Sonar 6 Producer Editions` New Testament.......2007-09-01
Definitive technical cross reference for musicians using Sonar6 . Cakewalk should just sign a contract with Garrigus to include his book with the purchase and stick to designing the software.
Not Bad.......2007-08-29
I would have liked to see Midi and Audio editing in separate sections making it easier to follow on or the other.
garrigus-sonar 6.......2007-07-12
This is the book that CAKEWALK TECH reccomends as the most comphrehensive view of thier SONAR 6 system. I'd read this first, it makes the user manual simple afterwords. The THOMSON COURSE TECH books on AUDIO systems are arguably the best all around collection and , again, arguably, the Garrigus is the best of the THOMSON library. Garrigus's book also is linked to his own large web page with forums, access to Garrigus, downloadable tutorials and demos applied to the book. Know that the book has been updated and you'll have to download the next 4 chapters from THOMSON, but it's a free d.l. and keeps the book current. If you couplke this book with PAUL GILREATHS "THE ART OF MIDI ORCHESTRATION 3rd edition, you'll be pretty well set-up. Avery good ,mostly easy to read manual
Two Thumbs Up for Sonar 6 Power.......2007-06-27
I have read Scott's Sonar 3 and Sonar 6 books multiple times and have found them to both be very informative and helpful.
Scott's writing style is easy to follow and very applicable in the studio setting. He brings out the "hidden" benefits without bogging you down with tech-ease. "Just give me the facts." And that's what he does in a logical order.
If you use Sonar and you want to be more efficient and proficient, take a look at Scott's resources. It's well worth the $$.
easy read.......2007-05-18
A great source of information for sonar 6, I am not that savvy with computers and software, but this book is an easy read and explains things so I can understand.

Book Description
Cakewalk showcases and makes available for the first time the superbly decorated cakes that have earned cake decorator and sugar artist extraordinaire Margaret Braun her stellar reputation.
This book contains easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions for constructing fifteen of Braun's greatest creations. In addition to offering the tools and a foolproof decorating method for each featured cake, Braun also provides the creative and culinary background on each of her confections. Each sugar masterpiece is the result of many influences--all of which are conveyed through Braun's own words and an elegant blend of imagery that includes her diverse visual references, magnificently drawn and hand-lettered schematic cake plans, illustrations done in food coloring, and especially commissioned photography by renowned photographer Quentin Bacon.
Braun also reveals her secrets for beautiful cakes, such as achieving the perfect consistency for fillings and icings, mixing colors to get the right hue, and combining colors and motifs successfully. A visual glossary covers every decorative motif featured in the book, describing its creation through clear visuals and easy-to-follow text. The volume also includes Braun's favorite recipes, including basic cakes, an array of icings and ganaches, rolled fondant, pastillage, marzipan, and family recipes like Braun's mother's flourless chocolate cake. Finally, a detailed listing and description of the necessary cake-decorating tools and a sources section round out this definitive work.
Customer Reviews:
I'm on my third copy of this book!!!.......2007-06-03
I've read through several of the other reviews that have stated that this book isn't meant for a beginner; however, when I first began to decorate cakes in culinary school (and I mean I had literally NEVER picked up a piping bag before).
Was I able to decorate a cake like Margaret Braun from reading the book??? Of course not!
I don't think that this was ever the point of the book. The artist, Magaret Braun, tells you to practice, practice, practice!
The more experience that I've gotten, the better I've gotten at decorating cakes.
If you're looking for a book that you can buy and immediately duplicate, then you're not going to find it in this book.
If you're looking for a book that will take you something to strive for, this is it.
Spectacular.......2007-05-31
Es un libro espectacular y excelente, muy bueno, claro, explicativo y bellas fotos. Lo recomiendo a todas las personas que deseen aprender como decorar exoticos y majestuosos pasteles, tortas o biscochos.
It is spectacular and excellent book, descriptive and with beautiful pictures. I recommend it for all people that want to learn how to decorate exotic and majestic cakes.
Amazing.......2007-04-22
This book is amazing, I love this woman. However, this book is NOT for the beginner in cake design. Had I bought it during my novice days, I would have been dissapointed. Now that I know what's going on in cake decorating and design, I understood every single instruction given on this book. I used to beat myself over the head to try to design the most beautiful cake ever. With a few tricks of the trade given by this author, now I can. I am no expert like Margaret is, but my ideas are now flowing. The way she crafts the chalices as cake toppers, it's the most simple way possible. The technique is there, the rest is up to your imagination. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THIS BOOK. I love it, and I browse it every day to get more inspirations and ideas.
Fantastic!!.......2006-08-30
This is a wonderful book for getting wedding cake ideas or creating your own amazing cake. The recipes are easy to follow and fun to make! A great book, you can't go wrong!
Artistic Cake Designs.......2006-03-07
This beautiful book is so inspiring. It shows fine detail and imagination. I would recommend it to everyone!

Book Description
Cakewalk's software synthesizers are some of the most powerful and widely used on the market. This book shows you how to operate and get the best results from their complete range of synths, from those bundled with Cakewalk's main products, to the rgc:audio synthesizers, to Cakewalk's newest synthesizers, including Dimension Pro and Rapture. Discusses filters, envelopes, effects, the sfz format, how to create patches, and more.
Customer Reviews:
The Subtitle Says It All!.......2007-05-14
The book contains a great introduction to "virtual analog" synths which applies regardless of whether its a Cakewalk product or not. Each chapter dives into the depths of a specific Cakewalk synth, many of which are bundled with various Cakewalk products, so this book is like an addendum to the owner's manual. I don't consider myself a synth "tweakhead" so I found this book EXACTLY what I needed! For musicians who like to tweak their synths instead of simply playing the Presets, this is the book that explains what you're doing when you adjust those knobs, dials and sliders. Very nice!
All you need is a host program (Cakewalk's Sonar, Home Studio or Project5 will be fine) and you've already got some of these synths in your software arsenal. You can download some of these synths for free from Cakewalk! I recommend purchasing Dimension Pro. I've been playing around with Z3TA+ and am eyeballing Rapture as well. These are serious studio quality synths, each with a TON of power. This book details how to harness that power and put it to work in your music.
Excellent resource!.......2007-03-12
I have needed this book for years. Step by step, thorough instructions that have helped me to really explore the deep possibilities in Cakewalk synths. The accompanying downloads make the value of this book increase exponentially. The section on Z3TA+ is worth the price of admission and then some. Thanks!
Cakewalk Synth Sound Designing 101.......2007-02-02
Great book. Although, could not down load the down loadable chapters. A must for, "Cakewalk Synths Users". Goes into good details about sound designing.
Covers the Full Range.......2007-01-11
Cakewalk is one of the leading companies in the music technology market. But up until now there has not been a single integrated book that covers all of the Cakewalk synthesizers. At last there is. And an excellent book it is. It is suitable for the beginner who wants to understand what a synthesizer is and how it can be used to the experienced user who wants to understand his or her synthesizer in greater depth. The book goes as far as you are likely to want to go.
This book has been written with the understanding that most people will not have access to all of the synthesizers in the book. So the book begins with a general introduction to the field in general, which is followed by a full page chart showing a list of the various Cakewalk synthesizers and by their feature set tells you what chapters you should be reading.
Conversely, this approach allow allows you to identify which features are important to you and identifies which synthesizers you can use.
If you are a CakeWalk Sonar user, Buy this book NOW!.......2006-12-07
Let me amend that; if you make music with a DAW Buy "cakewalk synthesizers" now!
First off, I am a guitar player NOT a keyboard player. Oh my father tried to have me trained to play the piano, and I can still play blues solos in the key of C, but I never mastered the keyboard. I own several hardware synths but I have never been able to tweak the presets to create new or more appropriate sounds. Now I can! In "cakewalk synthesizers" Simon Cann walks you through the synthesis process, and has you creating and tweaking sounds right from the get go. The principles and techniques apply to any synth; hardware or software. Each of the synthesizers bundled with Sonar and Project 5 and CakeWalk's new stand-alone synths; Z3TA+, Dimension Pro, Rapture, are covered in great detail. The book alone is well worth the price of admission, but when coupled the downloadable chapters and content, buying this book is a no-brainer. If you make music in the digital world, you need this book! Every guitar player knows that his tone is his signature. Virtual instruments are here to stay and everyone producing music today needs to know how to take control of the tools of the trade. Why sound like everyone else when you can be creating your own signature sounds immediately.
Thanks Simon!

Book Description
In these dazzling stories, acclaimed author Lee Smith wants you to meet:
Mrs. Joline B. Newhouse, who writes a "fortnightly" newspaper column called "Between the Lines."
Georgia Rose, the girl whose life is more like a soap opera than the TV serial she's addicted to.
Martha Rasnick, the young housewife in "Dear Phil Donahue" who writes all her troubles to the TV personality.
Florrie, the cake lady in "Cakewalk" who causes her prissy sister no end of embarrassment by "wearing running shoes, at her age, and wooly white athletic socks that fall in crinkles down around her ankles."
From the Paperback edition.
Customer Reviews:
A great collection that does not disappoint!.......2005-09-25
One of the best short stories i have ever read is by Lee Smith (Live Bottomless, in News of the Spirit). So i was really looking forward to this book. I have to admit that short stories are not for everyone. Sometimes, especially if they are too good, you may feel let down when they finish. But the stories in this collection are great. Each one of them, though, would make great preludes to a novel.
Lee Smith writes about Southern characters without the common fallback of making them seem lovable hicks. There's many an author (and especially movie writers) who love to portray Southerners as a bunch of illiterate adorable rednecks. This is not the case with her. The stories could be set anywhere, except that there is always an air, a scent of all things Southern, percolating the narratives.
Some of the common themes throughout the stories are the ability to see the future, the stigma of being a "fast" woman, and the curse of being artistic.
I'd recommend this collection to anyone!
Listening to wonderful southern voices.......2002-06-03
Lee Smith continues to be a unique voice of the south. Cakewalk is a collection of short stories that bring together a diverse group of people that only Lee could create. Debbi has left her old life behind and has started a life with Bobby who has a job with dolphins at hte Seaquarium. It is just a matter of time before Debbi and Bobby are able to get things on track. Lauren and her friend georgia Rose and the terible gift Georgia Rose had...the gift of foresight. Florrie, the cake lady who is married to Earl Mingo and their unconventional marriage. Florrie's cakes keep her family together and her home safe. Martha Resnick is writing a letter to Phil Donahue, the only adult she feels she has a constant connection with in her life, at least she can count on him to show up every morning. All these people and many more are like the people you may know and Lee Smith is able to bring each of their stories and many more to the page with humor and a keen ear to the south.
Wonderful, realistic people and stories.......2002-04-03
I love short stories and I really love Lee Smith's short stories, especially in Cakewalk. I feel like she is writing about my relatives and my friends. And about me. Every story is a small gem that sparkles on its own. The short story is a vastly underappreciated art form these days, but if more people read Lee Smith's, I'm sure that short stories would make a comeback. I hope she continues to write novels, but not give up on her short stories. They would be sorely missed.
cute stories.......2001-01-06
The stories were good but I think I've been spoiled by Lee Smith's novels. I like more depth but as I said, the stories are cute.
Tantalizing but Unfulfilling.......2000-12-27
Almost without exception, I loved every character and every story Lee Smith introduced me to in "Cakewalk". From Joline Newhouse and her dark secrets, to Georgia Rose and her hidden powers, and to Martha Rasnick and the stranger she kept hidden in her garage, Ms Smith kept me entertained. But for the very reason that I am not a fan of short stories, I felt cheated by the time each story ended. Just as I grew to know each new character and to be baited with each new plot, it was over. In every story, Ms Smith has the groundwork to write an entire book - complete with plots full of potential and a cast of new and diverse characters. I have read several of her novels and look forward to reading those I have not managed to get to yet, but I'm simply not into short stories.
If you are a fan of short stories and a fan of fiction set in the Deep South, then I do recommend "Cakewalk". But if you are like me and like to really settle in for a while with a novel, then try one of Lee Smith's full-length works instead.

Customer Reviews:
The information is a bit out of date.......2005-05-03
Since this book was kind of recommanded with Cakewalk's Home studio so I took it then learned that the Home Studio mentioned in this book isn't the same Home studio 2 product currently made by Cakewalk. Some information still applies but it'll take some mental exercise to filter out those no longer applies. If you are looking for current information on Cakewalk's product Home studio 2 then you need to look elsewhere.
Sonar 2 Power! is a better book for Home Studio 2004 owners.......2003-10-29
I haven't read this book, but I did skim through it and noticed it looked thinner on the shelves than Sonar 2 Power!, and chose to buy Sonar 2 Power! because I thought it was more comprehensive. I've been very happy about that purchase and what I've learned about Cakewalk Home Studio.
Sonar 2 Power! is a good book for Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 (and XL) users, because Home Studio 2004 is basically the same as Sonar 2 with a few missing features that Home Studio 2004.
I did a comparison of it to my recently acquired 2004 XL upgrade and other than the synchronization function, a couple of UI changes (Snap to Grid button changed locations), and a few effects that Home Studio XL doesn't give you, everything works identical to the Sonar 2 version in the book.
I'd recommend everyone look at Sonar 2 Power! instead of this book first... At least more advanced users. Maybe this is a good book for novices though.
Good for the basics.......2003-03-22
I bought this book because it advertised Guitar Pro and Home Studio 2002...But it actually only covers Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 which isn't even available anymore. That's sorta annoying; but if you read along with the Pro Audio tips, theres a lot in common with what you would need for Guitar Pro and/or Home Studio. I kept it because like I said, it does help you tweak your system for the other programs; and it seems that all 3 programs are a lot alike.
So in conclusion, it's not what I thought it was going to be, but it covers what I needed to know.
Disappointed.......2002-01-08
What spurred me to buy this book was the lack of guidance in Cakewalk Home Studio regarding the use of the Pitch Wheel. Being a newcomer to Sequencers, I needed this basic information.
I was quite disappointed to find that Cakewalk Power didn't have much to offer in its one paragraph relating to the Pitch Wheel except to say that it was there.
I just hope that the next item I'll need some assistance with from the book will be covered at least a little better.
Great Source.......2001-12-31
Scott does and excellent job of explaining Cakewalk products. He truly understands thier applications and computers. Now I just have to put all that knowledge to use, what fun. If you have Guitar Studio, ect get this or one of his other books. Thanks Scott.

This a wonderful collection of very easy-to-follow yet unique cake recipes. The format is simple to follow with the author supplying interesting tid- bits on how to serve certain cakes. Each, when baked, makes the recipients feel as if they have been seriously fussed over. And each recipe, though I have only made about four of them, is delicious. It is a delight to have a book just for special cakes. And it's beautifully designed as well.

Chapter Contents.......2006-02-28
This book is a good source of information. But, I recommend using this book in conjunction with the Cakewalk's SONAR Manual.
OK but annoying.......2006-01-11
The book is aimed at new users to Cakewalk Sonar, and it does meet the needs of it's target audience. However, the book has significant flaws that makes it harder to read than it needs to be.
To begin with, whoever edited this book needs to turn in their license. Run-on sentences abound, as with this example (from page 5):
"Many options are obtained by right-clicking on specific areas, such as Clip, and in general SONAR should be quite intuitive to anyone who is familiar with the Windows environment but if you're entirely new to all of this then don't be put off by the learning curve just make sure you can handle your computer before adding digital sound technology to the pot!"
No kidding, that's a paragraph from the book.
There are a multitude of pictures illustrating various bits of the software, and usually the pictures are near the text that talks about them. Sometimes it's a bit of a guessing game which text goes with which picture though, as there are no captions whatsoever. And, in many cases, the pictures are relatively tiny, making them hard to view. This is annoying when the picture is showing some complex part of the software: the various elements wind up quite tiny.
SONAR uses many little buttons to control various features, and pictures of those buttons are imbedded in the text, which is good. However, as with the example pictures, the imbedded pictures are often smaller than the buttons appear on the screen. Also, some of the button pictures have low contrast, making them hard to see on the page. In a few inconsistent places the button pictures are magnified, making reading much easier. I wish this practice had been followed throughout the book. There are occasional cases where the picture was orphaned away from it's text onto the next page.
The font used in the book is a thin sans serif font, making the book harder to read unless you have good light.
Another annoyance: at no point in the book does the author actually say what version of SONAR he's talking about. It's only by looking at a picture in the "Setting Up" chapter do we find out that the book is about SONAR 4, and that's only because the author included the splash screen from the Installer program. Dumb luck.
If you can get past all of that, the technical content is actually pretty useful for the beginning SONAR 4 user.
I had higher hopes. I own other books from Elsevier's Focal Press line on the subject of digital sound recording and mastering, and they are stunningly useful and well edited. Unfortunately, the care taken in producing those other works didn't carry over to this one.

Customer Reviews:
No border between stage and audience.......2001-11-17
Elaine Stritch is Lillian Hellman herself, showing her stubbornness and fragility very well. I'm touched by Bruce Davison's calm narration with passion reserved inside.
What I like "Cakewalk" best is no border between stage and audience. Listening to this audio, I feel like I've been living with two writers in the very same place and time, sharing their joy, anger, pain and struggle as a writer and human. All scenes with full-color appear before us, then we are not an observer any more. This will invite you to consider what real relationship is. Peter Feibleman is the greatest natural born artist.
A fabulous find........2001-04-07
Elaine Stritch is incredible in this recording. Though I have only minor familiarity with Lillian Hellman, this play is simultaneously light and dark, humorous and serious, and a perfect portrait of two artists together through time. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone.
LILLIAN HELLMAN - OFF STAGE.......2000-09-13
Elaine Strich becomes legendary novelist/playwright Lillian Hellman in this sometimes scathing, often tumultuous, frequently poignant account of Hellman's long term relationship with a man 25 years younger than she. There's wit, there's passion - all delivered by an A-one cast performing live in Los Angeles.

An amazing resource. Morgan has forgotten more than most people will ever know about the history of jazz. Spectacular work!

I think that this book provided me with great knowledge about African American music in the early years. It went into great depth and was easy to read. Great for research papers.
