Blind dates give everyone the shivers...with or without a murder attached to them. Jo Tulip is a sassy single woman full of household hints and handy advice for every situation. Her first romantic outing in months is a blind date—okay, the Hall of Fame of Awful Blind Dates—but things go from bad to worse when the date drops dead and Jo finds herself smack in the middle of a murder investigation.
With the help of her best friend, Danny, and faith in God, Jo attempts to solve one exciting mystery while facing another: Why is love always so complicated?
Customer Reviews:
An even better read than the first.......2007-07-07
Blind Dates Can be Murder. Just from the title alone you can tell you're in for a good read. I found the second installment in the Smart Chick Mystery series to be better than the first. Though, the story still drags a bit in the beginning, the pace quickens earlier. Plus Danny is planning on telling Jo that he loves her!! Danny is such a sweet and endearing character; my favorite parts in the story are when he's together with Jo. Even though you're just reading the words- the extent of his love is very obvious, it brings out the sappy smiles. Awww...
The mystery is also a little more developed here than in Trouble with Tulip. Jo has her own household tips website and is answering questions and chronicling her days in her blog. Her agent has decided that it would be good publicity for her to try a dating service and relate her experience to her readers. Her first (and only) blind date turns into a big disaster and a possible murder. Jo, of course, becomes Nancy Drew/Martha Stewart again, using household clues to try and solve the mystery.
Overall a good read; it's hard to put down once you're at the halfway mark. You want to make sure everything works out in the case and if Jo loves Danny too. It ends on a cliffhanger, so make sure to have the final installment, Elementary, Dear Watkins ready and waiting!
I love it!.......2007-06-14
I adore this series by Mindy Starns Clark. I read this whole book in one sitting because I absolutely HAD to see how it ended! Jo and Danny are such lovable characters. Read it!!
Dead Dates Tell No Tales.......2007-04-27
After finally getting over being left at the alter Jo has decided to move on by joining a blind dating service. Her first date isn't at all what she expected him to be and then even worse: he dies during their date! Suddenly Jo finds that she's the target of kidnapping, stalking, and death threats. She has no idea why but clues seem to lead back to her deceased date. Along with best friend Danny (who is now hopelessly in love with Jo) the two set out to find out why Jo is being victimized.
Once again Mindy Starns Clark has written a winner. I absolutely adore Jo, she is one of the best recent female characters I have read. Just like in Trouble With Tulip, you can find household hints sprinkled throughout the book (now in email format!) and which also help to solve the mystery. I'm really glad that Danny was able to talk to Jo, now the ball's in her court. It'll be interesting to see how all that happens. I found the blind dating service to be very interesting since I have never used one before. I was really chilled and frightened while reading this book. Especially near the end, I couldn't put the book down because I feared so much for Jo. It was totally like watching a movie: mystery, action, romance, suspense, drama, characters you hate- such a well developed story line. Actually I really think they should make this series into a TV show, you could learn household tips and be entertained at the same time. Sort of Heloise meets Alias type of deal. This was such an excellent book, I thought it was even better than the first one in the series. And with the cliffhanger at the end of this book, I can't wait to get started on the third which is in my TBR pile. VERY highly recommended.
Cliffhangers Can Be Murder.......2006-12-15
Mindy Starns Clark's Blind Dates Can Be Murder was a fun read. Mindy has a way of putting the reader into the characters' minds--disconcerting when the character is a sociopath.
Also disconcerting is the way she ends this page-turner. Who in their right mind wants a cliff hanger ending to a suspense novel? Sure, a sequel is in the works, but do I have to wait and see where it's going? 'Tain't fair!
I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN........2006-10-15
This book was so good. I can't wait until the next one comes out. I'll have to buy the other series of Clark's. She has me hooked on her books now.

Book Description
When she hit 30, single mom and romance columnist Rachel Sarah realized that she had been in domestic overdrive too long. Years of dishing up macaroni and cheese, picking Barbie accessories up off the rug, mopping the kitchen floor, and trying to get over her ex had all but shut out the possibility of dating and hot sex again. When her daughter turned three and stopped nursing, a switch was flipped—her libido was back. And so was her need to find a man.
But motherhood had changed her. Where once she had been a free-spirited adventuress, now she was first and foremost a mom, dedicated completely to her daughter’s well-being. In this touching, sexy, and laugh-out-loud funny memoir, Sarah chronicles her ongoing search for the One as she remains a dedicated and involved mom. It’s not easy crossing over from the land of playdates, dress-up, and raising her daugher on her own to the new frontier of match.com, speed dating, singles groups, jdate, and hooking up with men she meets through friends, at the grocery store, or at the pool with her daughter. Because whenever she thinks about dating Him, she realizes it’s not just about her anymore.

Most Single Moms Can Identify with Rachel Sarah.......2007-07-24
This real-life memoir is a raw, honest portrayal of Rachel Sarah's life trying to find love as a single mom. I admire her completely for being so honest about her romantic relationships after having a baby. I think most single moms can identify with her. So many times through this book I found myself repeating "I've done that". Such a great book and a motivator for we single moms to get out and DATE!
Entertaining and heartfelt.......2007-05-23
Like another consumer reviewer, I found Rachel Sarah's book while researching titles that suited my current (and brand new) status. This is ultimately an encouraging story - full of 'laugh out loud' humor. Because Rachel has dating down to a science I picked up a number of great tips, i.e. "LISTEN TO THOSE RED FLAGS!" She's the queen of recognizing red flags, yet not always paying attention to them. We all do it when judging guys - and it's our own weird patterns and compulsions that allow us to discount issues that should scream, "Run, don't walk, away from this dude." So, even if you're not a parent, Rachel's parade of characters and subsequent saucy details, should grab you by the knickers and shake some sense into you.
Reality of being a single mom...finally presented well!!!.......2007-05-07
Thank you Rachel for writing this fabulous book...I can totally relate to your story and I loved reading it. It is bringing more courage to the single mom population which is important, there are a lot of women who feel 'guilty' about taking care of themselves...when in reality, taking care of ourselves is the most effective way to make sure our children learn that it is important to take care of themselves too, it really does keep everyone more stable and secure. FABULOUS BOOK BY A FABULOUS WOMAN!!! -Kristin
I'd recommend this book to men.......2007-02-19
I used to date a single mom. I got so exasperated that she used her toddler as an excuse for everything, I gave up. I felt too much was being demanded of me too soon in the relationship. I read Rachel Sarah's book to get a better understanding. I was entertained while I learned about how hormones affect mood, self-esteem, sexual desire, sleep etc. while the single mom is struggling with her impossible juggling act. It made me laugh. It made me want to cut my old flame some slack. I think I'll give that her a call ...
A different type of parenting memoir.......2007-01-04
Rachel Sarah's tale of balancing motherhood, work, and being single is hard to put down. Definitely different from most of the current spate of parenting tales, by the end of Single Mom Seeking, you'll feel like you know Sarah and her daughter, and you'll find yourself rooting for them.

Customer Reviews:
Good read.......2007-03-21
From reading the back of the book, you can tell what is going to happen. But the story in between is great and exciting all the way till the end. Nice summer read that you will want to share with your friends, and make you wish you were the lead character!
A fantastic love story.......2006-10-26
This book has everything I expect from a romance novel. It was great and refreshing reading about the growing attraction between Maggie and Charlie. The "couple" meets at a sporting event after trying to set up there friends Julie and Dom.
At first they seem to dislike each other more than anything else. Charlie finds Maggie way too controlling and she thinks he is the typical eternal bachelor kind of guy, definitely not dating material. Quickly after the initial introduction of the main characters, it becomes clear that they are hugely attracted to each other.
However both are fighting it. He because he got burned by being left at the altar by his fiance, she because she has a boyfriend who is out of town, and Charlie so does not fit her ideal mate description.
It is great to read about them eventually getting closer and closer, I just ordered the sequel "Bride Needs Groom" and can't wait to read it.
Good Book.......2006-08-07
I enjoyed reading this book, but like another reviewer said, it's not really a sequel. I was looking forward to reading more about Nina and Joey from the fist book. It took me a little while to get to this book because I was disappointed. It really was a good story, though. I liked Charlie, but he seemed to get mean at the end for a while. Overall, it was funny and romantic story.
Charlie and Maggie Story.......2006-05-30
'Once upon a blind date' by Wendy Markham (aka Wendy Corsi Staub) is the second novel of the Chickalini family (The Nine Month Plan). Maggie is Dominic Chickalini's best friend and she decided he needs a wife. Charlie writer of the 'bachelor at large' column is Julie's bestfriend and decided she needs a husband. Of course, Dominic and Julie seem at odds but Maggie and Charlie have amazing sparks. If you enjoy this genre, I would also suggest `Body Check' by Deirdre Martin , `Drive me Crazy' by Kate Angell and Almost Perfect by Julie Ortolon.
Once Upon A Blind Date.......2006-02-26
New Yorker Maggie O'Mulligan is organized, in control, and busy. She doesn't have time to help her best friend, Dominic Chickalini, with his many domestic needs such as picking up his dry cleaning. In her typical style, Maggie can solve the problem, and she decides that she must find a wife for her buddy. If she will get his clothes one last time, Dominic will agree to Maggie's crazy wife search. Not that he really wants a wife, but he is desperate for his clothes! Meanwhile in another part of town, writer Charlie Kennely is concerned about his lonely friend and neighbor Julie Purello. Long hours as a pastry chef have kept her off the dating circuit. Charlie believes that he can find the perfect man for Julie. After all, he is the "Bachelor at Large," penning relationship advice for a major women's magazine. How hard could it be?
Maggie and Charlie independently use a local internet dating service. After creating profiles and searching through potential matches, they find their friends' ideal mates. To ensure Julie's safety, Charlie suggests going with her on the first date. Of course, Dominic is free to bring someone, too. Charlie then arranges a date sure to score points with Dominic. What could be better than a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden? Julie knows nothing about basketball, but that shouldn't be a problem, right? When Julie sends over the Knicks tickets, Maggie is confused. A basketball game date doesn't mesh with Julie's profile. Not to worry, Maggie goes along with Dominic to insure that all goes well.
The four meet at the game, and BAM! It's love at first sight. There's just one problem, it's not Julie and Dominic who are connecting. Nothing happens between them, not even the tiniest spark. Maggie and Charlie, however, light things up with both their instant attraction and their intense dislike. Charlie wants no part of the anal and controlling Maggie, while the laid-back Charlie gets on Maggie's last nerve. Certainly, neither will remember the earth shattering kiss they shared. Instead, they again and again focus on getting Dominic and Julie together. If Charlie and Maggie's interfering simply gives them a valid reason to see each other, they would never admit it. Who knows what would happen if they did!
I am torn. On one hand, Once Upon a Blind Date is a humorous, ironic matchmaking tale where opposites attract and clash. I love the premise. Julie and Dominic's doomed dates are hilarious, especially the he-said, she-said accounts. Throughout most of the book, however, I disliked Maggie. She is too uptight and too controlling. I know that she means well, but she is not pleasant. I wanted to smack her often! What kind of friend keeps pushing her best friend into dates from hell?
Also, why does Dominic need a wife? Wouldn't a personal assistant be more appropriate? While not always perfect, Charlie is appealing and has potential. I did enjoy Maggie and Charlie's battles, but perhaps there was one too many. Over the course of the story, Maggie and Charlie do make realistic changes. I looked forward to their ultimate resolution and was rooting for a happy ending.
This is my first Wendy Markham novel, but I would love to read more. I enjoyed the story's overall style and flow. Maybe with different characters, I would be happier. Once Upon a Blind Date has several shining moments, but also a few rough spots. It just doesn't quite hit the mark.

Customer Reviews:
An Excellent and Fun Series!.......2007-08-07
Brandy Alexander has moved back to her hometown of Philly and is now living in the house she grew up in. Recently transplanted from LA she is still in search of a job. As the perfect investigative reporter job continues to elude her, Brandy takes up waiting tables for her brother Paul.
In the midst of plumbing issues, job searches and screwing up service at her brother's restaurant, she acquires a roommate. Toodie has a troubled history but Brandy sees him as a helpless stray. When he doesn't come home one night, Brandy is not that concerned, in fact she doesn't get worried until she lifts the top of Toodie's freezer for a steak and makes a gruesome discovery. All signs point to his guilt, but Brandy doesn't buy it and sets out to clear his name. Unfortunately it is bringing her up close and personal with some very dangerous characters; enter the second Brandy Alexander Mystery.
While the reader follows Brandy as she simultaneously is running from and chasing after bad guys, we get a closer glimpse into Brandy's personal life and we even go on a couple horrible blind dates. Blind dates are always funny when you aren't the one on them.
Bobby is back as the cop in charge of her case and his wife is making it hard for Brandy and him to work together, let alone be friends. Bobby wants to keep Brandy safe by keeping her out of the investigation, period. Nick realizes Brandy is headstrong and won't quit, so he tries to help her while keeping her safe. Brandy grows more and more dependant on Nick; he seems to understand her needs and wants more than she does. We observe her feelings change and grow with both Nick and Bobby.
In the follow up to No Such Thing As A Secret, this book packs in the scary, the dangerous, the hilarious, the sexy and the tender. Brandy continues to be a sharp and witty heroine, with a slightly clumsy streak. Once again I was laughing out loud and eagerly turning the pages. Ms. Fredman writes a story about people you easily become invested in and mystery that keeps you guessing. I am loving this series and I am most anxiously and impatiently awaiting the third book.
No blind dates for me...............2007-07-06
I've just fnished reading an awesomely great mystery by Shelly Fredman called "No Such Thing As A Good Blind Date; A Brandy Alexander Mystery". OMG the book was great. It was a very entertaining, funny mystery about Brandy Alexander, her blind dates and all they drama they seem to cause. Who would have thought so much could happen to one person in just over a weeks time span. The story was told very well. I was able to sit back and picture Brandy telling about her adventures since she moved back home. If you haven't already be sure to check it out!!!!!!
Thanks Shelly!!!
Brandy is rich and intoxicating - just like her namesake.......2007-05-05
After turning her back on a career as a California-based television reporter who seemed to cover stories on nothing but boring, uninteresting fluff, just five weeks ago, twenty-eight-year-old Brandy Alexander made the very important decision to say goodbye to la-la land, and make her way back to the place where she grew-up: South Philadelphia. Not only did she follow her roots to her childhood stomping ground, she actually purchased the ancestral home she grew up in. Sure, re-routing to Philly has brought back memories of her relationship gone awry with hottie police officer, Bobby DiCarlo, but it got her out of wearing a hideous bridesmaid's dress to her best friend, Franny DiAngelo's wedding, and gave her the opportunity to, once more, stuff her face with the amazing sandwiches from PrimoHoagies, which she grew up on, and re-connect with her old best friends. Everything is going great. That is, until plumbing problems begin wracking up bills that could leave Brandy in the poorhouse. Luckily, Toodie Ventura, a friend from childhood, who happens to double as a recent parolee, offers Brandy something she can't refuse: he'll donate his plumbing services to her, in exchange for a spare room in her new place. Brandy can't help but think it's a great idea. But when she stumbles upon a dismembered body in the freezer, she can't help but suspect Toodie. The fact that he has suddenly disappeared doesn't help his case much, either. While Brandy finds herself listing Toodie as her number one suspect in the case, she finds herself unconvinced that her childhood friend could have become such a heartless, cold-blooded killer over the years, and resolves to find the true culprit and clear Toodie's name. Unfortunately, to do that, she'll have to hook-up with Bobby to help her out on the case. While the mere mention of Bobby's name sends Brandy into a tizzy, she finds herself quite calm in the situation, considering there's a new love interest on the scene in the form of the mysterious Nicholas Santiago - an individual who wants to help Brandy with her investigation. Aside from the dead body in the freezer, and Toodie's disappearance, Brandy finds herself feeling like things are looking up. After all, she's hooked a new hottie, and is working full-force to make Bobby jealous, but then things turn deadly. Suddenly, Brandy finds herself getting up close and personal with crazy killers out for revenge, and a slew of stalkers determined to make Brandy's life miserable. As if all that weren't enough for a girl to contend with, she's fighting off a menagerie of bad blind dates that could make a girl swear-off men for life; while at the same time, trying to keep her head - literally.
Stephanie Plum was one of the first female detectives, or, rather, bountyhunters, who made it fashionable to pack heat, juggle a slightly deranged, off-beat family, and work as hard as possible at spiting her exes by rubbing new love interests and relationships in their faces. Shelly Fredman has combined some of those traits, along with a handful of those found in Gemma Halliday's HIGH HEELS mysteries, to craft the unstoppable, fun-loving Brandy Alexander. Brandy's dysfunctional personality, and attempt to comfort herself by relocating to her "safe haven" of Philadelphia make her a relatable character, whose insecurities and flaws only work to make the reader sympathize with her character. However, it is her ability to make the best out of anything life throws at her, and talk her way out of just about any situation that leaves you laughing out loud. From page one, Brandy is an indomitable voice that booms above the din of those surrounding her. Her penchant for cherry Italian ice, hoagies, and bad relationships - or lack thereof - only work to increase her appeal. Between Brandy, along with her interactions with various characters, from her old childhood friends, to her ex-boyfriend, and even reaching the new hunk in her life, are absolutely hilarious. The various quirks and personalities of these secondary characters only work to add another dimension to NO SUCH THING AS A GOOD BLIND DATE, and work to make them memorable. Shelly Fredman's latest novel pokes fun at blind dates, and serves the purpose of illustrating the ups and downs of a new homeowner; while, at the same time, works to show the compassionate, caring side of Brandy as she does everything in her power to clear Toodie's name. Brandy is rich and intoxicating - just like her namesake.

No such thing as a bad Brandy Alexander!.......2007-04-01
I had grown tired of Stephanie Plum (Evanovich) and Kinsey Milhone (Grafton) and thought maybe I'd seen all the good female detective fiction there was to see. Along came Shelly Fredman's heroine and my hopes are renewed. Brandy is fun yet adventuresome. She's more grown up and talented than Stephanie and more social and well-adjusted than Kinsey. I look forward to watching her grow and develop. Thanks, Shelly Fredman for "birthing" this new gal detective.
A WINNING NEW SERIES...............................2007-03-27
If you're looking for a winning new series, look no further. Clearly not one to disappoint, Ms. Fredman has once again outdone herself.
Our girl Brandy is back...she's returned to her hometown of Philadelphia, and has purchased the family home from her parents, who have relocated permanently to Florida. Currently unemployed, Brandy takes in childhood friend Toodie, whose plumbing skills more than make up for his checkered past..and present. When her roommate suddenly disappears and body parts turn up in a fridge in Brandy's basement, all facts points to Toodie's involvement in a murder. But Brandy refuses to believe that the bumbling Toodie is as evil as everyone is so quick to believe...and soon sets out to prove his innocence. With an entourage of scary folks following her (ex-cons and ex-boyfriend's wives), Brandy enlists the help of the one person that she considers even scarier..the delectable Nicholas Santiago. Can Brandy manage to stay alive to find the real killer? Or will the real killer find Brandy first? Or worse yet....will ex-boyfriend Bobby's wife be the one to throttle Brandy?
Laughs abound in this fabulous sequel....readers will be thrilled to find that the author has lost none of her steam.

Book Description
Blind Date is a spectacular and erotically charged psychological novel that shows Jerzy Kosinski, author of Being There and The Painted Bird, at the height of his power. George Levanter is an idea man, a small investor, an international playboy, and a ruthless deal-maker whose life is delivered in a series of scorching encounters, each more incredible than the last. From Moscow to Paris, from a Manhattan skyscraper to a California mass murder, Blind Date is a dizzying vision of life among the beautiful people and the thrill-seekers.

Dangerous beautiful, descraceful and Darling........2003-06-28
Read Blind Date by Jerzy N. Kosinski
The only the real life of Kosinski is as strange as his fiction.
And his fiction is strange yet utterly plausible in the mind of the reader.
I liked it, the main character is capable of quite morally good things as well as dark dangerous things. Some is very true the two most unlikely stories in the book actually. Kosinski writes about his main character missing the plane to LA and all his friends were killed in a mass murder, Kosinski was supposed to go to Roman Polanski's house but lost his luggage and was delayed a day just causing him to miss arriving the night of the Charles Mansion Helter Skelter murders. The second story is about his main character marring a rich heiress for love only to see her die. This actual happened to the Kosinski. His mixture of pure fiction with the Autobiographical is mesmerizing. Leventur his main character is a Russian émigré who has many international adventures. He is a womanizer, a killer, a hero victim, avernger and villian. The plot bounces around the world from the opressed world of the Soviet Union to the extra
grandure and freedom of america. I also loved Being There.
Kosinski attacks America...again........2000-12-17
"Blind Date," by Jerzy Kosinski, is coca-cola for the mind. You sip a little at a time and ponder the after-taste. All in all, the book serves its purpose, which is to involve the reader with quick flashes of whit and brutal irony. But my personal opinion is that the chapters repeat themselves in their psydo-philosophical/psychological "victim"/"avenger" theme. Thus, "Blind Date" quickly grows predictable, even a litte lame, and fails as a collective-whole. This is a book that is quickly read and quickly forgotten, but it's fun, if you don't take it too seriously, which you shouldn't.
Beautiful-Ugly.......2000-05-19
Sex, terrorism, incest, mass murder, betrayal, rape, prostitution. Somehow, Kosinski is able to show us the worst aspects of humanity and get us to completely accept them, even embrace them. The story is episodic. Through those episodes, Kosinski shows us something very like real life. It's more exciting than many people's lives, but there's no grand plan, no overreaching narrative arc. To paraphrase the Simpsons, it's just a bunch of stuff that happened, but it certainly was a very interesting read.
Kosinski reveals Blind Dates with our destiny.......2000-04-07
Depicted in non-linear time frames, Kosinski dramatically succeeds in presenting the tumultuous life of one man, George Leventer. Associating with the powerful, beautiful, and lonely people around the world, Kosinski's character captures that elusive state of accepting the paradox of being powerful but lonely, requiring love but displaying violence, and growing old but questioning fate. His narrative is sharp and cinematic in structure and tone. Erotica is insightfully tamed and given in precise portions. I became entralled in dissecting the characters intentions as much as their decisions and actions. A superb study in pychological drama and state of consciousness. Please read it and THINK about what it has to say.
"Blind Date" J. Kosinski.......2000-04-06
I have just started to read this book, but it looks very interesting and spicy. I really enjoy it and I would recommended to everyone who likes Kosinski's books.

Product Description
Steve Fellner's debut book of poems, Blind Date with Cavafy, was the winner of the 2006 Marsh Hawk Poetry Prize. It was selected by Denise Duhamel. In selecting this book for the prize, Duhamel wrote, Blind Date with Cavafy serves up hilarious pathos and devastating humor. Bleak, deadpan, enthusiastic, earnest: Steve Fellner's book is all of these things, something all of things in one poem, sometimes all of these things in one line.
Customer Reviews:
20/20.......2007-04-02
"We become our own gods without even knowing it." Fellner writes in his poem The Concept of an External Soul and whether those gods are the gods of his God in the Box poem or locked in a safe with Knowledge: a blue-eyed dwarf, the mind of these poems is ingenious and unpredictable enough to seduce a reader into following. A mother and a son get drunk on imaginary wine "never wanting to forget the taste of nothing," we condescend to science fiction writers allowing them to believe that we too, believe that earth and the planets "and all the other galaxies in the Universe are a popcorn trail, leading us to the heart of God." These poems reach into history, out to gods, up to God, down to earth, through time and space to date Cavafy, to chastise Catallus, to "Consider the Fates" plus Eve, Miss Lala, Joice Heth and their speaker, in the brilliant, strange and wholly unforgettable Self-Portrait. But they never seem to be reaching beyond their grasp. For the authentic, direct voice, agility, and the circus of the best kind of strangeness, you should go out with these poems. This is one blind date you'll thank your friends for.
Keenly observed, beautifully drawn.......2007-04-01
Steve Fellner's debut collection eschews self-regarding eloquence in favor of direct, funny, and cunningly crafted verse. His eye takes in everything from 19th-century acrobats and the legendary Tomb of Eve to modern call centers and the adopted child's uneasy search for Mother. Blind Date with Cavafy makes you pay closer attention to those half-overheard conversations in midnight diners. It shows you the commonplace in the exotic, the fantastic in the mundane.

Samantha's Review.......2005-02-11
This is a story about a guy named Kerry who couldn't remember what happen to his brother Donald. His friends and family knew what happen to him but also knew not to tell Kerry, he is suppose to find out himself. His father was a cop. Kerry was a football player and he was ranked numer two. He accidentally fell on the number one player's leg and broke his leg. It really was an accident but no one belives him. He gets a phone call that night. He has a blind date!!! He talks to her for a while. He is going to take her on a date. When he gets done talkeng to her he gets another phone call. It sounds like some girl pinching her nose and saying " The toe bones connected to the foot bone... the foot bones connected to the leg bone... I'm going to break every bone in your body." At first he thought it was Sal's girlfriend, Sharon. Sal is the one who broke his leg. One night, Kerry and Mandy, his bline date, went to the dance, when they came back out the car was vandlized. The windows were smashed in with a mallet and the tires were slashed with a hunting knife. He got a ride home and when he got home the phone was ringing. He didn't want to answer it but he did. It was Donald at a pay phone. He said, Becareful, I'm coming...," Kerry hung up before Donald could say anything else. Mandy came and wanted to go to a safer place because she thought that Donald was following her. She was scaired and wanted to bring Kerry with her. They went to an old cabin that her parents had owned. then they had hot chocolate. She had slipped some white into his and he feel asleep. When he woke up he was tied to a chair and couldn't move. He found out it was Mandy who was making those scary phone calls. She claimed to be Amanda's sister and then swung the mallet and his foot. She went to the wall and pulled a big moose head off the wall and jamed it on Kerry's head. She was going to smash the other foot but...
R. L. Stine Knows how to weave a story!.......2004-12-10
When I got this book, it was passed on to me from a friend. I wasn't going to read it before many of the other books I had, but then I met someone else who loves R.L. Stine. I decided to pass it on to him when I found out this is the first book he ever wrote for teens. I thought that by itself was very cool.
The story is pretty good actually. The plot and theme sound a little familiar, but once you start reading it, you realize that Stine made an original story out of it. Character development, suspense, and details made this a remarkable story.
Stine is notorious for his use of details to pull the reader into the story. One of the most adored characteristics of the Goosebumps series is his use of gory, creepy, or mysterious details that make the reader really think. Because stine does this well, I can really picture the events and the characters as if I was there. I like authors that can do that.
Stine also builds suspense throughout the story. Even though the plot is an obvious one, the complications Kerry faces are still unexpected. I certainly didn't know what was really going on until he revealed it all in the end. He kept me guessing throughout the story.
My favorite part of this story was character development though. Kerry is a typical boy. I didn't really like his personality much, but he is familiar to me and a lot of kids my age. I know Kerry is representative of teenagers and because of that, readers will be able to associate. The best character however was Mandy.
The story is told from a third person point of view looking over Kerry's shoulder. If it had been told from Mandy's point of view it might have been less suspenseful, but Mandy is awesome. Her personality sticks to the reader like glue. She even captured my affection early in the story. By the end of the book, even though she scared me, I still wanted to know her.
Stine wrote a really good story here. I know all of his current readers will like it. Since its his first, all his fans should read it.
Blind Date- A Page Turner For All Ages........2003-08-15
It all starts out with a boy named Kerry ended up breaking the best football player on the team on accident, but everyone thinks else. Then things start to look better when he meets his blind date. When it's time to finally meet Mandy, a piece of the memory he had forgotten for almost a year ago comes back to him.
It is a mystery for him and the reader to find out what happened in his past as well as the mysterious Mandy. It's a spine-tingler and a good book for any thrill seeker.
Stine's First.......2003-06-19
R.L. Stine's first horror book is no doubt one of his best. You can actually tell he put effort in it, unlike most of his goosebump books which seem to display that he is merely pumping out books just to meat the demand. Although this book isn't a nightmare-causer (non of his books are) it is frightfully realistic (most of his books aren't) and thus creates a kind of unexplainable-horror that is what makes books so fantastic, great job R. L. Stine. . . its a shame all of your books aren't this good.
Troubles of the Real World Crossed with the Imagination of R.......2003-05-29
Blind Date is a roller coaster ride for the reader. This book is packed with the ups and downs of adventure and teen life. The story starts when Kerry, a boy in high school, just tackled the star-quarterback, Jess and broke his back and went into a coma. Jess's cheerleader girlfriend, Sherri swears she will get vengeance on Kerry. At the hours of darkness, he gets a phone call, and a sexy, kitten like voice purrs, "Hi, I'm your blind date." But what you don't know is that Kerry's bigger brother Donald is in a mental hospital the year before and that plays a major part in the story.
I was dreadfully interested in the events that happened, for instance Kerry's tires get slashed after the school dance. This is one of the only R.L. Stine books that captured my curiosity. The characters were exceptionally believable because Kerry was a shadow in his older brother Donald's footsteps. Kerry also was believable because he didn't get many dates and I know some guys; they don't get loads of dates.
I liked this book because it had a lot of twists and turns. At the conclusion of each chapter, a new surprise would arise and would make you what to read more. I recommend it to anyone and everyone because it will keep you guessing until the end.
