Mostly T&A.......2006-11-08
My book oddly enough looks different. Its all pink and different picture. Better in my opinion. Anyhow, as far as the book... well it is lacking terribly. I am a stickler about love stories (especially lesbian and sometimes gay ones.) But mostly every story in this is just a 1,2,3 kick formula. Girl Meets Girl. Girls realise they are lesbians. Girls do it. Move on to next chapter. That's it basically. There are a few stories that are pretty good, but nothing on the tier of the ones i've read in love shook my heart. Even on the t&a department its pretty bland.
Basically it just wasn't what i was looking for. I wanted something that was sweet, loving, and maybe a little kinky at the right spots. not just something that says, "I'm a feminist now give me nipple!" There are a few nice stories in this. It's barely worth buying. But be prepared to do a lot of skimming. Also my biggest problem about series like this is that well... if you really like one... you only get a taste. but o well.
Reassuring - but not for bisexual women!.......2005-06-27
As a straight woman - who also happens to be bisexual - I was anxiously looking forward to sampling this book's contents. I was drawn by the title, "My Lover, My Friend" which rekindled for me memories of my own experiences.
As someone who has also struggled to resolve my own same-sex yearnings, I was looking forward to reading about other women's journeys - to see if any of them had taken paths similar to my own. I suppose I was also seeking some reassurances as to the choices I had made. And, in my wildest dreams, I was hoping that the book might offer some advice for me and other women - such as how to balance our enjoyment of women with other aspects of our normal heterosexual lives.
As background, this book is a series of first person accounts by women who eventually find companionship with a close female friend. As such, this message flies in the face of conventional wisdom which warns us that "love ruins friendships." And in the case of woman-to-woman intimacy, I would think that the potential for irreparably harming one's friendships is even greater.
In my own case, after fruitlessly exploring other avenues, I eventually found success when I violated this same tenet - and started to view my friends (some of whom were my closest) as possible lovers. To say that this took a while to pull off would be an understatement. But afterwards, not only did I not lose my dearest soul mates - our friendships are now much stronger than ever before!
I guess I didn't realize it when I selected it, but this book is mainly about women who are lesbians. Even so, I was surprised to discover how much different it means to be bisexual - and how so little of this book proved useful to me.
Although the erotic portions of the stories were tastefully written and mildly arousing, the life situations of the authors had a remarkable sameness - which made the outcomes almost painfully predictable. Most of the subjects lived in - or near the fringes - of the lesbian community. Some of the women weren't lesbians to begin with (and several had been previously married). But almost all of the friends (or best friends) who assisted each woman in her transition - were already lesbians! (Hey, where's the surprise or discovery in that?)
Besides the seemingly preordained nature of each story's outcome, there also seemed to be an underlying (monochromatic) message saying that once you sleep with a women - that you eventually need to marry her (or at least commit yourself exclusively to her).
I found myself admiring those individuals who managed to find true love with someone of the same sex - and who then had the conviction to pursue a relationship with them for numerous years. But sexuality for me (and my friends) isn't nearly so black and white.
For me, being bisexual means that I acknowledge the strong attraction I have for other women. But that doesn't mean that I want to give up my traditional heterosexual life -- in order to fulfill it!
In all fairness, this book is probably very reassuring to those women who want to become lesbians.
But for those like me who want to satisfy that same-sex hunger -- while not being totally consumed by it - this book, unfortunately, was not very helpful.

Book Description
Every person longs to be loved, to believe someone cares for them more than life itself. By weaving the rich imagery of a wedding throughout the text, in Lover of My Soul the reader is reminded that Christ the Bridegroom loves them deeply and completely - that He gave His life as payment for their eternal joy. In the same way every bride appears as a radiant beauty on her wedding day and every groom is handsome and strong, Christ presents His all-satisfying love to anyone who will take His hand in a spiritual marriage of the heart.

Fantastic.......2007-02-02
I laughed. I cried. Some of the stories felt as if they were written just for me. I shared it with members of my congregation. How wonderful to take Scripture and relate it to today.
See how God sees you..........2005-11-09
I have bought at least 20 copies of this book in the past 5 years. I can never usually keep them, because I am always running into people who want a copy too. This book is in my top 3 favorite life changing books ever. If you really want to get a grasp at how God loves you in a way that isn't talked about much....this book is for you! You won't be able to put it down!
I'm not a typical reader, but this is a GREAT BOOK........2000-07-26
This book was referred to me by an encouraging friend. I am a college student and my upbringing stems from a very spiritual background. As a student away from my family, my lifestyle isn't always modeled after my upbringing. I recommend this book to everyone, regardless of your background. The author uses realistic situations that help you understand the daily walk with God's love. The author is very down-to-earth, understanding, sarcastic, and captivating enough to keep me reading until the very last chapter. The chapters are short, always related to a real-life situations, and always end with a significant message. If you're looking for a book to put your walk with God into perspective, you've found it! I encourage anyone to read Lover of my Soul.
The Heart of the Gospel.......2000-06-07
This book gets at the heart of the gospel better than all the others. Writings on God's grace which we have seen alot of - are secondary to this - the real heart of the matter. God's love -intimate, powerful, expansive and expensive, the only real power to change our lives.
Lover of My Soul, Alan D. Wright.......2000-03-08
Absolutely one of the best books I've read. I cannot keep a copy in my collection because I'm always giving them away. Fabulous words of encouragement and wisdom to Christians reminding us of how much God loves us and desires to be the true LOVER OF OUR SOUL! A must read for believers (and non-believers alike)! Will definitely minister to those who know Christ (and will encourage those who don't to dig deeper)! God bless you all!

Book Description
An irresistible memoir for anyone who's ever wondered what's coming next...
Kimberlee Auerbach has been in therapy. She's seen a Reiki Master. She's even given hypnosis a try. They can't give her want she wants... to know her future is going to be bright, that everything will be okay. So she makes an appointment with Iris Goldblatt, "tarot card reader and mirror of the soul." Instead of predicting the future, each card sparks a memory: like the time Kimberlee tried to be wild, and caught crabs from an Argentine painter; or the night her father "proposed" at Morton's Steakhouse (presenting her with an engagement ring for her boyfriend to use); or the moment Kimberlee found the strength to kick out her freeloading ex. In a Wizard of Oz-like twist of fate, Kimberlee realizes she had the answers all along-that's it's not about looking to the future, it's about trusting yourself along the way.
Exuberantly alive and refreshingly candid, The Devil, The Lovers & Me, will take you on a journey down one woman's path, only to reflect yours back. You, too, will see yourself in the cards ... The Devil, The Lovers, even the Fool.
Customer Reviews:
Funny, Insightful, and Honest.......2007-10-10
Borders really should not have this book in the Tarot section. It's more of a self-help type memoir, though I did like the way she used the tarot cards to tell her story.
Each chapter begins with a Tarot card and as the author describes how this card is relevant in her life, you can't help but think of how it is relevant in yours. I found myself analyzing my own childhood and relationship with my parents. It's not one of those corny, whiny self-help books and there's just enough humor to remind you how important it is to laugh at yourself sometimes. The author delivers her story in a way that makes you feel that she has learned, from experience, that being a victim is often a choice.
A Comrade in Kimberlee.......2007-09-26
I loved reading this book! I was up until 2am every night reading it. My only regret is that I whipped through it so fast that now I miss Kimberlee. Her voice is so charming and honest, her reflections and analysis so insightful that you can't help but be thoroughly entertained while you are learning. She has clearly done a lot of work on her journey of self-awareness, and we readers are the benefactors. She expressed so many of my inner-most thoughts that I've never been able to articulate; I I felt that she was my comrade in arms. In fact, I felt so connected and inspired that after finishing the book one Saturday morning, I literally jumped out of bed with more positive energy than I've had in a LONG time, cranked the music, and started cleaning my apartment, ready to continue the journey.
funny and wise.......2007-09-22
This book is hilarious, insightful and moving. There are morsels of wisdom hidden in the pages...after reading it in one sitting during a rainy night while I was on vacation I felt as if I had made a journey within my journey. The connection to the tarot cards doesn't require a leap of faith -- the lessons in each card are in the memories they trigger and the stories they evoke. A beautifully written book by a gifted storyteller.
A MUST READ! .......2007-09-19
Kimberlee Auerbach's book is magically honest, insightful, and hilarious. She reveals those vulnerable moments in life that make you cringe and laugh all at the same time. I admire the honesty of the stories with their uncensored wit and at times her shocking discoveries! It's a quick and fun read -- and an exceptional journey on loving, living, and moving on.
What a pleasure.......2007-09-18
What a pleasure to read this book. Just when you think there are one too many memoirs on the market...you find this little gem. It's more than a memoir; Kimberlee is a natural storyteller, so the book reads just as beautifully bit by bit as it does as a full narrative. Really genuine, really heartfelt, terribly funny, and truly hopeful. Buying it for many many friends and loved ones.

Book Description
Faith Willinger has spent three decades exploring Italy, traveling from the Alps to Sicily to visit its artistic and architectural wonders and track down the best restaurants, regional cooks, winemakers, and food markets. Along the way, she’s made many friends, eaten lots of tasty meals, and collected a wealth of authentic Italian recipes. Now, in Adventures of an Italian Food Lover, she pays tribute to her friends and to the food and wine she’s enjoyed in their company. If you plan to visit Italy, you can use this book as a guide to finding some of Willinger’s favorite places, from tiny shops stocked with foods available nowhere else in the world, to outdoor markets overflowing with an incredible variety of fish, cheese, fruit, and vegetables, to great restaurants in big cities and small villages. If you can’t travel to Italy as soon as you’d like to, Willinger’s recipes from real Italian kitchens, her warm, engaging profiles of the cooks who perfected them, and her sister’s charming watercolors of Italian friends and scenery beautifully evoke the essence of this enchanting country.
The recipes all start with great ingredients—extra virgin olive oil, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, heirloom wheat pasta, salt-packed capers, and other Italian pantry favorites—and use the freshest meat, fish, and seasonal produce. Willinger’s friend and neighbor in Florence shares her recipe for the delicious home-style Turnips and Their Greens with Garlic and Chili Pepper; the chef-owner of a bustling Neapolitan trattoria combines the freshest ingredients from the sea and the field in his Pasta with Mussels and Zucchini Flowers; and a Milanese marketing consultant who inherited his family’s vineyard in Le Marche and started an enological revolution in the region provides the recipe for the rustic Polenta with Tomato Sauce and Sausage Ragù he often serves to guests in the elegant formal dining room of his art deco villa.
Part cookbook, part travelogue, Adventures of an Italian Food Lover is an insider’s guide that will bring the best of Italy into your home and into your heart.

As much fun to browse through as to cook from.......2007-10-07
"Adventures Of An Italian Food Lover: With Recipes From 254 Of My Very Best Friends" by chef, cooking teacher, and food detective Faith Heller Willinger is a veritable showcase of Italian cuisine shared within the context of Italian culture and sensory experiences. Featuring more than 110 superbly presented and authentic Italian dishes, the 'kitchen cook friendly' recipes range from Leek and Sausage Orzotto; Roast Veal Shank; and Pear Cake with Grappa Sauce; to Spaghetti with Parmigiano-Reggiano and Armando's Extra Virgin; Tuscan Brownies; and Pasta with Mussels and Zucchini Flowers. But what makes "Adventures Of An Italian Food Lover" stand out among other Italian cookbooks are the personal anecdotal stories about the mean and women from whom these simply wonderful recipes were obtained. As much fun to browse through as to cook from, "Adventures Of An Italian Food Lover" is confidently recommended for personal and community library ethnic cookbook collections.
A delight for the eye and the traveller. Weak for the average cook........2007-08-14
`Adventures of an Italian Food Lover' is by Faith Heller Willinger, a member in very good standing of that informal woman's society of writers on Italian cuisine, having done two previous excellent books on the subject. With this book, she joins fellow society members, Lydia Bastianich and Biba Gaginau in writing a very personal recipe cum travelogue cum memoir volume focusing on her personal experiences with food in Italy. All three of these ladies are superb writers on their subject, so one may expect comparable quality from all three, but that is not the case. At the very least, Ms. Willinger's volume will have a somewhat smaller audience for two reasons.
First, her memoir and travelogue content is much higher than with Madame Biba and Madame Lydia. This has a lot to offer for those who wish to do a culinary tour of Italy. I've personally experienced some culinary disasters even in Miss Faith's very own adopted home town of Florence, where I had a meal at a family run Trattoria which was simply horrible. Not every door to a culinary establishment in Italy will lead to pleasantly memorable food. Willinger spends much ink on describing her culinary friends from whom she acquired these recipes.
Second, unlike Biba and Lydia, Willinger's choice of recipes is highly idiosyncratic. The two other ladies both limit themselves to selected cities and regions in Italy, but within those regions, they tend to select a set of recipes which are highly representative of the regions. In the case of Bastianich, this is especially interesting since most of her regions are on the borders of Italy, where the cuisine is heavily influenced by Austria, France, and North Africa.
These two considerations are no reflection on this book's quality, but only on the people to whom it will most appeal, which is simply not everyone in the market for a good Italian cookbook. There are two other aspects of the book which seriously tell against the book's quality in general.
First, there are outright mistakes. The very first recipe in the book for `gnocco fritto' cites active dry yeast as an ingredient and gives instructions for blooming the yeast, but then, the yeast is never added to the flour, and the dough is made sans leavening!
Second, the recipe descriptions have a high degree of variability in the level of detail. Many things about which most cookbook writers are compulsively exact, Ms. Willinger leaves to our judgment, such as the size of eggs to use. For relatively experienced cooks, this is no bother. Anyone who has enjoyed the epigrammatic recipes in Elizabeth David's `A Book of Mediterranean Food' will have no problem with these, but people who like every detail specified may find some bits of information left to the judgment of the reader.
It is very important to say that this book is still very valuable to dedicated foodies of the Italian flavor. By being very personal, it gives a wealth of recipes which one will not find in the standard manuals. And, one of my biggest disappointments is the slip on the `gnocco fritto' recipe cited above, as I've never seen this recipe in any other book, even in the encyclopedic `The Silver Spoon', at least not under that name. Most especially, if you plan to travel in Italy, especially in Tuscany, I recommend the book as a great guide to reliable eateries.
I must also say that this book has a charm about it not found in many books, due to the great warmth of the author's writing and the lovely original water color illustrations by Suzanne Heller. These alone make the book a worthwhile armchair recreation.

Book Description
From famous writers and personalities who call the city home, whether by birth or simply love, these pieces written in the wake of Hurricane Katrina serve as a timeless tribute to New Orleans.
Sentimental, joyful, and witty, these essays by celebrated writers, entertainers, chefs, and fans honor the life of one of America's most beloved cities.
Paul Prudhomme writes about the emotional highs New Orleans inspires, Wynton Marsalis exalts his native city as soul model for the nation, while Walter Isaacson shares his vision for preserving his hometown's pentimento magic. Stewart O'Nan recalls the fantasy haze that enshrouded his first trip to the Big Easy when he was thirty and bowed to Richard Ford to receive his first literary prize. Poppy Z. Brite thanks New Orleans for helping her discover the simple pleasure of Audubon Park's egrets, and Elizabeth Dewberry explores what it means to work Bourbon Street as a stripper.
My New Orleans captures the spirit of the city that was -- and that will be again.
Customer Reviews:
A Milestone or an Epitaph?.......2006-03-03
MY NEW ORLEANS is a compilation of essays and a few poems about the Big Easy. Most were written post Katrina. The lead poem, "Nasty Water" by James Nolan, however, first published in 1997, is hauntingly prophetic. The authors, ranging from Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Olen Butler to restaurant owners Leah Chase and Ella Brennan, are united in their love for the city. And therein rests the beauty of this book. There are no questions or answers, no pointed fingers, no predictions or solutions. Here are multiple points of view by natives and lovers of a city that is different, yet they point in the same direction - love of place, and a worry. Is Katrina a milestone or an epitaph?

The Perfect Dog-Lover Book.......2007-03-26
I first discovered this book about 8 years ago. At that time, I purchased several copies and quickly gave them to my closest dog-lover friends. Since then, I have given this book to three friends upon the loss of their dog. I am so impressed with this book because of the content and the format. It not only sheds new light on the faithfulness and simple inner beauty of dogs, but causes one to contemplate one's own inner self. It provides both humor and comfort. It is such a poignant book that it will touch anyone who values their dog, whether the reader is a Christian (as is the author) or not. Two of the people I gave this book to were not Christians and absolutely loved reading and receiving it. It is easy to read, and will be read repeatedly over time by any owner. What My Dog Has Taught Me About Life: Meditations for Dog Lovers
Heartwarming and Beautifully Written...Great Gift for Dog Lovers!!.......2006-12-20
I began reading this before bed one night and couldn't stop...this book is riveting! Dog and animal lovers NEED this book. The incredibly heartwarming and powerful short stories read like devotionals. If you have ever given your heart to a dog, you really must buy a copy of this book and have a box of tissues ready when you begin reading. You will most certainly learn or recall life lessons too valuable to forget.
Just Listen To What Your Dog Is Telling You.......2000-11-25
A few minutes ago, I finished Mr. Stanley's book. I had wondered if there were others who learned from those special dogs who are insightful, attentive, intelligent and totally devoted. Obviously, Gary Stanley is one of those, and he communicates so well the blessings of sharing life with another of God's creatures.
God's Wisdom from His Creatures.......2000-01-26
My mother is a friend of the author, and for a while in 1999, she took care of "Griffin", one of the dogs described in this book. She talked often about his remarkable face and demeanor, and raved about Mr. Stanley's stories. Twice now I have been amazed at how right she is-- Griffin is an amazing dog-- he can look at you in a way that almost goes through you. And then to see that translated into these short stories is just amazing. "The Dog Who Walk Himself" has much to teach us, even though he probably doesn't know he's doing it. As this book shows us, God has many ways of teaching us His lessons. I think even my cat-loving self can agree with that!
Hilarious, Inspirational.......2000-01-14
I just finished reading this book and discovered an abundance of chuckles and many insights about my own life.

These romantic, sensual, poignant, and humorous poems courageously describe lesbian experience in a way that pays tribute to the diverse and complex nature of women's sexuality.
Book Description
Editor Lesléa Newman has collected the work of both well-known and emerging poets to create an anthology of some of the finest writers of any gender or sexual orientation writing poetry today. The probing fierceness of Adrienne Rich's "Love Poem," the stirring sensual incantation of Ellen Bass's "Praise," the intensely felt tenderness of Dorothy Allison's "Reason Enough to Love You," are just a few examples of the rich talent displayed in this volume.
These poets have written daring confessions of love, sorrow, anger, and joy. Each poem is an elaborate confirmation of the resilience of the human spirit, and the ability to transform experience--including the struggle against the societal taboo of same-sex love--into brilliant poetry.
Customer Reviews:
Lyrical! Passionate! Exquisite!.......2004-04-15
WOW!!! This book is amazing. I don't usually care much for poetry, as I often find it dull or impossible to relate to. But this poetry was beautiful and moving. I could hardly put it down, wanting to wallow more in the luscious words, but at the same time I wanted to save the poems, to make the experience last as long as possible. The experience did last - I have read these poems over and over again, and each time I love and appreciate them more.
One of the things that struck me about this collection, aside from the beauty of the language and images, was how different the poems are. They don't get jumbled together or become dull. Even though they are all linked by a single theme - the love shared between two women - the individual themes of the poems are strikingly diverse, including heart attacks, palsy, long-distance relationships, racism, pregnancy and menopause, and death. Even these sometimes hard and painful realities are approached with a beauty that makes the hardship captivating rather than distressing. And many of the poems have a light tone, even playful, and tender. There are poems about old women and young, black and white and asian, married and untouched. Poems for every woman in the world.
Every woman, regardless of sexual preference, should read this book!
Wow........2002-11-04
This is one of my favorite poetry collections. Oh, how much love, passion, laughter and tears are within these pages. I read it, front to back, in a day. I couln't put it down. What wonderful words to read and inspire a heart with love.
A feast of poetry and passion.......2002-02-13
An outstanding anthology of poetry from some incredible writers who compose with both skill and
passion. Renditions of moments of love, disappointment, yearning, and frustration with those
inevitable irritations we all run into occasionally.
"In Praise" is spectacular. I laughed out loud reading "AT&T," dedicated to all those couples in
long-distance relationships-- who among us hasnt had to deal with that on occasion? "Undertow"
was so riveting you could feel the impact from the language, and it has a unique verse structure to
boot. "He Na Tye Woman" practically needed musical accompaniment. But my fave has to be
Cookery. Any of you who love making up recipes and cooking up surprises for your lover will
absolutely relish this one-- a must-read! I started buying the ingredients for the "chunks of red
pepper," "herbal cream sauce," "coriander flecked carrots," etc. the moment after reading this
poem. I promise this collection will have leave quite an impression on you.
Incredibly Powerful, One of the best anthologies.......2000-05-04
I love poetry and this is one of the best anthologies I have ever read. The poems are moving, sensual beyond description, earthy, humorous, sexy, and very intense. It seems that women writing about other women convey a depth and beauty that I have not often found in heterosexual poetry. Highly recommended for anyone who loves great poetry.
Sweet, tender, fierce.......1999-12-21
I've never been that fond of poetry, having rarely seen myself reflected in the words of others, but I found something very familiar in these pages. The style, tone, and topic of these poems vary wildly and allow each reader a chance to recognize some small part of herself. It is a wonderfully reassuring and empowering experience to find that there really are so many people who hear, share, and are able to reflect your voice. I chose this book on the power of Leslea Newman's name alone and was not disapointed. I am now pleased to have other writers to follow.

Book Description
Part love story, part indictment, debut novel Outline of My Lover traces our society's damaging obsession with celebrity.
In the sleepy town of Athens, Georgia, a young man goes off to a college miseducation and is drawn into a world of rich vicarious living. The unspoken relationship between this adolescent and his luminous rock star boyfriend fast becomes the marking tale of world tours and plush continental hotel rooms. However, the relationship falters under celebrity's harsh, shape-shifting light. Real life fills in the outline of the boy's expectations.
Customer Reviews:
Outline's fantastic........2007-04-18
This book is transgrassive and entirely ahead of its time. People are probably better able to understand the concepts it explores now that we are subjected to so much celebrity news. We can see how seductive the life is, how expensive the giftbags are and how much better people think you are of you're famous. Mr. Martin's book has beautiful, careful prose and gorgeous passages. His writing takes you right there.
This books is an amazing accomplishment.
Outline Of A Loss: A Moving First Novel.......2006-02-08
Douglas Martin in this his first novel has created characters and situations that are as real as your best friend's (or your own) real life experiences. Every page in this short work that you should read in one sitting cries out the truth. The narrator grows up in less than a perfect family, to put it mildly, goes off to college-- a state college in Georgia-- and falls in love with an older celebrity singer who is never named. Most of the story is about that relationship. The narrator is pretty sure from day one that he will not grow old with this man. There are too many things standing in their way. The singer must protect his reputation and certainly could never have an open relationship with this man (although he does keep him supplied with expensive bed linens) so the narrator travels with the singer's group of friends and would be the unnamed person in a group photo. Starved for love and affection ("He [the singer] will never need anyone like I have always needed someone"), the narrator's own self-esteem is determined by his lover. "I am some attachment, someone hanging on to him."
Some of the most touching passages are about the unraveling of this couple's relationship. The lover, for example, cuts short a trip in order to be present for their anniversary but brings a gift to the narrator that he picked up at the airport.
The social workers among us will find enough about this hopeless relationship to write papers about. The rest of us, however, will marvel that Mr. Martin has written a searing love story that goes right to the heart. I suspect that most readers, if they are honest with themselves, will see at least glimpses of people and events from their own lives. After all, isn't that what good writing should do?
Lovely, Sad & Quiet.......2005-01-18
My opinion finds this book to be fascinating and depressing at once. Everyone seems to know who Douglas Martin is writing about and so the glimpse into that world, the world of famous rock stars who travel the world, initially attracted me and drew me in. But knowing that it is true and that the author was treated so cheaply by his lover in the end made me very sad. Nothing more than a glorified groupie. I agree that he is often whiny and melodramatic but that works fine from my standpoint. First, he was very young when the events took place so it isn't so different than reading a young girl's secret diary. Second, the writing itself is very spare, not florid, so it never sinks to the level of a teenager's badly written purple prose. I wish him to try his hand at a more fictional work next time and apply his beautiful writing style to a story that will excite more than merely prurient interest. A lovely, sad, quiet book.
Minimalistic and Haunting.......2003-11-13
I found this book on a remainder table and really thought it had been put there by mistake. Maybe Australian readers weren't ready for such honesty? Martin's words stay with you because there are so few of them, and he chooses them so carefully. The themes of sexuality, romance and family relationships are interwoven with such dexterity, it is difficult to believe that this is the author's debut! The lack of a discernable climax is forgivable - it simply adds power to the author's minimalistic voice.
sensitive.......2001-12-29
this is an excellent very sensitive book. i wouldnt rank it as a classic, but i do think that it is exceptionally frank and shows a sensitivity hard to find both in books and in people. i lent this book to a number of my friends. they all thought this is one of the best books they read in a while.

If you love horses...........2005-08-03
I bought this book for a gift for my mother in law and she absolutely loves it. When at a party at her house I noticed that lots of people picked up the book and flipped through it with many of them actually reading some it.
A Passion for Cindy Hale's Books!.......2004-03-19
Again we are treated to Cindy Hale's colorful prose, which puts you right there with the horses and tugs at your heartstrings. So often we - the horse-crazy - need to explain to others just why we are consumed with love for our gentle giant equine friends, and are at a loss for words. This book explains it like no other.
A Passion For Horses had me laughing, smiling and crying as I read through it all, especially reading about the brave Kathy Havens, who - a fighter to the end - didn't let something like stomach cancer get in the way of her time with her dear chestnut friend Bud. And the retirement ceremony of Pam Mahony's legenday Valor, who is still remembered fondly as one of those Once In A Lifetime Horses, and who will never be forgotten by those who saw him in the show ring.
Cindy and Sharon, thank you again for touching our hearts. I look forward to your next book with eager anticipation!
Speaks from the horselover's heart.......2004-03-19
I truly enjoyed reading about these everyday horselovers who have made horses the focal point of their lives. Some of the chapters made me cry because they were so very touching. Other times I laughed. Photos were great, too. Highly recommended for anyone who loves horses or animals.
Beautifully written and so true!.......2004-03-18
this is my second Cindy Hale purchase and I was as pleased if not more so than the first. This book chronicles the passion and love that defies logic at times. Truly a wonderful book which I will recommend to others without hesitation.
