This is the best wound care resource I have. From basic care to physiology of wounds, this book covers everything in an easy to understand but comprehensive manner. I especially like the chapter on the interdisciplinary process.

As a layperson to the medical field, the most fascinating thing about this book was the extensive collection of colour plates. Showing textbook cases of exposed wounds. Sometimes with plenty of decaying skin and exposed muscle. The resemblences of some pictures to raw meat at the butcher's is stark.

One might wonder how patients let their conditions deteriorate to the depths shown here. How could you walk around, or not, with some of those wounds, and not have it treated before they got so bad?

Excellent wound care primer.......2000-04-28

I have read this book and used it as a resource in preparing for wound care certification. I found it invaluable for it's detailed sections on anatomy and especially physiology. It was extremely helpful in gaining an understanding of what happens in a wound and how it heals. There are equally helpful chapters on disease processes and their impact on wound healing, and on choosing dressings and techniques for proper wound care.

I cannot believe I lost this on the BART train on my way to visit a makeup artist!
This booklet helped me achieve exactly the type of look with authenticity of makeup color for the time, etc. that I was looking for. For every period, there were several looks, from innocent to siren, that gave you a wide range of authentic period styles to copy for.
I am not willing to pay $250 to replace my copy at this time, but I REALLY feel a tremendous loss to not have this as a resource.
Now I know how different the youthful Audrey Hepburn's eyebrows were, say from those of Elizabeth Taylor. And when I want Audrey's eyebrows, I want hers--not Liz's. They really were quite different and GORGEOUS!

Turudich is a rip-off artist!.......2006-06-08

Not exactly. The people who sell her book for loads of money are. Her books are just great to flip through. If you are looking for thorough details, this is not for you. I have this book and I like it as a collector's item (not to mention cherish it for it's value. I can't believe I paid over $140 on this book!! I'm ridiculous!). If you want to copy actual make-up from the early and mid-20th century, you should buy books that are from actual make-up artists. In my opinion, She copied a lot of her stuff from Kevyn Aucoin's "Making Faces." He's a real make-up artist who covers the flapper, vamp, bombshell, etc... looks in his books (you should also check out "Face Forward" also by Kevyn Aucoin). In "Vintage Face" Turudich covers those and a few others but she basically says the same thing over and over. She just changes up the colors to use for each look. Some websites are even more helpful than this book. Another extra info, her "1940s Hairstyles" isn't even that great either. She completely copied a book that was published back in the 40s, leaving out some detailed instructions. There is nothing in her book giving credit to it. I guess what I'm trying to say is: If you want to copy the looks, this isn't the book for you. If you want to collect Turudich's books (like me) than go ahead and spend a bill or two...haha. Also, just wanted to point out: you should really be careful buying expensive books. I bought this book from a seller here and some pages are missing (the last few about where you could find vintage colors on the market)!

Yes, this book is not a comprehensive guide to vintage looks and cosmetics.

Yes, the photos are sadly only in black and white.

However, the classic film star photos to accompany each look are wonderful. Case in point, the evolution of Gene Tierney from the 1930s with slightly pudfy cheeks to 1940s glamour girl.

Defintely snap this one up if you can find a good quality used copy. A discounted price will help soften the blow of the covers being too close together.

An expanded, revised edition would be a most welcome addition to my personal library

This book has no pictures to further illustrate the points that it makes. It is all in black and white. It is basically information that you would know anyway from general makeup application. It goes through the different eras but doesn't cover in very much detail. At the back there is a recipe section for making your own makeup but it is unlikely that these would be made as some use dangerous products!!Very diasppointed with the book-lucky I bought it second hand.

What a complete waste of money. This book was much anticipated until I got it in the mail. Not only was it small, but it lacked so much detail!! The stupid thing isn't even in color! Yea, they give you a color chart, but don't show how to apply it when using make up.

Not good for snorkeling sites.......2007-01-21

I bought this book with the hopes of learning about good snorkeling sites at Grand Cayman. I wanted information so that I could decide what places would be worth our time and would be okay to take our 9 year to (as well as a map of the location). I was quite disappointed. It describes numererous dive sites and gives a "star rating" for snorkeling of these sites. However, it does not really address snorkeling individually. There are several well known snorkel sites that are not even mentioned in this book. Thankfully, I learned about these sites over the internet so that we can enjoy them during our stay. This book did not help me prepare at all. I imagine it is good for those who dive though.

This is a book that I request many of my new psychotherapy clients to read, as it has proved powerful enough to transform many of my clients' lives.

So many people long for help to outgrow unhealthy family relationships, yet they don't know how. Ordinarily, for most people, such relationships repeat throughout their life-cycle and this can be seen in painful interactions they have may have with critical or controlling bosses, envious or competitive co-workers, unfaithful or hurtful partners.

Employing both evocative analogies and practical real-life examples, Dr. Burgess sheds light on what comprises healthy relationships by characterizing individuals as "yes", "no" or "maybe' categories of people. It is through the use of this unique paradigm that she helps readers to begin to identify and avoid hurtful others (or alternatively to protect themselves in interactions with such people when they cannot be avoided). She also encourages readers to reconsider before appealing to others who are consistently withholding or disrespectful, those whom she refers to as "dry wells."

So good I cant put it down. One morning I read one chapter that explained so much to me, I felt so product I went back to bed for a few hours. Many of my friends claim to have answers for some of the gliches in my personality; and they are actually therapists- they are each getting a copy of this book because it had more anwers for me than them combined :-) Enjoy!

LIFE CHANGING!!!!.......2006-08-05

This books is truly amazing and lifechanging because it helps one to see the clearer picture. Someone once said insanity is "doing something over and over again expecting to get different results." A majority of my life I was a people pleaser, especially trying to please no-category people (read the book for the definition of yes-no-maybe category people). This book has been very validating for me because I was able to change my perspective. No longer do I have to go around quenching my anger. I can express my feelings in a helpful manner and stay neutral - that's where the power is - in neutrality. I've been empowered to live a richer life by using some of the techniques in the book. And looking at my life now, I'm surrounded by higher vibrating people. No longer am I a mad woman, expecting to get different results by doing the same thing. I've tried a different approach (thanks to the author) and my life is a wonderful reflection of my new mindset. Woohoo:-)

A Comforting Way of Handling Interpersonal Relationships.......2006-07-18

This is a book I have close at hand. When I am upset about personal relationships, I reread sections. Dr. Burgess explains how depression and poor coping skills originate and gives exercises for initiating the healing process within ourselves. Dr. Burgess teaches forgiveness of ourselves and others. That is always comforting to me -- that I can heal myself without condemning another person.

good source for hurting hearts.......2005-10-13

This book gave me good tactics to counteract negative people in my life and helped me get through some rough patches with some individuals. I realized it's okay to have a sensitive heart but also how to protect it from negative individuals that are likely to invalidate/hurt me.
