation with which to start, but I did find as I looked through the ten-step programme of Hamilton Beazley that the process is fairly complete, not really lacking in any particular step, and applaud Beazley for not trying to force his system into twelve steps, for the twelve-step anonymous programmes are something different in many ways.

This is a book about the past, about how the past impacts our lives and how we can more clearly see what it is we should hold fast to, and what we should let go. The title and the text often use the term 'regrets', but in fact this is as much about forgiveness as it is about regret - regret is often our inability to forgive ourselves, our situation, or some other aspect of our past, and forgiveness is a difficult practice.

I use the word 'practice' here, because it is an important concept that Beazley incorporates fully into his work - the ten-step process is a multi-layered practice for overcoming regret and both practicing and embodying forgiveness. So often we treat the idea of forgiveness as if it is something that is easy to do, and something that is a one-off occurrence. Sometimes we may have convinced ourselves that in fact we have forgiven or let go of a long-standing hurt, only to find it resurface at inopportune and inappropriate times.

'While we cannot change a past event, we can change our reaction to it, our understanding of it, and what we do with it.' The ten-step programme here takes advantage of the success and experience of others in similar situations (including the twelve-step programmes), and incorporates many kinds of spiritual practice. Like its cousin twelve-steps, it doesn't require adherence to any particular organised or institutional religion.

In the first section, Beazley sets the stage by looking at what regrets are and aren't, and giving a short encapsulation of what the steps will be, and how one uses spiritual and psychological tools and methods. While this is a book that would be wonderful to use in a group setting or in consultation with a therapist, spiritual director or other counselor, it is also a book that can be used to good effect by the individual seeker. The first piece is understanding, and the first requirement is honesty.

In the first step, one lists regrets. This requires honest appraisal and reflection, not exaggeration but also not overlooking pieces. This does not mean that things will not be honestly missed or forgotten. One of the good things about these steps is that, while there is advantage to them being worked in order, they are not lock-step in progression, and one can go back to rework steps or add to what has been done.

In these steps, the one on the journey will do a lot of examination, soul-searching, and a lot of growing. Beazley uses personal stories of his own as well as others he's encountered to show in example how many of the items and steps can work.

There are appendices that include further readings, summaries and quick references. Similarly, the first few chapters are worth repeating several times in the process. This is not a once-and-for-all process; while it can be a life-changing process, life still progresses, and much in the way that twelve-step programmes continue over and over to reach new levels, this process can as well.

A practical and unique method for eliminating regrets. The author's approach makes it clear that not only does he talk the talk, but he walks the walk as well.

Readers will discover many helpful strategies that will allow them to shed their regrets as if they were old clothes. This book is a valuable tool that can be used by anyone who is troubled by their past. James Green, author of "If There's One Thing I've Learned."

No Regrets is an invaluable guide for providing a practical framework to work through issues or experiences that are still holding on to us and holding us back from experiencing our true potential. Hamilton Beazley is a gifted author who articulates the steps in a non-judgmental approach. It is clear to me from reading the book that Dr. Beazley has lived the steps himself which makes his work all the more credible as an author. No Regrets is the first book that I have found that incorporates a process with the contemplative practice of reflection and the inner journey. And he does it in a contemporary language that speaks to our needs and modern way of life.

Through many years of self-exploration and discovery, I had stumbled across several of the steps outlined in the book. Dr. Beazley outlines a process and a cohesive framework so one doesn't have to spend countless hours reading and searching on your own. I wish he had written this book years ago. While I do not consider myself a person who is regretful and dwells on the past, his work reminded me that I did have some issues which demanded my reflection. I can now move on to better productivity and new possibilities.

I have already given No Regrets to several professional colleagues not only for their own use but to assist them in supporting others who are attempting to shed issues which are holding them back. Their reaction has been as enthusiastic as mine. Executive and personal coaches as well as any organization and leadership consultant will find the book enormously helpful and one that should be a staple in their consulting tool box.

5 out of 5 stars No Regrets for Buying This Book.......2004-03-07

Dr. Beazley's book is gracefully written and profoundly insightful. Read it. Absorb it.

"No Regrets" offers the possibility of deep transformation in readers precisely because it is: (1) practical, in the sense that it answers the question "What can I do now?" and (2) spiritual, because it invites readers to ask the even more profound questions that underlie lingering regrets. Too many books about inner issues only give outer answers: "Do this and your problem will go away!" or they offer outer doctrines disguised as inner answers: "Believe this and you'll be a happy person!" By contrast, Beazley's ten steps are, at heart, a process that spirals readers inward to the quiet spaces where there is no self deception.

Here is a personal example triggered by reading "No Regrets." I thought I had forgiven others-and even myself-for three or four traumatic events in my personal past. Yet, pesky regrets still came upon me unbidden, like wraiths in the night. I wanted them to go away. After reading Dr. Beazley's book, I realized that I had NOT yet forgiven others, much less myself. Forgiveness comes at the end of the process; I had not yet done the reflective work to reach that stage.

This journey is not easy precisely because it is so important, but Dr. Beasley has clearly lived what he writes about. He joins the reader as a supportive coach and fellow seeker, not a judgmental prophet. Those who read this book looking for intellectual understanding and practical advice about the phenomenon of regrets will find it. Those who read it yearning for emergence into wholeness will also be satisfied, as long as they enter into a process like the one described.

Dr. Beazley is such a clear, accessible writer that one might miss the sophisticated psychological research and timeless spiritual principles that form the foundation of "No Regrets." No matter. If you are serious about letting go of regrets, it's time to integrate what your head knows with what your heart and gut want you to BE. Read the book.

I read this book in 12 hours would've been faster but I was at work and had other things to do. The story line was excellent and the writer did a very good job with the characters. I laughed and cried reading this book, but it sends a message: Just b/c your from the hood doesn't mean you have to let the hood take you under or down and people can/do change. I can't wait until your next book...since you left your reader hangin' at the end, but I ain't mad at cha. I've added you to a list of favorite authors of mine...which isn't many. 5 out of 5 stars Very interesting reading!.......2007-03-21

I really enjoyed this book! I had asked around for some books on acclerated children because my 5 year old son is getting ready to begin 2nd grade work and this book was recommended to me.

Alexandra is an engaging writer and I read the book in 1 day. She was the oldest of 10 children being homeschooled and all earning their masters degrees *at home* by age 16. I also really benefitted from reading the articles written by her mother at the Homeschool World Practical Homeschooling website.

5 out of 5 stars Very Impressive Young Lady.......2001-08-14

This book helped me understand that there is an acceptable alternative to the public school norm without endangering the talents or acceptability of the child. I read the book when it first came out when my daughter was in second grade. She has been home schooled since, and is now a senior at BYU, she turned 19 yesterday. I have no regrets and if you are looking for assurance that homeschooling has a chance in your family, read the book for comfort. Not every child will match Alexandra's schedule, but most will thrive when given the opportunity.

5 out of 5 stars Good book about homeschooling (even before it caught on!).......1999-10-21

Here is a story about a young woman growing up in a family that homeschooled their children before the homeschooling "movement" caught. Good narrative overall. (The book is by Alexandra Swann.)

4 out of 5 stars Blackfunk II: No Regrets / No Apologiesby Michael Presley.......2005-01-12

The book I am reviewing is Michael Presley's "Black Funk II: No Regrets, No Apologies." This book tells how people must fight to save their loved ones in the streets of New York City and how they have to struggle over their feelings of love. One of the main characters named Rashaun is a defense attorney, and he is fighting one of the biggest cases of his life. He is trying to keep his friend Tyrone from doing life in prison. I liked the book because it reminds me of something that happened in my life and other people as well. This book kept me reading and wanting more. I really enjoyed part two just as much as part one. I can't wait until I buy BlackFunk III. I recommend this book to people ages 15 and older. It is a really interesting and remarkable book. Thank you for reading my review.

3 out of 5 stars Sex on a whole 'nother level.......2004-10-24

Rashaun Jones and Andria Jackson are at the epicenter of a major sex "shake down" in Michael Presley's "Black Funk II: No Regrets, No Apologies." They must fight to save their love as the cold hard streets of New York City provide a backdrop to their struggle over black love. Rashaun, a high powered defense attorney, is fighting one of the biggest cases of his career. He's also in the fight of his love life because his ex-girlfriend, Yvonne, is the prosecuting attorney in the major case and determined to win him back at all costs. Andria is trying her best to fight off a shady old lover, Paul, who is using every conceivable venue to gain back the love of the beautiful social worker. The whole idea and definition of "black funk" is something crucial to the storyline that the reader must discover for his or herself. Without giving away the plot, Rashaun is trying desperately to save his best friend from a long prison sentence for taking part in "black funk."

Presley does a good job of differentiating between the numerous characters that make up "Black Funk." The grammar errors were annoying at times, but Presley's socially conscious message at various points in the novel often overshadowed those glitches in the story, hence my rating. I would recommend this book to readers who love a good, dramatic story that will leave you wanting more.
