Book Description
Is sex more trouble than it's worth? Are you too slow? Do you rely excessively on prolonged (even painful) intercourse, oral sex or vibrators? Is your orgasm hit or miss?
Now with this bold but simple 3 step program, any woman - YOU - can achieve orgasm without difficulty during sex. IMPOSSIBLE? Not if you follow the quick and easy formula you will learn in this book.
Now there is hope for any woman suffering the agonizing frustration of a too-slow, unreliable or non-existent orgasm. Five Minutes to Orgasm once and for all crushes the dogma that achieving orgasm must take longer for a woman than it does for a man.
Stop blaming your partner for being too fast, inept and uncaring. Five Minutes to Orgasm describes in frank, detailed terms a method for making female orgasm the natural, effortless outcome of each and every lovemaking experience, and frees him from slavery to the female orgasm.

Educational.......2007-09-12
This book is easy to read, entertaining and educational, a trusty guide to the physical means to that wonderful and mind blowing orgasm.
Five Minutes to Orgasm.......2007-09-11
I decided to buy this book because I've always had problems reaching orgasm when my husband and I make love, and I was hopeful that there was something I hadn't tried. This book is great, especially for a woman who hadn't really tried the technique the author suggests. I guess I thought there was something wrong with it, or I hadn't thought of using manipulation and intercourse together. But the author makes a good case for the point of view of the book, and even though I am relatively inexperienced at masturbation, I decided to practice more as the author suggests. I would recommend this book as an augmentation to other sexual literature, depending on how experienced you are, whether you do or do not have difficulty reaching climax. It gives more detailed and complete explanations than many, somewhat more than your average "improve your relationship" type of books give. From talking to some of my other women friends, especially those who are not embarrassed to admit they still haven't gotten it "right," many of us could use this refresher course in making love.
Faster and Efficient Orgasms.......2007-09-08
If you are one of the many women who have a problem in this area, in order to achieve orgasm during intercourse, you need to learn how your body works. Learn how to get in positions where you can move your hips and easily reach your clitoris for a fast and easy orgasm. You can continue to try reaching orgasm through thrusting alone and end up dissatisfied, or you can guarantee your orgasm every time you have sex by using this book.
Purchased for a Friend.......2007-09-08
I bought this book for a friend who has been having the kind of trouble with her sex life that I used to have - trouble reaching orgasm. It was never impossible for me; just difficult. From this book, I quickly learned the new approach (although nothing's really "new") and immediately tested it with my boyfriend. It worked, and he was impressed. The book is well-written and an easy read. The formula is described so that it is easy to do.
Five Stars or More.......2007-08-28
WOW! I give this book FOUR stars for the step by step instructions and a sense of humor to make it go down easier. I am 40 years old and sex has gotten to be so much trouble, my husband and I hardly ever do it anymore. I've always been able to masturbate to orgasm but couldn't achieve orgasm through intercourse. I learned there is nothing wrong with me and most women need direct or indirect clitoral stimulation to reach orgasm.
This book deserves FIVE stars for giving me more self confidence to experiment, and for giving me the courage to try using what I already knew in a new way. I'm a little more adventurous and more aware of what works and as a result of reading this book, I'm consistently reaching orgasm with my husband during sex and it doesn't take all night - which we are both too tired to handle anyway!!

Book Description
Waiting for Daisy is about loss, love, anger and redemption. It’s about doing all the things you swore you’d never do to get something you hadn’t even been sure you wanted. It’s about being a woman in a confusing, contradictory time. It’s about testing the limits of a loving marriage. And it’s about trying (and trying and trying) to have a baby.
Orenstein’s story begins when she tells her new husband that she’s not sure she ever wants to be a mother; it ends six years later after she’s done almost everything humanly possible to achieve that goal, from “fertility sex” to escalating infertility treatments to New Age remedies to forays into international adoption. Her saga unfolds just as professional women are warned by the media to heed the ticking of their biological clocks, and just as fertility clinics have become a boom industry, with over two million women a year seeking them out. Buffeted by one jaw-dropping obstacle after another, Orenstein seeks answers both medical and spiritual in America and Asia, along the way visiting an old flame who’s now the father of fifteen, and discovering in Japan a ritual of surprising solace. All the while she tries to hold onto a marriage threatened by cycles, appointments, procedures and disappointments. Waiting for Daisy is an honest, wryly funny report from the front, an intimate page-turner that illuminates the ambivalence, obsession, and sacrifice that characterize so many modern women’s lives.

Fantastic: Reminds me of "Eat, Pray, Love".......2007-10-03
I thoroughly enjoyed this book-- surprisingly, because I didn't have any personal experience with infertility. I do have many friends and relatives with these experiences, so I was curious to understand more about what they're going through. The author is a brilliant and clever writer-- I loved her "voice"-- it reminded me of Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat, Pray, Love." She's funny, honest and insightful. This was actually a page-turner-- not what I would have thought for this type of memoir. I LOVED this book and I'm recommending it to all my friends.
Waiting for Daisy .......2007-09-25
This book was difficult to read. Author was cold, hard to connect with and not easy to agree with. Definitely not like-able or personable. Very selfish individual. I hope she raises Daisy to Not be like her.
Highly recommended for those feeling alone or isolated in their fertility journey!.......2007-09-24
This book was a God-send to me in my own painful infertility journey. Peggy's descriptions of her mental states expressed my own, but in ways I could not put words to. From her initial ambivalence about parenthood, to all-consuming obsessions with achieving it, her relations with her husband, and frustrations with fertility specialists, her journey affirmed that I was not alone in my journey. Her sense of humor and wit actually made me giggle a few times and, mostly, helped me feel so much less alone. I would highly recommend this book!!
A wonderful book.......2007-09-19
I read this book all in one evening. I loved every page of it. I have read just about every book on this topic, but no one has described, with such accuracy and eloquence, the trying to conceive journey like Peggy Orenstein. I have not read another book that I feel deals better with this topic, especially in terms of being realistic. Nothing seems forced, her doubts and concerns are so vivid. She states everything that has been swimming around in my head in such a clear and honest way, that it actually helped me to organize my own feelings about this struggle. I would recommend this book to everyone going through infertility, and to everyone who knows someone going through infertility, and to everyone else for that matter. It is beautifully written; touching, but funny; sad, but hopeful. This is a book that everyone will be able to relate to in one way or another.
Poignant, funny, and on-the-mark!.......2007-09-13
Peggy Orenstein's portrayal of a quest for a child in "Waiting for Daisy" is candid and humorous. I enjoyed every chapter of this thought-provoking book. Orenstein's honest eloquence in expressing her feelings throughout her incredible journey moved me so much. Time and time again, I found myself thinking, "I thought I was the only one who felt that way!"
Whether you have ever been through any of Ms. Orenstein's challenges: cancer, infertility, IVF treatments, and adoption attempts, or whether you have simply felt somewhat ambivalent about parenthood.... this book is for you.

"Uncle Fred was someone I saw at weddings and funerals and once in a while at Giovichinni's Meat Market, ordering a quarter pound of olive loaf. Eddie Such, the butcher, would have the olive loaf on the scale and Uncle Fred would say, 'You've got the olive loaf on a piece of waxed paper. How much does that piece of waxed paper weigh? You're not gonna charge me for that waxed paper, are you? I want some money off for the waxed paper.'"
The speaker is Stephanie Plum, the glamorous if slightly ditzy bounty hunter from Trenton, New Jersey, and one of the most original creations in recent mystery fiction.
In this fifth entry in Janet Evanovich's increasingly popular series, Stephanie's problems are many and varied. She's not making enough money picking up FTAs (Failures to Appear) for her cousin Vinnie, of Vincent Plum Bail Bonds; her red-hot love affair with Detective Joe Morelli has cooled off; and her giant extended family is no help at all. For instance, Uncle Fred the cheapskate has disappeared, leaving behind some suspicious photographs of body parts in garbage bags and links to some really dangerous people.
When Stephanie turns to her friend and mentor, Ranger, for financial advice, he gets her involved in a gang of toughs doing instant evictions for landlords. (She complains to Ranger about the job and its dangers, prompting one of the hired thug to say, "Man, you don't like to get shot. You don't like to get arrested. You don't know how to have fun at all.")
Most of Stephanie's charm, of course, comes from her attitude--a combination of the brazen bravado that turns a failed lingerie model into a bounty hunter in the first place and the normal fears of a person in over her head.
Other Plums in paperback, by the numbers: One for the Money, Two for the Dough, Three to Get Deadly, and Four to Score. --Dick Adler

Stephanie Plum series.......2007-09-02
I love the Stephanie Plum series of novels. I really hate reading so I purchase them both in audio for me and paperback for houseguests and friends. I'm drawn in with the excitment and adventure of the story that Janet seems to capture in every novel. It has twists, turns, Lula, mystery, wonder, and of course two very "HOT" men! Who wouldn't want a mix of both men. :} I would recommend the "Plum" series, her "Full" series, as well as her earlier novels of mixed titles. They're all great fun and keep you as a reader at the edge of your seat waiting to see if a cars going to get blown up, who's died this week, who attends the pot roast dinner, who she sleeps with next, what will burn down next, and will she get her man (love or bounty). I hope you enjoy them as much as I have. I look forward to #14 in the "Plum" series, the next "Full" novel, and the new novel Janet recently wrote with a new author being released this October. Thank you!
The Language Is Offensive.......2007-08-09
A couple of acquaintances recommended Stephanie Plum and Evanovich to me for humourous reading. It was a waste for me. They are many "fun" books out there with decent language to take up my spare time.
Murder and mayhem.......2007-07-26
"High Five," drops young Trenton, NJ, bounty hunter, Stephanie Plum, into her usual refreshing frenzy of mayhem, disaster, sleuthing and old-neighborhood New Jersey.
This time the disappearance of cheap, crotchety old Uncle Fred nags at Stephanie's attention while her desperate need for money drives her to ask enigmatic, taciturn, mysterious and powerful mentor-colleague Ranger for work. Such as a job of "interior renovation," which involves sweeping drug dealers from their squat at dawn.
Between working for Ranger, taking Grandma Mazur to funeral viewings, being bested one too many times by her only fugitive (a "little person" computer geek), and struggling with her feelings for vice cop and sometime lover, Joe Morelli, Stephanie hunts for Fred. The only clue is a roll of pictures found in his desk - of human body parts in a garbage bag.
Evanovich keeps the antics and action jumping without overdoing her dry humor or losing sight of her crisp, mysterious plot.
Most of her characters will be familiar from earlier books ("One For the Money," Two For the Dough," "Three to Get Deadly," "Four to Score"), but this is no problem for new readers.
Highly entertaining.......2007-04-22
This was the first book I read (well, listened to) by Janet Evanovich, and more will follow. I think I got a different female reader (C.J. something?), but the voice fitted the characters very well. I laughed out loud quite a few times. ( "stick a fork in me, I'm done!") and as a bonus there was an interview with the author at the end.
High Five -- the fun's still alive!.......2007-03-28
I've been giggling my way through the Stephanie Plum series of mysteries, and while I've enjoyed each one (and had to explain many times to my husband what I was laughing at), I started to find with the third and fourth books that maybe I was getting a little tired of the series. They started to seem the same, with the characters all stalled where they were in the previous book.
But I see that they are in fact growing and evolving, sometimes in surprising ways! Lula is really getting into her some-time role as bounty hunter's assistant (which gets her out of the bail bond office, where she files). Grandma Mazur is crazy as ever, but has added to her arsenal. Sparks fly between Stephanie and Ranger (and Stephanie and Morelli, which makes things even more interesting). And most importantly, Stephanie seems to be starting to get the hang of this bounty hunter thing. I wasn't sure I could stomach 11(+?) books of her bumbling around all the time.
I don't think I need to worry. This book was a rollicking good time: fun characters, decent plot, snappy dialogue, and much craziness. Sometimes you just need something fun to read. I'm glad I have at least six more of these books to supply that need!

Download Description
THE CABINET OF CURIOSITIES, like The Relic, takes place in and around New York's Museum of Natural History. FBI agent Pendergast, journalist Bill Smithback, and archaeologist Nora Kelly return in this harrowing thriller. The story begins with the gruesome discovery in downtown Manhattan of an underground charnel house containing the bones of dozens of murder victims. Research reveals that a serial killer was at work in New York's notorious Five Points neighborhood in the 1880s. But when a newspaper story on the old murders appears to spark a new series of horrifyingly similar killings, panic overtakes New York City, and far too many clues seem to lead to the conclusion that the original murderer may still be alive.
Customer Reviews:
You might not sleep well at night.......2007-09-16
A doctor turned serial killer on the loose in New York City, vivid descriptions of human dissection while the victim is still alive and conscious, a diabolical prescription for prolonging human life - not the sort of stuff I usually read. But this book was a gift, and so I began reading, thinking that after a few pages I'd set the book down for good. But I found myself being sucked into the dusty basement archives of the New York Museum of History where the mystery begins some 130 years prior, being sucked in and glued to the spot. The Cabinet of Curiosities is a very explicitly told tale, rich in texture, mood, and historical fact, with bizarre characters, some of whom readily fit the bill as whodunit suspects. So I read on, read about the terrible plight of a teenage girl in the nineteenth century, imprisoned by the mad doctor. Knowing she would soon die, she writes a note in her own blood and conceals it in the lining of her dress. 130 years later, the note comes to light when a gruesome charnel pit containing 36 bodies is unearthed revealing the heinous crime. Despite the ghastly subject matter, I could not put this damn book down. Authors Preston and Child are very skilled at their craft, conjuring up detailed imagery of the Cabinets, the dusty archives, the icy cold of the killer's laboratories. They keep the pace and tension going throughout. When all is said and done though, a few of the players of this large cast exit without giving the reader total satisfaction. The throwaway lines summing up the ridiculously stupid Captain Custer, for example, did not quite do it for me. Still, if you're looking for a well written page turner, this is definitely worth reading. Review by David Marsh, Sea Chest Books
Hang on for the ride!.......2007-09-14
After reading the first three pages of "The Cabinet of Curiosities", I rushed to the library and checked out every Preston/Child book there was. A week later, my family was sulking, the house was a wreck and I missed several events I was supposed to attend, but I'd finished all eight books. I still think it was a week well spent.
Not one book disappoints and each can stand alone. The plot twists are unpredictable even to this jaded reader, and for more than a few pages in more than a few books, the hair deliciously stood up on the back of my neck--a very rare experience for me.
These books have elements I always hope for but rarely find in contemporary fiction. They're smart! Bits of arcane trivia, hints of the supernatural, a cast of colorful and likeable characters, dark foreshadowings of evil to come and sometime FBI agent Aloysius Pendergast, who knows things no one else does--no, no, REALLY no one else does. Trust me when I say Aloysius Pendergast is worthy of comparison with Sherlock Holmes and Lord Peter Wimsey. While reminiscent of both, he's much more. The reader finds out...no, I'm sorry, you'll just have to read it yourself.
"The Cabinet of Curiosities" is THE perfect thriller, but every one of the Pendergast novels is great; each is very different from the others. Just don't start reading until you have time to finish--I'll be catching up on chores for weeks, though the family seems to have gotten over it.
Cabinet of Curiosities.......2007-08-24
Book arrived in excellent condition...I have not read the volume yet but am listening to an abridged version on tape and it's unusual, entertaining and very imaginative.
The fourth one I've read..........2007-06-25
Cabinet of Curiosities was the fourth book I've read by Preston and Child, and I'm reading my fifth one right now (Riptide). These guys know how to write gut-wrenching, stomach turning thrillers! FBI agent Pendergast, a great though unbelievably talented character, is back, although police detective D'Agosta is not in this one. As in the other books, Pendergast always escapes from hopeless situations, but that's no spoiler, since Preston and Child surely wouldn't kill off their best character.
For sheer suspense, I rate these authors on a par with Nelson DeMille. Cabinet of Curiosities can be pretty gruesome at times, and if you live alone, it's probably not the best choice for reading on a dark, stormy night unless you like being scared out of your wits.
If you've read other books by Preston and Child, Cabinet of Curiosities is as good or better than any of them. If you haven't read any of their books, I recommend starting with Relic and going through them in order so you can see the various characters introduced.
The horrors of a search for anti-aging secrets........2007-05-07
While preparing land for a development, the skeletons of children long dead are brought to light--buried within the walls of the foundation. The solution to the crimes involves the staff of the Museum of Natural History and a man's search for long life. Each chapter is a cliff hanger--it is impossible to put down once you begin! Look for its prequels as well.
Book Description
“'You will do foolish things' said the great writer Colette, 'but do them with enthusiasm!' And that, my darlings, I have done! So put your feet up, relax, and let me take you on one woman's journey through the beguiling, bewildering wilderness of romantic encounters, replete with puppy love, Latin love, smoldering lust, stardust, obsession, high comedy, high camp, and all manner of peccadilloes and misadventures. A rollicking, madcap ride through the wide-open countryside of love. Just watch out for land mines.”
--From My First Five Husbands . . . And the Ones Who Got Away
People always ask me if I'm like Blanche. And I say, 'Well, Blanche was an oversexed, self-involved, man-crazy, vain Southern Belle from Atlanta -- and I'm not from Atlanta!’” -- Rue McClanahan
Who can forget Rue McClanahan as the sexy Southern vixen, Blanche Devereaux, on the Emmy-award winning series The Golden Girls? With her breezy sex appeal and sharp comedic timing, Rue infused her character with a sassy joie de vivre that captured the hearts of audiences around the world. Now, the actress behind the magic reveals her life in and out of the spotlight in a laugh-out-loud funny memoir about love, marriage, men, and getting older that is every bit as colorful as the characters she plays.
Raised in small-town Oklahoma in a house “thirteen telephone poles past the standpipe north of town,” Rue developed her two great passions—theater and men—at an early age. She arrived in New York City in 1957 with two-weeks worth of money in her pocket, hustled her way into a class with the legendary Uta Hagen, and began working her way up in the acting world against the vibrant, free-spirited backdrop of the sixties. That’s when she met and married Husband #1—a handsome rogue of an aspiring actor who quickly left her with a young son. Still, she was determined to make it on the stage and screen—and in the years that followed, rose to the top of the entertainment world with a host of adventures (and husbands) along the way.
From her roles on Broadway opposite Dustin Hoffman and Brad Davis, to her first television appearances on Maude and All in the Family, to the Golden Girls era and beyond, My First Five Husbands is the irresistible story of one woman’s quest to find herself. Now happily married to Husband #6, Rue is proof that many things can and do get better with age—and that with tenacity, talent, and a little help from Saint Dymphna, even a small-town girl can make it big.
Told with Rue’s saucy wit and Southern charm, My First Five husbands is a deliciously entertaining take on life and love from an irrepressible star.
Customer Reviews:
Light hearted reading.......2007-08-23
I love Rue McClanahan and couldn't wait to get her book. It was a fun read and I did enjoy it but don't look for too much depth.
"Frippery combined with fierceness".......2007-07-14
I love "The Golden Girls" and couldn't wait to read Rue McClanahan's autobiography. She writes in a manically bubbly style, gushing over the highs and lows of a long show-biz career and a love-life so hot it would make even Blanche Devereaux blush.
Eddie Rue McClanahan was born into a conservative Oklahoma family during the Depression, and from an early age wanted desperately to be popular. Popular, to Rue, meant being loved and adored by men, and she was always falling in love too easily. She was a struggling stage actress in New York with two quick marriages and divorces under her belt when she met Norman Lear who began casting her in TV sitcoms. Two more divorces later, she landed the role of the man-hungry Blanche on "Golden Girls," The Golden Girls" The Golden Girls - The Complete First Season and world-wide fame. Breast cancer and husband number 5 bring her story up to date.
I was fascinated with Rue's unfailing optimism, her gritty determination to succeed as an actress, and her abysmally poor decisions when it came to men. I gave up counting how many affairs she had, and was appalled at how quickly she married and then lost interest in her husbands. Some were physically and emotionally abusive and some were just weird. Now in her seventies, Rue is still the ageless coquette, the belle of the ball. She names names and doesn't pull any punches in this book; Rue's fans won't be able to put it down.
Delightful.......2007-07-05
Excellent book to read for fun. I found this book very enlightening and couldn't wait to read in the evenings. Ms. McClanahan writes a totally honest and unbiased book and I'm amazed at all the twists and turns that she experienced in her career and person life. She tells the story like a true Golden Girl would tell it. However, she must have been busy constantly because 'The Golden Girls' show is only a small part of her career.
So much to love!.......2007-06-13
As someone who is 21 years old, I'm sure a lot of people are wondering why I'd be interested this book, but I absolutely adore Rue McClanahan and always have since I was little girl watching Golden Girls. This was a wonderful book. I enjoyed hearing about all of her experiences and revelations. She has a brilliant writing style and as someone mentioned before it is definitely like listening to great girl talk from one of your girlfriends! This was such a fun read and I'm sad I finished it in two days. I wish there was more to read!!! It deserves more than 5 stars. Thanks Rue for making me laugh for the past 18 years of my life!
Five Husbands and She Kept trying!.......2007-06-12
I am happy for Rue McClanahan who finally found happiness with number six, Morrow Wilson. They are happily living in New York City with their cat, Bianca. Rue's autobiography is touching as revealing. I never cared for Blanche as much as I cared for Vivan on Maude and Aunt Frances Crowley on Mama's Family. The book explained that Rue was having health problems which explained her absence from Mama's Family. Lucky for millions of others, they got to see her in the role of a lifetime playing Blanche Deveraux for eight seasons on the golden hit, The Golden Girls. It brought her international fame. It's a popular show around the world especially in England where even British sitcom stars like the late John Inman and Frank Thornton sing it's praises. I love Rue's almost tell-it-like it is biography. Her love for Brad Davis and many other lovers as well as the gay following of the Golden Girls which I didn't know there was until I read the book. She writes about her difficult labor with her only child, Mark, who she writes fondly and dedicates the book too. She doesn't mention Wicked on Broadway. She does not slight or offend any of her co-stars of the past. I wished there was a photo of her as Aunt Fran and Vivian on Maude. To me, she'll always be one or the other. I have seen Golden Girls enough and while I admire it's writing, acting, and the sensation that it caused on television. I still think Rue rather as Aunt Fran, the old maid journalist and aspiring writer. If Mama's Family hadn't been cancelled, Rue would still be playing Aunt Fran to Betty White's Ellen but I think the funniest thing was when Vicki Lawrence sent a male stripper to her hospital room when she was recovering as a present. It was something more of Blanche than of Aunt Fran.

Book Description
Here's another entry in our wildly popular series of very short stories that can be enjoyed, start to finish, in less time than it takes to brew a cup of tea. This new anthology of pleasingly brief tales features contributions from some of the best writers of erotica today. While most of the stories feature heterosexual sex, Five-Minute Erotica also offers a good mix of fantasy situations, including lesbian encounters and ménages à trois.

Short pornography.......2007-07-29
A good collection of short sexy iterludes. No plots, no characterization -- just sex! Great for a quick "change of pace" from other reading.
Short and Sweet.......2007-03-21
A very enjoyable book with bite size stories that don't waffle about with excess padding. The storyline is established and cuts to the action very quickly. It is a collection of erotic stories by different writers so each has a different style and feel about it. That is not a bad thing and on the whole most of the stories are excellent. The odd one, perhaps leaves you feeling a bit short, you feel they could have taken the bit in their teeth (or something else) and taken the story on a bit further, but on the whole it is very good. I found that it was a good book to open for a few minutes read to perk you up for the day. I particularly liked THE BOUNTY OF SUMMER by Carol Queen, that was very erotic story. I would highly recommend the book. Another book I would recommend that you have a look at, which has perhaps a stronger sexual content, is 100 PERCENT EROTICA by Suzie Van Aartman. This book could well become a classic in my opinion.
Good.......2007-01-15
This is good, it isn't overly racy...it is a little conservative and on the tame side, but also very polished and sophisticated.
I think that experienced readers of erotic romance novels would not be satisfied with this collection as the stories are three to four pages each and therefore don't build to a suspenseful crescendo. For readers searching for a tasteful introduction to erotica, this has some beautiful work and there is something for everyone and every age between it's pages.
Luke warm.... if your 80 yrs old!.......2006-06-14
Everyone's idea of erotica is different. Now that that is out of the way, this book sucked. Sure there was a couple of good stories but 99% was hot if you are an 80 yr old person. Erotica should get someone hot and rearing to go. This had me ready to go to bed, and sleep the rest of the night. B_O_R_I_N_G sums up this LAME book.
A good first foray into erotica.......2005-08-01
I have never been an erotica reader before, but my wife and I thought we'd try it. It has definately added something fun and a little naughty to our sex life. The first few stories are a little slow, but they pick up.
Book Description
Her Place at the Table is a practical guide for any woman dealing with a demanding role. Drawing on extensive interviews with women leaders, the authors isolate five key challenges.
- Intelligence -- to make informed decisions you need good information, but getting it can be a tricky proposition for women.
- Backing -- no one wants to take on a tough job without the support of major players, but you can't take those allies for granted.
- Resources -- allocations don?t always square with the results expected.
- Buy-In -- you can't lead if no one wants to follow, but bringing a team on board can be problematic.
- Making a Difference -- the value you create must be visible before it makes a difference.
Does she have the right stuff? That question follows women whenever they are promoted to visible leadership positions. Her Place at the Table lays out the pragmatic moves that can help any woman in business show she has the right stuff. I encourage all women with leadership aspirations to use this book as a guide.

From One Woman to Another.......2006-02-22
As a woman in corporate America, I found this book to be provide some extremely wonderful information. It was as if the authors had interviewed me directly to come up with those traps. Since completing the book, I have changed the way I approach projects, and have found the steps in the book to be extremely helpful! The format was so easy to follow, and I related to so much of the information-especially the common traps.
Her Place At The Table.......2005-04-17
I have been in the banking field for 25+ years. This book provides a framework to study the corporate culture. I found it very helpful and enjoyed the book.
Well done...a helping hand for women on the way UP!.......2005-03-16
In March 2005, I attended the Office Depot Women's Success Strategies program. Speaker Anne Mulcahy, CEO of Xerox, was asked a question about the focus on recently-resigned HP CEO Carly Fiorina. Anne said that the key to making gender a non-issue was to get more women in the boardrooms. Amen!
Also at the conference, panelist Carol Frohlinger shared solid negotiating tips with the attendees. Impressed, I bought this book. WOW! This information levels the playing field. Get out there. Decide what you want. And, GET IT in a win-win way. Thanks, Carol, Judith and Deborah for doing your part to help women get to the top floor.

Highly Recommended !.......2005-02-23
Women in leadership positions will thank authors Deborah M. Kolb, Judith Williams and Carol Frohlinger for their strategic advice. Their book, solidly based on the experiences of 100 women in leadership jobs, clearly identifies obstacles women face in gaining legitimacy as leaders. The authors explain how women executives' incorrect - and possibly unconscious - assumptions increase their troubles. The book teaches readers to make their assumptions explicit and to overcome obstacles with step-by-step deliberate solutions. For instance, the book counsels you to get as much information as you can before taking a new position, and then to really think about what you have learned. The main chapters enumerate five major ways to gain respect and credibility as a leader, but the authors also provide advice on negotiation and some relevant questions for job hunters to ask. Although it gets repetitive, the authors accompany the final outline of major points with specific recommendations you can implement. We recommend this book to women in business who want to move up, or who already have.
For the senior professional.......2005-01-22
This book is strictly for senior professionals, which is a plus for VP's, SVP's and C-level women looking for input on their level. It focuses on women already in leadership roles and is at both times inspirational and instructional. Real-life anecdotes keep it from being simply a textbook read and I really, really liked the roadmap in Appendix A which outlines "common traps" and "strategic moves."

A good variety of talented women.......2007-03-21
A really good selection of women involved in the graffiti scene, that documents a portion of each of their work well.
Altho their are a few obvious female writers that are missing from this book, like Misery, Diva or Barbara and Eva 62, the book generally covers a good selection of writers and has some awesome coverage of some of their work!
An awesome book highly recommended!

Best-selling author Alice Starmore combines style, practicality, and the mystery of the Celtic spirit in this gorgeous collection of knitwear designs.
Customer Reviews:
So many Sweaters, So Little Time.......2007-09-30
Alice Starmore is truly a design genius. Don't be fooled by the visual complexity and subtlety of these designs. With few exception, they are all knit with two strands of yarn at a time. She uses between 6 and 20+ various shades in various color palettes and makes tapestry rich sweaters a knockout. Follow her color recommendations or design your own, you won't be disappointed in the results. Stranded on a desert island, I would take this book, my needles and a boatload of yarn!
Knit something glorious.......2007-04-25
I actually have two copies of this book. The first was purchased more than 15 years ago, and is a much loved / slightly tattered hardcover. I recently received the paperback version as a gift to replace my much-used original.
I love patterns that have either lots of colorwork, or lots of texture. This is why I learned to knit in the first place. This book is heavily skewed towards color work. I have been making the sweaters from this book for various relatives for many years, and am currently working on a sweater full of celtic creatures for my daughter. You can also transpose some of the designs, such as the entwined dragons from the back of a child's sweater onto other projects as long as you keep the stitches even on either side.
If you look at the guages, you can substitute available yarns for the yarns listed in the book. Consider the colors and yarn selections in the photographs as "suggestions" and you will free yourself to make some personalized choices.
Warning: In the years since this book was published, some of the patterns have become dated. This is mostly due to the shape of the sweaters and ever changing fashion trends.
Have I mentioned that I love this book? I can't imagine not having it to reach for when the urge to knit something glorious strikes.
Beautiful book -- buy it while you can!.......2007-02-26
This is my first Alice Starmore book. I heard about her on a knitting forum site. I believe this is the only Alice Starmore book that is still in print. It is a lovely book and lives up to the high expectations raised about Alice Starmore designs on the knitting site. The beautiful sweaters are photographed on models in breathtaking natural scenery. It's a knitting book and travel book under one cover.
Her designs are based on traditional motifs seen on Irish jewelry and in illustrations in old Irish manuscripts. The colors are either beautifully subtle or strikingly bold.
I have found out why this is the only one of her books in print. There is a controversy surrounding Alice and her daughter Jade (which I will not attempt to explain) which explains why her other books will probably never be reprinted and no new books of knitting designs will be written by her. So buy this beautiful Alice Starmore book for a great price from Amazon while you still can!
A visual feast!.......2006-03-24
I got this book on a whim, not knowing much about what patterns I'd find within. When it arrived in the mail, I pored over all the beautiful things inside and then brought it to my knitting class that night. My knitting friends are all jealous and have found patterns they want to make too - but the work is pretty advanced. There are some lovely color patterns, some cable ones - just gorgeous - but not for the faint of heart. I like that there are some for children as well. The photos are stunningly beautiful and I know I'll get a lot of use out of this book.
A very good Alice Starmore book still in print.......2006-03-21
Alice Starmore is a very artistic and creative designer. Her out of print titles go for prices of $100-$700 on ebay, so order ths one while it is in print! Beatiful pictures and sweater designs with many shaded colors.
Book Description
The Seven Addictions and Five Professions of Anita Berber is the first contemporary biography of a notorious actor/dancer/poet/playwright who scandalized sex-obsessed Weimar Berlin during the 1920s.
In an era where everything was permitted, Anita Berber's celebrations of "Depravity, Horror and Ecstasy" were condemned and censored. She often haunted Weimar Berlin's hotel lobbies, nightclubs and casinos, radiantly naked except for an elegant sable wrap, a pet monkey hanging from her neck, and a silver brooch packed with cocaine. Multi-talented Anita saw no boundaries between her personal life and her taboo-shattering performances. As such, she was Europe's first postmodern woman.
Among those Anita Berber claimed as members of her vast sexual harem were Marlene Dietrich, Magnus Hirschfeld (the founder of modern sexology and gay liberation), Klaus Mann, Conrad Veidt, Lawrence Durrell, and the King of Yugoslavia. Berber acted in Fritz Lang's Dr. Mabuse: The Gambler and starred in the silent epic, Lucifer. Even Leni Riefenstahl credits Berber for inspiring her controversial career. After sated Berliners finally tired of Anita Berber's libidinous antics, she became a "carrion soul that even the hyenas ignored," dying in 1928 at the age of 29.
The Seven Addictions and Five Professions of Anita Berber chronicles a remarkable career, including over 150 photographs and drawings that recreate Anita's enduring "Repertoire of the Damned."
Customer Reviews:
The career story of actor, dancer, poet, and sex culture icon Anita Berber.......2006-09-12
The Seven Addictions And Five Professions Of Anita Berber: Weimar Berlin's Priestess Of Depravity is the career story of actor, dancer, poet, and sex culture icon Anita Berber, who scandalized Weimar Berlin by appearing naked in nightclubs and casinos save for a sable wrap. Her performance in Expressionist films, her disregard of all taboos and her drug habits all contributed to a life devoted to casting off restraints. Dozens of black-and-white photographs and drawings recreating Anita's "Repertoire of the Damned" illustrate this one-of-a-kind tell-all of Europe's first postmodern woman.
"She was the most remarkable spirit that I ever met in the weird underworld of human sexuality.".......2006-09-10
Author Mel Gordon details a glittering, decadent Weimar Berlin in the book, "The Seven Addictions and Five Professions of Anita Berber: Weimer Berlin's Priestess of Depravity." Post WWI Berlin "became the world showcase of nude dance and the erotic revue-sketch", and with the catastrophic devaluation of the German Mark, "moral degeneration" reigned in a city that rapidly became a metropolis of exotic, erotic cabaret performances. During her brief, explosive career Anita Berber was Weimar Berlin's "most widely discussed female personality." She performed to packed theatres, outraging her audiences, sharply dividing critics, and shocking society with the scandals that surrounded her both on and off stage. With her perfect, lithe body, dancer and performance artist Anita Berber reigned supreme.
Gordon charts the meteoric rise and tragic fall of the notorious dancer. During her short, brilliant, and self-destructive life, she earned many names, and was called a "totally perverted woman", the "Madonna of Dresden", the "Countess of Sin", "a living embodiment of sin", and "an incarnation of the perverse." Gordon offers the reader a portrait of a difficult life--fraught with public scandal, private demons, and an avant-garde approach to dance that brought Berber the wrong sort of audience. Gordon argues that the very audience who flocked to Berber for her scandalous naked dances could not appreciate the artistic relevance of her performances, and thus heckled--and ultimately abused her.
Gordon tracks Berlin's long-standing tradition with Naked Dance as an art form and traces Berber's career from her early dance training to German Expressionist Richard-Oswald films. But it was Berber's ability to dance that brought Berlin--at least temporarily--to her feet.
The book examines Berber's disastrous relationship with petty criminal, con man, and fellow dancer--Sebastian Droste. Included are details of Droste's post-Berber career in America and his membership in a notorious New York sex cult. The major scandals in Berber's life are examined--her three husbands, her affairs with the sexually obsessed Gerda and her daughter Elsa, and the "lovesick" Baroness Leonie Puttkamer-Gessmann. Berber's health steadily declined as her various addictions grew uncontrollable, and she rapidly became a "creative liability" on stage--even whacking a businessman over the head with a bottle of champagne one evening.
The book also serves as a glimpse into artistic life of Weimar Berlin--and there are mentions here of many notables--including Leni Riefenstahl (she was Berber's understudy for one engagement), Conrad Veidt, Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld, Marlene Dietrich, and Fritz Lang. The text is peppered with marvelous photographs, posters and graphics depicting various Berber routines (including the Dances of Depravity, Horror, and Ecstasy). Additional materials follow the text--including poems by Berber and Droste, synopses of Berber's dance performances, and a bibliography. It's sadly ironic that Anita Berber--who once was so infamous--has now almost disappeared, and it is a particular joy for those interested in Berber (me) that Mel Gordon wrote this work on a much-neglected artist. For more on the life of Anita Berber, I recommend the film "Anita: Dances of Vice" by Rosa von Praunheim--displacedhuman
